223. Simulation and Experiment of Soft-Decision Decoding for Short-Frame Fountain Code Over Plasma Sheath Channel

Abstract

A hypersonic vehicle is covered by a plasma sheath during flight, which seriously attenuates the power of electromagnetic (EM) waves and generates the so-called “radio blackout” phenomenon when the equivalent frequency of plasma is greater than the carrier frequency. However, the parameters of plasma sheath vary randomly with time. The variation produces some random time slots where the equivalent frequency of plasma is lower than the carrier frequency, so the EM waves can penetrate the plasma sheath. Random time slots cause the receiver unable to receive information in the form of a complete frame, resulting in the traditional communication methods being no longer applicable. In order to receive the complete frame in random time slots and maximize the use of temporal resources of the plasma sheath channel, this article constructs a temporal-varying plasma sheath channel, proposes a soft-decision decoding algorithm for short-frame fountain codes (SFFCs), studies the relationship between the encode parameters and the characteristics of the channel, and designs communication experiments based on inductively coupling plasma (ICP). The short-frame fountain code (SFFC) has the characteristics of no-rate and short-frame, which can adapt to the short-time and random of the plasma sheath. In addition, soft-decision decoding algorithm can effectively reduce misjudgment of the receiver, reduce packet error rate, and improve the utilization of limited temporal resources of the plasma sheath channel. Simulation and experiments show that the proposed method achieves higher utilization of temporal resources of plasma sheath channel, and improves the reliability of communication. Even if the plasma equivalent frequency is higher than the carrier frequency, the uninterrupted and correct transmission of information can be realized.

Abstract

Controlling the crystallization of Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) at the nanoscale is currently challenging, and this hinders their utilization for multiple applications including photo(electro)chemistry and sensors. In this work, we show a synthetic protocol that enables the preparation of highly homogeneous Cu2O@MOF nanowires standing on a conductive support with extensive control over the crystallization of the MOF nanoparticles at the surface of the Cu2O nanowires. Cu2O nanowires were first prepared via templated electrodeposition, and then partially converted into the well-known Cu-MOF HKUST-1 by pulsed electrochemical oxidation. We show that the use of PVP as a capping agent during the electrochemical oxidation of Cu2O into HKUST-1 provides control over the growth of the MOF nanocrystals on the surface of the Cu2O nanowires, and that the size of the MOF crystals obtained can be tuned by changing the concentration of PVP dissolved in the electrolyte. In addition, we propose the use of benzoic acid as an alternative to achieve control over the size of the obtained MOF nanocrystals when the use of a capping agent should be avoided. Abstract

The two-dimensional (2D) materials provide an excellent platform for the study of the dimensional effect. The richer the types of 2D materials, the broader the unknown field we can explore. However, among the large number of 2D materials manufactured by humans, true single-crystalline (SC) atomically thin 2D metals are rare. The instability of SC 2D metal materials puts high demands on its fabrication process. By implementing molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we proved that the SC biatomic-layer (BL) gallium film can be formed at the interface between two graphene layers. The Ga atoms deposited on the surface of the graphene on the copper substrate will spontaneously evolve into independent liquid nano-islands, and then cover the nano-island with a monolayer graphene. When the Ga nano-islands confined under the graphene layer are heated to 500 ° C, they will expand into a BL Ga film, and finally, the entire system is cooled to room temperature to obtain the SCBL Ga film. It is found that these nano-islands are in the liquid state at ∼ 400 ° C, but they undergo a phase transition and evolve into the solid state at ∼ 500 ° C. At the same time, the nano-islands also drop from 3D to 2D. In addition, the vertical heterostructure with moiré superstructure is formed between the SCBL Ga and the top layer graphene. The calculations of the electronic properties show that the Dirac conical point of the graphene in the heterostructure is shifted below the Fermi level, which proves that SCBL Ga is able to induce semimetallic to metallic conversion in graphene, indicating SCBL Ga can be used for metal contacts in 2D devices.
