This thesis maps out the use of open-source intelligence in the Czech media landscape. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the field, a broad theoretical foundation introducing concepts such as Web 2.0, participatory culture, alternative media or the open-source movement is presented. Furthermore, the theoretical part of the thesis includes a classification of basic open-source intelligence techniques and raises an example of an organisation producing open-source intelligence reports. The empirical part of this thesis utilised a mixed approach of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. First, a quantitative analysis of Twitter posts categorised as written in Czech mentioning the keyword 'osint' published from May 2014 to March 2022 was realised. Results indicate a growth in the topic's popularity in Czech internet discourse and suggest a causality between the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and a rising interest in open-source intelligence techniques. This thesis deals with social construction of expert knowledge during particularly dire phase of covid-19 pandemic (July 2020 to February 2021). Theoretical debates regarding the theory of agenda-setting and the paradigm of framing are intruduced, as well as their relation to normative considerations. In the empirical part, qualitative study of interviews with experts running on two important Czech sites is conducted, media frames are identified through grounded theory approach, and quantitative search for interesting relationships between those frames is conducted.

This thesis deals with how three chosen Czech daily newspapers - Rudé právo, Mladá fronta (later Mladá fronta DNES) and Lidové noviny - wrote about significant events that took place in the union republics during the last three years of the Soviet Union's existence (1989-1991). It specifically focuses on those events through which the republics were trying to regain freedom and independence for themselves - either through protests, or in a political matter. The thesis also addresses events that were somehow groundbreaking or during which ordinary people, who went to the streets to express their dissaproval of current political situation or to defend legally elected bodies, lost their lives. The thesis uses qualitative analysis to find out if there was a difference in how these three selected Czech newspapers wrote about such events in the context of changes that occured in the Czech political and media system, and if each own coverage somehow evolved.

The bachelor thesis analyzes the media image of Edvard Beneš in the Czech media between 1996-2019. The theoretical part of thesis deals with the view of historians Antoin Mar?s, Zbyněk Zeman and Jindřich Dejmek and the view of journalist Sidonie Dědinová to the figure of Edvard Beneš. The next chapter of the theoretical part deals with the most important places of memory associated with Beneš and the controversies that are associated with these places of memory. The last chapter is devoted to the Edvard Beneš Society and the Edvard Beneš Prize, which the Society partially sponsors. The empirical part deals with the analysis of articles published between 1996-2019. More specifically, the empirical part focuses on the changes in the frequency of publishing articles in this period in specific media. The main part of the work consists of an analysis of the view of articles on Beneš in the context of the most important historical events of which Beneš was a part, as well as an analysis of the view of Beneš's personality. The last chapter of the empirical part concerns reviews of books and biographies about Beneš.

The Bachelor thesis Online reporting on football matches as a format of sports journalism from a perspective of its authors describes online reporting as one of new types of sports journalism in the digital era and engages in forms of online reports in chosen Czech media outlets. The main method used while completing the thesis were semi-structured interviews with deputies of chosen media outlets. This diploma thesis examines the image of Hong Kong's pro-democracy protests in 2019 in the Czech and Chinese media. The framing of these protests in selected media is compared using the method of quantitative content analysis, with the aim of revealing similarities and differences both between the individual Czech media in the context of the Czech public debate on China and between the Czech and Chinese media. The theoretical part of this thesis presents the concepts of media theory such as framing, agenda setting and social construction of reality and characterizes the specifics of given media systems. Furthermore, the work describes the previous findings of the protest paradigm, which are then employed in analytical part of this study. At the same time, the concept of soft power with Chinese characteristics and its specific manifestations in the efforts of the People's Republic of China to influence the Czech public debate on China is introduced. The presented diploma thesis on the topic Direct election of the President in the Czech media environment aims to clarify how the selected internet news portals (iDnes.cz, iRozhlas.cz, Novinky.cz, Blesk.cz) reported on the second rounds of the direct election of the head of state in years 2013 and 2018. The theoretical part of this work focuses on the definition of theoretical concepts, such as media image, media product or representation. It also deals with the factors of the enactment of the direct election of the president and the resulting impact on society. In the analytical part, articles from selected servers in a specific period will be examined with the help of quantitative content analysis, which should, among other things, clarify how the media decided to approach this new institution.

This diploma thesis is focused on a representation of motherhood in the selected Czech media. Motherhood itself and the view on it had changed in 21st century in many ways as shows the recent research. The goal of this thesis is to show how is the topic "motherhood" represented in selected Czech women's magazines and what kind of media construction of this topic are presented to the readers. To reach the goal of this research the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods was used. Specifically, the frame analysis and quantitative content analysis. The work begins with the theoretical part which contents the recent concepts of feministic media research, because this thesis is based on the feministic and gender theory perspective. The empirical part of the thesis contents the results of the research. Firstly, the nine frames that had been identified are presented and evaluated than quantitative representation of the frames follow. Finally, there is the evaluation of the quantitative content analysis to which side research questions and hypotheses relate. The results are evaluated and compared with theory and foreign research in the discussion and the final part. The limits of the research and the outline of further possible research in this area are also presented.

The present thesis investigates the impact of the global strike for climate organised by the Fridays for Future movement and led by Greta Thunberg on the approach of selected Czech media toward their coverage of environmental topics. By applying the method of quantitative content analysis, the thesis aims to uncover how Czech media reported on a clearly defined area of ecological problems and incidental environmental topics before and after the protest, while dedicating special attention to the representation of topics and frames in media agenda and the coverage of the respective persons and organisations involved. The theoretical section defines global ecological issues and presents theoretical concepts relevant for studying the media coverage of environmental topics and the impact of social movements and their protests on the agenda of the topics at hand with regard to historical and societal contexts. This thesis aims to analyze stereotypes in Czech TV travel shows with a focus on the region of sub-Saharan Africa. The chosen form of research is a content analysis, divided into three parts: thematic, visual, and textual. Thematic analysis focuses on the selection of topics. Visual on how the camera processes the story and the text part analyzes the keywords. Selected programs that were used for this research are three TV travel shows of Czech production: Objektiv, Cestománie, and Koření. All three programs show that the tendency to portray sub-Saharan Africa outside of the news is rather stereotypical, and Africa's unified media presentation highlights recurring themes: political instability, poverty, or a beauty of African nature.

This bachelor thesis focuses on the trend of direct monetization of digital newspaper content. At the beggining, it examines the development of monetizing and puts it in the context of media market transformations after the mass expansion of internet connection. Subsequently it explores other reasons that lead to the surge of paywalls, analyses particular approaches to direct monetization and discusses some aspects which affect the overall success of imposing fees. The theoretical part is concluded with a discussion about several problematic sides of direct monetization and defining some elemental techniques which publishers use to attract new subscribers. The practical part provides an analysis of digital subscription offers in selected Czech media and marketing activities which they use to support sales. Followingly, the work elaborates on its own survey which focused on attitudes of Czech readers towards paid internet content and their preferences regarding particular offers, such as price level or periodicity of subscription payments. As a part of the practical section, three interviews with media representatives were conducted and the acquired findings are used throughout the thesis.

The submitted thesis entitled Framing of the Istanbul Convention in Selected Czech Media examines the way in which this particular topic was presented in printed and online media in the year 2018. The Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, also known as the Istanbul Convention, is a document, in which Czech Republic, by accepting it, has to commit to the a necessary steps to fight against gender based violence in our country. The aim of this work is to identify and present the specific media frames that have been used in the connection with the discussions surrounding the Istanbul Convention and to describe the construction of the actors around this document. The research sample consists of four printed pieces of media, namely Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo and eight online journals aktualne.cz, blesk.cz, denik.cz, eurozpravy.cz, novinky.cz, parlamentnilisty.cz, reflex.cz and seznamzpravy.cz. Qualitative methods based on grounded theory techniques were used for the research. The result of open and axial coding is in total nine media frames about the way in which the Istanbul Convention is framed in Czech media.

The bachelor thesis The Big Bao edition in the production of the Baobab publishing house and its image in the Czech media between the years 2004 and 2019 follows up the Big Bao edition published from 2004 to the present days by the Baobab publishing house that focuses on children's literature. The edition is made of novel genre books for older children's readers. The goal of the thesis is to critically analyze the edition's content, graphic design and to identify the edition's position amid the rest of the publisher's production. The thesis also focuses on the edition's image in the Czech print, online and audiovisual media. The thesis is divided into two separate parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the author describes the Czech children's literature and it's history. He also focuses on Czech children's literature's illustration. In the practical part author pursues the Big Bao edition itself, characterizes it, describes its individual titles, authors, and graphic design. He further pursues the Czech media image of the edition between the years 2004 and 2019. Diploma thesis Critical Reflection of Marek Šindelka's Current Prosaic Creation in the Czech Media has the aim to analyze selected critical reflections that were published in the Czech media about a novel Chyba (2008), a collection of short stories Zůstaňte s námi (2011), a collection of short stories Mapa Anny (2014) and a novel Únava materiálu (2016), all of them written by author Marek Šindelka. The source of reviews and critiques published between 2008 and 2018 are czech literary magazines A2, Host, Revolver Revue, Souvislosti and Tvar, daily press Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Právo and websites iLiteratura.cz and iRozhlas.cz. The analysis was made according to data in the archive of Institute for Czech Literature. Content of these critics was found in the full-text archive of media news from the Czech Republic called Newton Media Search and as well in the archive of concrete media depending on the availability of full text including its bibliographic data. This thesis deals with the image of India in the Czech media. The analysis begins in 1996 and continues to recent years. The aim of the thesis is to describe the image of India in the Czech print media. The principles of the theory of discourse, discourse analysis and image in media as well as the methodology are defined in the first chapter, which also contains the description of the primary sources for the further analysis. The following part of the thesis contains the results of the quantitative media analysis, that show which media are writing most often regarding the topic "India". The thesis further shows the results of the qualitative discourse analysis, which explains in detail how are the journalists creating the image of India and how they directly contribute to the construction of the image of India among the readers. The conclusion describes how is India communicated in the Czech Republic.

This Bachelor thesis aims to research and describe the media image of the MeToo movement, which prompted women to share their experiences with sexual violence on social media. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the MeToo movement and its evolution from a local initiative to help socially disadvantaged African American women to its current state, impacting predominantly the American entertainment industry following the scandalous sexual predátory behavior of Harvey Weinstein, a Hollywood producer. The next chapter describes the way the MeToo movement proceded to affect the Czech Republic a the reactions it elicited in Czech society. The thesis also examines the complex issue of sexual violence, its forms and effects and the way its looked upon in Czech society. The media research in this thesis studies texts from Czech online media outlets iDNES.cz, Novinky.cz and Respekt.cz, published between November 2017 and January 2018. The research is completed through the method of triangulation. The method of Berelson content analysis is used and followed by a qualitative method of interpreting the texts. This Bachelor thesis concerns itself with the internationally unrecognized confederation known as Novorossiya. This political entity emerged between 2014 and 2015 during the Ukrainian crisis. The ultimate goal of this work is to map out how the emergence of said state was reflected by four Czech and four Russian media platforms. The research itself is preceded by a chapter dedicated to the historical context of the geographical region. The content of this chapter includes important geopolitical and historical events that preceded the rise of the confederation which ventures back to the rule of Catherine II. up to the eventual Ukrainian Crisis. The parameters of the media inquiries made regarding the crisis are closely examined and include a year of research around said crisis in both directions (2013 & 2016). This is done in the hope to provide a wide enough scope of time and information to be able to clearly state if and when the idea of Novorossiya was present in any form and in what measures was it present. The research done is both quantitative and qualitative terms in order to have sufficient data to reach a conclusion.

Like newspapers, books, cinema or music, fine art is a medium of human communication, and the carrier of a message. Its role as a specific means of communication has transformed throughout history, along with the role of mass media. Before the rise of mass communications across all of society, this function was to some degree facilitated by works of art. A work of art is itself a medium of communication, while at the same time it can also represent other media - in various stages of the evolution of arts and culture the mass media themselves became the subject of art. This can be defined as the meta-communication of one medium with another. The present dissertation focuses on the research and work of Czech artists engaged with visualizing the means of mass-media communication (periodicals, radio, television) and its actors (the recipients and producers of media content). The relevant works of art for this thesis (paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures) are the focus of a qualitative analysis resulting in an overview of the evolution of this subject matter since the advent of mass media, i.e., from the emergence of the first printed periodicals to the 1960s. The bachelor thesis "Difference between Czech media's relation to Africa and the rest of the world on the example of formation of independent Kosovo and South Sudan is analysing the approach of four major broadsheets to Africa. The thesis is using a quantitative content analysis in order to describe characteristics of the international news in the chosen broadsheets during two different months. The recived data will be then confirmed by analysing a specific case of independent Kosovo and South Sudan. In the first half, the thesis is focusing on a brief description of recent history of both states which will be analysed later on. The historical background will help to understand the situation in both countries which as in information that will be used to analyse the articles in the observed period. In the theoretical part, some concepts of media theory are presented as well as they are used throughout the thesis. This rigorous thesis researches the Czech printed magazine Kraus which was launched in November 2011 and ended in July 2012. The magazine was unique due to its media format of so called personality magazine. Kraus magazine was the first personality magazine in the Czech republic and no such other has been released since then. The thesis tracks and analyzes the existence of the magazine in Czech media market, while following the perspective of the critical political economy of communication. In order to put the Kraus magazine into a broader context of the political economy of communication, one part of the thesis is focused on foreign personality magazines such as Dutch Linda or American O, The Oprah Magazine. The successful Dutch Linda magazine was explicitly a pattern for Kraus, being published by the same media production company Sanoma Magazines. Another part of the thesis characterizes the public media image of Jan Kraus, a well-known Czech TV host, whose name and face the first Czech personality magazine bare. The thesis deal with transformations of st. Wenceslas symbol and his cult in the Czech press around breaking points of Czech 20th century history. It asks about impact of contemporary policy and incidents on presentation of st. Wenceslas symbol, then about parts of st. Wenceslas cult and finally about connection of this symbol with other national symbols. The thesis is based on the assumtion that national identity is constructed through collective memory of members of the nation, appropriate symbology and history interpretation. Research uses qualitative metods (discourse analysis). Sample is made of Czech (mostly) statewide press articles that are related to st. Wenceslas and his cult, from the period around the st. Wenceslas day (28th September), in several years intervals around appointed breaking points (1918, 1938, 1939, 1945, 1948, 1968 and 1989). It has been found that 1. st. Wenceslas symbol represents unchanging connection of the church and the nation in the case of Catholic perspective, 2. in danger it mobilizes and symbolizes the statehood and the strength of the nation in case of the nationalistic use and 3. it can support legitimity of new established regime. The thesis "Medial muck-raking of sexual affairs in the Church in Czech press in spring 2010" through the use of medial ruts, stereotypes and logic, inquires into medial texts from the springtime 2010, which have referenced to sexual affairs in Catholic Church. Based on medial theories (gatekeeping, social construction of reality, agenda setting etc.) the thesis follows up the reflection of the theme and specifics of media discourse. This view is complemented with interviews with members of the Church, which give the thesis out-of- media extent. Qualitative part of the thesis takes sexual affairs in Church as illustrative theme, which is meant in connection with the Roman Catholic Church reflected by Czech media. The thesis also attempts to generalize the actual medial reflection of the Church on the background of current medial trends. It tries to offer a way how to improve the relationship between two part of culture - media and the Roman Catholic Church. To put the thesis into context it will be provided with information about history of the Roman Catolic Church and relationship of Czech society to matters of the church, because it determinates perception of medial news about this theme.

Bachelor thesis "The Media Image of the Centre Against Expulsions in Polish and Czech Daily Newspapers in the Years 2003 and 2004" deals with a comparison of four Polish and Czech daily newspapers and their approach to the subject of the Centre Against Expulsion which is an institution initiated by the German Federation of Expellees. In the first part the thesis treats the circumstances leading to the creation of a foundation which is supposed to promote the idea of the Centre and describes the debate that was started about this issue. The merits of the thesis are based on a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the dailies Rzeczpospolita, Gazeta Wyborcza, Právo and Mladá fronta DNES. By this analysis the thesis monitors how much space the newspapers devoted to the topic, to which opinions they gave a chance to be heard and what was their attitude to the question. The Diploma thesis "Thomas G. Masaryk's journalistic activity" aims to analyze Masaryk as a journalist. The thesis describes the process of Masaryk's evolution from childhood and school years through his university studies in Vienna and Leipzig till his move to Prague, where he worked at the local university. It emphasizes all the major aspects that formed his personali-ty. It focuses mainly on his position in the magazines Athenaeum, Čas and Naše doba, which then influenced many events. The issue is settled in the historical and cultural social context of the second half of the 19th century.
