Due to the national requirements for keeping the surveying and mapping geographic information confidential, the sharing of long-distance pipeline coordinate data is always a difficulty for the application of informatization of the pipeline operators. Meanwhile, due to the release of the Provisions on the scope of state secrets in petroleum and petrochemical industry in 2013, great controversies were generated on the confidentiality classification of pipeline coordinate data. Hence, through the analysis on the recent cases for information security and the in-depth interpretation of the relevant national and industrial policies, the problem on confidentiality classification of pipeline coordinate data was clarified. In view of the pain points and business requirements in the current application of long-distance pipeline coordinate data, a technical scheme based on GCJ02 coordinate system was developed with reference to the relevant policies and technologies of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China, and the management countermeasures were proposed in terms of the sense of security and confidentiality, map data and service, and business application, so as to meet the national regulatory requirements and the urgent needs of pipeline operators to deepen the application.(2 Figures, 1 Table, 27 References)

Trial difficulty prediction (TDP) is the task of automatically predicting the difficulty of a trial given the case text, which has a broad application prospect in judicial intelligent system. In practice, the tools of TDP rely heavily on the experience of experts, which leads different conclusions in predicting the difficulty of the trial. However, there are few related research work. To address these issues, this paper regards it as a text classification problem in natural language processing. Through the analysis, it is found that, traditional text classification methods don??t consider the structural uniqueness and logical dependence among trial elements in complaint, which makes it difficult to predict the difficulty of a trial accurately. In order to solve the mentioned challenges, this paper carefully studies indictments and considers the complex and simple trial elements for judging cases, presents an end-to-end model, MAT-TAN (mask-attention and topological association network). Specifically, this paper proposes a novel mask-attention network (MAT), to carry out fine-grained analysis of a case description text in indictments. The masking mechanism plays a role of the intelligent gatekeeper, focusing on the specific position of the trial elements in indictments. Together with the self-attention mechanism, it extracts the comprehensive and accurate characteristics of each trial element. This paper proposes a novel topological association network (TAN), which models the judicial logic dependency relationship between different elements, and effectively integrates the characteristics of different elements. Finally, the TDP is realized. The experimental results conducted on real-world datasets demonstrate that the MAT-TAN can improve the macro averaged F1 up to 0.036 compared with baselines, showing that it has a better performance in TDP.

Abstract Existing research on the competitive failure relationship, failure mechanism, and influencing factors of bolt loosening and fatigue under different preloads is insufficient. This study analyzes the competitive failure relationship between bolt loosening and fatigue under composite excitation through competitive failure tests of bolt loosening and fatigue under different preloads. The results indicated that the failure mode of the bolt is only related to the load ratio (R) and is unrelated to the initial preload and excitation amplitude, which only determine the failure life of the bolt. The small axial loads of composite excitation can restrain bolt failure, and the significant degree of this restraining effect is different for different preloads. Subsequently, a fracture analysis of the bolt was performed to verify the competitive failure relationship of the bolt from a microscopic perspective, and the competitive failure mechanism of the bolt was determined. Based on the findings, we propose a calculation equation for the optimal preload of 8.8 grade high-strength bolts that can serve as a reference for engineering applications.

Abstract Background Reaching optimal vaccination rates is an essential public health strategy to control the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed to simulate the optimal vaccination strategy to control the disease by developing an age-specific model based on the current transmission patterns of COVID-19 in Wuhan City, China. Methods We collected two indicators of COVID-19, including illness onset data and age of confirmed case in Wuhan City, from December 2, 2019, to March 16, 2020. The reported cases were divided into four age groups: group 1, ≤ 14 years old; group 2, 15 to 44 years old; group 3, 44 to 64 years old; and group 4, ≥ 65 years old. An age-specific susceptible-exposed-symptomatic-asymptomatic-recovered/removed model was developed to estimate the transmissibility and simulate the optimal vaccination strategy. The effective reproduction number (R eff) was used to estimate the transmission interaction in different age groups. Results A total of 47 722 new cases were reported in Wuhan City from December 2, 2019, to March 16, 2020. Before the travel ban of Wuhan City, the highest transmissibility was observed among age group 2 (R eff = 4.28), followed by group 2 to 3 (R eff = 2.61), and group 2 to 4 (R eff = 1.69). China should vaccinate at least 85% of the total population to interrupt transmission. The priority for controlling transmission should be to vaccinate 5% to 8% of individuals in age group 2 per day (ultimately vaccinated 90% of age group 2), followed by 10% of age group 3 per day (ultimately vaccinated 90% age group 3). However, the optimal vaccination strategy for reducing the disease severity identified individuals ≥ 65 years old as a priority group, followed by those 45–64 years old. Conclusions Approximately 85% of the total population (nearly 1.2 billion people) should be vaccinated to build an immune barrier in China to safely consider removing border restrictions. Based on these results, we concluded that 90% of adults aged 15–64 years should first be vaccinated to prevent transmission in China. Graphical Abstract

Abstract This paper investigates the reliable computation offloading in non‐orthogonal multiple access enabled mobile edge computing networks, where the short‐packet technique is adopted to meet the stringent latency requirements of delay‐sensitive computing services. To characterize the reliability of computation offloading with finite blocklength coding, a novel analytical framework is developed to approximate the average overall block error probability (AOBEP) by using a double‐case linearization. With the derived approximate expression for AOBEP, the joint optimization of computation workload and transmit power is further investigated, in order to minimize the AOBEP under the computation/communication delay constraints. To tackle the non‐convexity of the formulated problem, the formulated problem is first decomposed into the computation workload problem and the transmit power allocation problem. For the computing workload problem, a closed‐form solution is derived. Then, by applying the derived workload allocation, the power allocation is transformed into the convex form through some approximations and solved by the successive convex approximation technique. Finally, simulation results are provided to demonstrate the reliability enhancement of computation offloading and reveal the relationship between the workload/power allocation and the communication/computation delay.

Background: Plantar fasciitis, a common musculoskeletal disorder, is characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes. The plantar fascia plays a crucial role in supporting the arch of the foot and absorbing shock during movement. Factors such as excessive physical activity, improper footwear, and biomechanical abnormalities are recognized contributors to the development of plantar fasciitis. However, the prevalence and underlying causes may vary across different demographic groups, necessitating targeted investigations. Objective: This study aims to investigate the prevalence, causes and treatment of plantar fasciitis in young female students (18–30) of a medical college in Pakistan and explore potential associations with high-heel footwear. Methodology: In this study, a cross-sectional survey was carried out, engaging 100 young females from a medical college. Employing a structured questionnaire, we assessed a spectrum of parameters, including heel pain symptoms, footwear habits, and available treatment options. The diagnostic precision of the Windlass test, specific to plantar fasciitis, was incorporated. Rigorous data analysis, utilizing SPSS, centered on discerning associations between the nuances of high-heel wear (considering types and duration) and the reported symptoms. This methodological framework ensures a comprehensive and precise exploration of the prevalence, causes, and treatment of plantar fasciitis in our targeted demographic. Results: All the participants were female, and the total number was 100, of which 66% felt pain in the heel when they wore high heels. Out of this 66%, only 6% are diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. The rest of the 60% have pain in the heel due to different causes such as heel spurs, stress fractures, etc. 2% of people receive treatment with steroid injections, and 12% are treated with ice. Conclusion: We conclude that the prevalence of plantar fasciitis is high in females wearing high heels. This study reveals that an increase in the total duration of wearing high heels with hard soles increases the symptoms of plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis can be prevented by education and applying ergonomics and could be treated by steroids and the ice method, according to medical practitioners. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The quality of fermented plant leaves is closely related to the interleaf microorganisms and their metabolic activities. In this experiment, a multi-omics analysis was applied to investigate the link between the structural composition of the phyllosphere microbial community and the main metabolites during the fermentation process. It was found that the whole fermentation process of cigar leaves could be divided into three stages, in which the Mid-Stage was the most active period of microbial metabolic activities and occupied an important position. Staphylococcus, Brevundimonas, Acinetobacter, Brevibacterium, Pantoea, Aspergillus, Wallemia, Meyerozyma, Sampaiozyma, Adosporium and Trichomonascus played important roles in this fermentation. Staphylococcus and Aspergillus are the microorganisms that play an important role in the fermentation process. Staphylococcus were strongly correlated with lipids and amino acids, despite its low abundance, Stenotrophomonas is importantly associated with terpene and plays a significant role throughout the process. It is worth noting that Wapper exists more characteristic fungal genera than Filler and is more rapid in fermentation progress, which implies that the details of the fermentation process should be adjusted appropriately to ensure stable quality when faced with plant leaves of different genotypes. This experiment explored the relationship between metabolites and microorganisms, and provided a theoretical basis for further optimizing the fermentation process of plant leaves and developing techniques to improve product quality. Background: Exploring the neural encoding mechanism and decoding of motion state switching during flight can advance our knowledge of avian behavior control and contribute to the development of avian robots. However, limited acquisition equipment and neural signal quality have posed challenges, thus we understand little about the neural mechanisms of avian flight. Methods: We used chronically implanted micro-electrode arrays to record the local field potentials (LFPs) in the formation reticularis medialis mesencephali (FRM) of pigeons during various motion states in their natural outdoor flight. Subsequently, coherence-based functional connectivity networks under different bands were constructed and the topological features were extracted. Finally, we used a support vector machine model to decode different flight states. Results: Our findings indicate that the gamma band (80-150 Hz) in the FRM exhibits significant power for identifying different states in pigeons. Specifically, the avian brain transmitted flight related information more efficiently during the accelerated take-off or decelerated landing states, compared with the uniform flight and baseline states. Finally, we achieved a best average accuracy of 0.86 using the connectivity features in the 80-150 Hz band and 0.89 using the fused features for state decoding. Conclusions: Our results open up possibilities for further research into the neural mechanism of avian flight and contribute to the understanding of flight behavior control in birds. As a fundamental degree of freedom, phonon chirality is expected to promote the development of quantum information technology just like electron spin. Currently, central to this area is the realization of efficient transmission and control of chiral information. In this paper, we propose an approach by integrating topological theory, leveraging topologically invariant Chern numbers, to encode hexagonal lattice systems. Our investigation reveals the presence of topologically protected chiral interface states within the shared band gaps of both trivial and non-trivial system units. By precisely modulating the magnetic field distribution within the encoding system, we can effectively manipulate the topological pathways. Building upon this framework, we design and implement a chiral phonon three-port device. Through dynamic calculations, we demonstrate the transmission process of chiral information, showcasing the chiral phonon switching effect and logical OR operation. Our findings not only establish a fundamental mechanism for the manipulation and control of phonon chiral information but also provide a promising direction for research in harnessing chirality degrees of freedom in practical applications. Unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) often operate in real-world environments with long voyage distances and complex routes. The use of a single-grid map model presents challenges, such as the high computational costs for high-resolution maps and loss of environmental information for low-resolution maps. This article proposes an environmental modeling method using a hybrid map that combines topology units and grids. The approach involves calibrating key nodes based on the watershed skeleton line, constructing a topology map using these nodes, decomposing the original map into unit maps, converting each unit map into a grid map, and creating a hybrid map environment model that comprises topology maps, unit map sets, and grid map sets. Then, the article introduces an improved genetic algorithm, called Genetic Algorithm with Feedback (FGA), to address path planning in hybrid maps. Experimental results demonstrate that FGA has better computational efficiency than other algorithms in similar experimental environments. In hybrid maps, path planning with FGA reduces the path lengths and time consumption, and the paths are more logical, smooth, and continuous. Tea plants are an economically important crop and conducting research on tea breeding contributes to enhancing the yield and quality of tea leaves as well as breeding traits that satisfy the requirements of the public. This study reviews the current status of tea plants germplasm resources and their utilization, which has provided genetic material for the application of multi-omics, including genomics and transcriptomics in breeding. Various molecular markers for breeding were designed based on multi-omics, and available approaches in the direction of high yield, quality and resistance in tea plants breeding are proposed. Additionally, future breeding of tea plants based on single-cellomics, pangenomics, plant–microbe interactions and epigenetics are proposed and provided as references. This study aims to provide inspiration and guidance for advancing the development of genetic breeding in tea plants, as well as providing implications for breeding research in other crops.

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is an important plant pathogenic fungus of many crops. Our previous study identified the S. sclerotiorum agglutinin (SSA) that can be partially degraded by the serine protease CmSp1 from the mycoparasite Coniothyrium minitans. However, the biological functions of SSA in the pathogenicity of S. sclerotiorum and in its response to infection by C. minitans, as well as to environmental stresses, remain unknown. In this study, SSA disruption and complementary mutants were generated for characterization of its biological functions. Both the wild-type (WT) of S. sclerotiorum and the mutants were compared for growth and sclerotial formation on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and autoclaved carrot slices (ACS), for pathogenicity on oilseed rape, as well as for susceptibility to chemical stresses (NaCl, KCl, CaCl2, sorbitol, mannitol, sucrose, sodium dodecyl sulfate, H2O2) and to the mycoparasitism of C. minitans. The disruption mutants (ΔSSA-175, ΔSSA-178, ΔSSA-225) did not differ from the WT and the complementary mutant ΔSSA-178C in mycelial growth. However, compared to the WT and ΔSSA-178C, the disruption mutants formed immature sclerotia on PDA, and produced less but larger sclerotia on ACS; they became less sensitive to the eight investigated chemical stresses, but more aggressive in infecting leaves of oilseed rape, and more susceptible to mycoparasitism by C. minitans. These results suggest that SSA positively regulates sclerotial development and resistance to C. minitans mycoparasitism, but negatively regulates pathogenicity and resistance to chemical stresses.

The fatigue failure mechanism of bending fretting for cyclic softening material 6061-T6 aluminum alloy was researched by experiment and finite element method. The influence of cyclic load on bending fretting fatigue was researched and the damage characteristics under different cycles was discussed experimentally though SEM images. In the simulation, a normal load transformation method was employed to obtain a simplified two-dimensional model used for simulating the bending fretting fatigue from a three-dimensional model. An advanced constitutive equation with the Abdel–Ohno rule and isotropic hardening evolution was transplanted into ABAQUS by UMAT subroutine to consider the ratchetting behavior and cyclic softening characteristics. The peak stain distributions under various cyclic loads were discussed. Additionally, the bending fretting fatigue lives and crack initiation locations referring to a critical volume method were estimated using the Smith–Watson–Topper critical plane approach and reasonable results were obtained.

Research Findings: Low-socioeconomic status (SES) (intervention group, n = 31; control group, n = 32) and middle/high-SES (reference group, n = 33) 5-year-old Chinese kindergartners were screened through SES and IQ test. Their number sense was examined over five time points. The pretest was conducted at the beginning of the fall semester, followed by three immediate posttests monthly. Math play training was administrated to the intervention group and story reading to the other two groups during this time. Lastly, a delayed posttest was conducted two months later after the last immediate posttest. All the interventions were carried out in small groups, 15-30 minutes sessions, 2 days per week for 12 weeks. The promotion effect of math play training was monitored based on response to intervention (RtI) paradigm. Utilizing latent growth modeling, we found that the intervention group got significant improvement in number sense and almost caught up with the middle/high-SES group after training, and the intervention effects persisted for two months. The control group had the slowest rate of progress and significantly lower scores than the other two groups. Practice or Policy: RtI-based mathematical game intervention could improve the number sense level and growth rate of preschoolers in rural areas.

Abstract Background Anaemia has been reported to be associated with cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease (AD), but the associations between anaemia and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) AD biomarkers are still unknown. This study aimed to investigate the associations between anaemia and CSF AD biomarkers. Methods Participants were included from the Chinese Alzheimer’s Biomarker and LifestylE (CABLE) study. The associations of anaemia and its severity with CSF AD biomarkers including β-amyloid 1–42 (Aβ42), total tau (t-tau) and phosphorylated tau (p-tau) were analysed by multiple linear regression models. Adjusted for age, gender, educational levels, APOE ε4 alleles, comorbidities (history of coronary heart disease, history of stroke, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidaemia) and glomerular filtration rate. Results A total of 646 cognitively normal older adults, consisting of 117 anaemia patients and 529 non-anaemia individuals, were included in this study. Anaemia patients had lower levels of CSF Aβ42 than individuals without anaemia (p = 0.035). Besides, participants with more severe anaemia had lower CSF Aβ42 levels (p = 0.045). No significant association of anaemia with CSF t-tau and p-tau levels was found. Conclusion Cross-sectionally, anaemia was associated with lower CSF Aβ42 levels. These findings consolidated the causal close relationship between anaemia and AD.

Abstract Flexible sensor arrays, such as towed and bottom‐mounted arrays, typically suffer from large shape deformations, which seriously affect the results of array processing. In this article, an innovative array shape calibration method with phase unwrapping techniques for highly deformed arrays is proposed. The deformed array is divided into several subarrays, and the first subarray is assumed to suffer from slight shape deformations which can be pre‐calibrated. With the consideration of highly deformed arrays, uncalibrated sensors in other subarrays would have serious position mismatches. The phase differences between uncalibrated and pre‐calibrated sensors are probably larger than 2π, which lead to phase ambiguity problems. A phase unwrapping technique is proposed to efficiently solve the phase ambiguity problem by considering the physical structure constraints of the deformed array, such as intersensor distance and bending angle. Then, sensor positions in highly deformed arrays are calibrated with multiple target directions. Simulation results evaluate the performance of the proposed calibration method, and the SwellEx‐96 shallow water experiment data set is utilised to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Aiming at the solution to the time-consuming and low-precision disadvantage of present methodologies,the light field depth estimation method combining context information of the scene is proposed.This method is based on an end-to-end convolutional neural network,with the advantage of obtaining depth map from a single light field image.On merit of the reduced computational cost from this method,the time consumption is consequently decreased.For improvement in calculation accuracy,multi orientation epipolar plane image volumes of the light field images are input to network,from which feature can be extracted by the multi-stream encoding module,and then aggregated by the encoding-decoding architecture with skip connection,resulting in fuse the context information of the neighborhood of the target pixel in the process of per-pixel disparity estimation.Furthermore,the model uses convolutional blocks of different depths to extract the structural features of the scene from the central viewpoint image,by introducing these structural features into the corresponding skip connection,additional references for edge features are obtained and the calculation accuracy is further improved.Experiments in the HCI 4D Light Field Benchmark show that the BadPix index and MSE index of the proposed method are respectively 31.2% and 54.6% lower than those of the comparison me-thod,and the average calculation time of depth estimation is 1.2 seconds,which is much faster than comparison method.

Abstract Background The prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is not optimistic. Our study focused on present inflammatory markers, including the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase-to-platelet ratio (GPR), aspartate aminotransferase-to-lymphocyte ratio (ALR) and fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (FAR), and explored their optimal combination for the prognosis of HCC after resection. Methods A total of 347 HCC patients who underwent curative resection were enrolled. The optimal cutoff values of the inflammatory markers were calculated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, and used to divide patients into two groups whose differences were compared by Kaplan–Meier analysis. Cox univariate and multivariate analyses were used to analyze the independent prognostic inflammatory markers. The χ2 test was chosen to determine the relationship between independent prognostic inflammatory markers and clinicopathological features. We created combined scoring models and evaluated them by Cox univariate and multivariate methods. The concordance index (C-index), Akaike information criterion (AIC) and likelihood ratio were calculated to compare the models. The selected optimal inflammatory markers and their combinations were tested in different stages of HCC by Kaplan–Meier analysis. Results The ALR and GPR were independent prognostic factors for disease-free survival (DFS); the ALR, PLR, and GPR were independent prognostic factors for overall survival (OS). The proposed GPR and ALR-GPR-PLR score models were independent predictors for DFS and OS, respectively. Conclusion The preoperative GPR and ALR-GPR-PLR score models were independent predictors for DFS and OS, respectively, and performed well in stratifying patients with HCC. The higher the score in the model was, the worse the prognosis.

Abstract Larval metamorphosis in bivalves is a key event for the larva-to-juvenile transformation. Previously we have identified a thyroid hormone receptor (TR) gene that is crucial for larvae to acquire “competence” for the metamorphic transition in the mussel Mytilus courscus (Mc). The mechanisms of thyroid signaling in bivalves are still largely unknown. In the present study, we molecularly characterized the full-length of two iodothyronine deiodinase genes (McDx and McDy). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that deiodinases of molluscs (McDy, CgDx and CgDy) and vertebrates (D2 and D3) shared a node representing an immediate common ancestor, which resembled vertebrates D1 and might suggest that McDy acquired specialized function from vertebrates D1. Anti-thyroid compounds, methimazole (MMI) and propylthiouracil (PTU), were used to investigate their effects on larval metamorphosis and juvenile development in M. coruscus. Both MMI and PTU significantly reduced larval metamorphosis in response to the metamorphosis inducer epinephrine. MMI led to shell growth retardation in a concentration-dependent manner in juveniles of M. coruscus after 4 weeks of exposure, whereas PTU had no effect on juvenile growth. It is hypothesized that exposure to MMI and PTU reduced the ability of pediveliger larvae for the metamorphic transition to respond to the inducer. The effect of MMI and PTU on larval metamorphosis and development is most likely through a hormonal signal in the mussel M. coruscus, with the implications for exploring the origins and evolution of metamorphosis.

BackgroundType I interferon (IFN) inhibits virus infection through multiple processes. Recent evidence indicates that IFN carries out its antiviral activity through readjusting of the cellular metabolism. The sterile alpha motif and histidine-aspartate domain containing protein 1 (SAMHD1), as an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG), has been reported to inhibit a number of retroviruses and DNA viruses, by depleting dNTPs indispensable for viral DNA replication. Here we report a new antiviral activity of SAMHD1 against RNA viruses including HCV and some other flaviviruses infection.MethodsMultiple cellular and molecular biological technologies have been used to detect virus infection, replication and variation of intracellular proteins, including western blotting, qRT-PCR, Gene silencing, immunofluorescence, etc. Besides, microarray gene chip technology was applied to analyze the effects of SAMHD1 overexpression on total expressed genes.ResultsOur data show that SAMHD1 down-regulates the expression of genes related to lipid bio-metabolic pathway, accompanied with impaired lipid droplets (LDs) formation, two events important for flaviviruses infection. Mechanic study reveals that SAMHD1 mainly targets on HCV RNA replication, resulting in a broad inhibitory effect on the infectivity of flaviviruses. The C-terminal domain of SAMHD1 is showed to determine its antiviral function, which is regulated by the phosphorylation of T592. Restored lipid level by overexpression of SREBP1 or supplement with LDs counteracts with the antiviral activity of SAMHD1, providing evidence supporting the role of SAMHD1-mediated down-regulation of lipid synthesis in its function to inhibit viral infection.ConclusionSAMHD1 plays an important role in IFN-mediated blockade of flaviviruses infection through targeting lipid bio-metabolic pathway.

BackgroundDifferent pathological subtypes of lung adenocarcinoma lead to different treatment decisions and prognoses, and it is clinically important to distinguish invasive lung adenocarcinoma from preinvasive adenocarcinoma (adenocarcinoma in situ and minimally invasive adenocarcinoma). This study aims to investigate the performance of the deep learning approach based on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) images in the classification of tumor invasiveness and compare it with the performances of currently available approaches.MethodsIn this study, we used a deep learning approach based on 3D conventional networks to automatically predict the invasiveness of pulmonary nodules. A total of 901 early-stage non-small cell lung cancer patients who underwent surgical treatment at Shanghai Chest Hospital between November 2015 and March 2017 were retrospectively included and randomly assigned to a training set (n=814) or testing set 1 (n=87). We subsequently included 116 patients who underwent surgical treatment and intraoperative frozen section between April 2019 and January 2020 to form testing set 2. We compared the performance of our deep learning approach in predicting tumor invasiveness with that of intraoperative frozen section analysis and human experts (radiologists and surgeons).ResultsThe deep learning approach yielded an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.946 for distinguishing preinvasive adenocarcinoma from invasive lung adenocarcinoma in the testing set 1, which is significantly higher than the AUCs of human experts (P0.05) and junior thoracic surgeons (0.768, P>0.05).ConclusionsWe developed a deep learning model that achieved comparable performance to intraoperative frozen section analysis in determining tumor invasiveness. The proposed method may contribute to clinical decisions related to the extent of surgical resection.

BackgroundIn order to maintain high standards of healthcare, it is necessary for medical departments to provide high-quality and affordable medical services to local residents. This has been widely accepted in developed countries, while the medical treatment systems in developing countries remain to be improved. This research is based on a pilot of a hierarchical medical system in Shanghai, China, to evaluate the effects on policy of medical reform in developing countries.Methods and resultsBy means of the difference-in-differences (DID) method, the causal relationship between medical care services' improvement and hierarchical medical systems' implementation could be identified. This project also explores the differential effects of policy intervention and confirms that the pilot showed a significant improvement in medical performance in central districts while the result remains uncertain in terms of suburban districts. Furthermore, the dynamic effect of a hierarchical medical system has also been identified with the event study method, while the policy pilot only had short-term effects on local medical resources' improvement. In order to ascertain the function mechanisms of hierarchical medical systems and explain why the policy pilot only had short-term effects, this project also conducts influencing mechanism analysis with the triple-differences method (also known as difference-in-difference-in-differences or DDD method). According to the empirical results, there is no direct evidence indicating the hierarchical medical system could bring obvious benefits from the perspectives of patients and medical institutions.ConclusionsFor better implementation of hierarchical medical systems in the future, long-term supervision mechanisms should be given more attention in the enforcement process of hierarchical medical systems. At the same time, more safeguarding measures should be implemented, such as supervising the payment systems of the medical institution and conducting performance evaluation.

Decidual macrophages (dMϕs) play critical roles in the establishment of microhomeostasis at the maternal-fetal interface during pregnancy. Impaired macrophage polarization during early pregnancy is associated with recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA). In the present study, the SEC5 expression level was found to be significantly decreased in primary dMϕs of patients with RSA, and downregulation of SEC5 expression inhibited M2 polarization and STAT6 phosphorylation, whereas SEC5 overexpression in the Mϕs promoted M2 polarization and STAT6 phosphorylation in vitro. We subsequently found that SEC5 interacted with STAT6 in THP-1-derived Mϕs. The abundance of phosphorylated STAT6 (pSTAT6) protein was obviously increased, with a predominant distribution in the nucleus, after M2 polarization of Mϕs, and SEC5 protein was colocalized with pSTAT6. Moreover, a significantly reduced pSTAT6 expression level was observed in the dMϕs of patients with RSA. M2 polarization of Mϕs showed a stimulatory effect on the proliferation and invasion of human extravillous trophoblasts (EVTs) in vitro, and downregulation of SEC5 expression in Mϕs effectively reversed this effect. In a mouse model of LPS-induced early pregnancy loss, the uterine SEC5 expression level and the number of M2-Mϕs at the maternal-fetal interface were significantly reduced. More interestingly, heterozygous SEC5-deficient (SEC5−/+) pregnant mice were more sensitive to LPS-induced pregnancy loss. Taken together, these data indicate that SEC5 participates in the regulation of M2 polarization of Mϕs by interacting with STAT6 and that decreased SEC5 expression inhibits the M2 polarization of dMϕs and results in early pregnancy loss by interfering with the physical activities of EVTs and immunotolerance at the maternal-fetal interface.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to propose a novel surgical method via combination of fat graft and paraspinal muscle flap, in order to treat cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak during posterior thoracolumbar surgery. The clinical outcomes were also evaluated.MethodsData of a total of 71 patients who were diagnosed with intraoperative incidental durotomy and CSF leak after posterior thoracolumbar surgery in our hospital form January 2019 to January 2021 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Among them, 34 and 37 patients were assigned into conventional suturing (CS) group and fat graft and paraspinal muscle flap (FPM) group, respectively. SERINC5 is a multi-span transmembrane protein that is incorporated into HIV-1 particles in producing cells and inhibits HIV-1 entry. Multiple retroviruses like HIV-1, equine infectious anemia virus and murine leukemia virus are subject to SERINC5 inhibition, while HIV-1 pseudotyped with envelope glycoproteins of vesicular stomatitis virus and Ebola virus are resistant to SERINC5. The antiviral spectrum and the underlying mechanisms of SERINC5 restriction are not completely understood. Here we show that SERINC5 inhibits influenza A virus infection by targeting virus-cell membrane fusion at an early step of infection. Further results show that different influenza hemagglutinin (HA) subtypes exhibit diverse sensitivities to SERINC5 restriction. Analysis of the amino acid sequences of influenza HA1 strains indicates that HA glycosylation sites correlate with the sensitivity of influenza HA to SERINC5, and the inhibitory effect of SERINC5 was lost when certain HA glycosylation sites were mutated. Our study not only expands the antiviral spectrum of SERINC5, but also reveals the role of viral envelope glycosylation in resisting SERINC5 restriction.

Considering the vulnerable climatic conditions in most parts of the planet, a successful transition toward a carbon-free future is a critical challenge worldwide. In this respect, around 35% of the world’s total greenhouse gas emission (GHG) is associated with the power sector (especially electrical energy). To this end, a vast of electrical energy has been used by the people in buildings. Specifically, a significant amount of energy in buildings is used for heating, cooling, and ventilation. While the available literature highlights the importance of neat, clean, and green electrical energy for the decarbonization of society, a critical gap exists in such literature. That is, most of the literature under this stream deals with the supply side (production) of electrical energy, while the demand side (consumption at an individual level) was neglected. To bridge this critical knowledge gap, this study investigates how the CSR engagement of a hotel organization can promote the energy-related pro-environmental behavior (ERPEB) among the employees with the intervening effect of employees’ environmental commitment (EMEC) and Green intrinsic motivation (GRIM). Further, the conditional indirect role of altruistic values was also tested in this study. The data were collected from different hotel employees in Pakistan with the help of a self-administered questionnaire. We tested the hypothesized relationship through structural equation modeling (SEM). The results confirmed that CSR can be a potential motivator to impact the ERPEB of employees, while EMEC and GRIM mediated this relationship significantly. The findings of this study also confirmed the conditional indirect role of altruistic values. These findings offer various theoretical and practical contributions which are conversed in detail.

Mytilus coruscus is a significant economic species in China’s eastern coastal areas. As a dioecious species, it lacks secondary sexual characteristics, which makes it difficult for selective breeding. However, limited research is carried out on the genetic data regarding reproductive development and gender differentiation. In the current study, de novo transcriptome sequencing analyses were used to detect gonad-specific genes and miRNAs in M. coruscus. By comparing testis and ovary, 159,970 unigenes and 300 miRNAs were obtained totally, of which differentially expressed genes and miRNAs were 9,566 and 25, respectively. Analysis of qRT-PCR showed that cyp26a, dmrt4, foxl2, gdf9, 17β-hsd14, sc6a9, zar1, and zp4 were highly expressed in the ovary as compared to the testis, while sox2 showed lower expression in the ovary. Expression of miR-750-3p, novel 1, and miR-193 was higher in the ovary than that in the testis, whereas the expression of miR-9-5p, miR-9-3p, miR-317, novel 124, miR-2d and miR-263b were lower in the ovary. Furthermore, analysis of miR-317 by Targetscan and MiRanda predicted to target dmrt4 and the luciferase reporter was performed to confirm it. Our research provides a molecular basis for understanding sexual development and reproductive regulation. Further research is needed on the mechanism of gonadal maturation and differentiation in M. coruscus.

Corneal perforation is a rare and serious complication of ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGVHD) patients. This study was to retrospectively report seven corneal perforation patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Demographic, hematologic, and ophthalmological data of patients were clarified in detail. Nine eyes of seven corneal perforation patients were clarified (Cases 3 and 6 were bilateral and the others are unilateral). All the cases had other affected GVHD organs, especially skin involvement. The duration between HSCT and corneal perforation was usually long with 21 (17–145) months as median interval, whereas the duration between oGVHD diagnosis and corneal perforation was relatively shorter with 4 (2–81) months as median interval. Most patients presented to ophthalmology department with poor visual acuity, BUT and Schirmer’s test. Eyelid marginal hyperemia and irregularity were observed in most corneal perforation eyes. Keratoplasty or conjunctival flap covering (CFC) surgeries was performed after corneal perforation. After a long-term follow-up for most patients (median 21 months, range: 2–86 months), only two eyes of two patients (22.22%) had a final BCVA of 20/100 or better. Patients involved in both cutaneous GVHD and blepharitis indicate the aggressive development of oGVHD. Early diagnosis, long-term follow-up, and effective multi-disciplinary treatments for oGVHD patients are essential. Corticosteroids and immunosuppressor remain essential, whereas the use of topical corticosteroids should be carefully considered in corneal ulceration patients. In addition, appropriate surgeries should be performed to control oGVHD development in time.
