The crystal structure of the new iron(III) arsenate, viz. tricaesium diiron(III) tris(arsenate), Cs3Fe2(AsO4)3, is built up from corner-sharing AsO4 tetrahedra and FeO5 trigonal bipyramids forming a three-dimensional open framework, which contains two channels running along the c axis where the Cs+ cations are located. Tripotassium triiron(III) tetraarsenate, K3Fe3(AsO4)4, has been synthesized at high temperature by solid-state reaction. The structure is built up from corner- and edge-sharing between FeO6 octahedra and AsO4 tetrahedra. The structure can be described as infinite anionic layers parallel to the (010) plane. Alkali metal cations are located in the interlayer space. The relationship between the title compound and K3Fe3(PO4)4·H2O structures is discussed. The structure of sodium calcium magnesium iron phosphate, (Na0,38,Ca0,31)MgFe2P3O12, consists of an [MgFe2(PO4)3]− framework, built up by chains of edge-sharing (FeO6–FeO6–MgO6) octahedra running along the [ 01] direction. The chains are linked together via the common corners of phosphate tetrahedra to form sheets parallel to the ab plane. Adjacent sheets are also connected through PO4 tetrahedra, thus giving rise to an open framework with two different kinds of channels where the Na+ and Ca2+ cations are located. In the title compound, disodium cobalt tetrakis­(dihydrogen­phosphate) tetrahydrate, the CoII ion lies on an inversion centre and is octahedrally surrounded by two water molecules and four H2PO4 groups to give a cobalt complex anion of the form [Co(H2PO4)4(OH2)]2−. Single crystals of bis(3-aminopyridinium)tetrachlorocobaltate(II) were successfully synthesized and structurally characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction. This study shows that the structure is built on inorganic anionic and organic cationic subnetworks stabilized by Cl...Cl and antiparallel offset face to face π-π stacking interactions, respectively. The cohesion of the overall packing is ensured by N–H...Cl hydrogen bonds leading to a three dimensional network. Structural geometry optimization and gap energy determination were performed thanks to DFT calculation. Thermal decomposition of the title compound powder, at 450 °C in air atmosphere, leads to nanostructured Co3O4 as confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction. The obtained cobalt oxide was used as adsorbent for the removal of hexavalent chromium ions from aqueous solution. The effect of contact time was investigated and showed an unusual behavior consisting of the existence of two equilibrium plateaus at 11 mg.g−1 and 15 mg.g−1 which were attributed to surface heterogeneity, as elucidated by scanning electron microscopy analysis. As a consequence, the kinetic data were analyzed in steps and fitted using non linear pseudo-first order and non linear pseudo-second order models. A comparative study with other adsorbents demonstrated the potential of the synthesized Co3O4 via thermal decomposition of the title compound for hexavalent chromium ions removal. The title compound, sodium chromium/aluminium molybdenum/aluminium dodecaoxide, Na0.72Cr0.48Al1.74Mo2.77O12, was prepared by solid-state reaction. Its crystal structure is related to NaSICON-type compounds. The framework is built up from M1O6 (M1 = Cr/Al) octahedra and M2O4 (M2 = Mo/Al) tetrahedra interconnected by corners. The three-dimensional framework contains cavities in which sodium cations are located. Two validation models (BVS and CHARDI) were used to confirm the proposed structural model.
