- Abstract
Background: Alcohol use disorders are prevalent mental disorders with significant health implications. Epigenetic alterations may play a role in their pathogenesis, as DNA methylation at several genes has been associated with these disorders. We have previously shown that methylation in the DLGAP2 gene, coding for a synaptic density protein, is associated with alcohol dependence. In this study, we aimed to examine the association between DLGAP2 methylation and treatment response among patients undergoing acamprosate treatment. Methods: 102 patients under acamprosate treatment were included. DNA methylation analysis at DLGAP2 was performed by bisulfite pyrosequencing at the start and after 3 -month treatment. Treatment outcomes were having a relapse during the treatment and severity of craving at the end of three months. Cox proportional hazard and linear regression models were performed. Results: Patients whose methylation levels were decreased during the treatment showed an increased risk for relapse within three months in comparison to the ones without methylation change (hazard ratio [HR]=2.44; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.04, 5.73; p=0.04). For the same group, a positive association for the severity of craving was observed, yet statistical significance was not reached (beta=2.97; 95% CI= -0.41, 6.34; p=0.08). Conclusion: We demonstrate that patients whose DLGAP2 methylation levels decrease during acamprosate treatment are more likely to relapse compared to the ones without changes. This is in line with our previous findings showing that DLGAP2 methylation is lower in alcohol dependent subjects compared to controls, and might suggest a role for changes in DLGAP2 methylation in treatment response.

- Abstract
It is well known that abnormal reward processing is a characteristic feature of various psychopathologies including schizophrenia. Reduced reward anticipation has been suggested as a core symptom of schizophrenia. The Monetary Incentive Delay Task (MID) is frequently used to detect reward anticipation. The present study aims to evaluate the amplitude and latency of event-related potential (ERP) P300 in patients with schizophrenia (SCH) compared to healthy controls during the MID task. Twenty patients with SCH and 21 demographically matched healthy controls (HC) were included in the study. ERP P300 amplitude and latency values were compared between groups using an MID task in which reward and loss cues were presented. Relations between P300 and clinical facets were investigated in the patient group. SCH group had enhanced mean P300 amplitudes and delayed peak latency in the punishment condition compared with HC. These higher responses were also associated with negative symptoms. SCH group showed altered reward processing as being more sensitive to loss of reward conditions as firstly evidenced by electrophysiological methods, possibly due to abnormality in various systems including social withdrawal, social defeat, and behavioral inhibition system.

The European Union (EU) aims to reduce overall carbon dioxide emissions at least 80% by 2050. For road transport, this involves at least a 95% reduction target for 2050, compared to 1990 levels. Most commentators believe that achieving this target requires a transition from internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) to battery electric vehicles (BEVs). However, such transition demands fundamental changes in the whole automotive value chain. This research argues that the required changes in the automotive value chain might be achieved by i) an industrial structure enabling the mass production of BEVs ii) understanding and supporting the development of newcomers that are in the majority of micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in emerging BEV sector and iii) use of target instruments by governments to accelerate the development of BEV value chain and industrial structure. Based on this strategy, three stage study was performed. This involved i) exploring the present BEV industry structure and compatible future structure ii) exploring the approach of SMEs to emerging BEV sector to understand and support these actors and iii) developing and trialling a novel framework enabling the pre-implementation analysis of putative policy measures. In each stage of the research, different methodologies were used. This included an analysis of supply chain for BEVs in North-West Europe (NWE); semi-structured in-depth interviews with SMEs throughout NWE and development and application of an “adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system” (ANFIS) based framework. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by investigating the implications of BEVs on the supply chains and exploring what competences and capacities might be needed for mass production of BEVs in Europe. Secondly, this research proposed that economic growth and emission reduction targets established in the existing economic strategy of the EU (Europe 2020 strategy) might be achieved, and a significant contribution to achieve the 2050 emission reduction target might be made by supporting SME development. Support areas for SMEs were also identified. Lastly, to support national governments in making informed decisions, an ANFIS framework providing an ex-ante impact of various innovation decisions was offered.

GENDER nonconformity , *AUTISM spectrum disorders , *LOGISTIC regression analysis , *GENDER dysphoria , *PSYCHOLOGICAL distress , *AUTISTIC children - Abstract
Background: Childhood gender nonconformity is related to psychological distress and behavioral difficulties. Similarly, there is evidence for a link between gender nonconformity, or gender dysphoria in some studies, and autism spectrum disorder and related traits. Our knowledge on those associations mostly originates from clinical populations, which might lead to overestimation. Thus, this study aimed to assess associations between gender nonconformity and behavioral difficulties in a population-based study. Methods: In the Swedish Environmental Longitudinal, Mother and Child, Asthma and Allergy (SELMA) study, cross-sectional associations between gender-specific play behavior and behavioral outcomes and autistic traits were investigated among 718 children at 7-years of age. Play behavior was measured using the Preschool Activities Inventory; behavioral outcomes and autistic traits were measured with the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire and the Social Responsiveness Scale, respectively. Linear and logistic regression analyses were performed. Results: Higher composite play behavior scores (indicating either increased masculine or decreased feminine play behavior) were associated with increased autistic trait scores in girls (β = 0.13; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.00, 0.26). Furthermore, higher composite scores were shown to be associated with behavioral difficulties in both girls (β = 0.11; 95% CI = 0.04, 0.18) and boys (β = 0.10; 95% CI = 0.02, 0.19). Additionally, higher feminine scores were related with increased problems in peer relationships in boys (β = 0.04; 95% CI = 0.00, 0.07). Conclusions: This study suggests a link between gender nonconforming play behavior and autistic traits as well as behavioral difficulties among children in a non-clinical population, which calls attention to the necessity of supporting children with gender nonconformity from early ages. Abnormal reward processing and psychomotor slowing are well‐known in schizophrenia (SZ). As a slow frontocentral potential, contingent negative variation (CNV) is associated with anticipatory attention, motivation and motor planning. The present study aims to evaluate the early and late amplitude and latencies of CNV in patients with SZ compared to healthy controls during a reward processing task and to show its association with clinical symptoms. We recruited 21 patients with SZ and 22 healthy controls to compare early and late CNV amplitude and latency values during a Monetary Incentive Delay (MID) Task between groups. Patients' symptom severity, levels of negative symptoms and depressive symptoms were assessed. Clinical features of the patients were further examined for their relation with CNV components. In conclusion, we found decreased early CNV amplitudes in SZ during the reward condition. They also displayed diminished and shortened late CNV responses for incentive cues, specifically at the central location. Furthermore, early CNV amplitudes exhibited a significant correlation with positive symptoms. Both CNV latencies were linked with medication dosage and the behavioural outcomes of the MID task. We revealed that early and late CNV exhibit different functions in neurophysiology and correspond to various facets of the deficits observed in patients. Our findings also emphasized that slow cortical potentials are indicative of deficient motivational processes as well as impaired reaction preparation in SZ. To gain a deeper understanding of the cognitive and motor impairments associated with psychosis, future studies must compare the effects of CNV in the early and late phases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Introduction: Even though the effect of inflammation on pathogenesis of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is known, information regarding the underlying mechanisms are yet to be revealed. The NLRP3 inflammasome complex is an important component of the innate immune system that initiates and mediates inflammatory response to a variety of stimuli. This study aims to inquire into a possible association between NLRP3 inflammasome complex and OCD. Methods: This case-control study included 103 participants (51 cases with OCD and 52 healthy controls). All participants were evaluated with the Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale, Hamilton Depression Scale, and Hewitt Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. RNA and proteins were extracted from peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Expression of NLRP3 inflammasome components were determined using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blotting. Levels of Serum IL-1beta and IL-18 cytokine were determined by ELISA. Results: NEK7 and CASP1 mRNA levels were significantly higher in OCD patients, compared to controls. Pro-caspase-1 protein levels were elevated, as well. Regression analysis showed that NEK7 mRNA and procaspase-1 protein levels can differentiate OCD and healthy control groups. Conclusion: Our results provide insight into the molecular alterations that could explain the inflammation-OCD association.

- Abstract
INTRODUCTION: There has been a drastic increase in the reported number of people seeking help for gender dysphoria in many countries over the last two decades. Yet, our knowledge of gender dysphoria and related outcomes is restricted due to the lack of high-quality studies employing comprehensive approaches. This longitudinal study aims to enhance our knowledge of gender dysphoria; different aspects will be scrutinised, focusing primarily on the psychosocial and mental health outcomes, prognostic markers and, secondarily, on the underlying mechanisms for its origin. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The Swedish Gender Dysphoria Study is an ongoing multicentre longitudinal cohort study with 501 registered participants with gender dysphoria who are 15 years old or older. Participants at different phases of their clinical evaluation process can enter the study, and the expected follow-up duration is three years. The study also includes a comparison group of 458 age- and county-matched individuals without gender dysphoria. Data on the core outcomes of the study, which are gender incongruence and experienced gender dysphoria, body satisfaction and satisfaction with gender-affirming treatments, as well as other relevant outcomes, including mental health, social functioning and life satisfaction, are collected via web surveys. Two different research visits, before and after starting on gender-affirming hormonal treatment (if applicable), are planned to collect respective biological and cognitive measures. Data analysis will be performed using appropriate biostatistical methods. A power analysis showed that the current sample size is big enough to analyse continuous and categorical outcomes, and participant recruitment will continue until December 2022. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The ethical permission for this study was obtained from the Local Ethical Review Board in Uppsala, Sweden. Results of the study will be presented at national and international conferences and published in peer

Background: Cerebrovascular disease is regarded as a potential cause of late-life depression. Yet, evidence for associations of neuroimaging markers of vascular brain disease with depressive symptoms is inconclusive. We examined the associations of neuroimaging markers and depressive symptoms in a large population-based study of middle-aged and elderly persons over time. Methods: A total of 4943 participants (mean age = 64.6 ± 11.1 years, 55.7% women) from the Rotterdam Study were included. At baseline, total brain volume, gray matter volume, white matter volume, white matter hyperintensities volume, cortical infarcts, lacunar infarcts, microbleeds, white matter fractional anisotropy, and mean diffusivity (MD) were measured with a brain MRI (1.5T). Depressive symptoms were assessed twice with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale (median follow-up time: 5.5 years, IQR = 0.9). To assess temporal associations of neuroimaging markers and depressive symptoms, linear mixed models were used. Results: A smaller total brain volume (β = −0.107, 95% CI −0.192 to −0.022), larger white matter hyperintensities volume (β = 0.047, 95% CI 0.010–0.084), presence of cortical infarcts (β = 0.194, 95% CI 0.047–0.341), and higher MD levels (β = 0.060, 95% CI 0.022–0.098) were cross-sectionally associated with more depressive symptoms. Longitudinal analyses showed that small total brain volume (β = −0.091, 95% CI −0.167 to −0.015) and presence of cortical infarcts (β = 0.168, 95% CI 0.022–0.314) were associated with increasing depressive symptoms over time. After stratification on age, effect sizes were more pronounced at older ages. Conclusions: Neuroimaging markers of white matter microstructural damage were associated with depressive symptoms longitudinally in this study of middle-aged and elderly persons. These associations were more pronounced at older ages, providing evidence for the role of white matter structure in late-life depressive symptomatology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Introduction: Brain development is highly dependent on hormonal regulation. Exposure to chemicals disrupting endocrine signaling has been associated with neurodevelopmental impairment. This raises concern about exposure to the suspected thousands of endocrine disruptors, and has resulted in efforts to improve regulation of these chemicals. Yet, the causal links between endocrine disruption and developmental neurotoxicity, which would be required for regulatory action, are still largely missing. Areas covered: In this review, we illustrate the importance of two endocrine systems, thyroid hormone and retinoic acid pathways, for neurodevelopment. We place special emphasis on TH and RA synthesis, metabolism, and how endocrine disrupting chemicals known or suspected to affect these systems are associated with developmental neurotoxicity. Expert opinion: While it is clear that neurodevelopment is dependent on proper hormonal functioning, and evidence is increasing for developmental neurotoxicity induced by endocrine disrupting chemicals, this is not grasped by current chemical testing. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop test methods detecting endocrine disruption in the context of neurodevelopment. Key to this development is further mechanistic insights on the involvement of endocrine signaling in neurodevelopment as well as increased support to develop and validate new test methods for the regulatory context.

Galileo is the EU´s GNSS providing accurate timing and positioning information. As GNSS timing and synchronisation is at the core of several critical infrastructures which currently rely on GPS in Europe, using Galileo for time synchronisation is a strategic objective for the EU. Therefore, a business concept for a Galileo based time synchronisation service was developed and evaluated. In this regard, firstly, a service concept for users requiring the accurate synchronisation of remote devices was proposed and assessed. Next, the business logic of the concept was developed and refined by implementing the business model canvas methodology. Finally, a cost-benefit analysis was conducted to determine the conditions under which the service could be financially sustainable. It was found that the service might be both technically feasible and commercially viable. However, the number of service providers in the European market depends on pricing scheme as well as the market penetration rates.

Dünya Savaşı, Komünizm, Realizm When the first relations between the Republic of Turkey and the Soviet Union are evaluated with the conditions of the period, the term `mandatory` appears to be the most appropriate expression. With its establishment in Turkey's foreign policy, the Soviet Union was seen as the main axis point, in 1936, the Montreux Straits Convention and bilateral relations were first broken due to the upcoming war. The German-Soviet alliance in The Second World War had the beginning of a period of insecurity in bilateral relations, which was based on the so-called cold shower effect on Turkey. The balance has changed with the German-Soviet war, which the Allied states inevitably consider. Relations with allies, including Soviet Russia, continue dissdain due to Turkey's policy of `active neutrality` on non-entry into the war, while during the war and after the war, bilateral relations were greatly damaged by Soviet Russia's territorial claim over Turkey and its claim to the Straits. The bilateral relations that began as an alliance have been turned into hostilities and have been wounded that are difficult to repair. The reason why this thesis examined the Stalin period as the term limit was that the period of alliance and friendship began with Stalin and was a product of Stalin's policies as the sole leader from tension to breakup. After Stalin's death, the Soviet Union's refusal to claim the most fundamental problems in bilateral relations, land demand, and its claim to the straits, makes it important to examine the Turkish and Soviet policies pursued during the Stalin era. In this thesis study, the reflections of realism, the most obvious theory of the period, on Turkish foreign policy, were examined and in this context, the fields of implementation of this theory were explained. Keywords: Soviet Union, Stalin, Straits, 2.World War II, Communism, Realism 111

The European Union (EU) aimsto reduce overall CO2 emissions at least 80% by 2050. For roadtransport, this involves at least a 95% reduction target for 2050, compared to1990 levels. Most commentators argue that achieving this target requires atransition from internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) to battery electricvehicles (BEVs). Nevertheless, this entails substantial changes in theautomotive value chain, which will not be motivated by single factors. Tosupport the automotive sector responding the aforementioned target, the factorslimiting the new technology in the sector was analyzed and challenged byapplying the socio-technical transition theory to the automotive system andexamining the existing requirements of critical actors. It was found that atechnical change might be possible with an industrial structure favoring theproduction and consumption of BEVs. However, to achieve that, BEV technologiesthat are developed in niches by established companies and new entrants need tobe further developed and prescriptive policy instruments need to be implementedin a timely manner. Some helpful strategies were also identified and discussedfor satisfying the needs of governments, carmakers and small and medium sizedenterprises.

SUMMARY Determining optimal lime requirement for soils that have acidic pH conditions as a result of acidic fertilizer use and leaching was investigated. For this purpose soil samples were collected from the upper 20 cm soil depth in tea planted areas. As lime material, CaO, MgO and CaO+MgO were used at 6 different lime doses (0 % 0, 25 %, 50 %,75 %, 100 % and 150 %) after determining lime requirement of soil samples. The experiment as design was completely randomly design The results of the study indicated that soil pH increased with increasing rate of lime application. While the exchangeable Ca+Mg also increased with lime application, excahangeable Al+H and K and plant available Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu decreased. Available P increased up to 75 % of lime requirement but decreased with increasing doses. Significant statistical relationship were determined between yield parameters such as plant height, leaf number, total dry matter and nutrition contents and lime doses and type of lime materials. As a result of this study it was concluded that there was no significantly difference among the types of lime, and by evaluating plant growth, total dry matter content and nutrient contents of plant samples, it was concluded that the most suitable lime dose was about the 25 % and 50% of lime requirement for all types of lime material. 68

- Abstract
Secondly, this research proposed that economic growth and emission reduction targets established in the existing economic strategy of the EU (Europe 2020 strategy) might be achieved, and a significant contribution

SCH group showed altered reward processing as being more sensitive to loss of reward conditions as firstly evidenced by electrophysiological methods, possibly due to abnormality in various systems including social withdrawal, social defeat, and behavioral inhibition system., Competing Interests: Declaration of Conflicting InterestsThe authors declared no potential conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article.

In this study, we aimed to examine the association between DLGAP2 methylation and treatment response among patients undergoing acamprosate treatment., Methods: 102 patients under acamprosate treatment were included. DNA methylation analysis at DLGAP2 was performed by bisulfite pyrosequencing at the start and after 3-month treatment. Treatment outcomes were having a relapse during the treatment and severity of craving at the end of three months. Cox proportional hazard and linear regression models were performed., Results: Patients whose methylation levels were decreased during the treatment showed an increased risk for relapse within three months in comparison to the ones without methylation change (hazard ratio [HR]=2.44; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.04, 5.73; p=0.04). For the same group, a positive association for the severity of craving was observed, yet statistical significance was not reached (β=2.97; 95% CI=-0.41, 6.34; p=0.08)., Conclusion: We demonstrate that patients whose DLGAP2 methylation levels decrease during acamprosate treatment are more likely to relapse compared to the ones without changes. This is in line with our previous findings showing that DLGAP2 methylation is lower in alcohol dependent subjects compared to controls, and might suggest a role for changes in DLGAP2 methylation in treatment response., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest None., (Copyright © 2024 The Authors.
This study aims to inquire into a possible association between NLRP3 inflammasome complex and OCD., Methods: This case-control study included 103 participants (51 cases with OCD and 52 healthy controls). Levels of Serum IL-1beta and IL-18 cytokine were determined by ELISA., Results: NEK7 and CASP1 mRNA levels were significantly higher in OCD patients, compared to controls. Pro-caspase-1 protein levels were elevated, as well. Regression analysis showed that NEK7 mRNA and pro-caspase-1 protein levels can differentiate OCD and healthy control groups., Conclusion: Our results provide insight into the molecular alterations that could explain the inflammation-OCD association., Competing Interests: Conflict of interest: The authors declared that there is no conflict of interest., (Copyright: © 2023 Turkish Neuropsychiatric Society.)
