Hybrid spin-mechanical systems offer a promising platform for advancing quantum science and technology. However, practical implementation of applications within these hybrid quantum systems demands the seamless integration of supplementary physical components. In this context, we present a proposal for a multi-mode spin-mechanical setup, featuring the utilization of three-mode coupling nanomechanical carbon nanotube (CNT) resonators. These resonators interact with each other via a phase-dependent phonon-exchange mechanism, which is coupled to the same nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond. Based on the modulation of the phonon–phonon coupling phase and leveraging the triple Fano-like resonance phenomenon, a tripling of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) becomes achievable within the system. This tripling is accompanied by swift dispersion, leading to a subtle advancement or delay in outcomes. The phenomenon of triple Fano-like resonance, alongside the resulting triple EIT, engenders noteworthy slow-to-fast and fast-to-slow light effects, which is theoretically demonstrated in CNT resonators, with both identical and distinct frequencies. The findings underscore that CNT resonators with varying frequencies can evoke a more pronounced transition in the slow–fast–slow and fast–slow–fast light effects. Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) are one of the leading candidates for realizable qubits, as well as for many other advances in quantum computing and quantum communication. The spatial overlapping of wavefunctions describing each single electron in these nanoscale devices results in tunable spatial entanglement. In this article, we explore the case of two electrons in two-dimensional double quantum dot systems. We compute the two-particle wavefunction through a variational method combined with Hermite finite elements and study the spatial entanglement of electrons. We show that symmetry in the geometry of the double quantum dots plays a role in obtaining optimal entanglement, while a broken symmetry can lead to additional resonances in entanglement that are associated with the crossings of states. We also show that one can finely tune the level of spatial entanglement by altering the geometry of the quantum dots or by applying external fields, which corresponds to an "entanglement spectroscopy." Cylindrical magnetic nanowires (NWs) constitute a viable component of 3D nanoscale magnetic devices and engineering their response to external stimuli is necessary for their future functionalization. Here, by means of micromagnetic simulations, we study the dynamical response of vortex–antivortex and Bloch point domain walls under the action of an applied magnetic field in curved arc-shaped NWs varying the saturation magnetization value. Our results provide evidence that, in the range considered in this work, the curvature has no influence on the critical diameters, delimiting different domain wall types. However, it has a relevant effect on the domain wall dynamics. Specifically, the vortex–antivortex domain wall oscillates back and forth while rotating around the nanowire, and the frequency and amplitude can be tuned by curvature and applied field. On the contrary, Bloch point domain wall dynamics does not show any oscillatory behavior, and the domain wall is rapidly expelled from the nanowire with velocities similar to that of the straight cylindrical nanowires. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) recordings of dynamic nano-electromechanical systems (NEMS) are difficult to analyze due to the noise caused by low frame rate, insufficient resolution, and blurriness induced by applied electric potentials. Here, we develop an image processing platform enhanced by the physics of the underlying system to track the motion of buckling NEMS structures in the presence of high noise levels. The algorithm is composed of an image filter, two data filters, and a nonlinear regression model, which utilizes the expected form of the physical solution. The method was applied to the recordings of a NEMS beam about 150 nm wide, undergoing intra- and inter-well post-buckling states with a transition rate of approximately 0.5 Hz. The algorithm can track the dynamical motion of the NEMS and capture the dependency of deflection amplitude on the compressive force on the beam. With the help of the proposed algorithm, the transition from inter-well to intra-well motion is clearly resolved for buckling NEMS imaged under SEM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hyperbolic metamaterials (HMMs) are artificial subwavelength-structured media that exhibit excellent hyperbolic properties. The Casimir force for HMMs can be predicted by effective medium theory (EMT), which simplifies the calculations considerably. However, the conditions of EMT in the Casimir force between HMMs have not been investigated. In this work, we compare the exact results of the Casimir force calculated by the transfer matrix method (TMM) with those from EMT. The numerical results suggest that EMT can accurately calculate the Casimir force only when the gap distance is 100 times larger than the period of a unit cell. When the gap distance and period of unit cell values are comparable, EMT is not suitable for TMM, and the main error occurs in the hyperbolic band. Furthermore, the effect of the filling ratio on the applicable conditions of EMT is also studied. This work demonstrates the conditions of EMT in calculating the Casimir force between HMMs and provides help for the development of micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study the electrothermal actuation of nanomechanical motion using a combination of numerical simulations and analytical solutions. The nanoelectrothermal actuator structure is a u-shaped gold nanoresistor that is patterned on the anchor of a doubly clamped nanomechanical beam or a microcantilever resonator. This design has been used in recent experiments successfully. In our finite-element analysis (FEA) based model, our input is an ac current; we first calculate the temperature oscillations due to Joule heating using Ohm's law and the heat equation; we then determine the thermally induced bending moment and the displacement profile of the beam by coupling the temperature field to Euler–Bernoulli beam theory with tension. Our model efficiently combines transient and frequency-domain analyses: we compute the temperature field using a transient approach and then impose this temperature field as a harmonic perturbation for determining the mechanical response in the frequency domain. This unique modeling method offers lower computational complexity and improved accuracy and is faster than a fully transient FEA approach. Our dynamical model computes the temperature and displacement fields in the time domain over a broad range of actuation frequencies and amplitudes. We validate the numerical results by directly comparing them with experimentally measured displacement amplitudes of nano-electro-mechanical system beams around their eigenmodes in vacuum. Our model predicts a thermal time constant of 1.9 ns in vacuum for our particular structures, indicating that electrothermal actuation is efficient up to ∼ 80 MHz. Many studies suggest that probabilistic spiking in biological neural systems is beneficial as it aids learning and provides Bayesian inference-like dynamics. If appropriately utilised, noise and stochasticity in nanoscale devices can benefit neuromorphic systems. In this paper, we build a stochastic leaky integrate and fire (LIF) neuron, utilising a Mott memristor's inherent stochastic switching dynamics. We demonstrate that the developed LIF neuron is capable of biological neural dynamics. We leverage these characteristics of the proposed LIF neuron by integrating it into a population-coded spiking neural network and a spiking restricted Boltzmann machine (sRBM), thereby showcasing its ability to implement probabilistic learning and inference. The sRBM achieves a software-comparable accuracy of 87.13%. Unlike CMOS-based probabilistic neurons, our design does not require any external noise sources. Electronic characterization of bio-molecular nanoscale devices is important in the new edge of nanotechnology and the field of nanoelectronics. In this new era, the molecular transmission properties of the Adenine bio-molecular optical switch are predicted using Density Functional Theory along with Non-Equilibrium Green's Function-based First Principle approach and this phenomenon is supported with Machine Learning based algorithms. The photo-induced switching characteristics are observed for the bi-directional bio-molecular switch for both forward and reverse bias conditions. This switching behaviour converts the position of the bio-molecular switch to its straightened and 60° twisted form. The electrical doping process plays an important role in generating p and n regions at the two ends of the switch. In this experiment, gold electrodes are used as the supporting anchor of the Adenine molecules. The HOMO–LUMO gap and I–V characteristics of the bio-molecular switch are analyzed using first principle formalisms and compared with the Machine learning approach. This ML approach helps design the future-generation prediction model for the nano-scale electronic device simulation process. This prediction model can be obtained without knowing the switching characteristics and also without knowing all-time sequence generating waveforms but only observing the waveform prediction for up to a certain period sequence. Recent advancement in nanoengineered technologies that use surface acoustic waves of variable frequency and amplitude have sparked significant interest among researchers in the field of bio nano electromechanical systems (Bio-NEMS/MEMS). The increased fascination with vibrating surfaces due to their acoustic streaming possibilities, is the driving force behind this research. These surfaces have outstanding physiochemical characteristics that make them extremely adaptable for a variety of applications, including fluidics, tissue engineering, targeted drug delivery, enhanced oil recovery, etc. In the present work, the study of the vibrating nano platinum surface has been carried out to analyze the effect of surface wettability, resistance force, and mean square displacements to obtain the desired performance using molecular dynamics simulations (MDS). A modified Lennard-Jones (LJ) potential was used to control the mobility of water molecules using a solid–liquid. The optimum performance of the nano surface for the desired application is obtained at higher amplitude (5 Å) and frequency (300 GHz) respectively. The average resistance force (FR) for high configuration surface vibrations increased to 80.14% i.e. from 4.4394 × 1014 kJ/mol/m, compared to 8.818 × 1013 kJ/mol/m at amplitude (2 Å) and frequency (50 GHz) configuration. The piezoelectric properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) doped with boron (B) and nitrogen (N) were studied using the classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulation software package large scale atomic/molecular massively parallel simulator. The interactions among the nanotube atoms C, N, and B were calculated using the Tersoff potential. MD simulations were performed to observe the changes in the piezoelectric coefficient of the doped CNTs under loading conditions like tension, torsion, and a combination of both. We considered a wide range of chirality to determine the influence of structural variation on the piezoelectric effect. The study revealed that B-CNTs exhibit superior piezoelectric coefficients compared to N-CNTs, indicating the significant role of dopant type. Moreover, under tensile loading, zigzag-oriented B-CNTs showed higher piezoelectric coefficients with a maximum e 33 = 0.2441 C m−2, whereas under torsional loading, armchair-oriented B-CNTs showed enhanced response with a maximum e 36 = 0.0564 C m−2. A notable observation was that under combined loading conditions (tensile and torsional), the piezoelectric behavior of the B-CNTs was dependent on the nanotube's chirality and did not yield a linear additive response. The polarization induced under combined loading in most of the doped CNTs is significantly higher than the sum of polarization generated under tensile and torsional loading conditions. This behavior suggests that the overall piezoelectric effect under combined loading can be enhanced, which emphasizes the need for an approach to optimize the mechanical loading condition. The results showcase the potential of B-/N-CNTs to be engineered for efficient performance by demonstrating that tailored mechanical loading can enhance the piezoelectric responses in doped CNTs, opening a pathway for highly functional and efficient nanoscale piezoelectric devices. Using the principles of density functional theory (DFT) and nonequilibrium Green's function (NEGF), We thoroughly researched carbon-doped zigzag boron nitride nanoribbons (ZBNNRs) to understand their electronic behavior and transport properties. Intriguingly, we discovered that careful doping can transform carbon-doped ZBNNRs into a spintronic nanodevice with distinct transport features. Our model showed a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) up to a whopping 10 5 under mild bias conditions. Plus, we spotted a spin rectifier having a significant rectification ratio (RR) of 10 4 . Our calculated transmission spectra have nicely explained why there's a GMR up to 10 5 for spin-up current at biases of - 1.2 V, - 1.1 V, and - 1.0 V, and also accounted for a GMR up to 10 3 –10 5 for spin-down current at biases of 1.0 V, 1.1 V, and 1.2 V. Similarly, the transmission spectra elucidate that at biases of 1.0 V, 1.1 V, and 1.2 V for spin-up, and at biases of 1.1 V and 1.2 V for spin-down in APMO, the RRs reach 10 4 . Our research shines a light on a promising route to push forward the high-performance spintronics technology of ZBNNRs using carbon atom doping. The exponential development in quantum phenomena is directly correlated with the decreasing size of nano‐semiconductor transistors. Consequently, the use of a quantum structure that deviates from traditional transistor types becomes imperative. Electrostatically defined nanoscale devices within 2D semiconductor heterostructures serve as foundational elements for diverse quantum electrical circuits. Van der Waals heterostructures, distinguished by atomically flat interfaces and inherent 2D characteristics, offer advantages such as large‐scale uniformity, flexibility, and portability over conventional bulk semiconductor heterostructures. Herein, the intricate electronic behavior of a MoS2/WSe2 encapsulated heterostructure governed by split‐gate and middle‐gate configurations is investigated, revealing a distinctive step‐like current profile at a low temperature of 77 K. The observed four regimes in the current highlight the impact of quantum confinement induced by reduced lateral dimensions, coupled with precise electrostatic confinement controlled by gate voltages. The temperature dependence of the phenomena emphasizes the role of thermal effects on carrier scattering mechanisms. In addition, the pinch‐off characteristics with different temperatures, middle‐gate voltages, and drain biases are explored. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of electrostatic effects in 2D transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructures and holds promise for the development of advanced electronic devices with tailored confinement for enhanced functionalities. In this study, we conducted calculations to determine the thermal conductivity of silicon nanowires with various shapes and cross-sectional designs using the Monte Carlo method combined with Green–Kubo heat flow autocorrelation. This computational approach is known for its reliability in predicting thermal properties of complex nanostructured devices. We specifically examined nanowires with circular or rectangular sections combined to complex serpentine and fishbone modulations. Our findings indicate that the nanowire's geometry significantly impacts the phonon mean free path and thermal transport. More specifically, patterns with serpentine modulations exhibit a pronounced reduction in thermal conductivity attributable to enhanced phonon boundary scatterings. Our simulation results are compared with the available experimental data, highlighting the potential of our method for structural optimization in thermal management applications, particularly in devices like thermoelectric converters. Photon management strategies are crucial to improve the efficiency of perovskite thin film (PTF) solar cell. In this work, a nano-cone (NC) based 2D photonic nanostructure is designed and simulated aiming at achieve superior light trapping performance by introducing strong light scattering and interferences within perovskite active layer. Compared to the planar PTF solar cell, the NC nanostructured device with 45 degrees half apex angle obtains highest short-circuit current density, which improved over 20% from 15.00 mA/cm2 to 18.09 mA/cm2. This work offers an alternative design towards effective light trapping performance using 2D photonic nanostructure for PTF solar cell and could potentially be adopted as the nano-structuring strategy for the future perovskite solar cell industry. Parametric amplification of ultrasmall signals from electromechanical transducers directly in the mechanical domain, prior to electrical readout, is an intriguing challenge and is important for both scientific measurements and technologies utilizing micro/nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS). Here, we report on parametric amplification of aluminum nitride (AlN) multimode NEMS resonators (with broad intrinsic dynamic ranges up to 90 dB) for enabling detection of their thermomechanical resonances in both optical and electrical readout schemes simultaneously. The experiments demonstrate that, upon parametric pumping, the electrically transduced thermomechanical motions experience significant amplification, surpassing the extrinsic electronic noise level, while still below the parametric pumping threshold. We achieve noise matching that enables room temperature force sensitivity of 0.46 fN/Hz1/2. We observe high parametric gain up to 650, accompanied by a strong boost (over 3.5×) in the effective quality factor (Qeff, from 9000 to 32 000). A thorough understanding of arc discharge mechanism as well as determination of arc discharge voltage at the nanometer scale remains challenging due to the complexities associated with electrode preparation and precisely maintaining nanoscale separations in experiments. This work addresses this challenge through a novel approach by accurately measuring electric breakdown/discharge voltages between Pt-coated Si electrodes with separations ranging from ∼5 nm to 370 nm using a combination of fixed and flexible nano-electrodes while inherently creating an ideal environment to mitigate the effect of mechanical vibrations on the measurement results. For separations of 10, 100, and 300 nm, the corresponding discharge voltages are ∼15, 75, and 160 V, respectively, with the apparent electric field for the 10 nm separation exceeding 1.5 GV m−1. The results acquired from the investigated electrode configuration closely resembling the laterally actuated nanoelectromechanical system (NEMS) cantilever relays reveals strong agreement with NEMS relay breakdown characteristics, emphasizing the importance of arc discharge considerations while designing micro/nano electromechanical devices. In this work, we study the electric and magneto-optical absorption coefficients (ACs) and relative refractive index changes (RRICs) in W x Mo 1 − x S2 ternary alloys under the control of tungsten contents using the compact density matrix approach. With the influence of external electric and magnetic fields, the results show that there are a series of resonant peaks for both intra-band and inter-band transitions. With an increase in W-concentration and electric and magnetic fields, the resonant peaks give a blue (red) shift and reduce (increase) their amplitudes. Imaging and spectroscopy at terahertz (THz) frequencies have become key methods for fundamental studies across the physical sciences. With the emergence of nanoscale materials and devices, holding great promise for photonics, electronics, and communication technologies, the search for THz analysis at the nanoscale arises. Detectorless THz near-field nanoscopy emerged as a versatile method for hyperspectral mapping of light–matter interaction phenomena in bi-dimensional materials and systems. However, it is strongly limited by the weak scattering efficiencies of atomic force microscope (AFM) tips. Here, we experimentally evaluate the performance of unconventional AFM tip shapes to enhance the scattering efficiency, at three frequencies, namely, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.6 THz. The impact of tip geometry is corroborated by numerical simulations. The shorter shank length of the evaluated tips provides a very compelling alternative to commercial tips at frequencies >2 THz. 2D ferroelectric materials with out‐of‐plane polarization are crucial for future nanoscale logic devices due to the increasing demand for energy‐efficient architectures in artificial intelligence. However, only a few 2D out‐of‐plane ferroelectrics are confirmed experimentally. As an important branch of ferroelectrics, organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite ferroelectrics show flexible structures, making them eligible for constructing multifunctional materials. Here, a 2D organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite ferroelectric (6‐BHA)2CdBr4 (6‐BHA is 6‐bromohexylamine) is designed, which crystallizes in polar point group Cc. It experiences the reversal phase transition at 317.8 K and possesses multiaxial ferroelectric properties. More interestingly, it exhibits a large spontaneous polarization value of 3.26 µC cm−2 in out‐of‐plane direction of the film compared with typical 2D ferroelectrics. Moreover, an inverter based on (6‐BHA)2CdBr4 is fabricated, which serves as a proof of concept for the feasibility for logic‐in‐memory devices. This work not only enriches the family of molecular ferroelectrics but also shows the potential to create the next generation of in‐memory computing devices, nanoelectronics devices, and ultra‐high‐density memories. Dynamic behaviors of delaminated nanofilms on substrates are universal and essential phenomena in nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS). Van der Waals (vdWs) interactions play an important role in the dynamic behaviors of delaminated nanofilms on substrates due to the interaction distances at nanoscale or even sub-nanoscale in NEMS. Therefore, it is interesting yet challenging to reveal the effect of intermolecular vdWs interactions on dynamic behaviors of delaminated nanofilms on substrates. By considering sub-nanoscale dynamic boundary effects induced by intermolecular vdWs interactions, a parametric excitation nonlinear vibration model for dynamic behaviors of delaminated nanofilms partly bonded on substrates is established. Effects of sub-nanoscale vdWs dynamic boundaries on transient and steady-state responses of dynamically delaminated nanofilms on substrates are analyzed. The sub-nanoscale vdWs dynamic boundaries lead the dynamic responses of delaminated-nanofilm/substrate systems very sensitive to initial conditions. The bending and shifting frequency response results demonstrated that the system nonlinearities can be greatly amplified by the sub-nanoscale vdWs dynamic boundary effect. Moreover, the spontaneous symmetry breaking and violent interfacial tearing/healing phenomena can be also triggered in the systems. Based on spontaneous symmetry breaking, a trans-scale relationship between nanofilm equilibrium positions and intermolecular vdWs interactions is established, which can provide a promising route for trans-scale measurements of molecular scale interfacial interactions. The features and benefits of a new cutting-edge windowless energy-dispersive detector (EDS) detector are introduced. This innovative technology provides fast results at high signal-to-noise with ultra-high analytical spatial resolution. The benefits are demonstrated through examples of nanostructures from various nanoscale devices including lithium metal anode specimens. Using windowless EDS detector technology allows for the efficient collection of EDS data under the same conditions used for high-resolution imaging (low accelerating voltage, low probe current, and short working distance). Examples include cross sections of lithium metal anode materials prepared with a broad argon ion beam and using an air-isolated workflow. The analyses of the cycled and pristine lithium-ion battery (LIB) materials are shown, along with the contrast results of crystal-shaped impurities found within these materials. Recently, 2D ferroelectric (FE) heterostructures have become a subject of great interest due to their potential device applications and the underlying physics involved. In this study, the first‐principles calculations are employed to examine the FE control of electronic structures in 2D FE heterostructures, specifically In2Se3/h‐BN and CuInP2S6 (CIPS)/h‐BN. In these results, it is demonstrated that by reversing the polarization of the FE layers, the band alignment of the heterostructures can be interconverted between type II and type I. For In2Se3/h‐BN, the variation of out‐of‐plane polarization can be attributed to the hindrance and facilitation of charge transfer from h‐BN to In2Se3 by the intrinsic electric field of the In2Se3 monolayer. For CIPS/h‐BN heterostructures, the higher transferred charge in the Cdn configuration due to the presence of built‐in electric fields and the stronger interfacial interaction in the Cdn configuration result in a higher polarization value compared to the Cdn configuration. Moreover, the carrier mobility of the heterostructures can also be effectively modulated by the FE polarization. In these findings, the potential significance of FE heterostructures with tunable band alignment and bandgap is highlighted in the development of nanoscale optoelectronic devices. Context: Two-dimensional (2D) nanoheterostructures of materials, integrating various phase or materials into a single nanosheet have stimulated large-scale research interest for designing novel two dimensional devices. In contemporary analysis present work, we examined the structural and electronic properties of the isolated 2D BN and GaN monolayers. We have investigated the structural stability and optoelectronic and photocatalytic response of the g-GaN/BN nanoheterostructure along with its response to strain. Nanoheterostructure g-GaN/BN is predicted to be a direct bandgap semiconductor with wide gap of 4.45 eV, whose value can be effectively modulated by applied strain ( ϵ) , ranging from 4.55 (ϵ = − 4%) to 3.58 eV (ϵ = 8%). We also discovered that the tensile strain of 8% can substantially tune the direct bandgap of nanoheterostructure to indirect band gap nature. Even more important, the biaxial tensile strain engineering accentuates an enhancement of optical absorption in the UV region, broadening the light harvesting of the g-GaN/BN nanoheterostructure with the shifting of first absorption peak from 4.64 (ϵ = − 4%) to 3.71 eV (ϵ = 8%). Furthermore, strain-tuned band edge potentials arrangement perfectly fits the water reduction and oxidation redox potentials. Our findings portend that the g-GaN/BN nanoheterostructure has application in prospective nanoscale optoelectronic devices and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution system. Methods: First principles calculations in this study are performed using density functional theory. Generalized gradient approximation within PBEsol functional employed to address the electron–electron exchange–correlation effects. For avoiding periodic interactions between the layers, we have inserted a vacuum region of thickness 10 Å in the z-direction. For ensuring the convergence accuracy of the computed results, convergence criteria of the iteration process is set to be 0.0001 eV. Local modified Becke–Johnson, a semi local functional, is applied for calculating electronic and optical properties for more accuracy of results. The plasmonic nanostructures optical properties, both linear and nonlinear, offer valuable insights for designing nanoscale all-optical devices with rapid response times. This study proposes a novel plasmonic structure, which includes graphene, for developing a wedge hybrid plasmonic waveguide for Kerr nonlinear applications. The behavior of this structure was simulated using the finite element method, and the results indicate that increasing the chemical potential in graphene from μ = 0.1 to 0.45 eV causes the Kerr nonlinear figure of merit curve to move upwards. The wedge-shaped hybrid plasmonic waveguide, which includes graphene, produces comparable results to the conventional wedge-shaped hybrid plasmonic waveguide. With the appropriate values of the graphene sheet Fermi level (i.e. μ = 0.45 eV), the maximum nonlinear coefficient of 2.68 × 107 W−1km−1, Kerr nonlinear figure of merit FoM = 0.029, and minimum effective mode area of Aeff = 0.052 μm2 can be achieved. Nanotechnology is a rapidly developing discipline that has the potential to transform the way we approach problems in a variety of fields, including agriculture. The use of nanotechnology in sustainable agriculture has gained popularity in recent years. It has various applications in agriculture, such as the development of nanoscale materials and devices to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food quality and safety, improve the efficiency of water and nutrient usage, and reduce environmental pollution. Nanotechnology has proven to be very beneficial in this field, particularly in the development of nanoscale delivery systems for agrochemicals such as pesticides, fertilizers, and growth regulators. These nanoscale delivery technologies offer various benefits over conventional delivery systems, including better penetration and distribution, enhanced efficacy, and lower environmental impact. Encapsulating agrochemicals in nanoscale particles enables direct delivery to the targeted site in the plant, thereby reducing waste and minimizing off‐target effects. Plants are fundamental building blocks of all ecosystems and evaluating the interaction between nanoparticles (NPs) and plants is a crucial aspect of risk assessment. While the properties of β-Ga2O3 continue to be extensively studied for high-power applications, the effects of strong electric fields on the Ga2O3 microstructure and, in particular, the impact of electrically active native point defects have been relatively unexplored. We used cathodoluminescence point spectra and hyperspectral imaging to explore possible nanoscale movements of electrically charged defects in Ga2O3 vertical trench power diodes and observed the spatial rearrangement of optically active defects under strong reverse bias. These observations suggest an unequal migration of donor-related defects in β-Ga2O3 due to the applied electric field. The atomic rearrangement and possible local doping changes under extreme electric fields in β-Ga2O3 demonstrate the potential impact of nanoscale device geometry in other high-power semiconductor devices. Comprehensive theoretical models for the dynamic response of slender cantilevered beams immersed in fluid have been widely reported, while the distinct behavior of wide cantilevered plates has received comparatively little attention. In this article, we develop an exact analytical theory for the resonant response of rectangular cantilevered plates of zero length-to-width aspect ratio that are immersed in unbounded viscous fluids. Unlike the opposite slender limit of large aspect ratio, the hydrodynamic load experienced by zero-aspect-ratio cantilevered plates is inherently non-local, which can strongly affect the individual mode shapes of the plate. In addition, finite-element-method simulations are reported for two- and three-dimensional cases of zero and finite aspect ratio, respectively. Accuracy of the present theory and that of Atkinson and Manrique de Lara [J. Sound Vib. 300, 352 (2007)] for small viscosity and zero aspect ratio is assessed using the former simulations. The latter simulations are used to clarify the regime of validity of the present theory as a function of aspect ratio, along with that of existing theory for slender (large aspect ratio) beams. Accurately characterizing the thermomechanical parameters of nanoscale systems is essential for understanding their performance and building innovative nanoscale technologies due to their distinct behaviours. Fractional thermal transport models are commonly utilized to correctly depict the heat transfer that occurs in these nanoscale systems. The current study presents a novel mathematical thermoelastic model that incorporates a new fractional differential constitutive equation for heat conduction. This heat equation is useful for understanding the effects of thermal memory. An application of a fractional-time Atangana–Baleanu (AB) derivative with a local and non-singular kernel was utilized in the process of developing the mathematical model that was suggested. To deal with effects that depend on size, nonlocal constitutive relations are introduced. Furthermore, in order to take into consideration, the viscoelastic behaviour of the material at the nanoscale, the fractional Kelvin–Voigt model is utilized. The proposed model is highly effective in properly depicting the unusual thermal conductivity phenomena often found in nanoscale devices. The study also considered the mechanical deformation, temperature variations, and viscoelastic characteristics of the functionally graded (FG) nanostructured beams. The consideration was made that the material characteristics exhibit heterogeneity and continuous variation across the thickness of the beam as the nanobeam transitions from a ceramic composition in the lower region to a metallic composition in the upper region. The complicated thermomechanical features of simply supported viscoelastic nanobeams that were exposed to harmonic heat flow were determined by the application of the model that was constructed. Heterogeneity, nonlocality, and fractional operators are some of the important variables that contribute to its success, and this article provides a full study and illustration of the significance of these characteristics. The results that were obtained have the potential to play a significant role in pushing forward the design and development of tools, materials, and nanostructures that have viscoelastic mechanical characteristics and graded functions. Nanomaterials (NMs) are having a huge impact in several domains, including the fabrication of medical devices (MDs). Hence, nanostructured MDs are becoming quite common; nevertheless, the associated risks must be carefully considered in order to demonstrate safety prior to their immission on the market. The biological effect of NMs requires the consideration of methodological issues since already established methods for, e.g., cytotoxicity can be subject to a loss of accuracy in the presence of certain NMs. The need for oversight of MDs containing NMs is reflected by the European Regulation 2017/745 on MDs, which states that MDs incorporating or consisting of NMs are in class III, at highest risk, unless the NM is encapsulated or bound in such a manner that the potential for its internal exposure is low or negligible (Rule 19). Power efficiency and enhancing the speed are two major challenges of traditional D-Flip-Flops (D-FF) for designing energy-efficient IOT (internet of thing) devices. Therefore, the main objective of this research article is to design low power high speed D-FF circuits using emerging nanoscale devices. Hence, the first time, in this paper, a pulse-triggered Junctionless D-Flip-Flop (JLFET D-FF) circuit is presented using 15 nm technology, targeting both power budget and high performance concerns. Here, the D-FF circuit uses a signal feedthrough approach to minimize transition duration when output switches from 0 to 1, which requires only a single JLFET structure. Further, to minimize the delay time for the 1 to 0 transition, the discharging path is optimized by employing only two JLFETs. The novel JLFET D-FF circuit is simulated in the Cadence virtuoso simulator using the Verilog-A model. The simulated results have shown that the average power consumption and delay of the proposed circuit are significantly improved as compared to the earlier reported work. The average power consumption in JLFET D-FF for 25% data switching activity is improved by approximately 56% and 64% than ULPFF and SFT-FF, respectively. Further, the power delay performance (PDP) of JLFET D-FF is improved by 96% and 97% at the same data switching activity as compared to ULPFF and SFT-FF, respectively. The performance of the novel D-FF circuit is measured by considering D to Q delay as key parameter which is improved by 77% and 77.5% than ULPFF and SFT-FF, respectively. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a linear, anionic, non-sulfated glycosaminoglycan occurring in almost all body tissues and fluids of vertebrates including humans. It is a main component of the extracellular matrix and, thanks to its high water-holding capacity, plays a major role in tissue hydration and osmotic pressure maintenance, but it is also involved in cell proliferation, differentiation and migration, inflammation, immunomodulation, and angiogenesis. Based on multiple physiological effects on tissue repair and reconstruction processes, HA has found extensive application in regenerative medicine. In recent years, nanotechnological research has been applied to HA in order to improve its regenerative potential, developing nanomedical formulations containing HA as the main component of multifunctional hydrogels systems, or as core component or coating/functionalizing element of nanoconstructs. There is still a gap in understanding phonon scattering by geometrical defects at the nanoscale, and it remains a significant challenge for heat transfer management in nanoscale devices and systems. In this study, we aim to explore the characteristics of phonon scattering by a single pore to gain insights into thermal transport in nanostructures. The paper outlines a methodology for assessing the spatial distribution of the magnitude of the radial, azimuthal, and polar components of the velocity of scattered phonons by a spherical pore. We demonstrated that the size parameter, commonly employed in electromagnetic wave scattering theory, is vital in determining the scattering regime. Specifically, we show that the calculated scattering efficiency has the same pattern as that commonly obtained in classical wave scattering theory. However, we found that crystallographic directions are pivotal in shaping the scattering patterns, especially in the regions where scattering patterns are defined by the Mie resonances. Friction, wear, and the consequent energy dissipation pose significant challenges in systems with moving components, spanning various domains, including nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS) and bio-MEMS (microrobots), hip prostheses (biomaterials), offshore wind and hydro turbines, space vehicles, solar mirrors for photovoltaics, triboelectric generators, etc. Nature-inspired bionic surfaces offer valuable examples of effective texturing strategies, encompassing various geometric and topological approaches tailored to mitigate frictional effects and related functionalities in various scenarios. By employing biomimetic surface modifications, for example, roughness tailoring, multifunctionality of the system can be generated to efficiently reduce friction and wear, enhance load-bearing capacity, improve self-adaptiveness in different environments, improve chemical interactions, facilitate biological interactions, etc. However, the full potential of bioinspired texturing remains untapped due to the limited mechanistic understanding of functional aspects in tribological/biotribological settings. The current review extends to surface engineering and provides a comprehensive and critical assessment of bioinspired texturing that exhibits sustainable synergy between tribology and biology. The successful evolving examples from nature for surface/tribological solutions that can efficiently solve complex tribological problems in both dry and lubricated contact situations are comprehensively discussed. The review encompasses four major wear conditions: sliding, solid-particle erosion, machining or cutting, and impact (energy absorbing). Furthermore, it explores how topographies and their design parameters can provide tailored responses (multifunctionality) under specified tribological conditions. Optical metalenses offer a compact approach for the development of nanoscale optical devices with various imaging functionalities. Realizing high‐quality images using metalenses with large numerical aperture (NA) requires eliminating unwanted optical aberrations. Existing strategies have largely focused only on correcting chromatic aberrations, and a metalens capable of simultaneously correcting chromatic and spherical aberrations has not yet been developed. Here, this issue is addresed by realizing an aplanatic phase profile for a red–green–blue (RGB) achromatic metalens, thereby demonstrating an RGB‐achromatic aplanatic metalens. This device consists of crystalline silicon nanostructures and it enables RGB‐achromatic aplanatic focusing with an NA of 0.635. The focal length of metalens remains unchanged at the three RGB wavelengths, whereas the associated focal spots are significantly smaller than those of an RGB‐achromatic metalens with spherical aberrations. High‐index Mie‐resonant dielectric nanostructures provide a new framework to manipulate light at the nanoscale. In particular their local field confinement together with their inherently low losses at frequencies below their bandgap energy allows to efficiently boost and control linear and nonlinear optical processes. Here, nanoantennas composed of a thin indium‐tin oxide (ITO) layer in the center of a dielectric gallium phosphide (GaP) nanodisc are investigated. While the linear response is similar to that of a pure GaP nanodisc, it is shown that second harmonic generation is enhanced across a broadband wavelength range. On the other hand, third harmonic generation is only marginally enhanced around the epsilon‐near‐zero wavelength of ITO. Linear and nonlinear finite‐difference time‐domain simulations show that despite the high refractive index contrast leading to strong field confinement inside the antenna's ITO layer, the nanogap enhancement effect is mitigated by the low nonlinear volume of the nanogap layer and the antenna's behavior at the harmonic wavelength. Measurement of ITO and GaP nonlinear susceptibilities additionally show a comparative advantage for harmonic generation in GaP. Particle assembly is a promising technique to create functional materials and devices from nanoscale building blocks. However, the control of particle arrangement and orientation is challenging and requires careful design of the assembly methods and conditions. In this study, the static and dynamic methods of particle assembly are reviewed, focusing on their applications in biomaterial sciences. Static methods rely on the equilibrium interactions between particles and substrates, such as electrostatic, magnetic, or capillary forces. Dynamic methods can be associated with the application of external stimuli, such as electric fields, magnetic fields, light, or sound, to manipulate the particles in a non-equilibrium state. This study discusses the advantages and limitations of such methods as well as nanoarchitectonic principles that guide the formation of desired structures and functions. It also highlights some examples of biomaterials and devices that have been fabricated by particle assembly, such as biosensors, drug delivery systems, tissue engineering scaffolds, and artificial organs. It concludes by outlining the future challenges and opportunities of particle assembly for biomaterial sciences. This review stands as a crucial guide for scholars and professionals in the field, fostering further investigation and innovation. Beta gallium oxide (β‐Ga2O3) has emerged as a highly promising semiconductor material with an ultrawide bandgap ranging from 4.5 to 4.9 eV for future applications in power electronics, optoelectronics, as well as gas and ultraviolet (UV) radiation sensors. Here, surface adsorption and air damping behavior of doubly clamped β‐Ga2O3 nanomechanical resonators are probed and systemically studied by measuring the resonance characteristics under different gas and pressure conditions. High responsivities of resonance to pressure are obtained by heating the devices up to 300 °C to induce an accelerated adsorption–desorption process. The initial surface conditions of the β‐Ga2O3 thin film play important roles in affecting the resonant behavior. UV ozone treatment proves effective in altering the initial surface conditions of β‐Ga2O3 nanosheets by eliminating physisorbed contaminants and filling oxygen vacancy defects residing on the surface, resulting in a consequential and discernible modification of the resonance behavior of β‐Ga2O3 nanomechanical resonators. The surface adsorption and desorption processes in β‐Ga2O3 demonstrate clear reversibility by exposing the UV treated β‐Ga2O3 to air. This study attains first‐hand information on how the surface conditions of β‐Ga2O3 affect its mechanical properties, and helps guide future development of transducers via β‐Ga2O3 nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) for pressure sensing applications, especially in harsh environments. This article presents a theoretical study on the negative differential resistance (NDR) behavior of a bilaterally hydrogen-passivated Zigzag GeSe nanoribbon based single-gate field-effect transistor. It is focused on a 5-nm channel length device, and the study utilizes a simulation calculation that combines the density functional theory and non-equilibrium Green's function. In this study, a nitrogen atom is introduced as a substitutional dopant to replace the Ge atom in the source and drain regions of the GeSe field-effect transistor to created special symmetry structure. The numerical results demonstrate that the current peak-to-valley ratio (PVR) of the device can be effectively controlled by applying a gate voltage and up to 105 with the current peak value of 0.3 nA at room temperature (300 K). The device configuration described in this study meets the requirements of real-world industrial applications. Two-dimensional (2D) materials are promising for atomic-scale, ultralow-power, and highly tunable resonant nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) in sensing, communications, and computing. Toward these applications, a broad and controllable linear dynamic range (DR) is desirable for increasing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and reliability. Here, we develop a comprehensive strain-enhanced DR model for 2D NEMS resonators, which is experimentally verified through the tuning of DRs in 2D molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe2) NEMS resonators using gate-induced strain. We find that the resonance frequency, quality factor, and nonlinear coefficient are all tuned by the gate voltage, which enhance the DR together. Through the guidance of the DR tuning model, we demonstrate DR enhancement by up to 26.9 dB (from 69.5 to 96.4 dB) in a 2D MoS2 NEMS resonator by properly tuning the gate voltage, leading to a theoretical mass resolution of 26 yg (1 yg = 10−24 g). To accurately extract the DR, we further differentiate the quality factors for thermomechanical resonances and for resonances at the largest linear amplitude. This gate-enhanced DR model is also verified using a MoTe2 resonator, with DR enhancement of 7 dB (91.2 to 98.2 dB). The results provide a promising pathway for accurately predicting and optimizing the DRs in NEMS resonators, toward enhanced sensitivity and SNR in mass sensing, radio frequency signal processing, memory, and computing applications. In this paper, a new design of high transmission efficiency all-optical triplexer based on metal–insulator–metal (MIM) plasmonic double-triangle-teeth-shaped nano-resonator waveguide structures was proposed. By properly adjusting the height of the triangle-teeth-shaped nano-resonators, certain wavelengths can be filtered out and the crosstalk of each channel also can be greatly reduced. The numerical results show that the proposed MIM plasmonic waveguide structure could really function as an all-optical triplexer with respect to the three wavelengths i.e. λ = 1310 nm, 1490 nm, and 1550 nm, respectively. It can be widely used as the fiber access network element for multiplexer-demultiplexer wavelength selective in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) communication systems with transmission efficiency higher than 90%. The crosstalks are reduced from − 8.70 to − 149.16 dB for the channel 1, from − 17 to − 83.56 dB for the channel 2, and from − 31.68 to − 99.05 dB for the channel 3, respectively. Low-dimensional (LD) materials, with atomically thin anisotropic structures, exhibit remarkable physical and chemical properties, prominently featuring piezoelectricity resulting from the absence of centrosymmetry. This characteristic has led to diverse applications, including sensors, actuators, and micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems. While piezoelectric effects are observed across zero-dimensional (0D), one-dimensional (1D), and two-dimensional (2D) LD materials, challenges such as effective charge separation and crystal structure imperfections limit their full potential. Addressing these issues requires innovative solutions, with the integration of LD materials with polymers, ceramics, metals, and other porous materials proving a key strategy to significantly enhance piezoelectric properties. This review comprehensively covers recent advances in synthesizing and characterizing piezoelectric composites based on LD materials and porous materials. The synergistic combination of LD materials with other substances, especially porous materials, demonstrates notable performance improvements, addressing inherent challenges. This paper proposes a practical framework for developing a net-zero electricity mix scenario (NEMS), which considers detailed conditions for supply of each energy. NEMS means a path scenario for power generation amount by year of each generation resource required to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050. NEMS framework refers to a methodological framework that contains procedures and requirements to continuously update the NEMS by comprehensively reflecting policy changes. For evaluation of NEMS, indicators such as a system inertia resource ratio (SIRR) and a fuel conversion rate (FCR) are proposed. The proposed framework and indicators are applied for the 2050 NEMS in Korea's electricity sector. The SIRR, indicating the ratio of inertial resources to total resources, projects values of 49% and 15% for the years 2030 and 2050, respectively. Furthermore, the FCR, reflecting the ratio of fuel conversion for resources undergoing this process, predicts that all targeted resources will have completed conversion by the year 2043. Recent years have seen explosive growth in miniaturized sensors that can continuously monitor a wide variety of processes, with applications in healthcare, manufacturing, and environmental sensing. The time series generated by these sensors often involves abrupt jumps in the detected signal. One such application uses nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) for mass spectrometry, where analyte adsorption produces a quick but finite-time jump in the resonance frequencies of the sensor eigenmodes. This finite-time response can lead to ambiguity in the detection of adsorption events, particularly in high event-rate mass adsorption. Here, we develop a computational algorithm that robustly eliminates this often-encountered ambiguity. A moving-window statistical test together with a feature-based clustering algorithm is proposed to automate the identification of single-event jumps. We validate the method using numerical simulations and demonstrate its application in practice using time-series data that are experimentally generated by molecules adsorbing onto NEMS sensors at a high event rate. Atomically thin two-dimensional materials, such as graphene, exhibit extreme high-pressure sensitivity compared to the commercially used pressure sensors due to their high surface-to-volume ratio and excellent mechanical properties. The smaller piezoresistance of graphene across different transport regimes limits its pressure sensitivity compared to other two-dimensional materials. Using membrane theory and the thin-film adhesivity model, we show miniaturization as a means to enhance the overall performance of graphene pressure sensors. Our findings reveal that ballistic graphene can be configured to measure ultra-high pressure (≈ 10 9 Pa) with many-fold high-pressure sensitivity than other contemporary two-dimensional materials. Based on these findings, we propose an array of ballistic graphene sensors with extreme high-pressure sensitivity and ultra-high-pressure range that will find applications in next-generation nano-electro-mechanical system pressure sensors. The performance parameters of the array sensors can be further enhanced by reducing the size of graphene membranes and increasing the number of sensors in the array. For more than 30 years, scanning thermal microscopy (SThM) has been used for thermal imaging and quantitative thermal measurements. It has proven its usefulness for investigations of the thermal transport in nanoscale devices and structures. However, because of the complexity of the heat transport phenomena, a quantitative analysis of the experimental results remains a non-trivial task. This paper shows the SThM state-of-art, beginning with the equipment and methodology of the measurements, through its theoretical background and ending with selected examples of its applications. Every section concludes with considerations on the future development of the experimental technique. Polar 4H-SiC nano-resonators can host localized surface phonon polaritons (SPhPs) with low optical loss and fully exploit light–matter interactions for promising nanophotonic applications such as surface-enhanced spectroscopies and thermal imaging. To expand the mid-infrared and infrared application spaces, a sound knowledge of temperature effect on infrared dielectric functions and SPhPs of 4H-SiC is required, yet it remains largely unexplored. Herein, we focus on exploiting the temperature influence on dielectric functions, hybridization of propagating and localized SPhPs, and tailed spectral radiation properties of 4H-SiC nanopillar arrays through spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) measurements as well as multiscale simulations. The 4H-SiC crystal is grown using the physical vapor transport method, and SE experiments measure infrared dielectric functions at temperatures between 300 and 800 K. Finite-element electromagnetic simulations confirm the emerged Monopole and transverse dipoles (TD1 and TD2) resonance modes in 4H-SiC nano-resonators, which agrees with the literature experiment. At high temperatures with strong lattice vibration, the amplitudes of resonant optical absorption peaks gradually decrease and the linewidths broaden, accompanied by the weakened electric resonances. First-principles calculations show that the anharmonic phonon scattering strengthens and less optical phonons are coupled to incident photons as temperature increases. Moreover, the propagating and localized SPhPs' hybridization and spectral radiation properties of 4H-SiC nanopillar arrays can be largely tailed by modifying the morphology and incident angle of light. This work provides physical insights into the temperature-induced spectral tuning of 4H-SiC nano-resonators and helps exploit their applications in the high-temperature working conditions. Two-dimensional (2D) ferroelectrics have attracted extensive attention due to their rich variety of exquisite functionalities in novel nanoscale electronic devices. As domain walls (DWs) in ferroelectrics are topological defects separating domains with different orientations of the electric polarization, a detailed understanding of the energetic and atomistic characteristics of 2D ferroelectric DWs is a crucial issue due to its theoretical and technological importance. In the current study, using first-principles calculations, we provided a detailed investigation on the energy, variation of the atomic structure with applied strain, and the electronic properties of 180° and 90° DWs in 2D GeS including the uncharged and charged DWs. All types of DWs in 2D GeS were found to be atomically sharp. In addition, the 90° uncharged DW was more energetically favorable than the 180° DW, which is similar to DWs of perovskites. However, due to the effect of adverse electrostatic energy, the charged DW possessed higher energy than that of the uncharged DW. On the other hand, the polarization distortion of the domain region in all DWs is significantly strengthened by the biaxial strain. In addition, the density of states showed that the charged DW is conductive relative to the uncharged domain wall, because the uncompensated positive or negative charges exist at the charged domain wall. Progress in the development of nanometer scaled Fin Field Effect Transistor (FinFET) devices is affected by a lack of understanding of relevant dopant diffusion phenomena due to limited experimental data. In particular, 2D dopant potential mapping by electron holography in 3D FinFET devices has been challenged by the overlap of electrically active fins, metal films, and dielectric films in the electron beam direction. This paper presents methodology on how to map dopant potential in modern FinFET devices. A custom-device structure was developed, which preserved all essential features of the device manufacturing process. The dopant reconstruction method is suggested to account for the presence of materials other than silicon fin between fins. A comparison of lateral dopant potential profiles with device simulations offers agreement within 0.32 V. Compositional non-uniformity of materials between fin devices is identified as the main limiting factor. A further reduction of compositional non-uniformity should allow for quantitative 2D dopant potential mapping with high sensitivity to probe the effects of dopant segregation, deactivation, and diffusion kinetics in 3D FinFET devices at the nanometer scale. We report on the experimental demonstration of high-performance suspended channel transistors with single- and bilayer (1L and 2L) molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), and on operating them as vibrating channel transistors (VCTs) and exploiting their built-in dynamic electromechanical coupling to read out picoampere (pA) transconduction current directly at the vibrating tones, without frequency conversion or down-mixing, for picometer (pm)-scale motion detection at room temperature. The 1L- and 2L-MoS2 VCTs exhibit excellent n-type transistor behavior with high mobility [150 cm2/(V·s)] and small subthreshold swing (98 mV/dec). Their resonance motions are probed by directly measuring the small-signal drain-source currents (iD). Electromechanical characteristics of the devices are extracted from the measured iD, yielding resonances at f0 = 31.83 MHz with quality factor Q = 117 and f0 = 21.43 MHz with Q = 110 for 1L- and 2L-MoS2 VCTs, respectively. The 2L-MoS2 VCT demonstrates excellent current and displacement sensitivity (Si1/2 = 2 pA/Hz1/2 and Sx1/2 = 0.5 pm/Hz1/2). We demonstrate f0 tuning by controlling gate voltage VG and achieve frequency tunability Δf0/f0 ≈ 8% and resonance frequency change Δf0/ΔVG ≈ 0.53 kHz/mV. This study helps pave the way to realizing ultrasensitive self-transducing 2D nanoelectromechanical systems at room temperature, in all-electronic configurations, for on-chip applications.
