Our aim is to investigate a relationship between trichogram findings and demographic/ clinical features in psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis patients. Trichogram method may be instructive in differentiation of these two diseases and may reduce the necessity of biopsy in presence of specific trichogram findings. Material and Methods: Thirty one psoriasis and 26 seborrheic dermatitis patients and 21 healthy controls were included in the study. Hairs were counted and classified as anagen, telogen, catagen and dysplastic hair. Results: In psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis patients, a statistically significant increase was determined in telogen and dysplastic hair rates both in the areas with or without lesions comparing to healthy control group. Whereas no significant difference in terms of catagen hair rate was determined in all three groups. Anagen hair rates were significantly decreased in psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis patient groups comparing to control group. When trichogram findings of psoriasis patients' areas with and without lesion; in areas with lesion, an increase was determined in dysplastic and telogen hair rate and a decrease was determined in catagen and anagen hair rates comparing to areas without lesion. These differences were statistically significant. When trichogram findings of seborrheic dermatitis patients' areas with and without lesion; in areas with lesion an increase was determined in dysplastic hair rate, a decrease was determined in anagen hair rate. While these differences were found statistically significant, no significant difference was found in catagen and telogen hair rates. Conclusion: In psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis patients' scalp involvement, increased telogen and dysplastic hair rates and decreased anagen hair rates are seen in terms of trichogram findings comparing to healthy control groups. There was no statistically significant difference between psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. As a result of this study psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis cause a decrease in the anagen/ telogen rate and both increase the dysplastic hair count. © 2017 by Tör ki ye Klinikleri.

Zinc ,Anemia, iron-deficiency ,Alopecia ,Copper - Abstract
Diffuse hair loss depends on many chemicals, drugs, systemic/cutaneous diseases, emotional stres and hormonal/nutritional factors. Although a part of these associations has been demonstrated in detail, many suspected factors need to be investigated. The aim of this study is to investigate the laboratory findings and associating diseases in diffuse hair loss patients, which have a good prognosis when the underlying factors can be detected and eliminated. One hundred female diffuse hair loss patients were investigated in the view of related diseases and findings retrospectively, between January 2000-April 2007 in Gazi and Yeditepe University Hospital Dermatology clinics. Copper (n=100), zinc (n=100), ferritine (n=100), serum iron (n= 68), total blood count (n= 100), free T3 (n=100), free T4 (n=100), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) (n=100), erhytrosyte sedimentation rate (n= 64), vitamine B12 (n=100) and folic acide (n=100) were the biochemical and haematologic investigations tested in the patient population. 4% copper, 29% zinc, 36% ferritine and 22% iron deficiency were detected with biochemical and hematological investigations. In the anemic patients-which are constituting the 10% of patients-the only etiological factor was iron deficiency. 5 patients had associating helicobacter pylori (+) gastritis, 15 patients had psychiatric disorders, 18 patients had thyroid function disorders and euthyroid guatr. We have evaluated the laboratory results and associating diseases in our study and discussed the literature related with these results. We detected copper, zinc and thyroid function defects in a low rate, in this study. This result warns us about not to ask for these laboratory tests routinly. We should ask these laboratory tests when there is a clinical suspicion or resistance to treatments. In addition, its been concluded that investigating serum ferritine level and total blood count is usefull in this patient population.

Lupus erythematosus profundus is grouped within the chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus and linear form of it has been rarely reported. Lesions are described as subcutaneous nodules and plaques with a distinctive distribution. We report a 16 years old girl with lupus erythematosus profundus in whom the lesions were at the upper extremity and showed a linear confi guration following the lines of Blaschko. We also review the previous reported 12 cases of linear lupus erythematosus profundus in the literature. Patients with linear lupus erythematosus profundus had different features of age, racial characteristics and distribution of lesions when compared with lupus erythematosus profundus. © 2012 OMU All rights reserved.

parasitic diseases ,Onychomycosis ,Tinea unguinum ,Native preparation ,Histopathological investigation ,Standard koh preparation ,Koh preparation for 24 hours - Abstract
Objective: Standard KOH preparation and fungal culture are the most preferred methods used for the diagnosis of onychomycosis. Alternatively used methods are histopathological examination and KOH preparation for 24 hours. Our aim was to assess the sensitivity of standard KOH preparation, KOH preparation for 24 hours, fungal culture and histopathological examination for the diagnosis of onychomycosis. Material and Methods: Nail samples were taken from 58 patients with a clinical suspicion of onychomycosis. Standard KOH preparation, KOH preparation for 24 hours, fungal culture and histopathological examination were searched for presence of fungal elements. Results: Onychomycosis was diagnosed in 46 samples. Samples of 8 patients were negative by all methods. Fungal elements were observed by standard KOH preparation in 27 patients (50%), by KOH preparation for 24 hours in 37 patients (68.5%), by culture method in 14 patients (25.9%) and by histopathological examination in 40 (74.1%) patients. The sensitivity values of these methods were 58%, 80.4%, 30.4%, and 87% respectively. Conclusion: This study showed that histopathological examination and KOH preparation for 24 hours methods are more sensitive than the KOH preparation and fungal culture.

- Abstract
To analyze the effect of possible risk factors, including breastfeeding, on the development of childhood-onset psoriasis, a multicenter case-control study with prospective collection of data was performed. Using a standard questionnaire, personal and specific variables including family history of psoriasis, maternal and environmental tobacco smoke exposure, body mass index (BMI), exclusive and partial breastfeeding for at least 3 and 12 months, cow's milk intake before 1 year, birth delivery method, and stressful life events were collected during 2009 from 537 patients with psoriasis and 511 controls younger than 18. Overall, patients more frequently reported exposure to environmental tobacco smoke at home and stressful life events in the year preceding the diagnosis than controls. The odds ratios (OR) for smoking and stressful life events were 2.90 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.27-3.78) and 2.94 (95% CI = 2.28-3.79), respectively. In addition, children with psoriasis were more likely to have a higher BMI (>26) than controls (OR = 2.52; 95% CI = 1.42-4.49). High BMI, environmental tobacco smoke exposure at home, and stressful life events may influence the development of pediatric psoriasis. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Acneiform eruption ,Cetuximab ,Chemotherapy ,Side effect ,Irinotecan ,Colorectal cancer - Abstract
Cetuximab, is an IgG1 chimeric monoclonal antibody type of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). It is most commonly prescribed for metastatic colorectal cancer, administered alone or in combination with irinotecan-based chemotherapy regimens (Lee et al., 2008; Segaert et al., 2005; Segaert and Cutsem 2005; Scope et al., 2009). Acneiform eruption is the most common adverse effect with 80% of incidence (Segaert and Cutsem 2005; Lee et al., 2008). We report two cases of severe acneiform eruption induced by cetuximab with metastatic colorectal cancer. © 2010 OMU All rights reserved.

creatine phosphokinase ,isotretinoin ,Acne vulgaris ,myopathy - Abstract
Karlikaya, Geysu/0000-0002-5021-1880 WOS: 000261497700005 Background and Design: It has been known that isotretinoin may cause rabdomyolysis besides its many side affects. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effect of isotretinoin therapy with a cumulative dose of 120 mg/kg on serum creatine phosphokinase levels and muscle physiology in patients with acne vulgaris. Material and Method: A total of 66 patients with severe acne vulgaris were enrolled in the study and treated with isotretinoin twice daily at the dose of 0.6-0.8 mg/kg/day and for approximately 6.1 +/- 0.54 (3-7) months. Thirty-seven female (71.2%) and 15 male (28.8%) patients completed the study. The change in serum creatine kinase levels was measured before and monthly during the treatment course. Electromyography was performed in patients with a high serum CPK level and myalgia for the exclusion myopathy. All patients were evaluated with their laboratory findings and they were questioned for exercise habits and intramuscular injections. Results: The mean age and body weight was 24.6 +/- 6.1 years and 62.3 +/- 11.9 kg respectively. We have detected 7 patients having elevated (13.5%) serum CPK levels. Three of them had associating myalgia and muscle tenderness. The evaluation of these patients with EMG revealed no myopathy sign. (CPK values = 1000, 880,726 respectively) Only one patient with an elevated serum CPK was performing exercise. There was no history of intramuscular injection history in any of these patients. Conclusion: The use of standard isotretinoin therapy appears to have a relation with marked hyperCKemia with or without muscle-related complaints. Isotretinoin could have a potentializing effect on other myotoxicity inducers (drugs, infection, fever, muscular exertion). Although this phenomenon in isotretinoin-treated patients with acne appears to be validated as benign in nature, the clinicians must keep this side affect in mind and should monitorize serum CPK levels since there are some patients who had severe or persistent signs.
