Background: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland and may present as goiter or atrophic thyroiditis that may result in various metabolic and inflammatory disorders. The aim of this study is to determine the changes in serum levels of interleukin-17 (IL-17), IL-23, neopterin, and nesfatin-1 parameters in HT patients and to evaluate the possible relationship among these parameters. Methods: 90 HT patients and 30 healthy individuals were included in this study. Demographic data of the patients included in the study were recorded and detailed physical examinations were performed. IL-17, IL-23, neopterin, and nesfatin-1 levels were measured in the serum samples of the participants by the ELISA method. Results: Serum IL-17, IL-23, neopterin, levels were significantly higher and nesfatin-1 levels were significantly lower in the HT group compared to the control group. Statistically significant differences were observed between all the groups except euthyroid HT versus HT treated with levothyroxine for nesfatin-1 at the 0.05 level. Conclusion: IL-17, IL-23, and neopterin were involved in the etiopathogenesis of HT. Weight gain in HT may due to low nesfatin-1 level rather than throid hormone deficiency. These variables could be used as potential biomarkers in the diagnosis, prognosis and fellow up of HT disease.

The rapid advancement of communication technologies has brought about profound transformations in the structure of modern societies. Since the late 20th century, the proliferation of the internet and digital communication tools has reshaped the ways individuals, communities, and nations interact. Today, communication increasingly occurs through digital platforms, leading to the emergence of a new public sphere and the redefinition of traditional public spaces. This paper comparatively examines the theories of Jürgen Habermas and Manuel Castells, both of whom have explored the impact of communication technologies on social dynamics. Habermas, through his theory of communicative action, analyzes the transformation of the public sphere, focusing on both the potential of communication technologies to enhance public participation and the risks of commercialization. According to Habermas, digital communication can broaden individual participation in the public sphere, but it also carries the risk of being dominated by commercial interests. Castells, on the other hand, emphasizes the power of digital networks to reshape social structures and power relations through his network society theory. Castells particularly highlights the potential for digital divides to exacerbate social inequalities and examines the impact of global communication on social structures. These two theories offer complementary and critical perspectives on the dual effects of communication technologies on democratic processes and social participation. This study aims to examine how communication technologies transform social structures through a multidimensional lens, employing theoretical and comparative analysis. While theoretical analysis provides a conceptual examination of the topic within theoretical frameworks, comparative analysis enables a detailed understanding of the similarities and differences between the two theories. Planting geometry is one of the most important management practices that determine plant growth and yield of corn. The effects of eight planting geometries (35 × 23 cm, 40 × 21 cm, 45 × 19 cm, 50 × 18 cm, 55 × 17 cm, 60 × 16 cm, 65 × 15 cm, 70 × 15 cm) on plant growth and yields of three sweet corn hybrids (Argos F1, Challenger F1, Khan F1) were investigated under Erzurum, Türkiye conditions in 2022 and 2023 years. Variance analysis of the main factors shows a highly significant effect on whole traits but in two-way interactions some of the traits were significant and in the three-way interactions, it was insignificant. As an average of years, the number of plants per hectare at the harvest varied between 92,307 (35 × 23 cm) and 120,444 (70 × 15 cm) according to the planting geometries. The highest marketable ear number per hectare (107,456), marketable ear yield (24,887 kg ha−1), and fresh kernel yield (19,493 kg ha−1) were obtained from the 40 × 21 cm planting geometry. The results showed that the variety Khan F1 grown at 40 × 21 cm planting geometry obtained the highest marketable ear number (112,472), marketable ear yield (29,788 kg ha−1), and fresh kernel yield (22,432 kg ha−1). The plant density was positively correlated with marketable ear number (r = 0.904 **), marketable ear yield (r = 0.853 **), and fresh kernel yield (r = 0.801 **). The differences among the varieties were significant for the studied traits, except for plant density and kernel number per ear. In conclusion, the variety Khan F1 should be grown at the 40 × 21 cm planting geometry to maximize yields under study area conditions without water and nutrient limitations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mythology and cinema are two significant art forms that leave deep marks on the collective memory of humanity. Mythology is a collection of stories, gods, and symbols that reflect the beliefs, values, and worldviews of societies. Cinema, as one of the powerful art forms of the modern era, conveys mythological elements through a visual language to reach wide audiences. Thus, cinema not only uses mythology as a source of stories but also adds deep meanings by relating mythological figures and themes to the problems of modern society, helping viewers reinterpret and understand mythological stories and symbols in the modern world. This article aims to examine the relationship between cinema and mythology through Guillermo del Toro's film Pan's Labyrinth (2006). The film presents a fantastical story set after the Spanish Civil War, enriched with mythological elements and symbols. This study analyzes the mythological themes of the film and how these themes merge with cinematic narration. The research method used is qualitative, with an intertextual analysis technique applied to the film. Firstly, the mythological elements and symbols in the film are identified, and then their meanings and functions in the film are detailed. By utilizing mythology literature, the mythological references and symbolic meanings of the characters, events, and settings in the film are explained. In this context, Ofelia's journey parallels the hero's journey archetype, and the film deepens themes such as growth, sacrifice, and resistance by using mythological elements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Even though daily life and cinema seem like separate worlds, they are actually in deep interaction. Everyday life includes individuals' daily routines, habits, social interactions and ordinary lives. Cinema, on the other hand, is an art form that tells stories and presents the experience of emotion and thought using visual and auditory elements. In this context, the relationship between daily life and cinema is important for understanding how ordinary lives can be used as a platform for artistic expression and finding meaning, and the effects of this interaction on the audience. Both the reflection of daily life in cinema and the impact of cinema on daily life create a culturally rich area of interaction and sharing. This study aims to examine how the sociology of daily life and cinema are in a relationship. In the article, it is discussed how cinema can be used as a resource while examining the daily life sociology, people's daily routines, habits and social interactions. Along with this, the potential of cinema to tell the social reality and reflect the social dynamics of the society is also emphasized. The article also focuses on the common points and interaction of daily life sociology and cinema. It is discussed how the two disciplines feed each other, how cinema represents everyday life, and how sociology uses cinema as a resource. In this context, the relationship between the sociology of daily life and cinema is analyzed through the movie "Neşeli Hayat". While the film shows the effects of economic problems in social life and the daily lives of individuals, the similarities of daily life sociology and cinema and how they complement each other are emphasized. The development of the human cerebral cortex is an orchestrated process involving the generation of neural progenitors in the periventricular germinal zones, cell proliferation characterized by symmetric and asymmetric mitoses, followed by migration of post-mitotic neurons to their final destinations in six highly ordered, functionally specialized layers. An understanding of the molecular mechanisms guiding these intricate processes is in its infancy, substantially driven by the discovery of rare mutations that cause malformations of cortical development. Mapping of disease loci in putative Mendelian forms of malformations of cortical development has been hindered by marked locus heterogeneity, small kindred sizes and diagnostic classifications that may not reflect molecular pathogenesis. Here we demonstrate the use of whole-exome sequencing to overcome these obstacles by identifying recessive mutations in WD repeat domain 62 (WDR62) as the cause of a wide spectrum of severe cerebral cortical malformations including microcephaly, pachygyria with cortical thickening as well as hypoplasia of the corpus callosum. Some patients with mutations in WDR62 had evidence of additional abnormalities including lissencephaly, schizencephaly, polymicrogyria and, in one instance, cerebellar hypoplasia, all traits traditionally regarded as distinct entities. In mice and humans, WDR62 transcripts and protein are enriched in neural progenitors within the ventricular and subventricular zones. Expression of WDR62 in the neocortex is transient, spanning the period of embryonic neurogenesis. Unlike other known microcephaly genes, WDR62 does not apparently associate with centrosomes and is predominantly nuclear in localization. These findings unify previously disparate aspects of cerebral cortical development and highlight the use of whole-exome sequencing to identify disease loci in settings in which traditional methods have proved challenging.
