352. Characterization of aplanatic hologram lenses for optical disk pick-ups.

Abstract

Imaging characteristics for holographic objective lenses application to optical disk pick-ups was analyzed by a comparison between flat and spherical aplanatic hologram lenses with the aid of the third order aberration theory and ray tracing method. The aplanatic hologram lens image field was 0.5 deg for NA=0.5 with focal length f=5 mm under the Marechal criterion. 353. Experimental Study on a Second-Harmonic Intensity Modulator with Quasi-Phase-Matched Optical Waveguides

Abstract

A second-harmonic intensity modulator with quasi-phase-matched optical waveguide is fabricated and demonstrated. The domain-inverted structure and proton-exchanged optical waveguides are fabricated on a Z-cut LiTaO3substrate. Traveling-wave type Al electrodes are fabricated on the SiO2buffer layer. Second-harmonic radiation can be modulated by giving phase mismatch to the second-harmonic generator by using the electro-optic effect. The conversion efficiency of the device is 0.4%/Wcm2and the switching voltage is 180 V, when the duty ratio of the quasi-phase-matched grating is 0.4. Modulation is achieved up to about 1 MHz.
