This article describes the perceptions and experiences of collaboration between teachers of physical education (n = 3) and special educators (n = 3) on teaching pupils with disabilities. Using a qualitative approach, the study seeks to establish the nature and extent of collaboration among these teachers and to identify the benefits and barriers to implementation. Semistructured interviews were used as the main data source. Data were collected from teachers working in the public school system in the southern part of Finland. The findings indicate that while teachers are mostly aware of the value of collaboration, its implementation varies immensely among the different schools. While the special educators in this study see themselves mainly responsible for supporting pupils with disabilities, the physical education teachers showed a strong commitment to the subject matter of their teaching. Participants also reported several challenges relating to time constraints, a lack of classroom support, and a shared vision of inclusive teaching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mary Carrier serves as the Technology & Growth Specialist for the four counties of the Mohawk Valley Library System in Schenectady, New York. Prior to this position, Mary dedicated over 15 years to teaching digital literacy and technology trends at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library, a suburban public library that has over 40,000 registered patrons and 1,500 visitors per day. The community has a strong presence in youth and family programs and is a popular place for teens and children to learn, play, and create. In 2015, she began offering coding and STEM classes to children and teens at the library and in the community as outreach programs. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND METHODS RESULTS CONCLUSION Undergraduate majors in education, specifically in school health education (HE), have declined considerably in the United States. Reductions in state and federal funding for K‐12 public education and increased demands on educators to prioritize standardized academic outcomes versus focusing on the whole child encompass many factors leading to fewer qualified teachers and reduced quality of HE delivery within schools.A content analysis of over 300 HE teacher preparation programs throughout the United States was conducted from 2019 to 2020 to assess available and required curriculum for pre‐service HE teachers. Seven curriculum areas were reviewed: nutrition, physical activity (PA) and physical education (PE), HE, chronic disease management (CDM), social emotional learning and mental health (SEL/MH), drug abuse and tobacco prevention (DA/TP), and a methods course in teaching HE.Findings indicated program type influenced course offerings, with stand‐alone HE and joint HE/PE programs providing the most comprehensive curriculum. Most programs required courses in general HE, PA and PE, and nutrition. Programs were deficient in offering courses in CDM, DA/TP, and SEL/MH.This article contains recommendations to improve the quality of HE delivery in public schools, for example by ensuring that school health educators are trained in providing skills‐based HE to youth, which can assist in addressing child and youth health outcomes (eg, CDM, mental health) for the nation. Recent research has drawn attention to the culture of whiteness and Eurocentrism within post-secondary kinesiology and physical education programs. By speaking with eighteen Chinese-Canadian undergraduate students, this case study examines how Eurocentrism manifests in an undergraduate kinesiology program at a western Canadian university. We found that a subtle, yet pervasive, center–margin framework was woven throughout the teaching and research culture of the program. This binary served to legitimize Western approaches to knowing and doing health and physical activity, while marginalizing – if not excluding altogether – non-Western knowledge systems. As one possible pathway for disrupting this knowledge/power hierarchy within kinesiology, we propose building opportunities for epistemic interculturalism throughout the curriculum. We maintain that a first step towards fostering intercultural opportunities is understanding the conditions of possibility that may enable or constrain non-coercive dialogical spaces. To this end, we aspire to expose the complex and subtle everyday processes through which the hegemony of the Western tradition is reproduced, which we suggest is the most significant contribution of this paper. This study presents a comprehensive needs analysis of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses in colleges of art and design in China. By examining the perspectives of undergraduate students, graduate students, art teachers, and English teachers, the research identifies consensus and divergence in ESP needs and implementation challenges. The analysis reveals a strong demand among students for specialized English learning, with a particular emphasis on receptive and interactive skills. However, there is a widespread acknowledgement of students' difficulties across ESP skills, indicating a gap between student competencies and the professional demands, thus highlighting the need for targeted educational interventions to effectively address the difficulties. Notably, reading and writing abilities emerge as the most lacking skills. While there is unanimous recognition of the positive impact of ESP on students' professional abilities and international competitiveness, a significant disparity exists in the enthusiasm for implementing ESP courses, paticularly with resistence from English teachers. The study highlights the critical challenges in ESP teaching, with teacher qualifications identified as the most prominent issue. Interestingly, English teachers attribute difficulties primarily to teaching materials, indicating a potential lack of readiness for ESP course delivery. A gap is also observed between teachers' evaluations of student abilities and students' self-assessment, especially among undergraduate freshmen, suggesting an overestimation of their English proficiency in professional contexts. The paper concludes with the implication that for effective ESP course implementation in colleges of art and design in China, targeted faculty development programs and a collaborative approach involving English teachers, art teachers, and professionals are essential. The collaboration should aim to develop materials that integrate specific professional knowledge with linguistic expertise. Additionally, a balanced approach combining general English proficiency and specialized English training is recommended to address both foundational and specialized language skills. Overall, the study underscores the need for targeted ESP courses in art and design education, tailored to bridge the gap between current proficiency levels and professional language requirements. This qualitative study examines how elementary school teachers teach the notion of home in the curriculum, centring on the ‘All About Me’ and ‘Where We Live’ units. This study also illustrates how the notion of home presented through teaching practices can marginalise children, particularly those who are experiencing homelessness. Through teachers’ reflections on their teaching practices, this study examines the gap between the normalised depiction of home in the school curriculum and children’s diverse living situations. This study focuses on five first-grade teachers in different school districts who are enrolled in a graduate programme. The data were collected through an online survey and individual semi-structured interviews. The data reveal that the teachers tended to teach home as physical housing in a fixed location in the ‘All About Me’ and ‘Where We Live’ units. The limited notion of home in the curriculum unintentionally marginalised children experiencing homelessness. Abstract–In recent years, there has been an explosion in the growth of undergraduate statistics and data science programs across the US. Simultaneously, there has been clear guidance written on curriculum development for both data science (De Veaux et al. 2017) and statistics (Carver et al. 2016) programs. While this was occurring, ABET (now simply an acronym, but previously standing for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), in coordination with organizations such as the American Statistical Association, developed accreditation criteria for Data Science programs. In this manuscript, we discuss our journey through ABET accreditation and discuss how adopting ABET processes for continuous improvement strengthens a program’s assessment process. We share best practices for working across multiple departments to collect data not only on individual courses, but also on the program as a whole. While the framework presented was initially established to support ABET accreditation, we argue that a properly executed program assessment should occur regardless of whether or not an institution is seeking ABET accreditation for their data science program. Throughout this manuscript, we also discuss the extent to which ABET requirements naturally fit within our program’s existing goals, including an assessment of how ABET requirements align with major ideas in the field of data science education. \nHighlightsThe study investigates marine engineering education on ship mechatronics systems regarding the new technologies in the maritime transportation industry. A new course plan about mechatronics is proposed for maritime education which lasts 14 weeks and 3 hours per week by benchmarking the global maritime colleges and respecting the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). Competences at the STCW amendments for the people who work on ships are considered while preparing the courses. Each course is paired with basic and advanced training competencies of the STCW amendments, compliance with the STCW is provided, the course topics are explained, and the duration of the courses is determined. The need for updating the curriculum and the training of future marine engineers is crucial for satisfying their ability to operate new ships. This paper reports on findings from a survey conducted within a larger collaborative project, working with primary school teachers and parents to normalise conversations about LGBTQ+ issues in four English primary schools. Survey data from 96 teachers and parents highlight different perspectives on the inclusion of LGBTQ+ issues. Existing research shows teachers are often reluctant to address such issues, signalling various concerns, including fear of a negative parental reaction. Using quantitative analysis of Likert items combined with a qualitative analysis of open-ended comments, the study shows differences in perceptions between teachers and parents, and among participating parents. The findings show teachers are willing to address LGBTQ+ issues within the primary school curriculum with support from the majority of parents. Parental opposition to teaching about LGBTQ+ issues appears to be associated with some parents’ religious views and limited engagement with members of the LGBTQ+ community. Parents’ concerns largely focused on notions of childhood innocence and perceptions of age-appropriateness for teaching about/engagement with LGBTQ+ issues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In early childhood education (ECE), global policy discourses influence national policy frameworks for curriculum, pedagogy and assessment practices. Although aspects of these discourses travel across national boundaries via policy borrowing, we argue that consideration is needed of the cultural–historical evolution of country‐level systems, their epistemological foundations and different goals or aspirations. We combine a cultural–historical perspective with critical policy text analysis to examine two curricular frameworks—England's Early Years Foundation Stage and Aotearoa New Zealand's Te Whāriki. Both nations share similar historical influences and timeframe for the development of ECE policies from the 1990s, but with different local responses, principles and values. Three questions about curriculum inform our policy text analysis: how are children are positioned and understood; what knowledge is valued and what outcomes are valued? The analysis indicates similar influences and discourses, but with dissimilar responses to these questions and distinctive ways of understanding curriculum in each country. We argue that although global discourses promote generic policy drivers and goals, country‐level policy responses need to be understood genealogically and locally in relation to cultures, contexts and values. Taking a global–local approach to policy analysis also raises critical questions about the opportunities and limitations of policy borrowing across international contexts and the importance of contextualisation. Situated in the curriculum space created by the recent enhancements to First Nations content is the opportunity for teachers to better connect with First Nations perspectives. Using constructivist theory methodology and drawing on two studies, a small qualitative school-based study of teachers who teach in the early years of schooling, and a large-scale study of professional development across two Australian states, the paper explores teachers’ preparedness to teach First Nations content. The tenets of critical literacy frame the discussion and are positioned as reflective tools that can be used to support the ‘settler teacher’ in self-reflection. Audio-recorded transcripts of planning sessions, a teacher survey, comments from feedback forms and researcher memos form the data sets. Findings from the study necessitate discursive practices for the development of teacher knowledge, dispositions, and confidence, and highlight the imperative for teacher critical self-reflection. Regulatory/accreditation agencies consider it vital to assure a certain level of quality. Other stakeholders may perceive the accreditation process as a negative experience, draining resources, and efforts. Although accreditation may improve the program’s governance and administration, its direct or indirect impact on students must be further investigated. This study explores the relationship between the occurrence of accreditation site visits and student satisfaction rates at Avalon University School of Medicine.A comparison study was conducted with retrospective satisfaction data from two accreditation cycles at AUSOM. We used the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) student surveys for data collection, and data from 2017, 2019, and 2022 were used. The response rate was 70% (n = 71), 72% (n = 47), and 60% (n = 56) for basic science students and 80% (n = 111), 82% (n = 115), and 70% (n = 76) for clinical students in 2017, 2019, and 2022, respectively. The survey for basic sciences students included 37 questions/items, and the survey for clinical students included 39 questions/items. The responses for the questionnaire were on the five-point Likert scale. The retrospective data were evaluated using the unpaired Wilcoxon-rank sum test.The ratings for the basic science students’ survey increased from 2017 to 2019 (first accreditation cycle) only for 11 items/questions and they were increased from 2019 to 2022 for all items/questions. The ratings for clinical science students’ surveys increased from 2017 to 2019 (the first accreditation cycle) for all items/questions with a statistically significant p-value. They increased for 28 questions/items from 2019 to 2022, and two items (availability and adequacy of career counseling) showed statistically significant p-values.The pre-accreditation preparation and the self-evaluation process while correcting the program’s deficiencies are essential triggers for the quality improvement process associated with accreditation. In France, the social consequences of industrial development have long been questioned, but technological disasters of the last decades of the twentieth century led to a rethinking of Western ways of life and production. Engineering education has faced the challenge of taking these considerations into account via the humanities and social sciences (HSS) curricula, including themes ranging from work organizations to science and technology in society. Taking a sociohistorical approach, this article describes the apolitical stance of the integration of HSS into French engineering education. Following a problematization within the framework of curriculum sociology, the first part presents the sociohistorical context of French engineering education, with a particular focus on HSS. The second part highlights the difficulties of recognizing the scientific and critical nature of HSS in the larger engineering educational system. The article then presents the results of a review of current HSS curricula as posted on school websites, which reveals a pattern that HSS are taught in an apolitical stance, based in corporate themes rather than questioning the social order or science and technology in society. Finnish and Chinese teacher education have gained worldwide attention because of their pupils’ significant achievements in international assessments. Focusing on the manifestations of teacher competencies in the respective teacher education frameworks, this article compares Finnish and Chinese teacher education and their curricular traditions. The mixed-method analysis of the two national frameworks draws attention to significant differences and similarities. Due to particular cultural contexts, while the Chinese Framework emphasises ethics, student management, and assessment competencies, Finnish teacher education focuses comparatively more on adaptive teaching, innovation, and partnering. The competencies of subject matters, pedagogy and subject didactics, teaching technologies, communication, multidisciplinarity, reflection and inquiry, and professional development are emphasised in both countries. This article provides insights into manifestations of teacher competencies in the context of hybrid curriculum traditions in Finland and China through adapting and applying an international framework, offering alternative perspectives on quality teacher education beyond Anglo-American approaches. Objectives: This study aimed to highlight the utility of a new certificate program in Total Worker Health® (TWH) designed for health professionals in other community health settings (OCHS). Methods: Stakeholder needs assessment, priority setting, and comparison with existing core competencies in TWH approaches were performed to identify learning objectives and curricular threads in alignment with adult learning principles. Faculty-student pairings were conducted for content and assessment development. Results: A free six-module training course that prepares OCHS professionals to collaborate with occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals. Conclusions: TWH can be advanced through collaboration between OSH and OCHS professionals. In service of shared ground, OCHS professionals should articulate the influence of work on health, TWH principles, and OSH vocabulary and concepts. In this essay Brian R. Sevier, Joanna Bruno, Karol Gates, Stephanie Hartman, Mary Ellen Pittman, Vince Puzick, Phyllis Reed, and Beverly Reimer describe their effort at the Colorado Department of Education to recruit and engage educators in authoring free and open-source curriculum samples for preK-12 academic content areas. The story of Colorado's Sample Curriculum Project illuminates how this team navigated constraints to foreground teachers as intellectual professionals who were ready and willing to use their knowledge and experience in deliberative and collaborative community. It also reveals the intransigency of perspectives that downplay the significance of teacher knowledge and collaboration. Highlighting both the possibilities that materialize when teachers engage, create, and collaborate and the persistent doubters of those possibilities, the authors argue for opportunities for professional expression that undermine reductive perspectives of teachers and their capabilities. Sex and fertility education is essential to enable people to make informed choices. School is an important source of education, so we examined the current curriculum relating to sex and fertility education in England and compared it with students' accounts of their experiences. We analysed the Awarding Body GCSE science and biology specifications (for 14–16 year-olds) and the A-level biology specifications (for 16–18 year-olds), as these related to relationships, sexuality and fertility. An online survey was conducted with 221 16–17 year-old school students to evaluate their views about their sex and fertility education. We found significant variation between the specifications of the Awarding Bodies at both GCSE and A level. Most of the specifications specify sexually transmitted infections (STIs), hormonal aspects of reproduction and contraception. In the school survey, students indicated that topics such as puberty, contraception and STIs were more likely to be learnt in school. However, topics such as endometriosis, menopause and miscarriage were more likely to be learnt outside school. While there is a strong body of literature documenting various challenges qualitative researchers face with vulnerable populations in the Global North, there is a dearth of research on the ethical dilemmas arising with institutionalized populations in post-authoritarian and post-socialist contexts in the Global South, or Global East. This article sheds light on the methodological challenges and ethical dilemmas emerging in qualitative research with orphanage youth and incarcerated women in Ukraine. The following dilemmas are discussed: methodological relevance, methodological credibility and reliability, methodological flexibility, constrained freedom and limited privacy, perceived researcher identity as a burden, and complicated reciprocity. These reflections on the dilemmas and lessons learned are informed by the author's qualitative research conducted in Ukraine between 2010 and 2019. They serve to guide budding scholars and graduate students who often times feel unprepared in their graduate studies to conduct emotionally intense research with vulnerable populations. This paper proposes a method for finding the shortest path of a mobile robot using deep reinforcement learning with utilizing Proximal policy optimization algorithm (PPO) enhanced with curriculum learning. By modelling the environment in 3D space using the Webots simulator, we extend the PPO algorithm's capabilities to handle continuous states from 8 IR sensors and control the velocities of two motors of E-puck robot. Our study uniquely integrates curriculum learning into the PPO framework, aiming to improve adaptability and training efficiency in complex environments. A comparative analysis is conducted between the modified PPO, the original PPO, and the deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm, highlighting the strengths of our approach The results demonstrate that our curriculum-augmented PPO algorithm not only accelerates the training process but also shows superior adaptability and generalization in new environments. This work underscores the significant potential of curriculum learning in enhancing the performance of deep reinforcement learning algorithms for robust and efficient robotic navigation. Background and Objectives Psychoeducation interventions using distance learning modalities to engage caregivers in active learning environments have demonstrated benefits in enhancing caregiving mastery. However, few of these programs have been specifically adapted to develop mastery in Black caregivers. Research Design and Methods A multimethod approach was carried out to assess Caregiving While Black (CWB), including pre–post surveys and in-depth interviews. This psychoeducation course addresses the cultural realities of caring for a person living with dementia as a Black American. Caregivers engaged in online asynchronous education related to healthcare navigation, home life management, and self-care. Primary (caregiving mastery) and secondary outcomes (anxiety, depression, perceived stress, burden, perceived ability to manage behavioral and psychological symptoms) were assessed at baseline and post-course (10 weeks). Results Thirty-two Black caregivers from across the United States completed the course within the allotted time frame. Paired sample t test analyses revealed significant reductions in caregiver burden and role strain. Caregiver mastery from baseline to completion increased by 0.45 points with an effect size of 0.26 (Cohen's d). Twenty-nine caregivers participated in an optional post-course interview, and thematic analysis led to the construction of 5 overarching themes: Comfortability with a Culturally Tailored Course ; Experiences Navigating the Course Platform ; Utility of Course Resources ; Time as a Barrier and Facilitator ; Familial and Community Engagement. Discussion and Implications Pilot findings convey a need to continue creating and receiving feedback on culturally tailored psychoeducation programs for dementia caregivers. Phenomenon: Intersex, trans, and Two-Spirit people report overwhelmingly negative experiences with health care providers, including having to educate their providers, delaying, foregoing, and discontinuing care due to discrimination and being denied care. Medical education is a critical site of intervention for improving the health and health care experiences of these patients. Medical research studies, clinical guidelines, textbooks, and medical education generally, assumes that patients will be white, endosex, and cisgender; gender and sex concepts are also frequently misused. Approach: We developed and piloted an audit framework and associated tools to assess the quantity and quality of medical education related to gender and sex concepts, as well as physician training and preparedness to meet the needs of intersex, trans, and Two-Spirit patients. We piloted our framework and tools at a single Canadian medical school, the University of British Columbia, focused on their undergraduate MD program. We were interested in assessing the extent to which endosexnormativity, cisnormativity, transnormativity, and the coloniality of gender were informing the curriculum. In this paper, we detail our audit development process, including the role of advisory committees, student focus groups, and expert consultation interviews. We also detail the 3-pronged audit method, and include full-length versions of the student survey, faculty survey, and purpose-built audit question list. Findings: We reflect on the strengths, limits, and challenges of our audit, to inform the uptake and adaptation of this approach by other institutions. We detail our strategy for managing the volume of curricular content, discuss the role of expertise, identify a section of the student survey that needs to be reworked, and look ahead to the vital task of curricular reform and recommendations implementation. Insights: Our findings suggest that curricular audits focused on these populations are lacking but imperative for improving the health of all patients. We detail how enhancing curriculum in these areas, including by adding content about intersex, trans, and Two-Spirit people, and by using gender and sex concepts more accurately, precisely and inclusively, is in line with the CanMEDS competencies, the Medical Council of Canada's Objectives for the Qualifying Examinations, many institutions' stated values of equity, inclusion and diversity, and physicians' ethical, legal and professional obligations. This paper aims to raise questions about the role that cultural capital might have to play in English schooling. With the term being used by both the Department for Education and the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted, the English schools' inspectorate) as a means of describing certain key characteristics of a school's curriculum, the authors of this paper consider what the term actually now means in this educational context. To ground this consideration in a real‐world context, we present some data from a 2‐year study, which evaluated an intervention programme for disadvantaged young people in one English local authority. One aspect of this programme was the development of cultural capital for disadvantaged young people, and in the course of the evaluation a number of teachers were interviewed about how they saw this role and what cultural capital meant to them. As we explore in the paper, while English policymakers' and regulators' views of cultural capital are both narrow and perhaps, in some senses, deviate from both traditional and contemporary definitions of the term, teachers take a much richer and more flexible approach to the idea. Purpose: Education is widely recognized as a key domain for the promotion of the sustainable development goals (SDGs), prompting an increased focus on sustainable development in foreign language education. Despite increased attention, guidelines about SDGs are often primarily policy-based without concrete guidance, and the integration of education for sustainable development (ESD) within higher education curricula has been slow. This paper aims to mitigate this gap by providing an outline for the curriculum development for three elective English courses integrating SDG themes. Design/methodology/approach: The paper begins by introducing the SDGs, ESD and its application to language education. From there, this paper outlines three content and language integrated learning courses that integrate global issues into their curriculum. Finally, there is a discussion and consideration of various factors to consider when implementing global issues into an English language classroom. Findings: Following practical examples of how to integrate global issues into an English language classroom, considerations such as socio-cultural context, teaching context and the expertise of the instructor are discussed. Originality/value: This paper covers a variety of social topics related to sustainable development in addition to the often addressed environmental topics. US-amerikanische Modellierungen solch professionellen Könnens unterscheiden sich grundsätzlich von deutschsprachigen. Im Betrag wird dies anhand zweier historischer Persönlichkeiten näher ausgeführt: Am Reformpädagogen Martin Wagenschein (1896–1988) und am US-Amerikaner John F. This paper describes the past, present, and future of medical education in Cambodia. Although doctor training began in 1902, the first medical school was not founded until 1946. Since the colonial era, the curriculum and teaching strategies have been strongly influenced by the French system, dominated by didactic lectures and the apprenticeship model. Three chronic issues have plagued medical education in the country following the Khmer Rouge regime: a shortage of doctors, poor-quality training, and lack of relevance to the current and future population needs. An increasing number of medical schools and yearly student enrollment have addressed the first issue. Today, the fundamental challenges have shifted from quantity to ensuring the quality and relevance of medical education. Competency-based medical education (CBME) has been adopted as a new curricular model to tackle the latter two issues. Active collaboration between government institutions, public universities, and development partners drives this curricular reform at the national and institutional levels. This editorial introduces the new editorial team and vision of the Teaching and Learning of Evaluation (T&L) Section. With deep expertise in evaluation theory, methodology, and practice, Schröter and Woodland bring a vision of advancing the pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy of evaluation through innovative practices and inclusivity. This note outlines the section's focus on systematically examining T&L in evaluation, showcasing articles that inform instructional innovations, curriculum development, and educational research. The editors invite contributions from diverse perspectives, encompassing formal and informal settings, transdisciplinary boundaries, and various dimensions of T&L environments in evaluation. Highlighting recent articles aligned with the section's goals, the editors invite feedback and involvement from readers and contributors to further enhance the T&L section's impact. As they embark on this journey, Schröter and Woodland express their commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to advancing evaluation through transformative T&L practices. Aims: The aims of this study were to: (1) explore perspectives of university students' and academics' regarding disordered eating, eating disorders and body image in relation to pedagogy and curricula and (2) to evaluate a co‐designed student seminar and an academic workshop on these topics. Methods: A participatory action research approach was employed whereby an educational intervention was co‐created by academics and students. An online seminar was presented to students and a 1‐h workshop was presented to academic staff. Evaluation was conducted via a post‐seminar anonymous survey for students and a pre‐ and post‐anonymous workshop survey for academics with a mix of Likert‐scale questions and open text boxes. Qualitative data were open coded, both deductively and inductively, and quantitative data were analysed descriptively. Results: One hundred and seventeen students attended the voluntary education seminar. Six themes were identified from student qualitative data which included feeling safe, empowered, inspired, connected, emotional and reflective. Problematic aspects of pedagogy and curricula were identified by students and included: using personal data for teaching, demonising language to describe food/bodies and not always feeling safe or supported to discuss disordered eating. Twenty academics shared divergent perspectives—some reported feeling concerned and challenged by the content (exploring disordered eating with students), others noted the complexity of the area, and others reported low/moderate confidence or indifference in the space and felt this content outside of their scope as educators. Conclusion: Curricula interventions that reduce triggering and shaming and increase space and support for strengthening students' relationships with food and their bodies are valued by nutrition and dietetics students. BACKGROUND: Transitioning into oncology practice can be challenging for new graduate RNs. High patient acuity, a steep learning curve, psychosocial challenges, and frequent patient deaths can be overwhelming. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this program was to provide resilience training for new graduate oncology nurses as part of an existing nurse residency program. Building resilience among oncology nurses was a primary goal during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to be an important goal. METHODS: Resilience training in this program consisted of didactic lectures, personalized goal setting, one-on-one mentoring, and a follow-up support group. Various measurement scales were used at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months to assess resilience, professional quality of life, and new graduate experience measures, including communication and organizational skills. FINDINGS: Resilience significantly declined from baseline to six months; professional quality of life and new graduate experience measures also worsened. Some improvements in organizational skills and communication emerged at 12 months. Results indicate an ongoing need to consider extending nurse residency programs, resilience training, and support beyond the traditional oneyear period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the established need for sexuality and relationship programming for autistic adults, there are extremely limited curricula for this population. This pilot study used an evidence-based sexuality and relationship education program for autistic adolescents (Tackling Teenage Training) as the basis for an adult-focused virtual psychoeducational group. Qualitative feedback, quantitative ratings of the programming, and behavioral surveys from participants were collected. Nine participants completed the program, and corresponding pre and post measures. Highly rated topics, for example gender identity and online dating, were consistent with previous research on what autistic adults want from a sexuality and relationship education program. Future programming should incorporate increased attention to themes and topics highlighted by participants, and should utilize the teaching tools (e.g., role play, peer discussions) identified as useful by the participants. PEERS® for Young Adults is an evidence-based program aimed at teaching social skills needed to establish and maintain close relationships, including friendship and romantic relationships. The study investigated the effects of the Polish adaptation of the curriculum on the social functioning of adults on the autism spectrum. Fifteen young adults (aged 18–32, M = 23.5) were randomly allocated to an immediate or delayed (control) treatment condition. By self and parent report, individuals who participated in the PEERS® program showed significant improvements in social skills, social cognition, and social knowledge, but limited gains in social engagement. The effects were maintained over six months after the treatment. The intervention was well-accepted and deemed feasible by young adults, their parents, and peers involved in the program. Assessment is often described as the tail that wags the curriculum dog. Curriculum has featured more prominently than assessment in Irish scholarship. Drawing on relevant policy documents and interviews with senior National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) and State Examinations Commission (SEC) officers, and relevant documentation, the author attempts to redress this imbalance. The Irish curriculum/ assessment relationship was characterised by strict Department of Education control for some sixty years. The education partners became involved during the 1980s, culminating in the establishment of the statutory NCCA in 2002. Meanwhile, the Department of Education's Examinations Branch was replaced by the statutory SEC. Issues arising from these developments and from the changing external environment are considered, including: increased NCCA/SEC collaboration; the evolution of curriculum culture including the shift from subject syllabuses (focused on subject content), to curriculum specifications (focusing on learning outcomes); assessment criteria; content and performance standards; marking schemes and assessment grids; pre-ordained grade boundaries and the use of attainment referencing to maintain standards from year to year. The discussion considers the pros and cons of learning outcomes, the impact of high-stakes examinations on student learning, and the role of the teacher as professional in the assessment of students for national certification. Higher education is facing increasing calls to engage in a process of intellectual decolonisation. This process necessitates that we take time to consider both the content of our curriculum and the pedagogic practices used to facilitate its understanding. Drawing on discussions of both intellectual decolonisation and its underpinning principles of epistemic justice, I consider the implications of these ideas for the threshold concept framework. These implications are likely to relate to both the identification of potential future threshold concepts and the experience of engaging with them. As threshold scholars, we may need to reconsider our ideas about who the experts are within a discipline or practice in our efforts to identify candidate threshold concepts and consider alternative sources of evidence in support of this. In addition, we need to reflect on how the learning experiences that arise as a result of encounters with thresholds that have emerged as a result of the privileging of knowledge and ways of knowing from the 'global north' might serve as a source of epistemic trouble to learners from the 'global south'. Such learning experiences are likely to be highly emotive and represent a significant source of troublesome learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neoliberal practices such as managerialism and academic casualisation impact higher education systems globally. While these practices can constrain any curriculum aimed at enabling transformative learning, this paper shows that they place particular limitations on arts and humanities curricula intent on cultivating criticality and a sense of social responsibility. I draw on data from an English literature curriculum study at a mega distance education institution in South Africa and use Legitimation Code Theory to take a close-up look at how two neoliberal practices: managerialism and academic casualisation cause misalignments between the underpinning values of the curriculum and the kinds of pedagogic and formative assessment practices that are employed. I conclude that decisions regarding administration, enrolments and staffing based on neoliberal values can frustrate students' epistemological and ontological access to humanities disciplines and limit the potential of humanities curricula to offer a higher education in service of the social good. Chinese higher education policy texts appear to suggest that training 'para-diplomats' is a goal of China's international student recruitment. However, few studies have considered the ways such policies are recontextualised and implemented at the institutional (meso-) level and become integral to students' career pathways after graduation. To address this paucity, I purposefully selected two Chinese higher education institutions (HEIs) and undertook an ethnographic study to explore their policy work of translation. Basil Bernstein's notions of classification and framing are employed here to nuance the mechanisms by which hidden messages were deliberately sent out by case-study institutions in everyday practices and processes. The findings reveal that routine aspects of university life, including visual cues, events and activities, and interactions between teachers and students, differed in their strengths of classification and framing, which either expanded or limited the range of career pathways that international students could envisage or progress to. This study offers a valuable contribution to the literature on higher education policy 'implementation studies', especially in the Chinese context, adding to our understandings about the powerful influence of the hidden curriculum on international students' career choice. The implications of China's experiences are discussed in terms of the role played by HEIs in the nexus of shaping graduates' career choice and enhancing the national soft power. The foundation of scientific research is solving a problem. As reflective thinking and problem-solving are closely related, teaching scientific research may have an impact on reflective thinking. The aim of this study is to investigate how the scientific process skills (SPS) and reflective thinking skills towards problem-solving (RTSPS) of gifted students change in a scientific research methods program used during a summer school. This article reports on a case study of 38 gifted students (aged 10-11) who participated in a summer school. Both qualitative and quantitative tools were used to determine the impact of the program. Focus group interviews were conducted both before and after the program as a means of qualitative data collection. Quantitative data collection tools such as the SPS scale and the RTSPS scale were used before and after the program. The analysis showed that the students' SPS levels were low at the beginning and improved as the program progressed. Initially, the students showed good RTSPS in quantitative data, but were found to be deficient in qualitative data. By the end of the program, RTSPS had improved. In conclusion, this study has shown that summer schools for gifted students are effective in developing RTSPS and SPS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
