A FDS-LC long counter was developed to monitor the neutron fluence at the HINEG facility. The response function and the effective centre of long counter were calculated by using SuperMC code. The calibration of this long counter was performed in Research Facility, China institute of atomic energy. The results of experimental and simulative characterization of the FDS-LC long counter are persented in this paper. The comparison of the measured results with the calculated results shown a good agreement within 5%.

A high intensity D-T fusion neutron generator (HINEG) is keenly needed for the research and development (R&D) of nuclear technology and safety of the advanced nuclear energy system, especially for the radiation protection and shielding. The R&D of HINEG includes two phases: HINEG-I and HINEG-II. HINEG-I is designed to have both the steady beam and pulsed beam. The neutron yield of the steady beam is up to 1012 n/s. The width of pulse neutron beam is less than 1.5 ns. HINEG-I is used for the basic neutronics study, such as measurement of nuclear data, validation of neutronics methods and software, validation of radiation protection and so on. HINEG-II aims to generate a high neutron yield of 1013 n/s neutrons by adopting high speed rotating tritium target system integrated with jet/spray array enhanced cooling techniques, and can further upgrade to obtain neutron yield of 1014~1015n/s by using of accelerators-array in a later stage. HINEG-II can be used for fundamentals research of nuclear technology including mechanism of materials radiation damage and neutronics performance of components, radiation shielding as well as other nuclear technology applications.

The relationship between the molecular structure and the electronic transport properties of molecular junctions based on thiol-terminated oligoethers, which are obtained by replacing every third methylene unit in the corresponding alkanethiols with an oxygen atom, is investigated by employing the non-equilibrium Green’s function formalism combined with density functional theory. Our calculations show that the low-bias conductance depends strongly on the conformation of the oligoethers in the junction. Specifically, in the cases of trans-extended conformation, the oxygen-dominated transmission peaks are very sharp and well below the Fermi energy, EF, thus hardly affect the transmission around EF; the Au–S interface hybrid states couple with σ-bonds in the molecular backbone forming the conduction channel at EF, resulting in a conductance decay against the molecular length close to that for alkanethiols. By contrast, for junctions with oligoethers in helical conformations, some π-type oxygen orbitals coupling with the Au–S interface hybrid states contribute to the transmission around EF. The molecule-electrode electronic coupling is also enhanced at the non-thiol side due to the specific spatial orientation introduced by the twist of the molecular backbone. This leads to a much smaller conductance decay constant. Our findings highlight the important role of the molecular conformation of oligoethers in their electronic transport properties and are also helpful for the design of molecular wires with heteroatom-substituted alkanethiols. Inflammatory reaction and neuronal apoptosis are the major pathophysiological mechanisms involved in cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury (CI/RI). It has been reported that Zhongfeng Capsules (ZFCs), which contain Panax notoginseng, Hirudo, Red ginseng, Eupolyphaga sinensis, Pangolin scales, Rhubarb, and Radix Salvia miltiorrhizae, have a definite therapeutic effect on CI/RI. However, the specific molecular mechanisms of ZFCs are unclear. In this study, the effects of ZFCs on middle cerebral artery occlusion were investigated in rats. Our results showed that neurological impairment and neuronal apoptosis were alleviated in ZFC-treated rats. Additionally, infarct volume and cerebral edema decreased and there was an improvement in histopathological features. Furthermore, the expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α were downregulated in ZFC-treated rats. TLR 4, NF-κB, Bax, and Caspase-3 expression also tended to decrease, whereas the expression of Bcl-2, p-PI3K, p-Akt, and I-κBα increased. The results indicate that the ZFCs effectively protected the rats against CI/RI possibly via the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway. Additionally, the formulation regulated the transcriptional activity of NF-κB, secretion of downstream inflammatory factors, and the expression of Bcl-2-Bax proteins in the PI3K/Akt pathway. Our findings suggest that ZFCs suppress neuronal apoptosis and inflammatory reaction via the PI3K/Akt and TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathways, respectively. Moreover, activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway may result in the inhibition of proinflammatory cytokine secretion, which may be another mechanism by which ZFCs alleviate CI/RI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using CaCO3, Sc2O3, and CeO2 as raw materials, we prepared the CaSc2O4:Ce3+ green phosphors for white light LEDs via a high-temperature solid-phase method in a reducing atmosphere. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), fluorescence spectroscopy and other means were used to characterize the phase structure, apparent morphology, and photoluminescence properties of the product. CaSc2O4 was synthesized under a reducing atmosphere (95% N2+5% H2) at 1 400 °C for 4 hours. Upon excitation with a blue light (450 nm wavelength), CaSc2O4:Ce3+ displays a broadband green emission peak at 525 nm. The color coordinates of CaSc2O4:7% Ce3+ emission peak are (0.3712, 0.5940), and the product morphology is 1 μm granular. Hence, it acts as a green phosphor suitable for white LEDs that can be excited by blue light. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
