BACKGROUND: In experimental canine septic shock, depressed circulating granulocyte counts were associated with a poor outcome and increasing counts with prophylactic granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) improved outcome. Therapeutic G-CSF, in contrast, did not improve circulating counts or outcome, and therefore investigation was undertaken to determine whether transfusing granulocytes therapeutically would improve outcome. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Twenty-eight purpose-bred beagles underwent an intrabronchial Staphylococcus aureus challenge and 4 hours later were randomly assigned to granulocyte (40-100 × 109 cells) or plasma transfusion. RESULTS: Granulocyte transfusion significantly expanded the low circulating counts for hours compared to septic controls but was not associated with significant mortality benefit (1/14, 7% vs. 2/14, 14%, respectively; p = 0.29). Septic animals with higher granulocyte count at 4 hours (median [interquartile range] of 3.81 3.39-5.05] vs. 1.77 [1.25-2.50]) had significantly increased survival independent of whether they were transfused with granulocytes. In a subgroup analysis, animals with higher circulating granulocyte counts receiving donor granulocytes had worsened lung injury compared to septic controls. Conversely, donor granulocytes decreased lung injury in septic animals with lower counts. CONCLUSION: During bacterial pneumonia, circulating counts predict the outcome of transfusing granulocytes. With low but normal counts, transfusing granulocytes does not improve survival and injures the lung, whereas for animals with very low counts, but not absolute neutropenia, granulocyte transfusion improves lung function.

Fission product yields are fundamental nuclear data for nuclear energy applications and nuclear physics research. In this work, HPGe γ spectrometric technique is applied to absolutely measure the mass distributions from 0.57, 1.0 MeV and 1.5 MeV neutron induced fission of 235U, and more than 30 mass chain yields are obtained for each energy. The fission rate of uranium sample is monitored by a double fission chamber and its neutron spectrum is simulated via MCNP program. Comparing with the existing data of other lab, our results are in good agreement within the experimental uncertainties. The output data obtained in this work clarifies the difference of up to 16% in the original data and improves the data accuracy from 5%-7% of the original international data to 3%-5%.

Angiopoietin-1 (ANG1) is a pro-angiogenic regulator that contributes to the progression of solid tumors by stimulating the proliferation, migration and tube formation of vascular endothelial cells, as well as the renewal and stability of blood vessels. However, the functions and mechanisms of ANG1 in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) are unclear. The clinical sample database shows that a higher level of ANG1 in TNBC is associated with poor prognosis compared to non-TNBC. In addition, knockdown of ANG1 inhibits TNBC cell proliferation and induces cell cycle G1 phase arrest and apoptosis. Overexpression of ANG1 promotes tumor growth in nude mice. Mechanistically, ANG1 promotes TNBC by upregulating carboxypeptidase A4 (CPA4) expression. Overall, the ANG1-CPA4 axis can be a therapeutic target for TNBC.

With the growing penetration of renewable generation, the inertia and frequency support ability of the renewable-dominated power system are continuously reduced, which leads to frequency collapse when the system is disturbed. Therefore, it is of great significance to promptly and accurately evaluate the power shortage after a major disturbance to fill the power shortage quickly. This paper proposes an online estimation approach of power shortage in power system based on deep convolution and long-short term memory composite neural network driven by local frequency measurement data. First, since using the synchronous measurements to obtain the frequency of center of inertia (COI) cannot adapt to the rapidity of online estimation, this paper employs the local frequency measurements to estimate the COI frequency, avoiding the delay effect caused by the complex communication. Then, it designs a deep composite neural network to mine the correlation information between massive frequency data and power shortage. Finally, it tests the simulations on a 39-bus system to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach is effective and fast.

Background Psychological capital (PsyCap) has a significant impact on individual attitude, behavior, and performance. Currently, studies on the level and associated factors of PsyCap among general practitioners (GPs) are limited. Objective To investigate the level of PsyCap and its associated factors among community GPs in China, providing evidence for human resource management in primary health care. Methods To conduct the questionnaire survey, 40 community health service institutions from their list of community health service institutions were randomly chosen, 4 632 GPs (40% of whom were on duty) were randomly selected from each community health service institution's duty roster on the day of the survey, and all five provinces (autonomous, municipalities) regions in the east, central, and west China were chosen by use of multi-stage stratified random sampling between March and May 2021. The questionnaire consisted of 3 sections: general information, workplace violence, and PsyCap, and statistical analysis was performed using general descriptive analysis, rank sum test, and generalized linear regression. Results A total of 4 376 community GPs were finally included as eligible respondents. The total median score and average total score of PsyCap were 104 (20) and 4.33 (0.83), higher than the theoretical median (3.50 points). Recent research suggests that dual enrollment programs are a useful recruiting tool for colleges and universities as many high school students remain at their dual enrollment institution after high school graduation. Students staying enrolled at their dual enrollment institution for college may be beneficial for institutions, but is it beneficial for participating dual enrollment students? We find that students who participate in dual enrollment in high school are more likely to experience college undermatch than similar students who do not participate in any postsecondary acceleration opportunities. Students who participate in a dual enrollment program at a 2-year institution and stay at the institution after high school graduation are up to 29% points more likely to undermatch than the average dual enrollment student enrolling in a different postsecondary institution after high school graduation. The difference is reduced to 9% points for dual enrollment students who stay at a four-year institution. Most significantly, our research shows that the decision to stay at a 2-year dual enrollment institution has negative consequences for bachelor's degree attainment. Students who stay at a 2-year dual enrollment institution where they are undermatched have about a 33% point lower probability of completing a bachelor's degree when compared to similar 2-year dual enrollment students who move to a 4-year institution where they are not undermatched after high school graduation.

Purpose: This paper aims to make a comparative study on the latest version of green campus evaluation standard between China and America: Green Campus Evaluation Standard (GB/T51356-2019) and the sustainability tracking, assessment and rating system (STARS 2.2). The differences of evaluation methods and contents are analyzed and their respective characteristics and advantages are sorted out, so as to promote the development of sustainable campus evaluation standards. Design/methodology/approach: The research mainly adopts the method of comparative study, which is carried out from three dimensions, namely, the related policies development of campus construction and world university sustainable rankings; the content of evaluation standards (including evaluation methods and evaluation categories and scores); the characteristics and current application of standards. Findings: There are great differences between the evaluation standards of China and America in organization and participation mode, evaluation method and content. Public engagement, energy and campus engagement are the hot spots. Buildings, energy, food and dining and investment and finance will become the focus of sustainable campus in the future. Specific optimization strategies of key points, evaluation method and content and organization and participation mode of Chinese standard are put forward. Practical implications: This paper clarifies the advantages and disadvantages of the current global sustainable campus, and provides the basis for the next stage of construction policy. At the same time, it is helpful for all countries, especially China, to formulate construction guidelines that not only meet their own actual needs but also conform to the trend of global sustainable campus development. Social implications: The connotation of sustainable campus is enriched, and the evaluation standards of sustainable campus are improved. The development of sustainable campus is promoted, so as to realize the sustainable development goals. Originality/value: This research expands the scope of the study to the whole campus, rather than just one aspect of campus buildings. It compares the evaluation standard of green campus in China with STARS in the USA, and no longer compares leadership in energy and environmental design for schools. It discusses the campus building's energy conservation while paying attention to the campus green consciousness, green management and green planning. Based on the relevant data currently used by STARS in the global evaluation, this paper analyzes the hot spots and shortcomings of the current global sustainable campus construction and puts forward some optimization suggestions for China's green campus evaluation system.

Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. is a precious species of frigid zone plant belonging to the Taxaceae family, which possesses anticancer, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, and antibacterial pharmacological properties. While taxane extracted from Taxus chinensis has been reported to elicit antioxidant activities, whether Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. has skin-protective actions against injuries remained unknown. This study aims to explore the pharmacological effects of three Taxus extracts on skin melanin deposition, oxidation, inflammation, and allergy so as to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of various diseases related to skin damage.
