It remains unclear whether causal, rather than merely correlational, relationships in molecular networks can be inferred in complex biological settings. Here we describe the HPN-DREAM network inference challenge, which focused on learning causal influences in signaling networks. We used phosphoprotein data from cancer cell lines as well as in silico data from a nonlinear dynamical model. Using the phosphoprotein data, we scored more than 2,000 networks submitted by challenge participants. The networks spanned 32 biological contexts and were scored in terms of causal validity with respect to unseen interventional data. A number of approaches were effective, and incorporating known biology was generally advantageous. Additional sub-challenges considered time-course prediction and visualization. Our results suggest that learning causal relationships may be feasible in complex settings such as disease states. Furthermore, our scoring approach provides a practical way to empirically assess inferred molecular networks in a causal sense. The overall layout of the High Energy Beam Transport (HEBT) System of the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR)* did not change since its last presentation in 2008**. All necessitated adaptions as for example due to the introduction of the Modularized Start Version (MSV, module 0-3) of FAIR*** could be smoothly implemented. In the meanwhile the HEBT system is in its realisation phase with the procurement of its main components in progress. In the following adaptions of the system layout not yet covered in ** are summarized and an overview of the technical system design and procurement status are presented., Proceedings of the 6th Int. The upgrade of the existing heavy ion synchrotron SIS18 as booster for the FAIR synchrotron SIS100 has been partly completed. With the achieved technical status, a major increase of the accelerated number of heavy ions could be reached. This progress especially demonstrates the feasibilty of acceleration of medium charge state heavy ions with high intensity and and the succesfull control of dynamic vaccuum effects and correlated charge exchange loss. Two further upgrade measures, the installation of additional MA acceleration cavities and the exchange of the main dipole power converter are in progress. For the FAIR synchrotron SIS100 all major components with long production times have been ordered. With several pre-series components, outstanding technical developments have been completed and the readiness for series production reached. \(\underline {Problem:}\) Herz-/Kreislauferkrankungen sind die häufigsten Todesursachen in Deutschland, besonders bei älteren Menschen. Da diese Patienten aus Studien gezielt ausgeschlossen wurden, gibt es wenige Daten über eine optimale Therapie. \(\underline {Methode:}\) Analyse des Registers der ALKK der Jahre 2003 und 2006. Vergleich Patienten > 75 Jahren mit Patienten < 75 Jahren. Anonyme Datenerfassung mittels eines mehrseitigen standardisierten Fragebogens. \(\underline {Ergebnis:}\) Aufnahme von insgesamt 55418 Patienten ins ALKK-Register. 23,7% > 75 Jahre alt. Einflussgrößen für ein erhöhtes Mortalitätsrisiko und Komplikationen waren häufiger bei älteren Patienten zu finden. \(\underline {Diskussion:}\) Trotz einer etwas höheren Komplikationsrate profitieren gerade ältere Patienten von einer invasiven Therapie. Dabei gehört eine individuelle Risikostratifizierung zur Therapie des ACS. Weiterer Fortschritt lässt eine Reduktion der Komplikationen und Mortalität und eine Verbesserung des Outcomes erhoffen.

The engineering design, including the specifications for the accelerator components of the FAIR synchrotron SIS100 has been summarized in the Technical Design Report. The final stage of technical planning shall approach production readiness for the major technical systems in 2010. Significant progress has been achieved in the design of the cryomagnetic system with its main dipole and quadrupole modules, enabling the production of the first pre-series dipole magnet. Slight modifications of the lattice have been implemented to equalize most of the cryostat interconnections, leading to a simplified design and installation effort, and a reduced variety of components and spar parts. The new parallel tunnel allows optimal short interconnections between the supply units and power converters and the accelerator components.
