While Aphra Behn's early life remains a mystery, her time in London and her allegiances are very well-documented. The persona she crafted throughout her whole career, which interacted with her readers in her paratexts, has, however, never been fully considered. Investigating the allusions and comments she makes in her epistles and prefaces can help fill in the blanks of what is known about her as well as revisit older ideas. This study explores and identifies the references she made and the communicative strategies she used in her epistle to the reader printed with The Dutch Lover (1673) and what they mean in terms of the self she crafted as a woman writing and publishing in Restoration London. The prefaces to Sir Edward Coke's 17th-century reports have a valuable role to play in the development of modern historical jurisprudence. The prefaces contain a unique legal philosophy. The jurisprudence of the prefaces is historical in that its central consideration is the role of the past in present law. The works of Frederic Maitland and Paul Vinogradoff reveal the primary weaknesses within this jurisprudence: Coke's conflation of legal and historical logic, and his insular notions of legal culture. Vinogradoff's model for the study of legal patterns provides the means of remedying these flaws. Coke's continued role in contemporary legal systems demonstrates the complexity of the relationship between history and law. From the perspective of a historian, Coke's work has limited validity. However, in the legal sphere, he continues to possess authority. The different meanings Coke takes on as a historical and legal figure demonstrate two areas of tension between law and history: (1) ahistorical practice lies at the heart of the common law; and (2) legal change can require the manipulation or misapplication of history. Ultimately, the prefaces provide three principles which should guide modern historical jurisprudence: (1) the law should be conceived of as a customary system; (2) past law guides present and future law and can do so in a way which facilitates modernity and legal evolution; and (3) change within the law must be viewed as a temporal phenomenon. If augmented with the works of Maitland and Vinogradoff, the jurisprudence of the prefaces may be the solution to the dissonances within the historical study of law that Coke's career and legacy make so clear. "The Putin Predicament: Problems of Legitimacy and Succession in Russia" by Bo Petersson is a book that examines the legitimacy of Vladimir Putin's rule in Russia. In some manuscripts, an astrological work titled Εἰσαγωγὴ εἰς τὴν Ἀποτελεσματικὴν τοῦ Πτολεμαίου is attributed to the philosopher Porphyry. The current scholarly consensus holds that chapters 1–45 are genuinely Porphyry's. In this article, this view is contested, and arguments are given that Εἰσαγωγή is in fact a late compilation of texts of various origin, few of which are to be soundly attributed to Porphyry. In January 1944, Tennessee Williams wrote "Homage to Ophelia," the foreword to his and Donald Windham's play , You Touched Me! Although the version published here was arguably Williams's final version, and it does bear a specific date, a brief look into the earlier versions of the draft tell a more complex story, not just about how Williams revised the foreword over several weeks, but also how he revised the play and, to a certain extent, himself. Comparing the earlier and later versions of the foreword demonstrates that the changes he made from the first to the final draft were influenced by certain professional and personal trials that Williams was experiencing at the time. Due to complications from the play's two imminent premieres and the deaths of his two beloved Roses (one symbolic, the other very real), the weeks closing 1943 and the days opening 1944 were traumatic enough for Williams to have him rethink entirely the content and tone of the foreword from earlier drafts, a reshaping that extended to the play itself and, with the current revisions of The Glass Menagerie, to his career in the theatre. The work analyzes, through the study of the dedications, the "social utility" that the editions of the Moreto's plays had during the seventeenth century. This methodological approach places the focus of the research on the dedications of the volumes and on the social, political and cultural context that involved that process. In the case of the edition of the First part of the works of Moreto (1654), the volume seems to be inserted in a general program of self-promotion of the VIII Duke of Alburquerque connected with other works and other authors that could be part of their cultural patronage. A different approach is observed when analysing the work of the editors of the Moreto's plays after his death. These publishers dedicate the work to "new nobles" and even to other characters of lower social status, who could subsidize all or part of the edition, so that in the text of the dedication, their family origin will be improved, assimilating thus more easily to his new superior social status. As noted in Part I of Special Sport Events which appeared in Volume 22, Issue 4 of the Journal of Sport Management, sport events are increasingly contributing to the economic and social development of cities, regions, and countries. The justification to host large-scale sport events is often done on the role these events play in building social capital, attracting tourists, foster trade relations, enhance the host destination's brand, and serve as catalysts for the development and improvements of infrastructures. It is imperative to understand the unique challenges of managing and marketing special sport events. We believe that Part I of the special issue on special sport events and this collection of articles (Part II) address many of the challenges related to these sport events. Introduction: Literature on functional outcomes after ankle surgery is for the most part limited to return to sport studies. The purpose of this study was to determine occupational and functional outcomes following operative treatment of unstable ankle fractures in the active duty military population.Materials and Methods: All ankle fractures treated with open reduction internal fixation at a single institution from 2013 to 2015 were reviewed. Inclusion criteria included active duty personnel with a single-sided injury requiring operative management. All patients had a minimum of 6 months follow-up. Forty-seven records were reviewed with 43 patients fitting these criteria. Patients were predominantly male (91%) with an average age of 26 years at the time of fracture. Functional outcomes were evaluated using AOFAS and SANE scores. Occupational outcomes were determined in reference to a service member's ability to return to full duty.Results: Of the 43 subjects, 81% (n = 35) returned to active duty. Of the eight individuals who did not return to active duty, six were medically boarded out of the military. Looking at demographic, surgical, and functional variables, only the SANE and AFAOS scores functional outcomes showed a significant correlation with individual return to duty. Individuals who reported less pain and increased functional outcomes had increased return to duty rates.Conclusion: This study sought to determine predictors for return to duty within an active duty military population after ORIF of unstable ankle fractures. Given the paucity of military literature on this subject, the end goal was to provide realistic recovery expectations for both injured service members and their command teams. Overall, 81% of patients were able to return to active duty following operative treatment of unstable ankle fractures. Introduction: The literature suggests that differential colorectal cancer (CRC) screening adherence exists between Canada's immigrant and nonimmigrant populations. This study explores the impact of Ontario's population screening program, ColonCancerCheck, on CRC screening uptake in immigrant and nonimmigrant population groups. Methods: Data from 2005, 2007‐2008, and 2011‐2012 was obtained from the Canadian Community Health Survey, to represent the intervention periods (the time periods before, during, and after implementation of the ColonCancerCheck intervention). Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine the effect of immigration status on the risk of nonadherence to guideline‐recommended CRC screening, and an interaction analysis was performed to determine whether the screening differential between immigrant and nonimmigrant populations changed upon introduction of the ColonCancerCheck program. Results: Recent and long‐term immigrants were both at increased risk of CRC screening nonadherence compared to the Canadian‐born population (OR 3.73 (CI 2.25‐6.18) and OR 1.24 (CI 1.13‐1.36), respectively). While not statistically significant, there was an attenuation of the risk of nonadherence to screening for recent immigrants compared with Canadian‐born individuals after the implementation of the ColonCancerCheck program. Conclusions: This study provides evidence of a screening differential between immigrants and nonimmigrants, and suggests that the implementation of the ColonCancerCheck screening program in Ontario may have increased colon screening uptake amongst recent immigrants. It is a long-held view that Ps 1, either alone or combined with Ps 2, performs the function of a preface to the »Book« of Psalms. Although supported by early Christian reception, much depends on how to understand תורת יהוה in Ps 1, as well as how to understand the relation between the first two psalms and the concept of the »Book« of Psalms. This article aims to look at the issue anew and provide some reasons why Pss 1-2 should not be considered as a preface to the »Book« of Psalms. First, an analysis of תורת יהוה in Ps 1:2 is provided, and it is argued that the expression does not refer to any collection of psalms but to a torah related to Moses. Secondly, the first attestation of the psalm in Qumran is revisited, namely the pesher designated as 4Q174, and it is argued that it does not show any trace of a paratextual understanding of Ps 1, nor that it provides the earliest attestation of a combined reading of Pss 1-2. Finally, a textual variant in Acts 13:33 is analyzed, as it provides an interesting window into the way Ps 1 came to be interpreted in the fourth century CE. Taken together, the observations challenge the well-established consensus that Pss 1-2 have been intentionally placed as a preface to the book. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
