Entheses are acknowledged as skeletal markers capable of revealing several biological and behavioral aspects of past individuals and populations. However, entheseal changes (ECs) of juvenile individuals have not yet been studied with a systematic approach. This contribution aims at investigating the morphological changes occurring at the femoral insertion of the gluteus maximus and tibial origin of the soleus muscles to highlight a potential link between the morphological features of those entheses and skeletal maturity in relation to sex, age, and locomotor developmental patterns. The sample consisted of 119 skeletons (age‐at‐death: 0–30 years) belonging to the Documented Human Skeletal Collection of the Certosa Cemetery (Bologna, Italy). The entheseal variation during the last stages of skeletal maturation in young adults was assessed using existing recording standards. A recording protocol for each enthesis was developed for immature individuals to subdivide the morphological variability into discrete categories. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistical analyses were performed to investigate the variation of entheseal morphologies and measurements in relation to bone metrics, degree of epiphyseal closure, sex, age, and locomotor developmental patterns. A statistically significant relationship was observed between ECs morphological patterns and age for both entheses, while sexual differences were negligible. A relationship between ECs morphological pattern and locomotor milestones emerged only for the gluteus maximus. Even though further testing is needed on other documented skeletal collections, our protocol could be usefully applied in forensic and archaeological fields and serving as important reference for evolutionary investigations. Study Design. A single-center retrospective case-control study. Objective. To compare the spine and total height velocity between Sanders maturation stage (SMS) 3A and 3B. Summary of Background Data. Identifying SMS 3 is critical for treating growing children because it represents the early phase of rapid adolescent growth. However, there is limited literature available that clearly describes the growth differences between 3A and 3B. Materials and Methods. The current study included consecutive patients with idiopathic scoliosis staged SMS 3 from January 2012 to December 2021. T1-S1 spine height, total body height, and curve magnitude were measured at the initial and follow-up visits. In addition to the spine and total height velocity calculated per month, corrected height velocity was estimated for curve magnitude using a validated formula. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare SMS 3A and 3B outcomes, followed by a multiple linear regression model to evaluate the association of the SMS subclassifications to growth velocity adjusted for confounding factors. Results. A total of 204 patients (66% girls, mean age: 12.3± 1.3 y) met the inclusion criteria. Patients staged SMS 3A had higher spine height velocity (mm/month) in both girls (2.3 vs. 1.5, P< 0.001) and boys (2.6 vs. 1.7, P< 0.001), as well as total height velocity [mm/month; (5.8 vs. 4.3, P< 0.001 for girls; 6.6 vs. 4.5, P< 0.001 for boys]. Corrected velocity showed similar results with greater spine and total height velocity in SMS 3A. Multivariate analysis indicated a significant association of the SMS subclassification to the spine and total height velocity. The scoliosis curve progression was comparable between SMS 3A and 3B. Conclusions. SMS 3A and 3B had differential growth velocity in the spine and total body height. These results indicate the importance of the SMS 3 subclassification for managing scoliosis treatment, including observation, bracing, and surgical interventions with fusion and growth modulation. Skeletal radiographs along with dental examination are frequently used for age estimation in medicolegal cases where documentary evidence pertaining to age is not available. Wrist and hand radiographs are the most common skeletal radiograph considered for age estimation. Other parts imaged are elbow, shoulder, knee, and hip according to suspected age categories. Age estimation by wrist radiographs is usually done by the Tanner-Whitehouse method where the maturity level of each bone is categorized into stages and a final total score is calculated that is then transformed into the bone age. Careful assessment and interpretation at multiple joints are needed to minimize the error and categorize into age-group. In this article, we aimed to summarize a suitable radiographic examination and interpretation for bone age estimation in living children, adolescents, young adults, and adults for medicolegal purposes. Accurate prediction of oocyte maturation is a critical determinant of success in in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) procedures. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the various predictive approaches employed to assess oocyte maturity, including single indicators, combined indicators, and predictive models. Factors such as ovarian reserve, patient characteristics, and controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) strategies can significantly influence oocyte maturation rates. Single indicators, including hormone levels, ultrasound parameters, and clinical parameters, have been extensively studied. However, their predictive power may be limited when used in isolation. Combined indicators, integrating multiple parameters, have demonstrated improved predictive performance compared to single indicators. Additionally, predictive models and algorithms, such as machine learning and deep learning models, have emerged as promising tools for assessing oocyte maturity. These models leverage advanced statistical and computational methods to analyze complex datasets and identify patterns that can predict oocyte maturation rates with potentially higher accuracy. Despite these advancements, several gaps and limitations persist, including limited generalizability, lack of standardization, insufficient external validation, and the need to incorporate patient-specific factors and emerging technologies. The review highlights potential areas for further research, such as multicenter collaborative studies, integration of advanced omics technologies, development of personalized prediction models, and investigation of trigger time optimization strategies. Recommendations for clinical practice include utilizing a combination of indicators, adopting validated predictive models, tailoring approaches based on individual patient characteristics, continuous monitoring and adjustment, and fostering multidisciplinary collaboration. Accurate prediction of oocyte maturation holds profound implications for improving the success rates of IVF-ET and enhancing the chances of achieving a healthy pregnancy. Adolescence is a timed process with an onset, tempo, and duration. Nevertheless, the temporal dimension, especially the pace of maturation, remains an insufficiently studied aspect of developmental progression. The primary objective is to estimate the precise influence of pubertal maturational tempo on the configuration of associative brain regions. To this end, the connection between maturational stages and the level of hierarchical organization of large‐scale brain networks in 12‐13‐year‐old females is analyzed. Skeletal maturity is used as a proxy for pubertal progress. The degree of maturity is defined by the difference between bone age and chronological age. To assess the level of hierarchical organization in the brain, the temporal dynamic of closed eye resting state high‐density electroencephalography (EEG) in the alpha frequency range is analyzed. Different levels of hierarchical order are captured by the measured asymmetry in the directionality of information flow between different regions. The calculated EEG‐based entropy production of participant groups is then compared with accelerated, average, and decelerated maturity. Results indicate that an average maturational trajectory optimally aligns with cerebral hierarchical order, and both accelerated and decelerated timelines result in diminished cortical organization. Background: Long-term management of intermediate- and high-risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) involves thyrotropin (TSH) suppression with thyroid hormone to prevent potential stimulation of TSH receptors on DTC cells, leading to tumor growth. However, the current guidelines recommending TSH suppression are based on low- to moderate-quality evidence. Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies evaluating the role of TSH suppression in intermediate- and high-risk DTC patients (≥18 years) treated as per regional guideline-based therapy with a follow-up duration of 5 years (PROSPERO #252396). TSH suppression was defined as "below normal reference range" or, when known, <0.5 mIU/L. Primary outcome measures included (i) composite of progression-free survival (PFS), disease-free survival (DFS), and relapse-free survival (RLFS), and (ii) composite of disease-specific survival (DSS), and overall survival (OS). Secondary outcome included a composite of cardiac or skeletal adverse events. All outcomes and comparisons were represented as TSH suppression versus TSH nonsuppression. Randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and case–control studies were included for analysis. Pooled hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using random-effects model. Results: Abstract screening was performed on 6,369 studies. After the exclusion of irrelevant studies and full-text screening, nine studies were selected for the final meta-analysis. Based on seven studies (3,591 patients), the composite outcome of PFS, DFS, and RLFS was not significantly different between TSH suppression and nonsuppression groups (HR: 0.75; 95% CI: 0.48–1.17; I2 = 76%). Similarly, a DSS and OS composite outcome assessment based on four studies (3,616 patients) did not favor TSH suppression (HR: 0.69; 95% CI: 0.31–1.52; I2 = 88%). Even after excluding studies of lower quality, the primary outcomes were not significantly different between the TSH suppression and nonsuppression cohorts. The secondary outcome, obtained from two studies (1,294 patients), was significantly higher in the TSH-suppressed groups (HR: 1.82; 95% CI: 1.30–2.55; I2 = 0%). Significant study heterogeneity was noted for primary outcomes. Conclusion: TSH suppression in intermediate- and high-risk DTC may not improve survival outcomes but may increase the risk of secondary complications. Purpose: To examine the distribution and characteristics of pediatric foot fractures on radiographs with respect to age and skeletal maturation, and to identify predictors of surgery. Methods: This retrospective study included children (≤ 18 years) with foot fractures, who underwent radiographic examinations (2020–2022). Electronic medical records were reviewed to obtain demographic and clinical data. Fracture characteristics, including anatomic location, presence of displacement, angulation, articular involvement, and, if skeletally immature, physeal involvement and Salter-Harris fracture pattern were collected. Logistic regression models were used to identify predictors of surgery. Results: 1,090 (596-boys, 494-girls; mean age, 11.0 ± 4.0 years) patients with 1,325 (59.8% metatarsal, 33.8% phalangeal, and 6.4% tarsal) fractures were included. Fractures of 1st metatarsal were more common among younger children whereas fractures of 2nd-4th and 5th metatarsals were more common among older children (median ages: 5.9 years vs. 10.3 years and 12.4 years, p < 0.001). Intra-articular fractures were more common among maturing and mature than immature bones (25.3% and 20.4% vs. 9.9%, p < 0.001). Physeal involvement was uncommon (162/977, 16.6%) and the most common pattern was Salter-Harris type II (133/162, 82.1%). A minority (47/1090, 4.3%) of patients required surgery and independent predictors of surgery included physeal involvement (OR = 5.12, 95% CI: 2.48–10.39, p < 0.001), multiple fractures (OR = 3.85, 95% CI: 1.67–8.53, p = 0.001), fracture displacement (OR = 9.16, 95% CI:4.43–19.07, p < 0.001), and articular involvement (OR = 2.72, 95% CI:1.27–5.72, p = 0.008). Using these predictors, the likelihood for surgery ranged between 8.0% with 1 and 86.7% with 3 predictors. Conclusion: Pediatric foot fracture patterns differed based on age and regional skeletal maturation. The floating toe deformity is classified as a forefoot deformity wherein the distal portion of the toe does not establish touch with the ground, resulting in a suspended or elevated position while the finger is in a relaxed state. At first, it garnered considerable interest as a complication It is worth noting that this condition is particularly common in children under the age of 8, which usually disappears as the individual reaches maturity. Studies have shown that with the aggravation of floating toe deformity, its adverse effects on patients' gait and overall quality of life also increase. Despite the prevalence of floating toe deformity in clinical settings, there is a lack of comprehensive literature investigating its underlying causes and potential preventive strategies. This scope review follows the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta‐analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA‐ScR) statement guidelines for scope reviews. The literature was obtained from various full‐text databases, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database (CNKI), Wanfang Database, PubMed, and Web of Science Database. Our search focused on published literature related to floating toes, Weil osteotomy, and distal metatarsal osteotomy, up until March 1, 2023. The literature search and data analysis are conducted by two independent reviewers. If there are any disagreements, a third researcher will participate in the discussion and negotiate a decision. Furthermore, two experienced foot and ankle surgeons conducted a thorough literature analysis for this review. Sixty‐two articles were included. Through the clinical analysis of the structural changes of the forefoot before and after operation, the classification of floating toe was described, the causes of pathological floating toe were summarized, and the possible intervention measures for the disease were put forward under the advice of foot and ankle surgery experts. We comprehensively summarize the current knowledge system about the etiology of floating toe and put forward the corresponding intervention strategy. We recommend that future studies will focus on the improvement of surgical procedures, such as the combination of Weil osteotomy, proximal interphalangeal (PIP) arthrodesis and flexor tendon arthrodesis. Study Design: Retrospective cohort study. Objective: To compare surgical and medical complications profile between neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons after transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) procedures. Background: Studies comparing the impact of spine surgeon specialty (neurosurgery vs. orthopedic spine) on TLIF outcomes have been inconclusive and failed to control for operative learning curves and surgical maturity. Orthopedic spine surgeons perform fewer spine procedures in residency, although these differences may be attenuated by mandatory fellowship before starting practice. Any observed differences are likely attenuated with increasing surgeon experience. Materials and Methods: Using an all-payer claims database, PearlDiver Mariner, 120 million patient records were analyzed between 2010 and 2022, to identify individuals with lumbar stenosis or spondylolisthesis who underwent index one- to three-level TLIF procedures. International Classification of Diseases--Ninth Edition (ICD- 9), International Classification of Diseases--10th Edition (ICD-10) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes were used to query the database. Only Neurosurgeons and Orthopedic spine surgeons who had performed at least 250 procedures were included in the study. Patients undergoing surgery for tumor, trauma, or infection were excluded. 1:1 exact matching was performed using demographic factors, medical comorbidities, and surgical factors which were significantly associatedwith all-cause surgical ormedical complications in a linear regression model. Results: 1:1 exact matching created two equal groups of 18,195 patients without baseline differences who underwent TLIF procedures by neurosurgeons or orthopedic surgeons. There was no difference in all-cause surgical complications between neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons (relative risk=1.008, 95% CI: 0.850--1.195, P=0.965). All-cause medical complication rate was higher in the neurosurgery cohort (relative risk =1.144, 95% CI: 1.042--1.258, P= 0.005). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that after accounting for surgical maturity, neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons have similar surgical outcomes. However, neurosurgeons have higher all-cause medical complication rates compared with orthopedic spine surgeons. Purpose: Congenital posteromedial bowing (CPMB) of tibia is a rare, usually self-resolving condition that is present at birth. The data on the long-term outcome of lengthening, choice of fixator, outcome in early and late age groups, and complications is sparse, hence the need for this study. Methods: This retrospective study included 93 patients with 94 affected legs from 1991 to 2023. The patients were categorized into early (under 10 years) and late (10 years or above) intervention groups. Eighteen patients with nineteen lengthening episodes who attained skeletal maturity made the basis of this study and will be discussed in detail. Results: The outcome for the lengthening group at maturity was satisfactory, with 5.53 cm of average length gained per lengthening episode, a mean LLD of 0.31 cm at final follow-up, a mean age of 23.63 years (range 14–38 years), and an average follow-up of 12.51 years (range 3–28 years) post-lengthening, but the procedure was associated with difficulties like ankle stiffness, tibial valgus, pin tract infections, and fractures through regenerate. Conclusion: This study represents a large single-centre series on CPMB. We recommend that surgery for lengthening should be done at an older age, close to skeletal maturity, wherever possible to reduce the risk of repeat lengthening procedures. Based on our experience, we recommend the use of a circular fixator. Uniplanar distractors should have an adequate number and spread of Schanz screws in each segment to reduce the risk of valgus malalignment of distracting segments of bone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background/Aims: Dental trauma resulting in tooth intrusion is a severe injury of permanent dentition, with a prevalence of 0.5%–1.9% among traumatic dental injuries. Currently, treatment guidelines for intruded permanent teeth depend on root development and the degree of intrusion. However, the categorization of tooth maturity as mature or immature simplifies a complex continuum of root development stages. This study aims to investigate the impact of various stages of root development on the success of spontaneous re‐eruption (SRE) of intruded teeth. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study analysed data from 80 children (125 teeth) aged 6–12 years who experienced dental intrusion between 2018 and 2022. Root maturation was classified based on Cvek's classification, eight were categorized as stage 1, 29 as stage 2, 44 as stage 3, 25 as stage 4, and 19 as stage 5. Intruded teeth with immature roots (Cvek's class 1–4) underwent SRE, while mature teeth (Cvek's class 5) were treated with SRE, orthodontic repositioning, or surgical repositioning based on the degree of intrusion. Primary outcome measures were successful re‐eruption and secondary outcomes included observed complications during follow‐up. Results: Regression analysis revealed that the patient's age, degree of root maturation, and degree of intrusion significantly affected spontaneous re‐eruption (p <.05). SRE was more successful in teeth with Cvek's stages 1 and 2 compared to stages 3 and 4. Complications were associated with the treatment method, degree of root immaturity, and degree of intrusion. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that as root maturation progresses, the likelihood of re‐eruption decreases, and the risk of pulp necrosis and infection increases. Unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH) is a rare cause of asymmetrical mandibular overgrowth because of the presence of an atypical growth in the affected condyle. SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) can easily establish the presence of an atypical, prolonged growth exceeding far beyond normal condylar growth and activity. A CT, CBCT, or LDCT (computed tomography, cone-beam computed tomography, or low-dose computed tomography) can confirm the diagnosis by evaluating the scope of bone overgrowth, mandibular basis/ramus asymmetry, tendency to condylar head enlargement, changes in bone density, and occurrence of differences in condylar head shapes, size, and bone structure. In most cases, a condylectomy is the procedure of choice in growing cases of UCH to remove the pathological condyle and reduce asymmetry levels. Sometimes, the growth is very slow and progressive over time, causing slowly growing asymmetry with similar symptoms to any other mandibular asymmetry, and this causes some troublesome procedures in UCH diagnostics, resulting in patients being underdiagnosed; it can even lead to some relapses in mandibular asymmetry and skeletal malocclusion after previously performed orthodontic and surgical treatment of such discrepancies. When the source of asymmetry is not identified in time, possible inadequate treatment protocols can be used. If any relapse of facial and mandibular asymmetry re-occur, SPECT and CT evaluation are necessary to evaluate if condylar hyperplasia is present and to establish what kind of surgical intervention should be used in each case. Background: This study aimed to assess the anthropometric measures and pubertal growth of children and adolescents with Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and to detect risk determinants affecting these measures and their link to glycemic control. Patients and methods: Two hundred children and adolescents were assessed using anthropometric measurements. Those with short stature were further evaluated using insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), bone age, and thyroid profile, while those with delayed puberty were evaluated using sex hormones and pituitary gonadotropins assay. Results: We found that 12.5% of our patients were short (height SDS < -2) and IGF-1 was less than -2 SD in 72% of them. Patients with short stature had earlier age of onset of diabetes, longer duration of diabetes, higher HbA1C and urinary albumin/creatinine ratio compared to those with normal stature (p < 0.05). Additionally, patients with delayed puberty had higher HbA1c and dyslipidemia compared to those with normal puberty (p < 0.05). The regression analysis revealed that factors associated with short stature were; age at diagnosis, HbA1C > 8.2, and albumin/creatinine ratio > 8 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Children with uncontrolled T1DM are at risk of short stature and delayed puberty. Diabetes duration and control seem to be independent risk factors for short stature. Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) stands out as one of the most prevalent sexual disorders in men, with its incidence progressively escalating with age. As delineated by the International Consultation Committee for Sexual Medicine on Definitions/Epidemiology/Risk Factors for Sexual Dysfunction, the prevalence of ED among men under 40 years is estimated to be within the range of 1–10%. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the concentration of bioelements (Zn, Cu, Fe, Cr, Mg, and Mn) in the serum and bone tissue and the concentration of selected hormones in men with and without erectile dysfunction. Materials and methods: The retrospective cohort study included 152 men who underwent total hip arthroplasty for hip osteoarthritis at the Department of Orthopaedic Traumatology and Musculoskeletal Oncology at the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin. Certain exclusion criteria were applied to ensure the integrity of the study. These included individuals with diabetes, a history of cancer, alcohol abuse, liver or kidney failure, New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III or IV heart failure, and those taking medications that affect bone metabolism, such as mineral supplements, neuroleptics, chemotherapeutic agents, immunosuppressants, corticosteroids, or antidepressants. Patients with hypogonadism or infertility were excluded from the study. Results: The study showed an association between bioT concentrations and Cu concentrations in both patients with and without erectile dysfunction. A correlation between bioactive testosterone and Cr concentrations was also observed in both groups. Patients with erectile dysfunction showed a relationship between bioT concentration and Zn concentration, TT concentration and Mn concentration, FT concentration and Zn concentration, and E2 concentration and Cr concentration. An analysis of elemental concentrations in bone tissue showed an association between FT and Mg and Mn concentrations, but only in patients with erectile dysfunction. In patients without erectile dysfunction, a correlation was observed between FT and Cu concentrations. A correlation was also observed between bioT concentrations and Mg, Mn, and Zn concentrations, but only in patients with erectile dysfunction. In patients without erectile dysfunction, a correlation was observed between bioT and Cu concentrations. Conclusions: Studying the relationship between the concentration of bioelements (Zn, Cu, Fe, Cr, Mg, and Mn) in the serum and bone tissue and the concentration of selected hormones in men may be important in explaining the etiology of the problem. The study of the concentration of Zn and Cu in bone tissue and serum showed that these two elements, regardless of the place of accumulation, may be related to the concentration of androgens in men. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) causes vertebral wedging, but associated factors and the impact of vertebral wedging are still unknown. We investigated associated factors and effects of vertebral wedging in AIS using computed tomography (CT). Preoperative patients (n = 245) with Lenke types-1 and 2 were included. Vertebral wedging, lordosis, and rotation of the apical vertebra were measured by preoperative CT. Skeletal maturity and radiographic global alignment parameters were evaluated. Multiple regression analysis was performed on associated factors for vertebral wedging. Side-bending radiographs were evaluated using multiple regression analysis to calculate the percentage of reduction of Cobb angles to determine curve flexibility. The mean vertebral wedging angle was 6.8 ± 3.1°. Vertebral wedging angle was positively correlated with proximal thoracic (r = 0.40), main thoracic (r = 0.54), and thoracolumbar/lumbar curves (r = 0.38). By multiple regression, the central sacral vertical line (p = 0.039), sagittal vertical axis (p = 0.049), main thoracic curve (p = 0.008), and thoracolumbar/lumbar curve (p = 0.001) were significant factors for vertebral wedging. In traction and side-bending radiographs there were positive correlations between curve rigidity and the vertebral wedging angle (r = 0.60, r = 0.59, respectively). By multiple regression, thoracic kyphosis (p < 0.001), lumbar lordosis (p = 0.013), sacral slope (p = 0.006), vertebral wedging angle (p = 0.003), and vertebral rotation (p = 0.002) were significant factors for curve flexibility. Distal radius fractures rank among the most prevalent fractures in humans, necessitating accurate radiological imaging and interpretation for optimal diagnosis and treatment. In addition to human radiologists, artificial intelligence systems are increasingly employed for radiological assessments. Since 2023, ChatGPT 4 has offered image analysis capabilities, which can also be used for the analysis of wrist radiographs. This study evaluates the diagnostic power of ChatGPT 4 in identifying distal radius fractures, comparing it with a board-certified radiologist, a hand surgery resident, a medical student, and the well-established AI Gleamer BoneView™. Results demonstrate ChatGPT 4's good diagnostic accuracy (sensitivity 0.88, specificity 0.98, diagnostic power (AUC) 0.93), surpassing the medical student (sensitivity 0.98, specificity 0.72, diagnostic power (AUC) 0.85; p = 0.04) significantly. Nevertheless, the diagnostic power of ChatGPT 4 lags behind the hand surgery resident (sensitivity 0.99, specificity 0.98, diagnostic power (AUC) 0.985; p = 0.014) and Gleamer BoneView™(sensitivity 1.00, specificity 0.98, diagnostic power (AUC) 0.99; p = 0.006). Background: The implications of delaying surgical intervention for patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) wishing to undergo vertebral body tethering (VBT) have not yet been explored. It is important to understand how these delays can impact surgical planning and patient outcomes. Methods: This was a retrospective review that analyzed all AIS patients treated between 2015 and 2021 at a single tertiary center. Time to surgery from initial surgical consultation and ultimate surgical plan were assessed. Patient characteristics, potential risk factors associated with increased curve progression, and reasons for delay were also analyzed. Results: 174 patients were evaluated and 95 were scheduled for VBT. Four patients later required a change to posterior spinal fusion (PSF) due to excessive curve progression. Patients requiring PSF were shown to have significantly longer delays than those who received VBT. Additionally, longer delays, younger age, greater curve progression, and lower skeletal maturity were correlated with significant curve progression (≥5 degrees). Conclusions: Surgical delays for AIS patients awaiting VBT may lead to significant curve progression and necessitate more invasive procedures. Patients with longer delays experienced an increased risk of needing PSF instead of VBT. Of those requiring PSF, the majority were due to insurance denials. Objectives: To examine radiologic outcomes at skeletal maturity of sonographically normal, immature, mildly, and severely dysplastic newborn hips. Methods: During 1988 to 1990, 11 925 newborns were enrolled in a randomized controlled trial examining screening strategies for developmental hip dysplasia. In total, 4469 were invited to clinical and radiologic follow-up 18 years later, of which 1735 had received neonatal ultrasound. Radiographic markers for dysplasia in left adult hips included the center-edge (CE) angle. Results: At follow-up, 984 of 1735 (56.7%) with newborn ultrasound met, of which 966 (614 females) had valid radiographs and were thus included. For females, 34 (10.2%) and 1 (0.3%) of the 332 sonographically normal left neonatal hips were judged borderline (20°≤ CE <25°) or dysplastic (CE <20°) at skeletal maturity respectively. Corresponding numbers were 36 (19.7%) and 3 (1.6%) of the 183 immature, 12 (15.6%) and 2 (2.6%) of the 77 mildly dysplastic, and 3 (13.6%) and 3 (13.6%) of the 22 severely dysplastic neonatal left hips (P ≤ .001). In males, no associations were found. In females, adult joint hypermobility was associated with sonographic neonatal hip instability (P = .046), as well as with adult acetabular dysplasia (P = .024). Conclusions: Significant associations between neonatal hip phenotypes and adult dysplasia were revealed in females. This indicates the possibility of different mechanisms affecting the course of developmental dysplasia of the hip for females and males, prompting consideration of prolonged clinical and radiologic follow-up for females with dysplastic neonatal hips. In children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who underwent adenotonsillectomy (AT), we measured body height and weight using standard deviation (SD) scores, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), and skeletal age using carpal radiography. We then compared these values before and after surgery with the aim of investigating postoperative improvements in growth hormone (GH) deficiency. Subjects comprised 35 children between 2 and 9 years of age (21 boys, 14 girls; mean age, 5.85 ± 1.75 years). Respiratory event index (REI), 3 % oxygen desaturation index (3 % ODI), height SD score, body mass index (BMI) percentile, blood IGF-1 level, and skeletal age from carpal radiographs were measured before surgery and both 3 and 12 months after surgery, and compared. Height SD score improved significantly from preoperatively (−0.44 ± 1.13) to both 3 months postoperatively (−0.22 ± 1.14) and 12 months postoperatively (−0.13 ± 0.94). However, no significant improvement in height SD score was seen from 3 months to 12 months after AT. BMI percentile improved significantly from preoperatively (35.6 ± 26.7) to both 3 months postoperatively (44.7 ± 26.5) and 12 months postoperatively (49.1 ± 22.15), with significant improvement also seen from 3 months to 12 months after AT. SD score for IGF-1 showed significant improvement from before (−0.57 ± 1.00) to 12 months after surgery (−0.12 ± 0.89). No significant improvement in the difference between skeletal and chronological ages was seen from before to after surgery, but the number of patients for whom skeletal age normalized from before to after surgery increased significantly (74.3 % vs. 94.3 %), and the number with advanced or delayed skeletal age decreased significantly (25.7 % vs. 5.7 %) Early improvements can be obtained with surgical treatment in children with OSA who have short height and poor weight gain due to GH deficiency. Background: Surgical correction of pectus excavatum (SCOPE) is dependent upon chest wall pliability with optimal timing prior to complete skeletal maturation. Measures of skeletal maturity are not readily available for operative planning; therefore, surgeons use age as proxy despite patient-specific rates of skeletal maturation. We aimed to determine whether preoperative skeletal maturity is associated with postoperative pain as surrogate for chest wall pliability. Methods: Children ≤18 years who underwent SCOPE from 2020 to 2022 were retrospectively identified. Preoperative CT within 3 months of procedure was reviewed by 2 radiologists and 1 surgeon. Skeletal maturity was determined by Schmeling-Kellinghaus classification which stages secondary epiphyseal ossification of the medial clavicle. Inter-rater reliability was evaluated. Schmeling-Kellinghaus stage and postoperative pain were compared. Results: Of twenty-eight records reviewed, 57% were Schmeling-Kellinghaus stage 1. High inter-rater reliability was identified (inter-radiologist: kappa =.95, P <.001, all raters: kappa =.78, P <.001). Median age at operation was 15.5 years (interquartile range: 14.8-16.0) and increased with skeletal maturity (P <.001). When comparing stage 1 (n = 16) to >1 (n = 12), stage 1 had lower maximum pain scores (P <.001), total morphine equivalents (P <.001), and benzodiazepine use (P <.001) after surgery. Conclusions: The Schmeling-Kellinghaus classification system is a valid proxy of skeletal maturity that can be applied with high inter-rater reliability. SCOPE during stage 1 was found to have less postoperative pain and narcotic use than more mature stages. This is proof of concept that skeletal maturity should be considered when determining optimal timing of surgical correction. Objectives: There are no established criteria for stiffness after fusionless surgery for neuromuscular scoliosis (NMS). As a result, there is no consensus regarding the surgical strategy to propose at long-term follow-up. This study reports the first use of shear wave elastography for assessing the mechanical response of lumbar intervertebral discs (IVDs) after fusionless bipolar fixation (FBF) for NMS and compares them with healthy controls. The aim was to acquire evidence from the stiffness of the spine following FBF. Patients and methods: Nineteen NMS operated on with FBF (18 ± 2y at last follow-up, 6 ± 1 y after surgery) were included prospectively. Preoperative Cobb was 89 ± 20° and 35 ± 1° at latest follow-up. All patients had reached skeletal maturity. Eighteen healthy patients (20 ± 4 y) were also included. Shear wave speed (SWS) was measured in the annulus fibrosus of L3L4, L4L5 and L5S1 IVDs and compared between the two groups. A measurement reliability was performed. Results: In healthy subjects, average SWS (all disc levels pooled) was 7.5 ± 2.6 m/s. In NMS patients, SWS was significantly higher at 9.9 ± 1.4 m/s (p < 0.05). Differences were significant between L3L4 (9.3 ± 1.8 m/s vs. 7.0 ± 2.5 m/s, p = 0.004) and L4L5 (10.3 ± 2.3 m/s vs. 7.1 ± 1.1 m/s, p = 0.0006). No difference was observed for L5S1 (p = 0.2). No correlation was found with age at surgery, Cobb angle correction and age at the SWE measurement. Conclusions: This study shows a significant increase in disc stiffness at the end of growth for NMS patients treated by FBF. Purpose: Greulich and Pyle is the most used system to estimate skeletal maturity but has significant drawbacks, prompting the development of newer skeletal maturity systems, such as the modified Fels skeletal maturity systems based on knee radiographs. To create a new skeletal maturity system, an outcome variable, termed a "skeletal maturity standard," must be selected for calibration of the system. Peak height velocity and 90% of final height are both considered reasonable skeletal maturity standards for skeletal maturity system development. We sought to answer two questions: (1) Does a skeletal maturity system developed using 90% of final height estimate skeletal age as well as it would if it was instead developed using peak height velocity? (2) Does a skeletal maturity system developed using 90% of final height perform as well in lower extremity length prediction as it would if it was instead developed using peak height velocity? Methods: The modified Fels knee skeletal maturity system was recalibrated based on 90% of final height and peak height velocity skeletal maturity standards. These models were applied to 133 serially obtained, peripubertal antero-posterior knee radiographs collected from 38 subjects. Each model was used to estimate the skeletal age of each radiograph. Skeletal age estimates were also used to predict each patient's ultimate femoral and tibial length using the White–Menelaus method. Results: The skeletal maturity system calibrated with 90% of final height produced more accurate skeletal age estimates than the same skeletal maturity system calibrated with peak height velocity (p < 0.05). The 90% of final height and peak height velocity models made similar femoral and tibial length predictions (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Using the 90% of final height skeletal maturity standard allows for simpler skeletal maturity system development than peak height velocity with potentially more accuracy. Purpose: Congenital femoral deficiency is characterized by limb length discrepancy and genu valgum. Lengthening of the femur along its anatomic axis increases valgus alignment by medial knee translation. Pairing limb lengthening with simultaneous medial distal femoral hemiepiphysiodesis can simultaneously correct two limb deformities. Methods: All skeletally immature patients with congenital femoral deficiency who underwent antegrade femoral lengthening and concomitant guided growth over a 4-year period were reviewed. Length and alignment data were quantified during lengthening, consolidation, and for 1 year after guided growth implants were removed or the patient reached skeletal maturity. Digital simulation was performed for all lengthenings to assess the mechanical alignment that would have been achieved had lengthening been performed without medial distal femoral hemiepiphysiodesis. Results: Nine patients (five males, four females, mean age = 12.3 ± 1.9 years) underwent 10 antegrade intramedullary femoral lengthenings with simultaneous medial distal femoral hemiepiphysiodesis. All had improvement in valgus alignment (average improvement in mechanical axis deviation was 18 ± 11 mm, average change in limb alignment was 6 ± 5°). In simulated lengthenings without guided growth, all limbs would have experienced increased lateral mechanical axis deviation of 5 ± 3 mm. The hemiepiphysiodesis implant and lengthening device were explanted simultaneously in 7 of 10 lengthenings. Conclusion: Simultaneous medial distal femoral hemiepiphysiodesis with antegrade femoral lengthening for ongenital femoral deficiency can minimize the number of surgical episodes for the skeletally immature patient. Purpose: This study aims to report the epidemiology of patellar sleeve injuries, describe diagnostic findings and treatment, and assess functional outcomes following different treatments. Methods: A medical database was queried from 1990 to 2016 to identify patients ≤18 years presenting to a single pediatric institution with a patellar sleeve injury. Patients with significant comorbidities or previously operatively treated for ipsilateral knee injuries were excluded. Standard demographic data, mechanism of injury, skeletal maturity, injury-related radiographic parameters, along with treatment paradigms, post-treatment clinical and radiographic findings, and patient-reported outcomes were collected. Results: A total of 90 patients, mean age of 10.7 years (range: 7–17) was included, of which 69 (77%) were male. Seventy-three percent of all injuries occurred while playing sports (particularly football/basketball/soccer), with "direct blow" or "landing" being the most prevalent mechanisms of injury. Twenty-six (29%) underwent operative treatment, with transosseous suture fixation being the most popular surgical technique (73%). Of the 64 (71%) non-operatively treated patients, 18 (39%) were placed in a hinged knee brace locked in extension with the remainder split between casting and standard knee immobilizer. Compared to the non-operative cohort, a higher percentage of the operative group had a pre-treatment extensor lag (p < 0.001) and greater fragment displacement (p < 0.001) with patella alta (p < 0.001) on imaging. There was no difference in outcome scores (Pedi-IKDC/Lysholm) or patella alta on radiographs between groups. Post-treatment surveys indicated no difference in residual pain or ability to return to sport. Conclusion: This large case series provides valuable epidemiologic, clinical, and radiographic data describing patellar sleeve fractures, along with outcomes following non-operative and operative treatments. Background: The Proximal Femur Maturity Index (PFMI) can be used to assess skeletal maturity on existing whole-spine radiographs without additional radiation. However, the relationship between the PFMI at the initiation of bracing for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and subsequent curve progression remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the PFMI and curve progression, and the predictability of risks to adulthood curve progression and surgical thresholds based on the PFMI grade at brace initiation. Methods: This was a prospective study of 202 patients with AIS who were prescribed underarm bracing according to the Scoliosis Research Society criteria and had good brace-wear compliance. The patients were followed from brace initiation until complete skeletal maturity. Longitudinal data on the coronal Cobb angle and skeletal maturity assessments using Risser staging, Sanders staging, the distal radius and ulna classification, and the PFMI were collected. Each patient was assessed on whether the major curve progressed to ≥40° (adulthood deterioration) and ≥50° (the surgical threshold). Logistic regressions were used to predict probabilities of curve progression to the 2 thresholds, adjusted for factors that were significant in univariate analyses. Results: The PFMI correlated with the other skeletal maturity indices (rs [Spearman rank correlation] = 0.60 to 0.72, p < 0.001 for all). The pre-brace PFMI grade correlated with progression to ≥40° (rrb [rank-biserial correlation] = −0.30, p < 0.001) and to ≥50° (rrb = −0.20, p = 0.005). Based on regression models (p < 0.001) adjusted for the pre-brace major Cobb angle and curve type, brace initiation at PFMI grades 2 and 3 for a curve of ≥30° had predicted risks of 30% (95% confidence interval [CI], 4% to 55%) and 12% (95% CI, 7% to 17%), respectively, for progression to the surgical threshold. Brace initiation at PFMI grade 5 had 0% progression risk. Conclusions: The PFMI can be used for predicting curve progression and prognosticating brace outcomes in AIS. Patients with brace initiation at PFMI grade 4 for a curve of <30° or at grade 5 were unlikely to progress to the adulthood deterioration or surgical threshold. In comparison, skeletally immature patients initiating bracing at a PFMI grade of ≤3 for a major curve of ≥30° had a higher risk of progression despite compliant brace wear. Background: The international scale and spread of evidence-based perioperative medicine for older people undergoing surgery (POPS) services has not yet been fully realised. Implementation science provides a structured approach to understanding factors that act as barriers and facilitators to the implementation of POPS services. In this study, we aimed to identify factors that influence the implementation of POPS services in the UK. Methods: A qualitative case study at three UK health services was undertaken. The health services differed across contextual factors (population, workforce, size) and stages of POPS service implementation maturity. Semi-structured interviews with purposively sampled clinicians (perioperative medical, nursing, allied health, and pharmacy) and managers (n = 56) were conducted. Data were inductively coded, then thematically analysed using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). Results: Fourteen factors across all five CFIR domains were relevant to the implementation of POPS services. Key shared facilitators included stakeholders understanding the rationale of the POPS service, with support from their networks, POPS champions, and POPS clinical leads. We found substantial variation and flexibility in the way that health services responded to these shared facilitators and this was relevant to the implementation of POPS services. Conclusions: Health services planning to implement a POPS service should use health service-specific strategies to respond flexibly to local factors that are acting as barriers or facilitators to implementation. To support implementation of a POPS service, we recommend health services prioritise understanding local networks, identifying POPS champions, and ensuring that stakeholders understand the rationale for the POPS service. Our study also provides a structure for future research to understand the factors associated with 'unsuccessful' implementation of a POPS service, which can inform ongoing efforts to implement evidence-based perioperative models of care for older people. BACKGROUND: Changes in bone trabeculae occur during skeletal maturation. Fractal analysis is a technique for assessing changes in the internal structure of the bone. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate correlation of bone trabeculation measured on panoramic and lateral cephalometric radiographs with cervical vertebral maturation stages (CVMS). METHODS: CVMS was evaluated on lateral cephalometric radiographs of 120 individuals aged 6 to 18 years. The subjects were divided into 6 groups (n = 20 each) according to CVMS. On panoramic and lateral cephalometric radiographs, fractal dimension (FD) analyses were performed in mandibular corpus, gonial and condylar regions and cervical vertebral bodies (C2, C3, C4). RESULTS: FD measurements from the mandibular corpus region bilaterally and C2–C4 vertebral bodies showed significant positive correlations with CVMS (r = 0.418, r = 0.412, r = 0.324, r = 0.304, r = 0.263, respectively). Significant differences were found in the FD values of the right/left mandibular corpus and C2 and C3 vertebrae compared to CVMS (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, P = 0.005, P = 0.019, respectively). CONCLUSION: Significant positive moderate correlations between the FD values of the right and left mandibular corpus and CVMS suggest that fractal analysis may be useful in determining skeletal maturity stage. The significant FD values obtained from the right/left mandibular corpus, and C2 and C3 vertebra indicate that the complexity of the internal trabecular structure increases with maturation. Background: Preoperative planning is generally performed to simulate the process of reduction as well as to determine the size and placement of implants in patients undergoing distal radius fracture surgery. We previously described a three-dimensional (3D) digital preoperative planning system for the osteosynthesis of distal radius fractures, and we have developed a novel intraoperative referencing system that superimposes preoperative planning (such as plate position and length) onto fluoroscopic images during surgery; however, its efficacy has not been evaluated compared with conventional planning and surgery. Questions/purposes: Does use of a novel intraoperative referencing system result in (1) better Mayo wrist scores at 3 and 6 months after surgery and (2) less loss of reduction in terms of ulnar variance, palmar tilt, and radial inclination on plain radiographs taken 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery compared with conventional preoperative planning? Methods: Between April 2014 and October 2021, we treated 294 patients with open reduction and volar plate fixation for distal radius fractures. Of 294 patients, 65% (191) underwent surgery using either conventional preoperative planning or a novel intraoperative referencing system. The remaining patients were excluded because they were younger than 18 years, they had some missing medical records related to the clinical outcomes, or they had a previous history of upper extremity injuries. During that time, we generally treated fractures with volar plates when there was: more than 2 mm of stepoff/gap in the articular surface, a dorsal tilt more than 15°, radial inclination less than 15°, or radial shortening more than 5 mm. Generally, we used a flexor carpi radialis approach. In some patients who had dorsal fragments, we added a dorsal approach. At that time, we were developing the new intraoperative referencing system, so it was not used consistently. To arrive at a fair assessment, we opted to perform propensity matching based on age, gender, and AO fracture type. During the period in question, 36% (69 of 191) of patients with distal radius fractures who received a volar plate were treated using our novel intraoperative referencing system, and 64% (122 of 191) had surgery using conventional preoperative planning (control group). Of those, 91% (63 of 69) of patients who were treated with the intraoperative referencing system and 89% (108 of 122) of those in the control group were available for follow-up with all imaging and Mayo wrist scores at least 6 months after surgery. After propensity matching, that left us with two groups of 39 patients, who were well matched in terms of age and fracture type; these were the study groups. We also tried to match them according to gender, but there were fewer patients in the intraoperative referencing group, and the percentage of women for each group differed: 70% (44 of 63) in the intraoperative referencing group and 76% (82 of 108) in the control group. Also, there were fewer men with C3 fractures in the control group. Therefore, 64% (25 of 39) of patients in the intraoperative referencing group were women and 77% (30 of 39) of patients in the control group were women. In the intraoperative referencing group, our novel intraoperative referencing system was used in combination with the 3D digital preoperative planning system for preoperative planning. In the control group, preoperative planning was performed manually in a conventional manner using tracing paper and implant templates or using a digital template. We compared the groups in terms of operative duration, the radiation dose used in surgery, and Mayo wrist scores at 3 and 6 months after surgery. We also compared the groups in terms of loss of reduction on ulnar variance, palmar tilt, and radial inclination on plain radiographs taken 3 months and 6 months after surgery. We considered the plain radiograph taken 1 week after surgery as a baseline. Each item was compared between the image fusion and control groups using a Welch t - test. Results: Mayo wrist scores were no different between the intraoperative referencing system and the control group at 3 months (71 ± 7 versus 72 ± 11, mean difference 1 [95% CI -3.7 to 5.7]; p = 0.07) or at 6 months after surgery (76 ± 6 versus 79 ± 11, mean difference 3 [95% CI -3.5 to 7.9]; p = 0.12). There were no differences in surgical duration or radiation doses between the intraoperative referencing and control groups. We found only a small advantage in favor of the intraoperative referencing system in terms of loss of reduction on ulnar variance (3 months after surgery: 0.2 ± 0.4 mm versus 0.6 ± 0.7 mm, mean difference 0.4 mm [95% CI 0.15 to 0.69]; p = 0.003, 6 months after surgery: 0.4 ± 0.6 mm versus 0.8 ± 0.8 mm, mean difference 0.4 mm [95% CI 0.05 to 0.73]; p = 0.02 for the intraoperative referencing system and the control group, respectively). This difference in radial shortening was so small that it was not likely to have been clinically important. Conclusion: We found no clinically important advantages from the use of our novel intraoperative referencing system except a slight improvement in ulnar variance. Therefore, we recommend against its use in everyday practice at this time. However, future improvements may lead to better clinical outcomes, so we plan further investigations. Forensic age assessments are crucial in the evaluation of criminal responsibility and preventing false age claims. Of all the methods available, the Greulich and Pyle (GP) atlas is most commonly used for age estimation purposes. Therefore, the current study sought to analyze the reliability and applicability of the GP standard and, additionally, to determine any possible association between the socioeconomic status (SES), food habits, and estimated skeletal maturity in the North Indian population. The study included 627 (334 males and 293 females) healthy children up to 19 years of age with varying SES and food habits. The skeletal age (SA) was estimated by three different evaluators using the GP atlas. The chronological mean age (CA) and SA were compared in different age cohorts. A paired t-test and a Pearson chi-square test were applied to show the difference between CA and estimated SA and the association of skeletal maturity with SES and food habits. The estimated skeletal age in males was retarded by 0.142 years or 1.72 months (p ≤ 0.05), whereas in females, it was retarded by 0.259 years or 3.12 months (p ≤ 0.05). In males, the GP method has significantly underestimated SA in age cohorts 3–4, 4–5, 6–7, 7–8, 8–9, and 12–13, whereas it overestimated in 10–11 and 18–19 years. However, in females, the SA was significantly underestimated in age groups 10–11, 12–13, and 14–15, respectively. Estimated skeletal maturity had no significant association with SES and food habits. The current study concludes that the GP atlas may not be applicable to North India's population. The observed difference in assessed skeletal maturity may be due to geographical region, genetics, hormonal effects, etc., which require further investigation. Purpose: This study conducts a comprehensive comparative analysis of bone pathologies between ancient Egypt and today. We aim to elucidate the prevalence, types, and potential aetiological factors influencing skeletal disorders in these two distinct temporal and cultural contexts. Methods: The research employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating osteological, paleopathological, and historical data to understand bone pathologies in mummies and the actual world. Applying radiographs and CT scans as noninvasive techniques has shed new light on past diseases such as fractures, dysplasia, osteoarthritis, surgery, and tuberculosis. Virtual inspection has almost replaced classical autopsy and is essential, especially when dealing with museum specimens. Results: Findings indicate no significant disparities in the prevalence and types of bone pathologies through 4300 years of evolution. Moreover, this study sheds light on the impact of sociocultural factors on bone health. Examination of ancient Egypt's burial practices and associated cultural beliefs provides insights into potential behavioral and ritualistic influences on bone pathologies and the prevalence of specific pathologies in the past and present. Objective: The main objective of this study was to understand the role of skeletal maturity in the different patterns of osteochondral and ligamentous injuries after an acute lateral patellar dislocation. Materials and methods: Two radiologists independently reviewed MRIs of 212 knees performed after an acute lateral patellar dislocation to evaluate the presence of high-grade patellar osteochondral injury, femoral osteochondral injury, and medial patellofemoral ligament injury. The association of skeletal maturity (indicated by a closed distal femoral physis), age, sex, and first-time versus recurrent dislocation with each of these various lesions was analyzed using Chi-square or T test, and multivariable logistic regression with estimation of odds ratios (OR). Results: Skeletal maturity was significantly associated with high-grade patellar osteochondral injury [OR=2.72 (95% CI 1.00, 7.36); p=0.049] and femoral-side MPFL tear [OR=2.34 (95% CI 1.05, 5.25); p=0.039]. Skeletal immaturity was significantly associated with patellar-side MPFL tear [OR=0.35 (95% CI 0.14, 0.90); p=0.029]. Conclusion: Patterns of injury to the patella and medial patellofemoral ligament vary notably between the skeletally immature and mature, and these variations may be explained by the inherent weakness of the patellar secondary physis. Background: There is a higher rate of failure of isolated MPFL reconstruction in skeletally immature patients with patellar instability compared to skeletally mature patients. Genu valgum is a known risk factor for patellar instability. There is potential for concomitant surgical correction of genu valgum to achieve better clinical outcomes and to decrease failure rates of MPFL reconstruction. Purpose: To evaluate outcomes of combined medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction and implant-mediated guided growth (IMGG) in skeletally immature patients with patellar instability and genu valgum. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: In a multicenter study, all skeletally immature patients with recurrent patellar instability and genu valgum who underwent MPFL reconstruction using hamstring graft and IMGG using a transphyseal screw or tension band plate for the distal femur and/or proximal tibia were included. The knee valgus angle and mechanical axis were measured on full-length radiographs and anatomic risk factors were measured on MRI. Patients were followed until correction of their lower limb alignment and implant removal or until skeletal maturity. Clinical outcomes, including complications, were analyzed. Results: A total of 31 patients (37 knees) were included in the study. The mean age and skeletal age of the cohort were 12.4 and 12.9 years, respectively. Simultaneous MPFL reconstruction and IMGG were performed in 26 of 37 knees; 11 underwent staged procedures. Twenty knees had transphyseal screws and 17 knees had tension band plates for IMGG. The knee valgus corrected from a mean of 12.4° to 5.1° in 12.1 months. Implants were removed from 22 of 37 knees once genu valgum was corrected. There was no significant difference (P =.65) in the correction rate between plates (0.7 deg/month) and screws (0.6 deg/month). Ten complications occurred in 4 patients (7 knees) and included 5 patellar redislocations, 2 rebound valgus, 1 varus overcorrection, 1 knee arthrofibrosis, and 1 implant loosening. For children <10 years of age, 3 of 6 (50%) knees had patellar redislocations and 5 of 6 knees had a complication. This was statistically significant (P =.003) compared with patients >10 years of age. Similarly, for patients with bilateral knee involvement, 5 of 12 (42%) knees had patellar redislocations and a total of 8 complications occurred in this subset. This was statistically significant (P <.001) compared with patients with unilateral involvement. Conclusion: IMGG with plates or screws in the setting of combined MPFL reconstruction improves genu valgum. The contributions of height, weight and skeletal age (SA) to strength and motor performances of male soccer players 9–12 (n = 60) and 13–16 (n = 52) years were estimated. SA was assessed with the Fels method, and was expressed as the standardized residual of the regression of SA on chronological age CA (SAsr). Static strength (right + left grip), speed (5 m, 20 m sprints), acceleration (10 to 20 m), agility (figure-of-eight run), explosive strength (vertical jump) and endurance (yo–yo intermittent shuttle run, 13–16 years only) were measured. Hierarchical multiple regression was used. The interaction of SAsr with body size (height and height x weight interaction) explained most of the variance in strength in both age groups, 9–12 years (51.6%) and 13–16 years (56.7%), and in speed (31.4%, 38.7%), acceleration (39.6%), and explosive strength (32.6%) among players 13–16 years. In contrast, SAsr alone explained limited amounts of variance in strength, speed, acceleration and vertical jump among players 9–12 years (1.4–4.5%) and 13–16 years (0–0.5%). Results for agility varied with CA group, while SAsr per se was the primary contributor to endurance among players 13–16 years (18.5% of the variance). Although the influence of body size and skeletal maturity status on performances was significant, the explained variance differed among tasks and between CA groups, and suggested a role for other factors affecting performances of the soccer players. Background: Congenital early-onset scoliosis (CEOS) is characterized by a spectrum of vertebral anomalies, including formation failures and segmentation failures at the apex segment, which makes CEOS different from other etiologies of earlyonset scoliosis. To date, studies on patients who have graduated from CEOS treatment using traditional dual growing rods (TDGR) have been scarce, and the preliminary results of TDGR with or without the apical control technique (ACT) have varied. We therefore compared the final outcomes of patients with CEOS who graduated from TDGR with or without the ACT. Methods: A retrospective study of patients with CEOS who had graduated from TDGR treatment performed from 2007 to 2020 was conducted. Graduation included final fusion or observation after reaching skeletal maturity. Patients were divided into the ACT-TDGR group (apical vertebrectomy and/or hemivertebrectomy with short fusion and TDGR) and the TDGR-only group. Demographic characteristics, radiographic data, patient-reported clinical outcomes, pulmonary function, and complications were analyzed. Results: A total of 41 patients with CEOS were enrolled: 13 in the ACT-TDGR group and 28 in the TDGR-only group. The lengthening intervals were longer in the ACT-TDGR group (mean [and standard deviation], 1.26 ± 0.66 years) than in the TDGR-only group (0.80 ± 0.27 years). The preoperative main curve was larger in the ACT-TDGR group (80.53° ± 19.50°) than in the TDGR-only group (64.11° ± 17.50°). The residual curve was comparable between groups (26.31° ± 12.82° in the ACT-TDGR group compared with 27.76° ± 15.0° in the TDGR group) at the latest follow-up. The changes in apical vertebral rotation and thoracic rotation were significantly larger in the ACT-TDGR group. Patients had comparable T1-12 and T1-S1 heights, pulmonary function, and 22-item Scoliosis Research Society (SRS-22) scores at the latest follow-up. The mean number of mechanical-related complications per patient was lower in the ACT-TDGR group (0.77 ± 0.73) than in the TDGR-only group (1.54 ± 1.43). Seventeen patients underwent final fusion. Conclusions: In this small-scale study, we observed that both ACT-TDGR and TDGR-only could correct the deformity while allowing for spinal growth in patients with CEOS. ACT-TDGR yielded better correction in severe cases and did not have a deleterious effect on spinal height. A large number of cases will be needed to validate the clinical value of the ACT. Mesozoic fossils of frogs are rare in the palaeontological record, particularly those exhibiting soft tissues that offer limited insights into early life-history characteristics. Here we report on a skeletally immature frog from the Lower Cretaceous of northwest China, with egg masses in the body and eggs in the oviduct, indicative of a gravid female. CT reconstruction of the specimen allows referral to Gansubatrachus qilianensis and we assign it as a paratype complementing the diagnosis of the type species. The new fossil, which might represent a younger individual than the holotype of Gansubatrachus, shows that sexual maturation occurred before full adulthood in this frog and provides evidence of death linked to mating behaviour. We also discuss other potential sources of variation and life-history traits of Gansubatrachus. The new finding represents the oldest Early Cretaceous frog preserving in situ eggs and provides a glimpse into ancient anuran development during Mesozoic times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Predictive analytics is gaining popularity as an aid to treatment planning for patients with bone metastases, whose expected survival should be considered. Decreased psoas muscle area (PMA), a morphometric indicator of suboptimal nutritional status, has been associated with mortality in various cancers, but never been integrated into current survival prediction algorithms (SPA) for patients with skeletal metastases. This study investigates whether decreased PMA predicts worse survival in patients with extremity metastases and whether incorporating PMA into three modern SPAs (PATHFx, SORG‐NG, and SORG‐MLA) improves their performance. Methods: One hundred eighty‐five patients surgically treated for long‐bone metastases between 2014 and 2019 were divided into three PMA tertiles (small, medium, and large) based on their psoas size on CT. Kaplan–Meier, multivariable regression, and Cox proportional hazards analyses were employed to compare survival between tertiles and examine factors associated with mortality. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess whether incorporating adjusted PMA values enhanced the three SPAs' discriminatory abilities. The clinical utility of incorporating PMA into these SPAs was evaluated by decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: Patients with small PMA had worse 90‐day and 1‐year survival after surgery (log‐rank test p < 0.001). Patients in the large PMA group had a higher chance of surviving 90 days (odds ratio, OR, 3.72, p = 0.02) and 1 year than those in the small PMA group (OR 3.28, p = 0.004). All three SPAs had increased AUC after incorporation of adjusted PMA. DCA indicated increased net benefits at threshold probabilities >0.5 after the addition of adjusted PMA to these SPAs. Conclusions: Decreased PMA on CT is associated with worse survival in surgically treated patients with extremity metastases, even after controlling for three contemporary SPAs. The surgery first approach (SFA) and clear aligners technique can address traditional treatment defects, such as prolonged waiting times for surgery and a less desirable facial appearance due to wire aligners. However, the curative effect of the combination remains uncertain. The randomized controlled study aimed to evaluate the skeletal stability of the SFA compared to the conventional orthodontic first approach (OFA), both of which were applied with clear aligners. A total of 74 participants were randomly allocated to two groups: the SFA group (experimental) and the OFA group (control). The skeletal deviation was calculated using reconstruction models from computed tomography scans taken immediately and 6 months after surgery. The largest median deviations were detected in the y-axis of the mandible for both two groups, separately 1.36 mm in the experimental group and 1.19 mm in the control group. Apart from the maxillary yaw dimension (p = 0.005), there were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of linear and angular deviation. The experimental group had an overall treatment time of 18.05 ± 2.53 months, while the control group took 22.83 ± 3.60 months (p < 0.05). Introduction: Bracing is one of the first-line treatment for early-onset idiopathic scoliosis (EOIS) to control curves from progression. This study aimed to explore the determinants that govern bracing effectiveness in EOIS. Methods: One hundred and eleven patients with EOIS (mean age of 8.6 ± 1.25 at diagnosis) received bracing treatment and had a final follow-up beyond skeletal maturity were identified from records between 1988 and 2021. Demographic data and clinical features of spinal curvature were obtained for correlation analyses to determine the associations between curve outcomes and clinical features. Results: Most patients were female (85.6%) and had a major curve on the left side (67%). The mean baseline Cobb angle of major curves was 21.73 ± 7.92°, with a mean Cobb angle progression of 18.05 ± 19.11°. The average bracing duration was 5.3 ± 1.9 years. Only 26 (23.4%) of them underwent surgery. The final Cobb angle and curve progression at the final follow-up with a Cobb angle of ≥50° were positively correlated with the initial Cobb angle (r = 0.206 and r = 0.313, respectively) and negatively correlated with maturity parameters. The lumbar curve type was found to correlate with a smaller final Cobb angle. Conclusions: The majority of patients had a final Cobb angle < 50°, which was considered a successful bracing outcome. Purpose: Awake craniotomy (AC) is the treatment of choice for the resection of brain tumors within eloquent brain regions for adults, but not much is known about its psychological impact on children and adolescents. Patient immaturity and difficulty in cooperating during surgery could result in psychological sequelae postoperatively, such as anxiety, panic, and worry. Methods: In this review, we examined eight studies assessing AC performed on patients under 18 years of age (N = 85), noting exclusion criteria, interventions used, and psychological assessments implemented. Results: Initial assessments of cognitive functioning and maturity were conducted primarily to determine patient eligibility for AC instead of an age restriction. No standardized interventions were used to minimize anxiety associated with AC. Interventions ranged from almost nothing specified to exposure to videos of the operating room, hypnosis, repeated meetings with psychologists and speech therapists, extensive meetings with the surgery team, and thorough exposure to the operating room theater. With a few exceptions, there were no standardized pre- and post-AC assessments of psychological sequelae. Qualitative evaluations indicated that most children and adolescents tolerated AC well, but one study indicated detrimental effects on school attendance postoperatively. Conclusion: Given that most AC teams have a psychologist, it seems desirable to have pre- and post-AC psychological assessments using standardized measures of anxiety, trauma, and worry, as well as measures tailored to AC, such as time to return to school, worry about MRIs following surgery, and self-assessment of post-surgery functioning. Study Design. Prospectivemulticenter study data were used formodel derivation and externally validated using retrospective cohort data. Objective. Derive and validate a prognostic model of benefit from bracing for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Summary of Background Data. The Bracing in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Trial (BrAIST) demonstrated the superiority of bracing over observation to prevent curve progression to the surgical threshold; 42% of untreated subjects had a good outcome, and 28% progressed to the surgical threshold despite bracing, likely due to poor adherence. To avoid over-treatment and to promote patient goal setting and adherence, bracing decisions (who and how much) should be based on physician and patient discussions informed by individual-level data from high-quality predictive models. Materials and Methods. Logistic regression was used to predict curve progression to <45° at skeletal maturity (good prognosis) in 269 BrAIST subjects who were observed or braced. Predictors included age, sex, body mass index, Risser stage, Cobb angle, curve pattern, and treatment characteristics (hours of brace wear and inbrace correction). Internal and external validity were evaluated using jackknifed samples of the BrAIST data set and an independent cohort (n=299) through estimates of discrimination and calibration. Results. The final model included age, sex, body mass index, Risser stage, Cobb angle, and hours of brace wear per day. The model demonstrated strong discrimination (c-statistics 0.83--0.87) and calibration in all data sets. Classifying patients as low risk (high probability of a good prognosis) at the probability cut point of 70% resulted in a specificity of 92% and a positive predictive value of 89%. Conclusion. This externally validated model can be used by clinicians and families to make informed, individualized decisions about when and how much to brace to avoid progression to surgery. Background: The diagnosis of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis requires clinical and radiographic evaluation; the management options vary depending on the severity of the curve and potential for progression. Identifying predictors of scoliosis progression is crucial to avoid incorrect management; clinical and radiographic factors have been studied as potential predictors. The present study aims to review the literature on radiological indexes for the peak height velocity or curve acceleration phase to help clinicians manage treatment of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Methods: This systematic review was carried out in accordance with Preferential Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The search was carried out including only peer-reviewed articles written in English that described the radiological indexes assessing skeletal maturity in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and evaluated their correlation with curve progression, expressed as peak height velocity and/or curve acceleartion phase. Results: Thirteen studies were included and showed promising results in terms of reliable radiological indexes. Risser staging gives a general measure of skeletal maturity, but it cannot be used as a primary index for driving the treatment of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis since more reliable indexes are available. Conclusion: Skeletal maturity quantification for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis has the potential to significantly modify disease management. However, idiopathic scoliosis is a complex and multifactorial disease: therefore, it is unlikely that a single index will ever be sufficient to predict its evolution. Therefore, as more adolescent idiopathic scoliosis progression-associated indexes are identified, a collective scientific effort should be made to develop a therapeutic strategy based on reliable and reproducible algorithms. Purpose: To compare the Boston brace and European braces using a standardised Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) inclusion criteria for brace treatment as well as consensus recommendations for treatment outcome. Methods: This was a systematic review that was carried out using MeSH terminology in our search protocol in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Clinicaltrials.gov and Web of Science database between 1976 and 29th of Jan 2023. All studies that were included in this review had applied fully/partially the SRS inclusion criteria for brace wear. Outcome measures were divided into primary and secondary outcome measures. Results: 3830 literatures were found in which 176 literatures were deemed relevant to the study once duplicates were removed and titles and abstracts were screened. Of these literatures, only 15 had fulfilled the eligibility criteria and were included in the study. 8 of the studies were Level IV studies, 5 were Level III studies and 2 studies were Level I studies (1 prospective randomised controlled trial (RCT) and 1 Quasi-RCT). The percentage of patients who avoided surgery for European braces ranged from 88 to 100%, whereas for Boston brace ranged from 70 to 94%. When treatment success was assessed based on the final Cobb angle > 45°, approximately 15% of patients treated with European braces had treatment failure. In contrast, 20–63% of patients treated with Boston brace had curves > 45° at skeletal maturity. The BrAIST study used a cut-off point of 50° to define failure of treatment and the rate of treatment failure was 28%. Curve correction was not achieved in most patients (24–51% of patients) who were treated with the Chêneau brace and its derivatives. However, none of the patients treated with Boston brace achieved curve correction. Conclusion: Boston brace and European braces were effective in the prevention of surgery. In addition, curve stabilisation was achieved in most studies. Limitation in current literature included lack of studies providing high level of evidence and lack of standardisation in terms of compliance to brace as well as multidisciplinary management of brace wear. Purpose: The treatment of operative double major pediatric spinal deformities (e.g., Lenke 3 or 6) with bilateral vertebral body tethering (VBT) can be significantly more challenging when compared to other deformity patterns (e.g., Lenke 1) or treatment with a posterior spinal fusion. We aimed to identify preoperative and perioperative characteristics that were associated with successful postoperative outcomes in patients treated with both a thoracic and thoracolumbar (e.g., bilateral) tether. Methods: We retrospectively assessed radiographic and clinical data from patients enrolled in a large multi-center study who had a minimum postoperative follow-up of two years. Standard radiographic parameters were extracted from standing spine and left hand-wrist radiographs at various timepoints. We classified patients based on their preoperative deformity pattern (Primary Thoracic [TP] vs. Primary Thoracolumbar [TLP]) and assessed: (1) deformity balance, (2) tilt of the transitional vertebra, and (3) postoperative success. Results: We analyzed data from thirty-six patients (TP: 19 and TLP: 17). We observed no relationship between deformity balance at first erect and postoperative success (p = 0.354). Patients with a horizontal transitional vertebra at first erect were significantly (p = 0.001) more likely to exhibit a successful outcome when compared to those who exhibited a tilted transitional vertebra (83% vs. 62%). Patients who had TLP were also more likely to exhibit a successful outcome when compared to patients who exhibited TP (76% vs. 50%). Objectives: This study aimed to determine the risk factors associated with the failure of arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) maturation. Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted from January 2014 to December 2018 in Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat, Oman. Patients were followed-up 3 months after surgery, and their electronic medical records were accessed for demographic and clinical data. Univariate analysis was used to determine the risk factors associated with early AVF maturation and multivariant analysis was used to determine the predictive factors for AVF failure. Results: A total of 269 patients were included. Female gender was a significant factor affecting AVF maturity (P = 0.049), while age (P = 0.626), diabetes (P = 0.954), hypertension (P = 0.378), dyslipidaemia (P = 0.907), coronary artery disease (P = 0.576), cerebrovascular accident (P = 0.864), congestive heart failure (P = 0.685), previous central venous catheterisation (P = 0.05), fistula type (P = 0.863) and fistula site (P = 0.861) did not affect AVF maturation. Binary logistic regression showed that all the risk factors were insignificant. Failure of early AVF maturation affected 11.5% in the cohort. Conclusion: This study found that the proportion of early AVF maturation at our hospital is at par with that in the international literature. Failure of AVF maturation was significantly associated with the female gender. These findings can help nephrologists and vascular surgeons prognosticate AVF maturation rates. Squamous cell carcinomas of the nasal vestibule are an extremely rare neoplastic disease. Although brachytherapy is gaining popularity for primary treatment, surgery remains the best option in case of recurrences. The aim of this paper is to outline our treatment experience of local recurrence of SCCNVs over the past 22 years. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of the patients who underwent surgical treatment for local recurrence of SCCNV: data regarding age, sex, primary tumor treatment, recurrence location and time of appearance, surgical resection, type of reconstruction, postoperative complication, surgical revision, and re-recurrence rate were analyzed. Twenty patients were included in the study. The median period for recurrence appearance was 17 months, and the prevalent location of recurrence was the nasal alae. Prevalent reconstructive procedures were the nasolabial flap and paramedian forehead flap. No postoperative complications were observed, and one case of re-recurrence was detected at 12-months of follow-up. Based on our experience, salvage surgical procedures for SCCNV recurrences must be individualized and carefully planned, taking into account the peculiar pattern of tumor spread and the presence of scar and heavily radiotherapy damaged tissue from previous treatment; delayed reconstruction should be considered for all the cases with skeletal involvement. Background: Elbow pain is common among youth baseball players and elbow MRI is increasingly utilized to complement the clinical assessment. Objective: To characterize, according to skeletal maturity, findings on elbow MRI from symptomatic youth baseball players. Materials and methods: This IRB-approved, HIPAA-compliant retrospective study included pediatric (<18 years of age) baseball players with elbow pain who underwent MRI examinations between 2010 and 2021. Two radiologists, blinded to the outcome, independently reviewed examinations to categorize skeletal maturity and to identify osseous and soft tissue findings with consensus used to resolve discrepancies. Findings were compared between skeletally immature and mature patients and logistic regression models identified predictors of surgery. Results: This study included 130 children (115 boys, 15 girls): 85 skeletally immature and 45 mature (12.8±2.3 and 16.2±1.0 years, respectively, p<0.01). Kappa coefficient for interobserver agreement on MRI findings ranged from 0.64 to 0.96. Skeletally immature children, when compared to mature children, were more likely to have elbow effusion (27%, 23/85 vs 9%, 4/45; p=0.03), medial epicondyle marrow edema (53%, 45/85 vs 16%, 7/45; p<0.01), avulsion fracture (19%, 16/85 vs 2%, 1/45; p=0.02), and juvenile osteochondritis dissecans (OCD, 22%, 19/85 vs 7%, 3/45; p=0.04), whereas skeletally mature children were more likely to have sublime tubercle marrow edema (49%, 22/45 vs 11%, 9/85; p<0.01) and triceps tendinosis (40%, 18/45 vs 20%, 17/85; p=0.03). Intra-articular body (OR=4.2, 95% CI 1.5–47.8, p=0.02) and osteochondritis dissecans (OR=3.7, 95% CI 1.1–11.9, p=0.03) were independent predictors for surgery. Conclusion: Differential patterns of elbow MRI findings were observed among symptomatic pediatric baseball players based on regional skeletal maturity. Background: Evaluation of skeletal maturation plays a substantial role in selection of orthodontic treatment strategies. Recently, new noninvasive methods of assessing biological mediators have been introduced to assess skeletal maturity. There is a marked rise in the value of these mediators during pubertal growth spurts. When these mediators emerge as the assessment tool for skeletal maturity determination, it can reduce radiation exposure and beneficial to the patient. Hence, the goal of this study is to validate the calculation of salivary alkaline phosphatase (ALP) as a noninvasive skeletal maturity indicator by estimating the Bone Alkaline Phosphatase (B‑ALP) level in whole unstimulated saliva at different stages of skeletal maturity and correlating B‑ALP level with different stages of skeletal development using cervical vertebral maturation index (CVMI) and hand‑wrist MP3 (third finger middle phalanx). Materials and Methods: The test group included 90 subjects aged between 8 and 18 years requiring orthodontic treatment. The salivary samples were collected and examined by ALP kit following the manufacturer’s instructions and assessed using photo‑spectrometer at 405 nm. The skeletal age was assessed using handwrist radiographs; skeletal age was determined by modified MP3 staging. Lateral cephalograms of each individual were also collected and tracing done for assessing skeletal age with CVM staging. The collected data were analyzed statistically with analysis of variance for intergroup comparison of ALP levels and Kruskal–Wallis test for intergroup comparison of CVM and MP3 stages. Results and Conclusion: Salivary ALP activity during the peak pubertal period was markedly increased when compared to pre‑ and post‑peak values. Salivary ALP activity was in correlation with the cervical vertebral maturation and MP3 stages showing peak values at the pubertal stages. To date, 25 species of non-mammalian cynodonts have been histologically sampled, but few record a definitive and well-developed external fundamental system (EFS) indicative of skeletal maturity. Here, I report an EFS in the femoral histology of Scalenodon angustifrons and discuss the factors that could explain why skeletally mature tissue is rarely documented in cynodont osteohistology. My sample includes two equivalently sized individuals that document marked histological variation, as only one shows evidence of slowing growth rate and an EFS. Variation in the bone histology between femora of the same size suggests that attainment of skeletal maturity does not follow a discrete developmental pattern for S. angustifrons, a pattern that is also seen in the bone histology of other traversodontids and some non-gomphodontian cynodonts. From these results, a flexible growth strategy is inferred for S. angustifrons. To contextualize the validity of this pattern among other cynodont species, I summarize the sampling coverage of cynodonts that have been thin-sectioned and report limited coverage across size classes/ inferred development stages. This is often a result of sampling one isolated element that is not standardized to one skeletal element, which contributes to a poorly constrained comparative sample (in terms of size coverage, spatial and temporal resolution, and taxonomic coverage). Despite this, many cynodont species show shifts towards slow growth, but very few instances of unequivocal evidence of skeletal maturity. This result underscores the need for standardized iterative histological sampling to assess longevity, life history, and developmental patterns of non-mammalian cynodonts more accurately. Aim: To compare the dental mineralization stages using Orthopantamogram (OPG) and skeletal maturation stages using Hand wrist radiographs during the pubertal growth period. Material and Methods: The present study was conducted on 60 males and 60 females in Department of Orthodontics, Jaipur Dental College, Jaipur (Rajasthan) India. A total of 120 dental panoramic radiographs and hand-wrist radiographs were obtained and analyzed. The skeletal maturation was assessed using Hand wrist radiograph using the method proposed by Grave and Brown method. Dental maturation stages were analysed from Orthopantamogram (OPG) using the method proposed by Demirjian et al. Results: The results showed differences between the sexes of the sample (P <0.05) and between the skeletal maturation periods. In males, mandibular canine and mandibular second molar were statistically significant (P<0.05) with higher correlation observed in relation to Stage F for onset of pubertal growth, Stage G coincided for peak of the pubertal growth period, Stage H coincided for end of the pubertal growth period In females, mandibular canine and mandibular first premolar were statistically significant (p<0.05)and higher correlation was observed in relation to stage F for the onset of pubertal growth period, Stage G coincided with the peak of the pubertal growth period, Stage H coincided with the end of the pubertal growth period. Conclusion: There is a correlation between dental maturation and Skeletal maturation stages in determining the pubertal growth period. Dental mineralization stages studied from Orthopantamogram(OPG) can be used as a routine diagnostic tool to determine the skeletal maturation of the individual. On comparison of chronological age the females preceded males in all three stages of skeletal maturation by approximately 1.6 years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
