To overcome the deficiency in fossil fuels and their environmental effects, the popularity of the integration of renewable energy sources and the adoption of electric vehicles is growing day by day. But high pricing and a lack of available charging stations are impeding EV adoption. Also, the weather-dependent RES power generation creates demand and generation disparity in a microgrid system. Hence, energy storage technology integration is crucial to increase the possibility of flexible energy demand with the charging of EVs and ensure that extra generated power can be stored for later use. In this proposed EV charging architecture, high-power density-based supercapacitor units (500 − 5000 W / L) for handling system transients and high-energy density-based battery units (50 − 80 W h / L) for handling average power are combined for a hybrid energy storage system. In this paper, a power management technique is proposed for the solar-powered grid-integrated charging station with hybrid energy storage systems for charging electric vehicles along both AC and DC loads. For the charging of electric vehicle batteries, the stepwise constant current control charging method is proposed in which the charging current will decrease with an increase in the state of charge of vehicle batteries. Realization of active power filter with Model Based Design approach is presented in this paper. The approach adopts different modeling platforms as well as selection of proper hardware for step wise verification and testing. The active power filter model is developed using the Matlab/Simulink platform for single phase. The efficiency of the control algorithms such as synchronous detection method and indirect current control for active power filter is analyzed. Efficient control algorithm is developed by Xilinx system generator which is incorporated into Simulink as Xilinx tool box. Xilinx system generator provides a virtual platform for easy and effective design of the required system models in FPGA (field programmable gate array) design environments. Optimized automatic VHDL code is generated for the control algorithm which is simulated using ISE 13.2 for the generation of switching signals for the control of IGBTs of the active power filter. Suitable compensation signal is generated from the active power filter for the better elimination harmonics to improve the power quality. This paper presents the application of well known recursive least square (RLS) harmonic estimation technique and its elimination with improved current control technique based shunt active power filter (SAPF) in a distorted power network. The estimation of amplitude and phase angle of fundamental and harmonics is performed using RLS algorithm, known for their simplicity of computation, accuracy and good convergence properties. The estimates are updated recursively as samples of the harmonic signals are received. In order to eliminate harmonics produced by the nonlinear load connected in the distribution network, a three-phase SAPF with modified current control technique is employed. In this paper, based on the analysis and modeling of SAPF with closed-loop control, a feed forward compensation path of load current and a new pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme is proposed to improve the dynamic performance of the SAPF. In this case the amplitude and phase angle of the converter AC voltage should be adjusted using PWM, thus producing either leading or lagging reactive power. Harmonic contented in the signal is estimated at the point of common coupling (PCC) with and without SAPF. The comparative results of amplitude and phase angle of fundamental and selected harmonics are determined considering installation of SAPF in the distribution network. The system is studied using MATLAB environment to justify the effectiveness of proposed control technique in comparison to the other techniques discussed in the recent literature. The primary goal of power management in a hybrid microgrid is to maintain the active power balance among renewable energy sources, energy storage system, and loads. In a HMG system, an ESS is required to reduce power fluctuations caused by the intermittent behavior of RESs. A bi-directional dc-dc converter has been used to connect a battery to the dc bus. This paper proposes an improved power management scheme where a novel controller named as hybrid fuzzy integrated fractional order cascaded proportional derivative filter (1+proportional integral) is designed and implemented in a voltage-controlled loop of the BDC. This controller is introduced in this work to achieve optimum power flow management improves voltage stabilization, and enhances the system dynamic response. A hybrid modified sine cosine algorithm-pattern search algorithm is implemented here to tune the parameters of the proposed controller. The extensive time-domain analysis and robustness studies of the proposed controller have been performed and compared with the other conventional control methods Variable solar irradiance, solar temperature, wind speed, and load are used to test the effectiveness of proposed power management strategy.
