Researchers in several disciplines have argued that a social science interview should be seen as a product of situated interaction, rather than as the elicitation of the interviewee's pre-existing cognitive state. We propose an approach for analysis of this interaction based on studies of stance-taking and of responses to questions. Studies of stance-taking can help us understand the process of elicitation; in these studies, expressing one's evaluation of an object is seen as an inherently dialogical act that involves positioning oneself, defining a shared object, and aligning or not with previous stance-taking. Studies of responses to questions can help us apply these general analyses of stance-taking in dialogue to the specific genre of the research interview. In this article, we analyse existing transcripts from the Qualidata Archive and focus on the devices interviewees have for showing that they are taking up the question, and for aligning or disaligning with the stance projected in it, and the devices used by interviewers in follow-up questions to recalibrate the object of stance-taking. Since we focus on the lexical and syntactic form of elicitations, responses, and follow-ups, the approach can be applied, with some important caveats, to typical social science research transcripts, not just to specially retranscribed interviews. Various types of plutonic and volcanic rocks and their alteration products from Greece (serpentinite, magnesite and andesite), have been used for sustainable removal of Uranium (U) from the acidic drainage of Kirki mine, as well as for the pH increase of the polluted solutions. In this light, this study aims at the further understanding and improvement of the ecofriendly reuse of sterile, natural raw materials (including those remaining through industrial processing and engineering testing of aggregate rocks), for remediation of acid mine drainage. The selected rocks constitute such residues of sterile materials were used as filters in experimental continuous flow devices in the form of batch-type columns, in order to investigate acidic remediation properties with special focus on U removal. The initial pH of the wastewater was 2.90 and increased after seven (7) days of experimental application and more specifically from the fourth day onwards. Uranium removal became quantitatively significant once pH reached the value of 5.09. The volcanic rocks appeared to be more effective for U removal than the plutonic ones because of microtextural differences. However, optimum U removal was mainly achieved by serpentinite: while the raw materials rich in Mg strongly reacted and remediated the pH of the drainage water waste. Furthermore, the increase of pH values due to the presence of mineral raw materials, provided increased oxidation potential which deactivated the toxic load of metals, particularly U. Consequently, batch-type serpentinite reaction with the tailing fluid caused a drop in U concentration from an initial value of 254 ppb to the one of 8 ppb, which corresponds to 97% of removal. Andesite presented the second best reactant for experimental remediation, especially when it was mixed with magnetically separated mineral fractions. In this paper the results of an experimental study on the behavior of aggregate shape on the compressive concrete strength was described. The main scope of that work is to answer whether there is a low-cost, low-energy methodology for predicting the behavior of an aggregate within a concrete and therefore its ultimate strength. This was achieved by using a combination of petrographic methods with GIS and MatLab software in a variety of lithologies when simultaneously producing a new micropetrographic index (Mshape) for the first time. For this reason, variable rocks such as sandstones, ultramafic, mafic and volcanic have been collected from Greece which are used as aggregates. Their petrographic characteristics as well as their geometrical properties were studied and hence their influence on concrete production. In the present study, a new micro-petrographic index is proposed based on the present proposed methodology which is able to act as a predictor of the aggregates shape and therefore of their behavior and suitability. Background/aim: Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMLBCL) is an aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), whose prognosis has greatly improved since the incorporation of the anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody rituximab into current therapeutic regimens. Evidence, however, on the optimal time interval between consecutive chemoimmunotherapy (CIT) cycles is still scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy outcomes of the more commonly administered 3-weekly regimens to the biweekly ones in a PMLBCL patients' population, who were mostly treated with rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone every 21 days (R-CHOP-21) or R-CHOP-14., Patients and Methods: We retrospectively studied our cohort of consecutively treated PMLBCL patients, focusing on their treatment density, in order to determine possible differences in treatment outcomes., Results: CIT, in the form of both R-CHOP-21 as well as R-CHOP-14 (or similar regimens), is highly active in PMLBCL, with low rates of early treatment failure. In our cohort of patients, R-CHOP-14 did not result in a meaningful improvement of freedom from progression (FFP) or overall survival (OS)., Conclusion: Both R-CHOP-14 and R-CHOP-21 are probably equally effective in PMLBCL, yet further, prospective, randomized studies are warranted to clarify whether dose-dense regimens can be associated with better disease control and long-term results., (Copyright © 2022, International Institute of Anticancer Research (Dr. George J. In 2020, the prevalence of gaming disorder (GD) was comparable with the prevalence of obsessive-compulsive disorder, thus demonstrating the necessity of addressing Internet gaming disorder (IGD) and GD in general. GD has been introduced as a psychiatric disorder by International Classification of Diseases and paving the way for treatment and prevention interventions. In this review, we researched available treatment interventions in children and adolescents. Τhe initial search resulted in 972 studies and we ended up with 16 by excluding inappropriate studies according to six inclusion criteria. The studies confirmed that cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or CBT-based interventions are the most used, and in cases of comorbidity, such as depression or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, the appropriate pharmaceutical intervention also was an effective option. Other interventions combined CBT with family therapy or CBT-based therapies that took place in specialized camps. Family as a supportive expedient or even treatment expedient seemed to play a major role. It is remarkable that only little knowledge exists regarding treatment interventions for children aged 8-12 years old. Therefore, more studies need to be carried out for this age range especially, with comparable efficacy to this of other interventions.

Summary: Juxtaglomerular cell tumour (JGCT) is an unusually encountered clinical entity. A 33-year-old man with severe long-standing hypertension and hypokalaemia is described. The patient also suffered from polyuria, polydipsia, nocturia and severe headaches. On admission, laboratory investigation revealed hypokalaemia, kaliuresis, high aldosterone and renin levels, and the abdomen CT identified a mass of 4 cm at the right kidney. Kidney function was normal. Following nephrectomy, the histological investigation revealed the presence of a JGCT. Immunostaining was positive for CD34 as well as for smooth muscle actin and vimentin. Following surgery, a marked control of his hypertension with calcium channel blockers and normalization of the serum potassium, renin or aldosterone levels were reached. According to our findings, JGCT could be included in the differential diagnosis of secondary hypertension as it consists of a curable cause. The association of JGCT with hypertension and hypokalaemia focusing on the clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation and management is herein discussed and a brief review of the existing literature is provided., Learning Points: Juxtaglomerular cell tumours (JGCT), despite their rarity, should be included in the differential diagnosis of secondary hypertension as they consist of a curable cause of hypertension. JGCT could be presented with resistant hypertension along with hypokalaemia, kaliuresis and metabolic alkalosis. Early recognition and management can help to prevent cardiovascular complications. Imaging (enhanced CT scans) may be considered as the primary diagnostic tool for the detection of renal or JGCT. For the confirmation of the diagnosis, a histopathologic examination is needed.

The increased demands of our rapidly developing way of life lead to the broadening of the ceramic market among other effects. Due to the advanced ceramic properties of halloysite and its abundance, combined with its good synergistic effect with other materials, it has been investigated for multifarious possible applications to produce traditional and advanced ceramics as well as ceramic composites. In this review, a substantial number of studies by several investigators into halloysite-based ceramics were are summarized. The possibilities and limitations of different halloysite-based ceramic materials for future applications are also discussed in this manuscript and new fields of research are proposed. The summarization of published results indicates a constant scientific interest in halloysite-based traditional ceramics and new potential uses in the future. Additionally, investigations on different novel ceramic composites with low cost halloysite nanotubes (HNTS) have rapidly increased, covering different scientific and technological areas. On the other hand, research into advanced ceramics (SiAlONS) has been pursued due to its highly cost effective technology treatments on a large scale.

Pharmaceutical grade bentonite, containing a high amount of montmorillonite, enriched with zinc (Zn) or copper (Cu) (ZnBent and CuBent, respectively) was used as the main component for the creation of formulations for cutaneous use and tested for their antimicrobial capacity. Bentonite (Bent) with added phenoxyethanol (PH) as a preservative and unmodified bentonite were used as control groups. The mineralogical composition, structural state, and physical or chemical properties, before and after the modification of the samples, were characterized utilizing X-ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) techniques, and Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM, SEM-EDS) analyses. In addition, the profile of zinc and copper concentration from two types of surfaces ZnBent and CuBent, and into Phosphate-Buffered Saline (PBS) are discussed. Finally, the formulations in the form of basic pastes were challenged against bacteria, molds, and yeasts, and their performance was evaluated based on the European Pharmacopeia criteria. The Cu-modified bentonite performed excellently against bacteria and yeasts, while the Zn-modified bentonite only showed great results against yeasts. Therefore, Cu-modified bentonite formulations could offer antimicrobial protection without the use of preservatives.

Background: Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) are a group of clonal hematopoietic stem cell disorders with significant heterogeneity in their clinical presentation and the prognosis of the patients. Several attempts have been made to incorporate flow cytometry (FC) findings into the diagnostic and/or prognostic criteria of dysplasia, but bone marrow (BM) aspirate morphology evaluation remains the gold-standard for diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to provide a diagnostic tool for MDS that relies on BM immunophenotyping and objectifies the interpretation of FC analysis and to validate its capacity to discriminate MDS from other causes of cytopenias., Methods: To that purpose, a mathematical formula was developed which incorporates granulocytic maturation markers and the percentage of selected myeloid populations and translates them into a single parameter that quantifies the maturation and differentiation defects of BM granulocytes, named Dysmyelopoiesis Index (DMI). Bone marrow samples from 84 MDS patients and 47 non-MDS cytopenic patients were analyzed with FC and DMI was calculated for every patient., Results: DMI detected clonal dysplasia with 84.5% sensitivity and 93.6% specificity, identified as MDS 77.2% of low grade patients and revealed multilineage dysplasia for a number of RA and RARS cases. It discriminated prognostic subgroups of MDS patients (P< .005) and negatively correlated with IPSS (r= - .472, P= .000), WPSS (r= - .481, P= .000) and IPSS-R (r= -.395, P= .000)., Conclusions: DMI represents an accurate quantification of dysmyelopoiesis and an effective stand-alone diagnostic test for MDS, facilitating FC analysis and daily clinical practice.

Background: Acute diarrhea remains a major public health issue worldwide, with gastroenteritis agents associated with a high morbidity, especially in infants and young children. A 1-year study (2009-2010) of rotavirus (RV)-caused pediatric diarrhea was performed on hospitalized children admitted with symptoms of acute diarrhea to the University Hospital of Patras, Greece., Methods: Twenty-nine fecal samples were investigated for RVs, adenoviruses (AdVs), and enteroviruses (EVs) in an attempt to characterize these enteric viruses, which have been implicated in hospitalized diarrhea., Results: A 44.8% (13/29) incidence of viral infection was reported for the viral targets. Monoinfections accounted for 31% (9/29), while bi-infections accounted for 13.4% (4/29). Sequencing of positive samples allowed identification of RVs G4P[8] (2/29), G9P[8] (1/29), and interestingly of the rare type G12P[8] (2/29). AdV types 1, 2, and 6 were also identified in 4/29, 1/29, and 1/29 of the samples, respectively. Regarding the EVs, EV71 (2/29), coxsackievirus A4 (1/29), echovirus 11 (1/29), and EV96 (1/29) were typed., Conclusion: The results of the present study, and specifically the detection of rare RV G12 and EV71 strains, address the need for continuous epidemiological surveys to provide epidemiological pictures of pediatric viral infections circulating in the community., (Copyright © 2013 S. Background: Penetrating injuries of the abdomen and spinal canal that involve organic material of animal origin are extremely rare and derive from domestic and wild animal attacks or fish attacks., Case Presentation: In this case report we present the unique, as far as the literature is concerned, unprovoked woman's injury to the abdomen by a swordfish. There are only four cases of swordfish attacks on humans in the literature - one resulted to thoracic trauma, two to head trauma and one to knee trauma, one of which was fatal - none of which were unprovoked. Three victims were professional or amateur fishermen whereas in the last reported case the victim was a bather as in our case. Our case is the only case where organic debris of animal's origin remained in the spinal canal after penetrating trauma., Conclusions: Although much has been written about the management of penetrating abdominal and spinal cord trauma, controversy remains about the optimal management. Moreover, there is little experience in the management of patients with such spinal injuries, due to the fact that such cases are extremely rare. In this report we focus on the patient's treatment with regard to abdominal and spinal trauma and present a review of the literature.
