Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) have a significant impact on people's lives as well as their workplaces, organizations, families, society, and national economy. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to investigate the impacts of different risk factors in developing MSD problems. Structural equation modelling has been used to examine the effects of different risk factors on developing MSD problems. Five hypotheses were developed for workplace, personal, biomechanical, psychosocial, and organisational risk factors to examine the positive relation with MSD problems generation. Results showed that biomechanical risk factors, including repetitive motion, vibration, force, posture, and deviation from neutral body alignment, have significant impacts on the development of MSD problems. Similar results were found for workplace, personal, psychosocial, and organisational risk factors. Therefore, either the single risk factor or collectively contributes significantly to MSD problems generation. Decision-makers can use this study to analyse the impacts of different factors on the generation of MSD problems within their industries or organizations. To the best of the author's knowledge, this study is the first and foremost approach to determine the impacts of the critical risk factors on developing MSD problems through an organised and scientific approach. Summary: Importance: The effectiveness of anti‐obesity medications for children and adolescents is unclear. Objective: To update the evidence on the benefits and harms of anti‐obesity medication. Data Sources: Cochrane CENTRAL, MEDLINE, ClinicalTrials.gov and WHO ICTRP (1/1/16–17/3/23). Study Selection: Randomized controlled trials ≥6 months in people <19 years living with obesity. Data Extraction and Synthesis: Screening, data extraction and quality assessment conducted in duplicate, independently. Main Outcomes and Measures: Body mass index (BMI): 95th percentile BMI, adverse events and quality of life. Results: Thirty‐five trials (N = 4331), follow‐up: 6–24 months; age: 8.8–16.3 years; BMI: 26.2–41.7 kg/m2. Moderate certainty evidence demonstrated a −1.71 (95% confidence interval [CI]: −2.27 to −1.14)‐unit BMI reduction, ranging from −0.8 to −5.9 units between individual drugs with semaglutide producing the largest reduction of −5.88 kg/m2 (95% CI: −6.99 to −4.77, N = 201). Drug type explained ~44% of heterogeneity. Low certainty evidence demonstrated reduction in 95th percentile BMI: −11.88 percentage points (95% CI: −18.43 to −5.30, N = 668). Serious adverse events and study discontinuation due to adverse events did not differ between medications and comparators, but medication dose adjustments were higher compared to comparator (10.6% vs 1.7%; RR = 3.74 [95% CI: 1.51 to 9.26], I2 = 15%), regardless of approval status. There was a trend towards improved quality of life. Evidence gaps exist for children, psychosocial outcomes, comorbidities and weight loss maintenance. Conclusions and Relevance: Anti‐obesity medications in addition to behaviour change improve BMI but may require dose adjustment, with 1 in 100 adolescents experiencing a serious adverse event. Objective: During the COVID-19 pandemic, anxiety in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) may have increased; however, little is known about the various factors which influenced this. We aimed to (a) identify the psychosocial modifiable associates of anxiety in PwMS in Ireland and the United Kingdom and (b) explore experiences of anxiety during the pandemic. Method: A cross-sectional survey was developed using public and patient involvement in 2021. This included measures of anxiety (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale [HADS-A]), social support (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support [MSPSS]), multiple sclerosis control self-efficacy (Multiple Sclerosis Self-Efficacy scale [MSSE]), exercise habits (Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire [GLTEQ]), MS acceptance (Acceptance of Chronic Health Conditions scale [ACHC]), and intolerance of uncertainty (Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12 [IUS-12]), with open-ended questions asking about experiences of anxiety during COVID-19. A hierarchical regression analysis investigated the extent to which anxiety could be predicted by psychosocial modifiable factors after controlling for sociodemographic factors and multiple sclerosis (MS) type, while reflective thematic analysis was used to analyze open-ended responses. Results: 287 PwMS completed the survey, with 58% reporting that their anxiety had increased during the pandemic. In order of magnitude, self-efficacy (β = −.41), intolerance of uncertainty (β =.35), social support (β = −.21), and exercise habits (β =.19) significantly predicted variance in HADS-A scores (p <.01). Themes describing sources of anxiety included personal health concerns, social concerns, and responsibilities/additional external burdens. In contrast, some PwMS reported that anxiety had decreased during COVID-19. Conclusions: While the generality of findings may be limited due to a predominately female sample of PwMS living in the United Kingdom and Ireland, results have the potential to inform the development of targeted interventions in rehabilitation psychology to reduce anxiety in this population. Impact and Implications: This study provides a valuable insight into understanding the experience of anxiety in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). A strength lies in its mixed-methods approach, in that both a quantitative analysis of the predictors of anxiety along with a qualitative analysis of the experience of anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic are described. While a number of participants indicated improvements in their levels of anxiety during the pandemic, the majority reported experiencing increases in anxiety during this time. Our qualitative analysis suggests that this was primarily attributed to concerns around health, social factors, and additional burdens placed on PwMS during the pandemic. Results point to a number of psychological, social, and lifestyle factors that may reduce the experience of anxiety in this population and which have the potential to meaningfully targeted in rehabilitation interventions. Notably, interventions designed to enhance self-efficacy and increase tolerance of uncertainty are promising directions for future research. Given that less attention has been paid to ways that anxiety can be reduced in the context of multiple sclerosis, these findings are valuable in informing the provision of supports of this group specifically, while findings also have implications for those living with other chronic illnesses and disabilities more generally. Marchetti and Sawrikar's (2024) systematic review of parent illness representations of their child's anorexia nervosa provides a valuable synthesis of 32 qualitative studies. The key themes that emerge paint a concerning picture of parents' perceptions of AN as: difficult to identify and understand; of chronic duration; uncontrollable; severe; and associated with serious consequences. A sense of hopelessness and low‐parental self‐efficacy was identified. This Commentary explores the key findings of this review in four areas: AN treatment and recovery (control/cure); emotional representations of the illness; parent understanding of the illness (coherence) and its causes; and consequences of the AN. These illness perceptions are discussed along with relevant quantitative investigations of parent experiences, with a view to suggesting how the toll on parents might be reduced and how reducing burdens on parents might also lead to improved timely treatment outcomes. Background: Despite advancements in treatment, patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) experience a range of symptoms that affect their quality of life. There is a need to integrate neuropalliative care into standard care. The aim of the study is to understand the psychosocial functioning in persons with PD and explore their caregivers' burden. Methods: The study utilizes a mixed-methods design where 50 patient--caregiver dyads attending the outpatient services of the movement disorder clinic at a tertiary care hospital were measured on psychosocial functioning and caregiver burden and palliative care outcomes for a period of 6 months. Focus group discussions were conducted with 18 patient--caregiver dyads to understand the needs of palliative care. Results: It was found that caregiver burden was positively correlated with palliative care outcomes scores of patients (r = 0.586) and caregivers (r = 0.675) and psychosocial functioning was positively correlated with palliative care outcomes of patients (r = 0.708). The psychosocial functioning score was higher among female patients (indicating worse functioning) than males, and female caregivers experienced significantly higher caregiver burden. The qualitative findings reveal that there is a substantial gap in awareness about palliative care, lack of information, presence of stigmatizing beliefs, and lack of adequate accessibility to palliative facilities. Conclusion: The study lays the foundation for future PD neuropalliative care research, guiding interventions, and exploration of regional variations in PD experiences in India. The field of psychodermatology, which explores the relationship between psychological factors and skin conditions, is an important area of study in medical education and clinical practice. However, healthcare professionals often lack confidence and training in managing psychocutaneous conditions. Studies have shown a high demand for continuing medical education (CME) programs focused on psychodermatology, and initiatives such as video mentoring and clinical skills lessons have shown promise in improving provider expertise and patient outcomes. Challenges in integrating psychodermatology into mainstream CME programs include resource scarcity and patient stigma, which can be addressed through innovative educational strategies and interdisciplinary collaboration. People with mental illness tend to present low levels of physical activity and high levels of sedentary behavior. The study aims to compare these levels in mental illness patients, exploring the role of socioeconomic development and treatment setting. This cross-sectional study used accelerometers and the Simple Physical Activity Questionnaire (SIMPAQ) to assess physical activity and sedentary behavior in mental illness individuals living in 23 countries. Two-way ANOVAs were used to evaluate the interaction between socioeconomic development and the treatment settings on physical activity and sedentary behavior. A total of 884 (men = 55.3%) participants, mean age of 39.3 (SD = 12.8), were evaluated. A significant interaction between socioeconomic development and treatment settings was found in sedentary behavior (F = 5.525; p = 0.019; η2p = 0.009; small effect size). Main effects were observed on socioeconomic development (F = 43.004; p < 0.001; η2p = 0.066; medium effect size) and treatment setting (F = 23.001; p < 0.001; η2p = 0.036; small effect size) for sedentary behavior and physical activity: socioeconomic development (F = 20.888; p < 0.001; η2p = 0.033; small effect size) and treatment setting (F = 30.358; p < 0.001; η2p = 0.047; small effect size), showing that HIC patients were more active, while MIC patients were more sedentary. Moreover, despite of inpatients had presented higher levels of physical activity than outpatients, they also spent more time sitting. Socioeconomic development plays an important role in sedentary behavior in patients with mental disorders, warning the need to develop new strategies to reduce these levels in this population. The purpose of this article is to analyze the existing literature on the role of identity in mental illness and self-diagnostic behavior among individuals on social media. In this paper, we consolidate existing frameworks for illness identity formation based on principles of social contagion and community formation principles to conceptualize abnormal behaviors related to social media use, including Munchausen's by Internet, mass social media-induced illness, and mass sociogenic illness. The importance of a diagnosis in personal identity formation and ingroup involvement is an emergent theme in this review. Social media communities represent a cultural antithesis of the medical establishment by rejecting healthcare expertise and creating spaces whose membership is only afforded through a psychiatric diagnosis for individuals to participate in shared experiences. Clinical implications of these findings include tools to identify and dismantle harmful self-pathologizing of normal behavioral variants in young adults who present with specific symptomatology. Background: Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, several clinical trials have evaluated postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) among close contacts of an index individual with a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Because index individuals do not directly inform the efficacy of prevention interventions, they are seldom enrolled in COVID-19 PEP studies. However, adjusting for prognostic covariates such as an index individual's COVID-19 illness and risk behaviors can increase precision in PEP efficacy estimates, so approaches to accurately collecting this information about the index individual are needed. This analysis aimed to assess whether surveying household contacts captures the same information as surveying the index individual directly. Methods: REGN 2069/CoVPN 3502, a randomized controlled trial of COVID-19 PEP, enrolled household contacts of SARS-CoV-2 index individuals. CoVPN 3502-01 retrospectively enrolled and surveyed the index individuals. We compared responses to seven similar questions about the index individuals' transmission cofactors that were asked in both studies. We estimated the percent concordance between index individuals and their household contacts on each question, with 50% concordance considered equivalent to random chance. Results: Concordance between index individuals and contacts was high on the most objective questions, approximately 97% (95% CI: 90–99%) for index individual age group and 96% (88–98%) for hospitalization. Concordance was moderate for symptoms, approximately 85% (75–91%). Concordance on questions related to the index individual's behavior was only slightly better or no better than random: approximately 62% (51–72%) for whether they received COVID-19 treatment, 68% (57–77%) for sharing a bedroom, 70% (59–79%) for sharing a common room, and 49% (39–60%) for mask wearing at home. However, while contacts were surveyed within 96 h of the index individual testing positive for SARS-CoV-2, the median time to enrollment in CoVPN 3502-01 was 240 days, which may have caused recall bias in our results. Conclusions: Our results suggest a need to survey index individuals directly in order to accurately capture their transmission cofactors, rather than relying on their household contacts to report on their behavior. This cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted to evaluate the coping strategies of parents of children with cystic fibrosis. The research sample is the parents (n: 112) who presented to Thoracic Medicine Department at Hacettepe University Pediatric Hospital between 3 April 2021 - 28 May 2021 and volunteered to participate in the study. Sociodemographic Data Form and Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Inventory (COPE Inventory) were used in the collection of data. The study examined coping strategies according to children's characteristics such as age, sex, education, and parents' independent variables such as employment status, income status, number of individuals and children in the family, communication with other families, social and financial support. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Research findings show that religious coping was the most frequently preferred coping strategy, and behavioral disengagement was the least commonly used coping strategy. Emotion-Focused Coping Strategies were also commonly used. While ample research has shown that sport injuries are associated with poor psychological status, scant attention has been given to changes in injured athletes' psychological status over the full course of recovery and return to sport. The aim of the present study was to prospectively investigate potential changes in injured athletes' psychological status across four phases of recovery and return to sport. A total of 38 severely injured adult competitive athletes (58% female; mean age 24.1 ± 7.18 years) participated in this prospective weekly investigation (n = 319 observations). Athletes' were asked to indicate their current phase of recovery or return to sport (acute care, rehabilitation, adapted training, or full return to sport) after which they responded to visual analog scales assessing post‐injury psychological status, including: perceived pain (frequency and intensity), emotions (positive and negative), anxiety (cognitive and physiological), motivation, self‐efficacy, and satisfaction. During the acute care phase, participants showed higher scores of perceived pain, and physiological anxiety compared to the other phases. During the adapted training phase, amotivation was higher than in the acute care phase, and self‐efficacy was lower than in other phases. At full return to sport, athletes showed less perceived pain, cognitive anxiety, and more satisfaction than during other phases. The present study provides a deeper prospective understanding of changes in athlete's psychological status over the course of injury recovery and return to sport and highlight the importance of monitoring psychological status. Weight discrimination has adverse effects on health that include increasing the risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes. Preliminary evidence suggests a positive association between weight discrimination and diagnosed diabetes; however, it is unknown whether psychosocial resources may buffer this association. In logistic regressions stratified by gender, we examined links between weight discrimination and diabetes among a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults (the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project; N = 2,794 adults age 50 and older in 2015-16). We also tested the extent to which trait-resilience and social support from a spouse/partner, family, and friends buffered any observed association. We adjusted for known predictors of diabetes (age, race/ethnicity, Body Mass Index) and conducted sensitivity analyses restricted to men and women with obesity. Net of covariates, in the overall sample, weight discrimination was associated with significantly greater odds of having ever had diabetes among women (OR = 2.00, 95% CI [1.15, 3.47]), but not men. Among women with obesity, weight discrimination was only significantly associated with greater odds of diabetes for those with low resilience (OR = 1.84, 95% CI [1.01, 3.35]). Among men overall, weight discrimination was associated with lower odds of diabetes for those with high family support (OR = 0.03, 95% CI [0.003, 0.25]) as well as those with high friend support (OR = 0.34, 95% CI [0.13, 0.91]); similar effects were observed in men with obesity. Mesothelioma is an incurable asbestos-related cancer with a high symptom burden. Its long lead time means cases in the military context tend to be amongst veterans. Research into the lived experience of mesothelioma is sparse. Research shows British veterans and their families are likely to have particular needs accessing health services and support. This study explored the psychological effects of mesothelioma in the UK military context from the carer's perspective. It comprised a secondary data analysis of interview data plus semi-structured interviews with family carers of UK veterans with a mesothelioma diagnosis. Themes developed included ' Going the extra mile'; 'Shifts in previously robust characteristics and roles'; and 'Needing to know'. Military culture impacted both patients and carers, with participants reporting a reluctance to show weakness. Carers experienced guilt and traumatic stress symptoms. Background: Uncertainty is the inability to define the meaning of illness-related events, which may result in anxiety, depression, poor coping, the self-perception of being a burden and low quality of life. Uncertainty among Thai patients with advanced-stage lung cancer (ASLC) has not been well documented. Aims: To assess uncertainty in patients with ASLC. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was adopted. Data were collected from 60 patients with ASLC at a university hospital. A demographic data form and the Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS) were used to collect data. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: The patients had moderate levels of uncertainty in illness (83.73±15.25). Ambiguity about the illness and unpredictability of the prognosis scored at a moderate level for patients, while complexity of treatment and the system of care and inconsistency or lack of information, about the diagnosis or severity of the illness were at a low level. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused major disruptions in healthcare services worldwide. Yet, little is known about the association between perceived disruption in healthcare services and sociodemographic factors, pre-existing health conditions as well as concurrent physical and psychological symptoms. Methods: Leveraging data from the Icelandic COVID-19 National Resilience Cohort, we performed a repeated measure analysis among 15 754 participants who responded to the question on perceived disruption in healthcare services from December 2020 to July 2021, to explore its association with socio-demographic factors, health indicators and conditions. Furthermore, we performed a longitudinal analysis among 7848 participants with two repeated measures to explore the association between timing and duration of perceived disruption in healthcare services and changes in depression, anxiety, sleep quality and somatic symptoms. Results: The prevalence of perceived disruption in healthcare services slightly decreased over time (P<0.01). Perceived disruption in healthcare services was more prevalent among individuals with pre-existing health conditions, i.e. history of psychiatric disorders (prevalence ratio=1.59, 95% confidence interval 1.48-1.72) and chronic somatic conditions [1.40 (1.30-1.52)]. However, no increase in the prevalence of perceived disruption in healthcare services was observed among individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 [0.99 (0.84-1.18)]. Moreover, we found that emerging perceived disruption in healthcare services was associated with an increase in symptoms of mental illness during the pandemic (bs 0.06-0.68). Conclusions: A disruption in healthcare services during the COVID-19 pandemic was reported by vulnerable groups, while the Icelandic healthcare system managed to maintain accessible services to individuals with COVID-19. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between fertility issues and demographic characteristics of unmarried adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. Methods: We conducted a survey among cancer survivors who were 15–39 years old and unmarried at the time of cancer diagnosis and 20–45 years old at the time of the survey. Views on fertility issues, originally developed based on the results of a qualitative study conducted with the same inclusion criteria, were used to assess thoughts and feelings regarding fertility issues. Results: Through exploratory factor analysis of the 128 respondents who either had children or desired children, two factors related to fertility issues were identified: "anxiety related to the possibility of not being able to have children" and "pressure from others to have children." Multiple regression analysis was performed to examine the association between these factors and demographic characteristics. The analysis revealed that being male and having a partner were significant predictors for both factors for views on fertility issues. Additionally, younger age at the time of diagnosis was a significant predictor for the first factor. Conclusions: Greater fertility issues among unmarried cancer survivors were associated with younger age at diagnosis, having a partner, and being male. Surprisingly, contrary to previous findings, male cancer survivors experienced more significant fertility problems than women. This result may be attributed to the well-established gender roles in Japan, where men are predominantly considered the heirs and inheritors of the family. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The diagnosis of gestational diabetes (GDM) identifies women who are at future risk of developing type 2 diabetes. However, it is unclear if diagnosing GDM thus motivates women to increase physical activity after pregnancy or if this medicalization has the opposite effect of decreasing activity, possibly reflecting assumption of a sick role. We thus sought to evaluate the impact of diagnosing GDM on changes in maternal physical activity after pregnancy. Methods: In this prospective cohort study, physical activity patterns were assessed by the Baecke questionnaire for the year before pregnancy and the first year postpartum in 405 white women comprising the following three gestational glucose tolerance groups: (a) those who did not have GDM (non‐GDM; n = 247), (b) women with undiagnosed GDM (n = 46) and (c) those diagnosed with GDM (n = 112). Results: In the year before pregnancy, mean adjusted total physical activity progressively decreased from non‐GDM to undiagnosed GDM to diagnosed GDM (p =.067). Conversely, at 1 year postpartum, total physical activity was highest in those who had been diagnosed with GDM (p =.02). Compared with non‐GDM, diagnosed GDM predicted an increase in total physical activity from pre‐pregnancy to 1 year postpartum (t = 2.3, p =.02) whereas undiagnosed GDM predicted a concurrent decrease in leisure‐time activity (t = −2.74, p =.006). Accordingly, the mean adjusted increase in body mass index from pre‐pregnancy to 1 year postpartum was lowest in those with diagnosed GDM (0.26 ± 0.25 kg/m2), highest in undiagnosed GDM (1.23 ± 0.38 kg/m2) and intermediate in non‐GDM (0.89 ± 0.22 kg/m2) (overall p =.04). Objectives: To assess the diagnostic delay, the number and type of referrals and the clinical and psychological profile in a wide sample of patients with Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS). Materials and Methods: Data on the disease onset, oral symptoms, type and number of practitioners consulted, misdiagnoses, and the presence of medically unexplained extraoral physical symptoms were recorded in 500 BMS patients. Potential predictors of diagnostic delay were also evaluated. Results: The mean diagnostic delay was 29.71 ± 47.19 months. An average of 2.61 ± 1.65 practitioners were consulted by each patient, the most frequent being the general physicians (287; 57.4%), maxillofacial surgeons (111; 22.2%), and otolaryngologists (104; 20.8%). The mean number of misdiagnoses was 3.54 ± 1.85. Nonspecific stomatitis, candidiasis, and gastroesophageal reflux were the most common misdiagnoses. Higher age, low education, the presence of dysgeusia, and a previous history of psychiatric illness were predictors of a longer diagnostic delay (p‐value: 0.028, 0.050, 0.007, 0.034, respectively). Conclusions: The lack of knowledge among specialists, the high rate of misdiagnosis, and the diagnostic delay of BMS highlight the need to introduce educational interventions in all medical specialties in order to promote an early and appropriate diagnosis, thereby improving the prognosis and quality of life of the patients. Simple Summary: Individuals diagnosed with cancer and experiencing mental health challenges such as depression, psychosis, anxiety, or addictions face heightened socioeconomic risks. Background: Cancer rehabilitation represents a series of measures adopted for the recovery of psychological, emotional, social, and financial functioning in the case of cancer patients. The purpose of this study is to identify the main elements of therapeutic management in the field of medical rehabilitation, as well as integrative, complementary medicine and holistic approaches that can be performed on the oncological patient. Methods: This systematic literature review follows the methodology outlined in the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis" ("PRISMA") statement, which is an internationally recognized and widely accepted standard. Results: Active rehabilitative therapies offer therapeutic options for improving the functioning and quality of life of oncological patients; these therapies comprehensively address both the physical and psychological aspects of the disease. This review also includes the latest novelties and nanotechnologies applied in oncological rehabilitation, for example, drugs (or supplements) inspired by nature. Conclusions: Physical and rehabilitation medicine, mostly using stimulating therapeutic methods, was recently added to the list of contraindications in the management of oncological patients, both as an approach to the pathological concept itself and as an approach to the main clinical consequences and functional aspects of oncological therapies. Integrative, complementary medicine presents an important therapeutic resource in the case of oncological patients. Background The Gambia, located in West Africa, is one of 7 country sites conducting the Enterics for Global Health (EFGH) Shigella Surveillance Study to establish incidence and consequence of Shigella -associated medically attended diarrhea among children 6–35 months old. Methods Here we describe the study site and research experience, sociodemographic characteristics of the study catchment area, facilities of recruitment for diarrhea case surveillance, and known care-seeking behavior for diarrheal illness. We also describe The Gambia's healthcare system and financing, current vaccine schedule and Shigella vaccine adaptation, local diarrhea management guidelines and challenges, and antibiotic resistance patterns in the region. Conclusions The EFGH study in The Gambia will contribute to the multisite network of Shigella surveillance study and prepare the site for future vaccine trials. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the relationship between family functioning, pain intensity, self-perceived burden, and pain catastrophizing. Moreover, we also wanted to explore the multiple mediating roles of pain intensity and self-perceived burden. From October 2022 to March 2023, 252 Chinese people with neuropathic pain completed face-to-face questionnaires to assess family functioning, pain intensity, self-perceived burden, and pain catastrophizing. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and a structural equation model. The results showed better family functioning was significantly associated with more intense pain, less self-perceived burden, and less pain catastrophizing. Mediation analysis showed that family functioning could indirectly affect pain catastrophizing through pain intensity and self-perceived burden in addition to a direct effect on pain catastrophizing. Moreover, the mediating variable of pain intensity played a masking role. These findings suggest that good family functioning can effectively reduce the self-perceived burden and pain catastrophizing in patients with neuropathic pain. However, family functioning cannot show its maximum effectiveness, and it may be necessary to construct a model of family functioning suitable for patients with neuropathic pain in the future. Children with transfusion-dependent thalassemia experience stressful conditions related to chronic anemia, repeated blood transfusions, and iron chelation adherence. They are vulnerable to emotional and behavioral problems and psychosocial disturbances. An observational evaluation of psychosocial issues in children with TDTs aged 4–18 using Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaires (SDQ). Psychosocial part in children with TDTs often experiences difficulties in childhood under 10 years old, compared to adolescents (11–18 years) for emotional symptoms and conduct problems. Boys and girls had similar psychosocial problems regarding emotional symptoms, conduct problems, hyperactivity-inatttention, peer relationship problems, and prosocial behavior. In a quarter of cases, they had emotional symptoms, conduct, and hyperactivity-inattention issues, especially in younger children. Interestingly, younger children have more problems than adolescence in peer relations even though they are still under strict parental supervision. Difficulties in emotion, conduct, and hyperactivity would affect their relationship life. Children may try to be accepted by their social environment (prosocial) even though they realize that there are problems in their emotional life and peer relationships. BACKGROUND: No study to date has concurrently evaluated the impact of radiological factors, psychosocial factors, and central sensitization (CS) related symptoms in a single lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSS) patient cohort. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the associations between these factors and clinical symptoms in LSS patients. METHODS: We recruited 154 patients with LSS scheduled for surgery. Patient-reported outcome measures and imaging evaluation including clinical symptoms, psychosocial factors, CS-related symptoms, and radiological classifications. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient and multiple regression analyses were employed. RESULTS: Spearman's correlation revealed CS-related symptoms positively correlated with low back pain (r = 0.25, p < 0.01), leg pain (r = 0.26, p < 0.01), and disability (r = 0.32, p < 0.01). Pain catastrophizing positively correlated with leg pain (r = 0.23, p < 0.01) and disability (r = 0.36, p < 0.01). Regression analysis showed that pain catastrophizing was associated with disability (β = 0.24, 95%CI = 0.03–0.18), and CS-related symptoms with low back pain (β = 0.28, 95%CI = 0.01–0.09). Radiological classifications were not associated with clinical symptoms. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that psychosocial factors and CS-related symptoms, rather than radiological factors, seem to contribute to clinical symptoms in patients with LSS. High fear was associated with being female, being younger, lower levels of education, and worse survival estimates. High fear correlated with more depression, anxiety, somatic symptoms, uncertainty, and stronger social support. Multivariate analyses indicated that younger patients, those with shorter survival estimates, higher depression and anxiety scores, more uncertainty, and stronger social support had a greater likelihood of experiencing fear of recurrence, while the opposite was true for older patients. This study investigated the role of oral health‐related functional limitations and social well‐being, self‐perceived health, psychosocial factors, and social support in mediating the impact of malocclusion on health‐related quality of life (HRQoL). A school‐based 6‐month cohort study was conducted with 376 12‐year‐old deprived adolescents. Measures at baseline included malocclusion (DAI score), dental caries, sociodemographic characteristics, psychosocial traits (self‐esteem, sense of coherence, oral health beliefs), and social support. The oral health‐related functional limitations and symptoms (social well‐being) domains of the CPQ11‐14, self‐perceived health, and HRQoL (Kiddo‐KINDL) were evaluated at the 6‐month follow‐up. Associations between observed and latent variables (social support, psychosocial factors, and HRQoL) were evaluated using structural equation modelling, according to the Wilson and Cleary theoretical model. Malocclusion was indirectly associated with worse HRQoL, mediated by functional limitations, social well‐being, and self‐perceived health. Better psychosocial status was directly associated with better HRQoL, and higher social support was indirectly associated with better HRQoL via psychosocial factors. Dental caries experience, female sex, and lower family income were indirectly associated with worse HRQoL. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the educational, social, and psychological lives of children and young people. Many countries have transitioned to online education because of the pandemic. This study aimed to examine the levels of fear of nursing students about COVID-19 and their attitudes towards e-learning. This study was designed as a cross-sectional and descriptive study. The data were collected using the COVID-19 Phobia Scale and the Attitude Scale Towards E-learning. This research was conducted with nursing students (n = 301) who received online education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The students' mean COVID-19 Phobia Scale score was 49.26 ± 15.88; the mean Attitude Scale Towards E-learning score was 59.46 ± 17.00, and a significantly positive relationship was found between the participants' scores on both scales (r = 0.122; p < 0.034). Diagnosis of schizophrenia complicated patient's condition when poly-pharmacy was introduced. Purpose: The overall purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between fatigue, executive functioning, and quality of life for children with moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) between 8 and 17 years old. Method: Fifteen parents of children with moderate-severe TBI (M = 10.06 years old) completed an online survey. Data from the following measures were included in this study's analyses: demographic and injury questions, the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function, Second Edition (BRIEF-2), Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Generic Core Scale (PedsQL GCS)-parent report, and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Multidimensional Fatigue Scale (PedsQL MFS)-parent report. Results: In a multiple regression, fatigue was found to be a significant predictor of quality of life for children with TBI, but executive functioning was not a significant predictor. When examining subdomains of functioning, worse sleep/rest fatigue and emotional executive functioning were most consistently associated with worse physical and psychosocial quality of life. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that fatigue could be an important contributing factor to reduced quality of life for children with moderate-severe TBI. Medical and educational professionals, including speech-language pathologists, should assess children with TBI for the presence and impact of fatigue. This literature review focused on homicide bereavement (HB) risk factors. A content analysis was conducted on 83 empirical papers published in English from January 2000 to December 2021 in peer-reviewed journals. Extracted HB risk factors were synthesized according to six main dimensions: individual level; situational homicide-related factors; and micro, meso, exo, and macro social levels. The review demonstrates that macro-level and situational homicide-related risk factors are in special need of further study. In addition, how HB risk factors interact with one another to influence HB also requires further study. Future research may benefit from examining whether and how individuals experiencing HB influence related factors at various social levels. Men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV have been studied extensively for stigmatization and inequitable factors affecting well-being. Although intersecting factors are acknowledged in some studies, they are rarely discussed in the context of health implications among multiple minority identities. This leaves psychosocial research outputs to focus their efforts among less stigmatized MSM groups, white men, while disregarding specific issues among historically marginalized MSM-related identities (e.g., racialized, Indigenous, and aging populations). As per the 95-95-95 goals set by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS, this systematic review covers psychosocial protective and risk factors experienced by HIV-positive MSM while also considering other intersecting identities. Following a standardized search inquiry, 2,139 records were identified and narrowed down to 24 peer-reviewed articles which were systematically reviewed. Psychological and social protective factors are contextually described. Some risk factors such as co-occurring stigmas, psychological distress, exposure to violence, and trauma among diverse MSM can potentiate greater risk-taking behaviours associated with HIV transmission among HIV-positive men. These findings highlight factors that contribute to resilient pathways among racialized minorities and other intersections among MSM while also examining specific psychological stressors. Tailored interventions and care for minorities with intersecting identities, with a focus on co-occurring stigmas, are crucial to ensure the well-being of diverse HIV-positive MSM and reduce HIV transmission. We propose an adaptation to the minority stress model to refine available tools and provide future studies with more accurate depictions of the lived experiences among diverse MSM. Patients diagnosed with functional (psychogenic nonepileptic) seizures have similar or greater levels of disability, morbidity and mortality than people with epilepsy, but there are far fewer treatment services. In contrast to epilepsy, the current understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms and the development of evidence-based treatments for functional seizures is rudimentary. This leads to high direct healthcare costs and high indirect costs to the patient, family and wider society. There are many patient, clinician and system-level barriers to improving outcomes for functional seizures. At a patient level, these include the heterogeneity of symptoms, diagnostic uncertainty, family factors and difficulty in perceiving psychological aspects of illness and potential benefits of treatment. Clinician-level barriers include sub-specialism, poor knowledge, skills and attitudes and stigma. System-level barriers include the siloed nature of healthcare, the high prevalence of functional seizures and funding models relying on individual medical practitioners. Through the examination of international examples and expert recommendations, several themes emerge that may address some of these barriers. These include (1) stepped care with low-level, brief generalised interventions, proceeding to higher level, extended and individualised treatments; (2) active triage of complexity, acuity and treatment readiness; (3) integrated interdisciplinary teams that individualise formulation, triage, and treatment planning and (4) shared care with primary, emergency and community providers and secondary consultation. Aim: To explore young adults' experiences of living with type 1 diabetes in the transition to adulthood, including experiences of the transfer from paediatric to adult care. Design: A qualitative approach was used. Method: Ten young adults, six women and four men, aged 19–29 years, participated. Participants were recruited at their regular diabetes clinic from spring 2021 to spring 2022. Semi‐structured interviews were transcribed and analysed using qualitative content analysis. Findings: Dreaming of being nurtured towards self‐reliance was the overarching theme. Personal experiences of the transition to adulthood, including the transfer from paediatric to adult care, were described in terms of struggling to find balance in daily life, dealing with feelings of being different, being gradually supported to achieve independence, and wishing to be approached as a unique person in healthcare. Conclusion: In healthcare, it is important to emphasize not only diabetes‐related factors but also emotional and psychosocial aspects of life connected to the transition to adulthood, including the transfer to adult care. The young adults wished to be seen as unique persons in healthcare during their emerging adulthood and should therefore be supported to achieve self‐reliance through personal preparations for new challenges and for the consequences of transitioning to adulthood. Specialist nurses can provide appropriate knowledge and leadership. Implications for the Profession: These findings can guide nurse specialists in support for emerging adults to achieve self‐reliance and indicate the importance of person‐centred care when experiencing transition and transfer. Studies have shown that COVID-19 patients experience high levels of anxiety, depression, and stress during the pandemic. Patients adopt different coping strategies to reduce their psychological distress To compare the immediate and long-term psychological impact of COVID-19 disease on patients with and without chronic medical illnesses (CMI) and identify coping styles of both groups during the peak of COVID-19 disease in Egypt. This is a cohort follow-up study, that included an online survey consisting of General Health Questionnaire-12, Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale, Beck Depression Inventory and Brief-COPE scale. The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Checklist was completed after 6 months. Questionnaires were distributed to adult patients with a confirmed diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection during their quarantine in Egypt. There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding anxiety and depression during the acute infection. Patients without CMI relied significantly on the use of informational support to cope with COVID-19 disease. Patients with CMI continued to show significant depressive symptoms after 6 months without significant PTSD symptoms. This paper seeks to understand the patterns of social experiences of women patients by means of an empirical study undertaken in the Jammu region of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in India. Social factors play an immense role in determining the onset and management of lifestyle diseases among South Asian women. These social factors entail some peculiar entities that require detailed investigation. Data were collected in Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, and its allied hospitals. Results show that for women, social factors and their impact on illness patterns have a strong bearing on their care‐seeking behavior. Care‐seeking behavior of women in this part of the country is determined by their social status and is determined by the meanings that are provided to these illness experiences. Therefore, physical pain and related symptoms were not found to impact these women as much as changes in their socio‐familial status due to the onset of lifestyle diseases. These diseases can broadly be categorized into three categories, namely, socially stigmatising diseases, socially irrelevant diseases, and socio‐economically burdensome diseases. However, these categories are not fixed for a particular disease. As the experiences of the women undergo change, so does the categorization of the disease. Hence, diabetes may be a socially irrelevant disease at one point of time. Nevertheless, as the condition of the patient deteriorates, diabetes becomes a socio‐economically burdensome disease. That is why lifestyle diseases keeps circulating from one category to another every time a patient encounters a new result arising from a lifestyle disease. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited red blood cell (RBC) disorder transmitted to the child through the parental genes. SCD is a serious public health problem in Sudan, ranging from 18.2% to 30.4%, with the sickle cell anemia gene known to be prevalent in the Khartoum area. This study aimed to explore the psychosocial impact of SCD on affected children and parents and to identify the relationship between psychosocial problems experienced by children and parents with the use of two scales. To address the research aim, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) was administered among n = 170 SCD children aged 6–12 years. In addition, the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) was used to measure levels of depression, anxiety, and stress in parents of children with SCD. Most of the children experienced substantially high emotional symptoms (n = 113), with conduct problems (n = 113), hyperactivity (n = 100), and peer problems (n = 86) being close to average. Most of the parents had the normal level of depression (n = 78), anxiety (n = 92), and stress (n = 85), with severe and extremely severe cases being the least recorded. Further analysis of the association between the SDQ scale and DASS-21 showed a significant association between parental stress and children's conduct problems (p = 0.009), hyperactivity (p = 0.03), and the pro-social behavior of the child (p = 0.03). No association was found between parental anxiety, depression, and emotional symptoms, conduct problems, hyperactivity, and peer problems. Drawing on conservation of resources (COR) theory, we aimed to investigate whether leisure crafting reduces emotional exhaustion by improving sleep quality and strengthening psychological detachment from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. We posited that sleep quality and psychological detachment from the COVID‐19 pandemic mediate the negative relationship between leisure crafting and emotional exhaustion. We carried out a two‐wave longitudinal study among a group of individuals (N = 216) from Wuhan, China. We measured leisure crafting, sleep quality, and psychological detachment from the COVID‐19 pandemic at Time 1 and emotional exhaustion two months later at Time 2. We discovered that leisure crafting reduced emotional exhaustion at home by improving sleep quality and increasing psychological detachment from the COVID‐19 pandemic. Children's socio‐emotional adjustment during the COVID‐19 pandemic could depend on their pre‐pandemic risk of heightened socio‐emotional distress and available resources. In a sample of elementary school‐aged children from low‐income neighbourhoods in Germany, we examined children's socio‐emotional adjustment throughout two pandemic‐related school closing periods of 5 months each and explored possible determinants of their adjustment. On three occasions before and after school closing, home‐room teachers reported on the distress of 365 children (Mage = 8.45, 53% female) and provided information on their family backgrounds and internal resources. We studied child pre‐pandemic risk of low socio‐emotional adjustment based on low basic care by families and group membership (i.e., recently arrived refugee, deprived Roma family). We studied child resources regarding families' home learning support during school closings and selected internal resources of the children (German reading skills, academic ability). Results showed that children's distress did not increase throughout the school closings. Instead, their distress remained at constant levels or even decreased. On pre‐pandemic risk, only low basic care was linked to higher levels of distress and worse trajectories. On child resources, home learning support, academic ability, and German reading skills were inconsistently linked to less distress and better trajectories depending on the school closing period. Introduction: Osteoporosis is a significant clinical and public health concern worldwide. Despite the impact of this condition on women's lives, most studies have focused on its clinical manifestations, drug efficacy, and medical treatment. Furthermore, most studies have been conducted in the West. This study aimed to uncover the personal experiences of postmenopausal Omani women living with osteoporosis. Methods: In this interpretive phenomenological study, a purposive sample of 15 postmenopausal Omani women with osteoporosis was recruited from primary and secondary care facilities in Muscat, Oman. Semi‐structured one‐to‐one interviews were conducted via Zoom and telephone because of coronavirus disease 2019 restrictions. The interviews were audio‐recorded, and the Ajjawi and Higgs framework was used to analyse the data thematically. Results: The following key themes were constructed from the interviews: the impact of osteoporosis on religious practices, cultural and social life, and financial status, and the benefits derived from religious and cultural practices and rituals, including Muslim prayer, recitation of Quranic verses, and herbal remedies to cope with osteoporosis‐related pain and suffering. Conclusion: Osteoporosis and fragility fractures have a significant impact on the religious, cultural, and financial lives of postmenopausal Omani women with osteoporosis. Muslim prayers, recitation of Quranic verses, and herbal remedies are coping strategies for pain in this population. Simple Summary: The aim of this survey of long-term survivors (LTS) with ovarian cancer was to enhance the knowledge on the patient characteristics and health concerns of this growing patient cohort in order to tailor follow-up care. Follow-up care is usually carried out within the first five years after initial diagnosis, before they are transferred to general physicians and gynecologists. Interestingly, in our cohort of 1044 LTS from 14 countries, most patients with a median survival time of eleven years after initial diagnosis still received regular follow-up care (94.2%). Forty-six percent still reported cancer- and therapy-related symptoms (i.e., gastrointestinal problems, fatigue, lymphedema, and neurological problems). The present analysis confirms the symptom checklist and clinical relevance of the GCIG consensus guideline on long-term survival with gynecological cancer. Follow-up care should be offered beyond the typical five years as specialized survivorship care with a focus on long-term side effects, lifestyle, and prevention. The aim of this survey was to increase the knowledge on the characteristics and health concerns of long-term survivors (LTS; survival > 5 years) after ovarian cancer in order to tailor follow-up care. This international survey was initiated by the NOGGO and was made available to members of ENGOT and GCIG. The survey is anonymous and consists of 68 questions regarding sociodemographic, medical (cancer) history, health concerns including distress, long-term side effects, and lifestyle. For this analysis, 1044 LTS from 14 countries were recruited. In total, 58% were diagnosed with FIGO stage III/IV ovarian cancer and 43.4% developed recurrent disease, while 26.0% were receiving cancer treatment at the time of filling in the survey. LTS who survived 5–10 years self-estimated their health status as being significantly worse than LTS who survived more than 10 years (p = 0.034), whereas distress also remained high 10 years after cancer diagnosis. Almost half of the cohort (46.1%) reported still having symptoms, which were mainly lymphedema (37.7%), fatigue (23.9%), pain (21.6%), polyneuropathy (16.9%), gastrointestinal problems (16.6%), and memory problems (15.5%). Almost all patients (94.2%) regularly received follow-up care. Objective: In this study, we assessed the functional and biopsychosocial characteristics of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients according to disease subtypes. Materials and Methods: Child Health Assessment Questionnaire (CHAQ), Juvenile Arthritis Disease Activity Score-71 (JADAS-71), and Juvenile Arthritis Biopsychosocial Questionnaire (JAB-Q) scales were administered to 304 JIA patients, and the subscale of JAB-Q was administered to their families. Results: The median age of JIA patients at diagnosis was 7.9 (5.5-13) years (female/male = 1.3). Most patients were under treatment (68.7%) and had inactive disease (69.3%). While there was no significant difference between JADAS-71 scores according to the JIA subtypes, total CHAQ scores in polyarticular JIA patients were higher than in systemic JIA patients (P = .005). Enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA) patients had higher JAB-Q fatigue total scores compared to systemic JJIA patients (P = .001). Juvenile Arthritis Biopsychosocial Questionnaire—child psychosocial status scores were higher in polyarticular JIA patients than oligoarticular and systemic JIA patients (P = .004 and P = .003, respectively), and they had higher JAB-Q child form total scores than systemic JIA patients (P = .006). In addition, systemic JIA patients’ parents had higher JAB-Q family total scores compared to oligoarticular JIA patients’ parents (P = .03). Conclusion: Our results suggest that polyarticular JIA patients had higher CHAQ, JAB-Q psychosocial status, and child form total scores, and the JAB-Q fatigue score was higher in ERA patients. Also, JAB-Q—parent scores were higher in systemic JIA patients’ parents. Biopsychosocial characteristics should be evaluated in both JIA patients and their parents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An impaired sexual functioning has been found to be more frequent in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) than in the general population and other clinical groups. Less is known about the psychological processes associated with this altered sexual response. The present study was carried out to investigate the association between attachment styles and sexual response (i.e. sexual excitation and inhibition) in a group of patients with OCD, controlling for socio-demographics, OCD severity, psychiatric and personality comorbidity, serotonergic medications, and obsessive cognitions. Seventy-two patients with OCD and 72 matched healthy individuals were recruited. OCD patients self-reported significantly higher levels of sexual excitation and inhibition, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, obsessive cognitions, and attachment styles characterized by discomfort with closeness, need for approval, and preoccupation with relationships. The MANCOVA analysis revealed that patients with more severe symptoms had lower propensity to experience sexual excitation. Patients with stronger confidence and need for approval were less inhibited. Attachment styles may be a feature involved in the propensity for sexual response of OCD patients, and they should be assessed during clinical practice with this clinical population. Background: Aphasia can affect the communication between the person with aphasia (PWA) and the communication partner (CP). It is therefore necessary to support both the PWA and their CPs. Communication partner training (CPT) focuses on training communication between dyads of whom one person has aphasia. Although there is increasing evidence supporting CPT as an effective intervention to improve communication and reduce the psychosocial consequences of stroke, implementation in clinical practice remains limited. Aim: To understand the mechanisms behind the practice–evidence gap currently hindering CPT implementation, this study investigated the role of (1) education, (2) concept knowledge, (3) work setting and (4) clinical experience in CPT. Methods & Procedures: Flemish speech and language therapists (SLTs) clinically involved in aphasia rehabilitation were surveyed online regarding CPT. Statistical analyses include descriptive statistics to report survey results and non‐parametric group comparisons to investigate the role of the four variables on CPT. Outcomes & Results: In this study 72 SLTs were included, of whom 73.61% indicated they deliver CPT but of whom only 43.10% indicated CP presence during therapy. The most frequently identified barriers to CPT delivery were lack of time and CPT‐specific knowledge. Other barriers were lack of resources, work setting dependent factors, PWA or CP dependent factors, individual therapy to the PWA being of higher priority, existing CPT methods and interventions being perceived as unclear and feeling uncertain about CPT delivery. Concerning the role of the four variables on CPT delivery, neither education nor concept knowledge had a significant effect on CPT delivery. Work setting and clinical experience did, however, influence CPT delivery. More specifically, CPT delivery and CP presence were higher in the private practice (chronic phase) compared to the other three settings and experienced SLTs deliver CPT more often compared with less experienced SLTs. Conclusions & Implications: To reduce the practice–evidence gap, we suggest prioritising the two most frequently identified barriers, that is, lack of time and CPT‐specific knowledge. To overcome the time barrier in CPT, we propose implementing automated natural speech analysis to reduce the workload. To enhance CPT‐specific knowledge, speech and language therapy curricula should provide more in‐depth theory and hands‐on practice for CPT. In addition, increased awareness about CPT‐specific methods is needed to further support clinical practice. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on the subject: Communication partner training (CPT) is an effective intervention to improve communication and reduce the psychosocial consequences of stroke. Despite this evidence base, a current practice–evidence gap exists. What this study adds: This is the first study to characterise CPT delivery in a Flemish cohort of speech and language therapists (SLTs). In addition, on a more international perspective, few studies have investigated the role of education, concept knowledge, work setting and clinical experience in CPT. We found that neither education nor concept knowledge has a significant effect on CPT delivery. CPT delivery and communication partner presence are significantly higher in the private practice compared to the hospital, rehabilitation centre or nursing home settings. Experienced SLTs deliver CPT more often compared with less‐experienced SLTs. The two most prominent reported barriers include lack of time and CPT‐specific knowledge. What are the clinical implications of this work?: This study suggests reducing the practice–evidence gap by alleviating the main barriers identified, that is, lack of time and CPT‐specific knowledge. Background: Cognitive‐communication disorders (CCDs) are common in the traumatic brain injury (TBI) population. Despite this, there has been limited research that explores the long‐term impacts of reduced cognitive‐communication functioning on daily life for this population. Aims: To identify the long‐term impacts of cognitive‐communication impairment as reported by adults with TBI and their significant others. Methods & Procedures: A qualitative descriptive approach grounded in phenomenology was used. Semi‐structured, one‐on‐one interviews were conducted with adults with CCDs following TBI (n = 16) and their significant others (n = 12) to explore their lived experiences. Outcomes & Results: Reflexive thematic analysis revealed an overarching theme of 'The pervasive and unyielding impacts of cognitive‐communication changes on daily life following TBI'. Within this overarching theme, three subthemes were identified: (1) self‐awareness of communication changes; (2) fatigue; and (3) self‐identity and life roles. Conclusion & Implications: The findings from this study highlight the long‐term negative impacts of reduced cognitive‐communication functioning on daily life. Health professionals supporting this population should consider ways to reduce the significant impact CCDs have on the lives of adults following TBI and their significant others. In addition, the findings highlight the importance of long‐term rehabilitation services following TBI, with further research needed that explores how these services can be optimised. What this paper adds: What is already known on this subject: Cognitive‐communication disorders (CCDs) affect the majority of adults who experience moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and encompass any component of communication that is affected by cognition. The hallmark characteristic of CCDs are breakdowns that affect social communication skills as well as cognitive‐linguistic deficits. Combined, these can have dramatic implications for a person's quality of life, their level of independence, employment opportunities and social participation. There has been limited research to date that explores the long‐term impacts of CCDs on the lives of adults following TBI. Further research that explores these impacts is needed to improve the support services and rehabilitation models of care available for this population. What this study adds: The overarching theme was 'The pervasive and unyielding impacts of communication changes on daily life following TBI' with subthemes including changed communication, self‐awareness of communication changes, fatigue and self‐identity and life roles. Adolescents commonly experience chronic pain, which can have considerable multidimensional effects on their lives, impacting, for example, their school functioning, leisure activities, sleep, and emotional functioning. Therefore, valid and reliable measurements of these multidimensional and potentially adverse effects, reflecting both the adolescents' and parents' perceptions, are essential. At present, no such measures are available in Iceland. The primary aim of the current study was to translate the Bath Adolescent Pain Questionnaire (BAPQ) and the Bath Adolescent Pain Questionnaire parent version (BAPQ‐P) and evaluate the psychometric qualities of the Icelandic translation. The study's secondary aim was to investigate the multidimensional impact of chronic pain on adolescents with chronic illness using these instruments. Participants were 45 adolescents (11–16 years old) registered in the medical records of the National University Hospital of Iceland with one of the following diagnoses: (1) Crohn's or colitis (IBD); (2) migraine; or (3) arthritis. Sixty‐nine parents of the diagnosed adolescents also participated (a total of 41 adolescent and parent dyads). To establish the psychometric qualities of the BAPQ and BAPQ‐P, participants were asked to complete several questionnaires online. The preliminary results showed that the Icelandic translations of the BAPQ and BAPQ‐P scales have good psychometric qualities, providing valid and reliable measures to assess the multidimensional effects of chronic pain in adolescents in both clinical and research settings. Moreover, the results showed that chronic pain impacts various domains in the adolescents' lives and that the prevalence of anxiety and depression was quite high among them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

(1) Evaluate changes in medication adherence and the role of psychosocial and interpersonal factors on adherence. (2) Explain the changes in medication adherence based on patient perceptions of adherence behaviors. We used an explanatory sequential mixed methods design for surveys at baseline and 1-year follow-up, followed by interviews. The Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change guided the design of a questionnaire including self-reported measures of medication adherence, psychosocial factors such as illness and medication beliefs, self-efficacy, and depressive symptoms, interpersonal factors including social support and patient-provider communication, and socio-demographic and clinical factors. A convenience sample (n = 228) of adult patients with type 2 diabetes who self-identified as Black/African American completed the mail/telephone surveys. Nine semi-structured interviews were conducted with respondents of both surveys who had changes in medication adherence. Descriptive, mean differential, bivariate correlational analyses, and content analysis was conducted. Data integration merged quantitative and qualitative results as a joint display. Response rates for the baseline and follow-up survey were 28% and 47% respectively. Medication adherence scores were significantly correlated with illness perceptions (r =.30) and depression (r =.25) at baseline, and self-efficacy (r = −.51) and depression (r =.37) at follow-up. Qualitative themes included patient perceptions of adherence behaviors, impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, health literacy and self-efficacy. Mixed methods integration showed contrasting perceptions of the same themes including adherence behaviors, medication beliefs, social support, and patient-provider communication among participants whose medication adherence increased and decreased overtime. Self-efficacy, diabetes beliefs, and depressive symptoms were key psychosocial factors that affected medication adherence among Blacks/African Americans. Contrasting perceptions of beliefs in medicines, social support, provider relationships and communication among increased and decreased adherence participant groups explained the changes in adherence, which can be used to adapt existing interventions.
