Aims:Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common condition in women and might affect women’s physical and psychological health in different aspects. This study evaluated the effects of UI on the quality of life (QoL) and sexual function in women of reproductive age. Methods:In this prospective case-control study, sexually active and premenopausal women who were admitted to the urogynecology outpatient clinic of our hospital with UI were included. Women without UI complaints were selected for the control group. All the women were asked to fill the Urogenital Distress Inventory-6 (UDI-6), the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-7 (IIQ-7), and Pelvic Organ Prolapse/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Function Questionnaire-12 (PISQ-12).Results:There were 64 women [median age: 42 (12)] in the UI group and 58 women [median age: 40 (11)] in the control group. Although the median age was similar in the two groups, the UI group had significantly more gravidas [3 (1) vs. 2 (1); p

Abstract Objective To evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding complementary and alternative medicine methods of patients who were admitted to gynecology outpatient clinics. Methods In the present survey, a questionnaire on complementary and alternative medicine practices was applied on 1,000 women (ages between 18 and 83 years old) who were admitted to the gynecology outpatient clinic of a tertiarymaternity hospital. Demographic features and knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors about these methods were inquired in face-to-face interviews. Results While 80.7% of the total participants thought that complementary and alternative medicine was beneficial, only 37.5% of them had used these methods previously. The rate of prior knowledge on this subject was of 59.7% and the source of information was physicians for 8.5% of the patients. However, 72.4% of all participants wanted to obtain information on these methods and 93.7% wanted to be informed by physicians. In the decision tree model, having knowledge about complementary and alternative medicine was the most effective factor determining its use (p

The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and effect on the menstrual pattern of the levonorgestrel releasing intrauterine device versus oral progesterone for treatment in patient having simple endometrial hyperplasia (EH) without atypia. Patients who underwent endometrial sampling with abnormal uterine bleeding history and received simple EH without atypia were included in this study between 1 December 2015 and 31 March 2016, retrospectively. Twenty-two patients were treated with the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG-IUD) and 47 with oral progesterone. Primary outcome measures were regression of hyperplasia after 3 months of therapy. Secondary outcome measures were effect on menstruel pattern during treatment, or rates of hysterectomy and recurrence within a 12 month period. After 3 months of treatment, regression of EH occurred in all of women in LNG-IUD group versus 93% of women in the oral progesterone group (p=0.226). Hb values were increased at the 3th month measurement in both of groups. Endometrial thickness was significantly decreased at the end of the 3th month (p< 0.001). Amenorrhea was more common in the LNG-IUD group (p [Med-Science 2018; 7(1.000): 21-24]

Abstract Background Preoperatively identification of malignancy potential of a postmenopausal adnexal masses is important. Aim To evaluate the effectiveness of the Risk of Malignancy Index-2 in presumably benign adnexal masses in postmenopausal women. Study Design Retrospective, observational study. Methods 119 women with postmenopausal adnexal masses with a preliminary diagnosis of benign tumors according to the Risk of Malignancy Index-2 were included. Age, duration of menopause, ultrasonographic findings, and serum CA-125 levels were recorded preoperatively. The definitive diagnosis was based on postoperative histopathological examination. Results Of 119 adnexal mass, 10 were malignant and 109 were benign. There was no statistically significant difference with regard to age and tumor size between the groups. The two significant ultrasonographic parameter between groups were the presence of solid area in the mass and bilaterality. Moreover, if the cut off point for serum CA-125 was adjusted to 14.75 IU/mL according to ROC curve, a sensitivity value of 80% and a specificity value of 72% could be achieved to discriminate benign and malign cysts. Conclusion In the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant adnexal masses in postmenopausal women, the presence of a solid component, bilaterallity based on ultrasonography and high CA-125 values may be used as discriminative criteria. There is no direct relation between the size of the adnexal mass and malignancy potential. Therefore, in the malignancy indexes of postmenopausal women, we recommend lower cut-off values of CA-125 to increase the sensitivity of preoperative evaluation tests without having a great impact on negative predictive values.

Summary: Background: The population of elderly women is increasing worldwide. Here we investigated the prevalence of malignant endometrial polyps in a population of geriatric women. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at the gynaecology clinic of Zekai Tahir Burak Education and Research Hospital. Women who were aged >65 years and who were pathologically diagnosed with endometrial polyps between 2007 and 2016 were included. All patients with endometrial polyps underwent hysteroscopic resection. Patient characteristics, complaints and imaging and surgical findings were obtained from their medical records. Statistical data analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results: In total, 133 geriatric female patients were included. They had a mean age of 68.96 ± 4.20 (65–83) years. Among them, 114 (85.7%) patients had benign endometrial polyps, 7 (5.2%) had endometrial hyperplasia and 12 (9%) had endometrial cancer. Forty-eight women had been admitted because of postmenopausal bleeding. Eighty-five women presented with either non-specific symptoms, such as abdominal pain, dysuria and urinary incontinence, or had no symptoms and received incidental diagnosis via ultrasound scanning. The mean endometrial thickness was 9.3 ± 6.39 mm in benign cases and 16.44 ± 8.64 mm in premalignant/malignant cases. In multivariate Cox regression analysis, uterine bleeding and endometrial thickness were significantly and independently associated with premalignant or malignant polyps. All malignant polyps were found to be endometrioid adenocarcinoma. Conclusion: In our study, we detected an prevalence of endometrial cancer among 9% of geriatric women with endometrial polyps. Hence, it is important to conduct a pathological evaluation of endometrial polyps in such patients. Keywords: geriatrics, postmenopausal period, polyps, neoplasms

Intravesical foreign objects in bladder are really seen rarely. Most of the time, the reasons of insertions of the foreign body are self-autoerotism to iatrogenic urological procedures, migration from surrounding organs or trauma. It can damage the bladder and may result in several urogenital and bowel complications. Herein, we present a case in a 42-year-old female with an eyeliner pencil self-introduced into the urethra with successfully removal of eyeliner from bladder despite to the anamnesis given involuntarily due to embarrassment, guilt and humiliation. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to determine the diagnostic values of some clinical and ultrasonographic features for predicting ovarian malignancies in patients with normal serum CA-125 levels. STUDY DESIGN: All of the 84 patients who were diagnosed with ovarian malignancy and 168 patients with benign adnexal mass had normal CA-125 levels, and recruited as study and control groups, respectively. Individual characteristics, ultrasonographic features, and risk of malignancy index (RMI) values of the groups were compared retrospectively. RESULTS: The ages, mean postmenopausal period of the postmenopausal women in the malignant group were significantly higher than the benign group. Nulliparity rates were similar between the two groups. The number of postmenopausal patients was significantly higher in the malignant group. Median cyst diameter and RMI values were significantly higher, and bilaterality and presence of solid area were more frequent in this group. Logistic regression model showed that ovarian cysts larger than 8 cm [Odds ratio (OR): 7.012; p
