Background: Approximately 10% of newborns require assistance at delivery, and heart rate (HR) is the primary vital sign providers use to guide resuscitation methods. In 2016, the American Heart Association (AHA) suggested electrocardiogram in the delivery room (DR-ECG) to measure heart rate during resuscitation. This study aimed to compare the frequency of resuscitation methods used before and after implementation of the AHA recommendations. Methods: This longitudinal retrospective cohort study compared a pre-implementation (2015) cohort with two post-implementation cohorts (2017, 2021) at our Level IV neonatal intensive care unit. Results: An initial increase in chest compressions at birth associated with the introduction of DR-ECG monitoring was mitigated by focused educational interventions on effective ventilation. Implementation was accompanied by no changes in neonatal mortality. Conclusions: Investigation of neonatal outcomes during the ongoing incorporation of DR-ECG may help our understanding of human and system factors, identify ways to optimize resuscitation team performance, and assess the impact of targeted training initiatives on clinical outcomes. This paper identifies the impact of increasing post-childbirth work incentives on mothers' long-run careers. We exploit variation in work incentives across mothers based on the timing of a first birth and eligibility for the 1993 expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit. Ten to nineteen years after a first birth, single mothers who were exposed to the expansion immediately after birth ("early"), rather than 3–6 years later ("late"), have 0.62 more years of work experience and 4.2 percent higher earnings conditional on working. Background: There has been limited research on the lasting impact of giving birth on both mothers and infants. This study aimed to investigate women's memories of their childbirth experience 4 months and 4 years after giving birth. Additionally, it aimed to examine how the childbirth experience is linked to women's mental health, sexual satisfaction, exclusive breastfeeding, and the type of subsequent birth. Methods: In this prospective cohort study, a total of 580 women giving birth in Tabriz hospitals in 2018 were followed up for 4 years. The data were collected using a childbirth experience questionnaire, a mental health inventory, and a sexual satisfaction scale for women, and were analyzed by a Pearson correlation test, an independent samples t-test, and a general linear model. Results: The total scores of the childbirth experience in two short-term (4 months) and long-term (4 years) time points following the birth had a significant and strong correlation with each other (r =.51; p <.001). After adjusting for the effects of socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics, sexual satisfaction had significant relationships with childbirth experience (p <.001) and postpartum complications (p <.001). In addition, mental health had significant relationships with childbirth experience (p <.001), postpartum complications (p <.001), and low income (p =.004). Conclusions: Even 4 years after giving birth, women have a clear recall of their childbirth experience. This experience has a significant association with long-term outcomes such as sexual satisfaction, mental health, exclusive breastfeeding, and subsequent birth type. Plain Language Summary: Childbearing is a significant event in a mother's life. Women often remember the births of their babies distinctly, even after many years. However, some mothers do not perceive this life event as a positive one. Factors affecting this perception are multidimensional and may include demographic variables and obstetric events (e.g., immediate postpartum complications like hemorrhage), which contribute to negative childbirth experiences. It's important to note that women who feel unsupported or lack control during labour and childbirth are more likely to have negative birth experiences. Although a birth experience is influenced by various factors, this can have serious consequences, such as mental health problems, disrupted mother-infant bonding, and reluctance to have subsequent pregnancies or initiate or continue breastfeeding. Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) can be prevented by early detection and treatment of intracranial aneurysms in high-risk individuals. We investigated whether individuals at high risk of aSAH in the general population can be identified by developing an aSAH prediction model with electronic health records (EHR) data. To assess the aSAH model's relative performance, we additionally developed prediction models for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and compared the discriminative performance of the models. We included individuals aged ≥35 years without history of stroke from a Dutch routine care database (years 2007–2020) and defined outcomes aSAH, AIS and ICH using International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes. Potential predictors included sociodemographic data, diagnoses, medications, and blood measurements. We cross-validated a Cox proportional hazards model with an elastic net penalty on derivation cohorts and reported the c-statistic and 10-year calibration on validation cohorts. We examined 1,040,855 individuals (mean age 54.6 years, 50.9% women) for a total of 10,173,170 person-years (median 11 years). 17,465 stroke events occurred during follow-up: 723 aSAH, 14,659 AIS, and 2,083 ICH. The aSAH model's c-statistic was 0.61 (95%CI 0.57–0.65), which was lower than the c-statistic of the AIS (0.77, 95%CI 0.77–0.78) and ICH models (0.77, 95%CI 0.75–0.78). All models were well-calibrated. The aSAH model identified 19 predictors, of which the 10 strongest included age, female sex, population density, socioeconomic status, oral contraceptive use, gastroenterological complaints, obstructive airway medication, epilepsy, childbirth complications, and smoking. Discriminative performance of the aSAH prediction model was moderate, while it was good for the AIS and ICH models. Background: Approximately 10 to 20% of pregnant women worldwide experience perinatal depression (PND), a depressive episode with onset during pregnancy or after childbirth. We performed a systematic review to identify, summarize and discuss studies on inflammatory biomarkers described in relation to PND. Method: Inclusion criteria defined the selection of observational studies written in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese, that evaluate analytical levels of inflammatory molecules (protein levels) in biological fluids in women, with a diagnosis of depression using ICD/DSM diagnostic criteria or depressive symptoms assessed by standardized psychometric instruments, during pregnancy and/or postpartum. Case reports, experimental studies, reviews, qualitative analysis, meta-analysis, gray literature or replicated data were excluded. Three electronic databases were used for search (Pubmed, Web of Science and PsychInfo) and quality assessment of selected studies were performed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Data extraction included study design; number of subjects; obstetric information; tools and timepoints of depression and inflammatory markers assessment. Results: 56 studies (sample size for cross-sectional and case-control studies ranging from 10 to 469; sample size for longitudinal studies ranging from 26 to 467), where the major aim was to analyze the association between depression and inflammatory biomarkers during pregnancy and postpartum period were included in this systematic review. Overall, the findings of our systematic review lend support to the hypothesis that several inflammatory markers may be associated with peripartum depressive symptoms. The associations were somewhat different looking at pregnancy compared to the delivery time-point and postpartum, and mainly referred to increased levels of IL-6, IL-8, CRP and TNF-α among depressed. Discussion: In summary, our systematic review findings provide evidence supporting the hypothesis that several inflammatory markers may correlate with peripartum depressive symptoms. However, our work also highlighted notable differences in the timing of biological sampling for inflammatory markers and in the methodologies used to assess depression during the perinatal period. Additionally, variations were observed in how inflammatory biomarkers and depression were approached, including their classification as exposure or outcome variables, and the timing of assessments. It is essential for future research to investigate the influence of biological fluids and the timing of assessments for both inflammatory biomarkers and depression to gain a deeper understanding of their association. In women who are getting older, the quantity and quality of their follicles or oocytes and decline. This is characterized by decreased ovarian reserve function (DOR), fewer remaining oocytes, and lower quality oocytes. As more women choose to delay childbirth, the decline in fertility associated with age has become a significant concern for modern women. The decline in oocyte quality is a key indicator of ovarian aging. Many studies suggest that age-related changes in oocyte energy metabolism may impact oocyte quality. Changes in oocyte energy metabolism affect adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) production, but how related products and proteins influence oocyte quality remains largely unknown. This review focuses on oocyte metabolism in age-related ovarian aging and its potential impact on oocyte quality, as well as therapeutic strategies that may partially influence oocyte metabolism. Background: The Ponseti method for treating clubfoot consists of initial treatment with serial casting accompanied by achillotenotomy if needed, followed by the maintenance phase including treatment with a foot abduction orthosis (FAO) for at least four years. This study aimed to examine the duration, course, and outcome of orthotic treatment in children with clubfoot. Methods: 321 children with clubfoot, born between 2015 and 2017, registered in the Swedish Pediatric Orthopedic Quality Register (SPOQ), were included in this prospective cohort study. Data on deformity characteristics and orthotic treatment were extracted. For children with bilateral clubfoot, one foot was included in the analysis. Results: Of the 288 children with isolated clubfoot, 274 children (95.5%) were prescribed an FAO, and 100 children (35%) changed orthosis type before 4 years of age. Of the 33 children with non-isolated clubfoot, 25 children (76%) were prescribed an FAO, and 21 children (64%) changed orthosis type before 4 years of age. 220 children with isolated clubfoot (76%), and 28 children with non-isolated clubfoot (84%) continued orthotic treatment until 4 years of age or longer. Among children with isolated clubfoot, children ending orthotic treatment before 4 years of age (n = 63) had lower Pirani scores at birth compared to children ending orthotic treatment at/after 4 years of age (n = 219) (p = 0.01). It was more common to change orthosis type among children ending orthotic treatment before 4 years of age (p = 0.031). Conclusions: The majority of children with clubfoot in Sweden are treated with an FAO during the maintenance phase. The proportion of children changing orthosis type was significantly greater and the Pirani score at diagnosis was lower significantly among children ending orthotic treatment before 4 years of age. Long-term follow-up studies are warranted to fully understand how to optimize, and individualize, orthotic treatment with respect to foot involvement and severity of deformity. Level of evidence: II. Background: Childbirth is a long-lasting physiological stress. As one of the main stressors, labor pain exists throughout the whole process. Childbirth self-efficacy is the confidence, or belief that they can manage pain during childbirth. This sense of self-efficacy determines how pregnant women deal with labor pain and enables them to regulate their behavior and actively deal with childbirth. However, the difference in pain sensitivity between single births (primiparas) and multiple births (multiparas) has rarely been investigated. Objectives: This study is aimed at investigating self-efficacy, fear of childbirth, labor pain of primiparas and multiparas and exploring factors related to the perceived labor pain intensity of pregnant women. Design: Prospective cross-sectional study. Setting(s): Labour and delivery in a large academic specialized hospital in Guangzhou, China. Participants: A total of 347 women, (182 primiparas and 165 multiparas) were enrolled in the data analysis. Pain was assessed before cervical dilatation (cervical dilatation ≤ 3 cm for the first delivery and ≤ 2 cm for the second delivery). Method: The general information of participants was obtained by questionnaire and obstetrical records of the subjects were obtained from the electronic medical records extracted from the electronic medical record system (EMRS). Childbirth self-efficacy, fear of childbirth (FOC) and labor pain were compared between primiparas and multiparas. Paired t-test, chi-square test, Mann–Whitney test, univariate and multivariate regression analysis were used to analyze labor pain between the two groups and investigate factors related perceived labor pain intensity. Results: The total scores related to fear of childbirth, fetal health, self-control, and labor pain injury of multiparas were notably reduced compared with primiparas (all P < 0.05). The perceived labor pain intensity and duration of the first stage of labor was reduced in the multipara group compared with the primipara group. The childbirth control sense of the multipara was better than that of the primipara. The perceived labor pain intensity was negatively correlated with advanced age (age ≥ 35 years), self-efficacy score, family support, and education (all P < 0.05). In contrast, the perceived labor pain intensity was positively correlated with tension, severe fear of childbirth, and anxiety (P < 0.05). Self-efficacy, gravidity, delivery cognition, and fear of childbirth were independent risk factors for the perceived labor pain intensity in the latent period (all P < 0.05). Conclusions: Fear of childbirth is a predictor of perceived labor pain intensity. The extent of labor pain (minimum and maximum) can be predicted by the level of fear the expectant mother has. Birth registration is a child's basic legal and social right that grants them presence and security in their lifetime. However, it was initiated very recently, and its magnitude has not been well examined in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study assessed the magnitude of birth registration of children under two years old in Southwestern Ethiopia. This community-based cross-sectional study was conducted on randomly selected 689 mothers or caregivers who had children less than 24 months from 15 April 2023 to 05 June 2023. The study was carried out in Bench Sheko Zone, located in the South West Region of Ethiopia. Face-to-face interviews were used to collect data. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to determine the factors associated with birth registration. In this study, 26.4%, 95% CI (23.2–29.6%) children were registered for birth. Mothers/caregivers who had a notification about birth registration and certification during pregnancy (AOR = 21.8, 95% CI 11.7–40.9) and information about birth registration after delivery (AOR = 3.9, 95% CI 1.4–11.3) were more likely to register for birth and certification compared to their counterparts while mothers/caregivers who had lower income and poor knowledge were less likely to register for birth and certification of their children. The region's current birth registration rate is low, with only one-fourth of all births registered. Birth notification, information about birth registration, knowledge and income level were all significant predictors of registration. Key strategies such as improving information dissemination, promoting institutional deliveries, empowering economic capacity, and increasing community engagement for improving the current birth registration level are needed to ensure that every child's birth is officially recognized. Background: Mistreatment during childbirth is a growing concern worldwide, especially in developing countries, such as Iran. In response, we launched a comprehensive implementation research (IR) project to reduce mistreatment during childbirth and enhance positive birth experiences in birth facilities. This study identified the challenges of implementing a multi-level intervention to reduce mistreatment of women during childbirth using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). Methods: An exploratory qualitative study, involving 30 in-depth interviews, was conducted between July 2022 and February 2023. Participants included a purposive sample of key stakeholders at different levels of the health system (macro: Ministry of Health and Medical Education; meso: universities of medical sciences and health services; and micro: hospitals) with sufficient knowledge, direct experience, and/or collaboration in the implementation of the studied interventions. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and coded using directed qualitative content analysis (CFIR constructs) in MAXQDA 18. Results: The identified challenges were: (1) individual level (childbirth preparation classes: e.g., adaptability, design quality and packaging, cosmopolitanism; presence of birth companions: e.g., patient needs and resources, structural characteristics, culture); (2) healthcare provider level (integrating respectful maternity care into in-service training: e.g., relative priority, access to knowledge and information, reflecting and evaluating); (3) hospital level (evaluating the performance of maternity healthcare providers: e.g., executing, external policies and incentives); and (4) national health system level (implementation of pain relief during childbirth guidelines: e.g., networks and communications, patient needs and resources, executing, reflecting and evaluating). Conclusions: This study provides a clear understanding of the challenges of implementing a multi-level intervention to reduce mistreatment of women during childbirth and highlights potential implications for policy makers and practitioners of maternal health programs. We encourage them to take the lessons learned from this study and revise their current programs and policies regarding the quality of maternity care by focusing on the identified challenges. Background: Mortality rate estimation in small areas can be difficult due the low number of events/exposure (i.e. stochastic error). If the death records are not completed, it adds a systematic uncertainty on the mortality estimates. Previous studies in Brazil have combined demographic and statistical methods to partially overcome these issues. We estimated age- and sex-specific mortality rates for all 5,565 Brazilian municipalities in 2010 and forecasted probabilistic mortality rates and life expectancy between 2010 and 2030. Methods: We used a combination of the Tool for Projecting Age-Specific Rates Using Linear Splines (TOPALS), Bayesian Model, Spatial Smoothing Model and an ad-hoc procedure to estimate age- and sex-specific mortality rates for all Brazilian municipalities for 2010. Then we adapted the Lee-Carter model to forecast mortality rates by age and sex in all municipalities between 2010 and 2030. Results: The adjusted sex- and age-specific mortality rates for all Brazilian municipalities in 2010 reveal a distinct regional pattern, showcasing a decrease in life expectancy in less socioeconomically developed municipalities when compared to estimates without adjustments. The forecasted mortality rates indicate varying regional improvements, leading to a convergence in life expectancy at birth among small areas in Brazil. Consequently, a reduction in the variability of age at death across Brazil's municipalities was observed, with a persistent sex differential. Conclusion: Mortality rates at a small-area level were successfully estimated and forecasted, with associated uncertainty estimates also generated for future life tables. Background: Negative childbirth experiences can be related to the onset of perinatal post-traumatic stress symptomatology (P-PTSS), which significantly impacts the mother and the infant. As a response in the face of the discomfort caused by P-PTSS, maladaptive emotion regulation strategies such as brooding can emerge, contributing to the consolidation of post-partum depressive symptoms. Ultimately, both types of symptomatology, P-PTSS and post-partum depression, can act as risk factors for developing mother-child bonding difficulties. Still, this full set of temporal paths has to date remained untested. The present longitudinal study aimed to analyze the risk factors associated with the appearance of P-PTSS after post-partum and to test a path model considering the role of P-PTSS as an indirect predictor of bonding difficulties at eight months of postpartum. Methods: An initial sample of pregnant women in the third trimester of gestation (N = 594) participated in a longitudinal study comprising two follow-ups at two and eight months of postpartum. The mothers completed online evaluations that included socio-demographic data and measures of psychological variables. A two-step linear regression model was performed to assess the predictive role of the variables proposed as risk factors for P-PTSS, and a path model was formulated to test the pathways of influence of P-PTSS on bonding difficulties. Results: A history of psychopathology of the mother, the presence of depression during pregnancy, the presence of medical complications in the mother, and the occurrence of traumatic birth experiences all acted as significant predictors of P-PTSS, explaining 29.5% of its variance. Furthermore, the path model tested further confirmed an indirect effect of P-PTSS, triggered by a negative childbirth experience, on subsequent bonding difficulties eight months after labor through its association with higher levels of brooding and, ultimately, postpartum depression levels. A further path showed that bonding difficulties at two months postpartum can persist at eight months postpartum due to the onset of brooding and postpartum depression symptoms. Conclusion: We identified a set of robust predictors of P-PTSS: the mother's previous history of depression, perinatal depression during pregnancy, the presence of medical complications in the mother and the occurrence of traumatic birth experiences, which has important implications for prevention. This is particularly relevant, as P-PTSS, when triggered by a negative childbirth experience, further indirectly predicted the development of mother-child bonding difficulties through the mediation of higher use of brooding and symptoms of postpartum depression. Background: Being aware of the possibility of becoming pregnant shortly after childbirth before the resumption of the menstrual period is often overlooked but remains a significant contributor to unintended pregnancies and may lead to maternal and neonatal comorbidities. Exploring the extent of awareness and associated factors could help tailor more interventions toward reducing the rates of short-interval unplanned pregnancies. Objective: This study explores the extent to which Ghanaian women are aware of the possibility of becoming pregnant shortly after childbirth before the resumption of the menstrual period and its associated factors. Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted using the 2017 Ghana Maternal Health Survey. The women participants were sampled using a two-stage cluster sampling design. Methods: We analyzed the 2017 Ghana Maternal Health Survey data of 8815 women who had given birth and received both antenatal care and postnatal checks after delivery in health facilities (private and public) and responded to questions on being aware of short interpregnancy intervals. A multivariable survey logistic regression was used for the analysis. Results: Of the 8815 women, approximately 62% of women who received both antenatal care and postnatal examinations before discharge reported being aware of short interpregnancy intervals. Postnatal examination before discharge but not antenatal care was associated with a higher awareness of short interpregnancy intervals. Women who received a postnatal examination were more aware of short interpregnancy intervals than their counterparts (adjusted odds ratio = 1.29, 95% confidence interval: 1.03–1.61). Also, awareness of short interpregnancy intervals increased with age, education, knowledge of the fertile period, contraceptive use, and delivery via cesarean section. Conclusion: Over a decade following the initiation of Ghana's free maternal health policy, there remains a significant gap in the awareness of short interpregnancy intervals, even among women who received both antenatal pregnancy care and postnatal examinations before discharge. The unawareness of the short interpregnancy interval observed in approximately 38% of women raises concerns about the effectiveness of counseling or education provided during antenatal care and immediate post-partum care regarding birth spacing, contraceptive use, the timing of resumption of sexual activity, and the extent to which women adhere to such guidance. One possible way this unplanned pregnancy could happen is through unknowingly becoming pregnant soon after birth before menstruation resumes. However, the more we know about pregnancy soon after birth before menstruation resumes, the better we can introduce measures to reduce it. This study examines how well Ghanaian women are aware of the possibility of becoming pregnant soon after birth before menstruation resumes and factors that may influence the awareness. This study analyzed 2017 data collected from women who received pre-delivery care and post-delivery checks before discharge from a health facility. The study findings revealed that 38% of the 8815 women who received both pre-delivery care and post-delivery checks were unaware of pregnancy soon after birth before menstruation resumed. Factors such as post-delivery checks, contraceptive use, delivery through cesarean section, women aged 30 years and over with secondary education and higher, and having knowledge of the periods more appropriate for a woman to be pregnant were more aware of pregnancy soon after birth before menstruation resumed. We proposed that effective counseling and adherence from women who are not planning to get pregnant soon after birth could help reduce the rate of pregnancy soon after birth before menstruation resumes. Background: Worldwide mothers are suffering from postpartum depression (PPD) which impairs mothers' well-being, children, and families, and leads to adverse outcomes for mothers and their growing newborns. Low and middle-income countries have a higher prevalence of PPD and limited studies about it. This study assessed the percentage of Palestinian mothers experiencing PPD nationally, identified mothers at a higher risk of PPD, and studied the correlation between PPD and mistreatment during childbirth. Methods: The study is based on a secondary data analysis from a cross-sectional study in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt). A total of 745 telephone-based interviews with mothers were done within 2–4 weeks post-childbirth. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) was used as a screening tool for PPD. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used for analyzing the data. Results: In the context of descriptive epidemiology, we observed that 12.6% of the selected Palestinian mothers experienced PPD, with a higher occurrence of PPD among mothers living in the Gaza Strip, a politically and economically unstable region in Palestine, compared to mothers living in the West Bank (Adjusted Odd Ratio (AOD: 2.2, Confidence Interval (CI): 1.4–3.44). Older mothers were two times more likely to develop PPD compared to young mothers (AOR: 2.03, CI: 1.070–3.84). Mothers who experienced disrespectful behaviors represented by any abuse, negligence, abandonment, ineffective communication, or poor pain management in childbirth settings were more likely to report PPD than those who were not exposed to the disrespect. Conclusion: A notable percentage of Palestinian mothers were identified as experiencing PPD, especially among mothers who experienced mistreatment in childbirth settings. Background: In group-based pregnancy models, antenatal care and childbirth/parenting education are provided in groups of eight to 10 women, usually with two midwives, and six to eight sessions. Current evidence is inconclusive regarding potential benefit or harm. We aimed to explore the feasibility of implementing an adequately powered randomised controlled trial (RCT). Methods: A two-arm pilot RCT was conducted in a tertiary maternity hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Women were randomly allocated to either the intervention to receive group-based antenatal care and education (group care) or to usual care, which included hospital-based midwife, caseload midwifery, team midwifery, or GP shared care. Participants were English-speaking, primiparous, low risk, and < 24 weeks gestation at booking. Data collection: feasibility measures throughout pilot, baseline questionnaire at recruitment, clinical outcome data from the medical record, and a telephone-administered questionnaire 6 weeks postpartum. A focus group explored midwives' views. Results: Seventy-four women were recruited from May to June 2017 (group care = 40, usual care = 34). Study uptake was 35%. Women allocated to group care rated their overall pregnancy care more highly (88% good/very good vs 77% in usual care). There was no evidence of harm related to group care. Overarching themes from the midwives were that group care helped 'build connections' and 'empower women'. All midwives would work in the model again and believed it should be expanded. Conclusion: Group care was acceptable to both women and midwives with no evidence of harm. The pilot demonstrated the feasibility of undertaking a large adequately powered RCT, important given the inconclusive evidence on clinical outcomes regarding the model, and its current relatively widespread implementation. Introduction: Globally, a shift is occurring to recognize the importance of young peoples' health and well-being, their unique health challenges, and the potential they hold as key drivers of change in their communities. In Haiti, one of the four leading causes of death for those 20–24 years old is pregnancy, childbirth, and the weeks after birth or at the end of a pregnancy. Important gaps remain in existing knowledge about youth perspectives of maternal health and well-being within their communities. Youth with lived experiences of maternal near-misses are well-positioned to contribute to the understanding of maternal health in their communities and their potential role in bringing about change. Objectives: To explore and understand youth perspectives of maternal near-miss experiences that occurred in a local healthcare facility or at home in rural Haiti. Methods: We will conduct a qualitative, community-based participatory research study regarding maternal near-miss experiences to understand current challenges and identify solutions to improve community maternal health, specifically focused on youth maternal health. We will use Photovoice to seek an understanding of the lived experiences of youth maternal near-miss survivors. Participants will be from La Pointe, a Haitian community served by their local healthcare facility. We will undertake purposeful sampling to recruit approximately 20 female youth, aged 15–24 years. Data will be generated through photos, individual interviews and small group discussions (grouped by setting of near-miss experience). Data generation and analysis are expected to occur over a three-month period. Ethics and dissemination: Ethics approval will be sought from Centre Médical Béraca in La Pointe, Haiti, and from the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board in Hamilton ON, Canada. We aimed to investigate how factors such as age, education level, planned delivery method and fear of childbirth were affected in pregnant women before and during the pandemic. This cross-sectional study compared a pre-pandemic pregnant group (July 2019 and December 2019) and a pandemic group (November 2020 and May 2021) of patients at Kütahya Health Sciences University Evliya Çelebi Training and Research Hospital. A total of 696 pregnant women in their second trimester were included in the study. All of them were literate and voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected with the Wijma delivery expectancy/experience questionnaire (WDEQ-A), and the outpatient doctor asked the questions face-to-face. The mean age of the pregnant women participating in the study was 31.6 ± 6.8 years. While the total Wijma score was 62.1 ± 25.1 in the pre-pandemic group, it was 61.3 ± 26.4 in the pandemic group, and there was no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.738). Upon analyzing the fear of childbirth among groups based on education level, no statistically significant differences were observed between the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods within any of the groups. While 25.7% (n = 179) of all participants had a normal fear of childbirth, 22% (n = 153) had a mild fear of childbirth, 27% (n = 188) had a moderate fear of childbirth, and 25.3% (n = 176) had a severe fear of childbirth (Wijma score of 85 and above). When the pre-pandemic and the pandemic period were compared, the fear of childbirth was unchanged in pregnant women at all education levels (p = 0.079, p = 0.957, p = 0.626, p = 0.539, p = 0.202). When comparing fear of childbirth before and after the pandemic, it was found that patients with a high school education level have a significantly higher fear of childbirth. Background: Intact cord resuscitation in the first three minutes of life improves oxygenation and Apgar scores. The practise of intact cord resuscitation implies the umbilical cord still being connected to the placenta for at least one minute while providing temperature control and equipment for resuscitation. Healthcare professionals described practical challenges in providing intact cord resuscitation. This study aimed to explore neonatal healthcare professionals' experiences of providing intact cord resuscitation in the mother's bed. Method: An interview study with an inductive, interpretative approach was chosen and analysed according to reflexive thematic analysis by Braun & Clarke. An open interview guide was used and 20 individual interviews with neonatal healthcare professionals were performed. The study was conducted at five level I-III neonatal care units. In Sweden, resuscitation is performed either in or outside the labour room. Results: The results contributed insight into the participants' experiences of prerequisites for providing neonatal care in intact cord resuscitation. The sense of the mother's vulnerability was noticeable, as the participants reported reducing the risk of exposure to protect and preserve the mother's integrity. The practical challenges in the environment involved working in a limited space. The desire for multi-professional team training comprised education and training as well as debriefing to manage intact cord resuscitation. Conclusion: The result of the present study highlights the fact that neonatal healthcare professionals' experiences of providing ICR in the mother's bed were positive and had significant benefits for the neonate, namely zero separation between the neonate and parents and better physical recovery for the neonate. However, the fact that ICR in the mother's bed can be challenging in several ways, such as emotionally, managing environmental circumstances and ensuring effective team collaboration. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that healthcare professionals are given the opportunity to reflect and train together as a team. Background: A birth companion is a powerful mechanism for preventing mistreatment during childbirth and is a key component of respectful maternity care (RMC). Despite a growing body of evidence supporting the benefits of birth companions in enhancing the quality of care and birth experience, the successful implementation of this practice continues to be a challenge, particularly in developing countries. Our aim was to investigate the acceptability, adoption, appropriateness, feasibility, and fidelity of implementation strategies for birth companions to mitigate the mistreatment of women during childbirth in Tehran. Methods: This exploratory descriptive qualitative study was conducted between April and August 2023 at Valiasr Hospital in Tehran, Iran. Fifty-two face-to-face in-depth interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of women, birth companions, and maternity healthcare providers. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using content analysis, with a deductive approach based on the Implementation Outcomes Framework in the MAXQDA 18. Results: Participants found the implemented program to be acceptable and beneficial, however the implementation team noticed that some healthcare providers were initially reluctant to support it and perceived it as an additional burden. However, its adoption has increased over time. Healthcare providers felt that the program was appropriate and feasible, and it improved satisfaction with care and the birth experience. Participants, however, highlighted several issues that need to be addressed. These include the need for training birth companions prior to entering the maternity hospital, informing women about the role of birth companions, assigning a dedicated midwife to provide training, and addressing any physical infrastructure concerns. Conclusion: Despite some issues raised by the participants, the acceptability, adoption, appropriateness, feasibility, and fidelity of the implementation strategies for birth companions to mitigate the mistreatment of women during childbirth were well received. Future research should explore the sustainability of this program. The findings of this study can be used to support the implementation of birth companions in countries with comparable circumstances. Background: The cannabinoid receptor (CBR) plays a significant role in oogenesis, pregnancy, and childbirth. It might also play a significant role in preterm birth (PTB). The aim of the study was to investigate the association between the expression of the CBR in the placenta and the incidence of PTB. Methods: This prospective, observational, multicentre preliminary study was conducted on placental samples obtained from 109 women. The study included 95 patients hospitalized due to the high risk of PTB. They were divided into two groups: Group 1, where the expression of the CBR1 and CBR1a was analyzed, and Group 2, in which we examined CBR2 expression. The control group, that is, Group 3, consisted of 14 women who delivered at term, and their placentas were tested for the presence of all three receptor types (CBR1, CBR1a, and CBR2). Results: The study used reverse transcription and real-time PCR methods to assess the expression of CBRs in the placental tissues. The expression of the CBR2, CBR1, and CBR1a receptors was significantly lower in the placentas of women after PTB compared to those after term births, p = 0.038 , 0.033, and 0.034, respectively. In light of the introduction of the three-child policy and the current decline in birth rates in China, there remains a lack of a comprehensive understanding of how the discourse surrounding pregnancy and postpartum is publicly addressed, framed, and navigated within Chinese social media. This study delves into the portrayal and framing of childbirth-related topics on WeChat public accounts, which serve as an open online media platform where Chinese users predominantly access daily information. Employing content analysis with the Complementary Explorative Data Analysis framework, we examined 155 posts about pregnancy and childbirth from diverse WeChat public accounts. This analysis revealed the identification of four generic and four issue-specific frames. Our research sheds light on a postfeminist ideology embedded within the discourses of motherhood on WeChat public accounts, marked by two distinct characteristics. First, it manifests in the juxtaposition of two narratives: the idealization of celebrities and the portrayal of self-independent ordinary women. Second, it operates within the bounds of state censorship, given the substantial influence of the Chinese government in shaping and restricting discussions on gender, reproduction, and motherhood. Obesity presents significant challenges during pregnancy, increasing the risk of complications and adverse outcomes for both mother and baby. With the rising prevalence of obesity among pregnant women, questions arise regarding optimal management, including timing of delivery and choice of delivery mode. Labour induction in obese women may require a combination of mechanical and pharmacological methods due to increased risk of failed induction. Caesarean section in obese women presents unique challenges, requiring comprehensive perioperative planning and specialized care to optimize outcomes. However, specific guidelines tailored to obese patients undergoing caesarean sections are lacking. Postpartum care should include vigilant monitoring for complications. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide a detailed analysis of clinical and laboratory factors associated with skewed secondary sex ratio (SSR) after ART. Method: Retrospective cohort study of embryos resulting in live births, from frozen and fresh single blastocyst transfers. Embryos were cultured in either G-TL (n = 686) or Sage media (n = 685). Data was analyzed using a multivariate logistic regression model and a mixed model analysis. Results: Significantly more male singletons were born after culture in Sage media compared to G-TL media (odds ratio (OR) 1.34, 95% CI (1.05, 1.70), P = 0.02). Inner cell mass grade B vs A (OR 1.36 95% CI (1.05, 1.76), P = 0.02) and one previous embryo transfer (OR 1.49, 95% CI (1.03, 2.16), P = 0.03) were associated with a significantly higher probability of male child at birth. Factors associated with a reduced probability of male child were expansion grade 3 vs 5 (OR 0.66, 95% CI (10.45, 0.96), P = 0.03) and trophectoderm grade B vs A (OR 0.57, 95% CI (0.44, 0.74), P = 0.00). Male embryos developed significantly faster in Sage media compared to G-TL media for the stages of blastocyst (− 1.12 h, 95% CI (− 2.12, − 0.12)), expanded blastocyst (− 1.35 h, 95% CI (− 2.34, − 0.35)), and hatched blastocyst (− 1.75 h, 95% CI (− 2.99, − 0.52)). Conclusion: More male children were born after culture in Sage media compared to G-TL media. Male embryo development was affected by culture media. How a woman experiences birth is influenced by how she is treated, and who has power and control in the birthing environment. Focus on 'delivery' of an infant disregards the transformative event for the woman, with poorer physical and psychological outcomes. New evidence is needed to understand how to prevent trauma and improve maternal wellbeing. This paper presents a feminist methodology to view the lived experience of caesarean birth. Feminist birthing theories integrated with a phenomenological perspective provide insight for those working in maternity care and create a novel framework for researchers considering the position of women in a medicalised healthcare system. Some studies have suggested a link between celiac disease (CD) and adverse maternal, obstetrical, and neonatal outcomes. Using a large database, we evaluated the effect of CD on pregnancy outcomes. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) of all deliveries from 2015 to 2019 in the United States. Using ICD-10 codes, we identified pregnant patients who had CD and those who did not. A multivariate logistic regression was used to generate odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for maternal, obstetrical, and neonatal outcomes. Of 12,039,222 deliveries between 2015 and 2019, there were 10,555 births in women with CD. Pregnant women with CD were more likely to be white and older compared to those without CD. Pregnant women with CD were significantly more likely to carry a diagnosis of gestational hypertension (OR 1.26; 95% CI 1.04–1.52), preeclampsia (1.28; 1.08–1.53), and severe preeclampsia (1.62; 1.25–2.09). They were less likely to have a full-term uncomplicated delivery (OR 0.11; 95% CI, 0.05–0.20), while being more likely to require device-assisted delivery (1.25; 1.04–1.50) and sustain 3rd or 4th degree vaginal lacerations (1.56; 1.21–2.02). Babies of pregnant women with CD were more likely to be small for gestational age (SGA) (OR 1.29; 95% CI 1.03–1.61). CD in pregnancy appears to be associated with increased adverse maternal, obstetrical, and neonatal outcomes. The comfort level of the laboring mother is greatly affected by her choice of delivery position. The fact that giving birth is often difficult has a profound effect on women’s satisfaction with both the experience itself and the care they get. Different birthing positions are available to a pregnant woman at the time of delivery. Currently, most births occur with the mother resting on her back or sitting up in an almost-seated position. Birthing in an upright posture is less common than lying on one’s side, on one’s back, or on one’s hands and knees. The optimal posture for women to be in during the second stage of labor is not well supported by research. The purpose of this article was to assess the level of knowledge about various birthing positions among pregnant women and to evaluate the benefits and hazards of the most frequently used birthing positions. This research examined the relationship between exemplar characteristics and concern for maternal health disparities. A two-wave 2 (familiarity) X 2 (vividness) between-subjects experiment tested the effects of exemplar familiarity and vividness on attitudes toward maternal health and maternal health disparities, perceptions of disparate risk, and policy support after exposure to a story about a mother who faced complications during childbirth and again three to five days later. The moderating role of political ideology was also examined. Results revealed positive effects of vividness on attitudes toward maternal mortality in general, attitudes toward maternal health disparities, and support for policies to address them in the short-term. Effects on general attitudes persisted three to five days later. Contrary to predictions, no effects were found for familiarity at Time 1. A familiar exemplar elicited more negative attitudes toward maternal mortality at Time 2. Examination of the moderating role of politics revealed the impact of vividness on general attitudes and policy support was greater among conservative participants, compared to more liberal participants. In addition to extending the applicability of exemplification theory to perceptions of risk toward others and subsequent policy support, this research has practical applications for bringing public attention to racial health disparities. Breastfeeding provides physical, psychological, and immunological benefits to both the mother and infant, but breastfeeding rates are suboptimal. The purpose of this study was to examine whether residing in a maternity care desert (a county with no hospital offering obstetric care and no OB/GYN or certified nurse midwife providers) was associated with lower breastfeeding rates among birthing people in Louisiana from 2019 to 2020. Data provided by the March of Dimes were used to classify Louisiana parishes by level of access to maternity care. Using data on all live births provided by the Louisiana Office of Vital Records (n = 112,151), we fit adjusted modified Poisson regression models with generalized estimating equations and exploratory geospatial analysis to examine the association between place of residence and breastfeeding initiation and racial disparities in initiation. We conducted a secondary within-group analysis by fitting the fully adjusted model stratified by race/ethnicity for non-Hispanic white and non-Hispanic Black birthing people. We found that residing in a parish with limited (odds ratio [OR] = 0.87; 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.77, 0.99]) to no access (OR = 0.88; 95% CI [0.80, 0.97]) was significantly associated with lower breastfeeding initiation rates. The within-group analysis determined that both non-Hispanic Black and non-Hispanic white birthing people residing in a parish with limited or no maternity care access had lower breastfeeding initiation rates. Objectives: Public health interventions to reduce maternal mortality have largely focused on obstetric causes of death. However, previous studies have noted that non-obstetrics factors, such as motor vehicle accidents, substance overdoses, homicides, and suicides, may account for a large proportion of maternal deaths. The study objective was to examine trends in maternal deaths from non-obstetric causes across races in the United States (US). Methods: A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 80,710,348 live births using data from the "Birth Data" and "Mortality Multiple Cause" files compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2000 to 2019. The annual incidence of maternal deaths attributed to non-obstetric causes (/100,000 live-births) during pregnancy and up to 42 days postpartum were calculated across racial groups. Then the effects of race on the risk of non-obstetric maternal mortality and temporal changes over the study period were examined using logistic regression models. Results: From 2000 to 2019, a total 7,334 women died during pregnancy, childbirth, and within 42 days postpartum from non-obstetric causes, representing 34.5% (7,334/21,241) of all maternal mortality. Of non-obstetric deaths, 31.3% were caused by transport accidents and 27.3% by accidental poisoning. American Indian women were found to have the highest risk of non-obstetric maternal mortality (OR 2.20,95% CI 1.90–2.56), and 46.1% (176/382) of all deaths among pregnant American Indian women were caused by non-obstetric complications. Risk of non-obstetric maternal mortality increased overall during the 20-year study period, with a greater increase among Black (1.15, 1.13–1.17) and American Indian women (1.17, 1.13–1.21). Conclusion: Non-obstetric causes of death have become increasingly prevalent in the US, especially in American Indian women. Novel interventions to address these non-obstetric factors should especially target American Indian women to improve maternal outcomes. Few studies have considered non-obstetric causes of maternal death. In the late 19th century, the legal status of the anatomical specimen was only slowly evolving into its modern form. Not yet regulated by legislation, specimens were subject to rampant commodification and were exhibited, collected, bought, and sold, internationally as well as locally. This article considers the status of anatomical preparations at a moment when medical school curricula were fast becoming standardised, surgical techniques increasingly refined, and methods for preserving the body perfected. Focusing on foetal remains, I explore how the use of anatomical specimens mediated between the well-established, if still controversial, practice of dissection and an increasing emphasis on the visual as a privileged mode of constructing the biomedical body. Through close analysis of specimens in British and American collections, I trace the shifting meanings, value, and significance attributed to anatomical preparations in this era. Linking foetal specimens to the medicalisation of pregnancy, contemporary discoveries in embryology, and growing debate around abortion, I argue that the emerging concept of foetal personhood challenged and inflected how specimens were understood, highlighting their hybrid nature as both potential human subjects and objects of knowledge. Background: Respectful maternity care (RMC) refers to the humane and dignified treatment of a childbearing woman throughout her pregnancy, childbirth and immediate postpartum period. Disrespect and abuse of women during labour, childbirth and immediate postpartum period in health facilities is one of the reasons which deter them from further utilizing maternal healthcare services. The present study was thus undertaken to determine to what extent RMC practices are being followed in a health facility in Manipur. Materials and Methods: A cross‑sectional study was conducted from May 2022 to August 2022 in a Health facility among women coming for institutional delivery along with direct observations of the labour room. The study tool comprises a semistructured questionnaire related to respectful maternity care which was adapted from the Person‑Centered Maternity Care Scale, a validated instrument. The direct observation method was carried out using a checklist adapted from a standardized tool developed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Descriptive statistics were generated and approval of the study was obtained from the Institutional Ethics Committee. Results: A total of 336 (99.1%) women reported at least one form of disrespect or abuse during childbirth. Maximum abuse (91.4%) was reported in the facility and environment domain. Direct observation done on 22 deliveries in the labour room found that 72.7% of the women experienced at least one form of disrespect and abuse. Two (9.1%) women were observed to face physical force or abusive behaviour. Conclusion: Almost all the women reported at least one form of disrespect or abuse during childbirth. There is a need to improve the health facilities and women need to be treated with dignity and respect as it is being violated according to the findings in many studies as with ours. Individuals have faced unprecedented uncertainty and risk surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, and decision-making dilemmas have been complicated by quickly evolving and often contradictory recommendations for staying healthy. Using tenets of problematic integration theory and risk orders theory, we analyzed interview data from 50 mothers who gave birth during the pandemic to understand how uncertainty and risk perceptions shaped their decision-making about keeping themselves and their infants healthy in the first year after birth. Results describe how some mothers in our sample made sense of their decision-making to prioritize first-order risks to their own and their family's physical health, and other mothers prioritized second-order risks to their relationships and identities. We also discuss the social nature of mitigating risk during the COVID-19 pandemic and the catalysts for shifting risk perceptions. Theoretical and practical implications include improving public health messaging and clinical conversations to enable individuals to effectively manage social and identity needs alongside serious threats to physical health. Despite recent applications of a developmental psychopathology perspective to the perinatal period, these conceptualizations have largely ignored the role that childbirth plays in the perinatal transition. Thus, we present a conceptual model of childbirth as a bridge between prenatal and postnatal health. We argue that biopsychosocial factors during pregnancy influence postnatal health trajectories both directly and indirectly through childbirth experiences, and we focus our review on those indirect effects. In order to frame our model within a developmental psychopathology lens, we first describe "typical" biopsychosocial aspects of pregnancy and childbirth. Then, we explore ways in which these processes may deviate from the norm to result in adverse or traumatic childbirth experiences. We briefly describe early postnatal health trajectories that may follow from these birth experiences, including those which are adaptive despite traumatic childbirth, and we conclude with implications for research and clinical practice. We intend for our model to illuminate the importance of including childbirth in multilevel perinatal research. Summary: Across the perinatal transition, existing research focuses mainly on significant changes in sleep duration and quality, neglecting sleep timing. This study investigated change trajectories of sleep timing and chronotype from late pregnancy to 2 years postpartum and examined longitudinal associations of chronotype with symptoms of insomnia, daytime sleep‐related impairment, and mood. Data were from a two‐arm randomised controlled trial testing parent‐focused wellbeing interventions. Participants were a community sample of nullipara without severe sleep/mental health conditions. Participants self‐reported bedtime, rise‐time, chronotype, insomnia symptoms, sleep‐related impairment, depression, and anxiety at seven time points: gestation Weeks 30 and 35, and postpartum Months 1.5, 3, 6, 12 and 24. Trajectories were estimated using mixed‐effects models with continuous time, quadratic splines, and a knot at childbirth, controlling for age and group allocation. A total of 163 participants (mean [SD] age 33.35 [3.42] years) took part. Bedtime and rise‐times delayed during late pregnancy (~8 and ~20 min, respectively) but became progressively earlier (~20 and ~60 min, respectively) over the 2 postpartum years. Chronotype became more eveningness in late pregnancy, and more morningness after childbirth, however changes were small. Controlling for sleep duration and efficiency, greater morningness was associated with significantly less symptoms of insomnia and sleep‐related impairment over time (all p < 0.001); longitudinal associations between chronotype and symptoms of depression and anxiety were non‐significant (all p > 0.65). Sleep–wake timing and chronotype became progressively earlier from pregnancy to 2 years postpartum. Morningness chronotype may be sleep‐protective during the transition from pregnancy to parenthood. This article discusses a study on the effectiveness of the counterpressure technique with a birth ball in managing labor pain and influencing labor progression. The study found that while the technique did not significantly reduce pain levels or influence uterine contractions, it did lead to a significant increase in cervical dilation compared to the control group. The study suggests that the counterpressure technique may facilitate labor progression by impacting cervical dilation. However, further research is needed to better understand the mechanisms behind this effect and optimize its use in clinical practice. Epidemiological studies suggest that maternal diet quality during pregnancy may influence the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring. Here, we investigated associations between maternal intake of dietary fiber and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in early childhood. We used longitudinal data of up to 21,852 mother-father-child trios (49.2% female offspring) from MoBa (the Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study). The relationships between maternal fiber intake during pregnancy and offspring ADHD symptoms at ages 3, 5, and 8 years were examined using 1) multivariate regression (overall levels of ADHD symptoms), 2) latent class analysis (subclasses of ADHD symptoms by sex at each age), and 3) latent growth curves (longitudinal change in offspring ADHD symptoms). Covariates were ADHD polygenic scores in child and parents, total energy intake and energy-adjusted sugar intake, parental ages at birth of the child, and sociodemographic factors. Higher maternal prenatal fiber intake was associated with lower offspring ADHD symptom scores at all ages (B age3 = −0.14 [95% CI, −0.18 to −0.10]; B age5 = −0.14 [95% CI, −0.19 to −0.09]; B age8 = −0.14 [95% CI, −0.20 to −0.09]). Of the derived low/middle/high subclasses of ADHD symptoms, fiber was associated with lower risk of belonging to the middle subclass for boys and girls and to the high subclass for girls only (middle: odds ratio boys 0.91 [95% CI, 0.86 to 0.97]/odds ratio girls 0.86 [95% CI, 0.81 to 0.91]; high: odds ratio girls 0.82 [95% CI, 0.72 to 0.94]). Maternal fiber intake and rate of change in child ADHD symptoms across ages were not associated. Low prenatal maternal fiber intake may increase symptom levels of ADHD in offspring during childhood, independently of genetic predisposition to ADHD, unhealthy dietary exposures, and sociodemographic factors. The fertility gap, which indicates the difference between the planned and actual number of children born, can be explained by the shift in parenthood to older ages and is associated with the non-attainment of one's intended reproductive plans. This paper focuses on the gap in the timing of entry into parenthood, i.e. between the planned and actual age at the birth of the first child. The study is based on data from the Women 2016 survey which re-interviewed women of fertile age from the second wave of the Czech Generations & Gender Survey conducted in 2008. At the population level, the fertility timing gap differs across generations. While for Czech women born between 1966 and 1971 the planned age exceeded the actual observed age by one year, the realisation of fertility occurred two years later than planned for the youngest generation (1983–1990) included in the study. Aim: The aim of this scoping review was to map and summarise clinical trials that attempted to prevent obesity in children from birth to 7 years of age in any of the Nordic countries. Methods: PubMed, CINAHL Plus and clinicaltrials.gov were searched for peer‐reviewed papers and registered trials published in English or Swedish. The overall search period was from 1 January 2002 to 13 December 2022. We included randomised and non‐randomised trials initiated from birth to 7 years of age that aimed to prevent obesity in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Results: The search resulted in 414 papers and 14 were included. Despite having diverse settings and designs, none of them reported consistently favourable results for anthropometric outcomes, apart from beneficial trends in subgroups with a high body mass index at baseline. Most studies reported temporarily improved dietary patterns. Conclusion: There is a gap in the current research about how to best prevent obesity in children. We suggest that researchers should focus on risk groups and that interventions that last a number of years are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The modifiable risk factors with levator ani muscle avulsion include forceps and vacuum delivery. • The non-modifiable risk factors with levator ani muscle avulsion include obstetric anal sphincter injuries and maternal age. • This is the first meta-analysis of both modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors associated with LAM avulsion. Women have a 11% lifetime risk of undergoing surgery for vaginal prolapse. Levator ani muscle (LAM) avulsion is one etiological factor associated with primary and recurrent pelvic organ prolapse. Pelvic organ prolapse has been shown to greatly affect the quality of life and well-being of women. Conduct a meta-analysis identifying risk factors associated with LAM avulsion recognised on transperineal ultrasound (TPUS) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in primiparous women after vaginal birth. OVID Medline, Embase and the Cochrane Library from inception to January 2021 were searched. Review Manager 5.3 (The Cochrane Collaboration) was used to analyse data. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated. The heterogeneity among studies was calculated using the I2 statistic. Twenty-five studies were eligible for inclusion (n = 9333 women). Major LAM avulsion was diagnosed in an average of 22 % (range 12.7–39.5 %) of cases. Twenty-two studies used TPUS and three used MRI to diagnose avulsion. Modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors were identified. Significant predictors identified were forceps (OR 6.25 [4.33 – 9.0]), obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OR 3.93 [2.85–5.42]), vacuum (OR 2.41 [1.40–4.16]), and maternal age (OR 1.06 [1.02–1.10]). This is the first meta-analysis of both modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors associated with LAM avulsion. This information could be used to develop a clinically applicable risk prediction model to target postnatal women at risk of LAM avulsion with a view to prevent the onset of pelvic floor organ prolapse. Background: The fear of positive HIV results has been reported as a determinant of HIV testing among pregnant women and women of reproductive age. When pregnant women know about discriminatory practices toward other people based on their HIV-positive status, it may impact their testing for HIV. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the association between Nigerian pregnant women's knowledge of discriminatory practices against persons living with HIV and their self-reported HIV testing during antenatal visits or childbirth. Methodology: A secondary analysis of data from 659 t women who had experienced pregnancy aged 15-49 years from the 2013 Nigeria Demographic Health Survey (NDHS) was done. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was done to determine the association between knowledge about discriminatory practices towards HIV-positive individuals (independent variable) and HIV testing during pregnancy (dependent variable) after controlling for covariates (demographic characteristics). A P-value of = 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: Bivariate logistic regression analysis findings showed that educational level, place of residence, and religion statistically significantly predicted HIV testing of pregnant women, while age categories and marital status did not. The women's knowledge of discriminatory practices towards persons living with HIV/AIDS was not statistically significant at Alpha = 0.05 (AOR, 1.51; 95% CI: .46, 4.95) Higher levels of education (Primary Education, AOR = 1.81; 95% CI: 1.03, 3.18; Secondary Education, AOR = 3.73; 95% CI: 1.92, 7.25; Higher Education, AOR = 10.92; 95% CI: 4.25, 28.05) and those living in urban areas (AOR = 1.62; 95% CI: 1.04, 2.51) were significantly associated with testing for HIV in the stepwise multivariable regression model of pregnant women's knowledge of discriminatory practices towards persons living with HIV/AIDS. Conclusion: Although knowledge of discriminatory practices did not predict pregnant women's HIV testing in this study, interventions by stakeholders to eliminate or reduce these practices should be stepped up towards facilitating positive social change. In low fertility settings, religious people tend to have larger families than non-religious people. One way religious individuals may achieve larger relative family sizes is through support from their families. In this paper, we investigate the relationships between religiosity, kin contact, allomaternal investment from relatives, and fertility in two high income low fertility settings: the United Kingdom and the United States. Data for this pre-registered research come from an online survey of 609 women living in the US and 919 women living in the UK, recruited through Prolific, who answered questions about their religious practices, childbirth histories, social networks, and allomaternal networks. We find that, compared with less religious peers, more religious women: 1) have more geographically diffuse kin networks (particularly in the UK) but have social networks that are equally kin-dense; 2) receive more allomaternal support from kin beyond their partner, particularly help with household tasks, though the countries differ in the exhibited relationship between religiosity and partner support; and 3) have higher fertility in both countries. We do not find strong evidence for a mediating role of allomaternal support on the relationship between religiosity and fertility. Our study highlights important variation in the relationship between religion and fertility across two high income low fertility countries and raises new questions about the role that religion plays in allomaternal support networks in these settings. According to WHO (2019), the Maternal Mortality Rate is the number of maternal deaths resulting from pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum processes, which are used as indicators of women's health status. Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is one of the global targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to reduce maternal mortality (MMR) to 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030. Several efforts to reduce MMR have been carried out by the Padang City government, including implementing the Childbirth Planning and Prevention of Complications (P4K) Program, using MCH books, implementing classes for pregnant women, and health counseling activities. This quantitative research uses a pocketbook of the bride and groom using leaflet media. This is a guide for brides-to-be as part of marriage advice and guidance for those who have registered their marriage at the Regional Office of Religious Affairs (KUA). The subject of this study was a bride-to-be in Padang City. INTRODUCTION In the early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, inadequate intrapartum care protocols were in place. Many organizations have responded promptly and recognized the importance of adherence to appropriate guidelines. The International Confederation of Midwives issued an official statement on 29 March 2020, which states that every woman has the right to information, to give consent, to refuse consent, and to have her choices and decisions respected and upheld. No research has been conducted in Lithuania to reveal the care of women who gave birth during the COVID-19 pandemic and the application of informed consent to interventions. METHODS This study is quantitative of cross-sectional design. An anonymous questionnaire survey method was used. One hundred fifty-two women who gave birth in Lithuania during the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2020 - May 2022) and had COVID-19 infection during childbirth, participated in the study. Statistical data analysis was performed. RESULTS During the COVID-19 pandemic, women's care was characterized by always or almost always adequate information from health professionals on all issues to minimize the stress of new procedures necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic and allowing them to stay with newborns as long as possible. The application of the principle of informed consent to interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic was not always applied to the performance of transvaginal examination manual compression of the uterine fundus to facilitate the expulsion period. CONCLUSIONS Most women said that they were properly informed by healthcare professionals about all questions related to the new procedures that became necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic and felt included in their own choice. Fever during childbirth, which is often observed in clinical settings, is characterized by a temperature of 38°C or higher, and can occur due to infectious and non-infectious causes. A significant proportion of non-infectious causes are associated with epidural-related maternal fever during vaginal delivery. Therapeutic interventions are required because fever has adverse effects on both mother and newborn. Effective treatment options for ERMF are lacking. As it is difficult to distinguish it from intrauterine infections such as chorioamnionitis, antibiotic administration remains the only viable option. We mentioned the importance of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist in the sterile inflammatory fever pathway and the hormonal influence on temperature regulation during childbirth, an important factor in elucidating the pathophysiology of ERMF. This review spotlighted the etiology and management of ERMF, underscoring recent advancements in our understanding of hypothalamic involvement in thermoregulation and its link to sterile inflammation. We propose to deepen the understanding of ERMF within the broader context of autonomic neuroscience, aiming to foster the development of targeted therapies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
