From 1996 to the end of 2009, a total of 114 cases of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation were performed in the Department of Hematology, Fukushima Medical University. We report here a general overview of our results. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) was performed in 37 cases of acute leukemia, 10 of myelodysplastic syndrome, 5 of aplastic anemia, and 5 others. The 5-year survival rate with allo-HSCT was 51.1%. Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) was performed in 34 cases of malignant lymphoma, 15 of multiple myeloma, and 8 others. The 5-year patient survival rate was 75.2% with malignant lymphoma and 46.7% with multiple myeloma. These results are comparable to those from a nationwide survey in Japan, confirming that our hospital has attained a creditable level as a transplantation center.

Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)), In order to examine the effect of centrifugal force on collisional disruption of small bodies, we performed two different series of impact experiments, i.e., disruption experiments of stress-applied targets and rotating targets. In both experimental series, the largest fragment mass normalized by initial target mass decreased with increase of internal stress generated by the applied force or the rotation. Leuconostoc species are vancomycin-resistant Gram-positive cocci. Infections due to Leuconostoc species have been reported in various immunocompromised patients, but little is known about such infection in patients with hematologic malignancies. We report a case of Leuconostoc infection in a 44-year-old woman with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The patient developed a high fever despite antimicrobial therapy with doripenem after induction chemotherapy. After an isolate from blood cultures was identified as L. pseudomesenteroides, we changed the antibiotics to piperacillin-tazobactam and gentamicin, after which the patient recovered from the infection. Physicians should be aware of Leuconostoc species as causative pathogen if they encounter Gram-positive cocci bacteremia resistant to standard antibiotics such as vancomycin and teicoplanin, especially in patients with hematologic malignancies.

We performed low-velocity collision experiments of gypsum spheres. The porosity of the gypsum spheres was 51 +/- 6 percent. Gypsum spheres broke differently from the ice spheres previously investigated (Higa et al. 1998). No excavation cratering was occurred. Instead, compaction near the impact point was observed. The porosity of the compacted parts reduced to 30-37 percent. The rapid decrease of restitution coefficient at the impact velocities over 1 m/s is explained by the energy partition into the work done through the compaction., 資料番号: AA0063723026

In our previous study, we performed impact disruption experiments on porous sintered glass bead targets using a light-gas gun and we derived the impact strength of the targets from the largest fragment mass. The values of impact strength in our low velocity impact experiments were found to be more than one order of magnitude lower than previous results of high velocity impact. This discrepancy was thought to be due to the initial pressure and the attenuation rate of the stress wave passing through porous bodies, which may be different during high velocity impacts and low velocity ones. In order to study the attenuation rate of the fragment velocity, we performed a new set of laboratory experiments on porous sintered glass bead targets. We prepared disc targets of porosity about 40 percent with three different thicknesses. Impact experiments were performed using a two-stage light-gas gun for high velocity impacts and a light-gas gun for low velocity impacts. Ejection velocities of antipodal fragments and those also from the rear surface of the targets were measured using high-speed camera images. We found that the attenuation rate of the fragment velocity in sintered glass bead targets can be fitted by a power law whose exponent is about -2 for the two different velocity regimes. We also analyzed previous high-velocity impact experiment results by using high-speed video images. The targets were sintered glass bead spheres with 10-16 percent porosity. The velocity field was different from the ones obtained previously for different porous materials such as sand, mortar, and porous alumina: the ejection velocity of the antipodal point of the sintered glass bead targets was lower than at the impact point but was the local maximum of the values found in the area of the antipode. The outcomes of previous high-velocity impact experiments using Yakuno basalt targets have been used to validate numerical codes of fragmentation developed in the context of planetary science. However, the distribution of incipient flaws in the targets, usually characterized by the Weibull parameters, has generally be implemented in the codes with values allowing to match the experimental outcomes. Here we follow the original method proposed by Weibull (1939) to measure these parameters for this Yakuno basalt. We obtain a value of the Weibull modulus m larger than the one obtained from simulation fits to the experimental data. The second Weibull parameter, called k, related to some characteristic strength of the material is also larger than those typically used in the simulations. However, the combination of the two parameters represented by ln(kV/m), where V is the volume of the target, has a value which is similar to the one allowing simulations to match the experiments. Future numerical simulations shall then use this new set of parameters to check that they still reproduce the experimental outcomes., 資料番号: AA0063505047

We measured the reflectance change of high-porosity dust agglomerate (so-called dust cake) at small phase angle. The wavelength ranged from 0.97 to 1.6 micrometer. The porosity of the dust cake was varied from about 84 to 70 percent. We searched for changes in the behavior of opposition surge with respect to porosity, which was predicted by a previous numerical simulation. However, the results of our measurements do not indicate any systematic dependence of the opposition surge on the porosity of the dust cake. This is probably why the porosity of the near surface zone does not change with imposed pressure (from about 10(exp 3) to 2 x 10(exp 4) Pa). On the other hand, the opposition surge is more enhanced at the wavelength where the reflectance is lower. This tendency is consistent with the opposition surge found for high albedo asteroids., 資料番号: AA0063505045
