256. Editing Identity: Literary Anthologies and the Construction of the Author in Meiji Japan

Abstract

"Editing Identity: Literary Anthologies and the Construction of the Author in Meiji Japan" problematizes widespread acceptance of anthologies of authors' "complete works" as both transparent and authoritative compendia of Japanese literature. In the Meiji period (1868-1912), they enjoyed a sudden boom in popularity and have played a crucial role as access points for the study of literature ever since. Through their construction of authors via their oeuvres, as well as their effacement of multiple versions and contexts through re-presenting texts in a homogeneous format, editors of anthologies have long influenced the boundaries of "Japanese literature." Author-centric anthologies, or "kojin zenshu," transform historical writers with coherent, stable identities, remaking them into essentialized "authors" who both define and are defined by their collected bodies of work. Yet anthologies' representations of authorship could not be more different from the context in which they emerged: Meiji authorial identities were complex, performances by entire literary coteries as well as single writers using a number of pseudonyms. "Editing Identity" explores the tension between these disparate expressions of authorship, and lays bare the construction of the "author" in its historical moment through a study grounded in the history of the book. "Editing Identity" questions approaches to literature that anachronistically read back later concepts of authorship, obscuring the reality of writing in Meiji Japan. Through examining case studies of authorial performances in the 1880s and 1890s, media-centric assessments of literature, and the location of authorship primarily in the context of a publication, it reorients the study of literature on writing, publishing, copyright, and reviewing practices. Further, it investigates the power of anthologies to construct and present a holistic authorial identity, and at the same time, on their function as memorials in the wake of writers' deaths as reflected in editors' own prefaces to the anthologies themselves. In a critical reassessment of the historical contexts and roles of author-centric anthologies, "Editing Identity" calls for a fundamental recalibration of our assumptions about literary production and the authority of anthologies and the limits they have imposed on understandings of the production and reception of literature. 257. Characteristics of College Students with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Symptoms Who Misuse Their Medications

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of the current investigation is to examine the characteristics of college students with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms who misuse their prescribed psychostimulant medications. Methods and Participants: Forty-three undergraduate students with a prescription for Ritalin or Adderall completed structured interviews and a battery of questionnaires. Results: Analyses revealed that compared to non-misusers, misusers were significantly more likely to report using a greater number of illicit substances, including nicotine, marijuana, cocaine, hallucinogens, and opiates, over the past year. Additionally, compared to non-misusers, misusers were significantly more likely to report greater negative expectancies effects, experience more hyperactivity symptoms, and score higher on a measure of sensation seeking. Conclusion: The findings have important implications for future prevention initiatives. In particular, knowledge regarding the extent of misuse in populations with and without prescriptions and variables associated with misuse is essential to the development of effective prevention programs. Abstract

TULIP (Target Ion Source for Short‐Lived Isotope Production) is an original Isotope Separator On Line project dedicated to the production of short lived neutron deficient ions. It was tested for the first time in March 2022 at GANIL (Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds ) / SPIRAL1 (Système de Production d’Ions Radioactifs Accélérés en Ligne, phase 1) with the production of Rb isotopes using a primary beam of 22Ne at an energy of 4.5 MeV/A. 76Rb and 78Rb isotope rates of ~4.E3 and ~6.E4 pps were measured for a primary beam intensity of 6.E12 pps and may be improved by a factor between 5 to10. A remarkably short atom-to-ion transformation (AIT) time close to 200 µs was achieved. This result demonstrates how beneficial the design of the TULIP target ion source system is in term of response time and allows us to confidently look forward 74Rb+ production, which is one of the goal of the TULIP project.The results obtained on Rb production suggests testing the principle for the production of more sticky elements. Ions from metallic isotopes around 100Sn will be the next objective., TULIP (Target Ion Source for Short‐Lived Isotope Production) est un projet original de séparateur d'isotopes en ligne dédié à la production d'ions de faible durée de vie et déficients en neutrons. Il a été testé pour le première fois en mars 2022 à GANIL (Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds ) / SPIRAL1 (Système de Production d’Ions Radioactifs Accélérés en Ligne, phase 1) pour la production d'isotopes de Rb en utilisant un faisceau primaire d'ions 22Ne à une énergie de 4.5 MeV/A. Des taux d'isotopes de 76Rb et de 78Rb de ~4.E3 et de ~6.E4 pps ont été mesurés pour une intensité de faisceau primaire de 6.E12 pps, et pourraient être améliorés d'un facteur 5 à 10.Un temps de transformation remarquablement court proche de 200 µs a été obtenu. Ces résultats démontrent combien la conception du système cible source TULIP peut être bénéfique en termes de temps de réponse et nous permet sereinement d'envisager la production d'ions 74Rb+, qui est un des objectifs du projet TULIP.Les résultats obtenus pour la production de Rb suggèrent de tester le principe pour la production d'éléments plus collants. La production d'ions à partir d'isotopes métalliques autour de l'étain 100 sera le prochain objectif.

Abstract

Face aux crises que traverse notre système hospitalier, les chefs de service sont contraints en permanence de s’adapter et de trouver des solutions pour continuer de prendre en charge les patients dans un contexte de pénurie de soignants. Face à ces enjeux, nous avons eu le désir d’initier la création d’une communauté de chefs de service capable de s’entraider, de partager ses expériences, de s’appuyer sur l’intelligence collective et, à terme, de contribuer à reconstruire l’hôpital à partir du « terrain ». Pour cela, nous avons organisé un séminaire de deux jours qui a rassemblé quatorze chefs de service d’hématologie partageant le même désir de questionner leurs organisations et de les faire évoluer dans une démarche collaborative. Ce séminaire, animé par un intervenant extérieur, a comporté de nombreux temps d’échange à la fois formels et informels, extrêmement riches. À l’issue de ce séminaire, les participants ont exprimé leur désir d’en faire profiter d’autres chefs de service en organisant des « séminaires collaboratifs des chefs de service ». Ces rencontres auront pour objectif de créer une véritable communauté de chefs de service capable de s’entraider pour améliorer nos organisations et faire émerger des idées nouvelles pour participer à la reconstruction de notre système de santé « par le bas ». Cette démarche est en parfaite adéquation avec la volonté actuelle des services publics de redonner une place plus importante aux services hospitaliers. Nous espérons que notre initiative inspirera également des chefs de service d’autres spécialités.

280. Ultra-High-Resolution Photon-Counting CT Imaging of the Chest

Abstract

After a decade of preclinical testing, photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT) has now entered daily routine, enabling radiologists to start investigating thoracic disorders in unprecedented conditions. The improved spatial resolution of the ultra-high-resolution (UHR) scanning mode is a major step for the analysis of bronchopulmonary disorders, making abnormalities at the level of small anatomical structures such as secondary pulmonary lobules accessible to radiologists. Distal divisions of pulmonary and systemic vessels also benefit from UHR protocols as alterations of lung microcirculation were previously excluded from confident analysis with energy-integrating detector CT. Although noncontrast chest CT examinations were the initial target of UHR protocols, the clinical value of this mode is also applicable to chest CT angiographic examinations with improved morphological evaluation and higher-quality lung perfusion imaging. The clinical benefits of UHR have been evaluated in initial studies, allowing radiologists to foresee the field of future applications, all combining high diagnostic value and radiation dose reduction. The purpose of this article is to highlight the technological information relevant to daily practice and to review the current clinical applications in the field of chest imaging.

Abstract

GANIL Facilities deliver ion beams from Proton to Uranium up to 95MeV/A. The Cyclotron facility combined with the SPIRAL1 facility provides Stable Ion Beams (SIB) since 1983 and Radioactive Ion Beams (RIB) since 2001 for Physics experiments. R&D of new stable and radioactive beams are continuously under progress matching physicist requirements. During the last ten years, the SPIRAL1 facility was upgraded to extend its capabilities to deliver RIBs of condensable elements. After a new one delivered in 2019, off-line R&D’s have been done on the Target Ions Source System and also on the Charge Breeder to improve efficiencies and achieve an operational and reliable facility. In parallel, the commissioning of the LINAC-SPIRAL2 facility started in 2019 with a proton beam production. In 2020, a 16 kW proton beam was delivered for the first time on the Neutron For Science physics area, and a 4 mA beam of 4He2+ was produced with the PhoenixV3 ECR ion source to mimic a deuteron beam. In this article, an overview of GANIL ion sources, beam properties and future developments are described.
