Miyazis, Diptera sınıfı larvaların omurgalı doku ve vücut boşluklarını istila etmesi anlamına gelen bir terimdir. Nazal miyaz çoğunlukla Sarcophagidae ve Calliphoridae ailesi üyelerinin neden olduğu bir enfestasyondur. Bulaşında birçok predispozan faktörün rol aldığı hastalığın tedavisinde mekanik temizleme ile beraber antiseptiklerin kullanımı tavsiye edilmektedir. Bu olguda, 75 yaşında yoğun bakımda yatan bir hastada görülen nazofarengeal miyaz sunuldu. Hastanın burnunda dokuz adet larva tespit edilmiştir. Larvalar bölgeden uzaklaştırılarak üç gün boyunca bölge %5’lik iodin solüsyonuyla temizlendi. Makroskobik ve mikroskobik incelemeler sonunda etkenin Sarcophaga sp.’nin üçüncü evre larvaları olduğu belirlendi. Miyaz enfestasyonlarını engellemek için yoğun bakım ünitelerini gibi hastanın bilincinin kapalı olduğu yerlerde görev yapan personeller hastaların burun, ağız ve kulak boşluğu gibi vücut boşluklarını günlük olarak kontrol etmeli, bakım ve temizliğini en uygun şekilde yapmalıdır. Myiasis is a parasitic infestation of tissues and body cavities of vertebrates by Diptera larvae. Nasal myiasis is mostly caused by the Sarcophagidae and Calliphoridae families. Many predisposing factors play a role in the appearance of nasal myiasis. In the treatment of the disease, the use of antiseptics together with mechanical cleaning is recommended. In this report, a case of nasopharyngeal myiasis in a 75-year-old patient hospitalized in the intensive care unit is presented. Nine larvae were detected in the patient's nose. Larvae were removed from the area and were cleaned with iodine solution for three days. As a result of macroscopic and microscopic examination, the larvae were identified as the third stage of Sarcophaga sp. in order to prevent myiasis infestations, personnel working in places where the patient is unconscious, such as intensive care units, should daily check the patient's body cavities such as nose, mouth and ear cavities, and perform their care and cleaning.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada, 2011-2020 yılları arasında Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Parazitoloji Laboratuvarı’na başvuran hastalarda tespit edilen bağırsak parazitlerin dağılımının retrospektif olarak değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntemler: Parazit incelemesi için parazitoloji laboratuvarına gönderilen dışkı numuneleri native-Lugol yöntemi ve selofan bant ile gönderilen numuneler ise direkt mikroskobi ile incelenmiştir. Ayrıca protozoonların tanımlanmasında modifiye asitfast ve trikrom boyama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Parazitoloji laboratuvarına gönderilen 60,501 Gaita numunesinin %5,99’unda parazit tespit edildi. Bu parazitlerin içerisinde %57,62 ile Blastocystis spp. en yüksek oranda saptandı, bunun dışında saptanan diğer parazitler ise sırasıyla Giardia intestinalis %31,93, Entamoeba histolytica/dispar %3,75, Hymenelopis nana %2,37, Fasciola spp., %1,57, Taenia spp. %0,91, Enterobius vermicularis %0,72, Cryptosporidium spp.%0,52, Cyclospora cayatenensis %0,42, Ascaris lumbricoides ise %0,19 oranında idi. Sonuç: Çalışmamızda bağırsak parazit enfeksiyonlarının görülme oranları on yıllık süre içinde azalma gösterse de önemini korumaya devam etmektedir. Bu nedenle, bağırsak parazitlerinin prevalansının azaltılması için; temiz su kaynaklarının korunması, alt yapı sorunlarının giderilmesi, toplumun sanitasyon kuralları hakkında bilgilendirilmesi gerekmektedir. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine and evaluate retrospectively the distribution of intestinal parasites detected in patients who applied to Dicle University Medical Faculty Parasitology Laboratory between 2011-2020. Methods: Stool samples sent to the parasitology laboratory for parasite examination were examined by the native-Lugol method and the samples sent with cellophane tape were examined microscopically for parasite examination. In addition, modified acidfast and trichrome staining methods were used to identify protozoan. Results: Parasites were detected in 5.99% of 60.501 stool samples sent to the parasitology laboratory. Blastocystis spp. (57.62%) was detected with the highest rate among positive samples, followed by 31.93% Giardia intestinalis, 3.75% Entamoeba histolytica/ dispar, 2.37% Hymenolepis nana, 1.57% Fasciola spp., 0.91% Taenia saginata, 0.72% Enterobius vermicularis, 0.52% Cryptosporidium spp., 0.42% Cyclospora cayetanensis, 0.19 Ascaris lumbricoides were detected. Conclusion: Although the incidence of intestinal parasite infections in our study decreased over a ten-year period, it continues to maintain its importance. Therefore, to reduce the prevalence of intestinal parasites; It is important to safeguarding clean water resources, solve infrastructure problems, and inform the public about sanitation rules.

Sıtma Plasmodium ailesine ait protozoaların neden olduğu ve anofel cinsi sivrisineklerle insanlara bulaşan bir hastalıktır. Bu vaka bildiriminde yurt dışı kaynaklı bir P. falciparum olgusu sunuldu. Ateş, titreme, terleme, anlamsız konuşma şikayetlerine sahip 49 yaşındaki bir erkek hasta enfeksiyon hastalıkları po- likliniğine başvurdu. Hastanın hikâyesinden Sudan’da işçi olarak çalıştığı öğrenildi. Hastanın fizik muayenesinde genel duru- munun kötü ve konfüze olduğu tespit edildi. Kalın damla ve ince yayma için parmak ucundan kan alınarak preparat hazırlandı. Bu preparatlar Giemsa yöntemi ile boyanarak incelendi. İncelenen preparatlarda P. falciparum’a ait trofozoitler ve gametositler teşhis edildi. Teşhis sonrası hastaya artesunat başlandı ve tedavi sonrası hasta şifa ile taburcu edildi. Yurt dışı kaynaklı falciparum sıtması vakalarında klorokine direnç ihtimalinden dolayı Artesu- nat ile tedavi seçeneği göz önünde tutulmalıdır. Malaria is a disease caused by protozoans belonging to the Plas- modium family and transmitted to humans with infected fe- male anophylous mosquitoes. In this case report, P. falciparum case originating from abroad was presented. A 49-year-old male patient with complaints of fever, shivering, sweating and meaningless speech applied to infectious diseases policlinic. It was learned from the patient’s epicrisis that he was working as a worker in Sudan. Physical inspection of the patient defined that the general condition was poor and confused. Thick drops and thin spread preparations were prepared from the blood speci- men taken from the fingertip, and these preparations were ex- amined by staining with Giemsa. Trophozoites and gametocytes of P. falciparum were detected in the examined preparations. After the diagnosis, the artesunate was started on the patient, and after treatment, the patient was discharged with healing. Because of the possibility of resistance to chloroquine in fal- ciparum malaria cases originating from abroad, the treatment option with artesunate should be considered.

Balıkesir Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Kimya Ana Bilim Dalı, Karbazolün keşfi, pratik ve teorik çalışmaları 1960'lı yıllardan günümüze kadar devam etmektedir. Halkalı Azotlu bileşiklerden oluşan karbazoller; antimikrobiyel ve antibakteriyel biyolojik etki gösterdiği gibi, iletkenlik ve ısısısal dayanım gibi fiziksel özellikleri sayesinde bir çok biyoteknolojik ve mühendislik alanlarında araştırma ve çalışma konusu olmuştur. Günümüzde mühendislik alanında önemli çalışma konularından biri olan OLED teknolojisinin gelişmesinde karbazollerin sahip olduğu iletkenlik ve fotokimyasal özellikleri önemli rol oynamaktadır. Bu tez çalışması çeşitli aşamalardan oluşmaktadır. Nükleofilik sübstitüsyon reaksiyonu ile saf karbazol n-heptil ile alkilizasyonu şeklindedir. (9-heptil-9H-karbazol). Sentezlenen bu karbazol türevi; 3-, 6- konumları nitrolandı (9-heptil-3,6-dinitro-9H-karbazol). Fonksiyonel grupların bağlanabileceği aktif merkezleri oluşturabilmek için indirgeme işlemi ile Amin gruplarının bulunduğu karbazol türevi sentezlendi. (9-heptil-9H-karbazol-3,6-diamin) İkinci aşama ise bu merkezler üzerinden aromatik aldehitlerin kondenizasyon reaksiyonları ile bağlanması sonucu Schiff baz türevlerinin sentezlenmesidir. Sentezlenen Schiff baz türevleri; F-1, (N3,N6-bis((antrasen-9-il)metilen)-9-heptil-9H-karbazol-3,6-diamin), F-2, 9-heptil-N3-((naftalen-2-il)metilen)-N6-((naftalen-3-il)metilen)-9H-karbazol-3,6-diamin), F-3, (9-heptil-N3,N6-bis((fenantren-10-il)metilen)-9H-karbazol-3,6-diamin), F-4, (9-heptil-N3-((1,3-dihidropiren-7-il)metilen)-N6-((piren-2-il)metilen)-9H-karbazol-3,6-diamin)'dir. Sentezlenen bu bileşiklerin karakterizasyonları ise FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR ve MS yöntemleri kullanılarak aydınlatılmıştır. Çalışmanın son aşamasında ise sentezlenen bileşiklerin bağ açıları, bağ uzunlukları, molekül enerjileri, HOMO-LUMO enerjileri ve HOMO-LUMO enerji seviyelerinin orbital dağılımı, UV absorpsiyon geçişleri; Moleküler Mekanik, Semi-Emprik (PM3) temel setleri kullanılarak HyperChem 8.0.7 programı ile hesaplanmıştır. Elde edilen geometrik parametreler ve UV absorpsiyon değerleri deneysel ve literatürde yer alan değerler ile uyum içinde oldukları gözlenmiştir., The discovery, practical and theoretical studies of carbazole have been proceeding since 1960s. Carbazoles of cyclic nitrogenous compounds; besides its antimicrobial and antibacterial biological effects, it has been the subject of researches and scientific studies in many biotechnological and engineering fields due to its physical properties such as conductivity and thermal resistance. The conductivity and photochemical properties of carbazoles play an important role in the development of OLED technology, which is one of the most important research topics in the field of engineering. Our thesis study consists of several stages. The first step of the stages is alkylation with heptyl bromide to pure carbazole structure. (9-heptyl-9H-carbazole). Nitro groups are attached to the 3-, 6- positions by nitrolation from this synthesized compound. (9-Heptyl-3,6-dinitro-9H-carbazole) The carbazole derivative containing the amine groups is synthesized by reduction to form active centers which the functional groups can be attached. (9-Heptyl-9H-carbazole-3,6-diamine). In the second stage, Schiff base structures were formed by connecting various aromatic aldehyde groups with condensation reactions via these centers. F-1 (N3, N6-bis ((anthracen-9-yl) methylene) -9-heptyl-9H-carbazole-3 , 6-diamine), F-2 (9-Heptyl-N3 - ((naphthalen-2-yl) methylene) ) -N6 - ((naphthalen-3-yl) methylene) -9H-carbazol-3,6-diamine) F-3 (9-heptyl-N3, N6-bis ((phenanthren-10-yl) methylene) -9H-carbazole-3,6-diamine), F-4 (9-heptyl-N3 - ((1,3-dihydropyrene-7 -yl) methylene) -N6 - ((pyren-2-yl) methylene) -9H-carbazol-3,6-diamine) compounds were synthesized. The characterizations of synthesized compounds have been proven by using FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and MS methods. In the last stage of the thesis study, bonding angles of synthesized compounds, bond lengths, molecular energies, HOMO-LUMO energies and orbital distribution of HOMO-LUMO energy levels, UV absorption transitions was calculated by HyperChem 8.0.7 program using primary sets by Semi-Empirical (PM3) and Molecular Mechanics methods. The obtained geometric parameters and UV absorption values have been compared with the values in the literature.

Titanyum alaşımları, yüksek korozyon direnci, spesifik mukavemet ve yüksek sıcaklık kararlılığı gibi istisnai özellikleri nedeniyle biyomedikal, havacılık, gıda işleme ve petrokimya endüstrilerinde yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Bu üstün özelliklerinin yanında sınırlı aşınma direnci, üretim zorluğu ve yüksek maliyet gibi bazı olumsuz özellikler de vardır. Titanyum alaşımına kriyojenik işlem uygulanmasının, yukarıda belirtilen olumsuz yönlerin bazılarının çözülmesine katkıda bulunabileceği düşünülmektedir. Yapılan çalışmaların sonucunda Ti6Al4V alaşımına kriyojenik işlem uygulanmasının malzeme özelliklerinde pek çok değişime yol açtığı gözlenmiştir. Uygulanan kriyojenik işlem ile mikroyapının değiştiği, β fazının işlem süre ve koşullarına bağlı olarak α fazına dönüştüğü, yapıdaki iç gerilmelerin azaldığı, tanelerin düzenlendiği yapılan karakterizasyon çalışmaları sonucunda gözlenmiştir. İçyapıdaki düzenlenme etkisi elektriksel iletkenlik testinde de gözlenmiştir, bu teste göre 36 saat kriyojenik işlem uygulanan numunenin elektriksel iletkenliğinin yaklaşık %7 artmıştır. Aşınma testi sonuçlarına göre 24 saat derin kriyojenik işlem uygulanan numunelerin aşınma direnci yaklaşık %8,5 çözeltiye alma sonrası 36 saat yaşlandırma uygulanan numunelerin aşınma direnci ise yaklaşık %13 artmıştır. Çekme testi sonuçlarına göre kriyojenik işlemin malzemenin plastisite özelliklerine olumlu etkisi olduğu gözlenmiş 36 saat kriyojenik işlem uygulanan numunelerin; tokluğu %5 düzgün plastik şekil değiştirme bölgesi alanı ise %8 artmıştır. İmal edilebilirlik özellikleri ise tel erozyon yöntemi ile belirlenmiştir, bu sonuçlara göre 36 saat derin kriyojenik işlem uygulanan numunelerin malzeme kaldırma oranı yaklaşık %5 artarken ortalama yüzey pürüzlülüğü değerleri %30 düzeyinde azalmıştır. Elektrokimyasal özelliklere olan etkilerini incelemek için %0,9’luk izotonik çözelti kullanılarak korozyon testeri yapılmıştır. Bu testlere göre tüm numunelerde koruyucu oksit filmi oluşması gerçekleşmiş; potansiyodinamik testlere göre yalnızca derin kriyojenik işlem uygulanmasının korozyon direncine olumlu etki ettiği ancak yaşlandırma öncesi uygulandığı durumda korozyon potansiyelini bir miktar artırdığı gözlenmiştir. Bu kapsamda kriyojenik işlemin sıcaklık ve süresinin kontrollü olarak uygulanmasının Ti6Al4V alaşımında mekanik özellikler, imal edilebilirlik, aşınma, korozyon gibi pek çok farklı özelliğe olumlu etki edebileceği görülmüştür Titanium alloys are widely used in the biomedical, aerospace, food processing, and petrochemical industries due to their exceptional properties such as high corrosion resistance, specific strength, and high-temperature stability. In addition to these superior properties, there are some negative properties such as limited wear resistance, production difficulty and high cost. It is contemplated that the application of cryogenic treatment to the titanium alloy may contribute to the resolution of some of the above-mentioned disadvantages. As a result of experimental studies, it has been observed that cryogenic treatment of Ti6Al4V alloy causes many changes in material properties. The characterization studies show that the microstructure changed with the cryogenic treatment, the β phase transformed into α phase depending on the processing time and conditions, the internal stresses in the structure decreased and the grains were refined. Another result in which the regulation effect in the internal structure was observed was the electrical conductivity test which showed that the electrical conductivity of the sample which was applied for 36 hours cryogenic process increased by 7%. According to the wear test results, wear resistance of samples treated with deep cryogenic treatment for 24 hours increased by approximately 8.5% and wear resistance of samples subjected to 36 hours aging after solution increased by 13%. Tensile test results showed that the cryogenic process had a positive effect on the plasticity properties of the material. The toughness increased by 5% while the uniform plastic deformation area increased by 8%. Manufacturability properties were determined by the wire erosion method. According to these results, the material removal rate of the samples applied 36 hours deep cryogenic process increased by approximately 5%, while average surface roughness values decreased 30%. Corrosion tester was used by using a 0.9% isotonic solution to investigate the effects on electrochemical properties. According to these tests, protective oxide film was formed in all samples; According to potentiodynamic tests, it was observed that only deep cryogenic treatment had a positive effect on corrosion resistance but it increased the corrosion potential to some extent when applied before aging. In this context, the controlled application of temperature and duration of the cryogenic treatment might improve mechanical properties, manufacturability, wear and corrosion of Ti6Al4V alloy

İç mekan tanıma, insan yapımı yapıların yüksek sınıf içi varyasyonlar ve sınıfarası benzerlikler göstermesi sebebiyle klasik mekan tanıma alanının zorlu birproblemidir. Resmin bütüncül temsillerini çıkarmak gibi en ileri mekan tanımateknikleri iç mekanlarda düşük performans göstermektedirler. Nesnelerin belirlenmesive ardından onların mekanlarla ilişkilendirilmesi gibi ara kademeler kullanandiğer yöntemlerin de oldukça karmaşık bir ortamda nesnelerin başarıyla lokalizeedilmesi ve tanınması handikapları vardır.Kodkitabı olarak da bilinen görsel kelimeler kümesi tekniğinden faydalanaraken yakın komşu yöntemine dayalı bir metrik fonksiyonu ile bu zorluklarınüstesinden gelebilen bir sınıflandırma yöntemi öneriyoruz. Kodkitabı oluşumuöznitelik uzayının mozaikleştirilmesi olarak ele alınırsa, verilen bir resim için,öznitelik vektörlerinin Voronoi hücrelerinin ortalarına olan öğrenilmiş ağırlıklıuzaklıklarının resmin kategorisi için güçlü bir gösterge olduğunu gözlemledik.Yöntemimiz tek bir tanımlayıcı ile bir iç mekan testinde en gelişmiş yaklaşımlarıgeçmekte ve genel bir mekan veri kümesinde rekabetçi sonuçlar üretmektedir.Bu çalışmada her ne kadar temel sorunumuz iç mekan kategorizasyonu olsa da,önerilen metrik fonksiyonunu otomatik etiketleme problemine de bir temel uygulamaoluşturmak için kullanıyoruz. Indoor scene recognition is a challenging problem in the classical scene recognitiondomain due to the severe intra-class variations and inter-class similarities ofman-made indoor structures. State-of-the-art scene recognition techniques suchas capturing holistic representations of an image demonstrate low performance onindoor scenes. Other methods that introduce intermediate steps such as identifyingobjects and associating them with scenes have the handicap of successfullylocalizing and recognizing the objects in a highly cluttered and sophisticatedenvironment.We propose a classication method that can handle such diculties of theproblem domain by employing a metric function based on the nearest-neighborclassication procedure using the bag-of-visual words scheme, the so-called codebooks.Considering the codebook construction as a Voronoi tessellation of thefeature space, we have observed that, given an image, a learned weighted distanceof the extracted feature vectors to the center of the Voronoi cells gives a strongindication of the image's category. Our method outperforms state-of-the-art approacheson an indoor scene recognition benchmark and achieves competitiveresults on a general scene dataset, using a single type of descriptor.In this study although our primary focus is indoor scene categorization, we alsoemploy the proposed metric function to create a baseline implementation for theauto-annotation problem. With the growing amount of digital media, the problemof auto-annotating images with semantic labels has received signicant interestfrom researches in the last decade. Traditional approaches where such content ismanually tagged has been found to be too tedious and a time-consuming process.Hence, succesfully labeling images with keywords describing the semantics is acrucial task yet to be accomplished. 57

Background: Procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are acute phase reactants indicating inflammation, particularly in bacterial infections. High PCT or CRP levels were proposed in malaria, invasive amoebiasis, babesiosis and schistosomiasis. Since liver is the sole habitat, it was hypothesized that PCT and CRP may have a role in the diagnosis of fascioliasis. Objective: The study aimed to investigate whether PCT and CRP have a role in the diagnosis of fascioliasis. Subjects and Methods: Fifty fascioliasis patients and 50 healthy blood donors in the same age range, as the control group, were included in the study. Fascioliasis was diagnosed by anti-Fasciola IgG ELISA, in addition, direct stool examinations (fresh smear and after sedimentation) were performed in both groups. Serum PCT and CRP levels were determined by I-chroma kits on I- CHROMATM II device, and NFL BN-II immunonephelometry system, respectively. Results: There was no statistically significant difference of PCT and CRP values between the fascioliasis patient group and the control group (P> 0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that PCT and CRP were not relevant parameters for diagnosis of fascioliasis.

Blastocystis sp. insan ve hayvanlardan izole edilen patojen bir etken olup günümüze kadar tespit edilebilmiş 17 subtipi bulunmaktadır. Bu subtiplerden 9 tanesi insanda görülmekte ve Blastocystis hominis olarak isimlendirilmektedir. Blastocystis hominis'in bulaş kaynakları ve patojenliği üzerinde en fazla tartışılan konulardan biriydi. Son yapılan çalışmalar sonucu Blastocystis hominis'in patojen bir etken olduğu kabul edilmektedir. Özellikle gastrointestinal (GİS) şikâyetleri ve ürtiker gibi hastalıklarla ilişkili olduğu yönünde fikir birliği sağlanmış ise de bu etkenin patojen ve apatojenliğini etkileyen faktörlerin ayrımında tartışmalar devam etmektedir. Günümüzde subtiplerin ve morfolojik formların Blastocystis hominis'in patojenliğini etkileyen faktörler olabileceği ifade edilmektedir. Çalışmaya, Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Gastroenteroloji, Dermatoloji ve Onkoloji polikliniklerinden toplanmış Blastocystis hominis yönünden pozitif 51 hasta dışkı örneği, kontrol grubu olarak herhangi bir şikayeti olmayan sağlıklı bireylerden toplanmış 18 dışkı örneği; sığır, koyun, at ve tavuklardan toplanan Blastocystis hominis yönünden pozitif 27 hayvan dışkı örneği dahil edildi. Çalışmaya dahil edilen örnekler nativ-Lugol ve trikrom boyama yöntemi ile değerlendirildi. Pozitif bulunan örnekler kültür yöntemi ile çalışıldı. Kültürde pozitif çıkan örneklerin subtip tespiti PCR yöntemi ile yapıldı. PCR işleminde insanda enfeksiyon yapabilen 9 subtipin tayini için Sequence-Tagged Site (STS) primerleri kullanıldı. Bu çalışmada direk bakıda pozitif bulunan bütün örnekler Jones medium kültür yöntemiyle de pozitif olarak tespit edildi. Kültür yöntemi, içerisinde çok sayıda hücresel yapı ve artefakt bulunduran hayvan dışkı örneklerinin tanımlanmasında daha güvenilir bir yöntem olarak değerlendirildi. Çalışmamızda, ST3 en yaygın subtip olarak belirlendi. ST3’ten sonra en sık görülen subtipler sırasıyla ST1, ST2, ST7, ST6 ve ST5 olarak tespit edildi. Bu çalışmada, ülkemizde ilk defa koyunlarda ST5 ve ST6 tespit edildi. Çalışmamızda insanlarda Blastocystis sp. genel primerleri pozitif olarak tespit edilen 12 hastada hiçbir subtip belirlenemedi. Bu durum bizlere, insanda enfeksiyon yapan subtiplerin 9’dan daha fazla olduğu ve ileride yapılan moleküler dizi analiz çalışmalarıyla başka subtiplerin de tespit edilebileceği fikrini verdi. Nine of these subspecies can be seen in humans and they are called Blastocystis hominis. Infection sources and pathogenesis of Blastocystis hominis was one of the most debated topics. As a result of the conducted studies, Blastocystis hominis is considered to be a pathogenic factor. Although there is consensus on the fact that it is associated with diseases such as gastrointestinal (GI) complaints and urticaria, there are still debates on the differentiation of factors that affect the pathogenesis and apoptosis. It is stated today that subtypes and morphological forms may be factors affecting the pathogenicity of Blastocystis hominis. The study included 51 positive stool samples collected from patients admitted to the Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Oncology polyclinics of the Dicle University Faculty of Medicine and from control groups, 18 stool samples from healthy individuals with no complaints, and 27 positive animal specimens in regards to Blastocystis hominis consisting of double-claw, single-claw and poultry groups. The samples included in the study were evaluated by Native-Lugol and trichrome staining method. Positive samples were evaluated by the culture method. The subtypes of the samples which were positive in culture were determined by the PCR method. Sequence-Tagged Site (STS) primers were used for the detection of 9 subtypes capable of infecting in-house during PCR. All specimens positive for direct microscopic examination were also detected as positive by the Jones medium culture method too. The culture method was evaluated as a more reliable method of identifying animal stool specimens with numerous cellular structures and artefacts. ST3 was identified as the most common subtype in our research. The frequency of sighting following ST3 was determined as ST1, ST2, ST7, ST6 and ST5 respectively. In this study, ST5 and ST6 were detected in sheep for the first time in our country. In our study, no subtypes could be detected in 12 patients with PCR positive Blastocystis hominis general primers. This provided us the idea that subtypes infecting humans are more than 9 and we could detect other subspecies in the future studies conducted with molecular sequence analysis.
