Background: Endotracheal intubation is commonly used to maintain the airway during airway management, but it requires skill and experience, so standard endotracheal intubation performed by beginner managers carries a high risk of failure. This study was conducted based on the hypothesis that there are differences between the traditional and online education models in terms of learning and skill development in situations requiring basic skills, and it aimed to compare the traditional and online education models to evaluate endotracheal intubation learning and skills. Methods: This single-centre, prospective study aimed to evaluate the endotracheal intubation performance of volunteers. The research involved examining the endotracheal intubation experience of fourth-year medical school students who completed their education either traditionally or online at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan university simulation-based learning centre (RSIM). Approval was obtained before commencement from the local ethical committee (decision no. 2023/03, E-40465587-050.01.04-572). Results: Mean time for successful intubation in the traditional and online education models evaluated was statistically significant at the non-difficult (p=0.005), moderately difficult (p=0.007) and difficult airway (p=0.014) levels. Conclusions: Traditional and online education models affect endotracheal intubation ability. In endotracheal intubation with either a direct or a video laryngoscope, the traditional education model offered a more successful experience than the online education model. In addition, skills with the video laryngoscope were stronger in novice users than with the direct laryngoscope.

Background: PE accounts for 3% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. In this case, treating patients with thrombolysis during resuscitation has been associated with better survival. Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of systemic thrombolytic in unstable and/or resuscitated patients who are evaluated in the red area in emergency service practice and who are diagnosed with massive pulmonary embolism with bedside examinations. Methods: This prospective study was designed on 17 patients who were transferred as unstable to the emergency service of a tertiary hospital by Emergency Health Services and/or who needed resuscitation due to non-shockable fatal rhythm disorder on admission and who underwent systemic thrombolysis due to the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism during resuscitation. Results: Of the 17 patients included in the study, 52.9% were discharged and improvement was detected in unstable vital findings in 47.1% patients after thrombolysis. Of the bedside examinations performed on admission, ECG showed T wave negativity at V1-4 deviations and P-pulmonale in 41.2% patients and ECHO showed right ventricle dilatation indicating right ventricle dysfunction in 82.4% patients. CTPA taken after stabilization showed thrombus at bilateral pulmonary artery in 88.2% patients. Conclusion: Cardiopulmonary arrest caused by PE is a life-threatening condition that requires urgent systemic thrombolysis. Patients who are evaluated as unstable or in need of resuscitation in the emergency service should be diagnosed quickly as a result of examinations performed at bed-side and thrombolytic treatment should be started.

Background: No prophylactic treatment is available for individuals at high risk of developing COVID-19. This study, which was conducted between December 25, 2020 and January 25, 2021, is one of the first clinical studies to evaluate the efficacy of Anatolian propolis supplement against COVID-19. The aim was to obtain evidence on the prophylactic use of Anatolian propolis in individuals at high risk of developing COVID-19. Methods: This volunteer-based study was conducted in two centers. Study involved 209 healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, medical secretaries) from Emergency Medicine Department of Medical Faculty of Ataturk University and Emergency Medicine Department of Rize Recep Tayyip Erdogan University. 209 participants meeting the study criteria were divided into two groups as experimental group and control group. The experimental group received 20 drops of BEE'O UP 30% Propolis Drops twice a day during a follow-up period of 1 month. The control group received no supplement but was followed up. Findings: The participants showing symptoms during the study and all the participants at the end the study were subjected to PCR testing. The evaluation of the results of PCR testing at the end of the study has shown that 14 participants from the control group and only 2 participants from the experimental group, who received Anatolian propolis supplement, were reported as positive cases. Interpretation: It has been found that a statistically significant protection was induced against COVID-19 infection in 98% of the experimental group, who received Anatolian propolis, compared to the control group.

Lemierre's syndrome is a syndrome with high mortality, causing internal jugular vein (IJV) thrombophlebitis, septic lung and other organ embolism, which often develops as a complication of oropharyngeal infections. Mortality can be reduced with early diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic treatment. It is a rare syndrome and the case we have presented here differs from the cases with lemierre syndrome previously reported because of the involvement of superior vena cava (SVC) and subclavian vein.
