Objective: To evaluate the effect of mesh-urethra distance on sexual function in continent patients who underwent transobturator tape (TOT) surgery due to isolated stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Material and Methods: Continent patients who had undergone TOT surgery for SUI were eligible. Objective treatment for SUI was defined as the absence of urine leakage during a stress test. Translabial perineal ultrasound was performed six months after surgery. The successful surgical group was split into two subgroups based on the distance from the posterior of the urethra at the bladder neck to the nearest proximal edge of the tape: <5 mm and >5 mm. In addition to these, band percentile, the descent of bladder neck and urethra length measured by perineal ultrasound, pubo-urethral distance, urethral thickness, detrusor thickness, cystocele descent, rectal descent, and uterine descent were evaluated. Preoperative and postoperative results of the standardized and internationally valid incontinence questionnaires Incontinence Questionnaire Urinary Incontinence Short Form and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) were compared between groups. Results: Eighty-two patients were included. The postoperative FSFI scores for the >5 mm group were significantly lower than those of the <5 mm group, including the postoperative FSFI average, all subscales except lubrication, and average change scores due to the operation (p<0.001). There was no statistically significant relationship between the percentile occupied and postoperative FSFI score (p=0.553), and the FSFI preoperative-postoperative difference was not significant (p=0.905). Conclusion: Sexual functions are more affected in patients with a mesh-urethra distance >5 mm as measured by perineal ultrasound. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The diagnostic performances of colposcopy and Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) results in gynecology and gynecological oncology surgical services were evaluated. Their differences regarding biopsy numbers were investigated. The other objective was to examine factors associated with recurrence and residual lesions after LEEP. This study included the cytology results of 1217 women undergone colposcopy at our hospital colposcopy unit between 2012 and 2017. The colposcopicsensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were calculated based on LEEP results. The qualitative data were compared by employing Chisquare and Fisher's exact tests. χ² predicted the relation between age and number of involved margins with recurrent disease. Moreover, it predicted the link between age, cytology and number of relevant margins with residual disease. There was no significant difference regarding the diagnostic performance of two groups when LEEP was determined as the gold standard against colposcopy. The diagnostic accuracy rate was 1.83 times higher when more than 2 biopsies were taken compared to 2 or fewer. A significant increase was observed in the residual rate among women having pre-LEEP high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) positive tests compared to those with HR-HPV negative tests (48.0% vs. 15.4%, p = 0.04). Women with ≥ High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL)-positive margins in the first conization exhibited higher residual rates compared to those with High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL)-positive margins (50.7% vs. 9.5%, p < 0.001). Patients ofpositive surgical margins, residual lesions and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) with HPV 16 had higher probability of persistent HPV infection after conization. There was no significant difference pertaining to the diagnostic performance of two groups. HPV 16+ and the positive surgical margin were the predictive of recurrence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research was carried out between 2014 and 2016, within the scope of the 'National Integrated Marine Pollution Monitoring Program,' in a total of five seasonal cruises at 22 stations along the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea. A total of 296 phytoplankton species and one subspecies belonging to 12 classes were identified from samples collected during the five seasonal cruises. The highest diversity was observed in the summer of 2015, with 204 species recorded, while the lowest was 137 species in the summer of 2016. Dinoflagellates dominated the species composition, accounting for 51% of the species, followed by diatoms (44%), and other groups (5%). At the genus level, Chaetoceros, Thalassiosira, Bacteriastrum, and Coscinodiscus were the most dominant diatom genus, whereas Protoperidinium, Tripos, Dinophysis, Oxytoxum, and Prorocentrum were dominant among dinoflagellates. Amphisolenia schauinslandii Lemmermann 1899 and Ceratoperidinium margalefii A.R. Loeblich III 1980 were recorded for the first time along the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea. Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a rare mesenchymal tumor that is more common in women and can cause local recurrences, usually originating from the pelvis. Surgical excision is the main treatment method. In patients who cannot be completely excised or who relapse, hormone therapy and radiotherapy can be other options. A rare subtype of ovarian sex-cord stromal tumor is called fibrothecoma (FT). Early diagnosis is common and surgical excision is typically enough for treatment.
