Introduction Relatively little is known about whether the association between smoking and depressive symptoms changes with age and how the trajectories of smoking and depressive symptoms are intertwined during the life course. In this population-based study, these associations were examined from young adulthood to middle age. Methods Participants of a Finnish cohort study (N = 1955) were assessed at the ages of 22, 32, 42, and 52 using questionnaires covering daily smoking (yes/no) and the short 13-item Beck Depression Inventory. Longitudinal latent class and longitudinal latent profile analyses were used to identify life course trajectories of smoking and depressive symptoms. Results The proportions of daily smokers decreased, while levels of depressive symptoms increased among both females and males from age 22 to 52 years. Smoking was associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms from age 22 to 42 years, while not at 52. Associations among males prevailed when adjusting for education, marital status, and alcohol use. Four life course classes of daily smoking (nonsmokers, decreasing prevalence of smoking, persistent smokers, and increasing prevalence of smoking) and four trajectories of depressive symptoms (low, increasing/moderate, decreasing/moderate, and high) were identified. In males, persistent daily smokers (relative risk ratio (RRR) = 4.5, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.2 to 9.2) and those in the class with increasing smoking prevalence (RRR = 3.2, 95% CI: 1.1 to 9.1) had an increased risk of belonging to the high depressive symptoms profile. In females these associations were nonsignificant. Conclusions Compared to females, the relationship between smoking and depressive symptoms seems more robust among males during adulthood. Specifically, males smoking persistently from young adulthood to middle age have an increased risk of high depressive symptoms trajectory. Implications This population-based cohort with 30 years of follow-up showed that the life course trajectories of daily smoking and depressive symptoms are associated. Persistent daily smokers and those starting late had an increased risk of belonging to the profile with constantly high levels of depressive symptoms during the life course. However, these associations were statistically significant only in males. Actions should be strengthened, especially in males, to prevent smoking initiation, to help smoking cessation, and to identify and treat depression in smokers with significant depressive symptoms. In the course of psoriatic arthritis (PsA), depression occurs much more often than in the general population. Depression can be considered a poor prognostic factor. The aim of the study was to assess the relationships between the occurrence of depression and the levels of proinflammatory cytokines in patients with PsA. The study included 86 (47F/39M) patients with PsA. Only patients with high disease activity (DAPSA > 28) were enrolled in the study. The severity of depressive symptoms was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II) for all patients. Additionally, sociodemographic data were collected. All patients were also assessed for the levels of interleukins (IL): IL-1, IL-6, IL-17A, IL-23, and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test. In the study group, depression (BDI-II ≥ 14) was diagnosed in 45 patients (52%). Patients with coexisting depression reported higher levels of pain and disease activity on the visual analogue scale compared to patients without depression (8.5 vs. 7.7, p < 0.001 and 9.3 vs. 8.4, p < 0.001, respectively). The mean levels of proinflammatory cytokines [pg/ml], IL-1 and IL-6, were also higher in the group of patients with depression (46.4 vs. 4.7, p < 0.001 and 10.5 vs. 4.9, p < 0.001, respectively). The coexistence of depression in the course of Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) is associated with higher levels of IL-1 and IL-6. Introduction: Mental disorders play a major role in today's society. The study presented relates to people with depressive disorders. Resilience trainings offers an opportunity to cope well with stress. The study focuses on the evaluation of the LOOVANZ program conducted for patients with depressive experiences and behavior in acute psychiatric care. 50 inpatients took part in the training in a psychiatric clinic. Methods: A pre-post design based on three fully standardized questionnaires was used to evaluate the training effects: Beck Depression Inventory Revision, DGPG resilience scale 32 and the scale of general self-efficacy (SWE). Results: Lower values for the level of depression and higher values for resilience and SWE were found. A negative correlation between the depressive symptoms and the resilience factors and also between the depressive symptoms and the SWE could be identified before and after the training. There is a positive correlation between resilience factors and SWE at both times of survey. Results: Effects should not be considered individually due to a multimodal therapy approach. However, the intervention study enabled an initial evaluation with promising results, which provide a basis for further studies and highlight further research needs and practical relevance. Background: Emotions expressed on the face play a key role in social cognition and communication by providing inner emotional experiences. This study aimed to evaluate facial emotion identification and discrimination and empathy abilities in patients with MS and whether it is related to cognitive dysfunction. Methods: One hundred twenty patients with relapsing–remitting MS and age- and sex-matched 120 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. All the subjects were evaluated with the Facial Emotion Identification Test (FEIT), Facial Emotion Discrimination Test (FEIDT), and Empathy Quotient (EQ). We used the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) for depression and detailed cognitive tests, including the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT), and the Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT). The quality of life was assessed with Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life-54 (MSQL-54). Results: Patients with MS were 37.6 ± 9.5 years old, had a mean disease duration of 8.8 ± 6.6 (8–28) years, and a mean EDSS score of 1.6 ± 1.3 (0–4.5). We found significant differences in the identification of facial emotions, discrimination of facial emotions, and empathy in MS patients compared to controls (p < 0.05). Especially the recognition of feelings of sadness, fear, and shame was significantly lower in MS patients. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed low SDMT and FEIDT scores which showed an independent association with MS. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that facial emotion recognition and identification deficits are remarkable among patients with MS and emotion recognition is impaired together with and independently of cognitive dysfunction in MS patients. Purpose: To evaluate the quality of life, sexual function, anxiety, and depression of women with endometriosis according to pain symptoms and infertility. Methods: This cross-sectional multicenter study included 229 women with endometriosis followed up at a tertiary hospital in Campinas, a tertiary hospital in São Paulo, and a reproductive medicine clinic in Campinas from 2018 to 2021. The women were divided into four groups according to the presence of pain symptoms and infertility. The Endometriosis Health Profile Questionnaire, Female Sexual Function Index, Beck Depression Inventory, and Beck Anxiety Index were applied to assess quality of life, sexual function, depression, and anxiety of women with endometriosis. Results: The women were grouped as follows: group 1 (45 women without infertility and without pain), group 2 (73 women without infertility and with pain), group 3 (49 women with infertility and without pain), and group 4 (62 women with infertility and pain). Of the women with infertility, the majority had primary infertility. Most women had deep endometriosis (p = 0.608). Women with pain had higher anxiety and depression scores and worse quality of life than women without pain (p < 0.001). Regarding sexual function, all the groups were at risk for sexual dysfunction (p = 0.671). The group of women with pain and infertility have worse anxiety scores (25.31 ± 15.96) and depression (18.81 ± 11.16) than the other groups. Conclusion: Pain symptoms worsen anxiety, depression, and quality of life of women with endometriosis and when associated with infertility, greater impairment of psychological aspects may occur. From the perspective of the health context paradox, this study examined the relationship between adolescent victimization and depression based on the diathesis-stress model and attribution theory using a nested model. A survey was conducted on 3743 Chinese adolescents using the Bullying & Victimization Scale, Rumination Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, and Bullying Attitude Scale. The results disclosed that victimization had a positive impact on depression, rumination played a mediating role between victimization and depression, and classroom anti-bullying attitudes heightened the correlation between victimization and developing depression as well as between victimization and engaging in rumination thinking. This study provides a new cross-level perspective to reduce the occurrence of depression among bullied adolescents and further validates the health context paradox, expanding its applicability range. Objective Depression is one of the most disabling non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD) and requires proper diagnosis as it negatively impacts patients' and their relatives quality of life. The present study aimed to examine the psychometric and diagnostic properties of the Beck Depression Inventory-I (BDI-I) in a Spanish PD cohort. Method Consecutive PD outpatients completed the Spanish version of the BDI-I and other questionnaires assessing anxiety and apathy. Patients' caregivers completed the depression/dysphoria domain of the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI-D). The internal consistency, convergent and divergent validity and the factorial structure of BDI-I were evaluated, and an optimal cut-off was defined by means of the Youden index. Results The BDI-I proved to have a good internal consistency and was underpinned by a mono-component structure. Regarding construct validity, the BDI-I was substantially related to anxiety and apathy measures in PD. Furthermore, the BDI-I overall showed good accuracy with adequate sensitivity and specificity. The optimal cut-off point was defined at 10. Conclusions We provided evidence of the psychometric and diagnostic properties of the Spanish version of the BDI-I as a screening tool for depression in Spanish speaking PD patients, suggesting its usefulness in clinical research and practice. Suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) are a significant public health problem. This study aims to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Suicide Cognitions Scale-Revised (SCS-R). Participants (N = 442, age range: 18-29 years) completed the SCS-R, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Inventory of Statements About Self-injury, the Suicide Probability Scale, and the Suicide Rumination Scale. Principal component analysis showed that the SCS-R consisted of a single factor and that the SCS-R could differentiate between participants at high risk and low risk of suicide. High-to-moderate positive associations were found between the measures of depression, suicide probability, suicide rumination, and non-suicidal self-injury and suicide cognition. The Turkish version of the SCS-R has good psychometric properties. This scale can be used to screen for cognitive patterns that are most prone to suicide and to manage such cognitive characteristics, which are important steps for preventive interventions. Background: During episodes of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), individuals with migraine, compared with individuals without migraine, may experience more severe vestibular symptoms because of their hyperexcitable brain structures, more adverse effects on quality of life, and worse recovery processes from BPPV. Methods: All patients with BPPV were assigned to the migraine group (MG, n = 64) and without migraine group (BPPV w/o MG, n = 64) and completed the Vertigo Symptom Scale (VSS), Vertigo Dizziness Imbalance Symptom Scale (VDI-SS), VDI Health-Related Quality of Life Scale (VDI-HRQoLS), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) at the time of BPPV diagnosis (baseline) and on the one-month follow-up. Headache Impact Test-6 and Migraine Disability Assessment Scale were used for an assessment of headache. Motion sickness was evaluated based on the statement of each patient as present or absent. Results: Compared with the BPPV w/o MG, the MG had higher VSS scores at baseline [19.5 (10.7) vs. 11.3 (8.5); p < 0.001] and on one-month follow-up [10.9 (9.3) vs. 2.2 (2.7), p < 0.001]; experienced more severe dizziness and imbalance symptoms based on the VDI-SS at baseline (61.9% vs. 77.3%; p < 0.001) and after one month (78.9% vs. 93.7%, p < 0.001); and more significantly impaired quality of life according to the VDI-HRQoLS at baseline (77.4% vs. 91.8%, p < 0.001) and after one month (86.3% vs. 97.6%, p < 0.001). On the one-month follow-up, the subgroups of patients with moderate and severe scores of the BAI were higher in the MG (39.2%, n = 24) than in the BPPV w/o MG (21.8%, n = 14) and the number of patients who had normal scores of the BDI was lower in the MG than in the BPPV w/o MG (67.1% vs. 87.5%, p = 0.038). Conclusion: Clinicians are advised to inquire about migraine when evaluating patients with BPPV because it may lead to more intricate and severe clinical presentation. Introduction: Residency training may lead to the development of depressive conditions with possible academic and professional consequences. We determined the levels of depression in resident medical doctors (RMDs) and assess the factors influencing depression. Methods: This prospective cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted on RMDs working in tertiary research hospital in İstanbul. Participation in the study was voluntary. A questionnaire was distributed to the RMDs participating in the study, and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) was used to measure depression levels. This study was presented as a paper at the 5th Eurasian Congress on Emergency Medicine and 12th Turkish Emergency Medicine Congress, November 10-13, 2016 (Antalya, Turkey). Results: A total of 161 RMDs were included in the study (participation rate: 68.8%). Of the RMDs, 65 (40.4%) had depressive symptoms (BDI-II >13). An exploratory analysis of possible risk factors showed that working night shifts, length of residency, and department in which the resident worked were factors for the development of depressive symptoms. There was no association between BDI-II scores and age, gender, marital status, number of children, living alone, recent loss of a loved one, presence of chronic illness, diagnosis of depression, or use of antidepressant medication. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of depressive symptoms among RMDs, especially night workers, who have less experience in their residency. Active assessment of these RMDs to evaluate their depressive symptoms is important. Preventive measures and educational programmes to improve working conditions need to be reviewed. Introduction: Individuals with Parkinson's Disease commonly experience both physical and psychological effects, which subsequently affect their ability to perform daily activities and overall wellbeing. MusicGlove is an emerging adjunct proposed to address the motor issues but also the psychological ones with references to improving motivation and participation in individuals with Parkinson's Disease. Aim: To determine the effectiveness of the MusicGlove on hand dexterity and the psychological response in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Materials and Methods: A quasi-experimental study was performed on 40 individuals with Parkinson disease January 2021 to June 2021 from local community settings in Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu, India. They were recruited and divided into a control group (n=20) and experimental group (n=20). Hand dexterity and psychological responses were assessed using the Box and Block Test (BBT), Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), and Apathy Inventory (AI) as pre and post-test measures. Both groups received conventional occupational therapy for three weeks in total, and in addition to this, the experimental group received the MusicGlove. The control group included muscle stretching and strengthening activities with therapeutic putty and using activities such as connecting circles where the subject is given a sheet of paper with 25 circles, each containing 25 numbers or letters. They were asked to connect these in ascending, alternating numerical, and alphabetical order. Sessions were conducted for 30 minutes with two sets of repetitions. Descriptive statistics were used to examine data using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24.0. Results: The study results revealed that there was no statistically significant difference found between the groups but clinically significant differences were found between the groups with posttest scores on motor symptoms that were measured by BBT: µ=- 1.2534, p=0.211 (BBT Dominant); µ=-0.9400, p-value=0.3472 (BBT Non Dominant), and psychological symptoms that were measured by BDI; (µ=-1.0445, p-value=0.2983) and AI; (µ=- 1.0445, p-value=0.9203). Conclusion: The study concluded that conventional occupational therapy along with MusicGlove was effective in improving hand dexterity and psychological responses in Parkinson's disease patients. Introduction: Recent studies have shown a high prevalence of depression and anxiety in patients with end-stage renal disease (ERSD) and renal transplant recipients. Aim: The aim of this observational study is to asses prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms in CKD patients and post renal transplant patients. Methods: In this study 100 patients divided in 50–50 each group. Group 1 with CKD patients on dialysis and group 2 with post renal transplant patients. Each group evaluated for depression and anxiety symptoms using BDI (Beck's Depression Inventory) and STAI (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory) score which is divided into STAI-X1 and STAI-X2, respectively. Results: Our study revealed in group 1 48% patient versus group 2 34% patients present with depressive symptoms whereas in case of anxiety symptoms STAI-X1 and STAI-X2. Group 1 24% and 18% whereas group 2 34% and 28% patients, respectively. Conclusion: It is observed that depressive symptoms are more common in CKD patients on dialysis whereas anxiety symptoms observed more in patients after renal transplant. The obtained results indicate that screening tests and monitoring of the emotional state of patients with CKD are necessary, regardless of the disease stage and treatment; this includes patients after kidney transplantation. Summary: The aim of this study was to assess work productivity and activity impairments and to explore their association with excessive daytime sleepiness, body mass index (BMI), depression, and anxiety in patients with narcolepsy type 1. We carried out a cross‐sectional study in which patients with narcolepsy type 1 and matched controls for sex, age, and education were assessed for occupational features, EDS (Epworth Sleepiness Scale), BMI, depression (Beck Depression Inventory), anxiety (State–Trait Anxiety Inventory), and Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI). Different statistical approaches were used to investigate differences between groups and correlations between WPAI scores and clinical features. The 127 patients with narcolepsy type 1 (mean age 38.2 ± 15.5, 91.3% taking drugs for narcolepsy) and 131 controls (mean age of 37.4 ± 14.3) included did not differ in terms of occupational features, except for hours worked/week (29.9 in patients vs. 34.9 in controls) and officially recognised disability (30.7% vs. 5.3%). Impairment in all WPAI scores was approximately three times greater in patients. Narcolepsy was associated with work time missed in 27.4% of patients, while 93.2% to 95.5% of them had some impairment while working or during daily activities (vs. 37.5–46.8% of controls). Correlations with WPAI scores were found for excessive daytime sleepiness only in patients, and for both depression and anxiety in patients and controls, with a stronger correlation for activity impairment in patients. These results suggest that, despite treatment, narcolepsy type 1 was associated with extensive impairment especially regarding job effectiveness and daily activities. Marital burnout has not been extensively studied despite its huge consequences on family wellbeing and quality of family life. This study, using randomised-controlled trial, tested the impact of rational-emotive couple intervention on marital burnout in a sample of parents seeking a divorce. A total of 67 parents who participated during the rational-emotive couple intervention (RECI) were assessed using the marital burnout scale, Beck depression inventory, and parent rational and irrational beliefs scale. Crosstabulation, multivariate test analysis, and bivariate analysis were used to analyse the data collected. Results show a significant reduction of marital burnout in RECI group participants, and significant improvement was maintained at the follow-up stage. The result of the group and gender interaction effect shows no significant interaction effect of group and gender on participants' marital burnout at Time two and Time 3, respectively. The results indicate that a decrease in parents' irrational beliefs accounts for marital burnout among couples seeking a divorce. Marital burnout is positively associated with depression among couples seeking a divorce. This study concludes that the RECI is an effective intervention that reduces marital burnout which is a direct consequence of irrational beliefs which later metamorphose into depressive symptoms. Anxiety is a pervasive emotional state where, phenomenologically, subjects often report changes in their experience of time and space. However, a systematic and quantified examination of time and space experience in terms of a self-report scale is still missing which eventually could also be used for clinical differential diagnosis. Based on historical phenomenological literature and patients' subjective reports, we here introduce, in a first step, the Scale for Time and Space Experience of Anxiety (STEA) in a smaller sample of 19 subjects with anxiety disorders and, in a second step, validate its shorter clinical version (cSTEA) in a larger sample of 48 anxiety subjects. The main findings are (i) high convergent and divergent validity of STEA with both Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) (r = 0.7325; p < 0.001) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) (r = 0.7749; p < 0.0001), as well as with spontaneous mind wandering (MWS) (r = 0.7343; p < 0.001) and deliberate mind wandering (MWD) (r = 0.1152; p > 0.05), (ii) statistical feature selection shows 8 key items for future clinical usage (cSTEA) focusing on the experience of temporal and spatial constriction, (iii) the effects of time and space experience (i.e., for both STEA and cSTEA scores) on the level of anxiety (BAI) are mediated by the degree of spontaneous mind wandering (MWS), (iv) cSTEA allows for differentiating high levels of anxiety from the severity of comorbid depressive symptoms, and (v) significant reduction in the cSTEA scores after a therapeutic intervention (breathing therapy). Together, our study introduces a novel fully quantified and highly valid self-report instrument, the STEA, for measuring time-space experiences in anxiety. Further we develop a shorter clinical version (cSTEA) which allows assessing time space experience in a valid, quick, and simple way for diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and therapeutic monitoring of anxiety. • Anxiety is closely related to constricted time and space experiences. • The dynamic of thoughts, i.e., mind wandering, may serve as the mediator between the time and space experiences and anxiety. • cSTEA allow a valid and simple way to assess clinical phenomenology of anxiety. Background: A women's chances of getting pregnant decreases in cases of infertility, which may have several clinical etiologies. The prevalence of infertility is estimated as 10–15% worldwide. One of the causes of infertility is endometriosis, defined as the presence of an endometrial gland and/or stroma outside the uterus, inducing a chronic inflammatory reaction. Thus, infertility and endometriosis are diagnoses that significantly affect women's mental health. This study accessed and compared the levels of depression, anxiety, and quality of life in infertile women with and without endometriosis. Methods: was an observational and cross-sectional study which included 201 infertile women, 81 of whom were also diagnosed with endometriosis. The STROBE Guidelines was used. The data were collected using validated scales: Hamilton D Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory, and Fertility Quality of Life Questionnaire; The data were collected at the Ideia Fertil Institute (Santo Andre, Brazil), between February 28 and June 8, 2019. Results: the infertile women with endometriosis reported higher presence of depressive symptoms and a lower quality of life compared to women with infertility only. Similar presence of anxiety symptoms was observed regardless of being diagnosed with endometriosis. Women with infertility and endometriosis presented lower levels in quality-of-life domains when compared to women with infertility only - Mind and Body (58.33 × 79.17, p < 0.001), Relational (75 × 81.25, p = 0.009), Social (66.67 × 77.08, p = 0.001), Emotional (50.62 × 67.43, p < 0.001). Conclusion: the findings indicate the need for increased psychosocial support care for women suffering from infertility and endometriosis to assist them in maintaining and managing their own mental health and achieving their reproductive goals. Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the hypothesis test results after categorizing the scale scores with cut-off points and to assess whether similar results would be obtained in that best represent the categories. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between March 15 and 20, 2023 via the Lime Survey. The questionnaire included questions about the sociodemographic and life characteristics of the participants and the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II). Four groups (minimal, mild, moderate, severe depression) were formed using the cutoff points. Data analysis was performed with all participants and referred to as the conventional analysis group. Then, six subanalysis groups were determined to best represent the groups formed according to the BDI-II. In each BDI-II category, six subanalysis groups were created, including those between Q1–Q3 (IQR group), including those within ± 1 std, including those between 5p–95p (90% of the sample), including those between 2.5p–97.5p (95% of the sample). In addition, 100 different samples were randomly selected containing 50% of each group. Results: Of the 1950 participants, 84.7% (n = 1652) were female and 15.3% (n = 298) were male. In terms of depression, it was observed that the significance varied in the analysis groups for sex (p = 0.039), medication use (p = 0.009) and age (p = 0.010) variables. However, these variables were not significant in some of the subanalysis groups. On the other hand, a p < 0.001 value was obtained for income, physical activity, health perception, body shape perception, life satisfaction, and quality of life variables in terms of depression in the conventional analysis group, and it was seen that the significance continued in all subanalysis groups. Conclusions: Our findings showed that variables with p < 0.001 in the conventional analysis group maintained their significance in the other analysis groups. In addition, as the p value got closer to 0.05, we observed that the significance changed according to different cutoff points in the analysis groups. In addition, 50% randomly selected samples support these results. At the end of our study, we reached results that support the necessity of secondary tests in the evaluation of scales. Objective: Patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (TN) live in constant fear of triggering shock-like pain episodes, which may cause symptoms of depression and a reduction in quality of life. Microvascular decompressive surgery has been demonstrated to achieve satisfactory and stable results. With this study, we wanted to investigate prevalence and risk factors for depression and perceived stress in correlation with symptom relief after surgical treatment. Methods: In this prospective study, patients undergoing microvascular decompression (MVD) for TN were included. The Barrow Neurological Institute Pain Score (BNI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire (CPAQ), Perceived Stress Questionnaire (PSQ) and McGill questionnaire were used to evaluate depression, stress and anxiety disorders before and 3 months after MVD. Results: A total of 35 patients (16 male (46%)) with a mean age of 55.4 (SD 15) years were included in this study. The BDI revealed that 24 (68.8%) patients harbored mild-to-extreme depression preoperatively (2.4 ± 1.4), which improved to 1.2 (±0.6, p < 0.0001). Pain acceptance also changed from 64 (±11.3) to 67.7 (±9.3, p = 0.006). Perceived stress decreased from 46.9 (±21.9) to 19.6 (±18.6) (p < 0.0001) postoperatively, and pain decreased from 31.0 (±11.7) to 9.4 (±12.9, p < 0.0001). Microvascular decompression reduced the mean BNI pain score significantly from 4.6 to 1.8 postoperatively (p < 0.00001). Conclusions: Depression and perceived stress are prevalent in patients with idiopathic TN. Adequate treatment not only provides a high rate of satisfaction through pain relief, but also leads to immediate and significant improvements in depression and stress. Thus, in patients with TN who do not reach an adequate and timely pain reduction through medical management and develop signs of depression, early treatment with microvascular decompression should be considered. Background: We aimed to determine whether patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) have sexual dysfunction compared to age-matched healthy controls. Methods: Utilizing online COMPASS-31 to evaluate dysautonomia symptom severity, Beck's Depression Inventory Second Edition (BDII), Female Sexual Function (FSF), and International Index of Erection Function (IIEF) questionnaires, we compared sexual function scores in patients with POTS to scores obtained from sex- and age-matched healthy controls via a cross-sectional case–control study. Results: A total of 160 women with POTS, mean age 30.2 ± 7.9 (range 21–50 years), had lower FSF scores than 62 healthy age-matched female controls. IIEF scores in 29 male patients with POTS with a mean age of 30.1 ± 6.0 (range 21–47) were significantly lower than in 27 healthy age-matched male controls. Female POTS patients had significantly lower scores in the sub-domains of desire, arousal, and satisfaction, while male POTS patients had significantly lower scores in erectile and orgasmic function, desire, and satisfaction than healthy controls. Predictive factors of sexual dysfunction were depression in women and age in men. The severity of autonomic symptoms correlated with sexual dysfunction in women, but this effect disappeared after controlling for depression. Conclusions: Compared to healthy controls, women and men with POTS have significant sexual dysfunction, which needs to be considered in the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches as part of comprehensive patient care. Suicidal ideation is a major concern in clinical practice. Yet, little is known about prevalence rates of suicidal ideation in patients undergoing outpatient psychotherapeutic treatment. Therefore, the aim of the current study is to assess the prevalence of suicidal ideation in a large sample of psychotherapy outpatients in Germany. The data analyzed in this study is taken from the KODAP-project on the coordination of data collection and analysis at German university-based research and training outpatient clinics for psychotherapy. A total of N = 10,357 adult outpatients (64.4 % female; age: M(SD) = 35.94 (13.54), range: 18–92 years of age) starting cognitive-behavioral therapy at one of 27 outpatient clinics in Germany were included in the current study. Prevalence of suicidal ideation was assessed with the Suicide Item (Item 9) of the Beck-Depression Inventory II. Suicidal ideation was reported by 36.7 % (n = 3795) of the participants. Borderline Personality Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and recurrent Major Depression were the diagnoses most strongly associated with the presence and severity of suicidal ideation. Suicide ideation was assessed only with the respective item of the Beck Depression Inventory II. Suicidal ideation is very common among adult patients who start psychotherapy in Germany. We aimed to investigate the association between an empirical lifestyle index for hyperinsulinemia (ELIH), empirical lifestyle index for insulin resistance (ELIR), and depression and anxiety in an adult Iranian population. In this cross-sectional study, a total of 6450 participants, aged 35–65 years were recruited as part of the MASHAD cohort study. Dietary intakes were assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Depression and anxiety were screened using Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). ELIH and ELIR were calculated using dietary intake, body mass index, and physical activity information. Multivariable ordinal logistic regression models were applied to determine the association between ELIH, ELIR, and depression and anxiety severity. In a fully adjusted model, participants with the highest ELIH quartile had a higher odds of more severe depression and anxiety compared to those in the lowest category (OR = 1.44; 95 % CI = 1.22–1.71 and OR = 1.62; 95 % CI = 1.37–1.25, respectively). Participants with the highest ELIR had higher odds of more severe depression and anxiety compared to those in the lowest category (OR = 1.22; 95 % CI = 1.04–1.43 and OR = 1.21; 95 % CI = 1.03–1.42, respectively). The assessment of dietary intake and mental health by questionnaires may increases the rate of misclassification. Due to the study's cross-sectional nature, causal relationships cannot be established. Background and Objectives: Dizziness and the accompanying complaints, including sleep disorders and depression, are common among the elderly. This study investigated the effect of vestibular rehabilitation on complaints of dizziness, sleep problems, and the severity of depression in older people with chronic dizziness. Subjects and Methods: The study included 25 participants with chronic dizziness accompanied by comorbid sleep disturbance (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index [PSQI] global score >5). Participants completed the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (three sub-scales: physical, emotional, and functional), the PSQI, and the Persian version of the shortened Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-13) before and after the vestibular rehabilitation. Results: The findings showed that the handicap caused by dizziness, the severity of depression, and the quality of sleep in the study participants improved significantly after the intervention (p<0.05). Bereavement can lead to prolonged grief disorder (PGD) as well as episodes of major depression. Studies on the prevalence of PGD and its differences from postbereavement depression have not been conclusive. This study compared the correlates of depression and prolonged grief (PG) symptoms in a population‐based random sample (N = 535) using the Beck Depression Inventory, Inventory of Complicated Grief–Revised, Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI), and Adult Separation Anxiety Questionnaire (ASAQ). Correlates of PG and depressive symptoms were examined using linear regression in 328 bereaved respondents. The prevalence of probable PGD based on PGD‐2009 criteria was 3.0% among bereaved respondents and 1.9% in the total sample. PG was related to bereavement‐related features including sex of the deceased, β = −.110, p =.026; time since loss, β = −.179, p =.001; the number of lifetime losses experienced, β =.157, p =.016; and perceived closeness with the deceased, β =.214, p <.001. Only lower income of the bereaved predicted depression, β = −.139, p =.018. In women, but not in men, the loss of a male family member (i.e., brother or son) was a significant predictor of PG symptoms, β = −.180, p =.006. The results confirm the qualitative distinction between depression and PG in a nonclinical sample and show that PG is mainly related to the intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics of the deceased or of death, whereas depression relates only to the characteristics of the bereaved person. Background: Acne vulgaris (AV) is one of the common dermatologic diseases that usually affects people during adolescence. Reports have shown that isotretinoin, the first‐line therapy option for moderate‐to‐severe AV, could lead to mood disturbances and suicidality. Impulsivity is the tendency to act prematurely without foresight and is a significant risk factor for suicidality. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that isotretinoin would lead to an increase in impulsivity. Methods: Seventeen patients with AV were enrolled. The study was planned as a naturalistic 3‐month follow‐up study. Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS), Go/No‐go Task (GNG), and Balloon Analog Risk Task (BART) were administered before and after the isotretinoin treatment. Results: We found a significant improvement in the severity of anxiety (P = 0.015; t = 2.72) and depression symptoms (P = 0.08; t = 3.04) in AV patients at the end of 3 months. Self‐report impulsivity characteristics with BIS stayed unchanged (P = 0.434; t = 0.80). Besides, no statistically significant difference was found in behavioral task results associated with response inhibition with GNG (P = 0.52; t = 0.65) and impulsive decision‐making with BART (P = 0.842; t = −0.20). However, there was a significant decrease in omission errors, with GNG suggesting improvement in attention domain (P = 0.020; W = 90.0) after the follow‐up. Conclusions: It has been demonstrated that isotretinoin treatment improves the severity of depression, anxiety symptoms, and attention performance in AV patients. Substance use disorder (SUD) can have circadian characteristics and individuals with evening chronotype are more prone to addiction. In this study, the effect of chronotypes on the treatment outcomes of SUD was investigated. The study included 66 patients who were diagnosed with SUD according to DSM-5. Two clinical interviews were conducted at 6-month intervals, and remission/relapse status was evaluated at the second interview. The Structured Clinical Interview Form for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders (SCID-I), Addiction Profile Index Practitioner Form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index and Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) were applied to the patients. MEQ scores of relapsed patients were found to be different in terms of eveningness than those in remission (45.62 ± 8.70 versus 49.75 ± 7.60, p = 0.045). As the craving and addiction profile index total scores (addiction severity) increased, eveningness chronotype scores also increased (r = − 0.387 and r = − 0.286, respectively). The mean scores of craving and BDI were higher in relapsed patients compared to those in remission (p = 0.003 and p = 0.015, respectively). Our results suggest that patients with SUD had a lower morningness chronotype than the general population; additionally, more relapsed patients had an eveningness chronotype. Objectives: We report routinely collected outcome data from an 8-week outpatient rehabilitative therapy program. The aims of the intervention were to (1) reduce symptom severity and (2) improve functional mobility in adults with functional neurological disorder (FND). Methods: The program delivered individual physiotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and self-management sessions, group physiotherapy, and psychoeducation. Outcome measures included the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), Work and Social Adjustment Scale (WSAS), 10-Meter Walk Test (10MWT), Timed Up and Go (TUG), and Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Data were analyzed retrospectively in accordance with routine service evaluation. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests assessed changes in outcomes between weeks 1 and 8 for all patients completing treatment (n = 45). For patients who attended the 3-month follow-up (n = 31), Friedman's ANOVA assessed overall change in outcomes over time. Post hoc Wilcoxon signed-rank tests compared pairs of time-points (Weeks 1, 8, and 3-month follow-up). Results: Analyses of patients completing the program revealed significant improvements in scores between week 1 and week 8. Excluding the BBS, there were statistically significant improvements in all outcomes between weeks 1 and 8 and between weeks 1 and 3-month follow-up. Discussion: This outpatient therapy program provided effective treatment for FND. Background: Caring for children with intellectual disabilities presents physical and emotional challenges for mothers, who may experience increased depression as a result. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the mediating role of social health in the association between depression, lifestyle, and control over negative thoughts among mothers of children with intellectual disabilities. Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, the research population comprised mothers of children with intellectual disabilities in Tehran in 2020. A sample of 213 mothers was selected via convenience sampling according to the number of variables under investigation. Data collection tools included the Beck Depression Inventory, Thought Control Questionnaire, Lifestyle Assessment Inventory, and Social Well-being Scale. Structural equation modeling was utilized to assess the proposed model. Results: There was a significant direct and inverse relationship between control over negative thoughts and depression, as well as between social health and depression, among mothers of children with intellectual disabilities (P < 0.001). The findings indicated a significant positive relationship between control over negative thoughts and social health and between lifestyle and social health (P < 0.001). No significant relationship was found between lifestyle and depression. The study also revealed a significant indirect relationship between control over negative thoughts and depression, mediated by social health. Similarly, the association between lifestyle and depression, mediated by social health, was significant (P < 0.001). Conclusions: The model demonstrated a strong fit and can inform the creation and implementation of interventions aimed at alleviating stress and reducing depression among these mothers. Background: Although mood disorders are prevalent among systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients, they are usually underrecognized. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of anxiety and depression among Saudi SLE patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among SLE patients from July 2022 to June 2023 in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. A self-reported questionnaire was used to collect the data through validated tools including the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale-A and the Beck Depression Inventory score. Results: There were 133 females (91.7%) and 12 males (8.3%) included in this study. Based on the HAM-A score, 45.5% of participants had an anxiety disorder, and according to the BDI score, 46.2% had a depression disorder. Anxiety and depression were significantly associated with a longer duration of SLE, unemployment status, smoking, and the presence of comorbidities. Moreover, the present study found a significant association between depression and male gender. Conclusion: This study found that Saudi SLE patients have a high prevalence of both anxiety and depression. Background: The transnosographic nature of negative symptoms (NS) makes them fruitful for detecting psychiatric symptoms. The main objective of this study was to determine whether NS can be useful in screening for ultra-high risk of psychosis (UHR) or depressive symptoms in the no-help-seeking student population. The most prevalent NS and their relationship with cannabis use were also researched. Methods: From an online survey sent to students, 2128 filled out the Self-evaluation of Negative Symptoms (SNS), Prodromal Questionnaire 16 (PQ-16), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Cannabis Abuse Screening Test (CAST). Results: 367 students (17.2%, 95% CI [15.6–18.9]) were considered to have UHR (PQ-16 distress score ≥ 9) and/or depression (BDI ≥ 16). The receiver operation characteristic curve showed that a threshold of 13 for the SNS score discriminated this subgroup of students with a sensitivity and specificity of 79.8% and 70.6%, respectively. The motivational dimension was overrepresented and linked to cannabis use. Conclusions: The early detection of NS in the no-help-seeking student population is relevant for detecting depressive and prodromal symptoms. This will enable early intervention to limit the progression to chronic mental disorders. The predominance of NS linked to the amotivational dimension was observed and related to cannabis use. Background: Dermatological conditions extend beyond physical symptoms, profoundly impacting the psychological well-being of patients. This study explores the intricate relationship between depressive symptoms, quality of life (QoL), and personality traits in individuals diagnosed with specific genodermatoses. Methods: The study cohort comprised 30 patients with genodermatoses treated at the dermatology clinic, and a healthy control group. Standardized survey questionnaires: The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), and NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) were employed for assessments. Results: The findings indicate a significantly elevated risk of severely or very severely reduced QoL in the study group compared to matched controls (OR = 22.2, 95% CI: 2.7–184.8). Specifically, individuals with ichthyosis exhibited a staggering 131-fold higher risk of diminished QoL compared to the control group. Furthermore, the prevalence of depression was higher in the study group than in the control group (36.7% vs. 10%; p = 0.0086). A detailed analysis revealed that patients with low or average agreeableness exhibited a notably higher incidence of depression compared to those with high agreeableness (100% or 75% vs. 28.6%; p = 0.0400). Similarly, individuals with high levels of neuroticism had a significantly higher incidence of depression compared to those with average or low levels of neuroticism (rates: 66.7% vs. 9.1% or 0%, respectively; p = 0.0067). Conclusions: The study underscores a substantial correlation between genodermatoses and the mental health of affected individuals, underscoring the imperative consideration of psychological factors in the management of hereditary skin disorders. Background: Eye contact is a fundamental part of social interaction. In clinical studies, it has been observed that patients suffering from depression make less eye contact during interviews than healthy individuals, which could be a factor contributing to their social functioning impairments. Similarly, results from mood induction studies with healthy persons indicate that attention to the eyes diminishes as a function of sad mood. The present screen-based eye-tracking study examined whether depressive symptoms in healthy individuals are associated with reduced visual attention to other persons' direct gaze during free viewing. Methods: Gaze behavior of 44 individuals with depressive symptoms and 49 individuals with no depressive symptoms was analyzed in a free viewing task. Grouping was based on the Beck Depression Inventory using the cut-off proposed by Hautzinger et al. (2006). Participants saw pairs of faces with direct gaze showing emotional or neutral expressions. One-half of the face pairs was shown without face masks, whereas the other half was presented with face masks. Participants' dwell times and first fixation durations were analyzed. Results: In case of unmasked facial expressions, participants with depressive symptoms looked shorter at the eyes compared to individuals without symptoms across all expression conditions. No group difference in first fixation duration on the eyes of masked and unmasked faces was observed. Individuals with depressive symptoms dwelled longer on the mouth region of unmasked faces. For masked faces, no significant group differences in dwell time on the eyes were found. Moreover, when specifically examining dwell time on the eyes of faces with an emotional expression there were also no significant differences between groups. Overall, participants gazed significantly longer at the eyes in masked compared to unmasked faces. Conclusions: For faces without mask, our results suggest that depressiveness in healthy individuals goes along with less visual attention to other persons' eyes but not with less visual attention to others' faces. When factors come into play that generally amplify the attention directed to the eyes such as face masks or emotions then no relationship between depressiveness and visual attention to the eyes can be established. Anhedonia is central to several psychological disorders and a frequent target of psychosocial and pharmacological treatments. We evaluated the psychometric properties of two widely used anhedonia measures derived from the Beck Depression Inventory: a 3-item (BDI-Anh3) and a 4-item version (BDI-Anh4). We evaluated these measures in a large undergraduate sample, a community sample, and a clinical sample. Both the BDI-Anh3 and the BDI-Anh4 showed adequate internal consistency, with BDI-Anh4 performing somewhat better, across the three samples. Both measures showed good convergent and discriminant validity, even after controlling for shared variance with other items on the BDI. Background: Depression is highly prevalent and a significant cause of mortality and morbidity across the globe. Although antidepressants and/or psychotherapy are often used to treat depression, some recent studies indicate that exercise may play an important role in lowering depression symptoms among patients meeting the clinical criteria of a depressive episode. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the mental health and wellbeing of adult participants diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) after fourteen weeks of receiving a supervised physical exercise program. Methods: In a pre-post design, the assessments were performed at baseline, seven weeks and fourteen weeks following the exercise intervention program using facilitated self-reported psychometric scales. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-2) and Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation—Outcome Measure (CORE-OM) were used to assess depression. The short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used for the self-reporting of participants' physical activity. Results: At the beginning of the study, the baseline total mean scores and standard deviations for the BDI-2, CORE-OM, and IPAQ in both genders did not differ significantly (p-value > 0.05). Patients showed significant improvement in all assessment scales after completing fourteen weeks of the physical exercise program. Based on the BDI-2, the baseline score dropped from 31.25 (indicating moderate to severe depression) to 14.25 (indicating mild to minimal depression), with a p-value of <0.001. The CORE-OM total mean score was reduced from 1.91 to 0.98 with a significant p-value < 0.005 indicating effective clinical improvement in depression symptoms. The IPAQ total MET-minutes/week mean score increased from 1713.22 to 4367.62, indicating an improvement in the participants' weekly P.E. intake; however, the change was not statistically significant (p = 0.07). Conclusions: Exercise treatment is linked with considerable therapeutic improvement in patients with MDD, particularly when exercise is sustained over time. The BDI-2 and CORE-OM total scores significantly decreased after the fourteen-week P.E. programme, indicating a change from moderate and severe depression to minimal and mild depression. Our findings offer insightful information to primary care doctors and psychiatrists, indicating that prescribing exercise to depressed patients may be a helpful adjunctive therapy. The aim of this observational study was to examine the predictive and discriminant validity of patient motivation and adherence in metacognitive therapy (MCT) for depression. Motivational development for recovered- and non-recovered patients was also investigated. Motivation in sessions 1, 4, and 7 was measured using the Motivational Interviewing Skill Code 2.5 (MISC) in a 10-session trial of MCT for depression (N = 37). Adherence was assessed with the CBT compliance measure in session 7. The Beck Depression Inventory measured treatment outcome at 3-year follow-up. Recovered patients developed significantly more change talk and taking steps, and less sustain talk, as therapy progressed, compared to non-recovered patients. Evidence of the predictive validity of motivation in sessions 1 and 4 was limited. Higher sustain talk and taking steps in session 7 were significant predictors of more and less depressive symptoms, respectively. There was a moderate-strong correlation between motivation and adherence. The results confirm the predictive value of MISC in sessions 7 of MCT for depression, and establish differential motivational development between recovered and non-recovered patients. Objective • Tinnitus is one of the most common otologic symptoms and has a serious effect on the quality of life. The pathophysiology of tinnitus is not fully understood and no consensus has been reached on an effective treatment method for tinnitus. To evaluate the effectiveness of the kinesiotape (KT) method in subjective tinnitus treatment. Material and Method • KT is a method used for sensory simulation. It is a method that aims to increase muscle function, positively affect lymphatic fluid and blood circulation, and stimulate the neurological system. In this study, KT method was applied and the study was prospective. 34 individuals with subjective tinnitus, and normal hearing were included. The study group (n = 17) was informed about tinnitus and KT was applied for 4 weeks, the control group (n = 17) was only informed about tinnitus. The information about tinnitus given to both groups included verbal information about what tinnitus is, how to deal with tinnitus and basic recommendations. All individuals were initially administered tinnitus measurements (pitch, loudness, minimal masking level, residual inhibition), Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), SF-36, and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). All evaluations were repeated after 4 weeks. Results • Tinnitus loudness and pitch decreased in the KT group (P < .05). In both groups, there was a significant difference between the first and last measurements of the severity of tinnitus, the degree of discomfort from tinnitus with VAS, and the catastrophic and total scores of THI (P < .05). KT group, the emotional sub-score of THI improved significantly with KT (P < .05), and significant improvement was achieved in the BDI scores (P < .05). There was a significant difference in the SF-36 after the application of KT (P < .05). Conclusion • In subjective tinnitus, the pathophysiology of which is unknown and there is no consensus on an effective treatment method, improvement in tinnitus severity, quality of life and depression perception in both audiologic and perceptual evaluations were obtained as a result of KT application. Introduction The present study's central aim was to examine two questions: (1) Will there be differences in mental health outcomes between medics and non-medics who sought help at the Israeli Combat Reaction Unit (CRU)? (2) Will there be differences in mental health outcomes between combatants and non-combatants? Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study included files of 1,474 Israeli Defense Forces ex-service members (89% combatants, of whom 13% were medics; 11% non-combatants, of whom 6% were medics), who filled out questionnaires on admission for evaluation at the CRU. Dependent variables were mental health measures and included two PTSD measures (Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale and PTSD Checklist for DSM-5), Beck Depression Inventory, Dissociative Experience Scale, and Brief Symptom Inventory. Military profession (medics vs. non-medics) and status (combatant vs. non-combatant) were the independent variables. Background variables were also examined. Results We found no substantial differences between medics and non-medics in the mental health measures. When looking at combat and non-combat separately, the non-combat medics (CMs), in general, were in better mental health conditions than the other three groups— CMs, non-medic combatants, and non-medic non-combatants—all of whom had similar scores in the mental health measures. However, compared to the rest, non-CMs took considerably longer years before approaching the CRU. Conclusions The elapsed time to seek help for non-MCs was explained by their reluctance to seek help, not being combatants, and being medics who are portrayed as resilient. Introduction: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-pharmacological treatment for drug-resistant major depressive disorder (MDD) patients. Since the success rate of rTMS treatment is about 50%-55%, it is essential to predict the treatment outcome before starting based on electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, leading to identifying effective biomarkers and reducing the burden of health care centers. Methods: To this end, pretreatment EEG data with 19 channels in the resting state from 34 drug-resistant MDD patients were recorded. Then, all patients received 20 sessions of rTMS treatment, and a reduction of at least 50% in the total beck depression inventory (BDI-II) score before and after the rTMS treatment was defined as a reference. In the current study, effective brain connectivity features were determined by the direct directed transfer function (dDTF) method from patients' pretreatment EEG data in all frequency bands separately. Then, the brain functional connectivity patterns were modeled as graphs by the dDTF method and examined with the local graph theory indices, including degree, out-degree, in-degree, strength, outstrength, in-strength, and betweenness centrality. Results: The results indicated that the betweenness centrality index in the Fp2 node and the δ frequency band are the best biomarkers, with the highest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve value of 0.85 for predicting the rTMS treatment outcome in drug-resistant MDD patients. Conclusion: The proposed method investigated the significant biomarkers that can be used to predict the rTMS treatment outcome in drug-resistant MDD patients and help clinical decisions. Spina bifida (SB) has a significant impact on factors such as stress, depression and fatigue in mothers. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between depression and fatigue in mothers of children diagnosed with SB and the functional status of their children. The research was conducted with 75 children (53.3% girls; 46.7% boys) with SB (5.3% meningocele, 94.7% myelomeningocele) aged between 1 and 16 years (mean 6.34 ± SD 3.64) and their mothers aged between 22 and 55 years (mean 33.76 ± SD 7.06). Functional levels of the children were assessed using the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), and depression and fatigue levels of the mothers were assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory and the Fatigue Impact Scale, respectively. No significant correlation was found between maternal fatigue and depression levels and GMFCS levels in children with SB (p>0.05). However, 25.33% of the mothers had minimal, 64% mild, 8% moderate and 2.67% severe depression. It was found that 6.67% of the mothers had some, 45.33% moderate, 44% significant and 4% very significant problems with fatigue. Moderate to severe fatigue is reported by approximately 9 out of 10 parents of children with SB, whereas moderate to severe depression is reported by approximately 1 out of 10. There is still limited information about how, and to what extent, patients with Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD) feel inadequate in their daily lives. This study aims to evaluate the physical, functional, and emotional disability related to dizziness in patients diagnosed with PPPD, and to investigate the frequency of anxiety disorder, depression, and migraine. The files of patients who were diagnosed PPPD in the neurology outpatient clinic at our hospital were retrospectively reviewed. The results of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), which were implemented for treatment planning, were evaluated. Headache complaints were examined for whether they were compatible with migraine. Of the 65 patients diagnosed with Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness, 89% were female, 11% were male, and the mean age was 39. The total mean score of the DHI was 55.3. 86.1% of the patients experienced moderate or severe dizziness handicap. Moderate or severe depression was identified in 50.8% of the patients, moderate or severe anxiety in 80.8%, and migraine comorbidity in 70.8% of the patients. The majority of the patients with PPPD were in the young-middle age group and female. Depressive symptoms and aggression are common in patients with substance use disorder. Drug craving is one of the main drivers of drug-seeking behavior. This study aimed to explore the relationship between drug craving and aggression in methamphetamine use disorder (MAUD) patients with and without depressive symptoms. Totally, 613 male patients with MAUD were recruited in this study. Patients with depressive symptoms were identified by the 13-item Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-13). Drug craving and aggression were assessed by the Desires for Drug Questionnaire (DDQ) and the Buss & Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ), respectively. 374 patients (61.01%) were confirmed to meet the criteria of depressive symptoms. Patients with depressive symptoms had significantly higher DDQ and BPAQ total scores than those without depressive symptoms. DDQ desire and intention were positively correlated with verbal aggression and hostility in patients with depressive symptoms, whereas they were correlated with self-directed aggression in patients without depressive symptoms. In patients with depressive symptoms, DDQ negative reinforcement and a history of suicide attempts were independently associated with BPAQ total score. Our study suggests that male MAUD patients have a high incidence of depressive symptoms and that patients with depressive symptoms may have greater drug cravings and aggression. This study investigated the propensity for medical students to experience symptoms of depression, relative to other students, at West Bank Palestinian universities. In addition, the study evaluated the socio-demographic or academic factors that might influence this propensity. A quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted on 714 medical and non-medical students from Al-Quds and Al-Najah Universities. Data were generated through a questionnaire that included sociodemographic parameters and academic status, and measured depression using the Beck Depression Inventory. The data were analyzed using SPSS (v. 20). About a third of the sample’s medical students suffered from some form of depression. Moderate depression appeared to be relatively high among medical (18.7%) and non)medical students (25.5%). At all depression levels, there was a significantly lower prevalence of depression among medical students compared to non-medical, with the exception that the medical students suffered a higher rate of mild mood disturbances (25.1%) than the non-medical (14.6%). Furthermore, there were significant correlations (α ≤0.05) between a higher prevalence of depression and being female, lower grade point average (GPA), lower economic status, and a lack of psychological support. Other variables, such as accommodation and year of study, showed insignificant relationships with depression. Depression was highly prevalent among the students, regardless of their university or field of study, which probably reflects the high depression rates in the wider Palestinian society. Nevertheless, the lower prevalence of depression among the medical students may be attributed to the fact that higher quality students are accepted by medical schools and their level of adaptation to stress and hard work. Background: Attempts have been made to classify the patterns of polytraumatization using a person‐centered approach. However, most studies have only focused on maltreatment and interpersonal trauma and have been unable to examine various clinical symptoms. Objectives: This study aimed to explore patterns of negative life experiences, including maltreatment, lifetime trauma, and recent stressful life events, and compare diverse dimensions of the clinical manifestations among the subtypes in a clinical sample. Method: We investigated childhood maltreatment, lifetime trauma, and recent stressful events using a self‐report method in 1410 psychiatric patients; we classified the patterns of lifelong negative life experiences using latent profile analysis (LPA). We used the rates of psychiatric diagnosis, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Impact of Event Scale‐Revised (IES‐R‐K), and the Multiphasic Minnesota Personality Inventory‐2‐Restructured Form to compare various symptom dimensions among the derived subtypes. Results: LPA indicated a four‐class solution: mild, recent stress, maltreatment, and multiple adversity group. The multiple adversity group experiencing both lifetime trauma and recent stressful life events, in addition to maltreatment, including sexual abuse, had a high rate of severe mental illness and more symptom dimensions of thought and behavior problems. However, the rates of depressive disorders and emotional/internalizing symptoms were not more than those in the other two groups (recent stress and maltreatment groups) experiencing moderate levels of lifetime trauma. There was no significant difference between the recent stress and maltreatment groups for most symptom dimensions. Conclusions: The findings indicate that distinct symptom profiles may be associated with the pattern of negative experiences, suggesting that negative experiences need multidimensional investigation in clinical settings. Purpose: This study was a cross-sectional study that aimed to compare the total Landing error scoring system (LESS) scores of individuals with Patellofemoral pain (PFP) with healthy controls and assess the association of pain, function, and psychological factors with LESS score. Methods: Twenty-seven male athletes with PFP completed a standardized jump-landing task. They were compared with a matched, healthy group. Also, participants completed four questionnaires involving the visual analog scale (VAS), Anterior knee pain scale (AKPS), Tampa scale of kinesiophobia (TSK), Beck anxiety and depression inventory scale (BAI, BDI). Results: PFP group had significantly a higher total LESS score than the control group. They displayed lateral trunk flexion and less knee flexion in the initial contact of landing. Our results showed a significant strong correlation between VAS, AKPS, and TSK with a final score LESS. In addition, a low to moderate significant correlation obtained between BAI, BDI and final score LESS. Conclusions: The LESS is a useful clinical test for evaluating landing errors in people with PFP. A striking global health development over the past few decades has been the increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity. At the same time, depression has become increasingly common in almost all high-income countries. We investigated whether body weight, measured by body mass index (BMI), has a causal effect on depression symptoms in Finland. Using data drawn from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (N = 1,523, mean age 41.9, SD 5), we used linear regression to establish the relationship between BMI and depression symptoms measured by 21-item Beck's Depression Inventory. To identify causal relationships, we used the Mendelian randomization (MR) method with weighted sums of genetic markers (single nucleotide polymorphisms, SNPs) as instruments for BMI. We employ instruments (polygenic risk scores, PGSs) with varying number of SNPs that are associated with BMI to evaluate the sensitivity of our results to instrument strength. Based on linear regressions, higher BMI was associated with a higher prevalence of depression symptoms among females (b = 0.238, p = 0.000) and males (b = 0.117, p = 0.019). However, the MR results imply that the positive link applies only to females (b = 0.302, p = 0.007) but not to males (b = -0.070, p = 0.520). Poor instrument strength may explain why many previous studies that have utilized genetic instruments have been unable to identify a statistically significant link between BMI and depression-related traits. Although the number of genetic markers in the instrument had only a minor effect on the point estimates, the standard errors were much smaller when more powerful instruments were employed. Background: Nonadherence to medication contributes substantially to worse health outcomes. Especially among older adults with chronic illness, multimorbidity leads to complex medication regimes and high nonadherence rates. In previous research, depressive symptomology has been identified as a major contributor to nonadherence, and some authors hypothesize a link via motivational deficits and low self-efficacy. However, the exact mechanisms linking depressive symptomology and nonadherence are not yet understood. This is in part because the often-employed sum scores cannot do justice to the complexity of depressive symptomology; instead, it is recommended to assess the influence of individual symptoms. Methods: Following this symptom-based approach, we performed correlation, network and regression analysis using depressive symptoms as depicted by the items of the revised Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI) to assess their influence with nonadherence in N = 731 older adults with chronic neurological diseases. Nonadherence was measured with the self-report Stendal Adherence to Medication Score (SAMS). Results: Even when controlling for sociodemographic and health-related covariates, the BDI remained the most influential contributor to nonadherence. Across different methods, Loss of Interest and Difficulty with Concentration were identified as particularly influential for nonadherence, linking nonadherence with other affective or somatic BDI items, respectively. Additionally, Fatigue, Problems with Decision Making, Suicidal Thoughts, and Worthlessness contribute to nonadherence. Conclusion: Using a symptom-driven approach, we aimed to understand which depressive symptoms contribute to higher levels of nonadherence. Our results refine previous hypotheses about motivation and control beliefs by suggesting that it is not merely a lack of beliefs in the efficacy of medication that connects depressive symptoms and nonadherence, but rather an overall lack of interest in improving one's health due to feelings of worthlessness and suicidal tendencies. This lack of interest is further substantiated by already sparse resources caused by changes in concentration and fatigue. Background: It has been proposed that a greater degree of adherence to a healthy dietary pattern is associated with a lower risk of depression and a poor quality of life (QoL). The Lifelines diet score (LLDS) is a new, evidence-base scoring system to define the quality of diet. We designed a cross-sectional study to investigate the association between LLDS with depression and QoL in Iranian adolescent girls. Methods: A total of 733 female adolescents were recruited from Mashhad and Sabzevar cities, Iran. Depression and QoL were assessed utilizing the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and SF-12v2 questionnaires, respectively. The LLDS was defined by dividing intakes of 12 food groups with negative or positive health effects into quintiles ranging 12 to 60 points. To explore the association between LLDS with QoL and depression, logistic regression was used in crude and adjusted models. Results: The prevalence of depression and poor QoL was 24% and 49%, respectively. After adjusting for confounding factors, adolescent girls in the highest quartile of LLDS compared with the participants in the lowest quartile had a 42% lower probability of reporting depressive symptoms (OR: 0.58; 95% CI: 0.35–0.97, P = 0.03). In addition, the participants in the highest quartile of LLDS had lower odds of poor QoL compared with the subjects in the lowest quartile (OR: 0.65; 95% CI: 0.42–0.92, P = 0.04). Conclusions: There is an inverse relationship between LLDS with risk of depression and poor QoL. Prospective and interventional investigations are needed to reach a clear vision. Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) and vascular parkinsonism (VaP) have highly overlapping phenotypes, and different prognosis. This study comprehensively investigated the clinical, brain MRI and transcranial sonography differences between VaP and PD. Methods: Forty-eight patients with PD, 27 patients with VaP, and 29 healthy controls were compared. All patients were assessed using the MDS-UPDRS, Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Ten-Meter Walking Test (10-MWT), Time Up and Go Test, and Non-Motor Symptoms Scale. Beck Depression Inventory, PD questionnaire- 39, international urine incontinence scale, cognitive assessment scales, MRI brain and transcranial colour-coded doppler. The study was registered on clinical-Trial.gov (NCT04308135) on 03/12/2020. Results: VaP patients showed significantly older age of onset, shorter disease duration, lower drug doses and levodopa responsiveness, higher On and Off axial scores, On and Off BBS, higher On scores for PIGD, rigidity, bradykinesia and total motor MDS-UPDRS, lower On and Off tremor, lower-half predominance, lower asymmetrical presentation and symmetric index than PD patients. VaP patients had worse non-motor symptoms Scale (NMSS) than controls except for perceptual problems/hallucinations but better symptoms than PD patients except for urinary dysfunction. Quality of life (QoL) was impaired in VaP patients and was correlated with motor function and NMSs. The VaP group had significantly higher white matter lesions and brain atrophy, with lower hyperechogenicity of the substantia nigra and more impaired cerebral vascular resistance and vasoreactivity than the PD group. Conclusions: VaP has a characteristic motor and non-motor profile, with impaired QoL, white matter, and transcranial sonography abnormalities that differentiate it from PD. Aims: This systematic review and meta‐regression aimed to examine available literature reporting measures of physical function, anxiety, and/or depression and whether any relationships exist between these measures in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Methods: MEDLINE, CINAHL, AMED, and APA PsychInfo databases were systematically searched. Screening, quality assessment, and data extraction were completed alongside meta‐regression analysis. Results: Of 1175 studies retrieved, 40 were selected for analysis with only one study assessing the relationship between physical and psychological outcomes within their cohort. A total of 27 studies were also eligible for meta‐regression analysis—a total sample of 1211 participants. Meta‐regressions of five combinations of paired physical and psychological outcomes showed a significant moderating effect of symptoms of depression (Beck Depression Inventory) on mobility (Timed‐Up‐and‐Go test; coefficient = 0.37, 95% CI 0.09 to 0.65, p = 0.012) and balance (Berg Balance Score) scores (coefficient = −1.25, 95% CI −1.77 to −0.73, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Although physical and psychological outcomes of interest were used in all included studies, only one examined their relationship. Our analysis suggests that symptoms of depression may influence measures of mobility and balance. Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by both motor and non-motor symptoms (NMS). Among NMS, constipation and pain are both highly prevalent and debilitating affecting up to 80% of PD patients and impairing their quality of life. Here, we investigated the relationship between constipation and pain in PD patients. This is a retrospective study assessing the relationship between pain and constipation in a PD patient population from a clinical database of patients attending the outpatient clinic of the movement disorders division, Neurology Unit of Policlinico Tor Vergata, in Rome. Subjects were assessed with the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) part III, Hoehn and Yahr (H&Y) stage, King's Parkinson's Disease Pain Scale (KPPS), Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), Non-Motor Symptoms Scale (NMSS) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Patients were further divided in two groups (Group 1, 32 patients with constipation and Group 2, 35 PD patients without constipation) ANOVA and ANCOVA analysis were used to compare the two groups. PD patients with constipation had significantly higher pain severity and pain interference, as measured by the BPI scale and higher total KPPS score, fluctuation-related pain, nocturnal pain, and radicular pain when compared to PD patients without constipation. Background. Gratitude and religiousness/spirituality are increasingly recognized resources that have potential influence on psychological states such as depression. However, only few studies have investigated this relationship in psychiatric patients. Objective. The present study examined gratitude in psychiatric inpatients with depression, exploring its relevance, course, and interaction with psychopathological and religious measures. Both general and religious gratitude will be evaluated. Methods. A total of 212 inpatients with depression completed a questionnaire both at the beginning and the end of treatment. Gratitude was measured with a general gratitude scale using the Gratitude Questionnaire and a religion-specific measure assessing gratitude to God as part of the Structure of Religiosity Test. The Beck Depression Inventory was used to evaluate depressive symptoms. General religiosity was assessed using the Centrality of Religiosity Scale. Results. Scores on the general and religious gratitude measures were in the upper range of these scales at baseline and demonstrated a significant increase during the hospital stay. Negative associations were found between general gratitude and depressive symptoms both on admission and at discharge (r = − 0.505 and r = − 0.478 , respectively). General as well as religious gratitude was associated with the centrality of religiosity (r = 0.384 and r = 0.546 , respectively). Religiosity accounted for approximately 10% of the variance in general gratitude on admission. Conclusions. Gratitude is highly prevalent in psychiatric patients with depression, and that may serve as a resource for these individuals.
