Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), as a form of multicarrier modulation, has been popularly studied for underwater acoustic communication. Impulse noise and large scale single frequency noise often exist in the received signal in the ocean experiments, and the noise interference will degrade the performance of the communication system. This paper focuses on the OFDM performance in the presence of both impulse noise and large scale single frequency noise. One novel method is proposed to estimate impulse noise and large scale single frequency noise separately. Furthermore, based on the proposed approaches, joint impulse noise and large scale single frequency noise is investigated in OFDM receivers. Simulated results and experimental results are both shown that the two proposed schemes are more practical in underwater acoustic communication.
