Sport poses a number of important and no less significant questions, which, on the face of it, may not necessarily seem very important or significant to begin with – a peculiarity that we believe to be integral to sport itself. This article introduces, explores and outlines the psychoanalytic significance of this peculiarity. It explores how the emotions stirred by sport are intertwined with a realm of fiction and fantasy. Despite its lack of practical utility, sport carries an undeniable gravity, encapsulating the aspirations of communities, nations and continents. As a result, psychoanalysis can be used to critically reflect on the purpose and meaning of sport: that is, why do we need sport, and why, for large sections of the world's population, do we rely on it? Ultimately, while psychoanalysis maintains a unique relation to a variety of unexpected fields of study – including art, culture and neuroscience – we seek to add to this expanding list of inquiry by including sport in this critical domain. By utilising sport as a platform to elucidate psychoanalytic concepts, it is recognised that sport can also prompt questions for psychoanalysis. Through pathways of queer theory, Black feminist theory, psychoanalytic theory, and clinical vignette, this paper invites the reader to recognize the ways in which racial capitalism, patriarchy, White supremacy, and other systems of dominance and carceral logics replicate themselves through our play and our clinical life. Considering play and intrapsychic development through the vignette of Alex, the paper offers sociogenic considerations of how social systems are entangled in our object relations, play, and family dynamics. The paper highlights an ethical stance that queers our use of rules, centers Black feminisms of "living otherwise," and invites us to consider what Halberstam calls the "queer art of failure" when thinking about and living out sports and clinical life. The paper offers an inquiry by way of vignette into how we may consider and grapple with oppressive systems that live out interpersonally through unconscious processes, exposing the bonds we have come to believe are necessary to life but that ultimately restrict us from living play, and invites the reader to play with meaning-making between psychoanalysis and social theory. Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) is a brief psychodynamic therapy for depression, developed from the fundamental competences of evidence-based psychoanalytic/dynamic therapeutic methods. The 20-Day DIT training programme at the Anna Freud Centre in London is offered for clinicians who do not meet these psychoanalytic/dynamic competences. 28 therapists, each with three patients, underwent the 20-Day DIT training in 2019. The current study evaluated the 20-Day DIT training by investigating factors associated with the successful patient outcomes of this cohort. Reliable recovery and reliable improvement of patients was 69% and 90%, respectively. Quantitative analyses found that patients who have positive outcomes were likely to have lower baseline Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scores and lower patient complexity. A thematic analysis of the therapists' perspectives suggested that the most important elements of DIT perceived to be associated with successful patient outcomes cluster around four superordinate themes: aspects of the DIT model/training, characteristics of the patient, aspects of the patient-therapist relationship, and characteristics of the therapist. The results suggest that the DIT protocol can be acquired by novice therapists in psychoanalytic/dynamic methods and offer insight into the factors that may be associated with successful outcomes. Psychodynamic therapy is commonly used to treat patients with eating disorders. Patients with a diagnosed eating disorder have varying and complex treatment needs. Psychodynamic therapists transitioning their practices to telehealth during COVID-19 experienced the novelty of developing and sustaining a therapeutic connection with their patients without inhabiting a shared physical space. The aim of this qualitative phenomenological study was to gain insight into how psychodynamic therapists treating patients with eating disorders via telehealth during COVID-19 perceived their patients' experiences and personally experienced the therapeutic relationship and therapeutic processes. Twelve respondents met inclusion criteria, consented to participate, provided demographic data, and participated in a 30–45 minute semi-structured interview. Results from the data analysis included four emergent themes: (1) depth of content; (2) manifestations of patient distress; (3) therapist-patient relationship; and (4) implementation of techniques. Participants spoke about the challenges and resilience experienced by themselves and their patients. They highlighted having to rapidly transition their therapy practice to serve patients with exacerbated symptoms. They shared the complexities of navigating a global pandemic and considered the delivery of relational and dynamic therapy via telehealth. Countless socially responsible trade initiatives have emerged in recent years offering an uncertain mixture of token and substantive changes. After decades of battles over free trade, this marks a significant shift, challenging established debates over free versus regulated markets by promoting labour, gender, human, and environmental rights through trade agreements. This reorientation contains complex contradictions, with trade justice groups conceding to the popularity of trade while simultaneously insisting on a new vision of what trade is 'about.' Drawing on the idea of trade fetishism, this article argues that the desire for trade involves not only its material motivations, but its seductive content as a fetishised object of global capital, offering the fantasy of 'trade' as a symbolic source of pleasure. Through the case of the new NAFTA 2.0, it points to the relevance of trade politics that aspires not to overcome trade fetishism, but, as Lucas Pohl (2022) suggests, to 'get with' it. Through a trade justice ratchet mechanism, advocates have pushed for unanticipated changes, while also ceding to the limitations of the current order. Disenfranchised grief can be defined as a loss that is not openly acknowledged or a mourning process not recognized socially after a loss. One can also self-disenfranchise as suppressing and not allowing oneself to grieve. The current study aims to examine perceived disenfranchisement, self-disenfranchisement and disenfranchisement of others. For this purpose, three hypothetical unacknowledged loss scenarios, which are pet loss, a romantic relationship break-up and having a psychological disorder, were used to compare self and other disenfranchisement as well as to reveal the relationships to attachment and social support. The findings indicate that the three loss scenarios differ in terms of the acknowledgement of loss, grief and social and professional support for self and others. Subsequently, attachment and social support are significantly related to the evaluations of the disenfranchised grief process. Finally, the implications of the findings are discussed. The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between spiritual well-being, prenatal stress and attachment level of Turkish women conceiving spontaneously or with assisted reproductive techniques (ART). The comparative descriptive study type was conducted between November 2021 and June 2022 with 202 pregnant women, including 87 women conceiving with ART and 115 women conceiving spontaneously, who applied for routine prenatal care checkup in a state hospital in the west of Turkey. Both groups have a high level of spiritual well-being. Pregnant women in the ART group experience higher prenatal distress (9.6% for spontaneous, 12.6% for ART, p = 0.487) and low level of attachment (69.72 ± 7.98 for spontaneous, 66.24 ± 8.88 for ART, p = 0.006) compared to the other group. Additionally, as insufficient partner involvement in the prenatal process increases in pregnant women in both groups, prenatal attachment decreases. It is extremely important that midwives and nurses evaluate the spiritual well-being of pregnant women and provide holistic care in line with their spiritual needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sandplay therapy (SPT) is a promising approach to the treatment of negative psychosis symptoms, due to the psychodynamic lens it brings to both the underlying trauma and the attachment insecurity commonly associated with psychotic episodes. Additionally, SPT and other psychodynamic interventions offer a strengths-based alternative to a cognitive approach to the treatment of psychosis symptoms. Given the evidence that increasing social cognition, attachment security, and engagement with the imagination may all be associated with decreasing negative symptoms of psychosis, it is surprising that SPT, an expressive play therapy with Jungian origins, has not been tested for treatment of psychosis, even for negative symptoms, in any randomised clinical trials. Psychodynamic and cognitive perspectives on psychosis treatment are reviewed, exploring their different assumptions, and implications for direct social work practice as illustrated by a case example, are discussed. Netflix's globally oriented French products are commercially bound to negotiate between producing locally legible and internationally acceptable gender types. This article spotlights variations in representing the French romantic hero – traditionally a gallant séducteur – to a global audience hypersensitive to notions of toxic masculinity in two post-#MeToo Netflix Original French romantic comedy narratives: the series Plan cœur/The Hook-Up Plan (2018–2021) and the film Je ne suis pas un homme facile/I Am Not an Easy Man (Eléonore Pourriat, 2018). Noting that Netflix is now the key export channel for French romcoms, the article draws primarily on textual analysis, while also leveraging psychoanalytic and affective theories, to argue that the platform's impetus to make French masculinity in particular more widely palatable, and (so) appeal to emergent popular feminism, has the potential to reconfigure parameters of legitimate gender norms, French and beyond. In this paper, I discuss how ‘sense’ is made in art therapy regarding three uses of the term: that of ‘meaning’, ‘somatic experience’ and the capacity for ‘sensing’. I suggest that the patient in an art therapy session produces actions and artefacts which come into contact with the mind of the therapist/group. This allows for a dream to be generated between the creator and the observer, that the artwork can tell us something about internal mental states within the creator. I propose a theory of observation by application of an Aesthetic Grid – an adaptation of Bion’s Grid of genetic epistemology. This is an attempt to bring together ‘three waves of art therapy theory and practice’, and incorporates the function of the art object, as well as the phases of art making and looking/talking. The Aesthetic Grid is not intended for use in sessions but rather to be utilized after the event, in order to reflect upon the status of the ‘art-psychotherapy object’ - the totality of the triangular relationship, creator-artwork-viewer, and whether this constitutes development and growth or its inverse. Elucidating the influence of microsystem and exosystem factors on development is an important goal of developmental psychopathology. This study examined the effects of maltreatment and neighborhood risk on child-caregiver attachment. Maltreatment records, neighborhood risk indices, and Strange Situation data were collected from a diverse sample of 170 four-year-old children and their caregivers. Relative contributions of maltreatment, neighborhood risk, and their interaction on attachment insecurity and disorganization were explored via latent moderation. Maltreated children demonstrated higher rates of insecure attachment, but not attachment disorganization, independent of neighborhood risk. Controlling for maltreatment, preliminary results suggested no effects of neighborhood risk on attachment. Findings support prior research that has identified maltreatment as a salient risk to the formation of secure attachment relationships. However, results add heterogeneity to the limited research investigating effects of neighborhood on attachment. The author addresses the theme of frame and setting in psychoanalysis, suggesting that they are “functions” of the psychoanalytic process. Frame is defined as the external components of the context that enable the development of a process, and setting as the primarily psychoanalytic elements within the analyst’s mind, necessary for establishing an analysing situation where a process should take place. The author emphasizes that the characteristics of both also define the outline of the process, while discussing attributes that would aid in its development. The author proposes the creation of an imaginary model regarding possible invariants in psychoanalytic theories and theories of technique with the intention of deepening the understanding of the relationship between frame, setting and process. This article examines central ideas from Jacques Lacan's later psychoanalytic theory on psychosis. In the 1950s, Lacan formulated a structural model of psychosis, asserting that the central element of symbolically organized mental life, the Name-of-the-Father, is missing, leading to a latent vulnerability for psychotic episodes. In the 1970s, Lacan made significant changes to this model by introducing two new concepts: Father-of-the-Name and père-version. These concepts are plays on the original Name-of-the-Father concept and refer to two other aspects of the father function: the creative act of naming and embracing modes of life, respectively. Furthermore, in the 1970s, Lacan suggested that creating coherence in mental life does not necessarily require an exemplar of a paternal identification figure. Drawing from the case of the modernist writer James Joyce, he argued that singular inventions can just as effectively establish stability. This study examined the significance of self-worth as a crucial factor in human mental health and psychosocial development. The study explores self-worth interventions, mental disorders, and available resources. A comprehensive analysis of the conceptual and theoretical aspects of self-worth is undertaken. To begin with, the study offers conceptual justifications drawn from the self-worth literature, elucidating theoretical perspectives on the formation of self-worth in individuals. It elaborates on related concepts and their interconnections with selfworth. Furthermore, the examination extends to the influence of culture on self-worth development and emotions. Theoretical discussions on self-worth are approached through Psychoanalytic theory, Psychosocial development theory, Transactional analysis theory, and Attachment theory. The research scrutinizes the association between various mental disorders and self-worth, investigating how a lack of self-worth may exacerbate or precipitate certain psychopathologies. Previous interventions aimed at enhancing self-worth are outlined, accompanied by an exploration of methods for measuring self-worth. The study emphasizes the pivotal role of self-worth in individuals' mental health, considering the implications of concepts like unconditional selfworth and contingencies of self-worth. This paper presents a new approach to theorizing and empirically investigating a phenomenon variously described by sociologists as internalized oppression or symbolic violence. Located at the intersection of internal worlds and external reality, the intrapsychic and the interpersonal and social, this object of inquiry—here termed self-negation—is crucial to many forms of societal domination. The paper explores its inner workings, analytically disaggregating it into an array of psychosocial processes drawn from the psychoanalytic theory of the defenses. Much of the work's originality consists in showing how these processes operate across multiple systems of domination and drive many and varied outward manifestations of the phenomenon. Antisemitism has been a persistent and growing prejudice for millenniums against the Jewish people. This paper offers a general theory of group hatred appliable to antisemitism and other religious or racial prejudices. Theories of prejudice tend either to postulate an internal psychic template of hatred that is projected or postulate a social origin of hatred that is internalized. Rather there is a dialectic where there is a reciprocal movement between internal and external. The tendency to hate and project is a part of the human psyche, here called internal racism. Anxieties which cannot be contained internally can be stabilized by large‐group identity. When internal racism cannot be contained or the external social groups are weak, the result is pathological large‐group formations. A distinction can be made between personal antisemitism in which the hatred is projected onto a known person and impersonal antisemitism in which hatred is projected into groups. A fairy tale by the brother's Grimm, "The Jew among Thorns" is used to illustrate a number of personal antisemitic attitudes. The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is one of the world's most persistent and intractable conflicts. Despite extensive and in‐depth analyses to help understand and transform it, the parties have failed to reach sustainable peace. In this article, I extend group and family psychoanalytic theories to analyze the unconscious dynamics that potentially underlie this relationship, interpreting it in light of the biblical narrative of Abraham, his wives—Sarah and Hagar, and sons—Isaac and Ishmael. Using the above‐mentioned framework, I interpret the Israeli–Palestinian conflict over land as an enactment of the archaic fraternal complex, whereby each sibling unconsciously entertains the fantasy of returning to the maternal womb and aspires to be the exclusive owner of maternal space and the mother's phallus. Consideration of the archaic fraternal complex dynamics offers psychoanalytically oriented mediators an additional tool to understand conflicts, especially land‐related disputes. To work through intractable conflict, these mediators can help the belligerent parties perform the psychic work of trauma and primal mourning to stop enacting the fantasy of returning to the maternal womb and to accept symbolic castration. This work could contribute to the warring parties' ability to renounce their rigid ideological positions and seal new fraternal pacts under the aegis of the law of reason. Supported by a large body of work demonstrating the impact of infant attachment representations on subsequent development, numerous therapeutic programs have been developed to promote secure attachment, with increasing focus on parental mentalizing. Nonetheless, empirical evidence supporting their effectiveness has yet to be fully established. The current pilot study (N = 24) was designed to evaluate whether and to what extent parents' shifts in parental mentalizing following a brief attachment‐based group intervention, namely circle of security parenting (COSP; Cooper, Hoffman & Powell, 2009) can be captured using the parental embodied mentalizing instrument (PEM; Shai & Belsky, 2017). Compared to a waiting list–control group, this small‐scale study examined whether community‐based low‐risk mothers of infants aged 5–48 months show an increase in their observed PEM capacities following the intervention. Secondary self‐reported outcome variables parental stress, feeling of competence, and self‐compassion. Findings show that PEM ratings improved significantly over time in the COSP group, but not in the control group. Intervention group mother–infant dyads also presented significantly longer embodied interactions communication post intervention compared to the control group. No effects of the COSP on parental stress, competence, or self‐compassion were found. Despite the small sample size, these results tentatively suggest that COSP can improve embodied mentalizing abilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spontaneous, unwilled subjective imagery and symbols (including dreams) often emerge in psychotherapy that can appear baffling and confound interpretation. Early psychoanalytic theories seemed to diverge as often as they agreed on the meaning of such content. Nevertheless, after reviewing key findings in the empirical science of spontaneous thought as well as insights gleaned from neuroscience and especially embodied cognition, it is now possible to construct a more coherent theory of interpretation that is clinically useful. Given that thought is so thoroughly embodied, it is possible to demonstrate that universalities in human physiology yield universalities in thought. Such universalities can then be demonstrated to form a kind of biologically directed universal "code" for understanding spontaneous symbolic expressions that emerge in psychotherapy. This paper takes as its premise the idea that transferential phenomena emerge out of the endless interactions between the wider social context, including myriad social injustices, and the inter and intra psychic events psychoanalytic therapists are more familiar with thinking about. Freud's was a neuro-psycho-social model of development, with the interrelationship between internal life and social practices carefully mapped in 'Totem and Taboo' (1913) and 'Civilisation and Its Discontents' (S. Freud, 1930). However, what Freud left undone, and is still only nascent in its development, is the work of mapping how this interaction between internal and external, between psycho and social, manifests in the consulting room. Focusing on race, as one aspect of identity that powerfully impacts transferential phenomena, the paper presents accounts of clinical events, one disguised, one fictionalised, to explore the meaning of the author's own Whiteness in this context. The paper draws on fictionalised composite case histories to explore themes in psychotherapeutic work with gender questioning and transgender young people. Gender and transgender are examined from psychoanalytic, cultural and philosophical perspectives. It is argued that the meaning of gender and transgender as an identity is rooted in unconscious processes and patterns of relationship. An ethical argument is made for a therapeutic stance, which remains curious about and receptive to complexity in therapeutic work with gender questioning young people and their families. The article "Psychoanalysis Under Occupation: Practicing Resistance in Palestine" critically examines the use of psychology and psychotherapy by the Israeli settler colonial state as tools of oppression against Palestinians. The authors argue that these practices perpetuate Orientalist ideologies and pathologize Palestinian experiences. They also critique the human rights discourse and highlight the challenges faced by Palestinian clinicians. While the authors' anti-Zionist stance is commendable, the concept of a unified and autonomous Palestinian self is questioned, emphasizing the complexity of subjectivity and the limitations of psychoanalysis in achieving liberation and justice. The text discusses the relationship between psychoanalysis, Marxism, and the Palestinian struggle for liberation, and calls for a serious engagement with theory for Palestine. In this article I map a set of points that could begin to tell the story of inertia's trajectory from physics and physiology to figurations of psychic life in Freudian psychoanalytic theory. Both preceding and contemporaneous with Freud's use of the concept of inertia to describe an element of psychic life, work was taking place in other intellectual and geographical contexts to translate this law of physics and physiology to a property of mental life. As a particular illustration of this, I examine a lecture given by British scientist Michael Faraday in 1818, wherein he makes the leap from the inertia of matter to 'mental inertia' and is arguably the first recorded thinker to do so in the English language. I then explore the use of the phrase 'psychic inertia' in 1900 by Scottish physiologist D.F. Harris and argue that Harris's work is not only emerging at the same time as Freud's discoveries, but that he prefigures Freud's ideas about the relationship between inertia and the death drive in interesting ways. Lacking a comprehensive understanding of sadomasochism makes difficulties in judicial dispositions, clinical interventions, and mental health services. This study explores the correlation between sadomasochists' growth experience and their sadomasochistic behaviors and fantasies. We interviewed 51 sadomasochists from a Chinese subcultural website, coded and analyzed the interview records, conducted correlation and cluster analyses on the reference points of the nodes of impressive experience and sadomasochistic behaviors and fantasies, and constructed the model of Experience—Behaviors and Fantasies. We found that sadomasochists' typical impressive experiences are family parenting and sexual experience; sadomasochistic behaviors and fantasies can be classified into five categories: spirit, punishment, sex, canine, and excretion; and sadomasochistic behaviors and fantasies are partially correlated with sadomasochists' impressive experiences, indicating psychoanalytic theory is the leading theory for the driving processes of sadomasochism, while behaviorist and Gestalt theories also contribute. An oft‐repeated and largely unexamined assumption in Jungian psychoanalysis is the notion of "analyzability", that is, of an individual's ability or present capacity to think symbolically. It is often taught that if someone is unable to think symbolically, a depth analysis is not possible. Such an individual may be more aptly suited for supportive psychotherapy, the argument goes, an experience that may very well lead to the development of the ego's capacity for symbolic thought but is not, in and of itself, a Jungian analysis. While this sort of categorical thinking has, at times, crossed over into ontological claims about individuals and groups, the notion of analyzability encountered in psychoanalytic theory and praxis is often cloaked in facially neutral language. The impact, however, has been anything but neutral in effect. In this paper, I propose a softening of our theoretical edges through a genealogy of the category of analyzability within the broader history of psychoanalysis. Through this excavation, I explore the contingent nature of the category of analyzability, how it has constricted knowledge, perpetuated inequality, and, more broadly, obscured ways of knowing. The assumption that primal phantasmatic activity stems from bodily functions is widely accepted in developmental and psychoanalytic thinking. This article attempts to give more specific meaning to this abstract assumption. It examines the influence of sensory, perceptual, and motor capacities on the consolidation of typically differentiated erotogenic experiences relevant to pre-Oedipal and Oedipal organisations. It then proceeds to examine the impact of innate deficiencies in these capacities on the development of phantasmatic organisation in children on the autistic spectrum who often manifest atypical erotogenic organisation. Additionally, it pays attention to non-symbolic therapeutic communication and the unconscious transference-countertransference relationship stemming from such a problematic matrix. The paper is clinically derived from a description of the early-Oedipal organisation of a child with low cognitive and functional capacities and proceeds to the manifestations of the Oedipal constellation of a high-functioning autistic child. Parent–Child Attachment (PCA) and Hostile Attribution Bias (HAB) are closely related to aggression, but findings regarding their relationships are inconsistent. There is a lack of understanding of the underlying mechanism between PCA and aggression. This review employed meta-analysis approaches to investigate the associations between PCA and aggression, as well as between HAB and aggression, and the mechanism for the PCA–aggression association. An article search was conducted in CNKI, PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. Totally, 118 studies involving general populations and those at high risk for aggression were included. Results revealed negative associations between Parent–Child Attachment Security (PCAS) and aggression (ρ = −.267, p <.001) and positive associations between Parent–Child Attachment Insecurity (PCAI) and aggression (ρ =.240, p <.05). HAB and aggression were found to be positively associated (ρ =.303, p <.001). As for the PCAS–aggression association, a larger effect size was found in females than in males. The HAB–reactive aggression association was stronger than the HAB–proactive aggression association. In Eastern culture, the association between HAB and aggression was stronger than in Western culture. HAB mediated the association between PCAS and aggression. Our findings contribute to the understanding of the occurrence and development of aggression by establishing an association between attachment theory and the social information processing model. The practical implications include interventions targeting cultivating PCAS and alleviating HAB, which might serve as effective ways to reduce aggression, yet aggression type, gender, and cultural background should be taken into consideration. Anti-capitalist subjectivities are produced through politically generative refusals of the divisive, profit-oriented, and manageable subject positions made available by capitalism's socio-symbolic order. Pushing back against liberal political theories which presume subjectivity to be a priori or coherent, this article employs psychoanalytic theory to grapple with the flowing, changing, patterned, and disjointed nature of anti-capitalist subject formations. Although mainstream psychoanalysis has, historically, aligned with the dictates of capital, I argue that psychoanalytic theory nonetheless offers a useful resource for understanding how anti-capitalist refusal can foster emancipatory desires and situated political commitments within and among subjects. In fleshing out these arguments, I engage with the role that fantasy plays in forming anti-capitalist subjectivities. I also consider what solidarity building and political action mean with respect to anti-capitalist subjectivity. This paper presents and discusses two sets of theories concerning trauma. The first involves a contemporary social theory of "cultural trauma" and the second refers to psychoanalytic theories on psychic trauma. We argue that these two groups of theories have some relevant elements in common, despite social theorists' critique of psychoanalytic understanding on the matter. In our view, the most important meeting points between these groups of theories concern (a) the possibility to think that trauma is not welded to events but has a formation process, one of attribution of meaning, (b) that this process has a temporality of its own, and (c) that the environment (the objects, actors, and agents that compose it) has a fundamental and determinant role in trauma formation. While this article begins by noting the positive role that constructivism has played in the development of psychoanalytic theory over the past 50 years, it also points to the limitations of the approach and argues they must be corrected. For at the same time as constructivism's criticisms of biologism and essentialism have provided powerful weapons for combating psychoanalytic conservatism, an exclusively constructivist approach has also made it difficult, if not impossible, to address an essential issue for psychoanalysts: namely, the normative basis of the enterprise and the goal(s) of development and treatment. The author claims that Winnicott's theory provides a way out of this difficulty. For although Winnicott is often construed as a strict constructivist owing to his introduction of the notion of the environment, it is argued that his concept of "inherited potential" retains biological foundation for psychoanalysis while avoiding the dangers of essentialism. Cautioning that if analysts are to continue working virtually, then psychoanalytic theory and technique must be reconsidered, this paper describes the analyst's profound experience of transitioning from working in-person to working virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic with Lila, a mixed race, trans adolescent. Although the analyst experienced Lila as difficult-to-reach when working in person, the shift to working virtually enlivened the treatment and allowed Lila to explore her early trauma, as well as aspects of her mixed-race identity, for the first time. Drawing on the analyst's dream of a techno-baby alongside the work of Ferenczi, as well as more recent writings on technology and embodiment, the analyst argues that psychoanalytic conceptions of subjectivity must be expanded to include the more-than-human environment. Psychoanalytic theory and practice consider both transference and countertransference as cornerstones for understanding those complicated psychological phenomena which psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy bring to light. The relationship between a patient and a psychoanalyst has been the crucial point on which our attention and interest is focused. In the intersubjective space of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, all interactions between the patient and the analyst are considered to mutually influence each participant of the analytic dyad. Together with patients, clinicians get involved in ambiguous, uncanny and unavoidable enactments. The understanding of the latter requires from a psychoanalyst not only to contain the patient's anxiety and reflect on the patient's inner feelings but also to stay open to the gamut of feelings, anxieties and conflicts that arise from the professional's experience. I suggest that accomplishing the complicated task of understanding both the patient's and his own feelings and experience leads the analyst to the necessity of restoring links with himself. By means of clinical material, I make an attempt to show how the process of understanding an uncanny enactment becomes for the therapist a process of restoring the links in countertransference which, in turn, enables the therapist to interpret the patient's specific difficulties. Since the latter half of the 20th century many political efforts and initiatives have been launched to ensure that teacher education provides teachers with a positive (orderly) knowledge base. This includes things like professional teacher standards and notions like 'best practices' and 'evidence‐based practice'. Building on the work of Esposito and with inspiration from psychoanalytic theory, we argue that today's educational policy can be seen as an attempt to immunise (teacher) education from risks associated with negativity ‐ disorderly, disruptive and 'destructive' matters that can problematise and question the normal order of things within political debates and policy‐based reforms. Drawing on examples from England and Denmark – contexts in which the authors work – we demonstrate how a dichotomy between desirable sound/healthy knowledge and undesirable unsound/unhealthy knowledge exist within teacher education. We examine how this produces epistemic injustice in that negative modes of thought and practice are rendered invisible, unthinkable and illegitimate. Being able to traverse such injustice, teachers must be encouraged to approach any and all sources of influence on their professional knowledge base with a sort of agonistic pragmatism, which may allow them to be faithful to the ethico‐political situation they are engaged in. What we suggest in this regard is that teacher education must provide time and space for (student) teachers to engage with plurality, contingency and absence because such negative 'stumbling blocks' (always) play a vital part in education, preventing control, stability and harmony. According to psychoanalytic self-psychological theory, narcissistic injuries may induce radical intentions, and subclinical paranoid states via self-psychological mechanisms. The testing took place in a narcissistic-injuring situation in Germany, where a reform of psychotherapy-training was implemented with only brief period of transition for those aiming to become psychotherapists after graduating. Within a randomized controlled-experimental design, 100 psychology-students were to read information about short transition-periods for them (affectedness-by-the-reform-condition) vs. for education-students (no-affectedness-by-the-reform-condition). After reading a radicalization-prompt, discussing in a 30-minute-group-discussion, participants in both conditions completed dependent measures of separatist identification, negative affects, overconfidence, radical intentions and subclinical paranoid states. Compared to the control condition (n = 49), psychologists in the experimental-condition (n = 51) stronger experienced narcissistic injury (d between 0.79 and 1.01; manipulation-check). They experienced a stronger alloyance with an archaic-omnipotent object (d = 0.52), exhibited more negative affects (d = 0.46), claimed overconfidence (d = 0.50), more radical intentions (d = 0.52), and subclinical paranoid states (d = 0.43). Our study supports Kohut's idea that antisocial as well as paranoid states are responses to narcissistic injuries mediated by the alloyance with an archaic-omnipotent object, negative affects and overconfidence. This study aims to investigate the conceptual grounds on which subjective rectification and the interweaving of the therapeutic and epistemic demand rely, specifically the assumption that the subject is involved in their own suffering. This perspective presupposes a subject with a certain degree of freedom and choice. Drawing on Freud's choice of neurosis, Lacan's unsoundable decision of being and forced choice and Zupančič's ideas on psychological freedom, we explore the kind of choice involved in psychoanalytic theory and how it can be understood in light of the psychic determination that is central to both Freud's and Lacan's work. We argue that the subject's determination is self-chosen, albeit a forced choice. This allows the subject to take responsibility for what is experienced as a causal necessity. This psychobiography of Frida Kahlo explores the psychology of the famous Mexican artist. Drawing upon Kahlo's paintings and diary entries, a rich psychological analysis of the feminist icon is juxtaposed with the zeitgeist of 20th century Mexico. Framed through the theoretical model of feminist psychology, Kahlo's role in promoting gender equality and dismantling patriarchal society is discussed. Physical pain resulting from illness and impalement by a metal pole in a trolley accident was matched, if not exceeded, by the psychological pain the artist felt due to resulting issues with fertility and the long-sought but never-realized role of motherhood, infidelity within her marriage, and the eventual loss of her ability to paint. Nevertheless, Kahlo's perseverance and strength led to worldwide recognition of her bold and vibrant paintings, vulnerably depicting her rich inner world. The present study utilises perspectives from art therapy and attachment theory to elucidate the factors contributing to Frida Kahlo's resilience in the face of lifelong trauma and chronic pain. Ultimately, Kahlo's life and work offer valuable insight into the psychological experiences of women in patriarchal societies, emphasising the importance of feminist perspectives in psychological research and highlighting the healing and resilience-promoting role of art. This article attempts to reestablish the importance of human aggression as a figural cornerstone in both the origin and practice of Gestalt therapy. Attention is paid to the early contributions of Frederick Perls in reformulating psychoanalytic theory with respect to what he considered to be the primacy of aggression over sexuality in terms of human growth and development. Distinctions are made between what would be considered "healthy" versus "unhealthy" applications of aggression within the maturation cycle of the organism, its social functioning, and the effective practice of Gestalt therapy. Problems related to the definition and application of aggressive expression are discussed through Gestalt-related literature and differences noted in more contemporary research. Practitioners of the Gestalt approach are encouraged to review the relevant literature as a way of revisiting and refreshening their understanding of the clinical importance of aggression in the practice of Gestalt therapy. A large literature has formed around the question of how Freud's Jewishness and/or Judaism influenced his psychological discoveries and development of psychoanalytic theory and methods. The article organizes the literature into several core theses but brings new clarity and insight by applying two essential criteria to demonstrate an impact of Judaism on Freud's thinking: direct content and historical timing. First, there should be evidence that Freud incorporated actual content from Jewish sources, and second, this incorporation must have occurred during the most crucial period of Freud's early discovery, conceptualization, and development of psychoanalysis, roughly 1893–1910. Thus, for example, Bakan's well‐known theory that Freud studied Kabbala is completely negated by the absence of any evidence in the required time period. Part I reviews the literature on the influence of Freud's ethnic/cultural Jewish identity. Part II introduces the Judaic sacred literature, explores Freud's education in Judaism and Hebrew, and presents evidence that Freud had the motive, means, and resources to discover and draw from the "Dream Segment" of the Talmud—along with the traditional Judaic methods and techniques of textual exegesis. Freud then applied these same Judaic word‐centered interpretive methods—used for revealing an invisible God—to revealing an invisible Unconscious in four successive books in 1900, 1901, and 1905. The author reflects on challenges to the dyad, the vulnerability of the analyst, and how the individual and analytic pair may confront their existential reality separately or together. Discriminatory attitudes towards women are still widespread and have also pervaded the digital world. They are often connected with the propensity to view and treat women as sexual objects, which sometimes leads to negative and harmful behaviours, such as the sharing of intimate images without the partner's consent. The present study aims at investigating the non‐consensual sharing of intimate images in relation to benevolent and hostile sexism, direct and mediated by female sexual objectification. The sample was recruited through the snowball sampling technique and was made up of 2,305 young Italian adults aged between 18 and 35. Analysis was carried out using structural equation modelling and the multigroup mediation model, allowing us to detect any gender differences. For both, males and females, results show that benevolent sexism has neither a direct nor indirect correlation with non‐consensual sharing of sexts. Instead, hostile sexism has an indirect relation with non‐consensual sharing mediated by the sexual objectification of the woman's body. Results do not show differences between male and female groups and highlight the need to focus on the socio‐cultural context that enables the non‐consensual sharing of intimate images, which is a variety of cyberviolence against women.
