Abstract

Many hospitals perform unecessary work processes that do not improve customer products or services. Re-entering, retesting, redoing and inspecting are examples of work processes which need to be eliminated. Process improvement techniques can eliminate useless processes while improving customer satisfaction, reducing waste and cycle time, developing better employee relations and establishing better performance standards. Research by the International Quality Study substantiates these results. Thus, hospitals will benefit greatly from the application of process improvement.
