The genus Ulva Linnaeus 1753 is well known for its global distribution and containing many taxonomically debated species. Their morphological plasticity and cryptic nature overrepresent and underrepresent, respectively, the biodiversity of these species. The difficulty in morphologically identifying Ulva species has led to the accumulation of many species names that are currently considered synonyms. The correct identification of these species is crucial due to their significant role in marine ecosystems and mariculture. In the last 30 years, several checklists and taxonomic contributions have been made from the Italian coast on Ulva species, almost entirely based on morphological studies and only a few papers with molecular data have been published. In this study, samples deposited at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ISMAR) and Phycological Lab (PHL) herbaria have been reviewed by sequencing the chloroplast-encoded elongation factor Tu (tufA) barcode marker. The results obtained provide an update of the DNA barcode inventory of Ulva species for the Lagoon of Venice and the Strait of Messina, two ecosystems characterized by a high algal biogeographical diversity and continuous introduction due to anthropogenic activities. Algae are photosynthetic organisms which can be cultivated and produced in photo-bioreactors; therefore, choosing the design parameters and conditions are critical in order to achieve high efficiency and maximum productivity. Algae are of interest to biochemical industries because of their diverse species. This project seeks to build a photo-bioreactor tank to maximize Ulva lactuca non-seasonal survival to produce biodiesel from its biomass. The chosen design was because of the ease of monitoring, and the tank design effectively kept Ulva lactuca alive and fresh. Biodiesel was accomplished using an alkaline esterification for 50 g of dry mass of Ulva lactuca giving a relatively limited yield of approximate 13% of Ulva lactuca oil (4 ml) that was converted to (0.5 ml) biodiesel, compared with other oils such as soybean (42%), corn oil (60%) and cooked corn oil (40%). The yield of Ulva lactuca oil was statistically significantly lower than the other three types of oil (p-value = 0.0032). However, this project still aids in the economics of Jordan, as Ulva lactuca is grown locally in the Gulf of Aqaba. Simple Summary: Cervical cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among women. However, the clinically well-accepted cervical HPV 16/18 test was not sufficient to screen patients with high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 2+). The purpose of this study was to investigate the infection features of 15 high-risk (HR) HPVs in cervix, vagina, vulva, and anus, and evaluate their potential association with cervical lesions. In this study, HPV genotyping was performed on samples from the four anogenital sites of 499 Chinese women. Results showed that in addition to the well-recognized cervical-cancer-associated subtypes, e.g., HPV 16, 52, and 58, HPV 51, 53, and 56 had high prevalence and site-related infection consistency among the anogenital sites studied. In addition to cervical HPV 16/18, cervical HPV 33/35/52/53/56/58 were suggested as potential indicators that could improve the accuracy of HR-HPV screening in predicting CIN 2+. Background: Both cervical cancer and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) are associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection at different anogenital sites, but the infection features of high-risk (HR) HPVs at these sites and their association with cervical lesions have not been well characterized. Given the limitation of cervical HPV 16/18 test in screening patients with high-grade CIN (CIN 2+), studies on whether non-16/18 HR-HPV subtype(s) have potential as additional indicator(s) to improve CIN 2+ screening are needed. Methods: The infection of 15 HR-HPVs in vulva, anus, vagina, and cervix of 499 Chinese women was analyzed, and CIN lesion-associated HR-HPV subtypes were revealed. Results: In addition to the well-known cervical-cancer-associated HPV 16, 52, and 58, HPV 51, 53, and 56 were also identified as high-frequency detected subtypes prevalently and consistently present at the anogenital sites studied, preferentially in multi-infection patterns. HPV 16, 52, 58, 56, and 53 were the top five prevalent subtypes in patients with CIN 2+. In addition, we found that cervical HPV 33/35/52/53/56/58 co-testing with HPV 16/18 might improve CIN 2+ screening performance. Simple Summary: Vulvar lymphomas are uncommon diseases and account for less than 0.5% of gynecological cancers and 1.5% of all NHLs. The various types of lymphomas have recently been identified as separate diseases and not as morphological variations of the same disease, according to the World Health Organization classification. They often represent the secondary localization of systemic disease, and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common type. We also considered cases of vulvar T-cell lymphomas. The data analysis highlighted the difficulty of diagnosis and the need to resort to biopsy–histological examination, as well as molecular methods. The correctness of the diagnosis directly affects appropriate therapeutic management, which requires an adequate surgical approach that can be integrated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Since they are very rare tumors, lymphomas of the vulva are often not properly recognized. Patients with vulvar lymphoma are generally elderly and the classical manifestation of the disease is a vulvar mass. No significant age differences have been found between primary and secondary lymphoma. To make a correct diagnosis, it is therefore necessary to use not only histological examination but also the genetic and molecular profile in order to establish optimal therapeutic management. This study was conducted to determine whether the macroalgae Ulva papenfussi and Ulva nematoidea could be alternatives for preventing Litopenaeus vannamei vibriosis caused by the bacterium Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Phytochemical screening was performed on methanolic extracts to qualitatively determine the main groups of bioactive compounds, previous to an in vitro antibacterial test against V. parahaemolitycus. Phenols, polyphenols, flavonoids, and the high presence of carbohydrates were found in both macroalgae. U. papenfussi showed more presence of lipids and alkaloids than U. nematoidea. Macroalgae extracts prepared (v:v) with a 1:1 methanol: dichloromethane solvent was used for the in vitro test using the disc diffusion method (MDD). Filter paper discs impregnated with 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 mg of the extracts showed antibacterial activity against V. Parahaemolitycus in a dose-dependent manner in both macroalgae. The inhibition zone varied significantly (p < 0.05) from 8.33 ± 0.12 to 11.41 ± 0.73 mm for 1 to 3 mg of extract levels, respectively. In conclusion, both macroalgae have antibacterial activity in their crude extracts against this bacteria. It is suggested to evaluate it as a feed additive for L. vannamei. The responses of Ulva species to diurnal temperature difference remain poorly understood. In this present study, we cultured Ulva prolifera under different diurnal temperature treatments with 22°C for photoperiod and 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, and12°C for dark period, respectively (noted as 22-22, 22-20, 22-18, 22-16, 22-14, and 22-12°C treatments). The growth, pigment contents, photosynthesis, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, soluble proteins, and sugars were measured. The main results were shown as follows: (1) The growth of U. prolifera was enhanced by the moderate diurnal temperature difference, and the highest growth rate was observed at 22-18°C. (2) Compared with 22-22°C treatment, the thalli grown under 22-18°C condition showed lower chlorophyll a (Chla) content, respiration rate (Rd), the ratio of Rd, and gross photosynthetic rate (Rd/Pg) as well as the net photosynthetic rate (Pn), while the lowest Pn was observed at 22-12°C. (3) The maximum quantum yield (Fv/Fm) was enhanced by diurnal temperature difference, while the effective quantum yield (Fv′/Fm′) decreased with the decreased in temperature in the nighttime. (4) With the increase of the diurnal temperature difference gradient, the SOD activity decreased and then increased, with the lowest value observed at 22-18 °C, and the soluble protein content showed similar trend. Then we cultured this species at 22-22°C and 22-16°C both under 250 and 60 μmol m−2s−1 conditions in order to study the combined effects of diurnal temperature change and light intensities. It was found that under both two light levels, 22-16°C-grown thalli showed higher growth rate, while the SOD activity was lower than that grown under 22-22°C condition. Background: Female genital mutilation (FGM) is defined as all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injuries to them for non-medical reasons. Due to migration, healthcare providers in high-income countries need to better understand the consequences of FGM. The aim of this study was to elucidate women's experiences of FGM, with particular focus on perceived health consequences and experiences of healthcare received in Sweden. Methods: A qualitative study was performed through face-to-face, semi-structured interviews with eight women who had experienced FGM in childhood, prior to immigration to Sweden. The transcribed narratives were analyzed using content analysis. Results: Three main categories were identified : "Living with FGM", "Living with lifelong health consequences" and "Encounters with healthcare providers". The participants highlighted the motives behind FGM and their mothers' ambivalence in the decision process. Although the majority of participants had undergone FGM type 3, the most severe type of FGM, the lifelong health consequences were diverse. Poor knowledge about FGM, insulting attitude, and lack of sensitive care were experienced when seeking healthcare in Sweden. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that FGM is a complex matter causing a diversity in perceived health consequences in women affected. Increased knowledge and awareness about FGM among healthcare providers in Sweden is of utmost importance. The present investigation explores the efficacy of green algae Ulva lactuca biochar-sulfur (GABS) modified with H2SO4 and NaHCO3 in adsorbing methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solutions. The impact of solution pH, contact duration, GABS dosage, and initial MB dye concentration on the adsorption process are all methodically investigated in this work. To obtain a thorough understanding of the adsorption dynamics, the study makes use of several kinetic models, including pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order models, in addition to isotherm models like Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich. The findings of the study reveal that the adsorption capacity at equilibrium (qe) reaches 303.78 mg/g for a GABS dose of 0.5 g/L and an initial MB dye concentration of 200 mg/L. Notably, the Langmuir isotherm model consistently fits the experimental data across different GABS doses, suggesting homogeneous adsorption onto a monolayer surface. The potential of GABS as an efficient adsorbent for the extraction of MB dye from aqueous solutions is highlighted by this discovery. The study's use of kinetic and isotherm models provides a robust framework for understanding the intricacies of MB adsorption onto GABS. By elucidating the impact of various variables on the adsorption process, the research contributes valuable insights that can inform the design of efficient wastewater treatment solutions. Macroalgae are considered healthy food ingredients due to their content in numerous bioactive compounds, and the traditional use of whole macroalgae in Asian cuisine suggests a contribution to longevity. Although much information is available about the bioactivity of pure algal compounds, such as different polyphenols and polysaccharides, documentation of potential effects of whole macroalgae as part of Western diets is limited. Lifestyle- and age-related diseases, which have a high impact on population health, are closely connected to underlying chronic inflammation. Therefore, we have studied crude extracts of green (Ulva fenestrata) and brown (Saccharina latissima) macroalgae, as two of the most promising food macroalgae in the Nordic countries for their effect on inflammation in vitro. Human macrophage-like reporter THP-1 cells were treated with macroalgae extracts and stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to induce inflammatory signalling. Effects of the macroalgae extracts were assessed on transcription factor activity of NF-κB and IRF as well as secretion and/or expression of the cytokines TNF-α and IFN-β and chemokines IL-8 and CXCL10. The crude macroalgae extracts were further separated into polyphenol-enriched and polysaccharide-enriched fractions, which were also tested for their effect on transcription factor activity. Interestingly, we observed a selective activation of NF-κB, when cells were treated with macroalgae extracts. On the other hand, pretreatment with macroalgae extracts selectively repressed IRF activation when inflammatory signaling was subsequently induced by LPS. This effect was consistent for both tested species as well as for polyphenol- and polysaccharide-enriched fractions, of which the latter had more pronounced effects. Overall, this is the first indication of how macroalgae could modulate inflammatory signaling by selective activation and subsequent repression of different pathways. Further in vitro and in vivo studies of this mechanism would be needed to understand how macroalgae consumption could influence the prevention of noncommunicable, lifestyle- and age-related diseases that are highly related to unbalanced inflammatory processes. Anogenital mammary‐like glands are normal structures of the anogenital region. Tumors originating from these glands often exhibit a striking resemblance to their mammary gland counterparts. Herein, we present a rare case of adenocarcinoma of mammary gland type in the vulva of a 69‐year‐old female. Histopathologic examination revealed a complex lesion, which included a large encapsulated papillary carcinoma (EPC) with associated invasive carcinoma of mammary gland type and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). The invasive component consisted mostly of invasive ductal carcinoma of no special type, with a notable focus of invasive mucinous carcinoma. p40 immunostain demonstrated a lack of myoepithelial cells in both the EPC and invasive carcinoma, but such cells expressed p40 around the ducts involved by DCIS. The main component of this lesion, EPC, was characterized by a papillary proliferation within a cystic space surrounded by a fibrous capsule without a myoepithelial layer. The histopathologic features of anogenital EPC closely resemble cutaneous hidradenoma papilliferum. Indeed, there have been a few reports in the literature describing cases where in situ and invasive carcinoma arose from a preexisting hidradenoma papilliferum. As tumors of anogenital mammary‐like glands bear a closer resemblance to breast lesions than to skin tumors, we recommend that they be aligned with the classification of well‐established breast lesions rather than cutaneous adnexal tumors. Accurate and timely estrus detection is one of the critical factors for improving the conception rate of sows in swine reproduction. Estrus detection in the current industry relies on experienced breeding technicians using the back pressure test method, which is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and subjective. This study aimed to develop an image-processing pipeline that could predict the onset of estrus by monitoring the variation of the vulva volume of sows. A robotic imaging system consisting of a LiDAR camera was used to collect depth and infrared (IR) images of sows multiple times per hour. The developed image processing pipeline consisted of a deep learning model (MobileNet) to exclude images with defective postures (e.g., excreting posture, vulva region not showing) for vulva detection. The selected images were further processed to (1) segment sow vulva regions (3-dimensional surface) using a U-Net model, (2) exclude incorrectly segmented 3D vulva surfaces using a MobileNet model, and (3) calculate the vulva volume using the segmented 3D vulva surface. Results show that all three models achieved high test accuracy of 94.8% (MobileNet 1), 96.7% (U-Net), and 100% (MobileNet 2). The vulva volume was calculated using the developed pipeline for all the test sows. Daily average vulva volume showed a noticeable increase in all sows at 0-1 day prior to the onset of estrus. This study concluded that the developed image processing pipeline could automatically detect vulva swelling, which may be used as a biological sign indicating the onset of post-weaning estrus in sows. Aims Macroalgae harbor a rich epiphytic microbiota that plays a crucial role in algal morphogenesis and defense mechanisms. This study aims to isolate epiphytic cultivable microbiota from Ulva sp. surfaces. Various culture media were employed to evaluate a wide range of cultivable microbiota. Our objective was to assess the antibacterial and biofilm-modulating activities of supernatants from isolated bacteria. Methods and results Sixty-nine bacterial isolates from Ulva sp. were identified based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Their antibacterial activity and biofilm modulation potential were screened against three target marine bacteria: 45%, mostly affiliated with Gammaproteobacteria and mainly grown on diluted R2A medium (R2Ad), showed strong antibacterial activity, while 18% had a significant impact on biofilm modulation. Molecular network analysis was carried out on four bioactive bacterial supernatants, revealing new molecules potentially responsible for their activities. Conclusion R2Ad offered the greatest diversity and proportion of active isolates. The molecular network approach holds promise for both identifying bacterial isolates based on their molecular production and characterizing antibacterial and biofilm-modulating activities. While histological diagnosis of Paget disease of vulva is mostly straightforward, identifying and confirming invasion can be challenging. Often invasion is accompanied by epidermal hyperplasia, marked inflammatory response and desmoplastic reaction. Diagnosis of invasion in Paget disease portends a poor outcome. We report findings from a recurrent primary vulvar Paget disease where overall histomorphology of possible invasive disease is unusual and raises a possibility of displacement of Paget cells in the dermis. We compare histology of the index case with known invasive vulvar Paget disease cases retrieved from our pathology archives. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study the correlation between different topographies and the reaction of Ulva Linza fouling species. Design/methodology/approach: In this research, topographies with a different method, such as hot embossing and hot pulling, were achieved, and biological analyses were done with macroalgae Ulva Linza cells. The effect of topography via local binding geometry (honeycomb size gradients) and Wenzel roughness on the settling of Ulva microorganisms was tested. Findings: As a result, Ulva spores confirmed different reactions to a similar set of tapered microstructures that was in agreement with the results on distinct honeycombs. The local binding geometry and the Wenzel roughness factor "r" were dominant on settling of Ulva Linza spores. Research limitations/implications: The reaction of an organism at the interface of vehicles' substrate is powerfully affected by surface topographies. Practical implications: The best embedment occurred on structures with bigger sizes than Ulva Linza's spores. The density of settled spores was proportional to Wenzel roughness and the spores favour to attach to "kink sites" positions. Social implications: Unfortunately, unpleasant aggregation of marine biofouling on marine vehicles' surfaces, generate terrific difficulties in the relevant industry. Originality/value: There was a sharp relationship between Wenzel roughness and settle of Ulva Linza spores. Aim: This cross‐sectional study evaluated vaginal health and hygiene practices among reproductive and perimenopausal women in Japan using an online‐based questionnaire. Methods: The questionnaire included 11 well‐structured questions concerning vulvovaginal symptoms and hygiene care practices. Participants' responses were anonymized and analyzed descriptively. The relationships of age, family income, occupation, and childbearing with women's concerns regarding vaginal or vulvar problems were analyzed by chi‐square tests. Results: About 80% of women in their 20s to 50s in Japan reported experiencing vulvovaginal symptoms. Women in their 40s had significantly fewer symptoms than women in their 20s (p = 0.04), and women in their 50s had significantly fewer symptoms than all other age groups (20s, 30s, and 40s) (p < 0.001). Among symptomatic women, 77.5% did not discuss their symptoms with anyone else and only 10% visited doctors. About 12.5% of women reported taking special care of their vagina or vulva regularly, whereas 38.2% expressed a desire to try some form of care but had not yet done so. Of the women who did not take special care of their vagina or vulva, 46.2% lacked knowledge about proper care, 42.2% did not want to spend money on care, 30.5% did not want to discuss care with others, and 21.3% were psychologically reluctant. Conclusion: Determination of the prevalence of vulvovaginal symptoms among Japanese women can enhance understanding of this prevalent condition and its impact on women's health. This article discusses the challenges and reasons for the underdiagnosis of prenatal ambiguous or atypical genitalia. The authors highlight the impact of this condition on parents and healthcare professionals, as well as the importance of effective communication and sex assignment. They explore the definitions and prevalence of ambiguous/atypical genitalia and the associated genetic, hormonal, and developmental disorders. The article identifies three main factors contributing to the underdiagnosis: lack of knowledge, lack of strong evidence, and lack of recognition and support. The authors propose strategies to improve prenatal detection, including redefining criteria and implementing comprehensive qualitative and quantitative assessments during mid-pregnancy ultrasound examinations. Objective: This study examined the quality of life and burden of disease of vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) patients in three states of menstruation to better understand VLS. Methods: A total of 607 VLS patients were enrolled into this retrospective study. According to the ages of onset, menarche and menopause, the patients were divided into three groups: prepubertal group (n = 96), reproductive group (n = 400) and postmenopausal group (n = 111). Data were collected by direct interview and clinical examination. Results: A total of 93% of patients had itching, with a median numerical rating scale score of five. In the prepubertal group, the median score was three. Nocturnal itching occurred in 49.6% patients. Nearly half of the patients (45.9%) thought the itching affected their sleep. However, this ratio was very different in the prepubertal group (20.7%). Some patients (12.8%) cleaned their vulva more than seven times per week. Only 17.2% of patients experienced no effect on their sex life. The median dermatology life quality index score in all patients was six, but it was only three in the prepubertal group. The median number of hospital visits was two times, and the number of clinic visits was three times. Previous expenses, in median, were 2000 RMB. For 84.3% patients, the gynecologic clinic was their first choice. Conclusion: VLS places great physical, mental and economic burdens on patients. Patients in the prepubertal group had milder symptoms and dermatology life quality index score. VLS should arouse the attention of patients and specialists. Research has been carried out on the effect of pH, fermentation time and yeast concentration on bioethanol production through hydrolysis using a CEM (Ceramic Elekctromagnetic Microwave) synthesizer and bioethanol production from Ulva reticulata seaweed. Ulva reticulata seaweed contains carbohydrates in the form of heteropolysaccharides such as glucose, arabinose, ramnose and xylose which are very abundant and suitable for conversion into bioethanol because the people of Timor Island do not use them as food. The carbohydrate content of Ulva reticulata seaweed can be converted into hexose and pentose sugars (glucose, arabinose, ramnose and xylose) through hydrolysis using 3 types of acid catalysts, namely hydrochloric acid (HCl), sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and nitric acid (HNO3). Fermentation was carried out with S. cerevisiae concentration variation of 6; 8; 10; 12 % (v/v) and fermentation time variation of 3; 5; 7; 9 days and a pH variation of 4; 4.5; 5; 5.5 at a temperature of 30 °C. Reducing sugar characterization used the Dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) reagent, sample surface texture analysis was carried out using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and ethanol characterization used Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionization Detector (GC-FID). The results of surface texture analysis before and after hydrolysis experienced significant changes. Optimal conditions for hydrolysis of Ulva reticulata seaweed using sulfuric acid (H2SO4) combined with a CEM synthesizer at an acid concentration of 3 % (v/v) with irradiation power of 200 watts for 50 min at a temperature of 150 °C, produced reducing sugar of 97.06 g/L. The results of GC-FID analysis indicated that bioethanol concentration obtained at optimal conditions of pH 4.5 was 42.32 %, S. cerevisiae concentration was 12 % with a bioethanol content of 42.53 % at a fermentation time of 5 days. Mammary‐type tissue in the vulva was first described in 1872 but has been rarely reported in the literature. This tissue was previously considered as ectopic breast tissue that occurs as a result of incomplete regression of the milk line. Similar to native breast tissue, ectopic mammary tissue is hormone‐sensitive and can develop benign changes, such as fibroadenoma, as well as malignant changes. A more recent theory suggests that these benign and malignant mammary‐type entities arise from mammary‐like anogenital glands, which constitute normal vulvar components. We report a case of a 41‐year‐old woman who presented with a chronic asymptomatic cyst on the left vulva that eventually became uncomfortable, especially on standing. The cyst was located on the labium minus, measuring 1.0 × 0.5 cm, with no identified erythema or other skin abnormalities. Excision of the lesion and subsequent microscopic examination showed a circumscribed mass with a nodular overgrowth of epithelial and stromal components, resembling a mammary fibroadenoma with pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia. DNA sequences were obtained from 32 blade-forming Ulva specimens collected in 2018 and 2019 from four islands in the Galápagos Archipelago: Fernandina, Floreana, Isabela and San Cristóbal. The loci sequenced were nuclear encoded ITS and plastid encoded rbcL and tufA, all recognized as barcode markers for green algae. Four species were found, Ulva adhaerens, U. lactuca, U. ohnoi and U. tanneri, all of which have had their type specimens sequenced, ensuring the correct application of these names. Only one of these, U. lactuca, was reported historically from the archipelago. Ulva adhaerens was the species most commonly collected and widely distributed, occurring on all four islands. Previously known only from Japan and Korea, this is the first report of U. adhaerens from the southeast Pacific Ocean. Ulva ohnoi was collected on three islands, Isabela, Floreana, and San Cristóbal, and U. lactuca only on the last two. Ulva tanneri is a diminutive, 1–2 cm tall, high intertidal species that is easily overlooked, but likely far more common than the one specimen that was collected. The 2007 flora "Green Seaweeds of Britain and Ireland" did not present the molecular data underpinning the Ulvaceae treatment, mostly ITS sequences. Subsequently, names have changed as type material of Ulva species is sequenced and intensive sampling with DNA barcoding adds new European species. To update the Ulvaceae, we systematically sampled from 2007 to 2021, identifying specimens using various molecular markers alongside DNA from type material of four species. We show here that Ulva gigantea, based on rbcL, tufA and ITS sequences of its holotype, is assigned to Ulva compressa, as is the lectotype of Ulva curvata. Ulva gigantea sensu GenBank and Ulva pseudocurvata are conspecific. The correct name is U. pseudocurvata based on rbcL sequences of the lectotype. Two species of monostromatic Ulvaceae were included in the 2007 flora, but we show that both of them and all earlier British monostromatic collections represent Ulvaria splendens, a species originally described from Alaska. Analysis of two rbcL amplicons of the Ulva sordida lectotype shows that it is conspecific with Ulvaria splendens. Our first genuine collections of Ulvaria obscura from SW England and SW Wales correspond to topotype material from the Bay of Biscay, recent samples from Galicia and unpublished tufA sequences from Britanny. Species classified in the genus Ulva are important foundational marine primary producers distributed worldwide. These species are particularly abundant and diverse through the northwest Pacific (NWP) where they experience marked latitudinal gradients of environmental heterogeneity. It is unclear, however, to what extent such dynamic conditions can modulate phenotypic and genetic patterns in these organisms, potentially reflecting the influence of historical and contemporary biotic and abiotic factors. Here, we assessed inter- and intra-specific genetic patterns of Ulva species through the NWP using plastid rbcL and tufA gene sequences. Although we initially targeted Ulva australis based on morphological identification, we recovered eight Ulva genetic entities masked by morphological similarities. Except for the Ulva linza–procera–prolifera and U. lactuca–reticulata complexes, six of these genetic entities were recovered as individual species (i.e., U. australis, U. ohnoi, U. californica, U. compressa, U. lacinulata, and U. arasakii), and showed biogeographic patterns likely explained by clines in sea surface temperature and ocean current dispersal. At intra-specific level, all the genetic entities showed low genetic variation and divergence based on rbcL (0–0.3 %) and tuf A (0–0.9 %) data. Our results provide insights regarding intra- and inter-specific genetic patterns characterizing morphologically similar Ulva species through the NWP. During the cultivation of Ulva fenestrata in a land-based aquaculture system, the colonisation of the water tanks' surfaces and eventually the macroalgal biomass by the biofouling diatom Fragilariopsis oceanica compromises the production process. Since germanium dioxide (GeO2) is an effective growth inhibitor of diatoms, this study aimed to understand how it affects the presence of F. oceanica and the photosynthesis and growth of U. fenestrata as a primary parameter contribution to the biomass production. A toxicological dose-response experiment showed that the diatom's growth was inhibited at the low GeO2 concentration of 0.014 mg l−1. In contrast, the photosynthetic performances and growth rates of U. fenestrata remained unaffected under a wide GeO2 concentration range (0.022–2.235 mg l−1) in small- and large-scale experiments in 1-l glass beakers and 100-l Plexiglass water tanks, respectively. In the latter, the diatom density in the tanks was reduced by 40 %. The costs arising from the use of GeO2 can range between €2.35 and €8.35 kg−1 fresh weight of produced U. fenestrata biomass under growth conditions resulting in growth rates of 20 and 11.5 % d−1, respectively. Misapplication of Ulva epithets in GenBank has led to confusion in the scientific literature and community. To solve some of the problems, targeted DNA sequencing of plastid encoded rbcL gene amplicons or high-throughput sequencing was performed on all blade-forming Ulva type specimens from the northeast Pacific. Recently collected specimens from at or near type localities were also analyzed for some taxa. Based on these genetic analyses, we confirmed currently recognized species: U. californica, with U. angusta and U. scagelii as heterotypic synonyms, U. stenophylla, U. taeniata, and U. tanneri. Ulva dactylifera, currently considered a synonym of U. taeniata based on morpho-anatomy, is recognized as a distinct species, as is U. expansa whose type specimen was sequenced in 2018. All but two of the ITS, rbcL and tufA sequences in GenBank that were labeled U. californica were correctly named, in contrast to U. taeniata, for which only one of 14 sequences was correctly labeled. Axenic cultures of the green seaweed Ulva mutabilis were inoculated with bacteria providing essential algal growth and morphogenesis-promoting factors (AGMPFs) and were exposed to temperature shifts from 18 °C to 30 °C. The temperature-dependent effect of bacteria on longitudinal algal growth and the molecular composition of the chemosphere in the algal culture medium was explored. The reductionist tripartite model system of U. mutabilis, Roseovarius sp. MS2, and Maribacter sp. MS6 was applied as a reference and has been changed by substituting Roseovarius with isolates that phenocopy this strain. Rathayibacter festucae IH2 and Roseovarius aestuarii G8 boosted growth at 18 °C but slowed it down at 30 °C. Additional inoculation of Roseovarius sp. MS2 mitigated these adverse bacterial effects partially. At 30 °C, the molecular profile of the chemosphere differed dramatically between all tested tripartite communities, indicating different traits of the same bacterium with changing temperatures. Several studies have shown that endophytic fungal metabolites possess vital biological activities; nevertheless, there is a lack of knowledge regarding the medicinally important marine endophytic fungi associated with the seaweeds mainly found in the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh. In this study, six endophytic fungi, belonging to five genera and four classes, were isolated from the well-known chlorophyte, Ulva sp. and were most closely related to Chaetomium globosum, Nigrospora magnoliae, Curvularia sp., Curvularia moringae, Aspergillus terreus and Collariella sp. This is the first report of these fungi as endophytes associated with Ulva sp. from the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh. A preliminary biological evaluation of the ethyl acetate extract of each endophytic fungal crude extract was the prime objective of this research, e.g., antimicrobial assay, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activity and brine shrimp lethality bioassay. Evaluation of test results revealed that each fungal crude extract possessed one or more relevant biological activities. Preliminary chemical screening using TLC and NMR spectroscopic analysis revealed the presence of several secondary metabolites in the crude fungal extracts. The use of high-value fatty acids (FA), omega-3 (n-3), and omega-6 (n-6) from seaweed could relieve the pressure from natural wild fish sources and reduce overfishing worldwide. This research is designed to explore how the harvest season (winter, spring, and summer) and culture period influence the biomass production yield, lipid content, and FA composition in the green seaweed Ulva sp. The studied seaweed was grown in plastic sleeves with flowthrough seawater in Mikhmoret (East Mediterranean, Israel) from July 2019 to December 2020. The Ulva species was identified as Ulva lactuca Linnaeus by DNA barcoding using rbcL, ITS, and tufA markers. No detectable genetic variability in U. lactuca samples was found throughout the research period. A quantitative examination of the lipid and FA content in U. lactuca in different harvest seasons revealed that the maximum content of lipids was in the summer, and that of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) was in the winter. The PUFA profile included eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, n-3, and n-6, where the n-6/n-3 ratio was comparable with the desired range for a balanced nutritional diet. Benefits of integrated shrimp/seaweed culture systems have been investigated; nevertheless, knowledge of the importance of microorganisms in the systems is limited. In the present study, we evaluated shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei under four experimental conditions: fed pelleted diet in the presence of Ulva lactuca with (UPE) and without water exchange (UPN) and fed only a pelleted diet with (PE) and without water exchange (PN). Bacterial communities present in shrimp, seaweed, and water were analyzed after 4 weeks of an experimental trial. Our results showed significantly lower shrimp final weight, weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), and higher feed conversion ratio (FCR) with PN treatment compared to the rest of the treatments (P < 0.05). Seaweed resulted in lower relative abundance of Vibrio in the presence of shrimp (UPE and UPN) compared to monoculture (Ulv). Shrimp intestine presented lower Vibrio and significantly increased Sagittula and Lutimonas in treatments without water exchange. In the case of shrimp fed only pellet with water exchange (PE), a significantly higher relative abundance of Lucibacterium and Planctomicrobium genera was found compared to PN, UPE, and UPN treatments. The results suggest that the seaweed in a system with no water exchange is advantageous to promote water bacterial diversity, and that reduces the relative abundance of Vibrio in shrimp gut. Additionally, PERMANOVA analyses revealed that both seaweed presence and water exchange are significant factors in structuring the culture system microbiota (P < 0.001). Edible green algal species are the most widely distributed and diverse macroalgae in the world and are considered as an important source of bioactive molecules which serve as multi-product sources for nutritional and pharmaceutical applications. The present investigations were carried out concerning biochemical constituents from three species of green marine algae Ulva conglobata, Caulerpa racemosa, and Bryopsis plumosa collected from the coast of Veraval Chowpati, Gujarat India. The biochemical composition was analysed using uv-spectrophotometer to evaluate its food value and find out variations in composition during the investigation period. The reducing sugar, proline, and starch contents were high in Bryopsis plumosa followed by Caule rpa racemosa and Ulva conglobata. Proline content is higher than the total amino acids in three algal species. The protein contents following by Lowry method Caulerpa racemosa have a high amount with 1667.32 ± 18.42 (µgg-1 dry wt.) followed by Bryopsis plumosa 1394.98 ± 18.78 (µgg-1 dry wt.) and Ulva conglobata 292.72 ± 17.85 (µgg-1 dry wt.). The protein content was recorded maximum in Bryopsis plusmosa and Caulerpa racemosa than in the Ulva conglobata. All the assays carried out in the present work showed that all selected green algae are good sources of biochemical. According to the biochemical composition values of the studied algae, they have the potential to be a source of constituents with high nutritional value and use in the food, dietary, and pharmaceutical industries. When emersed, intertidal seaweeds experience rapid changes in environmental conditions. On warm sunny days, seaweeds can desiccate soon after emersion. On rainy days or in areas with freshwater inputs, they may experience rapid drops in salinity. To determine whether one low tide's exposure to environmental stress alters seaweed growth, palatability to herbivores, and dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) concentrations, we exposed Ulva fenestrata to desiccation and hyposaline conditions for 3 h in summer and winter. Two days later, summer desiccation decreased growth, consumption by Lacuna vincta, and DMSP by 71%, 83%, and 67%, relative to controls. Winter desiccation reduced DMSP by 19% and did not affect growth or L. vincta feeding. Summer hyposaline conditions increased growth by 75% but did not affect L. vincta grazing or DMSP, whereas winter hyposaline conditions reduced growth by 37%. After 2 days of exposure to L. vincta, seaweeds were allowed to recover for 7 days, then DMSP was measured. U. fenestrata desiccated in the summer did not survive. Average DMSP concentrations were 127% higher in grazed than ungrazed seaweed in the summer salinity experiment, providing evidence that grazing induces DMSP. No DMSP induction occurred in winter, possibly because grazing rates were much lower. In a follow-up summer desiccation experiment, maximum quantum yields (MQYs) and DMSP decreased to 12% and 14% of controls within an hour. After 7 days, MQY and DMSP concentrations recovered, but growth was 81–97% lower in seaweeds desiccated for 30–60 min, relative to controls. Simple Summary: Aggressive angiomyxoma is a mesenchymal tumor with localized aggressiveness, affecting the connective tissue of the perineum or the lower pelvis. Prevalence in the population is unknown due to its rarity, making management and counseling difficult. The management of angiomyxoma includes multiple types of treatment, such as radical surgery with tumor-free margins, but the probability of local recurrence is high, despite extensive excision with unscathed mar-gins. Considering the low mitotic activity of angiomyxoma, there is not always a rationale for adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Given its exceptionally low incidence, optimal management of the disease remains a subject of on-going debate, and a unanimous consensus on treatment strategies has yet to be reached. Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is a rare, locally aggressive, myxoid mesenchymal neoplasm primarily found in the pelvic and perineal regions of young adult females. It is a slow growing and locally infiltrating tumor. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult due to the rarity of these tumors and absence of characteristic signs and symptoms. The primary management is tumor excision. Incomplete excision is common because of the infiltrating nature of the neoplasm and absence of a definite capsule. Other non- surgical modalities have been employed, such as radiotherapy, embolization, GnRH analogues or other anti-estrogenic agents. Local relapses occur in 30–40% of the cases, and often appear many years (sometimes decades) after the first excision. Occasional distant metastasis has also been reported. A limited number of cases have been reported in the literature, mostly in the form of small case series or isolated case reports. Therefore, the aim of this paper by a team of experts from the MITO rare tumors group is to review clinical findings, pathologic characteristics and outcome of patients affected by this rare condition in order to be able to offer up-to-date guidance on the management of these cases. Background: The clitoris has long been ignored in medical literature and teaching, with the first paper describing its anatomy only published in 1993. It is essential that those working in women's health understand the anatomy of this important female sexual organ. Aims: The aim of this study was to assess the level of knowledge of the anatomy of the clitoris across five cohorts in a busy teaching maternity hospital in Ireland. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire was devised, asking ten consultants, ten non‐consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs), ten midwives, ten midwifery students and ten medical students to name the anatomical parts of a 3D model of the clitoris. Results: None of the 50 respondents could name all five labelled parts of the clitoris, and 38 of respondents could not correctly name one anatomical part. Conclusions: It is evident that there is a lack of knowledge of the anatomical parts of the clitoris among the medical staff included in this study. This reflects a lack of adequate teaching in this area in both past and recent years. Despite this, we acknowledge that women's health and sexual health awareness is improving all of the time, and we hope that this study can highlight the need for reformed teaching in this area. A fully enantioselective, catalytic synthesis of the algal morphogen (−)‐thallusin using polyene cyclization chemistry is reported. The synthesis features dedicated precursor design, introduction of a TMS‐substituted arene as a regioselective terminator, very high enantiomer excess (ee) on gram scale, and productive scaffold functionalization. Furthermore, an ee determination methodology of thallusin samples was developed, and the ee of biosynthesized thallusin was determined. Fe(III)‐uptake studies demonstrated that the cellular uptake of iron facilitated by thallusin derivatives was independent of their morphogenic activity, suggesting their active import via siderophore transporters as a shuttle system. Drug reactions affecting the vulva are understudied and underreported, with some having the potential to cause serious morbidity through long-term sequelae. We conducted a literature review to investigate the current evidence about vulval drug eruptions. We aimed to establish the extent of drug reactions affecting the vulva, identify the common culprit drugs, and review current evidence and guidelines regarding their management. The vulval involvement seen in Steven–Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis and fixed drug eruption forms the focus of this review, but we also summarize the current evidence regarding less common reactions. Objectives Ensuring high-quality radiotherapy requires peer-reviewing target volumes. The Royal College of Radiologists recommends peer review specifically for individual target volumes in cases of gynaecological cancers. This study presents the outcomes of implementing an on-demand peer review system for gynaecological cancers within our institute. Methods The peer review process was planned for gynaecological cancer cases intended for curative radiotherapy. After junior clinical oncologists (COs) completed the segmentation, two senior COs specializing in gynaecological cancers conducted the peer review. All peer review outcomes were recorded prospectively. The audit process compliance, the proportion of patients requiring major and minor modifications in target volumes, the direction of changes, and the factors influencing these changes were reported. Results A total of 230 patients were eligible, and out of these, 204 (88.3%) patients underwent at least one peer review. Among the patients, 108 required major modifications in their target volumes. P-charts revealed a stabilization in the need for major modifications at the end of three months, indicating that 38.2% and 28% of patients still required major modifications for the nodal and primary CTV, respectively. Multivariable analysis demonstrated that major modifications were associated with the use of extended field radiotherapy and radical radiation in non-cervical primary cases. Conclusions An on-demand peer review system was feasible and resulted in clinically meaningful, major modifications in the target volumes for 53% of patients. Advances in knowledge Gynaecological cancers require ongoing peer review to ensure quality of care in radiotherapy. We examine a Twitter attack against our phEmaterialist pedagogy during a UK-wide COVID-19 lockdown. We explore how trolls swarmed together in a collective mocking and ridiculing of images of colorful Play-doh genital models posted as part of a Master's module we teach. The session explored "clitoral validity" as a feminist pedagogical concept to disrupt phallocentric sexuality education through the modeling of the vulva and clitoris. We focus on a sub-sample of the attack, tweets that explicitly refer to clitoral validity, vulvas, and penises. We develop an analytical frame of networked affect and affective homophily in combination with psychoanalytical concepts to map affective circuits of misogyny and hate. To conclude, we use this episode to shed light on what is at stake for scholars working in feminism and/or gender and sexuality studies using creative, participatory, and arts-based methods and we both trouble and reclaim a position of bad feminist researchers/pedagogues. Urovagina (UV) is less studied in cows. The vaginal contents, constrictor vestibule muscle activity, circulating progesterone, pelvic girdle, vagina and vulva angles were compared on Days 0 and 14 within and between UV (UV group; n = 36) and normal (N group; n = 36) cows. The oestrous duration was compared among the groups. Parameters for various UV severities were also compared. Another set of pregnant‐postpartum cows (P‐PP group; n = 31) underwent monthly evaluations for UV and the angles from the third month of pregnancy until the second month postpartum. The effect of age, parity and body condition score on UV severities on Day 0, and parity on angles in the P‐PP group was evaluated. Different variables were correlated in different groups. The UV group was repeat breeder, exhibited prolonged oestrus and reduced progesterone on Day 14. The latter increased with UV severity on Day 0. On Day 14, severe form of UV was more prevalent. The UV severity increased with parity. In the UV group, a cranioventral pelvic girdle on Day 0 became more cranioventral on Day 14 and was correlated with the vagina moving from a caudodorsal position on Day 0 to a cranioventral position on Day 14. In the P‐PP group, the pelvic girdle and vagina remained caudodorsal and UV was undetectable throughout the study. Vagina and vulva displayed a parity‐by‐month interaction in the P‐PP group. Background: Vulvar migration is a rare complication of filler injection for breast augmentation, generally presenting as repeated pain and fever. We will report a case of woman with polyacrylamide hydrogel breast injection develops vulvar abscess. Case presentation: A woman with a history of polyacrylamide hydrogel breast injection was noted to have vulvar abscess due to migration of filler materials. Filler removal surgery and vacuum sealing drainage was performed for this patient. The patient was discharged from the hospital with no further complications. After a review of pertinent literature, only four previous case reports are found. Local inflammatory response, infection, large volume injections, inframammary fold destruction, hematogenous or lymphatic migrate, trauma, gravity and external pressure could play essential parts in the migration of injected filler. Conclusion: Polyacrylamide hydrogel migration poses a worldwide challenge, necessitating personalized solutions. Simple Summary: During estrus in female pigs, a series of signs are exhibited, such as reddening and swelling of the vulva, as well as mucus discharge from the vulva, which signal ovulation and readiness for mating. We analyzed RNA-seq data from the vulva and vagina tissues of two pig breeds at different stages of estrus to elucidate their regulatory mechanisms by analyzing the differential expression genes (DEG) and long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNA), as well as the utilization of alternative polyadenylation (APA) sites. The functions of these factors contribute to a better understanding of the regulatory mechanisms underlying estrus expression in gilts. The fertility rate and litter size of female pigs are critically affected by the expression of estrus. The objective of this study was to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of estrus expression by analyzing the differential expression of genes and long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNA), as well as the utilization of alternative polyadenylation (APA) sites, in the vulva and vagina during the estrus and diestrus stages of Large White and indigenous Chinese Mi gilts. Our study revealed that the number of differentially expressed genes (DEG) in the vulva was less than that in the vagina, and the DEGs in the vulva were enriched in pathways such as "neural" pathways and steroid hormone responses, including the "Calcium signaling pathway" and "Oxytocin signaling pathway". The DEGs in the vagina were enriched in the "Metabolic pathways" and "VEGF signaling pathway". Furthermore, 27 and 21 differentially expressed lincRNAs (DEL), whose target genes were enriched in the "Endocrine resistance" pathway, were identified in the vulva and vagina, respectively. Additionally, we observed that 63 and 618 transcripts of the 3′-untranslated region (3′-UTR) were lengthened during estrus in the vulva and vagina, respectively. Interestingly, the genes undergoing APA events in the vulva exhibited species-specific enrichment in neural or steroid-related pathways, whereas those in the vagina were enriched in apoptosis or autophagy-related pathways. Further bioinformatic analysis of these lengthened 3′-UTRs revealed the presence of multiple miRNAs binding sites and cytoplasmic polyadenylation element (CPE) regulatory aspects. In particular, we identified more than 10 CPEs in the validated lengthened 3′-UTRs of the NFIX, PCNX4, CEP162 and ABHD2 genes using RT-qPCR. This study focused on evaluating the effect of different concentrations of nutrients and total suspended solids on the removal rate of nutrients and biocompounds from the macroalgae U. lactuca in an integrated system with the shrimp Penaeus vannamei in biofloc. The experiment lasted 45 days and included five treatments with three replicates each, with percentages of 0 (control), 25, 50, 75, and 100% biofloc inoculum (73.3 ± 5.7 and 325.0 ± 21.2 mg L−1 initial nitrate and solids, respectively, in the 100% inoculum), from a shrimp farm, resulting in different concentrations of solids and nutrients. The macroalgae were introduced into 280 L tanks at a density of 0.88 kg m−2, along with 200 shrimp m−3. The algae were separated by a floating structure. Water quality parameters were measured, and the nutrient removal rate was evaluated. The treatment with 75% inoculum showed a removal rate of 55.0 ± 4.0 and 31.0 ± 10.0% of nitrate and phosphate, respectively. There was no difference in macroalgae growth between the treatments; however, macroalgae grown in 75% inoculum had higher protein, chlorophyll-a, and lower ash values compared with the control. Objective: Aggressive Angiomyxoma (AA) of the vulva is a slow-growing mesenchymal tumour with a tendency to local invasion and recurrence. Case report: We report two cases of vulvoperineal masses that were diagnosed to be Aggressive Angiomyxomas after surgical excision. Both patients presented to the Gynaecology OPD of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bathinda, Punjab, India, in 2020 and 2022 with complaints of a mass coming out of introitus of three years duration and 14 years duration, respectively. The first patient was managed by surgical excision of the mass via abdominoperineal approach, while the second patient underwent vaginal hysterectomy along with the removal of the mass. Both patients were given GnRH analogues after the surgery to avoid any further recurrences and have been in remission on follow-ups so far. Conclusion: Due to its rare occurrence, clinicians should consider the possibility of AA while encountering patients with vulvovaginal masses to avoid misdiagnosis and delayed management. Background: Solar radiation is primarily composed of ultraviolet radiation (UVR, 200 − 400 nm) and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR, 400 − 700 nm). Ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation accounts for only a small proportion of sunlight, and it is the primary cause of plant photodamage. The use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as refrigerants caused serious ozone depletion in the 1980s, and this had led to an increase in UVB. Although CFC emissions have significantly decreased in recent years, UVB radiation still remains at a high intensity. UVB radiation increase is an important factor that influences plant physiological processes. Ulva prolifera, a type of macroalga found in the intertidal zone, is intermittently exposed to UVB. Alternative oxidase (AOX) plays an important role in plants under stresses. This research examines the changes in AOX activity and the relationships among AOX, photosynthesis, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis in U. prolifera under changes in UVB and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Results: UVB was the main component of solar radiation impacting the typical intertidal green macroalgae U. prolifera. AOX was found to be important during the process of photosynthesis optimization of U. prolifera due to a synergistic effect with non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) under UVB radiation. AOX and glycolate oxidase (GO) worked together to achieve NADPH homeostasis to achieve photosynthesis optimization under changes in PAR + UVB. The synergism of AOX with superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) was important during the process of ROS homeostasis under PAR + UVB. Conclusions: AOX plays an important role in the process of photosynthesis optimization and ROS homeostasis in U. prolifera under UVB radiation. Seaweeds, including the green Ulva lactuca, can potentially reduce competition between feed, food, and fuel. They can also contribute to the improved development of weaned piglets. However, their indigestible polysaccharides of the cell wall pose a challenge. This can be addressed through carbohydrase supplementation, such as the recombinant ulvan lyase. The objective of our study was to assess the muscle metabolism of weaned piglets fed with 7% U. lactuca and 0.01% ulvan lyase supplementation, using an integrated transcriptomics (RNA-seq) and proteomics (LC–MS) approach. Feeding piglets with seaweed and enzyme supplementation resulted in reduced macronutrient availability, leading to protein degradation through the proteasome (PSMD2), with resulting amino acids being utilized as an energy source (GOT2, IDH3B). Moreover, mineral element accumulation may have contributed to increased oxidative stress, evident from elevated levels of antioxidant proteins like catalase, as a response to maintaining tissue homeostasis. The upregulation of the gene AQP7, associated with the osmotic stress response, further supports these findings. Consequently, an increase in chaperone activity, including HSP90, was required to repair damaged proteins. Our results suggest that enzymatic supplementation may exacerbate the effects observed from feeding U. lactuca alone, potentially due to side effects of cell wall degradation during digestion. Two new marine nematode species belonging to the order Monhysterida are described from the sea of China. Halomonhystera zhangi sp. nov. is characterized by its relatively small body size; short anterior sensory setae; small, circular amphidial fovea located at the level of buccal cavity base; funnel-shaped buccal cavity; an excretory-secretory system with a large ventral gland and opening as a very narrow canal just posterior to the level of cephalic setae; slightly curved slender spicules with cephalated proximal end and tapered distal end; rod-like gubernaculum without apophysis; two papilliform precloacal supplements just in front of the cloaca; conico-cylindrical tail with two ventral papillae, each with a seta; and distance between the vulva and anus slightly longer than the tail length. This is the first new species of epiphytic nematode reported in China. The second new species, Stylotheristus flagellicaudatus sp. nov., has a relatively shorter body and longer tail; striated cuticle; The anterior sensilla arranged in two circles, the first circle consisting of six inner labial setiform papillae (3-4 µm) and the second circle consisting of 16 long setae (12-19 µm); a transversely oval amphideal fovea; a well-developed muscle around the funnel-shaped buccal cavity; short spicules and a gubernaculum composed of a single piece; and precloacal supplements absent. Summary: A new needle nematode species, Longidorus patuxentensis n. sp., was collected along the banks of the Western Branch Patuxent River from Upper Marlboro, MD, USA, and described herein. Female body length of the new species ranges from 3.8 to 5.2 mm, with a set off lip region by depression, 77-92 μ m long odontostyle, 40-53 μ m long odontophore, vulva located at 46.3-50.1% and tail conoid with bluntly rounded tip. The new species has four juvenile developmental stages and no males. It looks morphologically similar to L. breviannulatus , L. elongatus , L. martini , L. americanus , L. grandis , L. sabalanicus and L. sturhani by having a ventrally curved to spiral body, generally similar lip region and conoid tail with a rounded terminus, but differs from these species by the odontostyle, odontophore, total stylet length and a few other characters. Phylogenetic analysis of the D2-D3 expansion segments of 28S rRNA gene sequences placed L. patuxentensis n. sp. in a clade with L. litchi , L. fangi , L. jonesi , L. diadecturus and Longidorus sp. The D2-D3 sequence of L. patuxentensis n. sp. was identical to that of Longidorus sp.5 collected from Juglans sp. growing in Butte County, California, USA. The D2-D3 of 28S and ITS1 rRNA and COI gene sequences indicated that the Maryland and California populations belong to the same species, described herein as L. patuxentensis n. sp. Ulee Lheue Beach in Banda Aceh was developed for tourism. The macroalgae and seaweed species found in this area have been widespread but never exploited. Among these species is the green seaweed, Ulva lactuca, commonly known as sea lettuce. The physiological variations and genetic features of the seaweed can be attributed to the variations in the coastal environment. This study aims to describe the molecular identity of the genetic diversity of U. lactuca from the intertidal zone at Ulee Lheue Beach. The development of molecular biotechnology has enabled identification the gene expression through genomic DNA to PCR amplification. Genetic distance was determined using UPGMA. The results from 600-bp fragments were analyze the genetic diversity. A total of 15 (31%) expression identified as polymorphic (>0.500). Heterozygosity (He) and allelic differential (Na) diversity were found of 1.500-3.000. The highest PIC was observed in the rbcL1, with a correlation between subpopulations of 0.459. PCR amplification using the degenerate primer rbcL1 produced fragments ranging from 300 to 460 bp, whereas the expression of UL2 was detected at 448 and 500 bp using the rbcL2 primer. The phylogenetic identify are shown two (2) clusters. The populations of UL1, UL3, and UL4 were found a close relationship. Furthermore, the UL1 and UL2 populations were further divided into distinct clusters but related to the main branch of UL3. Based on this research, the concern of U. lactuca species for industrial and biotechnology destinations, we can describe a suitable method for obtaining he genetic distances between species.
