The linear accelerators (LINACs) produce high-energy X-rays and electron beams for the treatment of cancer patients. The basis of radiation therapy is based on the interaction between substance and radiation. LINAC as External beam radiotherapy, neutron contamination is produced in electron beams of medical LINAC by the contribution of the primary and the secondary collimators are founded. Consequently, the resulting photoneutrons can easily be scattered and spread into the clinical room. Thus, it is recommended that treatment planning performed should not be ignored in the tumor volume of the patient and areas outside this volume. The contribution of the primary collimator and the secondary collimators to the neutron contamination was found to be approximately 52% and 30%, respectively. This paper’s objective is to determine the neutron dose contamination from different materials in a LINAC. The effects of using different material ratios such as Gadolinium (Gd) and Tungsten (W) in secondary collimators on neutron contamination have been investigated by using Geant4-based Architecture for Medicine-Oriented Simulations (GAMOS) and TALYS 1.95 codes.

The protection of air quality in public areas in the community is important for health and is a current problem. This problem often manifests itself with epidemic diseases or deaths in large or small healthcare institutions, along with many common areas where ventilation is insufficient. The steps taken so far are insufficient to prevent this problem, In the study, a small and portable air purification system was designed using particulate filters and UV lamps, providing medical-grade air quality. This system has been designed in accordance with EN ISO 14644-1 cleanroom standards using UV-C technology. This device can be used in health institutions such as public transportation vehicles, intensive care waiting rooms, microbiology, and biochemistry laboratories., Toplum içerisinde ortak kullanıma açık alanlarda hava kalitesinin korunması sağlık açısından önemlidir ve güncel bir problemdir. Bu problem, havalandırmanın yetersiz olduğu birçok ortak kullanım alanı ile birlikte büyük veya küçük sağlık hizmeti veren kuruluşlarda kendini sıklıkla salgın hastalıklarla ya da yaşanan ölümler ile göstermektedir. Bu problemin önüne geçilebilmesi için bu zamana kadar atılan adımlar yetersiz kalabilmektedir. Çalışma kapsamında, partikül tutucu filtreler, UV lambalar kullanılarak, küçük ve taşınabilir, medikal seviyede hava kalitesi sağlayan bir hava temizleme sistemin tasarlanmıştır. Bu sistem EN ISO 14644-1 temiz oda standartlarına uygun olacak şekilde UV-C teknolojisinden yararlanılarak tasarlanmıştır. Bu cihaz, sağlık kuruluşlarındaki toplu taşıma araçları, bekleme ve yoğun bakım odaları, mikrobiyoloji ve biyokimya laboratuvarları gibi yerlerde kullanılabilir niteliktedir.

Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT) systems are optical medical imaging methods. The image reconstruction stage of DOT systems is very important. This study is aimed to determine the ideal number of iterations for the iterative reconstruction algorithms used in the DOT system with an alternative to the methods in the literature. This method has a similar working principle to the Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) method. In order to test this method, simulation experiments have been carried out with MATLAB. After the simulation data was created, the reconstruction algorithms created the images of the simulated data with the number of iterations determined using the CNR-like iteration determination algorithm. The iteration determination algorithm developed in this study has been integrated into Truncated Conjugate Gradient (TCG), Bi-Conjugate Gradient, and Transpose Free Quasi Minimal Residual (TFQMR) algorithms., Difüz Optik Tomografi (DOT) sistemleri optik medikal görüntüleme yöntemlerindendir. DOT sistemlerinin görüntü oluşturma aşaması oldukça önemlidir. Bu çalışma da DOT sisteminde kullanılan iteratif geri çatım algoritmaları için ideal iterasyon sayının literatürdeki metotlara alternatif bir metot ile belirlenebilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu metodun, kontrast-gürültü oranı (Contrast to Noise Ratio, CNR) metoduna benzer bir çalışma prensibi vardır. Bu metodu test edebilmek için MATLAB programı ile simülasyon deneyleri yapılmıştır. Simülasyon verisi oluşturulduktan sonra CNR benzeri iterasyon belirleme algoritması kullanılarak belirlenen iterasyon sayısı ile geri çatım algoritmaları modellenen verinin görüntülerini oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışmada geliştirilen iterasyon belirleme algoritması Kesikli Eşlenik Gradyent (Truncated Conjugate Gradient, TCG), Çift Eşlenik Gradyent (Bi-Conjugate Gradient) ve Transpozu Olmadan Kısmen Minimum Rezidüel (Transpose Free Quasi Minimal Residual, TFQMR) algoritmalarına entegre edilmiştir.

Medical images have recently become an important part of patient care. Techniques for image processing and analysis are generally used in medicine. Medical images are complicated, and they differ significantly from one application to the next. Image processing is required to obtain high-quality medical images for accurate diagnosis. In medical applications, the purpose of image processing and analysis is to improve image quality and extract quantitative information from images as efficiently and accurately as possible. In this paper, noise reduction filters were used to improve the mammography image. Filters are used to improve noise and reduce noises by the linear filter, median filter, and wiener filter. Filtering processes have been applied to image formats with medical content, such as mammography images, which are different from standard digital images. X-ray angiography systems are essential method of diagnosis of coronary arteries from angiography images. Coronary angiography is known as the gold standard; for the evaluation of coronary artery disease. Nevertheless, Visual interpretation of angiography images are difficult due to the gradual crossing and overlap of the vessels on the angiogram. For this reason, many segmentation methods have been used to obtain blood vessel structures in the human body. These blood vessel segmentation methods can be classified; model-based tracking, propagation, artificial neural network (ANN), and fuzzy. Also, accurate segmentation of vascular structures in 2D angiography images is an important task for clinical practices such as computer-aided diagnosis, surgical planning and treatment. In general, Hessian-based vessel enhancement filters are known to be achieve in segmenting vessels from angiography images. In this study, the vascular structures of the coronary arteries were obtained by image processing including contrast enhancement methods using Frangi filter. Otomatik bir rahim ağzı kanseri testinde, 2 boyutlu görüntülerden rahim ağzının yerinin tahmin edilmesi gerekir. Servikal os, dört kadran konumu gösteriminde veya 12 saatlik dilimler halindeki gösterimde her bir konumun yerini belirlemek için referans noktası olarak kullanılmaktadır. Servikal os noktasının hassas tespiti lezyonların doğru adreslenmesini sağlar. Bu çalışmada, 2 boyutlu gri tonlamalı görüntülerde servikal os koordinatının (x, y) merkezini tahmin etmek için 6 katmanlı bir evrişimli sinir ağı kullanılmıştır. Servikal os'un yerini tahmin etmek için herhangi bir görsel unsuru maskelemeden bütünsel bir yaklaşım kullandık. Çalışmada kullanılan iki boyutlu görüntüler, bir telesentrik lens ve 500-550 nanometre ışık dalga boylarına sahip bir CCD kamera kullanılarak elde edildi. Sınırlı sayıda örnek görüntü (145 görüntü) nedeniyle veri, büyütme tekniklerinden faydalanılarak her bir orijinal görüntü, görüntünün merkez noktasına göre -30 dereceden +30 dereceye kadar 1 derecelik artan açılar ile döndürüldü. Bu veriler üzerinden öğrenme yapan 6 katmanlı evrişimli sinir ağı, daha önce görülmeyen 21 serviks görüntüsü üzerinde test edildi. Sonuçlar, kullanılan görüntü merkezi tabanlı büyütme tekniğinin tahmin performansını iyileştirdiğini gösterdi. Servikal os lokasyonunun tahmininde 2.4 RMSE değeri elde edildi., In an automated cervical cancer test, the prediction of the location of the cervical os from 2D images is required. Cervical os is the reference point to determine the lesion's location by either using cervical four-quadrant location or by 12 o’clock locations. Precise detection of the cervical os point ensures correct addressing of the lesions. This study used a 6-layer convolutional neural network to predict the center of the cervical os’ coordinates (x,y) on 2D grayscale images. We used a holistic approach without masking any visual element to predict the location of the cervical os. The 2D images were obtained using a telecentric lens and a CCD camera with light wavelengths of 500 550 nanometers. Because of the limited number of image samples (145 images), we used augmentation techniques to increase the training set size by rotating each original image in 1-degree increments from -30 degrees to +30 degrees relative to the center of the image. The 6-layer convolutional neural network was tested on 21 unseen cervix images using augmentation data. The outcomes showed that the image center-based augmentation technique improves the prediction performance. We obtained 2.4 RMSE in predicting the location of the cervical os.

Diffüzoptik tomografi (DOT), kanser tanısı veya kanser takibi için meme dokusunundoku kromoforlarının uzaysal dağılımını görüntülemek için 750-950 nm dalga boyuaralığını kullanır. DOT, doku optik özelliklerinin geri çatım teknikleri iletomografik olarak gösterilmesini sağlar. Görüntülerdeki gürültüleri en azaindirmek ve daha gerçekçi tomografik görüntüler elde etmek için çeşitli geri çatımteknikleri geliştirilmiştir. Dört farklı geri çatım tekniklerini karşılaştırmakiçin DOT sistemi ile doku fantomu kullanılarak veriler elde edildi. Ayrıca, TSVD ve TCG tarafından oluşturulan görüntüler, ART veSIRT ile oluşturulan görüntülere göre daha az gürültü olarak elde edilmiştir., Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) utilizes wavelength range of 750-950 nm to map the spatial distribution of the tissue chromophores of breast tissue for cancer diagnosis or follow up prognosis. DOT allows tomographic reconstructions of tissue optical properties. Several reconstruction methods have been developed to minimize artifacts and obtain more realistic tomographic images. In order to compare four different reconstruction algorithms, data acquired from tissue phantoms using a DOT system. Algebraic reconstruction technique (ART), simultaneous iteration reconstruction technique (SIRT), truncated singular value decomposition (TSVD) and truncated conjugate gradient (TCG) techniques have been compared in terms of location of inclusion in the tissue phantoms. It has been shown that images reconstructed by the subspace techniques, TSVD and TCG locating the inclusion position better than the algebraic methods ART and SIRT. Beside, images reconstructed by TSVD and TCG have less artifact when compared to images of ART and SIRT.

In this study, the image quality of the mammography system was measured by mathematical methods. New methods for performance measurements have been used to quantitatively evaluate the image quality in mammography systems. Since the quantitative evaluation of imaging quality gives more objective results than evaluation of visual, numerical evaluations have been emphasized within the scope of the study. The Slanted-edge method was used for the calculation of modulation transfer function (MTF), and angular calculations were made in the use of this method. On effect of different region-of-interest (ROI) selection on edge spread function (ESF), use of different differentiation methods for line spread function (LSF), MTF, and on the effect of different rebinning sizes on ESF, LSF and MTF were investigated. All these methods consist of the calculation were designed to perform using the MATLAB program., Bu çalışmada, mamografi sisteminin görüntü kalitesi matematiksel yöntemler ile ölçülmüştür. Geçmiş yıllarda, hem enstitüdeki sistemler kullanılarak hem de çeşitli hastanelerde bulunan farklı dijital görüntüleme sistemleri için görüntü kalitesi testleri yapılmıştır. Bu testlerde, çeşitli hazır paket programlar kullanılmaktadır. Bu programların, algoritmalarının uygulama detayları bilinmemekte ve algoritma parametrelerinin değiştirilmesi konusunda çeşitli kısıtlamaları mevcuttur. Ayrıca son yıllarda sıklıkla kullanılmaya başlayan yeni metrikler bu programlarda mevcut değildir. Belli ölçütleri hesaplayabilmek için farklı yazılımların kullanılması zorunluluğu, bu programların çıkışlarının karşılaştırılması isteği, çıktılar arası uyumsuzluk, değerlendirme sürecinin uzaması gibi etkenlerden dolayı Enstitü bünyesindeki çalışmalarda kullanılmak üzere görüntü işleme ve görüntü kalitesinin değerlendirmesi için bütünleşik bir araç ihtiyacı ortaya çıkmıştır.Bu çalışmada, sayısal görüntüleme sistemlerinden alınan görüntülerde kalite kontrol testleri ve görüntü işleme uygulama algoritmaları gerçekleştirilerek, yine tez kapsamında hazırlanmış bir kullanıcı arayüzü ile birleştirilerek bir yazılım geliştirilmiştir. Görüntü işleme modülünde, görüntü üzerinde yapılan bazı sayısal hesaplama ve sayısal radyolojik görüntüleme sistemlerinde sıklıkla kullanılan filtreler kullanılmıştır.Görüntüleme kalitesinin sayısal değerlendirilmesi, görsel değerlendirmeye göre daha objektif sonuçlar verdiğinden tez kapsamında sayısal değerlendirmeler üzerinde durulmuştur. Görüntü kalitesinin sayısal hesaplamalarından önce sinyal transfer fonksiyonu düzeltmesi yapılmıştır. Kenar görüntüleme metodu kullanımında açı hesaplamaları yapılmıştır. Gürültü güç dağılımı (NPS) hesaplamaları yapılmış ayrıca farklı ilgi alanı ve alt ilgi alanları boyutlarında NPS değişimleri incelenmiş, dedeksiyon kuantum etkinliği (DQE) hesaplamaları farklı frekans aralıklarında yapılmıştır. Various software packages are used in these studies. Implementation details of the algorithms of these packages are not known in detail and there are many restrictions on changing the parameters of the algorithms. Moreover, some new metrics that are introduced in recent years, are not available in these programs. Due to the necessity of using different programs for different metrics, the difficulty of comparing outputs of many programs, compatibility issues between outputs and prolonged evaluation times, an integrated image processing and image quality evaluation tool need was emerged. In this study, quality control and image processing algorithms were developed, implemented and tested using images acquired various radiological imaging systems and these algorithms were integrated with a user interface which was also developed within thesis work. In the image processing module, numerical calculations some of the commonly used filters for digital radiographic imaging systems are implemented.Quantific evaluation of imaging quality is more objective than visual evaluation and therefore, we focused on this type of analysis within the thesis work. All calculations were made after signal transfer function correction. Slanted edge method was selected for he calculation of modulation transfer function (MTF). Effect of different region-of-interest (ROI) seletion on edge spread function (ESF), use of different differentiation methods for line spread function (LSF), and effect of different rebinning sizes on ESF, LSF and MTF were investigated. Noise power spectrum (NPS) was calculated using different ROIs and number of subregions and results were compared. Detective quantum efficiency (DQE) was calculated using different frequency resolutions.
