Latina immigrant women raising children who are attending or have attended schools in the United States are dealing with particular challenges of becoming bilingual and bicultural in a mainstream society. Their own personal experiences inform and shape their mothering practices and ways of educating. This article describes how the mothering practices of these women are part of their home pedagogies. In enacting these pedagogies, Latina mothers are the creators of a cultural curriculum of the home that entails ways of knowing, being, and doing that are not necessarily aligned with those that the dominant culture validates. These differing ways of being are essential for the development of the (bi)cultural identity of their children. Using diverse theoretical frameworks to theorize and analyze these narratives, I braid them together in the configuration of mestizaje epistemologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diaspora literature and theory offer significant critiques of traditional ideas regarding nationstates, identities and dominant cultures. While it is true that the literature of the diaspora has been receiving increasing attention as of late, it is worth noting that works written in the diasporans' native languages are generally not included in wider discussions about the more complex issues related to the diaspora. As an initial corrective for this deficiency, this article explores selected stories in Punjabi, paying special attention to issues relevant to the lives and experiences of women in diaspora. Diasporic conditions, as most of these stories seem to assert, can be painful for women, but even while negotiating within a diverse system of values, many of them eventually discover possibilities for independence and growth. Such personal improvements are attainable due to their newfound economic liberation, but hard-won economic independence comes with a price. The inclusivity implied by identitary hyphens (i.e. Chinese-American; Mexican-American, etc.), so celebrated in diaspora writings in English, are almost as a rule missing in the fictional accounts studied here. In these accounts, an essential feature of diasporic subjectivity is the double sense of "Otherness" strongly felt by people who, having extricated themselves from the cultural demands of their original group, are not unchallenged members of the dominant culture. This paper looks at contemporary circus as a physical, artistic practice that cultivates utopia, through reshaping values, dreams, subjectivities and socio-cultural logics in dedicated training and performing places. Circus training cultivates a community of bodies and generates tensions and discrepancies between the vision and values it predicates and their implementation in a neoliberal world. The present and future, personal and political sides of life intertwine in shaping and unsettling circus utopia. The lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic provided circus practitioners with time and new lenses to consider hopes, fears, doubts and certainties. The circus training utopia is explored drawing on the meanings, representations and definitions circulating among a diversity of actors and sites involved in processes of learning, participation and identity building through circus practices. Data were generated before the lockdown through interviews and participant observation conducted mainly in and around the city of Turin, Italy, and during the lockdown through analysis of specialized media and online conversations within the Italian circus scene. Insights are presented into how the lockdown reinforced and disrupted ideals about the appearance, skills and learning capacity of the circus body; the creative and disciplined character of circus practitioners; the alternative circus life of passion, fun, freedom, challenges and achievements; and the circus community resisting dominant culture and mainstream within the cultural field. Tensions emerged towards and against consistent, structured and widespread dialogue among actors and organizations, stronger public advocacy and claims for institutional recognition and support. These shed light on the fragmented character of the contemporary circus field in Italy, but also placed emphasis on and raised awareness about the need to build a stronger and more cohesive circus community, able to raise a common voice, empowering enough to stay on the utopic course while navigating COVID-19 society and its future. It is increasingly argued that polymathy—vocational and avocational pursuits in multiple domains—is deeply associated with creativity and innovation, and that its development enables the creation of important bridges between otherwise fragmented, dispersed sets of knowledge. Nevertheless, the dominant culture in both industry and academia is still that of narrow specialization. In this paper, we argue that in the context of COVID-19 crisis, with its wicked and transdisciplinary nature, the disciplinary approach of specialization is ill-suited to solve our increasingly complex problems, and that polymathic thinking can be a crucial asset in this regard. Drawing on different literature strands, we first examine the interplay between polymathy and other well-developed constructs in personality and temperament research. We then advance theoretical predictions regarding the relationship between trait polymathy and resilience in the COVID-19 crisis. After that, we discuss learnable strategies that can be used in complex, uncertain and adverse situations, which are associated with development of a more polymathic (broader, deeper and more integrated) set of knowledge. Later, we discuss how it may be possible to better capitalize on the key features of polymathic thinking at the societal level. Finally, we conclude with a reflection on the adequacy of our current institutions for dealing with complex problems, and we underscore the crucial role of polymathic thinking in an increasingly complex and interrelated world. Purpose - Within the framework of Resource-Based View (RBV) we evaluated the relationship between corporate culture and superior business performance in a sample of 62 Latin American firms traded on the NYSE. Design/methodology/approach - Data retrieved from 20-F forms and the CRSP database, covering the period 2011-2016, was submitted to multiple linear regression with robust errors and random effects. Findings - Our results revealed that i) the 7 Latin American countries represented in the sample displayed a very similar mix of corporate culture, with a slight predominance of the competitive type, ii) less indebted and larger firms attained higher levels of superior business performance, and iii) auditing by one of the Big Four was associated with better performance in firms with competitive and creative culture. In the multiple regression analysis, creative culture was the best explanatory factor of superior corporate performance. Thus, we conclude that a culture with an emphasis on innovation generates competitive advantage. Originality/value - The organizations should make efforts to understand and manage the dynamics of corporate culture, harnessing their own dominant culture in the quest for superior corporate performance. As posited by RBV, our results show that investment in creative and innovative culture is particularly favorable to the creation of competitive advantage and, consequently, business performance. The analysis of the ways early career investigators from 32 countries frame the notion of ‘research impact’ in the Social Sciences and the Humanities (SSH) reveal some obvious commonalities. There is a convergent tendency to describe impact as an object of great concern that operates mostly through communication, while avoiding any absolute definition of the notion. Respondents associate impact to the concept of accountability and share the perception that impact does not currently belong to the dominant academic culture. Differentiations and even divergences in framing appear though in regard to the cognitive or social nature of impact as well as in the extent to which respondents associate the processes of conducting scientific research with or dissociate them from the creation of social impact. As such, five common argumentative frames of impact and six differentiated or divergent ones are brought to light. While commonalities can be related to shared socio-professional circumstances, the observed differentiations and divergences in framing are linked to the diversity of disciplinary, national and institutional contexts within which scholars are trained and conduct their research. Because of the coexistence of commonalities, differentiations, and divergences in early career investigators’ framing of impact, it is argued that research impact in the SSH is best conceptualized as a ‘boundary object’ (Star and Griesemer, 1989). We conclude that attempts to frame impact within a narrower perspective – whether in scholarly discourse or policy making – would finally reduce the diversity of contextualized opportunities for SSH scholars to engage in any valuable creation of impact. We must recognize that our current language to describe the work and purpose of adult education sets a "dominant culture" social dynamic between teacher and student. To anchor adult education in a genuine spirit and experience of equity, we must start with a fundamental shift from a one-way savior helper mindset to a two-way mutual learning mindset, a beneficial learning experience for both teacher and student. At Intercambio, we have found that the mutual learner mindset inspires our English-learning students to talk more often and honestly about their lives and perspectives. This accelerates language acquisition, amplifies students' voices, and opens doors for teachers to learn more and for students to teach. The reciprocal learning also deepens connections, reduces biases and assumptions, and increases a sense of belonging. All these changes lead to a more equitable, cohesive society and to increased participation and persistence rates at English programs. Adult English language learning programs are uniquely positioned to make this shift because of the literal and figurative doors they can open to profound, ongoing connections and conversations about race, class, ethnicity, language, religion, work status, and many other barriers. Scholars have established the difficulties inherent in proposals that employment may serve as a rescue route for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV). However, they have paid little attention to the possibility that those who do strive for employment experience a clash between the prevailing neoliberal policy and the patriarchal culture dominant in their relationship with their violent partners. Based on 33 in-depth interviews with IPV survivors, this study used a grounded theory approach to follow women's experiences in the personal and employment life domain. The authors propose that in order to understand employment in the field of IPV survivors, it is necessary to deploy a job quality perspective. Further, they found that a gendered conceptualization of job quality is required, one that is evaluated by three relational dimensions: employment spaces blocking IPV penetration, control over one's own income and a sense of skill recognition. These relational dimensions show that in participants' work lives, neoliberalism and patriarchy conflict with one another. Accordingly, the contradiction between these value systems must be taken into account in conceptualizations of their mutual reinforcement. This paper focuses on a radical dramatist Mark Ravenhill's political style and his play Product (2005) which represents Western society after 9/11 and the Iraq War. On the surface, the play has a distinctive form in which the action occurs inside the play. The structure of the play is confusing because the spectator/actor has to follow two actions as post 9/11 and the horror that the characters have to deal with. In the play, James, as a director, speaks with Olivia, the actress, about shooting a Hollywood film and playing Amy. James plans a long monologue which forms the root of the film and portrays a passionate love-affair between Amy and Mohamed during the post-9/11 period. Ravenhill, criticizing the manners of the UK's and the United States' governments, tries to reflect both terrorists' and victims' memories. From various perspectives, Product is a script that reveals how identity and self-presence are exploited and reconstructed by dominant media culture and religious fundamentalism. This research aims to seek cultural elements portrayed in one of the prominent Indonesian textbooks used at junior high school levels. An Indonesian textbook named Pathway to English (ELT textbook expanding circle countries) was selected and analyzed. The analysis was based on Chao (2011). The results showed the representation of all types of cultural elements in the text book; source culture, target culture, international culture, intercultural interaction, and universality across cultures were all present in this textbook. Also, the source culture was the most dominant cultural element; it implies that Indonesian culture plays a big part in the cultural content of English text books. Java and Bali provinces were dominant Indonesian cultures in the textbook. The limitation of this study is that the textbook is for firstgraders of junior high school (i.e., seventh grade), thus the exposure to the target and international cultures is limited. It has often been pointed out, by several researchers in postcolonial studies, that despite several distinctive images of 'the Orient' produced by Orientalists, most of them extensively associated 'the East' with 'the Other'. Thus, the perspective of postcolonial theories is that of trying to deconstruct the cultural dominance of Western colonizing subjects, and its impact on the present situation in former colonial nations. However, in contrast, in the case of attitudes in East European countries to non-European colonized people and their lands, there are concerns about the applicability of the critical concepts of domination or subordination. On the basis of a study of the perceptions of tourists from Slovakia visiting India and travel agencies providing services to the Indian subcontinent, this paper tries to capture some of the tendencies prevailing in recent images of India in the Slovak tourism sector. The evidence presented in this paper suggests that the Orientalist view of other cultures that formed during the colonial era can no longer be considered as solely a matter of the encounter between Anglo-European and Indian cultures, but instead, recently represents globalized way of thinking in the 'Westernized' world. This article considers various theoretical approaches specific to the postcolonial era and modern imperialism. The following approaches are noteworthy: the postcolonial discourse as a history and development discourse (A. Biccum); the postcolonial theories in relation to the interaction of the colonizer and the colonized (S. Slemon); the representation of cultural dominance (H. Münkler); the correlation between culture and imperialism (E. Said); the discourse of culture and wealth in the postcolonial era (B. Ashcroft). There are a number of the varieties of modern cultural imperialism, including: scientific imperialism ( J. Galtung); telecommunication imperialism ( J. Galtung, D.Y. Jin); and linguistic imperialism (R. Phillipson). The scope of general statements includes: the existence of a globalized empire; the possible influences of the colonizer and the colonized either via a direct influence or via the institutional regulators and the semiotic field; the significance of cultural imperialism in a general meaning of culture as a whole; the understanding of an empire as an overabundance of both wealth and culture under the common denominator of economics of discourse. Background: This paper explores traditional iterations of, and new challenges to, the tightly linked discourses of entrepreneurship and innovation within the maker movement. Methods: In a yearlong critical ethnographic study with 12 youth makers, we investigated how youth engaged with and redefined entrepreneurialism through their identity work as justice-oriented, community makers. Findings: Examining youth experiences of entering their making designs into a regional youth Entrepreneurial Faire, we found that the dominant cultures of making and entrepreneurialism at the Faire presented limited opportunities for equitable participation in either. However, youth makers' community justice-oriented efforts disrupted relationships of power among youth, adults, STEM-rich making, and society. Their critical youth approach argued for a new vision for entrepreneurialism/entrepreneurship. Youth reconfigured a critical maker-entrepreneurialism through practices multidimensionally grounded in a) re-humanizing making and b) building community. Their public discourses highlighted what this effort could produce for community justice and community well-being. Their critical reconfiguration actions revealed and challenged inequitable values and practices driven by inherent White, male, middle-class bias and neoliberalism. Contribution: Youth efforts call for a re-imagination and new recognition of what counts as participation, expertise, and success in both making and entrepreneurialism. Freud noticed the effect of civilization, which started with the prohibition of incest, on psychic economy. After Freud, Lacan examined the relationship between psychic structure and the Other (Autre) as symbolic order including language and the law in his work on returning to Freud. Name-of-the-Father (Nom-du-Père) is there as the first signifier enabling repression and regulating the relationship with the Other. There is a close relationship between the culture as civilization and psychic structure. Today, the culture and dominant discourse are changing. These changes discussed by Melman under the title of The New Psychic Economy (Nouvelle Économie Psychique - NEP) and its reflections in the practice of psychoanalysis are studied. Melman emphasized that reference to the Other is weakening, the technology eliminates the impossibility, and limitlessness has become popular and more preferred. Consequently, psychic structure is shaped through jouissance instead of repression and desire. In this recent article, some of the reflections of the change to clinical practice were discussed through a case example. The way of experiencing depression today, the difficulty in positioning in the symbolic order due to weak reference to the Other, efforts to find a solution through jouissance and the body but jamming in jouissance, and paranoiac form of relationship with others are focused discussion topics in the article. This article explores how the practice of BDSM sex parties within the queer community can inspire social structure alternatives conducive to sustainability. Drawing from the notion that the dominant social order of neoliberal hetero-patriarchy undermines our ability to address sustainability challenges as a collective, I demonstrate how the same culture disproportionately alienates the queer community. Taking from the theory of subaltern counterpublics, I highlight how social structures created at BDSM queer sex parties challenge dominant cultures and create spaces of inclusivity and radical participation, specifically through communication. This study aimed at developing Ibanag Orthography of the Ibanag-speaking communities in the provinces of Isabela and Cagayan in Region 02, Philippines. Results validated the existing and established rules on the Ibanag structure. However, no normative manual or grammar is to be considered as a law valid for every speaker of Ibanag language. It 's the political or cultural dominance which in practice can solve the language problems. Thus, the support of authoritative persons, organizations, institutions and language experts in the development of an appropriate Ibanag Orthography is a most favourable factor in establishing a writing system of the spoken language. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to establish the relationship between organizational culture (OC) and total quality management (TQM) practices in the Indian construction industry. Design/methodology/approach: A questionnaire survey was conducted to draw valid empirical data from 200 construction firms in India. The dominant culture was identified using cluster analysis. Findings: The findings of cluster analysis show four emergent clusters, namely, internal, flexible, comprehensive and control. The OC profile of the Indian construction organizations is dominated by internal focus characterized by the features of both group and hierarchical cultures of Competing Values Framework (CVF). Furthermore, the results revealed that the comprehensive focus culture is the most suitable culture in addition to the internal and flexibility focus cultures for the implementation of TQM in India. Practical implications: Before implementing the TQM practices, managers in construction organizations need to be aware of cultural orientation emphasized in their organizations to facilitate the effective implementation of TQM. Originality/value: This paper contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence that leads to the association between OC and TQM practices. The study proposes besides the internal and flexibility focus cultures, the comprehensive focus culture within the Indian construction industry are key drivers for the successful implementation of TQM practices. Formal and systemic boundaries can be problematic, for they easily become vehicles of normative attempts to polarize, enclose and isolate. A tactic that has high political currency today. This article elaborates on hybridity as methodology, expression and dynamic that can discard bodily and disciplinary boundaries in theatre and performance. Hybridity here will be discussed as a gale, an invisible and more-than-real current of affect, that reanimates the performer's body, sweeps through non-human bodies and technological instruments, grazes the stage as if it was skin and shakes the physical and formal limits of theatre like bones. Such an investigation must however acknowledge the origin of the term hybridity in enforced miscegenation; from this viewpoint, hybridity is a mark of the systemic, racial violence that whiteness has exerted against other human beings in the name of the supposed universality and purity of the white subject. Hence, my argumentation takes up Sabine Broeck's proposal to examine whiteness 'as a white (wo)man's burden' and sets out to analyse performance strategies that efface the universality of whiteness through modes of hybridization. Weaving resources on intercorporeality, affect and abjection from feminist, disability and posthuman studies, the essay analyses the hybrid in three artistic practices that, in my view, negate the alleged impregnability of the white subject and affirm its vulnerability: the theatrical living sculptures of Olivier de Sagazan, the dance-less bodyscapes of Maria Donata D'Urso and my own human-machine configurations. An aesthetic and methodological analysis of these works reveal that the very notion of pureness is in itself a fiction, constructed to inhibit the development of a multiplicity of actions and expressions beyond, and within, the borders of dominant cultures. Perceptions of Anglo-American dominance in movie and music trade motivate restrictions on cultural trade. Yet, the market for another cultural good, food at restaurants, is roughly ten times larger than the markets for music and film. Using TripAdvisor data on restaurant cuisines, along with Euromonitor data on overall and fast-food expenditure, this paper calculates implicit trade patterns in global cuisines for 52 destination countries. We obtain four results. First, the pattern of cuisine trade resembles the "gravity" patterns in physically traded products. Second, after accounting gravity factors, the most popular cuisines are Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and American. Third, excluding fast food, the largest net exporters of their cuisines are the Italians and the Japanese, while the largest net importers are the USA—with a 2015 deficit of over $140 billion—followed by Brazil, China, and the UK. With fast food included, the US deficit shrinks to $55 billion but remains the largest net importer along with China and, to a lesser extent, the UK and Brazil. Fourth, cuisine trade patterns more closely resemble migration patterns than patterns of food trade or patterns arising from the extent of arable land in origin countries. Cuisine trade patterns run starkly counter to the audiovisual patterns that have motivated concern about Anglo-American cultural dominance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The house is one of the most important possessions in individuals' lives and consumers perform several practices in order to turn this spatial product into a home. Building on the existing research on home and home possessions, the article challenges the western romantic notion of home by investigating poor migrant consumers' lived experiences with a spatial product that has material deficiencies and it is perceived as inferior by the members of the dominant host culture. Accordingly, this study explores how migrant and at the same time poor consumers turn the squatter house into a home. Through an ethnographic research, the research findings show how spatial, material, symbolic, social, and temporal dimensions shape the private sphere of home and how consumers individually and collectively negotiate all these of forces in order to turn the stigmatized dwelling into a home. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role that sexual orientation can play in entrepreneurial intention. Design/methodology/approach: By conducting a survey on a sample of 654 individuals and, among them, 266 LGB people in the Paris region (France), and using linear regressions, The authors test the impact of sexual orientation on the antecedents of entrepreneurial intention, as defined by Ajzen (1991), and on entrepreneurial intention. Findings: The study reveals that LGB people express a higher entrepreneurial intention than non-LGB people. The study also reveals that sexual orientation positively impacts the three antecedents of entrepreneurial intention, namely attitudes, perceived behavioral control and subjective norms. Research limitations/implications: The study was conducted in a specific context: an LGB-friendly region and among a population of well-educated people. One could also have investigated the impact of femininity and masculinity on entrepreneurial intention among this population. Practical implications: LGB people adopt entrepreneurial cognition different to that of other minorities, which tends to confirm that LGB entrepreneurial norms and beliefs are not really the same as those of the dominant culture. The study sheds light on the key antecedent one has to work on to increase the entrepreneurial intention of LGB people. Originality/value: This study reveals that LGB people, even in friendly LGB geographical areas, are still suffering from a lack of self-esteem. Indigenous musical modernities have thrived across centuries of innovation and mobilisation through both exchange and resistance. Settler colonialism seeks to deny Indigenous Peoples a 'contemporary' by asserting both a temporal and spatial boundary. The temporal and spatial boundaries intended for Indigenous Peoples foster expectations from the dominant white culture regarding Indigeneity. Cree Mennonite cellist Cris Derksen and Wolastoqi singer Jeremy Dutcher mobilise settler expectations and institutional opportunities in their distinctive musical practices. These musical practices are the results of exchange and dialogue between Euro-American classical music and Indigenous musics, resulting in what Dawn Avery calls 'Native Classical Music'. Such dialogues are negotiated through these musicians' resistance to Euro-American classical music hierarchies, settler logics about authenticity and their resourcefulness in navigating settler institutions. By analysing Derksen's combination of powwow music and newly composed classical pieces with Orchestral Powwow and Dutcher's integration of archival research with composition and performance with Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa, I argue that heterogeneous musical practices of contemporary Indigeneity thrive within and against the temporal and spatial constraints of settler colonialism. In a way, the history of Translation Studies, at least for the last decades, has been that of a continuous broadening of the field of study. If the 1990s witnessed the "cultural turn" famously heralded by Mary Snell-Hornby, more recently scholars have turned towards the role that translation plays in cultural dominance and cultural resistance, in what has been referred to as the power turn. At the same time, a converging movement could be observed from outside the field of Translation Studies: Some thinkers, in their quest for new intellectual paradigms to tackle the challenges faced by emancipatory projects, have veered towards translation as a way to overcome particularism and nationalism, while at the same time avoiding the risks of a monocultural universalism that is seen to lead inevitably to imperialism. Translation, by necessarily reaching out to the Other and creating hybridity, offers a unique chance to "square the circle" and find "equivalence in difference." In this paper, we discuss the ideas about translation of four such thinkers, coming from very different backgrounds and traditions: Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Étienne Balibar, Judith Butler and Boaventura de Sousa Santos. Before the Mongol conquest in 1279, numerous envoys were sent from the Southern Song court to its neighboring states. Their purpose was to evaluate and tame foreign territories and alien peoples and thereby reduce their threat to Song culture, and the travelogues resulting from these journeys were often "utilitarian" in style. The Record of the Perfected Master Changchun ' s Journey to the West (Changchun zhenren xiyou ji 長春真人西遊記), however, deserves special attention for its nuanced handling of a complex cultural-political power dynamics. Its compiler, Li Zhichang, was a leader in the Quanzhen sect, and his travelogue documents the journey of his master, Qiu Chuji, at the invitation of Chinggis (Genghis) Khan. Li's text illustrates the tension of competing political and cultural authorities: while the Mongols were becoming the source of political authority, the Taoists still owned the discursive power. The author argues that Li deliberately adopted a narrative strategy that conceded the Mongol claim to political legitimacy while simultaneously asserting Taoism's cultural dominance over the Mongols. The article also juxtaposes Li's work with the travel record by Yelü Chucai, a Khitan adviser to the Mongols who traveled with Chinggis Khan during his western military expeditions. Although Yelü's travelogue is often read as a rebuttal to Li Zhichang's work, a closer look reveals how Yelü appropriated Li's strategy for his own agenda: to justify Mongols' invasion of Central Asia while highlighting the cultural values shared between the Mongols and the Han Chinese. The cultural development cannot help displaying the language development as a whole, though it has its brightest reflection in vocabulary. There are no "pure languages" that would have evolved for over the millennia without any influence of the linguistic environment and neighbors. Ukraine's entry to the European cultural and educational sphere in the 16th-17th centuries contributed to spread and use on its territories such languages as: Ukrainian, Church Slavonic, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Yiddish, Armenian, Turkish, Kipchat-Tatar, Polish, German, Hungarian, Moldovan, Italian, French, etc. Written sources of the Ukrainian language of the 16th-17th centuries demonstrate the results of linguistic symbiosis - borrowings from different languages, among that Turkism is quantifiable. Borrowings from the Turkic languages are presented in almost all thematic groups of vocabulary, except for the judiciary, the mental activity (mental state) of a person, their language activity, influence, and will. The majority of Turkism is represented in the military sphere, which was caused by the long wars of Ukraine with the Turkic-speaking states, and also in the field of marking imported Eastern goods, in particular the names of fabrics, clothing, dishes, spices, seasoning, etc. Most of these lexemes function in modern Ukrainian language. Ukrainian linguists have done the first steps in the context of studying Ukrainian-Turkic interaction and outlined the main periods of Turkic-speaking influence, ways of the Turkism introduction into the Ukrainian language. However, there are also some gaps in the study of this problem, such as research on the influence of Turkic languages at different chronological levels of the Ukrainian language development and their role in forming the Ukrainian linguistic world. The main aim of this article is to develop a discussion on folklorization or how identity is commodified and reduced to only some cultural traits. Currently, folklorization is one of the main devices in PRC's cultural and political policies in Central Asia. Authors analyze folklorization both inter-state with a particular focus on Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and intra-state, with focus on Xinjiang, based on empirical data collected in these countries. The discussion provided is about China's soft power and how it is projected to Central Asia under the administration of Xi Jinping. Moreover, it is concerned about folklorization as a political tool, utilized by the PRC government to mitigate tensions in the Xinjiang region, but also folklorized landscapes to be found also in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Paddington Bear has been a recurring figure in English children's literature since the publication of A Bear Called Paddington in 1958. Texts featuring the character have spanned thirty-two books and, to date, two films. The films, in particular, have been praised by many for their sympathetic representation of a migrant to the UK. This essay seeks to argue that Paddington represents a problematically uncomplicated image of migration; he reads as non-threatening because he is an immigrant whose manners and outlook express, and upon whom audiences can project, qualities of Englishness. His foreignness does not manifest as discrete practices and expectations that must be negotiated within the dominant culture, then, but simply as a lack of knowledge. The Paddington texts are problematic in that, while ostensibly arguing for sympathy for migrants, they nonetheless affirm certain models of English identity which are tied to whiteness, imperialism, empiricism, the English language. The minor helps us theorize the possibilities of agency because it first raises questions about legibility and reliability. This article takes the example of class dynamics in postcolonial Malaysia to understand why meaningful changes to culture can be difficult to achieve when class consciousness determines what is "proper" or "good" behavior. The minor has limited capacities to disrupt dominant cultures because unless minor subjects subscribe to normative values and behaviors they become illegible, that is, invisible and marginalized. Audiovisual translation is an extremely influential means of intercultural communication among close or distant cultures. Dubbing is historically the main mode of film translation in Iran and has been increasingly investigated. Redubbing, however, as a form of retranslation, is barely researched in Persian. The main focus of this study is to investigate how the cultural and political issues of the time may influence media retranslation. The findings revealed that the dubbed versions before and after the revolution have been influenced by the dominant culture and politics of the time, but the extent and the subjects of interventions differed. We examine the prevalent issue of political, economic, social and cultural conditions of Indigenous groups in Western states as spatial constraints when they choose to stay put in their birthplace, even under conditions of environmental hazard. These constraints are imposed upon them by the government, the enveloping dominant culture and their own internal cultural codes and social structure. These issues are examined among two unrecognized Bedouin villages in Israel susceptible to industrial environmental hazards. The various spatial constraints are interpreted as spatial bars that become thicker under the environmental hazard. Most traumatic brain injury (TBI) outcome studies have been conducted in developed countries involving individuals from the dominant culture. The present study compared outcomes following TBI in individuals from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds with those from non-CALD backgrounds. 103 CALD and 103 non-CALD participants with predominantly moderate to severe TBI completed a series of questionnaires an average of 22 months post-injury. Groups were comparable in most demographic and injury-related variables, but CALD participants had lower pre-injury employment rates. Individuals in the CALD group were significantly less independent in light domestic duties, shopping, and financial management and reported significantly lower cognitive independence, mobility, and participation in occupational and social activities than non-CALD participants post-injury. They also reported heightened awareness of post-injury deficits, different beliefs regarding injury consequences and factors aiding recovery, more anxiety and depression symptoms, and less problem-focused coping. Higher functional outcome was associated with having a value system that is Australian, younger age at injury, and higher education. Overall, independent of rehabilitation access, individuals from a CALD background showed poorer functional outcome following TBI than those from a non-CALD background. The Gu in Chinese "?", is a kind of witchcraft. There are still some unfounded rumors that the keepers of the Gu gather hundreds of worms and perform magic arts in order to murder for gain. However, as it coincided with the southern environment, local diseases and regional culture, from the Sui and Tang dynasties on, it came to be regarded as an evil custom peculiar to some areas of southern China. With the gradual development of the South, the scope of the legendary "Gu" moved south as mainstream culture expanded into the southern regions of China; as far as Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and the Southwest, the south of the Yangtze River. Rather than being a simple matter of witchcraft, "Gu" embodies the self-centered, beggar-thy-neighbor way in which the ruling clique imagines and constructs the other. Consequently, the ruling group imagined and constructed the boundary between mainstream society and the marginalized society of "Gu", in order to maximize national resources and power and the high integration of its own society, while excluding those societies who still practiced the "Gu". Step by step, the ethnic group accused of having the "Gu" thus internalized and absorbed the stigma imposed onto them by mainstream society, reflecting the subtleties that exist, such as stigma, within marginalized cultures who must confront the dominant culture. This paper aims to analyze the narrative Report of a certain Orient (2008), by manauara Milton Hatoum, made public in 1989. Hatoum's narrative is shaped based on memories and displacements of marginalized groups, linked to a speech by formation of the Amazon, from the Rubber Cycle, as well as the Amazonian emancipation, in the late 1980s. Leaning on the perspective that the novel chosen for analysis is built on the experience of exile, wandering and displacement, still grounded, In the observation that their local selves are already clothed with global selves, we intend to reflect on the literary representation of these groups, whose collective identity has a negative meaning, sometimes by the dominant culture, sometimes by the collective social orientation. In 1930 the French composer Darius Milhaud achieved a major career milestone: his ambitious opera Christophe Colomb received its premiere at Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden. The premiere was the most prestigious of a surprisingly large number of performances of Milhaud's music in Germany in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Even as he found success in Germany, many French critics dismissed Milhaud's music as frivolous or incomprehensible, and in 1930 the Paris Ope'ra had yet to stage one of Milhaud's works. In the wake of the Berlin premiere, however, the specter of German cultural dominance provoked calls in Paris for reevaluation of Milhaud's work. In response, the director of the Paris Ope'ra, Jacques Rouche', quickly secured the right to stage Milhaud's next opera, Maximilien, and Milhaud subsequently received a string of state commissions. After years of struggle with French critics and institutions, Milhaud's success abroad finally precipitated official recognition at home. Milhaud owed his popularity in Germany and the subsequent transformation in his French reception to his relationship with the Viennese music publisher Universal Edition. Unpublished correspondence and contracts reveal how the firm orchestrated Milhaud's success in Germany through a network of affiliated conductors, composers, and institutions. Universal Edition and its director, Emil Hertzka, played crucial but largely unrecognized roles in advancing Milhaud's early career, and Milhaud's letters demonstrate his keen appreciation for the advantages that working with Universal brought, both to his finances and to his international reputation. The transnational collaboration that enabled Milhaud's German reception and facilitated his path to official recognition ultimately offers a thought-provoking counterexample to the historiography of chauvinism and antipathy that otherwise dominates narratives of interwar Franco-German musical relations. The present study focuses precisely on the next imperative: the semantic recalibration of the concept of multiculturality, currently mistaken for interculturality, not only by politicians and journalists, but even by some philologists having claims. By reducing the problem to linguistic differences, the latter have promoted the confusion at the level of innovation of the approach perspective, maintaining the discourse at the phenomenological level, without touching the tectonics of the social ontology. Therefore, in the present study we start from a verdict given by a first-class European political leader: Angela Merkel, who, at a meeting with the youth of the CDU party acknowledged that multiculturalism can no longer be a solution either for the present, or for the future: "multi-culti is tod"!
