Abstract

International audience; Identifcation and ftting is an important task in reverse engineering and virtual/augmented reality. Compared to the traditional approaches, carrying out such tasks with a deep learning-based method have much room to exploit. This paper presents SMA-Net (Spatial Merge Attention Network), a novel deep learning-based end-to-end bottom-up architecture, specifcally focused on fast identifcation and ftting of CAD models from point clouds. The network is composed of three parts whose strengths are clearly highlighted: voxel-based multi-resolution feature extractor, spatial merge attention mechanism and multi-task head. It is trained with both virtually-generated point clouds and as-scanned ones created from multiple instances of CAD models, themselves obtained with randomly generated parameter values. Using this data generation pipeline, the proposed approach is validated on two diferent data sets that have been made publicly available: robot data set for Industry 4.0 applications, and furniture data set for virtual/augmented reality. Experiments show that this reconstruction strategy achieves compelling and accurate results in a very high speed, and that it is very robust on real data obtained for instance by laser scanner and Kinect.

Abstract

During manual wheelchair (MWC) locomotion, the user's upper limbs are subject to heavy stresses and fatigue because the upper body is permanently engaged to propel the MWC. These stresses and fatigue vary according to the environmental barriers encountered outdoors along a given path. This study aimed at conducting a systematic review of the literature assessing the biomechanics of MWC users crossing various situations, which represent physical environmental barriers. Through a systematic search on PubMed, 34 articles were selected and classified according to the investigated environmental barriers: slope; cross-slope; curb; and ground type. For each barrier, biomechanical parameters were divided into four categories: spatiotemporal parameters; kinematics; kinetics; and muscle activity. All results from the different studies were gathered, including numerical data, and assessed with respect to the methodology used in each study. This review sheds light on the fact that certain situations (cross-slopes and curbs) or parameters (kinematics) have scarcely been studied, and that a wider set of situations should be studied. Five recommendations were made at the end of this review process to standardize the procedure when reporting materials, methods, and results for the study of biomechanics of any environmental barrier encountered in MWC locomotion: (i) effectively reporting barriers’ lengths, grades, or heights; (ii) striving for standardization or a report of the approach conditions of the barrier, such as velocity, especially on curbs; (iii) reporting the configuration of the used MWC, and if it was fitted to the subject’s morphology; (iv) reporting rotation sequences for the expression of moments and kinematics, and when used, the definition of the musculoskeletal model; lastly (v) when possible, reporting measurement uncertainties and model reconstruction errors. International audience; Even if 3D acquisition systems are nowadays more and more efficient, the resultingpoint clouds nevertheless contain quality defects that must be taken into accountbeforehand, in order to better anticipate and control their effects. Assessing the quality of3D acquisitions has therefore become a major issue for scan planning. This paper presentsseveral quality metrics that are then studied to identify those that could be used to optimizethe acquisition positions to perform an automatic scan. From the experiments, it appearsthat, when considering multiple acquisition positions, the coverage ratio and score indicatorhave significant changes and can be used to evaluate the quality of the measurements. Differently,other indicators such as efficacy ratio, registration error and metrological characteristicsare insensitive to some acquisition positions

Abstract

Nous présentons une méthode pour imager la propagation d'une onde de choc dans une couche métallique épaisse et opaque. [1] L'onde de choc est générée par une source laser impulsionnelle de puissance (>GW/cm², ~10 ns) focalisée en surface d’une cible métallique (épaisseur ~ 10 mm). Suite à un tel chargement laser, la surface de la cible est sublimée en un plasma dense qui, en se détendant, induit la propagation d’un choc dans le volume du matériau, d’intensité crête quelques GPa ou centaines de m/s en vitesse. Les applications du choc laser vont de l'ingénierie [2] à la caractérisation des diagrammes de phase aux hautes pressions et températures. [3] Cette dernière application a été l'une des principales motivations au développement des lasers à électrons libres (X-FEL), pour des applications d’astrophysique. La détection X est essentiellement liée à une variation locale de densité générée par le choc. Ici, une onde sonde plane ultrasonore (15 MHz), contra-propagative par rapport au choc, est émise par une barrette linéaire multi-éléments (x128). Cette onde est pour partie diffractée par la variation d’impédance acoustique engendrée par le choc. Cette diffraction est détectée par la même sonde multi-éléments. Un délai d’émission entre le choc et l’onde sonde permet d’imager la propagation du choc dans l’ensemble du volume de l’échantillon. Une détection résolue en temps et en espace, et permettant d’imager la propagation du choc dans le cœur de la structure, est ainsi obtenue. Des éléments théoriques, proposés par Burgers et Brillouin au milieu du 20ème siècle, et complétés par nos propres études théoriques et numériques, permettent une première interprétation des résultats expérimentaux. Abstract

A brain stroke could result in the loss of neuromotor and cognitive functions. Poststroke rehabilitation therapy is used to enable patients to regain some of their lost functionalities. However, traditional rehabilitation faces problems related to the availability of physiotherapists and specific equipment. In home therapy is more convenient for poststroke patients, but their motivation and adherence to their medical regime must be addressed properly. This article presents a game-based in-home rehabilitation system based on two different design approaches. The first design approach (A1) consists of selecting games or ludic activities and adapting them to meet the treatment object ives, the second design approach (A2) consists of selecting and virtualizing the physiotherapy exercises being used at the hospital. The results of the usability study showed that the system is usable. The game difficulty levels were similar for both approaches. The perception of fun was greater for A1 than for A2. Additionally, both approaches were considered motivating for the subjects. The usability study showed that the rehabilitation games reported in this research are usable and motivating. In future research, these games will be integrated into a neuromotor rehabilitation program for poststroke patients.

Abstract

An alternative method for solving constrained Multibody kinematics optimisation using a penalty method on constraints and a Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is proposed. It is compared to an optimisation resolution with hard kinematic constraints. These methods are applied to two pairs of experiments and models. The penalty method was at least 20 times faster than the optimisation resolution while keeping similar reconstruction errors and constraints violation. The potential of the method is shown to accurately solve the Multibody kinematics optimisation problem in a reasonable amount of time. A computational gain lies in implementing this resolution with a compiled and optimised program code. This study was conducted as part of the CapaCITIES project, funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR-19-CE19-0007).

International audience; Technological development offers new opportunities that could change design processes. The present study explores the possibilities of technologies like virtual reality and 3D scan in the furniture design process. For this purpose, a cocreation process with help of new technologies was carried out from initial ideation to 3D modelling. Each tool has been characterized in terms of user experience measured by questionnaire. This research validates a design process of furniture based on immersive technology and provide some recommendations for the implementation and improvement of this process.

Abstract

International audience; Truss lattice structures are intricate geometries, whose fabrication has recently been simplified by the development of Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies. These lightweight geometries present great volume densities and surface-to-occupancy ratios, which makes them ideal for thermal dissipation applications. This paper introduces a new framework for the parametric design of graded truss lattice structures that maximize passive cooling. It exploits the results of a semi-analytic formulation and analysis of the volume density and surface-to-occupancy ratio of state-of-the-art unit cells. In particular, it comes out that any truss lattice structure presents an optimal beam diameter over unit cell size ratio that maximizes its surface-to-occupancy value. This value and the ratio for which it is reached are identified and compared for the most common unit cells. The unit cell with the maximal surface-to-occupancy ratio is then identified, along with its set of optimal parameters, taking into account additive manufacturing constraints. The validation of this optimal geometry is performed by populating pre-defined design spaces of both academic and industrial case studies. An orientation strategy and a parametric gradation approach are also proposed to further optimize the generated heat sinks and maximize passive cooling. These results are very helpful to support decision making during the parametric design of a heat sink and to identify, a priori, the optimal unit cell, its control parameters, its orientation and its gradation strategy. The generated geometries are compared with traditional heat sink structures through static heat dissipation simulations, in order to demonstrate their interest.

International audience; L’os est la troisième localisation métastatique par ordre de fréquence après le foie et le poumon. Les métastases osseuses intéressent un cancer bronchopulmonaire sur trois et sont généralement ostéolytiques. Les métastases osseuses ostéolytiques sont à l’origine de fractures pathologiques du rachis et des os longs qui entraînent une restriction de la mobilité, le recours à la chirurgie et un risque de compression médullaire. Les métastases osseuses s’accompagnent d’une altération marquée de la qualité de vie et de surcoûts de santé importants. Au cours des dernières années, la RCP métastases osseuses ou RCP d’oncologie osseuse secondaire (RCP-OOS) a été mise en place dans le but de proposer, pour chaque patient, une prise en charge optimale des métastases osseuses en harmonie avec la prise en charge antitumorale. Dans cette revue, nous allons évoquer les différents aspects de la prise en charge des métastases osseuses regroupant le diagnostic et l’évaluation (TDM, scintigraphie osseuse au Technétium 99 m, TEP-FDG-(18F) et biopsie osseuse permettant le diagnostic moléculaire), les traitements osseux systémiques (acide zolédronique et dénosumab) et les traitements locaux (radiologie interventionnelle et radiothérapie). Les stratégies chirurgicales seront abordées dans un autre travail. À partir des référentiels Auvergne Rhône-Alpes en oncologie thoracique, édition 2017, nous présentons ici un arbre décisionnel pour aider les médecins dans la mise en place d’une stratégie personnalisée locomotrice pour chaque patient.

Abstract

International audience; Currently, the content-based retrieval is a problem of major interest in several different fields and, focusing on mechanical engineering, many approaches exist to compare and retrieve single CAD parts, to evaluate shape similarity, to extract features and to segment models. However, most of the proposed approaches do not take into account all the key characteristics of an assembly model, such as the relationships between its components, and the different levels according to which two assembly models can be considered similar, i.e. either globally, partially, or locally. For these reasons, the retrieval of CAD assembly models still faces challenges to fully satisfy designers’ expectations. The aim of this paper is to review the state-of-the-art of works addressing the CAD assembly model retrieval and to identify future challenges and possible research directions. Firstly, the paper highlights the user requirements for CAD assembly model retrieval and proposes a set of criteria for analyzing the available methods grouped into the following macro-categories: objective, assembly characterization, assembly descriptor, query specification and type of similarity. Secondly, it describes and characterizes the available methods by organizing them according to the adopted criteria. Finally, it discusses the open issues and future challenges.

Abstract

Meningiomas are mostly benign intradural tumors. Concerning the spine, some of them can extend outside the canal or even develop extradurally but their primary attach is often located in the vertebral canal. Here we present the case of an exceptional purely intraforaminal meningioma mimicking a neurogenic tumor, involving the vertebral artery and presenting with cervicobrachial neuralgia and slight motor deficit.

Abstract

Shoulder complex motion is a fundamental aspect of wheelchair locomotion. However, this motion is difficult to capture with skin marker methods due to soft tissue artefacts (Bourne et al., 2011). To overcome this issue, scapula locators (SL), which are external devices equipped with reflective markers and manually registered on the scapula, have been designed (Brochard et al. 2012) To track scapula motion, the SL first needs to be configured as to simultaneously palpate three anatomical landmarks of the scapula: the acromial angle, inferior angle and root of the scapular spine. For static poses, de Groot et al. (1997) and Jafarian Tangrood et al. (2020) studied the impact of palpation incertitude and inter-observer variability on scapula position reconstruction. They reported a scapula angle error in the range of 3.5 – 5 degrees. However, shoulder motions have not been studied yet and the angle error remains unpredictable. The issue raised in this study was to determine the impact of palpation errors of the scapula’s anatomical landmarks when configuring the SL on the reconstruction of a motion-tracking task. Four angles were studied through a constrained multibody kinematics optimization. The study used a Monte Carlo approach and a statistic analysis. This study was funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR-19-CE19-0007).

Abstract

This paper aims at proposing an automatic method to design and adjust simplified muscle paths of a musculoskeletal model. These muscle paths are composed of straight lines described by a limited set of fixed active via points and an optimization routine is developed to place these via points on the model in order to fit moment arms and musculotendon lengths input data. The method has been applied to a forearm musculoskeletal model extracted from the literature, using theoretical input data as an example. Results showed that for 75% of the muscle set, the relative root-mean-square error between literature theoretical data and the results from optimized muscle path was under 29.23% for moment arms and of 1.09% for musculotendon lengths. These results confirm the ability of the method to automatically generate computationally efficient muscle paths for musculoskeletal simulations. Using only via points lowers computational expense compared to paths exhibiting wrapping objects. A proper balance between computational time and anatomical realism should be found to help those models being interpreted by practitioners.

Abstract

International audience; Les concepteurs de machines industrielles doivent légalement évaluer les risques qu'elles présentent, ce qui passe obligatoirement par l'identification des phénomènes dangereux mis en jeu. Pour les aider dans cette tâche, le modèle EZID (Energy analysis for systematic haZard Identification during Design) a été imaginé. Celui-ci se base sur le postulat suivant : les phénomènes dangereux n'existent qu'en présence d'énergies. Dans ce cas, identifier les phénomènes dangereux revient à suivre les flux d'énergies entrants dans la machine, transmis d'un élément à l'autre, diffusés ou transformés. Si la pertinence de ce modèle a été montrée dans le cadre de la conception d'une machine spéciale mono tâche, qu'en est-il lorsqu'il est appliqué sur des machines flexibles répondant au paradigme de l'industrie du futur ? C'est à cette question que tente de répondre cet article. Pour ce faire, la méthode EZID a été appliquée à un cas réel de conception d'un îlot de fabrication flexible. Les résultats sont également comparés à ceux obtenus avec une méthode classique d'identification des phénomènes dangereux.

Abstract

Research in the field of Cultural Heritage is increasingly moving towards the creation of digital information systems, in which the geometric representation of an artifact is linked to some external information, through meaningful tags. The process of attributing additional and structured information to various elements in a given digital model is customarily identified with the term semantic annotation; the added contextual information is associated, for instance, to analysis and conservation terms. Starting from the existing literature, aim of this work is to discuss how semantic annotations are used, in digital architectural heritage models, to link the geometrical representation of an artefact with knowledge-related information. Most consolidated methods -such as traditional mapping on 2D media, are compared with more recent approaches making the most of 3D representation. Abstract

At present, optical sensors are being widely used to realize high quality control or reverse engineering of products, systems, buildings, environments or human bodies. Although the intrinsic characteristics of such breakthrough technologies may vary, ensuring complete acquisition relies on the definition of the optimal acquisition planning. To this end, the view planning problem (VPP) must be solved to automatically determine the optimal positions and/or trajectories of the acquisition devices to fully cover the part to be digitized. Such an automatization of the entire acquisition process is of considerably interest in the context of Industry 4.0. The aim of this paper is to review the state of the art works addressing the view planning problem and to identify the future challenges and possible research directions. First, the paper introduces a set of criteria to analyze the available methods, grouped into several macrocategories. The categories are presented and formalized to clearly understand the backbone and similarities of the grouped methods. Second, the paper describes and characterizes the available methods, based on their analysis according to the adopted criteria. The results of this extensive analysis clearly highlight the open issues and future challenges.

Abstract

International audience; This paper presents a new way of interaction between modelers and solvers to support the Product Development Process (PDP). The proposed approach extends the functionalities and the power of the solvers by taking into account procedural constraints. A procedural constraint requires calling a procedure or a function of the modeler. This procedure performs a series of actions and geometric computations in a certain order. The modeler calls the solver for solving a main problem, the solver calls the modeler's procedures, and similarly procedures of the modeler can call the solver for solving sub-problems. The features, speci-ficities, advantages and drawbacks of the proposed approach are presented and discussed. Several examples are also provided to illustrate this approach.

Abstract

International audience; Designing appealing products plays a key role in commercial success. Understanding the relationships between aesthetic properties and shape characteristics of a product can contribute to define user-friendly and interactive designing tools supporting the early design phases. This paper introduces a generic framework for mapping aesthetic properties to 3D free form shapes. The approach uses machine learning techniques to identify rules between the user-defined classifications of shapes and the geometric parameters of the underlying free form surfaces and to create an efficient classification model. The frameworkhas been set up and validated focusing on the flatness aesthetic property but is generic and can be applied to others. Several experiments have been conducted to understand if there is a consistency among people in the judgement of a specific aesthetic properties, if and to which extent the surrounding of the judged surface affects the perception consistency, and which are the surface geometric quantities influencing the perception. A graphic user interface has been designed to allow a fast classification of thousands of shapes automatically generated. The experiments have been conducted following a systematic methodology comparing two different approaches. The results confirm that the perception of flatness is commonly shared by the majority and the most relevant attributes have been identified. Additionally, it results that the surrounding information extension and context influence the perception of the flatness strengthening the classification consistency. The way those results can be used to design new interactive tools and to improve the product design process is discussed.

Abstract

To facilitate the transfer, storage and manipulation of intricate parts’ geometry whose fabrication has been made possible thanks to the rise of Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies, an encoding framework reducing the resulting file size has been developed. This approach leverages the fact that many AM parts are presenting repetition patterns, by encoding the repetition of similar geometry chunks. The decomposition of the part into chunks is a complex optimization problem, whose identification as a Weighted Exact Cover (WEC) problem allowed to develop a new heuristic algorithm dedicated to its fast resolution in linear time O ( n ) . The encoding strategy is implemented through a variation of the AMF file standard (for quick adoption of the format by existing software), and also through a new ad-hoc hybrid file format. To demonstrate the efficiency of the approach, the encryption of lattice and support structures through these two encoding strategies are compared to the results of several state-of-the-art encoding approaches. The way this data weight lightening strategy preserves the overall accuracy is discussed while considering different floating points encoding precisions with respect to the AM process requirements. This comparison exhibits file size reductions up to -84% in comparison with file sizes generated by state-of-the-art approaches. Not only the proposed repetition pattern encoding framework allows file size reductions, but it could also be exploited to optimize and speed-up some steps of the Product Development Process (PDP), including process planning phases.

Abstract

For many image clustering problems, replacing raw image data with features extracted by a pretrained convolutional neural network (CNN), leads to better clustering performance. However, the specific features extracted, and, by extension, the selected CNN architecture, can have a major impact on the clustering results. In practice, this crucial design choice is often decided arbitrarily due to the impossibility of using cross-validation with unsupervised learning problems. However, information contained in the different pretrained CNN architectures may be complementary, even when pretrained on the same data. To improve clustering performance, we rephrase the image clustering problem as a multi-view clustering (MVC) problem that considers multiple different pretrained feature extractors as different "views" of the same data. We then propose a multi-input neural network architecture that is trained end-to-end to solve the MVC problem effectively. Our experimental results, conducted on three different natural image datasets, show that: 1. using multiple pretrained CNNs jointly as feature extractors improves image clustering; 2. using an end-to-end approach improves MVC; and 3. combining both produces state-of-the-art results for the problem of image clustering., 13 pages, 3 figures, 4 tables. International audience; The emergence and improvement of Additive Manufacturing technologies allow the fabrication of complex shapes so far inconceivable. However, to produce those intricate geometries, support structures are required. Besides wasting unnecessary material, these structures are consuming valuable production and post-processing times. This paper proposes a new framework to optimize the geometry and topology of inner and outer support structures. Starting from a uniform lattice structure filling both the inner and outer areas to be supported, the approach removes a maximum number of beams so as to minimize the volume of the support. The geometry of the initial lattice structure is optimized at the beginning considering the possibilities of the manufacturing technologies. Then, the pruning of the structure is performed through a genetic algorithm, the parameters of which have been optimized through a design of experiments. The proposed approach is validated on several test cases of various geometries, containing both inner and outer parts to be supported. The generated support structures are compared to the ones obtained by commercial software.

Abstract

International audience; Sparse model identification by means of data is especially cumbersome if the sought dynamics live in a high dimensional space. This usually involves the need for large amount of data, unfeasible in such a high dimensional settings. This well-known phenomenon, coined as the curse of dimensionality, is here overcome by means of the use of separate representations. We present a technique based on the same principles of the Proper Generalized Decomposition that enables the identification of complex laws in the low-data limit. We provide examples on the performance of the technique in up to ten dimensions.

International audience; In recent times a growing interest has arose on the development of data-driven techniques to avoid the employ of phenomenological constitutive models. While it is true that, in general, data do not fit perfectly to existing models, and present deviations from the most popular ones, we believe that this does not justify (or, at least, not always) to abandon completely all the acquired knowledge on the constitutive characterization of materials. Instead, what we propose here is, by means of machine learning techniques, to develop correction to those popular models so as to minimize the errors in constitutive modeling.

Part 9: New Product Development; International audience; This paper presents a method for the retrieval and inspection of similar CAD assemblies in a database according to a user query. The method exploits the information on components’ shape and relationships (e.g. contacts and regular patterns) automatically extracted from the STEP descriptions of CAD assemblies and stored in the so-called Enriched Assembly Model. It evaluates the similarity among assemblies in terms of the components’ shapes and joints. A graphical interface highlighting the elements in the assembly similar to the query has been developed to facilitate the inspection of the obtained results.

International audience; When considering the Life Cycle Assessment of an energy-using product, usage is often modelled by average scenarios of use. One challenge of modelling is the availability of data to model the specific scenario in each case. This type of modelling requires the collection of data from several inputs. Also, it can be expensive and time-consuming to collect the specific data to improve the modelling of the use phase. This case study examines a truck refrigeration unit, for which the most environmentally impactful phase is the use phase. The energy consumption of the unit depends on usage. We highlight the importance of modelling a detailed usage scenario specific to each user and examine if it is enough to consider an average usage scenario. This study shows how a specific end-user Life Cycle Assessment and customized recommendation can contribute to improving the global environmental footprint. This is demonstrated by using the energy consumption life cycle inventory analysis of specific end-user behaviour based on experimental data and average scenarios. The results show how far we have to go in the collection of data.

Abstract

International audience; The introduction of digital technologies in the documentation methods for cultural heritage has helped to design new tools for the acquisition and management of information collected for multidisciplinary studies. These tools are beginning to emerge as the preferred media for describing, analyzing and understanding the objects of study. Existing solutions for semantic annotation on images, on 3D models or with 2D/3D hybrid methods still reveal themselves today insufficient to tackle the complex problem of annotating heritage artifacts. In this field, the semantic description of the studied objects must be able to rely on a rich and structured representation by on one hand making explicit the morphological complexity of the object and on the other hand by reflecting all aspects conveyed by the acquisitions of scientific imaging. This paper introduces an approach for conducting semantic annotations on 2D images (photography, scientific imaging ...) while facilitating the annotation work with an automatic propagation of these annotations between other correlated representations (2D or 3D) of the object. It is based on a spatial referencing method aiming at the establishment of a continuous 2D/3D projective relationship. The goal of the approach is to define an informative continuum between all phases of observation and description processes ranging from the acquisition of images and spatial data up to the building of semantically-enriched 3D representations. The idea is to insert semantics at all phases of 2D/3D data processing while ensuring a continuous correlation of annotations from a spatial, temporal and morphological point of view.

In this investigation, thermo-viscoplastic behaviour of austenitic steel AISI 304 has been characterised in tension under wide ranges of strain rate at room temperature. This metal possesses an elevated strain hardening rate and ductility which enhance its capability for absorbing energy under mechanical loading. It has been observed that the rate sensitivity of the material is independent of plastic strain. Moreover, it has been noticed that beyond a certain level of loading rate the flow stress of the material sharply increases. In agreement with experimental evidences reported in the literature, this behaviour is assumed to be caused by the drag deformation mode taking place at high strain rates. Based on such considerations, the thermo-viscoplastic behaviour of the material has been macroscopically modelled by means of the extended Rusinek-Klepaczko model to viscous drag effects. International audience; Cutting conditions determination may help to control design and manufacturing processes. The machining database is important in wood field, that is specific to each tool-machine. So for each kind of wood piece, particular machining conditions are needed to reach a properly surface roughness and a safe work. Couple Tool Material (COM) method is applied like a new methodology in wood working, centered in secondary wood processing industry, defining the working field of cutting tools taking in mind cutting parameters and limiting the number of experiments. Working perspectives are wide with the appearance of new cutting materials and high speed cutting processes, so the needs to compute the betters working conditions in wood cutting will be easier with COM data utilization.

Abstract

A two-dimensional theory for the analysis of multilayered piezoelectric plates is presented. The theory is based on a hybrid approach in which the continuity conditions for both mechanical and electric unknowns at layer interfaces, as well as the imposed conditions on the bounding surfaces and at the interfaces, are independently satisfied. Then, the piezoelectric boundary-value problem is stated using mechanical displacements and electrostatic potential, in conjunction with the coupled piezoelectric constitutive law. The proposed model is simple to use, incorporating only five independent generalized displacements and one or two independent generalized electrostatic potentials as unknowns. The number of electric unknowns depends on the number of layers and electric prescribed conditions. The accuracy of the proposed theory is assessed through investigation of significant problems, for which an exact three-dimensional solution is known from Heyliger: first, in dynamics, the free vibrations of five-layered piezoelectric plates and second, in statics, for three-layered plates with an imposed force density. Results obtained with our model compare very well with the exact three-dimensional theory.

Abstract

The present study concerns the modelling of the behaviour of pre-impregnated woven fabric during the forming process. The mechanical approach is based on a mesostructural model. It allows us to take into account the mechanical properties of fibres and resin and the various dominating mode of deformation of woven fabrics during the forming process. Shear and tensile tests of composite fabric specimens are proposed and compared with the experimental results in order to demonstrate the efficiency of our approach. Different numerical simulations and experiments of shaping process have been carried out in order to validate the proposed computational formulation. The various forming parameters examined have included the initial shape of fabric, fibre orientations and viscosity of resin.

Étant un enfant du « sérail des technologues », je ne pouvais que redécouvrir « notre Taylor », il n'était ni mathématicien en 1700, ni Général et même Président des États-Unis d'Amérique du Nord vers 1800, ni « Théologien Anglican » en 1650, ni philanthrope français dévoué aux Arts en 1850, ni autre, mais il était l'Ingénieur dit « efficace » dans une Amérique du Nord en plein essor industriel de l'automobile et de ses dérivés, vers 1890, avec ses relents de fordisme.Il m'incombe donc la tâche périlleuse d'essayer de relier une évolution des pratiques industrielles en liaison avec le développement très dynamique (et même trop envahissant) de l'informatique. Abstract

In the present work, a new series of imidazo[1,2- a ]pyrimidine Schiff base derivatives have been obtained using an easy and conventional synthetic route. The synthesized compounds were spectroscopically characterized using 1 H, 13 C NMR, LC-MS(ESI), and FT-IR techniques. Green metric calculations indicate adherence to several green chemistry principles. The energy of Frontier Molecular Orbitals (FMO), Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP), Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM), and Reduced Density Gradient (RDG) were determined by the Density Functional Theory (DFT) method at B3LYP/6-31 G (d, p) as the basis set. Moreover, molecular docking studies targeting the human ACE2 and the spike, key entrance proteins of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 were carried out along with hACE2 natural ligand Angiotensin II, the MLN-4760 inhibitor as well as the Cannabidiolic Acid CBDA which has been demonstrated to bind to the spike protein and block cell entry. The molecular modeling results showed auspicious results in terms of binding affinity as the top-scoring compound exhibited a remarkable affinity (-9.1 and -7.3 kcal/mol) to the ACE2 and spike protein respectively compared to CBDA (-5.7 kcal/mol), the MLN-4760 inhibitor (-7.3 kcal/mol), and angiotensin II (-9.2 kcal/mol). These findings suggest that the synthesized compounds may potentially act as effective entrance inhibitors, preventing the SARS-CoV-2 infection of human cells. 50. Molecular Modeling Targeting the ACE2 Receptor with Cannabis sativa 's Active Ingredients for Antiviral Drug Discovery against SARS-CoV-2 Infections.

Abstract

The emergence of a novel coronavirus that later on rendered a global pandemic, caused desperation within the communities and drove increased interest in exploring medicinal plant-based therapeutics to treat and prevent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus infections. Many medicinal plants have been reported to have antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects that hinder, cure, or ease the symptoms of COVID-19 infection. This exploratory study seeks to dock the active components of Cannabis sativa , a natural plant with several pharmacological and biological properties, with the angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE2) receptor. A total of 3 C. sativa active components have been found to bind to the ACE2 protein active site and could inhibit spike binding, although they do not compete directly with the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2. 6-Prenylapigenin, cannabivarin (CBN-C3), and Δ8-tetrahydrocannabinolic acid-A (Δ8-THCA) have a greater affinity (-8.3, -8.3, and -8.0 kcal/mol, respectively) and satisfactory interaction with ACE2 than its inhibitor MLN-4760 (-7.1 kcal/mol). These potential drugs with higher affinity for the ACE2 receptor and adequate absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) values are candidates for treating or preventing SARS-CoV-2 infections.
