Effective treatment options for patients with life-threatening neurological disorders are limited. To address this unmet need, high-impact translational research is essential for the advancement and development of novel therapeutic approaches in neurocritical care. "The Neurotherapeutics Symposium 2019—Neurological Emergencies" conference, held in Rochester, New York, in June 2019, was designed to accelerate translation of neurocritical care research via transdisciplinary team science and diversity enhancement. Diversity excellence in the neuroscience workforce brings innovative and creative perspectives, and team science broadens the scientific approach by incorporating views from multiple stakeholders. Both are essential components needed to address complex scientific questions. Under represented minorities and women were involved in the organization of the conference and accounted for 30–40% of speakers, moderators, and attendees. Participants represented a diverse group of stakeholders committed to translational research. Topics discussed at the conference included acute ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, neurogenic respiratory dysregulation, seizures and status epilepticus, brain telemetry, neuroprognostication, disorders of consciousness, and multimodal monitoring. In these proceedings, we summarize the topics covered at the conference and suggest the groundwork for future high-yield research in neurologic emergencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The effect of Ajwain, Fenugreek and black Cumin (AFC) in different concentrations on the performance, ileal digestibility, blood metabolites and bone strength of broiler was studied. A total of 360 birds were divided randomly into control (Group A), basal diet+ 1.5 g/kg AFC (Group B), basal diet+ 3.0 g/kg AFC (Group C), basal diet+ 4.5 g/kg AFC (Group D). Feed intake was significantly lower (P <0.05) in birds fed with AFC at the rate of 4.5 g/kg at starter and finisher phases, however, body weight and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were significantly (P <0.05) improved in birds fed with AFC at the rate of 3.0 g/kg. Crude protein, crude fat and nitrogen-free extract were significantly (P <0.05) higher in group fed with 3.0 g/kg AFC. Total cholesterol, triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were significantly (P <0.05) lower in birds fed with 3.0 g/kg AFC while high-density lipoprotein (HDL) was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in the same group. No significant changes were found in the bone quality parameters between the control and treatment groups. From the results of the present study, we suggested that an herbal mixture of AFC at the rate of 3.0 g/kg improved the body weight, FCR, digestibility and blood profile of broiler. Effects of nickel substitution on the physical properties of perovskite SrFe1−xNixO3 (x = 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1) are investigated by density functional theory (DFT) using local density approximation (LDA), generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and GGA supplemented with a localization correction (GGA + U). It is found that the GGA + U results are the much consistent with experiments. The lattice constants decreases with the increase of Ni substitution and are found to be stable for all concentrations. The electron charge densities reveal that the bond between Sr-O is ionic; the Fe/Ni-O bond is covalent and the Ni-Fe bond is metallic. Electronic band structure comparisons and electrical properties reveal the metallic nature of samples. DFT as well as post-DFT calculations confirm that the magnetic interactions are anti-ferromagnetic for SrFeO3, while they are ferromagnetic for all Ni concentrations. The mechanism is elucidated by exchange interactions with magnetic transitions above room temperature. Due to the metallic nature and good electrical conductivity of these materials, it is expected that they could be used as electrode materials in fuel cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two-hundred-eighty-day-old broiler chicks were divided into seven groups. The groups were designated as T1, thermoneutral zone; T2, heat stressed (HS); T3, HS + zinc (Zn) supplementation (30 mg/kg); T4, HS + Zn (60 mg/kg); T5, HS + probiotic (0.1 g/kg); T6, HS + probiotic (0.1 g/kg) + Zn (30 mg/kg); and T7, HS + Zn (60 mg/kg) + probiotic (0.1 g/kg). Significant decrease (p < 0.05) was observed in villus height (VH), VH to crypt depth ratio, and villus surface area of all intestinal segments in the T2 group when compared with the T1 group. The same parameters had significantly higher (p < 0.05) values in the jejunum and ileum of the Zn- and probiotic-supplemented groups (alone + combination) when compared with the T2 group. The birds exposed to HS showed fewer (p < 0.05) intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) in the jejunum and ileum than the T1 group, while their count increased in the jejunum and ileum with dietary treatments. In conclusion, Zn and probiotic positively modulated the intestinal microstructures of broilers kept under high environmental temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Structural, electronic, optical and thermoelectric properties of quaternary semiconductor materials CsLnCdTe3 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd and Sm) are investigated using density functional theory. Structural parameters such as lattice constants, bulk modulii and bond lengths are found to be consistent with experimental data. The calculated electronic energy band gaps of CsLaCdTe3, CsPrCdTe3, CsNdCdTe3 and CsSmCdTe3 are 1.55 eV, 1.12 eV, 1.23 eV and 1.08 eV. Band gap energies of these compounds exhibit an obvious redshift compared to the base material CdTe (1.59 eV). The optical parameters reveal that these compounds are good dielectric materials. The Seebeck effect, electrical and thermal conductivities and power factor reveal that these compounds are p-type semiconductors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Little is known about the genetic and morphological characters of Paramphistomum epiclitum. For the first time in Pakistan, adult flukes were morphologically characterized and the sequence variation in the nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA) region, including the first internal transcribed spacers (ITS1) and the 5.8S gene of the Paramphistomum epiclitum were studied. Methods: Adult amphistomes were examined by light microscopy and sequences of ITS1 and 5.88S rDNA genes were obtained. Results: Twenty adult flukes were measured, 13.17 ± 1.19 mm in length and 5.28 ± 1.34 mm in width. Seventeen adult flukes were sequenced and high sequence variability was observed in 5′ end of ITS1 region. The 5.8S and 3′ end of ITS1 sequences had 100% identity among the samples. A comparative analysis revealed that different types and numbers of repeats were found within each ITS1 region. The 3′ end of ITS1 region from P. epiclitum showed 98% homology with P. cervi from China and formed a subclade with genetic distance of 0.1663. The 5.8S gene showed 100% identity within Paramphistomidae family and formed a sub-clade with P. epiclitum, P. leydeni, P. cervi and Cotylophoron cotylophorum species isolated from China, India and Uruguay. Quaternary perovskites CaA3V4O12 (A = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu) have been studied theoretically using a generalized gradient approximation along with Hubbard potential (GGA + U) in the domain of density functional theory (DFT). A decrease in the lattice constants of these compounds is observed when going from CaMn3V4O12 to CaCu3V4O12 due to the increase in the number of electrons in the trending of the metals. Electron charge densities in different crystallographic planes show that the bonds between Ca–O, A/V–O and A–V are ionic, covalent and metallic, respectively. The electronic band structures show the metallic behavior of these compounds except that CaMn3V4O12 and CaFe3V4O12 are half-metals. The elastic moduli of these compounds indicate the hardness and increases in a sequence going from CaMn3V4O12 to CaCu3V4O12, and also reveal their ductile nature. The optimized energies in different magnetic phases and the post-DFT calculations confirm that CaMn3V4O12 and CaCo3V4O12 are anti-ferromagnetic, and CaFe3V4O12 and CaNi3V4O12 are ferromagnetic, whereas CaCu3V4O12 is a paramagnetic material. This article introduces an adaptive approach within the Bayesian Max-EWMA control chart framework. Various Bayesian loss functions were used to jointly monitor process deviations from the mean and variance of normally distributed processes. Our study proposes the mechanism of using a function-based adaptive method that picks self-adjusting weights incorporated in Bayesian Max-EWMA for the estimation of mean and variance. This adaptive mechanism significantly enhances the effectiveness and sensitivity of the Max-EWMA chart in detecting process shifts in both the mean and dispersion. The Monte Carlo simulation technique was used to calculate the run-length profiles of different combinations. A comparative performance analysis with an existing chart demonstrates its effectiveness. A practical example from the hard-bake process in semiconductor manufacturing is presented for practical context and illustration of the chart settings and performance. The empirical results showcase the superior performance of the Adaptive Bayesian Max-EWMA control chart in identifying out-of-control signals. The chart's ability to jointly monitor the mean and variance of a process, its adaptive nature, and its Bayesian framework make it a useful and effective control chart. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to introduce a novel family of probability distributions by the well-known method of the T–X family of distributions. The proposed family is called a "Novel Generalized Exponent Power X Family" of distributions. A three-parameters special sub-model of the proposed method is derived and named a "Novel Generalized Exponent Power Weibull" distribution (NGEP-Wei for short). For the proposed family, some statistical properties are derived including the hazard rate function, moments, moment generating function, order statistics, residual life, and reverse residual life. The well-known method of estimation, the maximum likelihood estimation method is used for estimating the model parameters. Besides, a comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to assess the efficacy of this estimation method. Finally, the model selection criterion such as Akaike information criterion (AINC), the correct information criterion (CINC), the Bayesian information criterion (BINC), the Hannan–Quinn information criterion (HQINC), the Cramer–von-Misses (CRMI), and the ANDA (Anderson–Darling) are used for comparison purpose. The comparison of the NGEP-Wei with other rival distributions is made by Two COVID-19 data sets. Recently, omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LC-PUFAs) have gained substantial interest due to their specific structure and biological functions. Humans cannot naturally produce these fatty acids (FAs), making it crucial to obtain them from our diet. This comprehensive review details n-3 LC-PUFAs and their role in promoting and maintaining optimal health. The article thoroughly analyses several sources of n-3 LC-PUFAs and their respective bioavailability, covering marine, microbial and plant-based sources. Furthermore, we provide an in-depth analysis of the biological impacts of n-3 LC-PUFAs on health conditions, with particular emphasis on cardiovascular disease (CVD), gastrointestinal (GI) cancer, diabetes, depression, arthritis, and cognition. In addition, we highlight the significance of fortification and supplementation of n-3 LC-PUFAs in both functional foods and dietary supplements. Additionally, we conducted a detailed analysis of the several kinds of n-3 LC-PUFAs supplements currently available in the market, including an assessment of their recommended intake, safety, and effectiveness. The dietary guidelines associated with n-3 LC-PUFAs are also highlighted, focusing on the significance of maintaining a well-balanced intake of n-3 PUFAs to enhance health benefits.
