Advances in cryobiology techniques commonly target either the cooling or the warming cycle, while little thought has been given to ≪repair≫ protocols applicable during cold storage. In particular, crystallization is the dominant threat to cryopreserved samples but proceeds from small nuclei that are innocuous if further growth is forestalled. To this end, we propose a laser editing technique that locally heats individual crystals above their melting point by a focused nanosecond pulse, followed by amorphization during rapid resolidification. As a reference, we first apply the approach to ice crystals in cryoprotected solution and use Raman confocal mapping to study the deactivation of crystalline order. Then, we examine dimethyl sulfoxide trihydrate crystals that can germinate at low temperatures in maximally freeze concentrated regions, as commonly produced by equilibrium cooling protocols. Carbon dioxide (CO 2) and methane (CH 4) are highly hazardous air pollutants that pose significant threats to the environment and human health and contribute indirectly to global warming. The dry reforming of methane (DRM) reaction has been investigated in numerous applications, including hydrogen production and catalytic converters. Catalytic DRM is one of the most effective approaches for utilizing CO 2 and CH 4 in syngas, which has garnered a lot of scholarly attention as a model reaction throughout the past couple of decades. Previous studies have extensively investigated the development of catalysts for DRM, with a particular emphasis on noble metal catalysts, catalyst configuration, and the influence of process parameters. However, despite the current understanding, there still needs to be a research gap in comprehending the synergistic interactions between catalytic activity and physicochemical features. Addressing this gap is of utmost importance. Therefore, a state-of-the-art review that clarifies new advancements for specific recently developed catalytic DRM systems with a complete evaluation and the synergistic link to physicochemical properties and their correlation with catalyst deactivation is critically urgent. Furthermore, in this study, we emphasized Ni-based catalysts as a promising option for DRM, given their potential, wide availability, and cost-effectiveness, owing to their high activity. Also, we discussed the limitations associated with this particular active metal. Additionally, this review integrates informetric analysis, employing robust search resources such as Web of Science. This analysis provides valuable insights into the DRM reaction, facilitating a deeper understanding of research trends and developments. This review can serve as a critical reference for scientists and experts engaged in mitigating CO 2 and CH 4 using DRM reactions and supports the academic and industrial sectors in their research and development efforts by contributing to developing well-designed catalysts suitable for future applications. Micro-mesoporous silicon materials were prepared using silicate filtrate produced from fly ash as a silicon source. Then, the micro-mesoporous silica material was used as the carrier and amine compounds as modifiers to prepare a micro-mesoporous CO 2 adsorbent. Afterwards, the structural properties, surface groups, thermal stability of micro-mesoporous silicon materials and micro-mesoporous CO 2 adsorbent were studied. The results reveal that the micro-mesoporous CO 2 adsorbent maintains the same micro-mesoporous structure as the micro-mesoporous silica material. And the thermal stability temperatures of adsorbent is below 383 K. Later, the CO 2 adsorption performance and kinetic characteristics of adsorption process were studied through thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and adsorption column experiments. The results indicated that the optimal CO 2 adsorption capacity of 2.31 mmol/g-adsorbent was achieved at 343 K, and the adsorption capacity remained basically unchanged after 10 adsorption/desorption cycles. Dynamics studies have shown that the Avrami fraction model fits the CO 2 isothermal adsorption curve very well, and the fitting results reveal that the intra-particle diffusion dominates the speed of the adsorption process. Additionally, the Yasyerli deactivation model can perfectly fit the CO 2 adsorption breakthrough curve, and the fitting results indicate that the CO 2 adsorption process is the deactivation process of the adsorbent. Finally, the adsorption/desorption kinetic simulation parameters can be used for the design and optimization of CO 2 adsorption and desorption processes in industry. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have garnered considerable interest owing to their high conversion efficiency and eco-friendliness. However, the components of PEMFCs are prone to degradation caused by generated radicals, hindering their widespread application. To counteract the chemical attack of radicals on PEMFC components, the key solution is to incorporate radical scavengers, as they can effectively eliminate harmful radicals. Ce-based scavengers exhibit the highest radical scavenging capacity, whereas they are susceptible to dissolution and may exert poisoning effects on ionomers, thereby impacting proton conductivity and gas mass transfer. Additionally, Ce-based radical scavengers may degraded and migrated due to varying chemical and electrochemical conditions. This study delves into the scavenging mechanisms and influences of Ce-based radical scavengers. Furthermore, it addresses the issues of poisoning and migration and outlines appropriate measures to mitigate these challenges. This review aims to offer an innovative solution to enhance the durability of PEMFCs. Ruthenium (Ru) is considered a promising candidate catalyst for alkaline hydroxide oxidation reaction (HOR) due to its hydrogen binding energy (HBE) like that of platinum (Pt) and its much higher oxygenophilicity than that of Pt. However, Ru still suffers from insufficient intrinsic activity and CO resistance, which hinders its widespread use in anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs). Here, we report a hybrid catalyst (RuCo)NC+SAs/N‐CNT consisting of dilute RuCo alloy nanoparticles and atomically single Ru and Co atoms on N‐doped carbon nanotubes The catalyst exhibits a state‐of‐the‐art activity with a high mass activity of 7.35 A mgRu−1. More importantly, when (RuCo)NC+SAs/N‐CNT is used as an anode catalyst for AEMFCs, its peak power density reaches 1.98 W cm−2, which is one of the best AEMFCs properties of noble metal‐based catalysts at present. Moreover, (RuCo)NC+SAs/N‐CNT has superior long‐time stability and CO resistance. Catalyst deactivation by sintering and coking is a long‐standing issue in metal‐catalyzed harsh high‐temperature hydrocarbon reactions. Ultrathin oxide coatings of metal nanocatalysts have recently appeared attractive to address this issue, while the porosity of the overlayer is difficult to control to preserve the accessibility of embedded metal nanoparticles, thus often leading to a large decrease in activity. Here, we report that a nanometer‐thick alumina coating of MgAl2O4‐supported metal catalysts followed by high‐temperature reduction can transform a nonporous amorphous alumina overlayer into a porous Mg1‐xAl2Oy crystalline spinel structure with a pore size of 2–3 nm and weakened acidity. The high porosity stems from the restrained Mg migration from the MgAl2O4 support to the alumina overlayer through solid‐state reactions at high temperatures. The resulting Ni/MgAl2O4 and Pt/MgAl2O4 catalysts with a porous crystalline Mg1‐xAl2Oy overlayer achieved remarkably high stability while preserving much higher activity than the corresponding alumina‐coated Ni and Pt catalysts on MgO and Al2O3 supports in the reactions of dry reforming of methane and propane dehydrogenation, respectively. The introduction of nitrogen‐containing functional groups to chiral polymer backbones enables the tailoring of physical properties and offers opportunities for further post‐polymerization modification. However, the substrate scope of such polymers is extremely limited because monomers having nitrogen‐containing groups can change coordination state with respect to the metal centers, thus decreasing the activity and enantioselectivity and even poisoning the catalyst completely. In this paper, we report our attempts to carry out the asymmetric copolymerization of meso‐epoxide with highly reactive isocyanates. In particular, we found that biphenol‐linked bimetallic Co(III) complexes with multiple chiral centers are very efficient in catalyzing this asymmetric copolymerization reaction, affording optically active polyurethanes with a completely alternating nature and a high enantioselectivity of up to 94 % ee. Crucially, we identified that the steric hindrance at the phenolate ortho position of the ligand strongly influences the catalytic activity and product enantioselectivity. In addition, density functional theory calculations revealed that the highly sterically bulky substituents change the mechanism from bimetallic to monometallic, and result in the unexpected inversion of the chiral induction direction. Moreover, the high stereoregularity of the produced polyurethanes enhances their thermal stability, and they can be selectively decomposed into oxazolidinones. Background and Aims Methods Results Conclusions Liver injury is one of the common complications of paraquat (PQ) poisoning, but whether the degree of liver injury is related to patient prognosis is still controversial. This study aimed to investigate whether liver injury was a risk factor for death in PQ‐poisoned patients.We conducted a retrospective cohort study of PQ‐poisoned patients from the past 10 years (2011–2020) from a large tertiary academic medical centre in China. PQ‐poisoned patients were divided into a normal liver function group (n = 580) and a liver injury group (n = 60). Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was then performed.A total of 640 patients with PQ poisoning were included in this study. To reduce the impact of bias, dose of PQ, urinary PQ concentration and time from poisoning to hospital admission were matched between the two groups. A 3:1 PSM analysis was performed, ultimately including 240 patients. Compared with the normal liver function group, patients in the liver injury group were older, had a higher R value ([ALT/ULN]/[ALP/ULN]) (p < .001) and had a higher mortality rate. Cox regression analysis showed that there was no significant association between alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin levels and hazard of death, but age, PQ dose, creatine kinase isoenzyme, creatine kinase, white blood cell count, neutrophil percentage and lymphocyte percentage were associated with mortality in patients with PQ poisoning.The occurrence of liver injury within 48 h after PQ poisoning was a risk factor for mortality, and such liver injury was likely of a hepatocellular nature. Age, PQ dose, creatine kinase isoenzyme and white blood cell count were positively correlated with mortality, while creatine kinase, percentage of neutrophils and lymphocytes were inversely correlated. Worldwide, acute antipsychotic poisoning results in high morbidities and mortalities. Though extrapyramidal syndromes are commonly associated, the extent of extrapyramidal syndromes in relation to the severity of antipsychotic poisoning has not been addressed yet. Thus, this study aimed to assess the Global Dystonia Rating Scale (GDRS) as an unfavorable outcomes predictive tool in acute antipsychotic poisoning. A cross-sectional study included 506 antipsychotic-poisoned patients admitted to Tanta University Poison Control Center, Egypt, over three years was conducted. The mean GDRS was 9.1 ± 16.7 in typical antipsychotic poisoning, which was significantly higher than that of atypical antipsychotics (4.2 ± 11.5) (p = 0.003). Patients with GDRS> 20 showed significantly higher liability for all adverse outcomes (p < 0.05). However, poisoning with typical antipsychotics was associated with significantly more cardiotoxicity (p = 0.042), particularly prolonged QRS (p = 0.005), and intensive care unit (ICU) admission (p = 0.000). In contrary to the PSS, which failed to predict the studied adverse outcomes, GDRS significantly predicted all adverse outcomes (p < 0.000) for all antipsychotic generations. In atypical antipsychotics, GDRS above three accurately predicted cardiotoxicities, prolonged QTc interval, and respiratory failure with Area under curves (AUC) of 0.937, 0.963, and 0.941, respectively. In typical antipsychotic poisoning, at higher cutoffs (7.5, 27.5, 18, and 7.5), cardiotoxicities, prolonged QTc interval, and respiratory failure were accurately predicted (AUC were 0.974, 0.961, and 0.960, respectively). To investigate how effectively systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and Monocyte-to-HDL-cholesterol ratio (MHR) predict the development of early cardio-cerebral complications in elderly patients who have experienced acute severe carbon monoxide poisoning (ASCMP). A retrospective analysis was conducted on 77 elderly patients with ASCMP admitted to the emergency department of Harrison International Peace Hospital from November 2020 to March 2022. The prevalence of early-onset complications among the 77 individuals was 38.96%. Binary Logistics regression analysis showed that SII and MHR were independent influencing factors of early cardio-cerebral complications in elderly patients with ASCMP. The complication group had a longer length of stay, a greater mortality rate, and a higher incidence of delayed encephalopathy after acute carbon monoxide poisoning (p <.05) than the non-complication group. The area under the curve (AUC) of SII and MHR in predicting early cardio-cerebral complications in elderly patients with ASCMP were 0.724 and 0.796, respectively, with 80.0% and 63.3% sensitivity, and 61.7% and 87.2% specificity. The incidence of early cardio-cerebral complications in elderly patients who had ASCMP is high and the prognosis is poor. SII and MHR can be utilized as independent predictors of early cardio-cerebral complications in elderly patients with ASCMP, allowing doctors to diagnose and treat cardio-cerebral complications earlier and improve prognosis. Objectives: Severe coagulopathy due to consumption of synthetic cannabinoids adulterated with brodifacoum, a long-acting anticoagulant, is an emerging worldwide hazard. Here, we review the spectrum of imaging findings in adulterated cannabinoid poisoning. Materials and methods: In this retrospective study, we used the Israeli Poison Information Center database to identify patients with cannabinoid-associated coagulopathy who presented to the Rambam Health Care Campus, where most patients were treated during an outbreak in northern Israel between September 2021 and June 2022. All relevant imaging studies for these patients were reviewed. We estimated the sensitivity of findings for cannabinoid-associated coagulopathy. Associations between a continuous variable and a dichotomous outcome were assessed with the Mann–Whitney U test. Results: We identified 48 patients (mean age 40 years ± 9 [SD], 43 males) with 54 hospitalizations due to cannabinoid-associated coagulopathy. Symptomatic hemorrhage was documented in 50 (93%) cases at presentation, most of whom (78%) had hemorrhage from multiple systems. The most common bleeding site was the genitourinary collecting system, with a characteristic sign of suburothelial bleeding in 16/18 of performed abdominal CTs (sensitivity 89% [CI 65–99%] for cannabinoid-associated coagulopathy). Intramural bowel hematomas were noted in 70% (7/10) of CTs of patients with gastrointestinal bleeding. Incidental bleeding sites were identified on imaging in 24% of patients. An increased number of bleeding sites was associated with need for vasopressors (difference in bleeding sites 3.00 [95% CI 0.99–4.00], p = 0.026). Conclusion: CT plays a key role in the diagnosis and work-up of adulterated cannabinoid-associated coagulopathy. Characteristic signs include suburothelial hemorrhage and intramural bowel hematomas. Clinical relevance statement: Recognition of radiological signs of adulterated synthetic cannabinoid-associated coagulopathy is critical for optimizing outbreak control on the public health level and ensuring timely treatment on the individual patient level. Pediatric population represents the most vulnerable and at risk for unintentional poisoning, with children younger than 6 years old accounting for nearly half of poison exposures. Poisoning is a time‐dependent emergency. The need to reach a scientific agreement on diagnostic protocol and treatment seems to be crucial to reduce morbidity and mortality. Starting from a buprenorphine pediatric intoxication case, this article highlights the limits and pitfalls of the traditional diagnostic approach. Diagnosis of drug intoxication was achieved after several days when an in‐depth diagnostic investigation became necessary and complete forensic toxicological analyses were performed. Results evidenced an alarming lack of an unequivocal diagnostic protocol in case of suspect intoxication in structures not provided with a forensic toxicological service/unit. Collection of biological specimens according to forensic protocols at hospitalization plays a paramount role in the definitive diagnosis of intoxication. A diagnostic algorithm that focuses on medical history and biological specimen collection timing is herein proposed, in order to unify emergency approaches to the suspected poisoned child. Polymer resin-based solid amine are prospective adsorbents used in removing CO2 from biogas. Two commercial resins with different porous structures, AB-8 and ADS-17, were selected as supports to explore the influence of the support structures on adsorbent performance. It was discovered that macroporous channels greatly boost CO2 adsorption at higher PEI loadings (≥ 30%), and their influence is more critical than total pore volume or specific surface area, though their impact is minimal at low PEI loadings. ADS-17-40% PEI demonstrated outstanding CO2 adsorption of 208 mg·g−1 in its 16th cycle under specific operating conditions. Increasing gas flow rate to 200 mL·min−1 could promote CO2 adsorption capacity and initial adsorption rate constant (k0) calculated by the deactivation model. Brodifacoum exerts its antagonistic effect against the metabolism of vitamin K, an essential component in the synthesis of blood coagulation factors. This effect ultimately hinders the blood's capacity to clot effectively, rendering it a commonly employed rodenticide. Instances of lethal poisonings are exceedingly rare owing to expeditious medical intervention and treatment. Within this report, we present a case of brodifacoum-induced homicide, wherein the patient exhibited distinct clinical examinations and symptoms. Moreover, the patient's blood sample exhibited a noteworthy brodifacoum concentration of 0.681 µg/mL even after a period of 43 days following the incident of poisoning. Although an autopsy was not conducted due to religious restrictions, we endeavor to reasonably deduce the cause of death and furnish corroborative evidence for clinical diagnosis, treatment, and forensic examination in instances involving brodifacoum poisoning. Purpose: In this study, we assess how the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic influenced the suicide risk of patients with severe mental disorders in Germany. Methods: We analyzed German health insurance claims data to compare the suicide risk of patients with severe mental disorders before and during the pandemic. We included n = 690,845 patients between October 2019 and March 2020 and n = 693,457 patients the corresponding period of the previous year and applied entropy balancing to adjust for confounding covariates. Given that the cause of death was unknown, we defined potential suicides as deaths of patients with a history of intentional self-harm whose passing could not be explained by COVID-19. Potential suicides were tracked in both cohorts over one year and compared using logistic regression. Results: 128 potential suicides were identified in the period during and 101 before the pandemic. This corresponded to a significant increase in the risk for potential suicide of 27.4% compared to the control period (β = 0.24, z = 1.82, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The noticeable increase in the risk for potential suicide for patients with severe pre-existing mental disorders emphasizes the call for additional efforts to prevent suicide and to help patients cope with their mental illness in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis. Objectives. To identify relationships between US states' COVID-19 in-person activity limitation and economic support policies and drug overdose deaths among working-age adults in 2020. Methods. We used county-level data on 140 435 drug overdoses among adults aged 25 to 64 years during January 2019 to December 2020 from the National Vital Statistics System and data on states' COVID-19 policies from the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker to assess US trends in overdose deaths by sex in 3138 counties. Results. Policies limiting in-person activities significantly increased, whereas economic support policies significantly decreased, overdose rates. A 1-unit increase in policies restricting activities predicted a 15% average monthly increase in overdose rates for men (incident rate ratio [IRR] = 1.15; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.09, 1.20) and a 14% increase for women (IRR = 1.14; 95% CI = 1.09, 1.20). A 1-unit increase in economic support policies predicted a 3% average monthly decrease for men (IRR = 0.97; 95% CI = 0.95, 1.00) and a 4% decrease for women (IRR = 0.96; 95% CI = 0.93, 0.99). All states' policy combinations are predicted to have increased drug-poisoning mortality. Conclusions. The economic supports that states enacted were insufficient to fully mitigate the adverse relationship between activity limitations and drug overdoses. The mechanisms of medium- and low-temperature denitrations using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) by combined CO + NH3 on Mn–Ce/activated carbon (AC) catalysts and their poisoning by SO2 were investigated. Several Mn–Ce/AC catalysts prepared and then poisoned by SO2 were used in the study. The physicochemical properties of the catalysts were systematically characterized before and after poisoning, and the mechanism of SO2 poisoning was proposed. SO2 poisoning considerably affects the Mn–Ce/AC catalyst, decreasing its denitration rate from 98% to 47.9% and N2 selectivity from 96 to 85%. This can be attributed to several phenomena. SO2 poisoning increases the surface roughness of the catalyst and results in the formation of Mn(SO4)2, other sulfates, and other substances, which block the catalyst pores and reduce the content of the C and O elements on the catalyst surface as well as its specific surface area, consequently decreasing the adsorption area available for the reaction gas. Moreover, the crystallinity of MnOx on the surface of the catalyst increases, decreasing the contents of Mn4+, Ce4+ and chemosorbed oxygen. In addition, the surface functional groups, such as –COOH, –OH, and C=O, are destroyed, reducing the adsorption sites of the reaction gas and the adsorption capacity of the catalyst, consequently inhibiting the SCR reaction. Ce can reduce the effects of SO2 poisoning on the catalyst because Ce4+ can improve its oxygen storage capacity, increase the adsorption sites for the reaction gas, and react with SO2, preventing sulfate formation and pore blockage. However, excessive Ce loading causes metal agglomeration on the catalyst surface, reducing its denitration efficiency. After SO2 poisoning, the contents of Mn4+, Mn3+, and Ce4+ decreased in the Mn -Ce/AC catalysts, inhibiting the synergistic reaction between Mn and Ce, which decreased the number of oxygen vacancies and Oβ, consequently inhibit the reaction's conversion to fast selective catalytic reduction. Thus, SO2 destroyed the functional groups; occupied the oxygen vacancies and active site; and destroyed the –COOH, O–H, and C=O functional groups on the surface of the Mn–Ce/AC catalyst, reducing the acidity and number of active sites on the catalyst surface. • Dioscorea bulbifera L. is well known for its diverse chemical composition and medicinal applications. • This systemic review covers the ethnobotany, phytochemistry, pharmacological importance and toxicity of D. bulbifera L. • Various clinical studies included in this review validate the folk usage of this herb. • The findings presented herein provide a stepping stone for future investigations into the mechanism of action of the formulations or metabolites derived from it and delve into their potential as pharmaceutical agents. Dioscorea bulbifera L. (Dioscoreaceae) is extensively being used in African, Chinese and Indian traditional medicinal systems since ages. It is an ingredient in many herbal and Ayurvedic preparations that are used against various ailments. The current study is aimed to systematically review and document findings on ethnobotany, phytochemistry, pharmacology, nutritive value and toxicity of the herb. The study is intended to overcome the inconsistency between the traditional and pharmacological applications of the herb concerning its folkloric use and offer novel insights for future researchers. The literature was systematically collected from various offline and online sources using relevant keywords. Electronic databases including Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, Springer Online, Research Gate, Scopus etc. were used to retrieve the relevant information. D. bulbifera L. is widespread in tropical and temperate regions of Asia, Africa and America. In traditional medicinal systems, it is used widely to cure sore throat, skin diseases, ulcers, boils, piles, pain, inflammation, dog bites, snake bites, food poisoning, asthma, cough, tuberculosis, cold, jaundice, malaria, typhoid of children, contraceptives, diabetes, ophthalmia, pink eye conjunctivitis etc. Among bioactive constituents, aglycone types of steroidal saponins dioscorin(e), dioscin(e), diosbulbin, and diosgenin possess significant biological activities. The chemical structures of the phytoconstituents presented in this review are drawn using ChemDraw Ultra software. The clinical studies included in this review have been performed to validate the folk usage of this herb. However, more studies are required to be done on scientific and clinical aspects to support its therapeutic applications. The updated information provided in this systematic review would open new perspectives for performing in-depth analysis of pharmacological research in future. The health risks (non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk) were calculated in both adults and children, using target hazard quotient (THQ) and carcinogenic risk (CR). The concentrations of Cd, Pb, and Ni were higher than the standard limits but they did not pose any non-carcinogenic health risks in adult and children's consumers (THQ <1). Meanwhile, the risk assessment of iAs indicates THQ > 1 for children in Egypt. Moreover, the THQ value due to Me Hg for adult in Tunisia and for children in Tunisia, Malta, Portugal, Latvia, Cambogia, Peru, South Korea, Romania, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Egypt was higher than 1 value. In addition, the calculated CR values of iAs for the adults and children were within the threshold risk of developing cancer (Between 1.00E–4 to 1.00E–6). Summary: Camellia sinensis var. shan is a special tea variety in Vietnam that is in high demand, especially its fermented products. This study compared the total polyphenol content (TPC), antioxidant activity, cytotoxicity, and microbiome of a green Shan tea and a five‐year‐old fermented Shan tea. Folin–Ciocalteu, DPPH and SRB assays were used for TPC, antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity evaluation. The isolated microbes were morphologically and molecularly identified. The TPC (126.59 mg g−1) and antioxidant activity (IC50 of 284.82 μg mL−1) of the green tea were significantly higher than those of the fermented tea. However, the latter showed a significantly higher cytotoxicity against liver cancer cells (inhibiting 73.84% cells at 1 mg mL−1). Notably, the green tea had a negligible number of microbes, but the fermented tea had a much richer microbiome with Aspergillus restrictus (4.7 × 104 CFU g−1), A. ruber (1.76 × 103 CFU g−1), A. pseudoglaucus (1.32 × 103 CFU g−1), A. cibarius (8.8 × 102 CFU g−1), Bacillus cereus (1.13 × 104 CFU g−1), Peribacillus frigoritolerans (4.0 × 102 CFU g−1) and B. amyloliquefaciens (2.0 × 102 CFU g−1) present. These microbes are either harmless or beneficial, except for B. cereus (can cause food poisoning at >106 CFU g−1). The fermented tea would appear to have some advantages over the green tea. History of suicide attempt (SA) is the strongest predictor of a new SA and suicide. It is primordial to identify additional risk factors of suicide re-attempt. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors of suicide re-attempt in patients with recent SA followed for 2 years. In this multicentric cohort of adult inpatients, the median of the index SA before inclusion was 10 days. Clinicians assessed a large panel of psychological dimensions using validated tools. Occurrence of a new SA or death by suicide during the follow-up was recorded. A cluster analysis was used to identify the dimensions that best characterized the population and a variable "number of personality traits" was created that included the three most representative traits: anxiety, anger, and anxious lability. Risk factors of re-attempt were assessed with adjusted Cox regression models. Among the 379 patients included, 100 (26.4 %) re-attempted suicide and 6 (1.6 %) died by suicide. The two major risk factors of suicide re-attempt were no history of violent SA and presenting two or three personality traits among trait anxiety, anger and anxious lability. It was impossible to know if treatment change during follow-up occur before or after the re-attempt. One of the most important predictors of re-attempt in suicide attempters with mood disorders, was the presence of three personality traits (anger, anxiety, and anxious lability). Objective(s): Paraquat (PQ), a potent environmental herbicide, is recognized for inducing irreparable toxic damage to biological systems. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and broccoli extract, individually and in combination, in alleviating PQ poisoning in rats, leveraging the exceptional anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties of broccoli. Materials and Methods: Seventy Wistar rats were categorized into seven groups: C (control, vehicle), PQ (paraquat at 40 mg/kg), BC (broccoli extract at 300 mg/kg), NC (N-acetylcysteine at the same dose of 300 mg/kg), and combined groups PQ+BC, PQ+NC, and NC+PQ+BC, all administered equivalent doses. After 42 days, blood samples were collected to evaluate liver and kidney parameters, proinflammatory biomarkers, caspase-3, and caspase-9. Lung tissues were excised, with one part preserved for hydroxyproline and oxidative stress parameter measurement and another sectioned and stained for histopathological analysis. Results: The PQ group exhibited the highest lung-to-body weight (LW/BW) ratio, while the PQ+BC+NC group demonstrated the lowest ratio. Results indicated an elevated lung hydroxyproline concentration and a significant reduction in anti-oxidant enzymes (catalase, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and total anti-oxidant capacity) (P<0.001). The PQ+BC group showed modified malondialdehyde levels, reaching a peak in the PQ group. Additionally, a significant decrease in tumor necrosis factor, interleukin-1, caspase-3, and caspase-9 was observed in the PQ+BC+NC group (P<0.01). Pulmonary edema, hyperemia, and severe hemorrhage observed in the PQ group were notably reduced in the PQ+BC+NC group. The direct Z-scheme system of UiO-66@Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S greatly boosts the photocatalytic hydrogen generation synchronized with fluoroquinolone antibiotics degradation to realize mutually reinforcing synergy for energy conversion and wastewater treatment. [Display omitted] Optimized fabrication of Z-scheme photocatalyst based on MOF materials offers sustainable energy generation and environmental improvement due to their attractive properties. The Z-scheme heterojunctions consisting of UiO-66 cubes covered with Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S nanoparticles were fabricated by a facile solvothermal method. Thanks to the Z-scheme carrier transport under simulated sunlight irradiation, UiO-66@Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S exhibited enhanced photocatalytic performance of H 2 generation synchronized with organic pollutant degradation in fluoroquinolone antibiotic wastewater. Synergistically, the highest comprehensive performance was obtained in ciprofloxacin solution. The H 2 yield reached 224 μmol∙ g−1∙ h−1 and simultaneously the removal efficiency was up to 83.6 %. The degradation pathways revealed that the process of piperazine ring cleavage and decarboxylation also generates H protons, further promoting the production of H 2. Therefore, the effective spatial separation and transfer of the photoinduced carriers are attributed to the good band structure, large specific surface area, and cooperative reduction and oxidation reactions of UiO-66@Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S, resulting in significant photocatalytic activity. The toxicity assessment of antibiotics and intermediate products during the photocatalytic reaction also verifies the reduction of environmental risk. In this study, we aimed to determine if previous carbon monoxide poisoning was associated with an increased risk of lung diseases.The study population was derived from the National Health Insurance Service database of Korea between 1 January 2002 and 31 December 2021. Adults with carbon monoxide poisoning, with at least one visit to medical facilities between 2002 and 2021, were included. For comparison, an equal number of matched controls with the same index date were selected from the database.A total of 28,618 patients with carbon monoxide poisoning and 28,618 matched controls were included in this study. Approximately 42.8 per cent of the patient and control groups were female, with a mean age of 51.3 years. In patients with carbon monoxide poisoning, there was a significant increase in the risk of lung cancer (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.84; 95 per cent confidence interval, 1.42–2.39; P < 0.001), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.60; 95 per cent confidence interval, 1.36–1.89; P < 0.001), pulmonary tuberculosis (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.46; 95 per cent confidence interval, 1.13–1.88; P = 0.003), and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infection (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.54; 95 per cent confidence interval, 1.01–2.36; P = 0.047).In this retrospective cohort study, previous carbon monoxide poisoning was associated with an increased risk of lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary tuberculosis, and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of the most common opioid receptor mu1 polymorphism (A118G) and any relationship between this polymorphism and features following tramadol overdose.This was a cross-sectional study of patients admitted with tramadol poisoning to an Iranian hospital. These patients were not taking any other drugs or medications and had no history of seizures.The results showed that among the 83 patients included in the study, 57 (69 per cent) had the AA genotype, 25 (30 per cent) had the AG genotype, and one (1 per cent) had the GG genotype for the opioid receptor mu1 A118G polymorphism. Nausea and/or vomiting occurred in nine (11 per cent) patients and dizziness in 38 (46 per cent) patients. Serious adverse events included seizures in 51 (60 per cent) patients and respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation in 21 (25 per cent) patients. However, there was no significant association between the opioid receptor mu1 A118G polymorphism and these adverse events.In our study, the frequency of the A allele was greater than the G allele, and the AA genotype was more prevalent than AG. The GG genotype was the least common among the polymorphisms of opioid receptor mu1 rs1799971. There was no significant association between the opioid receptor mu1 A118G polymorphism and symptoms in tramadol-poisoned patients. Although these allele proportions are similar to the results reported in other Caucasian populations, they are dissimilar to the findings in Chinese and Singaporean populations. In these Asian studies, the predominant allele was the G allele. It has been suggested that a mutated G allele will decrease the production of opioid receptor mu1-related messenger ribonucleic acid and related proteins, leading to fewer mu-opioid receptors in the brain.This study found no significant association between the opioid receptor mu1 A118G polymorphism and adverse outcomes in tramadol-poisoned patients. The aim of this study was to assess the factors contributing to morbidity and mortality in cases of acute paraphenylenediamine poisoning, with a focus on evaluating the resultant hepatic and cardiac toxicity.This observational study was conducted on patients with acute paraphenylenediamine poisoning presenting to Sohag University Hospitals, and included a retrospective part from February 2021 to January 2022 and a prospective part from February 2022 to July 2022. Clinical data were extracted and receiver operating characteristic curves created to identify prognostic markers.Among 50 eligible patients 39 (78 percent) recovered, and 11 (22 percent) died or had permanent complications. Angioedema and anuria were the most frequent features in complicated cases. By receiver operating characteristic analysis, either an increase in aspartate aminotransferase activity greater than 644 IU/L or alanine aminotransferase activity greater than 798 IU/L, a time delay to presentation of greater than 4.5 hours, and a pH of less than 7.32 were associated with a significant increase in morbidity and mortality. While cardiac enzyme activities, and concentrations of blood urea nitrogen and creatinine increased in most cases, they were not associated with mortality.Management of patients with paraphenylenediamine poisoning is mainly supportive, as there is no specific antidote. Respiratory failure and kidney failure are the most life threatening complications. Hepatoxicity and cardiotoxicity also occur. We report two cases of tralopyril poisoning via inhalation.Two workers developed heat intolerance, diaphoresis, and weight loss after occupational inhalational exposure to tralopyril. Patient 1: The exposure was due to the absence of respiratory protection. Magnetic resonance imaging showed abnormal signals in the bilateral periventricular white matter, corpus callosum, basal ganglia, brainstem, and spinal cord. The patient’s blood tralopyril concentrations on days 1, 3, 5, 8, and 11 post-admission were 1.09 mg/L, 1.04 mg/L, 1.01 mg/L, 0.71 mg/L, and 0.313 mg/L, respectively. Haemoperfusion (HA330), haemoperfusion (HA380), and haemodiafiltration were performed on days 1–3, 5–8, and 9–10, respectively. Patient 2: The patient’s symptoms followed inappropriate use of respiratory protection. His blood tralopyril concentrations on days 1, 4, 5, and 6 were 0.592 mg/L, 0.482 mg/L, 0.370 mg/L, and 0.228 mg/L, respectively.The patients presented with features typical of chlorfenapyr poisoning, which suggests that tralopyril is the main toxic metabolite of chlorfenapyr.Tralopyril can be absorbed by inhalation, leading to delayed clinical symptoms and organ damage, including toxic encephalopathy and spinal cord damage. Background Methods Results Conclusions Phosphide metal poisoning results in tens of thousands of fatalities per year worldwide. The mortality in critically ill patients often exceeds 50%. The available treatment is supportive and there is no antidote. Dialysis is recommended to treat advanced complications but has not been prescribed early in the process. In this study we report our experience in using dialysis in the early hours of presentation of the patients and suggest it can favorably improve the prognosis. We also draw attention to the risk of suicide under conditions of chronic conflict such as those in northwestern Syria, and to the lack of necessary mental health support for patients after suicide attempts.Retrospective review of records of patients poisoned with aluminum phosphide and admitted to critical care facilities in northwestern Syria between July 2022 and June 2023.During the observation period 16 cases were encountered. Suicide was the reason of the poisoning in 15 patients, the median patient age was 18 years and over two thirds of the patients were female. Early dialysis was used in 11 patients who were critically ill and their mortality rate was 18%.Phosphide metal poisoning is common in the disasters stricken area of northwestern Syria. Iridium-based catalysts exhibit promising potential for large-scaled hydrogen production from formic acid due to their high activity and stability in base-free aqueous solutions. However, their reactivity and lifetimes are highly pressure dependent, diminishing substantially under pressurized conditions necessary for the suppression of foam formation, imposing grand challenges for both fundamental understanding and practical applications. In this work, the deactivation mechanism is elucidated. Through a combination of experimental analyses and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, ligand dissociation and hydrogen poisoning are identified as the major deactivation pathways. A kinetic model resulted from the mechanism suggests that the deactivation is also inversely correlated to the catalyst concentration, verified by experiments. Built upon these deactivation insights, a 10-fold increase in reaction rate and a 2.5-fold increase in catalyst lifetime under pressure have been successfully realized by the addition of ligand that suppresses both ligand dissociation and hydrogen poisoning. Hydrogen is gaining prominence in global efforts to combat greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. While steam methane reforming remains the predominant method of hydrogen production, alternative approaches such as water electrolysis and methane cracking are gaining attention. The bridging technology – methane cracking – has piqued scientific interest with its lower energy requirement (74.8 kJ/mol compared to steam methane reforming 206.278 kJ/mol) and valuable by-product of filamentous carbon. Nevertheless, challenges, including coke formation and catalyst deactivation, persist. This review focuses on two main reactor types for catalytic methane decomposition – fixed-bed and fluidised bed. Fixed-bed reactors excel in experimental studies due to their operational simplicity and catalyst characterisation capabilities. In contrast, fluidised-bed reactors are more suited for industrial applications, where efforts are focused on optimising the temperature, gas flow rate, and particle characterisation. Furthermore, investigations into various fluidised bed regimes aim to identify the most suitable for potential industrial deployment, providing insights into the sustainable future of hydrogen production. Carbon shell encapsulation has emerged as an effective strategy for enhancing the durability of Pt-based electrocatalysts for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEFCs). Here, a nitrogen-doped carbon shell-encapsulated Pt catalyst supported on Ketjen black (Pt@C/KB) was synthesized, and its catalytic performance was characterized. The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance and anti-poisoning properties were investigated in 0.1 M HClO 4 with and without H 2 SO 4 or H 3 PO 4 poisoning, using a rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE) technique. Despite a decrease in the electrochemical surface area (ECSA), Pt@C/KB encapsulated by a thin graphene-like carbon shell (<1 nm thick) showed high selectivity for the four-electron reaction due to its superior anti-poisoning properties, as well as improved ORR activity and durability. The H 2 O 2 yield of Pt@C/KB, the precursor of hydroxyl radicals, was decreased approximately one third compared to bare Pt catalyst and the gap was more pronounced in the low potential (E ≤ 0.1 V/RHE) where close to practical anode potential, suggesting that Pt@C/KB can be applied as a new anode catalyst. AbstractIntroductionMethodsResultsDiscussionConclusionsIn 2023, two fatalities attributed to the ingestion of uncooked morels (Morchella spp.) were reported in the United States; both patients developed severe gastrointestinal symptoms. Morel-induced gastrointestinal toxicity is well recognized, but no deaths had been reported until 2023, suggesting a potential shift in the severity of morel poisoning.Using the Poisoning Severity Score, we analyzed the severity of symptomatic cases of morel ingestion recorded in the French National Database of Poisonings from 2010 to 2020.We found 446 cases of exposure in which morels were the sole mushroom species involved. Of these, 83.6 per cent and 53.3 per cent developed gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms, respectively. Eight patients developed shock attributed to severe gastrointestinal symptoms, resulting in two deaths.Morel ingestion can lead to severe complications. As in the United States, the deaths reported in this study were attributed to imported cultivated morels. The shift, since 2006, towards a predominance of cultivated over wild morel sales may have played a role in the reporting of severe cases of morel poisoning.Reports of severe morel poisoning highlight the need for cautious consumption, particularly of raw or undercooked preparations. Exogenous, well‐established antioxidant N‐acetylcysteine can reduce or prevent the deleterious effects of pesticides. In this study, utilizing a mouse model of daily single dose of N‐acetylcysteine administration, we investigated the impact of this adjuvant on the treatment with atropine and/or obidoxime as well as oxidative stress response in pyrimiphos‐methyl‐induced toxicity. We found that N‐acetylcysteine significantly reduces the oxidative stress generated by pyrimiphos‐methyl. The therapy consisting of atropine and/or obidoxime routinely used in organophosphorous insecticide poisonings, including pyrimiphos‐methyl, had no effect on the antioxidant properties of N‐acetylcysteine. We aimed to investigate the clinical effects of chlorpromazine overdose and determine if there is a relationship between the reported dose ingested and intensive care unit admission or endotracheal intubation.We performed a retrospective analysis of patients admitted to our toxicology tertiary referral hospital with chlorpromazine overdose (reported dose ingested greater than 300 mg) between 1987 and 2023. We extracted demographic information, details of ingestion, clinical effects and complications (Glasgow Coma Scale, hypotension [systolic blood pressure less than 90 mmHg], delirium, dysrhythmias), length of stay, intensive care unit admission, and endotracheal intubation.There were 218 chlorpromazine overdose cases, with presentations decreasing in frequency over the 36 years. The median age at presentation was 32 years (interquartile range: 25–40 years) and 143 (61 per cent) were female. The median reported dose ingested was 1,250 mg (interquartile range; 700–2,500 mg). The majority of presentations (135; 62 per cent) involved reported co-ingestion of other medications, typically benzodiazepines, paracetamol or antipsychotics. There were 76 (35 per cent) chlorpromazine alone ingestions in which there was a slightly higher median reported dose ingested of 1,650 mg (interquartile range: 763–3,000 mg) compared to the reported co-ingestion group, median reported dose ingested of 1,200 mg (interquartile range: 700–2,100 mg). Of all presentations, 36 (27 per cent) had a Glasgow Coma Scale less than 9, 50 (23 per cent) were admitted to the intensive care unit, and 32 (15 per cent) were endotracheally intubated. There was a significant difference in the median reported dose ingested between patients intubated (2,000 mg; interquartile range: 1,388–3,375 mg) and those not intubated (1,200 mg; interquartile range: 644–2,050mg; P < 0.001), and between those admitted to the intensive care unit and not admitted to the intensive care unit (P < 0.0001). The median reported dose ingested in seven chlorpromazine alone presentations who were intubated was 2,500 mg (interquartile range: 2,000–8,000 mg, range: 1,800–20,000 mg). Eighteen (8 per cent) patients developed delirium, eight (4 per cent) had hypotension, three had seizures, and there was one death.Almost one quarter of cases were admitted to the intensive care unit and over half of these were intubated. Whist the decision to admit to an intensive care unit or intubate a patient is based on clinical need, there was a significant association between reported dose ingested and requirement for endotracheal intubation. Both the frequency of presentation and reported dose ingested declined after 2013. The major limitations of the study were a retrospective design and no analytical confirmation of ingestion.We found that the most common effect of chlorpromazine overdose was central nervous system depression and that endotracheal intubation was associated with larger reported doses ingested, particularly in single chlorpromazine ingestions. Objectives: In Canada, substance-related accidental acute toxicity deaths (AATDs) continue to rise at the national and sub-national levels. However, it is unknown if, where, when, and to what degree AATDs cluster in space, time, and space–time across the country. The objectives of this study were to 1) assess for clusters of AATDs that occurred in Canada during 2016 and 2017 at the national and provincial/territorial (P/T) levels, and 2) examine the substance types detected in AATD cases within each cluster. Methods: Two years of person-level data on AATDs were abstracted from coroner and medical examiner files using a standardized data collection tool, including the decedent's postal code and municipality information on the places of residence, acute toxicity (AT) event, and death, and the substances detected in the death. Data were combined with Canadian census information to create choropleth maps depicting AATD rates by census division. Spatial scan statistics were used to build Poisson models to identify clusters of high rates (p < 0.05) of AATDs at the national and P/T levels in space, time, and space–time over the study period. AATD cases within clusters were further examined for substance types most present in each cluster. Results: Eight clusters in five regions of Canada at the national level and 24 clusters in 15 regions at the P/T level were identified, highlighting where AATDs occurred at far higher rates than the rest of the country. The risk ratios of identified clusters ranged from 1.28 to 9.62. Substances detected in clusters varied by region and time, however, opioids, stimulants, and alcohol were typically the most commonly detected substances within clusters. Conclusion: Our findings are the first in Canada to reveal the geographic disparities in AATDs at national and P/T levels using spatial scan statistics. Rates associated with substance types within each cluster highlight which substance types were most detected in the identified regions. Findings may be used to guide intervention/program planning and provide a picture of the 2016 and 2017 context that can be used for comparisons of the geographic distribution of AATDs and substances with different time periods. Biogas has emerged as renewable source of CH 4 towards energy decarbonization in recent years. Among the biogas valorization routes, the dry reforming of methane (DRM) process is particularly interesting for H 2 production. However, the development of new catalysts with high metal dispersion and coke resistance is a significant challenge, particularly under industrial condition. Therefore, this work studies the performance of Ni@Ce x Zr 1-x O 2 catalysts with different Ce/Zr molar ratios for the dry reforming and bi-reforming of methane reactions. The addition of Zr promotes the Ni dispersion and the oxygen mobility of the support, leading to enhanced resistance to coke formation. Additionally, H 2 O suppresses coke formation under high CH 4 /CO 2 molar ratio, but catalyst deactivation is still observed. Finally, an optimal Ce/Zr molar ratio (i.e., 4.0) is achieved, demonstrating remarkable resistance to coke formation and high CH 4 and CO 2 conversion rates through the control of Ni particle size and the promotion of oxygen mobility. • Ni@Ce x Zr 1-x O 2 with various Ce/Zr ratios were tested for dry reforming of methane. • Decreasing Ce/Zr molar ratio decreased the Ni particle size and oxygen mobility. • Ni@CeZrO 2 (Ce/Zr = 4) exhibits the highest activity without carbon formation. • Ni@CeZrO 2 (Ce/Zr = 1 and 0.25) deactivated due to Ni oxidation. Biogas dry reforming or dry reforming of methane (DRM) is an alternative to produce hydrogen, in the context of development of sustainable routes for energy production, since this route uses CH 4 and CO 2 , two greenhouse gases as reactants. However, the deactivation of catalysts due to carbon deposition and sintering is the main drawback of this reaction. In this work, with the aim of minimizing carbon formation and sintering during DRM, the effect of lithium as a promoter in catalysts Ni–Al derived from layered double hydroxides was investigated. The catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation and characterized by different techniques: BET surface area (S BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), CO 2 and H 2 temperature-programmed desorption (CO 2 -TPD and H 2 -TPD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM-EDS), temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO). The catalytic tests were carried out in a fixed bed reactor using a synthetic biogas (60% CH 4 and 40% CO 2) in the temperature range of 500–750 °C. The incorporation of Li into the Ni–Al-LDH changed the reducibility and basicity of the catalysts. The Li2 sample containing an intermediary amount of Li (5 wt%) showed the highest reduction temperature and highest density of basic sites, which resulted in the smallest Ni crystallite size before and after the reactions. As a result, this catalyst presented the greater resistance to sintering and a lower rate of carbon produced. For the reaction carried out at 700 °C, only the Li2 catalyst remaining active during the test and reaching a maximum of 80% and a final CH 4 conversion of 54% after 480 min of reaction, whereas CO 2 conversion was higher than 90%. All other samples deactivated at different rates due to carbon deposition and sintering. Arsenic, existing in various chemical forms such as arsenate (As(V)) and arsenite (As(III)), demands serious attention in water and environmental contexts due to its significant health risks. It is classified as "carcinogenic to humans" by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and is listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the top 10 chemicals posing major public health concerns. This widespread contamination results in millions of people globally being exposed to dangerous levels of arsenic, making it a top priority for the WHO. Chronic arsenic toxicity, known as arsenicosis, presents with specific skin lesions like pigmentation and keratosis, along with systemic manifestations including chronic lung diseases, liver issues, vascular problems, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cancer, often leading to fatal outcomes. Therefore, it is crucial to explore novel, cost-effective, and reliable methods with rapid response and improved sensitivities (detection limits). Most of the traditional detection techniques often face limitations in terms of complexity, cost, and the need for sophisticated equipment requiring skilled analysts and procedures, which thereby impedes their practical use, particularly in resource-constrained settings. Colorimetric methods leverage colour changes which are observable and quantifiable using simple instrumentation or even visual inspection. This review explores the colorimetric techniques designed to detect arsenite and arsenate in water. It covers recent developments in colorimetric techniques, and advancements in the role of nanomaterials in colorimetric arsenic detection, followed by discussion on current challenges and future prospects. The review emphasizes efforts to improve sensitivity, selectivity, cost, and portability, as well as the role of advanced materials/nanomaterials to boost the performance of colorimetric assays/sensors towards combatting this pervasive global health concern. Humans are continuously exposed to various heavy metals including copper, iron, cadmium, and arsenic, which were specifically selected for the current analysis because they are among the most frequently encountered environmental mankind and industrial pollutants potentially causing human health hazards and liver injury. So far, these issues were poorly assessed and remained a matter of debate, also due to inconsistent results. The aim of the actual report is to thoroughly analyze the positive as well as negative effects of these four heavy metals on human health. Copper and iron are correctly viewed as pollutant elements essential for maintaining human health because they are part of important enzymes and metabolic pathways. Healthy individuals are prepared through various genetically based mechanisms to maintain cellular copper and iron homeostasis, thereby circumventing or reducing hazardous liver and organ injury due to excessive amounts of these metals continuously entering the human body. In a few humans with gene aberration, however, liver and organ injury may develop because excessively accumulated copper can lead to Wilson disease and substantial iron deposition to hemochromatosis. At the molecular level, toxicities of some heavy metals are traced back to the Haber Weiss and Fenton reactions involving reactive oxygen species formed in the course of oxidative stress. On the other hand, cellular homeostasis for cadmium and arsenic cannot be provided, causing their life-long excessive deposition in the liver and other organs. Consequently, cadmium and arsenic represent health hazards leading to higher disability-adjusted life years and increased mortality rates due to cancer and non-cancer diseases. For unknown reasons, however, liver injury in humans exposed to cadmium and arsenic is rarely observed. In sum, copper and iron are good for the human health of most individuals except for those with Wilson disease or hemochromatosis at risk of liver injury through radical formation, while cadmium and arsenic lack any beneficial effects but rather are potentially hazardous to human health with a focus on increased disability potential and risk for cancer. Mushroom poisoning contributes significantly to global foodborne diseases and related fatalities. Amanita mushrooms frequently cause such poisonings; however, identifying these toxic species is challenging due to the unavailability of fresh and intact samples. It is often necessary to analyze residues, vomitus, or stomach extracts to obtain DNA sequences for the identification of species responsible for causing food poisoning. This usually proves challenging to obtain usable DNA sequences that can be analyzed using conventional molecular biology techniques. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a DNA mini-barcoding method for the identification of Amanita species. Following the evaluation and optimization of universal primers for DNA mini-barcoding in Amanita mushrooms, we found that the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene sequence primer ITS-a was the most suitable DNA barcode primer for identifying Amanita species. Forty-three Amanita samples were subsequently amplified and sequenced. The sequences obtained were analyzed for intra- and inter-species genetic distances, and a phylogenetic tree was constructed. The findings indicated that the designed primers had strong universality among the Amanita samples and could accurately identify the target gene fragment with a length of 290 bp. Notably, the DNA mini-barcode accurately identified the 43 Amanita samples, demonstrating high consistency with the conventional DNA barcode. Furthermore, it effectively identified DNA from digested samples. In summary, this DNA mini-barcode is a promising tool for detecting accidental ingestion of toxic Amanita mushrooms. It may be used as an optimal barcode for species identification and traceability in events of Amanita-induced mushroom poisoning. AbstractObjectiveMethodsResultsConclusionsTo independently validate the negative predictive value of the Tanta University risk model for intensive care requirements in poison center telephone consultations with other physicians.This study included 400 consecutive patients with acute poisoning. Clinical and laboratory parameters were recorded during the initial consultation with the poison center. Patients who were already ventilated or on vasopressors at the time of consultation were excluded. The Tanta University risk model score was calculated from the data according to the following equation: Tanta University risk model score = 1.966*Glasgow Coma Scale + 0.329*oxygen saturation (percent) + 0.212*diastolic blood pressure (mmHg) − 0.27*respiratory rate (breaths/minute) + 0.33*standard bicarbonate (mmol/L). Twenty-four hours later, the patients’ courses were followed up by telephone. The Tanta University risk model was then compared to a composite endpoint indicating the requirement for admission to an intensive care unit (vasopressors, need for intubation, or death).Four hundred patients with acute poisoning were included. Thirty-seven patients had a complicated clinical course as defined by the composite endpoint. Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed the area under the curve to be 0.87 (95 percent confidence interval 0.83–0.90). An unfavorable Tanta University risk model score was defined as less than 73.46, using a cut-off derived from a previous study of an unrelated series of patients with acute poisoning admitted to our service. Thirty-one of 37 patients with complicated courses had an unfavorable Tanta University risk model score compared to six patients with complicated courses among 306 patients with a favorable Tanta University risk model score (P < 0.0002, Fisher’s exact test). Sixty-three patients had an unfavorable Tanta University risk model score but an uneventful course. The negative predictive value of the Tanta University risk model was 0.98 (95 percent confidence interval 0.96–0.99), sensitivity was 0.84, and specificity 0.83.In the present study of poison center telephone consultations, the Tanta University risk model was significantly related to the outcomes in patients with acute poisoning. Background: Overdose-related suicide attempts represent a significant portion of self-harm presentations in the psychiatric emergency department (ED). Identifying specific patient characteristics associated with these attempts holds promise for pinpointing drug classes with elevated risk and paving the way for tailored suicide prevention interventions. This study aims to examine the demographic profiles of ED patients who had experienced overdose-related suicide attempts. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at Beijing Anding Hospital, Capital Medical University, from January 2020 to December 2021. Patients with psychiatric drug overdose suicide attempts presenting to the psychiatric ED were included. Sociodemographic characteristics and the specific classes of drugs involved were collected, and analysed descriptively. Results: This study examined 252 overdose patients, excluding 51 patients treated with alcohol or nonpsychiatric drugs, and a total 201 cases were included. The mean age of the patients was 28 ± 16 years (median 23, range 12–78), and 82% (n = 165) of the sample were females. Notably, nearly half (45%) of the patients were aged ≤ 20 years. While the number of cases decreased with increasing age, a significant increase was observed in 2021 compared to 2020. Benzodiazepines (BZDs) were the most frequently implicated substance class (n = 126, 63%), followed by antidepressants (n = 96, 48%), antipsychotics (n = 44, 22%), Z-drugs (n = 43, 21%), and mood stabilizers (n = 36, 18%). For adolescents, antidepressants (n = 52, 71%) overtook BZDs (n = 38, 52%) as the most common drug. The monthly distribution of cases revealed peaks in April and November. Furthermore, 21% (n = 42) of patients ingested more than two psychotropic medications concurrently. Finally, approximately half (n = 92) of the patients required inpatient admission for further treatment. Comparisons between hospitalized and nonhospitalized patients did not reveal any significant differences. Conclusions: The present study revealed a greater prevalence of suicide overdose attempts among young females receiving prescriptions for antidepressants and/or BZDs. This finding suggests a potential need for enhanced monitoring of suicidal behaviour in this specific population when prescribing psychotropic medications. These findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge regarding drug overdose suicide attempts in psychiatric emergency settings and underscore the importance of further research to develop targeted prevention interventions. Potential indicators identified through a literature review were rated on a 5‐point Likert scale and comments solicited. Descriptive statistics were used to demonstrate convergence of expert opinion, and consensus was reached in two rounds. Weights of each indicator were determined by analytic hierarchy process. There were 20 expert responses in Round 1 and 18 in Round 2.After two rounds, experts reached a consensus on definitions, calculation formulas, and data collection methods for these indicators. Three primary and 11 secondary indicators were included in the final nursing‐sensitive quality indicators for acute poisoning in the emergency department.A set of indicators about acute poisoning care, applicable to the Chinese context, was developed in collaboration with emergency nurse specialists.The lack of supervision of the nursing quality for acute poisoning leads to great variability in clinical practice in different medical institutions. The results can help in their standardization in China and in other countries lacking regulation. Our study also offers nursing managers a concrete and operable evaluation tool for quality supervision. Aim Methods Results Conclusion This study aimed to determine what proportion of children presenting to a tertiary children's hospital with ingestion were referred for child protection assessment, and to describe the characteristics of the referred group.This is a retrospective case series study of children who presented to a tertiary children's hospital between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2020 with ingestion (poisoning). Demographic and clinical data were collected from the electronic medical record and patients who underwent child protection assessment were identified. The child protection group was compared to the whole cohort. The child protection group had psychosocial data gathered and descriptively analysed.Two hundred and three patients were included. The most common substances ingested were over‐the‐counter medications (45%) followed by prescription medications (41%). Most patients were discharged from the emergency department (70%). Of the 203 patients, 24 (11.8%, 95% CI 7.72–17.08) were referred to the child protection unit. A significant proportion of these patients had a history of parental depression (64%) and other mental health conditions (41%), parent separation (77%) and domestic violence in the home (64%).The patients assessed by the child protection team had high prevalence of psychosocial risk factors that also place the patients at risk of child abuse and neglect. Most of the other patients did not have a psychosocial history documented in the medical record, and this group likely contains a high proportion of vulnerable children. The mesoporous HZSM‐5 and SnCl2@HZSM‐5 mesoporous composite were prepared by two‐step crystallization and wet impregnation method, respectively. The catalytic esterification performances of SnCl2, HZSM‐5 and SnCl2@HZSM‐5 were compared. SnCl2@HZSM‐5 had the most amount of total and weak acidity, and the weakest acid strength. More total acid content was beneficial to increase pentaerythritol conversion, and the weak acid could improve the selectivity of PETS, and weak acid strength was beneficial to inhibit the formation of carbon deposits. Brönsted and Lewis acid sites were present simultaneously on the SnCl2@HZSM‐5 catalyst. Moreover, some extra Brönsted acid sites were created on the SnCl2@HZSM‐5 catalyst, because the interaction of SnCl2 with HZSM‐5 may result in the exchange of Sn2+ with protons. Both acid sites could catalyze the esterification reaction, and the Brönsted acid site was more beneficial to increasing PETS selectivity. Therefore, SnCl2@HZSM‐5 showed the highest pentaerythritol conversion, PETS selectivity and catalytic stability. The generation of coke and the leaching of Sn were the main cause of catalyst deactivation. Under the optimized process conditions: 105 °C, 4.7 molar ratio of stearic acid and pentaerythritol, 1.2 wt % catalyst amount and 2.5 wt % SnCl2 loading, after 3 h reaction time, the pentaerythritol conversion, PETS selectivity and yield was 99.3 %, 97.2 % and 96.5 %, respectively. Introduction: Salmonella is one of the most common causes of food-borne outbreaks and infection worldwide. Non-typhoid Salmonella (NTS) infections are common and remain a significant public health problem among important bacterial foodborne diseases. The current study aimed to establish the Non typhoid Salmonella infection and antimicrobial resistance status among selected patients at Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH), Morogoro Region, Tanzania, to inform clinical care management and public health interventions. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted using medical records and samples were collected from hospitalised and outpatients between October and December 2021. A total of 153 participants were enrolled in the study and 132 consented to being sampled. The collected samples were analysed using standard microbiological techniques. The isolates were subjected to molecular genotyping, where Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was performed targeting the 16S rDNA gene. PCR products were then submitted for sequencing to establish phylogenetic relatedness. Results: The phylogenetic analysis identified two Salmonella serovars; Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium. The isolates were from four adults and seven children patients. The isolates were tested against six antimicrobial agents: tetracycline, trimethoprim, gentamycin, ciprofloxacin, ampicillin and cefotaxime. Further antimicrobial assays were performed by screening 10 antimicrobial resistance genes using PCR. Overall, the highest resistance was observed in ampicillin (100%), whereas the lowest resistance was recorded for ciprofloxacin and gentamicin (9.1%). In addition, four (36.4%) of the isolates were resistant to cefotaxime and three (27.3%) to tetracycline and trimethoprim. The isolates also exhibit the presence of resistance genes for sulfamethoxazole 1&2, tetracycline (tet) A&B, Beta-lactamaseCTXM, Beta-lactamaseTEM, Beta-lactamaseSHV, Gentamycine, Acra and acc3-1 in different occurrences. In conclusion, the overall prevalence of Salmonella species in Morogoro region was 8.3% (11/132) with Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium being the only serovars detected from adults and children stool samples. Conclusion: Our investigation showed that both children and adults had been exposed to Salmonella spp. However, the occurrence of NTS was higher in children (5.3% (7/132) compared to adults (3.0% (4/132). To stop zoonotic infections and the development of antimicrobial resistance in the community, this calls for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and stewardship programmes on rational use of antimicrobials in both health facilities and at the community level. Author summary: Typhoid fever is claimed to prevail in Morogoro region. Most patients with stomach pain and or diarrhoea go for a diagnosis of typhoid despite the existence of other etiological agents causing the same clinical signs. Sample culture and isolation of bacteria have been a gold-standard method for the detection of disease-causing agents. However, this approach is rarely made by most hospitals, with the exception of regional and district hospitals in the public sector and big hospitals in the private sector. They always rely on the widal test, which suffers from significant limitations in its sensitivity and specificity. It is, therefore, difficult to identify appropriate etiological agents and assess their susceptibility to antimicrobials. Because of that, the contribution of non-typhoid salmonellosis is not featured. The authors have assessed the occurrence of non-typhoid Salmonella in hospitalized and outpatients of all age groups at Morogoro Regional Hospital as a modal to establish its contribution to gastrointestinal infections in the region through both conventional and molecular approaches. It was observed that the infection rate was high in children, and the no-typhoid Salmonella serovars had considerable resistance to the commonly used antimicrobial. Fast‐charging technology plays a pivotal role in propelling the commercialization of zinc‐air batteries (ZABs). While the lifetime of ZABs under fast‐charging is severely shortened by the abundant O2 bubbles and the deactivation of the cathode catalysts. Herein, a defective Mo─Co/N─C electrocatalyst is presented with Co nanoparticles and molybdenum‐oxo subnano clusters by pyrolyzing the Lindqvist polyoxometalate incorporated ZIF‐67 precursor. The crystalline defects are exacerbated by doping the polyoxometalate into the pores of ZIF‐67. Furthermore, the accessibility of the pore defects is increased by Mo‐leaching during the pre‐activation. These accessible pore defects effectively prevent the exfoliation of catalysts from the support under the attack of O2 bubbles, and improve the electrolyte penetration. Besides, the pore defects offer numerous active sites for the electrocatalytic reactions, resulting in an active and stable Mo─Co/N─C catalyst. Hence, such a Mo─Co/N─C electrocatalyst achieves a long lifetime of 1538 h at 5 mA cm−2, and a long lifetime of 641 h under a fast charge of 50 mA cm−2 in the homemade ZAB. Background: The aim of the study was to develop a technique for quantitative determination of rat urine metabolites by HPLC–MS/MS, which can be used to search for biomarkers of acute intoxication with organophosphates (OPs). Results: The content of metabolites in the urine of rats exposed to a single dose of paraoxon (POX1x); interval, twice daily administration of paraoxon (POX2x); exposure to 2-(o-cresyl)-4H-1, 3, 2-benzodioxaphosphorin-2-oxide and paraoxon (CBPOX) was investigated. New data were obtained on the content in the urine of intact rats as well as rats in 3 models of OP poisoning: 3-methylhistidine, threonine, creatine, creatinine, lactic acid, acetylcarnitine, inosine, hypoxanthine, adenine, 3-hydroxymethyl-butyrate and 2-hydroxymethyl-butyrate. Conclusions: The proposed assay procedure is a simple and reliable tool for urine metabolomic studies. Within 1–3 days after OP exposure in all three models of acute intoxication, the concentration of metabolites in rat urine, with the exception of adenine, changes similarly and symmetrically, regardless of the method of poisoning modeling, in all three models of acute intoxication. Further studies are needed to determine the specificity and reliability of using urinary metabolite concentration changes as potential biomarkers of acute organophosphate intoxication. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells require high-purity hydrogen. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a common impurity in hydrogen that significantly reduces the performance of PEM fuel cells. Currently, there are two main methods to eliminate the effect of CO: direct removal of CO and increasing the CO tolerance of PEM fuel cells. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. It is important to consider the specific application when choosing between these methods. This review summarizes the mechanism of CO poisoning and its effect on the operation and durability of PEM fuel cells, as well as hydrogen purification and CO-tolerant techniques. Then analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of commonly used techniques and predicts future research directions for PEM fuel cells using impure hydrogen containing CO, aiming to expand the application scenarios, and promote the large-scale application of PEM fuel cells. • Mechanisms of CO poisoning on PEM fuel cells are summarized. • Impacts on potential oscillation and durability are reviewed. • Various hydrogen purifications techniques are compared. • CO-tolerant techniques for PEM fuel cells are discussed. • Futher directions for research on eliminating CO effect are presented.
