Background: Dengue is spreading in (sub)tropical areas, and half of the global population is at risk. The macroeconomic impact of dengue extends beyond healthcare costs. This study evaluated the impact of dengue on gross domestic product (GDP) based on approaches tailored to two dengue-endemic countries, Thailand and Brazil, from the tourism and workforce perspectives, respectively. Findings: Because the tourism industry is a critical economic sector for Thailand, lost tourism revenues were estimated to analyze the impact of a dengue outbreak. An input-output model estimated that the direct effects (on international tourism) and indirect effects (on suppliers) of dengue on tourism reduced overall GDP by 1.43 billion US dollars (USD) (0.26%) in the outbreak year 2019. The induced effect (reduced employee income/spending) reduced Thailand's GDP by 375 million USD (0.07%). Overall, lost tourism revenues reduced Thailand's GDP by an estimated 1.81 billion USD (0.33%) in 2019 (3% of annual tourism revenue). An inoperability input-output model was used to analyze the effect of workforce absenteeism on GDP due to a dengue outbreak in Brazil. This model calculates the number of lost workdays associated with ambulatory and hospitalized dengue. Input was collected from state-level epidemiological and economic data for 2019. An estimated 22.4 million workdays were lost in the employed population; 39% associated with the informal sector. Lost workdays due to dengue reduced Brazil's GDP by 876 million USD (0.05%). Conclusions: The economic costs of dengue outbreaks far surpass the direct medical costs. Dengue reduces overall GDP and inflicts national economic losses. With a high proportion of the population lacking formal employment in both countries and low income being a barrier to seeking care, dengue also poses an equity challenge. A combination of public health measures, like vector control and vaccination, against dengue is recommended to mitigate the broader economic impact of dengue. Dengue also impacted Brazil's workforce in 2019, leading to an estimated 22.4 million lost workdays, of which 39% were associated with the informal sector, and reducing GDP overall by US$876 million (0.05% of total GDP). Informal workers are vulnerable to dengue-related financial burdens, and a low income can be a barrier to seeking medical care for dengue. This article investigates instances in which mobility justice is highlighted in post-disaster tourism in eastern Tohoku, Japan, a coastal area almost completely destroyed by the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami. After this unprecedented disaster, some of these towns have directed their recovery efforts toward the development of post-disaster tourism as a means to counteract outmigration and loss of jobs. By using the broader frame of mobility justice in tourism and geographies of affect, this article seeks to showcase how affective relations between people and post-disaster places, and between international tourists and locals, can foster a better understanding of the big and small injustices enacted at different scales in the area. In particular, this article focuses on the potential of 'recognition justice' to rebalance the scale between top-down policies and local needs. Post-disaster tourism performances utilize the mobility of information through global media, spreading survivors' narratives, stories, and images. A politics of affect built around landmarks in the post-disaster landscape the tsunami has contributed to the creation of immobile nodes, which become locus of contestations and opportunities to leverage mobility justice and broader recognition justice for the local populations. The 2022 Monkeypox Disease (MPOX) outbreak was declared a pandemic after detecting multiple human-to-human monkeypox cases in 'non-endemic' nations. The index case of MPOX has been reported in Nepal. Also, the disease burden in neighboring countries and international travel and tourism could increase the MPOX burden in Nepal. This study recruited 443 study participants between August 25 and September 10, 2022, using the snowball technique and using descriptive statistics to assess the awareness and knowledge of MPOX. Approximately 82% (n=361) of the study participants were young adults aged between 18-29 years and were undergoing or holders of tertiary education degrees (72.2%, n=320). Our findings showed that 76.5% (n=339/443) of the respondents were aware of the 2022 MPOX outbreak and obtained information about the disease from their local radio and television stations (20.6%, n = 70), as well as from other sources such as social media platforms (70.5%, n=239), and other internet sources (61.6%, n=209). The mean knowledge score of the respondents was 3.95±1.26, with a range of 0.5 to 7. Approximately three-quarters (72.3%, n=245) of the study participants were graded to have a good knowledge of the MPOX. Of the listed symptoms, study participants correctly identified high fever (62.2%, n=339), rashes (51.0%, n=173), swollen lymph nodes (34.5%, n=117), and sores around the mouth, vagina, and anus (26.8%, n=91). A higher number of participants were aware that vaccination could confer protection against the disease (70.8%, n=240). However, less than one third of the participants (30%, n=102) were aware that safe sex practices can be a preventive strategy against the disease. Finally, none of the sociodemographic variables were associated with increased knowledge of MPOX among the study participants. The knowledge of MPOX among the study population was above average. Storytelling can be an effective strategy in shaping destination image and personality. Nevertheless, little research has examined the effect of this construct on destination image, destination personality, tourist attitudes and their behavioural intention. Based on a survey of 146 international tourists, the current study examines these relationships within the context of Iran. The results showed that storytelling has positive impacts on destination image, destination personality, and tourists' behavioural intention. Storytelling also affects the destination image, destination personality and behavioural intention of men and women, and women reported higher scores than men. The findings provide significant insights into the potential role of storytelling as a destination marketing strategy, especially for destinations that may potentially previously been perceived negatively in some markets. This study examines the potential benefits of cooperation among Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries in achieving common goals within the international tourism cooperation network. Despite its significance, limited research has been conducted on this topic in terms of economic and spatial insights. To address this gap, we utilized the gravity model, social network, and quadratic regression. The revealed findings suggest that while the intermediary function among BRI countries is declining, the tourism cooperation network is gradually strengthening. Furthermore, reducing the gap between the governance and consumption levels of BRI countries can improve the network. Gastronomic tourism is a developed research stream in tourism studies. Previous literature, however, has mainly shed light either on the micro-context of food itself or on meso-contexts such as heritage and regional food sourcing. Given this situation, previous research has called for examining this aspect of food tourism, aptly named the 'cultural turn' in food tourism. This paper adds to extant theoretical conversations by studying popular international gastronomic tourism videos. As the world becomes increasingly globalized and cultural products suffuse across borders, travellers, particularly those from the Global North, sample and judge local cuisine and this incurs reactions from onlookers. Watched by millions of people, vlogs provide a virtual immersive socio-cultural experience to a tourist site. In this regard, this article asks the following research question: how does the Global North-South divide manifest in vlogged gastronomic tours and what responses do such phenomena provoke among international audiences? Using the approaches of textual analysis, content analysis and sentiment analysis, this study explores the afore-mentioned research question using the canvas of nine gastronomic vlogging tours as played out on YouTube. The authors analyse the most popular food vlogs of all time and use a gamut of more than three hours of video (with more than 215 million views) and more than 128,000 comments. The results show how vlogs may provide authentic cultural experiences and how the Global North-South divide is ameliorated through vlogging gastronomic tours. The question is important not only helpful for guiding destination marketers and tourism service providers about the multifaceted aspects of a destination, but also for understanding how particular social phenomena can foster connections among different peoples. The tourism industry sustains the economies of many nations across the globe through contributing to the Gross Domestic Products (GDP); creation of employment and infrastructure development. However, its sustainability is vulnerable to various temporal and spatial environmental, socio-economic and political events. In the Zimbabwe case, the politico-economic crises of the 2000s and the COVID-19 pandemic have variedly impacted on the prevalence of tourism with the actors (such as employees, tourists and recreational facility owners) involved in this industry having been seriously impacted. Using the precarity conceptual framework, this article critically analyses the impact of the politico-economic crises induced by the Fast Track Land Reform Programme of the early 2000s and the COVID-19 pandemic on the actors involved in tourism. Information regarding the impact of the political crises and COVID-19 pandemic on tourism in Kariba town is missing in the literature, yet Kariba is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa. The article discusses the precarity of these tourism actors in the context of the politico-economic crises as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. We define 'precarity' as a condition of vulnerability and uncertainty. Our results indicate that for employees, these factors have resulted in uncertainty in the tourism business with some shutting down and others scaling down their operations resulting in redundancy and vulnerability of the workers. For tourists, the successive lockdowns and surge in COVID-19 cases in Zimbabwe resulted in (re)booking and (re)cancellation of bookings; the politico-economic crises resulted in fear among the potential clients and a drop in the number of international tourists. The recreational and accommodation service operators have had the challenge of making food (and other resources) orders for trips that are eventually cancelled due to the surge in the COVID-19 cases. While terrorism brings fear and chaos, tourism is the epitome of peace and happiness. Sri Lanka has always attracted international tourists due to tropical climate and beautiful tourist destinations. However, terrorism and the recent debt crisis have led to chaos and economic failure; in this study, the impact of terrorism, external debt, and military expenditure on international tourism in Sri Lanka have been empirically studied to unravel the dynamics. Dynamic ARDL simulation and cumulative fourier frequency causality results highlight the presence of an inverted N‐shaped association between terrorism and tourism, as well as external debt and tourism. This paper aims to add to the debate on the negative externalities of tourism-related megaprojects. It examines the policy adoption and implementation of two contentious airport projects in two tourist-heavy regions, Heraklion (Kastelli), Greece, and Cusco (Chinchero), Peru. In the context of destination competitiveness and commitment to neoliberal economic growth, national and regional governments in both countries became attracted by the idea of regional economic development and further increasing the number of international tourists and tourism investments. Deciding whether building a new airport serves the public interest or not is a complex policy problem with technical uncertainties and conflicting interests, which entails both a technical and political process of expressing and pairing policy actors' goals and means. The aim of the paper is to identify similarities and differences between the tactics adopted and arguments used for and against the two airport development projects by the respective advocacy coalitions. The popular Spanish fiction series Money Heist has been seen in more than 190 countries and has won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama. In 41 episodes over five seasons, a group of thieves dressed in red overalls and concealing their faces behind Salvador Dalí masks break into the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain with the intention of carrying out an ambitious heist at each location. There are almost no product placements of reallife tourist attractions in the narrative structure of the series. This article discusses whether certain symbolic constructs identified in Money Heist could act as tourism inducers in the same way as the placement of real-life locations, a practice explored extensively in recent research. This study finds a considerable increase in tourist numbers to the Royal Mint of Spain that coincided with a massive rise in searches on YouTube for identifying elements of the series and a significant correlation between those elements and Spanish tourist destinations on Instagram. As an emerging economy, Turkey has experienced a significant structural transformation in the last twenty years. Within this period, Turkey has increased to the eleventh rank for international tourist arrivals in the world (UNWTO 2023). However, in recent years, there has been a rapid depreciation of the national currency, raising the question of how this affects the tourism trade. Using bilateral data and considering non-linearities, we investigate the exchange rate-tourism balance nexus for Turkey and its most tourist sender partners by applying ARDL and NARDL modelling. We find that (i) when the Turkish Lira (TL) appreciates, the tourism balance is positively affected in the German and UK models in the short-run and in the Russian and Netherlands models in the long-run; (ii) the depreciation of the TL, on the other hand, has a positive effect on the tourism balances for France and the UK in the short-run. Therefore, either the increase or decrease in the exchange rate (except for Russia in the short-run) affects the tourism balance insignificantly or positively. These findings imply that policymakers should focus more on country-specific tourism policies to attract more tourists to the country rather than on exchange rate policies to manage the tourism balance. A tourist's cultural construction of nature can shape their nature sports experience. It can also impact how they perceive the destinations where they engage in nature sports. This ethnography identifies how international tourists on a surfing trip in Australia draw on their cultural knowledge of nature to assign meaning to their experiences and surroundings. The nature sports experience is influenced by three types of cultural knowledge applied to nature: declarative, evaluative, and procedural. Interaction with nature activates that knowledge. Theoretical contributions include offering a comprehensive explanation for how cultural knowledge of nature can transform the nature sports experience and providing a more complete picture of how cultural knowledge impacts the tourist's interpretation of a destination. Until the end of WW2, the Margaret River region (MRR) was a popular domestic destination based on cave explorations. A series of incremental innovations between the 1950s and 1990s reconfigured the destination into a thriving international tourism destination that offers diverse experiences based on wine, surf, and nature. Nonetheless, contemporary external and internal forces are stimulating another shift – one towards sustainability. Apart from the global pro-sustainability agenda, this sustainability transition in tourism is mainly driven by two emerging niches: eco-accreditation and grassroots organisations. This paper adopts the multilevel perspective (MLP) – a commonly adopted framework in the sustainability transitions research field – and combines it with a typology of tourism innovation to examine the evolution of the MRR as a tourist destination. The paper addresses the ongoing sustainability transition in the MRR and discusses both top-down and bottom-up initiatives that stimulate it. In order to provide a holistic view of this transition, the paper also pays attention to the first transition in the destination (i.e. from caves to wine, surf, and nature), and examines its influence on the ongoing sustainability transition. This study examined the effects of public infrastructural development and industrialization on economic complexity in Africa, and how industrialization is moderating the effect of public infrastructural development on economic complexity. The study adopted the pooled ordinary least squares, the dynamic system generalized method of moments and the dynamic bias‐corrected least squares dummy variable estimators with a panel of 34 African economies over the period 2010–2021. The findings revealed that public infrastructural development and industrialization contribute positively and significantly toward enhancing economic complexity in Africa. We also found that industrialization substantially moderates and enhances the influence of public infrastructural development on economic complexity. Furthermore, the results show that trade openness, foreign direct investment inflow, international tourism arrival and institutional quality are potent factors enhancing Africa's economic complexity, while the role of human capital remains muted. These findings suggest that African leaders and policy‐makers can foster economic complexity across the continent by embracing policies that prioritize increased infrastructural development, industrialization, trade openness and foreign direct investment inflow while improving the quality of institutions within the region. Reopening countries also carries the risk of another wave of infections in many parts of the world, raising the question of whether we are ready to reopen our countries. This study examines the impact of reopening countries to receive foreign tourists on the spread of COVID-19 in 2022, encompassing 83 countries worldwide. We employ spatial quantile models capable of analyzing the spatial impact of tourism on the spread of the virus at different quantile levels. The research categorizes countries into three groups: low infection rate (10th-30th quantiles), moderate infection rate (40th-60th quantiles), and high infection rate (70th-90th quantiles). This allows for a more comprehensive and detailed comparison of the impacts. Additionally, considering the spatial dimension enables the explanation of both the direct and indirect effects of tourists on the country itself and neighboring countries. The findings reveal that the number of international tourists has a significant effect on the COVID-19 infection rate, particularly in countries with high initial infection rates. However, countries that effectively controlled their infection rates at a low level could maintain a low infection rate even after reopening to foreign tourists. It is also observed that reopening a country's borders negatively impacts the infection rate of neighboring countries. These important findings imply that governments of highly infected countries should shift their focus towards bolstering their economy by promoting domestic tourism and should delay reopening until the number of infections decreases. This study examines whether price and income elasticities in international tourism demand can be asymmetric depending on the direction of change. We consider Fiji as a reference destination with the following source markets: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the USA. A sample from 1978 to 2018 is considered. Symmetric price and income elasticities are found for Australia and New Zealand. Asymmetric price and symmetric income elasticities are found for Canada and Japan. Price and income asymmetries are found for the UK and USA. The implication for research on tourism demand is that linear models may be miss-specified and that better predictions of tourism demand may result from the nonlinear models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: International medical travel or medical tourism is not a new phenomenon in many countries, including among Indonesians. Indonesia is reported as a major source of patients from the lower, middle, to upper classes for its neighbouring countries. This scoping review aims to synthesise evidence on supporting factors for Indonesians taking medical tourism and what needs to be improved in Indonesia's health system. Methods: We conducted a scoping review guided by a framework provided by Arksey and O'Malley. We systematically searched existing literature from 5 databases, including MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and Wiley. Data were extracted based on study details, study design, characteristics of participants and results. Analysis followed the three-stage procedure outlined by Thomas and Harden: (1) coding the text line by line, interpreting the data and identifying concepts or themes; (2) developing descriptive themes by grouping similar concepts in theme and subtheme and (3) generating analytical themes by reviewing preliminary themes and discussing the addition or revision of themes. Results: A total of 25 articles were included in this review. The review highlights a broad range of facilitators for medical tourism among Indonesians: (i) availability of health services, medical specialities, and person-centred care, (ii) region adjacency, transport, and health agency, (iii) affordability of medical treatment, (iv) religious and socio-cultural factors, and (v) reasons patients reported distrust in Indonesian doctors. Conclusion: The findings indicate improvements in the Indonesian health system are necessary if the increasing rates of international medical tourism by Indonesian people are to change. Addressing the factors identified in this scoping review through avenues including policy may increase people's satisfaction and trust towards health care and treatment in Indonesia, thereby reducing the number of Indonesian people taking medical tourism. Scholarly debates about the 'difficult heritage' associated with National Socialism typically rest with the preservation, memorialization or eradication of the visible remains of the Third Reich. Heritage, though, is more than a tangible place or object. It is also a process of social and cultural engagement where acts of remembrance (or concealment) reflect contemporary politics and social values. The tension between a distinct sense of historical place and the present-day reality of a voided landscape is illustrated keenly through a case study of Adolf Hitler's Berlin Führerbunker. Despite being physically absent from today's cityscape, Hitler's bunker has long generated both concern about the potential for becoming a neo-Nazi pilgrimage site, and curiosity among international tourists, keen to see where the Nazi dictator met his end. Tracing tourist activity since 1945, and exploring recurring efforts to contain, destroy or expose the site, this article posits that the Führerbunker has become an effective countermemorial, its very absence from the contemporary cityscape sparking public discussions among visitors and fostering a critical, grassroots reflection upon the challenges of handling legacies of dictatorship. Background and Purpose: With the rapid development of tourism, language plays a significant role in influencing a tourist's decisions when planning their trip, especially if they do not speak the language of the destination. Given the critical nature of information in the tourism industry, translating tourism materials for international tourists becomes essential. However, there has been limited bibliometric review on the issue. Thus, this bibliometric review aims to comprehend the existing literature and provide a visualized profile for various themes by analyzing hotspots, emerging trends, and the evolution of tourism translation studies. Methodology: A bibliometric review was conducted using the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The review utilized CiteSpace software to generate a scientific knowledge map and visually analyzed 2764 research articles on tourism translation published in CNKI over the past 21 years (from 2002 to 2023). The analysis encompassed time, author, and institution mapping, keyword clustering, and the identification of emerging words. Findings: The findings indicated that the study of tourism translation had sparked researchers' enthusiasm, resulting in a general increase in the number of articles. Furthermore, various theoretical frameworks, including Skopos theory, Translation Aesthetics theory, and Adaptation theory, have been extensively analyzed in tourism texts. Although significant progress has been made in the exploration of translation strategies, there is still considerable room for advancement in terms of research methodology and perspective. Contributions: This bibliometric review contributes to the advancement of knowledge in tourism translation, helps shape future research directions, and offers practical guidance for industry professionals, researchers, and policymakers involved in the tourism sector. This study examines the moderating effect of social globalization on the relationship between international tourism and economic growth using a dataset of 143 economies from 1995 to 2017. Social globalization is broadly defined as the sharing of cultures and beliefs which facilitates the flow of ideas and knowledge. Our results show that social globalization affects economic growth directly and indirectly through enhancing international tourism. However, we find that the direct effect of international tourism on growth is not statistically significant for developing economies. On the other hand, tourism-dependent developing economies can benefit from growth as social globalization increases. This implies that policymakers can promote growth by developing institutions and infrastructure to enhance social globalization, such as implementing visa-free travel and the construction of international airports, to enhance the growth-gains from international tourism. Background The wellbeing and safety of international tourists is a paramount concern for governments and stakeholders. Mortality among travellers and the causes of death serve as a significant metric of destination safety. We describe the epidemiology and causes of death among international travellers in Peru. Methods Data retrieved from the Peruvian government's deaths certificates registry included all non-residents who died between January 2017 and December 2021. We analysed the national incidence and causes of death among international travellers in Peru. Causes of death were classified into non-communicable diseases (NCD), communicable diseases and injuries. We classified fatalities according to the existence of preventive measures that could be provided during the travel medicine consultation to decrease the risk. Results We obtained records from 1514 deaths among international travellers (973 males, 64%). The incidence increased from 0.2 deaths per 10 000 travellers in 2017 to 9.9 in 2021. NCDs were the most common causes of death (n  = 560, 37%), followed by communicable diseases (n  = 487, 32%), and injuries (n  = 321, 21%). Causes of death were unknown in 9.7% of the records. The leading causes of death in these categories were cancer, cardiovascular disease, COVID-19 and trauma. We found similar sex distribution of NCDs in travellers aged >50 years and higher rates of communicable diseases among males across all ages. Injury-associated deaths were significantly higher among males aged 18–29 years (P  < 0.001) compared with other sex-age groups. We estimated that for 57.7% of deaths risk could have been decreased through pre-travel advice. Conclusion Rates of deaths among travellers to Peru increased over time. Most deaths were due to NCDs, followed by communicable diseases and injuries. Pre-travel medical optimization and effective advice focused on age-sex and destination specific risks could reduce risk among travellers. Increased awareness among travel medicine practitioners and improvement of emergency medical response systems in Peru could decrease mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Given the increasing popularity of gastronomy tourism in emerging destinations, this study aims to develop and validate a scale that captures the image of local cuisine from domestic and international tourists' perspectives. The present study follows three sequential phases of the scale development procedure: qualitative inquiry, scale refinement, and validation. The image dimensions i.e., physical well-being, culinary heritage, sensory appeal, gastronomic offerings, and affective image were tested using independent samples. In the calibration and validation sample, the five underlying dimensions showed support for a higher-order structure of scale related to image of local cuisine. As one of the most ancient and attractive tourism destinations in the Middle East and South Asia, Iran seeks to maximize its competitive identity to compete more effectively at international level. This study examines the major factors influencing Iran's competitive identity as a tourism destination from a supply-side perspective. The paper is divided into two phases using qualitative and quantitative techniques. First, we determined Iran's major competitiveness factors using thematic content analysis. Second, we examined the relationships between the identified factors, Iran's competitive identity, and its international tourism market development. Tourism harms the environment in many ways and agriculture is of particular importance because of a wide range of negative impacts, the specific spatial conditionality of tourists' consumption, and the change in their eating habits during travel. Despite the urgency of previous research, the environmental requirements of tourist consumption have not yet been quantified. The main aim of the paper is thus quantify in the long term the total amount of food consumed in international tourism and assess its environmental impacts: land use, water requirements, and emitted emissions. Furthermore, we deal with the projection of these impacts associated with meat consumption up to 2050. The investigation uses long-term secondary data on the number of tourists, national diets, and environmental requirements of foodstuffs. According to our research, 15.6 million tonnes of food was consumed globally in 2010 and this amount increased to 24.5 in 2019. Due to COVID-19, the amount decreased by 72%. Although vegetal foodstuffs account for a larger share of the total, the environmental requirements are primarily associated with animal foodstuffs. Compared to daily at-home eating, tourists' consumption patterns, e.g., higher preference for meat or whole grains, increase the environmental requirements by more than 10%. This research serves destination management bodies and concludes that the food environmental impacts should be the subject of adequate measures that would mitigate them and would make tourism more sustainable. The COVID-19 crisis has been one of the most significant events in recent history. Informal traders who depend on a thriving tourist market have been especially vulnerable to COVID-19. The resultant travel bans affected South Africa's tourism-related informal economic activities. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the pandemic on informal traders' livelihoods and resilience in Cape Town, South Africa. Tourists have always constituted a large proportion of informal traders' customer base. They are often willing and able to spend more than locals. The impact of travel bans on traders' income, profit margins, and livelihoods has been disastrous. However, many traders have shown commendable resilience. There were obviously limits to the effectiveness of their mitigating strategies. There is an urgent need (from a social justice and a pure economic perspective) for further relief and assistance to supplement street traders' efforts to survive as international tourism recovers. The study aims to assess the involvement of international tourism organisations in including sustainable development goals (SDGs) from Agenda 2030 in their declarations, aims and reporting goal achievement. The sample covered all organisations (72500) included in the database of the Union of International Associations (UIA). Textual analysis, in particular, content analysis of the UIA website and the websites of investigated organisations, was conducted. Ninety per cent of active organisations include SDGs in their declarations. There were no statistically significant correlations found between the declared goals and organisation type and other features. The main concerns for nations worldwide in accomplishing long-term development goals are avoiding the adverse effects of climate change, lowering emissions, and enhancing environmental sustainability. This study examines the effects of 53 nations' use of renewable energy, trade openness, global tourism, and innovation on carbon emissions from 1990–2019 by using FMOLS, DOLS, GMMSystem estimator. The results demonstrate that renewable energy, trade openness, and innovation reduce emissions, whereas global travel increase environmental degradation. The findings have major policy implications for adopting trade openness policies to enhance environmental quality. Innovation that enhances the environment's quality for both country groups may be a remarkable discovery for the authorities. Agrotourism in Vietnam has been identified as one of the strategies used to achieve green growth and countryside modernisation, and it is often included as part of the national and local agenda. In this paper, we examine agrotourism in a village in the periphery of Hội An city (an international tourism hub in central Vietnam) to question tourism's interaction with ongoing development processes. More specifically, we aim to understand the impact of fast peri‐urbanisation on agrotourism and the impacts of agrotourism on people's daily lives, specifically when it comes to physical changes in their living environment, tensions in their social life and their concerns about the future. Our analysis is supported with data generated from interviews with farmers, local officials, tourism workers and tourists. We find that agrotourism products lacked authenticity and farming was not of great interest for tourists, yet the state's investment in the village tended to favour spaces and infrastructure that could attract more tourists and generate profit, to the detriment of cultural infrastructure. Land speculation and an unequal distribution of income were the main tensions in the village along with farmers' concerns about their rural heritage, income diversification and environmental quality. As such, agrotourism in the village has been driven by rapid urbanisation and mass tourism, creating a competition between a consumption activity and a productive activity. The Margaret River region (Western Australia) is a popular international tourism destination. Since its emergence in the late 19th century, tourism in the Margaret River region (MRR) has interacted with a number of regional industries including timber, dairy, and wine. These interactions have changed from 'supportive' to 'competing' reflecting various changes in the market and the availability of common local assets such as forest, land, and public funding. While timber and dairy had an important influence on the evolution of tourism in the region, it was the emergence of wine that shifted tourism the most. Using selected concepts of evolutionary economic geography (EEG), mainly path-dependence, path-reformation, interpath relations, and triggering events, this paper demonstrates how tourism has interacted with different other industries and how these interactions have shaped the MRR as a wine-tourist destination. The paper shows how two related triggering events contributed to the emergence of wine-tourism as a new path in the region – a process referred to as 'path-blending'. In this respect, the paper provides empirical evidence that triggering events can result in multiple new paths and can also significantly shape the relations between new and existing regional paths. As such, the paper responds to the call for breaking away with the 'single-path view' in research on industrial evolution, and for more attention to the various relations between tourism and other sectors within a tourist destination. This study aimed to determine the impact of tourism on environmental pollution and test the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis for the Turkish economy based on data from 1975--2018 in cubic form by observing the impacts of tourism indicators on the environment. We analyzed the correlations among per-capita ecological footprint, international tourist arrivals, per capita GDP, the social globalization index, and urbanization rate using the ARDL limit test. Based on our research, we have found evidence that during the study period, there is an N-shaped correlation between tourist arrivals and ecological footprint in the Turkish economy. This contradicts the idea of an inverted U-shaped Kuznets curve for both the short- and long-term. Our findings reveal that domestic and national policies to fight against pollution need to be developed rather than wasting time by waiting for the end of the relationship between tourist arrivals and environmental pollution after a certain milestone. Relevance and creativity are two key textual aspects to consider when promotional material is translated and particularly in the context of tourism. In the first case, relevance as a pragmatic principle helps ensure texts travel through different lands and audiences, posing challenges to translators, or language-andculture experts, who use their expertise to opt for some content material or for format changes. Likewise, creativity is a highly demanded skill, given the nature of the process of (trans)creating advertising texts, especially audiovisual and multimedia ones, and considering the persuasive dimension of the process that takes place for these texts to cross cultural frontiers. Acanthamoebae spp. is considered highly adaptive. The present study aims to establish the occurrence of free-living amoebae, particularly Acanthamoebae, to exist in extreme environments such as volcanic mud springs. Fifty surface water samples were collected from mud springs (34 samples), and flat rocks (16 samples) were collected, processed, and cultured. After 14 days of incubation, 32 (64%) plates showed positive amoebic growth. Nineteen (55.8%) of these plates came from the mud spring collection site, while 13 (81.2%) samples are from flat rock sources. DNAs from positive samples were made to react to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using primer sets JDP1 50GGCCCAGATCGTTTACCGTGAA-30 and JDP2 50TCTCACAAGCTGCTAGGGAGTCA-30 for cells that resemble Acanthamoebae. Sequencing and basic local alignment search tool (BLAST) revealed a 99% similarity of isolates to Acanthamoebae spp. Identification of Acanthamoebae spp that can survive in higher temperatures is important public health information. The existence of such isolates in the environment has dire health implications, which suggests revisitation of water treatment protocols. Detection of such organisms in environmental sources used for recreational purposes provides information to local and international tourists who frequent them. This study investigates the interrelations within the international tourism field related to education and medical sectors by analysing the connections between foreign students, foreign medical students, international tourism and international health tourism, globally and in the case of Turkey. Descriptive and comparative analyses show that these tourism niches grow internationally based on the significant role of globalization and technological development. In Turkey, the numbers of foreign students and foreign medical students are on a highly increasing trend followed by the increasing size of health tourism. Moreover, the analysis of official statistics data for all 81 provinces of Turkey during the period 2013-2021 indicates that foreign students may have a great impact on international tourism. The employment of anthropomorphism in promotion has witnessed a notable surge in recent times, surpassing prevous levels in the hospitality and tourism sectors. This research examines the development of anthropomorphism in hospitality and tourism over the past 13 years between 2010 and 2023, showcasing recent research themes, methods, national, international, interdisciplinary, or multidisciplinary alliances, and prominent anthropomorphism researchers and institutes in the hospitality and tourism field. One hundred and twenty-five research papers were published for hospitality and tourism in anthropomorphism. The research reveals that this topic is exponentially growing. This is the first study to provide a bibliometric analysis followed by content analysis of anthropomorphism research in the hospitality and tourism research niche, with theoretical and practical contributions. The findings of cluster analysis reveal several futuristic themes, such as machine learning, robotics, etc., which marketers can focus on for building resilient strategies in the long run. Wars between nations have taken on a new dimension with the imposition of political and economic sanctions. Unlike the First and Second World Wars, as portrayed by political figures, the Third World War attempts to neutralize each other through economic sanctions. In the past few decades, the tourism and hospitality sector has not only witnessed significant growth but also contributed tremendously to economic progress with lease inputs. This fastest-growing sector creates a number of environmental challenges, especially in emerging markets where the carbon footprint of tourism constitutes a large share of CO2 emissions. This study explores the effect of international tourism, renewable energy consumption (REN), and eco-friendly technology on CO2 emissions in emerging markets. The AMG, Driscoll-Kraay and Prais-Winsten regression confirm the adverse effects of international tourism on the environment, whereas technological innovation and REN mitigate CO2 emissions. Furthermore, economic growth and population increase CO2 emissions, while foreign direct investment (FDI) reduces CO2 emissions. Although the direct effect of technological innovation is insignificant, the indirect impact is negative and statistically significant; confirming the moderating effect of eco-friendly technology on the relationship between international tourism and CO2 emissions. The MMQR results suggest that REN reduces CO2 emissions across all quantiles. On the other hand, technological innovation significantly reduces CO2 emissions in lower and median quantiles, whereas international tourism and economic growth reduce CO2 emissions across all quantiles. Porto has undergone significant economic and social changes in recent decades, closely intertwined with the evolution of its tourism sector. This research examines the vulnerabilities brought to light by the COVID-19 pandemic of this tourist city and tracks the resultant changes. We conducted an analysis of a set of variables focusing on the changes that have occurred during two distinct periods: during and post COVID-19. The data are analysed through longitudinal, comparative, and spatial approaches. The findings indicate the high exposure of Porto's tourism sector to international demand. Currently, the tourism sector growth exceeds 2019 levels and the challenges related to tourism development and its impact on local communities persist. Despite efforts to diversify tourism, the overall landscape seems largely unchanged from the pre-pandemic scenario. The vulnerabilities highlighted during the pandemic should guide the development towards a more sustainable future. Northeast Brazil is a region with great international tourist potential. Among the states that make up this region, Paraíba stands out due to the presence of vulnerable groups and factors that contribute to adverse outcomes of COVID-19. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the epidemiological data on the incidence, mortality, and case fatality of COVID-19 in Paraíba. An ecological, population-based study was performed, with data extracted from the Brazilian Ministry of Health database. All cases and deaths from COVID-19 from March 2020 to December 2022 were included. The time series was built by applying the Prais–Winsten regression model, and the daily percent change was calculated to analyze the trends. The highest case fatality of the entire period was in April 2020 (7.8%), but in March 2021, the state broke the dismal record of 1248 deaths and the highest mortality rate (30.5 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants). Stationary mortality and case fatality were better in 2022; however, in February 2022, the mortality rate was at levels similar to the same month of the previous year. The Latin American Integration Route (RILA), also known as the Bioceanic Route, is an initiative with the potential to promote the development of the Brazil-Paraguay border zone. The creators of RILA aim, since the creation of the proposal in 2006 (which would be made official in 2015), to boost logistic activities, with the goal to increasing exports of commodities (grains, ores and meat) and, secondly, to boost regional tourism activity. In this sense, this article aims to analyze the potential and obstacles that involve the governance of tourism at the border between Brazil and Paraguay, specifically between the twin cities of Porto Murtinho (BR) and Carmelo Peralta (PY). Regarding the methodology, the present work configures a qualitative research, based on bibliographical and documentary approach, under an interdisciplinary perspective, anchored in the references of Tourism and Political Geography. The theoretical-empirical results correspond to the conceptual delimitation of what configures the governance of tourism in international border territories and the organization of the institutional matrix that will support the understanding of the organization of tourism and its governance in the researched territory. Short-term study abroad (STSA) programs are one of the most dynamic segments of international educational travel and tourism. Our study utilizes experiential learning theory (ELT) to investigate and compare the scope and depth of students' encounters during STSA tours across four different global travel destinations (the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Vietnam, and the United States of America). Through an analysis of the learning journals of 116 undergraduate students who participated in these international study tours, we identify the types of experiences that students engage in during their STSA programs. Then we investigate which experiences are perceived to be more meaningful and to facilitate student learning. Last, we analyze these experiences across four different global destinations to explore how meaningfulness may vary. The study provides important implications for travel providers concerning the choice of travel destination and for higher education institutions that design and develop international educational tourism opportunities. Tourism is one of the most important promoters of sustainable development in many nations and regions around the globe. Tourism expansion has been a significant contributor to social and economic growth, particularly in developing economies. It is, however, vulnerable to all kinds of health crises and natural disasters, no matter how small they are. The primary purpose of this study is to acquire an empirical understanding of the effects of health crises and disasters on international tourism. The SYS-GMM was used to examine the impact of health calamities and crises, carbon footprints from transportation, and green finance on the tourism of 51 countries between 2007 and 2020. The results showed that health crises and natural disasters have a big effect on international tourism. Alternatively, the presence of eco-friendly and secure transportation at tourist destinations has a positive effect on the tourism industry. The results also showed that environmental expenditures have positive short- and long-term effects on international tourism. Furthermore, the sensitivity of travelers to health crises and natural disasters varies over the short and long term. The study also showed that compared to normal times, international tourism dropped by more than 67% during COVID-19. Consequently, this research assists us in comprehending, predicting, and preventing the potential adverse effects of COVID-19 and other similar economic, health disasters and crises that could occur in the future and harm the tourism industry. The effect of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak on the tourism sector has caused significant disruption to the global economy. The number of international tourist arrivals deteriorated by 80% between March and December 2020. The tourism industry is the main focal source of employment, foreign exchange earnings and government revenue for many developed and developing countries. The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted tourism entrepreneurship causing a plunge in tourism income and global gross domestic product (GDP). South Africa was one of the most infected countries in the world. This caused countries such as Japan, United Kingdom, European Union, the United States of America, France, Germany, Canada and Netherlands to halt flights to South Africa. This paper aimed to discuss the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on tourism entrepreneurs globally. This was imperative to assess as tourism is one of the major industries that has been severely impacted by the Covid-19 crisis and government regulations, and the tourism sector accounts for 80% of the global economy. A secondary data method was used to analyse the effect of the Covid-19 crisis on the tourism industry. This limited the researcher due to the unavailability of essential data for further statistical analysis. The main findings of the study suggested that the Covid-19 pandemic instigated a significant decline in the global GDP, transportation industry and hospitality industry.
