Consider a spin manifold M, equipped with a line bundle L and an action of a compact Lie group G. We can attach to this data a family Theta(k) of distributions on the dual of the Lie algebra of G. The aim of this paper is to study the asymptotic behaviour of Theta(k) when k is large, and M possibly non compact, and to explore a functorial consequence of this formula for reduced spaces., We have modified the section "Quasi-polynomials and asymptotics"

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to construct geometric objects on a manifold C parametrizing rational curves in the twistor space of a hyperkähler manifold. We shall establish a correspondence between the complex geometry of the twistor space and some differential properties of C (differential operators and curvature of a complex riemannian structure inherited from the base hyperkähler manifold). The first chapters gather some classical results of the theory of hyperkähler manifolds and their twistor spaces. In the chapters 4, 5 and 6, we construct an equivalence of categories between bundles on the twistor space which are trivial on each line and bundles with a connexion of C satisfying certain curvature conditions. The chapter 7 extends this correspondence on the cohomological level whereas the chapter 8 explores its infinitesimal version ; it links curvature of the connexion with thickening (in the sense of LeBrun) of the bundle along the lines., L'objet de cette thèse est la construction d'objets géométriques sur une variété C paramétrant des courbes rationnelles dans l'espace des twisteurs d'une variété hyperkählérienne. On établira une correspondance entre la géométrie complexe de l'espace des twisteurs et des propriétés différentielles sur C (opérateurs différentiels et courbure de la structure riemanienne complexe héritée de la variété hyperkählérienne). Les premiers chapitres précisent le cadre et les résultats connus. Dans les chapitres 4, 5 et 6 on établit une équivalence de catégories entre fibrés triviaux en restriction à chaque droite de l'espace des twisteurs et les fibrés à connexion sur C satisfaisant une condition de courbure. Le chapitre 7 prolonge cette correspondance sur le plan cohomologique tandis que le chapitre 8 en fait l'étude infinitésimale en reliant la courbure de la connexion avec les épaississements infinitésimaux des fibrés le long des droites.

Abstract

If $(G,V)$ is a polar representation with Cartan subspace $\mathfrak c$ and Weyl group $W$, it is shown that there is a natural morphism of Poisson schemes $\mathfrak c \oplus {\mathfrak c}^*/W \to V\oplus V^*/\!\!/\!\!/ G$. This morphism is conjectured to be an isomorphism of the underlying reduced varieties if $(G,V)$ is visible. Abstract

We interest ourselves in the spectral theory of non self-adjoint semi-classical operators in dimension one and in asymptotic expansions of eigenvalues. These expansions are written in terms of geometrical objects in a complex phase space coming from classical mechanics and correspond to a generalization of Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization conditions in the non self-adjoint case. First, we study non self-adjoint perturbations of self-adjoint pseudo-differential operators in dimension one by using techniques of analytic microlocal analysis. As a corollary, we establish for PT-symmetric perturbations of self-adjoint operators, that the spectrum is real. Then we show Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization conditions for non self-adjoint perturbations of self-adjoint Berezin-Toeplitz operators of the complex plane. In the second part, we look into quantizations of the torus, namely the Berezin-Toeplitz, the classical Weyl and the complex Weyl quantizations of the torus. We establish links between these different quantizations using Bargmann transform. We propose a conjecture, supported by numerical simulations, on Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization conditions for non self-adjoint perturbations of self-adjoint Berezin-Toeplitz operators of the torus., On s'intéresse à la théorie spectrale d'opérateurs semi-classiques non auto-adjoints en dimension un et plus précisément aux développements asymptotiques des valeurs propres. Ces derniers font intervenir des objets géométriques issus de la mécanique classique dans l'espace des phases complexifié et correspondent à une généralisation des conditions de quantification de Bohr-Sommerfeld au cadre non auto-adjoint. Plus précisément, dans un premier temps, on étudie le spectre de perturbations non auto-adjointes d'opérateurs pseudo-différentiels auto-adjoints en dimension un à l'aide de techniques d'analyse microlocale analytique et en corollaire, on établit que pour des perturbations PT-symétriques d'opérateurs auto-adjoints, le spectre est réel. Ensuite, on présente des conditions de quantification de Bohr-Sommerfeld pour des perturbations non auto-adjointes d'opérateurs de Berezin-Toeplitz du plan complexe auto-adjoints. Dans un second temps, on s'intéresse aux différentes quantifications du tore et plus précisément à la quantification de Berezin-Toeplitz du tore, à la quantification de Weyl classique du tore et à la quantification de Weyl complexe du tore. On établit des liens entre ces différentes quantifications notamment grâce à la transformée de Bargmann, puis à l'aide de simulations numériques, on met en évidence une conjecture sur des conditions de quantification de Bohr-Sommerfeld pour des perturbations non auto-adjointes d'opérateurs de Berezin-Toeplitz du tore auto-adjoints.

Abstract

International audience; We consider the orbital stability of relative equilibria of Hamiltonian dynamical systems on Banach spaces, in the presence of a multi-dimensional invariance group for the dynamics. We prove a persistence result for such relative equilibria, present a generalization of the Vakhitov-Kolokolov slope condition to this higher dimensional setting, and show how it allows to prove the local coercivity of the Lyapunov function, which in turn implies orbital stability. The method is applied to study the orbital stability of relative equilibria of nonlinear Schrödinger and Manakov equations. We provide a comparison of our approach to the one by Grillakis-Shatah-Strauss.

Abstract

Recently there has been a renewed interest in asymptotic Euler-MacLaurin formulas, partly due to applications to spectral theory of differential operators. Using elementary means, we recover such formulas for compactly supported smooth functions f on intervals, polygons, and 3-dimensional polytopes, where the coefficients in the asymptotic expansion are sums of differential operators involving only derivatives of f in directions normal to the faces of the polytope. Abstract

The purpose of the present paper is two-fold. First, we obtain a non-abelian localization theorem when M is any even dimensional compact manifold : following an idea of E. Witten, we deform an elliptic symbol associated to a Clifford bundle on M with a vector field associated to a moment map. Second, we use this general approach to reprove the [Q,R] = 0 theorem of Meinrenken-Sjamaar in the Hamiltonian case, and we obtain mild generalizations to almost complex manifolds. Title changed to emphasize main results. 21 pages, 7 figures; Roughly twenty five years ago Hofer asked: can the cylinder B^2(1) \times \mathbb{R}^{2(n-1)} be symplectically embedded into B^{2(n-1)}(R) \times \mathbb{R}^2 for some R>0? We show that this is the case if R \geq \sqrt{2^{n-1}+2^{n-2}-2}. We deduce that there are no intermediate capacities, between 1-capacities, first constructed by Gromov in 1985, and n-capacities, answering another question of Hofer. In 2008, Guth reached the same conclusion under the additional hypothesis that the intermediate capacities should satisfy the exhaustion property.

Abstract

International audience; Quantum semitoric systems form a large class of quantum Hamiltonian integrable systems with circular symmetry which has received great attention in the past decade. They include systems of high interest to physicists and mathematicians such as the Jaynes\--Cummings model (1963), which describes a two-level atom interacting with a quantized mode of an optical cavity, and more generally the so-called systems of Jaynes\--Cummings type. In this paper we consider the joint spectrum of a pair of commuting semiclassical operators forming a quantum integrable system of Jaynes\--Cummings type. We prove, assuming the Bohr\--Sommerfeld rules hold, that if the joint spectrum of two of these systems coincide up to $\mathcal{O}(\hbar^2)$, then the systems are isomorphic.

Abstract

We introduce a minimalistic notion of semiclassical quantization and use it to prove that the convex hull of the semiclassical spectrum of a quantum system given by a collection of commuting operators converges to the convex hull of the spectrum of the associated classical system. This gives a quick alternative solution to the isospectrality problem for quantum toric systems. If the operators are uniformly bounded, the convergence is uniform. Abstract

A generalized semitoric system F:=(J,H): M --> R^2 on a symplectic 4-manifold is an integrable system whose essential properties are that F is a proper map, its set of regular values is connected, J generates an S^1-action and is not necessarily proper. These systems can exhibit focus-focus singularities, which correspond to fibers of F which are topologically multipinched tori. The image F(M) is a singular affine manifold which contains a distinguished set of isolated points in its interior: the focus-focus values {(x_i,y_i)} of F. By performing a vertical cutting procedure along the lines {x:=x_i}, we construct a homeomorphism f : F(M) --> f(F(M)), which restricts to an affine diffeomorphism away from these vertical lines, and generalizes a construction of Vu Ngoc. The set \Delta:=f(F(M)) in R^2 is a symplectic invariant of (M,\omega,F), which encodes the affine structure of F. Moreover, \Delta may be described as a countable union of planar regions of four distinct types, where each type is defined as the region bounded between the graphs of two functions with various properties (piecewise linear, continuous, convex, etc). Added Theorems 1.1 and 1.2, which are corollaries of the other results in the paper. These results apply to general d-capacities, not only 2-capacities. 27 pages, 13 figures; We show that the cylinder B^2(1) \times \mathbb{R}^{2(n-1)} embeds symplectically into the product B^{2(n-1)}(R) \times \mathbb{R}^2 for some finite R>0, which answers a question posed by H. Hofer in 1989. This implies the nonexistence of symplectic d-capacities, 1\sqrt{3}. We supply the final arguments to answer Hofer's questions. The main tool is a construction to remove singular limits of families of embeddings.

Abstract

We consider a complex vector bundle N equipped with a real structure cN over a real curve. The set of all real Cauchy-Riemann operators on (N, cN) is an infinite dimensional affine space. The union of all the determinant lines of such operators is a real line bundle Det(N) over this space. The aim of this work is to study the action of the the automorphism group of (N, cN) on the orientations of Det(N) and to deduct some results concerning the orientability of the moduli spaces of real curves in a real symplectic manifold. We first compute the action of the automorphisms which induce the identity on the complex line bundle det(N) in terms of Pin± structures on the real part of (N, cN). We then note that an automorphism of (N, cN) which lifts the identity of the curve acts on the bordism classes of real Spin structures on the curve. We use this action to give a topological description of the action on the orientations of Det(N). Finally, we introduce the notion of a lift of a diffeomorphism of the curve associated to a divisor compatible with (N, cN). Those are automorphisms of (N, cN) for which we can compute explicitly the action on the orientations of Det(N). The last part is devoted to some applications to the study of the orientability of moduli spaces of real curves in a real symplectic manifold. We compute for example, the first Stiefel-Whitney class of such moduli spaces in the case of the complex projective space of dimension three., L'ensemble des opérateurs de Cauchy-Riemann réels sur un fibré vectoriel complexe N muni d'une structure réelle cN au-dessus d'une courbe réelle est un espace affine de dimension infinie. We settle affirmatively the isospectral problem for quantum toric integrable systems: the semiclassical joint spectrum of such a system, given by a sequence of commuting Toeplitz operators on a sequence of Hilbert spaces, determines the classical integrable system given by the symplectic manifold and Poisson commuting functions, up to symplectomorphisms. Abstract

We study the Hamiltonian dynamics and spectral theory of spin-oscillators. Because of their rich structure, spin-oscillators display fairly general properties of integrable systems with two degrees of freedom. Spin-oscillators have infinitely many transversally elliptic singularities, exactly one elliptic-elliptic singularity and one focus-focus singularity. The most interesting dynamical features of integrable systems, and in particular of spin-oscillators, are encoded in their singularities. In the first part of the paper we study the symplectic dynamics around the focus-focus singularity. In the second part of the paper we quantize the coupled spin-oscillators systems and study their spectral theory. The paper combines techniques from semiclassical analysis with differential geometric methods., 32 pages

24 pages; International audience; Let M be a symplectic 4-manifold. A semitoric integrable system on M is a pair of real-valued smooth functions J, H on M for which J generates a Hamiltonian S^1-action and the Poisson brackets {J,H} vanish. We shall introduce new global symplectic invariants for these systems; some of these invariants encode topological or geometric aspects, while others encode analytical information about the singularities and how they stand with respect to the system. Our goal is to prove that a semitoric system is completely determined by the invariants we introduce.

Abstract

Let M be a connected, symplectic 4-manifold. A semitoric integrable system on M essentially consists of a pair of independent, real-valued, smooth functions J and H on the manifold M, for which J generates a Hamiltonian circle action under which H is invariant. In this paper we give a general method to construct, starting from a collection of five ingredients, a symplectic 4-manifold equipped a semitoric integrable system. Then we show that every semitoric integrable system on a symplectic 4-manifold is obtained in this fashion. In conjunction with the uniqueness theorem proved recently by the authors (Invent. Math. 2009), this gives a classification of semitoric integrable systems on 4-manifolds, in terms of five invariants. Abstract

This article gives a simple treatment of the quantum Birkhoff normal form for semiclassical pseudo-differential operators with smooth coefficients. The normal form is applied to describe the discrete spectrum in a generalised non-degenerate potential well, yielding uniform estimates in the energy $E$. This permits a detailed study of the spectrum in various asymptotic regions of the parameters $(E,\h)$, and gives improvements and new proofs for many of the results in the field. In the completely resonant case we show that the pseudo-differential operator can be reduced to a Toeplitz operator on a reduced symplectic orbifold. Using this quantum reduction, new spectral asymptotics concerning the fine structure of eigenvalue clusters are proved. International audience; We prove that if a sequence of pairs of smooth commuting Hamiltonians converge in the $C^0$ topology to a pair of smooth Hamiltonians, these commute. This allows us define the notion of commuting continuous Hamiltonians. As an application we extend some results of Barles and Tourin on multi-time Hamilton-Jacobi equations to a more general setting.

Abstract

We apply methods from strict quantization of solvable symmetric spaces to obtain universal deformation formulae for actions of every three-dimensional solvable Lie group. We also study compatible co-products by generalizing the notion of smash product in the context of Hopf algebras. We investigate in particular the dressing action of the `book' group on SU(2).

Abstract

After a presentation of the context and a brief reminder of deformation quantization, we indicate how the introduction of natural topological vector space topologies on Hopf algebras associated with Poisson Lie groups, Lie bialgebras and their doubles explains their dualities and provides a comprehensive framework. Abstract

International audience; The volume is dedicated to AA. Kirillov and emerged from an international con­ ference which was held in Luminy, Marseille, in December 2000, on the occasion of Alexandre Alexandrovitch's 2^6th birthday. The conference was devoted to the orbit method in representation theory, an important subject that influenced the de­ velopment of mathematics in the second half of the XXth century. Among the famous names related to this branch of mathematics, the name of AA Kirillov certainly holds a distinguished place, as the inventor and founder of the orbit method. The research articles in this volume are an outgrowth of the Kirillov Fest and they illustrate the most recent achievements in the orbit method and other areas closely related to the scientific interests of AA Kirillov. The orbit method has come to mean a method for obtaining the representations of Lie groups. It was successfully applied by Kirillov to obtain the unitary rep­ resentation theory of nilpotent Lie groups, and at the end of this famous 1962 paper, it was suggested that the method may be applicable to other Lie groups as well. Over the years, the orbit method has helped to link harmonic analysis (the theory of unitary representations of Lie groups) with differential geometry (the symplectic geometry of homogeneous spaces). This theory reinvigorated many classical domains of mathematics, such as representation theory, integrable sys­ tems, complex algebraic geometry. It is now a useful and powerful tool in all of these areas.
