Senator Beveridge satirically describes to President Roosevelt the scene after Senator Joseph Benson Foraker was unusually "nervy" in response to Roosevelt's address, most likely at the Gridiron Club Dinner at the New Willard Hotel. Beveridge points to the irony in journalist David Graham Phillips's and Senator William Lorimer's attack on his own comments about Foraker.

Oscar S. Straus is surprised that President Roosevelt read his interview with James B. Morrow of the Cleveland Plain Dealer . Straus's purpose in doing the interview was to "set right some of the exaggerated ideas some people have about the Jews." Straus's travels in France, Great Britain, and Germany have convinced him that Roosevelt's efforts in the United States are garnering the United States respect throughout Europe. Straus says that the American people will insist on Roosevelt seeking a third term.

Secretary of the Interior Hitchcock writes President Roosevelt with updates on the New Hampshire gubernatorial campaign. Winston Churchill was seen as a serious contender to win the nomination but Charles Miller Floyd, who was the favorite of the Boston and Maine Railroad, ended up winning over Charles Henry Greenleaf, making considerable progress given his lack of experience.

Owen Wister uses a bad-tasting meal analogy to tell President Roosevelt he and his friends see the poor treatment the Republican Party is giving him and how little of that treatment Roosevelt is accepting. Wister also asks how Roosevelt is doing.

Thomas J. Akins sends William Loeb two clippings that indicate Joseph E. Black will be seeking appointment as Collector of Internal Revenue for the Western District of Missouri. Although Akins has taken little interest in appointments in the past because Senator William Warner has shown "great wisdom," Akins wishes in this instance to express his opposition to Black's appointment because Black opposed President Roosevelt's nomination at the 1902 State Convention. Black was said to have distributed the Hanna badges and buttons and to have "talked very ugly about the President," and Black's nomination would revive feuds in Missouri. Akins wants to advise Roosevelt that Black's appointment would be a "great mistake."

New York secretary of state John F. O'Brien fears that his interest in Daniel W. Moran has caused the hostility from Justin B. H. Mongin, and explains the circumstances surrounding Mongin's resignation as First Deputy Secretary of State for New York.

James T. Rogers requests an interview with President Roosevelt to discuss the "Speakership contest" in New York. Rogers believes Roosevelt intends to take a stand in the matter based on recent newspaper reports, likely endorsing assemblyman Cox, and that before Roosevelt reaches a decision he allow Rogers a chance to explain his position.

Senator Lodge asks President Roosevelt why he is unhappy with Lodge, as reported in the New York Herald . He also introduces the name of Roosevelt's "old friend Dargan" as a possible candidate for a judgeship in South Carolina, if Roosevelt is willing to name a Democrat.

Senator Platt is "surprised and somewhat disturbed" by President Roosevelt's letter of November 23, 1904, concerning the chairmanship of the Erie County Republican Committee. Platt feels that Roosevelt is deserting him "right at the crisis of affairs here when I have the situation well in hand." Platt favors William Olcott while Roosevelt suggests a "high class man" along the likes of Mr. Parsons or Mr. Davis.

Armand Romain reminds President Roosevelt that last August, a committee of Republicans from Louisiana entered a formal protest against the "policy of inaction and of ostracism" adopted by the "Lilly White" leaders of the Louisiana Republican Party. Romain recounts the injustice and partisanship with which they lead the party, which has led to dismal election results. Some fear that the party is "in a state of complete demoralization and on the eve of annihilation," and Romain and others hope to get some "word of encouragement and hope" from Roosevelt, as well as assistance if the party collapses. Still, Romain is hopeful, as there is a "strong change of sentiment" in Louisiana and in the South generally, in political matters, and people are beginning to believe the Democratic Party has "outlived its usefulness." Romain reminds Roosevelt of his offer to consult both factions within the party when the time came, and Romain believes that the time is now. An announcement of Roosevelt's proposed trip to the area "created an honest and hearty enthusiasm" among Republicans there.

In the most recent Commoner , William Jennings Bryan provides the history of the Democratic reorganization movement and portrays Grover Cleveland as the primary disruption in the party.

Speaker of the House Reed believes it was his duty to "go in again" and that his refusal to stand for reelection would make things unsatisfactory in his state given present conditions. Reed expresses distaste for Chairman of the Republican National Committee Marcus Hanna's "coarse ways," but it will not deter Reed from doing what "ought to be done."

Governor Magoon apologizes to Secretary of War Wright for the misunderstandings regarding his ideas on the number of forces to maintain in Cuba in addition to him becoming involved in reconciling the factions in the Cuban political parties. He requests Wright show a copy of the letter to President Roosevelt.
