Diante da tensão entre a possibilidade ou não de se fazer a leitura dos institutos do direito privado numa perspectiva constitucional, mediante a irradiação dos princípios constitucionais, este estudo procura respostas possíveis dentro da teoria dos direitos fundamentais. Para isso, será feito um levantamento teórico dos principais conceitos de direito fundamental, norma, ordenamento e princípio, para assim ser possível identificar chaves de leituras capazes de harmonizar, dentro da teoria constitucional, o diálogo entre os ordenamentos. Desde já reconhecendo que, se, por um lado, é impossível negar a imperatividade das normas constitucionais, frustra, por outro, o interesse constitucional na aplicação irrestrita dos seus princípios. Assim, o artigo buscará um meio-termo capaz de responder a essas questões.

In order to improve the sustainability of trout farming, it is essential to develop alternatives to fish-based meals that prevent intestinal disorders and support growth performances. Therefore, an accurate knowledge of intestinal morphology and physiology is desirable. We previously described the epithelial component of the intestinal stem-cell (ISC) niche in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), which is one of the most successfully farmed species and a representative model of the salmonids family. This work aims to expand that knowledge by investigating the niche stromal components that contribute to intestinal homeostasis. We analyzed samples belonging to five individuals collected from a local commercial farm. Histological and ultrastructural studies revealed peculiar mesenchymal cells adjacent to the epithelium that generated an intricate mesh spanning from the folds’ base to their apex. Their voluminous nuclei, limited cytoplasm and long cytoplasmic projections characterized them as telocytes (TCs). TEM analysis showed the secretion of extracellular vesicles, suggesting their functional implication in cell-to-cell communication. Furthermore, we evaluated the localization of well-defined mouse TC markers (pdgfrα and foxl1) and their relationship with the epithelial component of the niche. TCs establish a direct connection with ISCs and provide short-range signaling, which also indicates their key role as the mesenchymal component of the stem-cell niche in this species. Interestingly, the TC distribution and gene-expression pattern in rainbow trout closely overlapped with those observed in mice, indicating that they have the same functions in both species. These results substantially improve our understanding of the mechanisms regulating intestinal homeostasis and will enable a more detailed evaluation of innovative feed effects.

Immersive virtual reality can potentially open up interesting geological sites to students, academics and others who may not have had the opportunity to visit such sites previously. We study how users perceive the usefulness of an immersive virtual reality approach applied to Earth Sciences teaching and communication. During nine immersive virtual reality-based events held in 2018 and 2019 in various locations (Vienna in Austria, Milan and Catania in Italy, Santorini in Greece), a large number of visitors had the opportunity to navigate, in immersive mode, across geological landscapes reconstructed by cutting-edge, unmanned aerial system-based photogrammetry techniques. The reconstructed virtual geological environments are specifically chosen virtual geosites, from Santorini (Greece), the North Volcanic Zone (Iceland), and Mt. Etna (Italy). Following the user experiences, we collected 459 questionnaires, with a large spread in participant age and cultural background. We find that the majority of respondents would be willing to repeat the immersive virtual reality experience, and importantly, most of the students and Earth Science academics who took part in the navigation confirmed the usefulness of this approach for geo-education purposes.

The ICT scene is dominated by short-range intra-datacenter interconnects and networking, requiring high speed and stable operations at high temperatures. GaAs/AlGaAs vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) emitting at 850–980 nm have arisen as the main actors in this framework. Starting from our in-house 3D fully comprehensive VCSEL solver VENUS, in this work we present the possibility of downscaling the dimensionality of the simulation, ending up with a multiphysics 1D solver (D1ANA), which is shown to be capable of reproducing the experimental data very well. D1ANA is then extensively applied to optimize high-temperature operation, by modifying cavity detuning and distributed Bragg’s reflector lengths.

By answering the need for increasing sustainability in aquaculture, the present study aimed to compare growth, gene expression involved in appetite regulation, physical characteristics, and chemical composition of Sparus aurata fed alternative protein sources. Fish were fed ten iso-proteic, iso-lipidic, and isoenergetic diets: a vegetable-based (CV) and a marine ingredient-rich (CF) diet were set as control diets. The others were prepared by replacing graded levels (10, 20 or 40%) of the vegetable proteins in the CV with proteins from a commercial defatted Hermetia illucens pupae meal (H), poultry by-product meal (PBM) singly (H10, H20, H40, P20, P40) or in combination (H10P30), red swamp crayfish meal (RC10) and from a blend (2:1, w:w) of Tisochrysis lutea and Tetraselmis suecica (MA10) dried biomasses. The increase in ghre gene expression observed in MA10 fed fish matched with increased feed intake and increased feed conversion ratio. Besides, the MA10 diet conferred a lighter aspect to the fish skin (p < 0.05) than the others. Overall, no detrimental effects of H, PBM, and RC meal included in the diets were observed, and fish fatty acid profile resulted as comparable among these groups and CV, thus demonstrating the possibility to introduce H, PBM, and RC in partial replacement of vegetable proteins in the diet for Sparus aurata.

The attempt to replace marine-derived ingredients for aquafeed formulation with plant-derived ones has met some limitations due to their negative side effects on many fish species. In this context, finding new, sustainable ingredients able to promote fish welfare is currently under exploration. In the present study, poultry by-products and Hermetia illucens meal were used to replace the vegetable protein fraction in diets totally deprived of fish meal intended for gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata). After a 12-week feeding trial, a multidisciplinary approach including histological, molecular, and spectroscopic techniques was adopted to investigate intestine and liver responses to the different dietary formulations. Regardless of the alternative ingredient used, the reduction in dietary vegetable proteins resulted in a lower incidence of intestine histological alterations and inflammatory responses. In addition, the dietary inclusion of insect meal positively affected the reduction in the molecular inflammatory markers analyzed. Spectroscopic analyses showed that poultry by-product meal improved lipid absorption in the intestine, while insect meal induced increased liver lipid deposition in fish. The results obtained demonstrated that both poultry by-products and H. illucens meal can successfully be used to replace plant-derived ingredients in diets for gilthead seabream, promoting healthy aquaculture.

Peroxiredoxin-2 (Prx2) is the third most abundant cytoplasmic protein in red blood cells. Prx2 belongs to a well-known family of antioxidants, the peroxiredoxins (Prxs), that are widely expressed in mammalian cells. Prx2 is a typical, homodimeric, 2-Cys Prx that uses two cysteine residues to accomplish the task of detoxifying a vast range of organic peroxides, H2O2, and peroxynitrite. Although progress has been made on functional characterization of Prx2, much still remains to be investigated on Prx2 post-translational changes. Here, we first show that Prx2 is Tyrosine (Tyr) phosphorylated by Syk in red cells exposed to oxidation induced by diamide. We identified Tyr-193 in both recombinant Prx2 and native Prx2 from red cells as a specific target of Syk. Bioinformatic analysis suggests that phosphorylation of Tyr-193 allows Prx2 conformational change that is more favorable for its peroxidase activity. Indeed, Syk-induced Tyr phosphorylation of Prx2 enhances in vitro Prx2 activity, but also contributes to Prx2 translocation to the membrane of red cells exposed to diamide. The biologic importance of Tyr-193 phospho-Prx2 is further supported by data on red cells from a mouse model of humanized sickle cell disease (SCD). SCD is globally distributed, hereditary red cell disorder, characterized by severe red cell oxidation due to the pathologic sickle hemoglobin. SCD red cells show Tyr-phosphorylated Prx2 bound to the membrane and increased Prx2 activity when compared to healthy erythrocytes. Collectively, our data highlight the novel link between redox related signaling and Prx2 function in normal and diseased red cells.

In the Northern Volcanic Zone of Iceland, the geometry, kinematics and offset amount of the structures that form the active Krafla Rift were studied. This rift is composed of a central volcano and a swarm of extension fractures, normal faults and eruptive fissures, which were mapped and analysed through remote sensing and field techniques. In three areas, across the northern, central and southern part of the rift, detailed measurements were collected by extensive field surveys along the post-Late Glacial Maximum (LGM) extension fractures and normal faults, to reconstruct their strike, opening direction and dilation amount. The geometry and the distribution of all the studied structures suggest a northward propagation of the rift, and an interaction with the Húsavík–Flatey Fault. Although the opening direction at the extension fractures is mostly normal to the general N–S rift orientation (average value N99.5° E), a systematic occurrence of subordinate transcurrent components of motion is noticed. From the measured throw at each normal fault, the heave was calculated, and it was summed together with the net dilation measured at the extension fractures; this has allowed us to assess the stretch ratio of the rift, obtaining a value of 1.003 in the central sector, and 1.001 and 1.002 in the northern and southern part, respectively.

In the present work we highlight the effectiveness of integrating different techniques and tools for better surveying, mapping and collecting data in volcanic areas. We use an Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) approach for data collection, integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis in a well-known volcanological site in Santorini (Metaxa mine), a site where volcanic processes influenced the island’s industrial development, especially with regard to pumice mining. Specifically, we have focused on: (i) three-dimensional (3D) high-resolution IVR scenario building, based on Structure from Motion photogrammetry (SfM) modeling; (ii) subsequent geological survey, mapping and data collection using IVR; (iii) data analysis, e.g., calculation of extracted volumes, as well as production of new maps in a GIS environment using input data directly from the IVR survey; and finally, (iv) presentation of new outcomes that highlight the importance of the Metaxa Mine as a key geological and volcanological geosite.

El presente trabajo expone una síntesis de la geología que comprende al complejo cristalino que constituye la Sierra de La Aguada, provincia de San Luis, Argentina, desde un enfoque basado en las relaciones de campo, los rasgos petrológico-estructurales y las características geoquímicas. Dicha serranía expone un basamento dominado por rocas plutónicas intermedias-máficas de afinidad calcoalcalina y granitoides félsicos peraluminosos, en conjunto intruidas en metamorfitas de bajo a medio grado metamórfico estabilizadas en condiciones de facies de anfibolita. Todo el conjunto litológico ha sido agrupado dentro del denominado complejo El Carrizal-La Aguada. El análisis de las relaciones de campo, la petrografía y la comparación de las características geoquímicas de las rocas plutónicas del área estudiada y aquellas pertenecientes a la suite ordovícica Famatiniana expuestas en la Sierra Grande de San Luis, sugiere una posible relación genética-temporal vinculada al desarrollo del arco magmático Famatiniano.

In B-Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (B-CLL) kinase Lyn is overexpressed, active, abnormally distributed, and part of a cytosolic complex involving hematopoietic lineage cell-specific protein 1 (HS1). These aberrant properties of Lyn could partially explain leukemic cells' defective apoptosis, directly or through its substrates, for example, HS1 that has been associated to apoptosis in different cell types. To verify the hypothesis of HS1 involvement in Lyn-mediated leukemic cell survival, we investigated HS1 protein in 71 untreated B-CLL patients and 26 healthy controls. Sleep disturbances may be associated with impaired glucose metabolism . The aim of this study was to evaluate sleep duration and quality in relation to glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. In a cross-sectional study, sleep duration and quality were assessed in 47 middle-aged patients with type 2 diabetes treated with oral agents and without sleep disturbing complications and 23 healthy control subjects similar by age, sex, body mass index, occupation and schooling. Sleep was recorded by wrist-actigraphy for three consecutive days under free-living conditions. Univariate analysis showed lower sleep maintenance ( P = 0.002) and sleep efficiency ( P = 0.005), and higher fragmentation index ( P < 0.0001), total activity score ( P = 0.05) and moving time ( P < 0.0001) in patients with type 2 diabetes. After adjusting for age, gender and schooling, fragmentation index and moving time remained significantly higher in the patients with diabetes ( P < 0.05, both). HbA1c correlated inversely with sleep efficiency ( r = −0.29; P = 0.047) and positively with moving time ( r = 0.31; P = 0.031). These findings suggest that type 2 diabetes is associated with sleep disruptions even in the absence of complications or obesity. The relevance of sleep abnormalities to metabolic control and possible strategies to improve sleep quality in type 2 diabetes deserve further investigation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Central serotoninergic activity may modulate glucose metabolism via neuroendocrine effectors. Group Care is a clinico-pedagogic intervention that improves metabolic control and quality of life in Type 2 diabetes through lifestyle modification and, possibly, central mechanisms. The hypothesis that central serotoninergic activity is modified in patients followed by Group Care was tested by measuring their hypothalamic- pituitary-adrenal response to citalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor., Methods and Subjects: Ten healthy controls and 17 non-obese, non-insulin-treated patients with Type 2 diabetes received, in random order, iv infusions of either 20 mg citalopram or saline. Nine patients had been longterm on Group Care and 8 had always been on traditional one-to-one care. Circulating glucose, insulin, ACTH, cortisol, DHEA, GH and PRL were measured every 15 min for 240 min. Differences between areas under the curves after citalopram and saline (Δ-AUC) were calculated., Results: Citalopram stimulated ACTH and cortisol secretion in healthy subjects (p=0.026 and p=0.011, respectively) and patients on Group Care (p=0.056 and p=0.038) but not in patients on traditional care. In healthy subjects, basal glucose correlated with growth hormone Δ- AUC (r=0.820; p=0.004) and inversely with insulin Δ-AUC (r=-0.822; p=0.003). The former correlation was preserved in the patients (r=0.637; p=0.026)., Conclusions: Diabetes may blunt the response of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis to citalopram, but this is preserved in patients followed by a long-term intervention model that improves clinical as well as cognitive and emotional variables.
