A 20. szazad első evtizede, pontosabban az 1900-tol 1912-ig tarto időszak Ujvidek varostortenete es fejlődestortenete szempontjabol feltaratlan, s ebből adodoan szamos torteneti pontatlansagot generalo korszak. E rovid periodus azonban a modern varossa valas időszakanak kezdete is, amely megteremtette az igenyt a korszerű varosszabalyozasra es az infrastruktura bevezetesere, es kihatott az Osztrak–Magyar Monarchia osszeomlasat kovető varosrendezesi megoldasokra es fejlesztesre is. Az Ujvidekkel foglalkozo szakirodalom eddig nem ismerte azokat a terveket, amelyek bemutatasra es elemzesre kerulnek, valamint az ismert adatokat felreertelmezte, s ennek alapjan mar tobb mint fel evszazada ugyanazok a pontatlansagok ismetlődnek. A munka a modern varossa valas tortenetet dolgozza fel: bemutatja es elemzi a Paloczi Antal es Szesztay Laszlo nevehez fűződő, eddig ismeretlen terveket, tovabba egyeb archiv anyagok es a korabeli sajto altal feltarja azt az időszakot, amely jelentősen kihatott a varos fejlődestortenetenek kovetkező fel evszazadara. Szamos varostervezesi megoldas szinte teljesen megegyezik az elődok elkepzeleseivel, bar minderre nem talalunk konkret utalast az 1920–1965 kozotti időszakban. A tervek osszehasonlitasa es elemzese bizonyitek minderre, es kijelenthetjuk, hogy Ujvidek modern szerkezetenek tervet mar a 20. szazad elejen megrajzoltak, azonban a megvalositas mintegy fel evszazadot kesett. | The first decade of the 20 th century, more precisely from 1900 to 1912, is an unexplored era in urban history and development history of Novi Sad, and consequently a period of historical inaccuracy. However, this short period is also the beginning of the modern urbanisation, which has created a need for modern town regulation and infrastructure, and has also affected urban development directions following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Until now the literature dealing with urban history of Novi Sad did not know the plans that were presented and analyzed in the study, misinterpreted the known data, and thus for more than half a century, the same inaccuracies were repeated. The paper deals with the history of urban modernisation by presenting and analyzing previously unknown plans that are associated with Antal Paloczi and Laszlo Szesztay, and presents the period that had a significant impact on the next half century of the town’s development history by other archive materials and the contemporary press. Since many urban planning solutions were almost the same as those of the predecessors, although there is no specific reference to this in the period 1920–1965. However, the comparison and analysis of the plans are proof of these matches, and we can state that the design of Novi Sad’s modern structure was already drawn up at the beginning of the 20 th century, but its implementation was about half a century late.

Climate change has a dual implication on the built environment: on one hand human settlements and buildings are vulnerable to the effects of changing climate and on the other hand the building sector has a significant climate change mitigation potential. The relevant sustainable development and building policies as well as the building design, construction and maintenance strategies should jointly respond both to adaptation to and mitigation of climate change. What should city developers focus on in order to plan a sustainable and safe city in a changing climate? This paper provides answers to this question, presenting a bottom-up methodology based on a generalized building typology of the residential building stock in order to estimate the mitigation potential and vulnerability of the residential sector. During the research, a case study has been implemented in Hungary to assess the structural impacts and vulnerability on the roof, particularly with respect to the wind load and to estimate the potential decrease of CO2 emission through refurbishment. Through the case study the paper highlights the most problematic areas of the city both from vulnerability and mitigation point of view where the attention of the city developers should be turned.
