The aim of this study was to compare barriers, gender, and health care disparities in incontinence sufferers.Methods: Incontinent patients were recruited into a questionnaire-based cross-sectional study. The 14-item Barriers to Incontinence Care Seeking Questionnaire (BICS-Q) and the three-item International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF) were used to evaluate barriers to seeking health care for urinary incontinence.Results: The representative sample (n = 1014) finally included 567 adults eligible to participate in this study (response rate 55.9%). Of the 147 incontinent males, 93 (63.3%) did not seek care, and of the 420 incontinent females, 282 (67.1%) did not seek care. Untreated males had significantly higher BICS-Q scores than other patients. Risk factors for barriers were obesity (odds ratio 2.13 for females versus 0.83 for males), stress urinary incontinence (1.57 versus 9.38, respectively), and urgency urinary incontinence (2.40 versus 1.75).Conclusion: The barriers to seeking care for urinary incontinence seem to be gender-specific. Obese females with urgency urinary incontinence and males with stress urinary incontinence were least likely to seek treatment.Keywords: urinary incontinence, barriers, health behavior, seeking, care

Abstract Background To document the status of imported malaria infections and estimate the costs of treating of patients hospitalized with the diagnosis of imported malaria in the Slovak Republic during 2003 to 2008. Case study Calculating and comparing the direct and indirect costs of treatment of patients diagnosed with imported malaria (ICD-10: B50 - B54) who used and not used chemoprophylaxis. The target sample included 19 patients diagnosed with imported malaria from 2003 to 2008, with 11 whose treatment did not include chemoprophylaxis and eight whose treatment did. Results The mean direct cost of malaria treatment for patients without chemoprophylaxis was 1,776.0 EUR, and the mean indirect cost 524.2 EUR. In patients with chemoprophylaxis the mean direct cost was 405.6 EUR, and the mean indirect cost 257.4 EUR. Conclusions The analysis confirmed statistically-significant differences between the direct and indirect costs of treatment with and without chemoprophylaxis for patients with imported malaria.

Objectives: To determine whether diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles was related to stress urinary incontinence, dysfunction of pelvic floor muscles, and of hiatal area size in postpartum women., Study Design: This observational prospective study included 150 women from 6 weeks to 6 months postpartum, with a mean age of 33.1 years. Diastasis Recti Abdominis is a condition in which the abdominal muscles are separated by an increased inter-rectus distance due to widening of the linea alba, measured using 2D ultrasound. Pelvic floor muscle function was examined using manometry, and the size of the hiatal area was examined using 3D/4D ultrasonography. Stress urinary incontinence symptoms were assessed using the International Incontinence Consultation Questionnaire (ICIQ-UI SF)., Results: We identified a significant weak correlation between diastasis of the rectus abdominis and symptoms of stress urinary incontinence (r = 0.283). We also found weak significant correlations of diastasis of the rectus abdominis with the maximum voluntary contraction (r = -0.278) and with the duration voluntary contraction (r = -0.274). Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the third most common type of urological malignancy worldwide, and it is associated with a silent progression and late manifestation. Patients with a metastatic form of ccRCC have a poor prognosis; however, when the disease is diagnosed early, it is largely curable. Currently, there are no biomarkers available in clinical practice for ccRCC. Thus, the aim of the present study was to measure 27 biologically relevant cytokines in preoperative and postoperative urine samples, and in preoperative plasma samples from 34 patients with ccRCC, and to evaluate their diagnostic significance. The concentrations of cytokines were assessed by multiplex immune assay. The results showed significantly higher levels of IL-1 receptor antagonist, IL-6, IL-15, chemokine (C-C motif) ligand (CCL)2, CCL3, CCL4, C-X-C motif ligand (CXCL)10, granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB), and lower levels of granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) in urine samples from patients prior to surgery compared with those in the controls. Notably, the urine levels of G-CSF, IL-5 and vascular endothelial growth factor differed following tumor removal compared with the preoperative urine levels. In addition, urinary G-CSF, GM-CSF, IL-6, CXCL10, CCL5 and PDGF-BB appeared to be potential markers of tumor grade. Plasma from patients with ccRCC contained significantly higher levels of IL-6 and lower levels of CCL2 than control plasma. Introduction and Hypothesis: The primary objective was to compare high- and low-frequency pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) with the impact on urinary incontinence episode frequency over 1 week (IEF/week). The secondary objective was to compare the two groups with regard to pelvic floor muscle function, morphometry, incontinence quality of life, and patient global impression., Methods: This was a randomised parallel controlled study. The setting was regional gynaecological and urological outpatient clinics. The subjects consisted of a sample of 86 women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Group A underwent high-frequency PFMT and group B underwent low-frequency PFMT for 12 weeks. We recorded the IEF/week. The International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF) was used. Pelvic floor muscle function was evaluated using a perineometer. Pelvic floor muscle morphometry was evaluated with 3D/4D ultrasound. The Urinary Incontinence Quality of Life Scale (I-QoL) was used., Results: Significant differences between group A and B after treatment (p<0.001) were noted in favour of group A in IEF/week (group A 10.2±7.0/2.3±3.0 vs group B 9.3±4.7/6.3±4.9), in the ICIQ-UI SF (group A 9.7±3.0/3.7 ± 3.6 vs group B 9.9±3.2/9.4±3.4). Significant differences between groups A and B after treatment were noted in favour of group A for pelvic floor muscle function in terms of maximal voluntary contraction and its duration, and also for pelvic floor muscle morphometry in terms of a reduction of the hiatal area during rest, contraction, and the Valsalva manoeuvre., Conclusions: High-frequency PFMT for 12 weeks significantly decreased IEF/week in comparison with low-frequency PFMT. Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common variant of RCC. It is an aggressive disease with an unfavorable prognosis. The rich immune infiltrates present in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of ccRCC produce various signaling molecules, especially cytokines, which primarily activate the Jak/STAT pathway and significantly influence tumor pathogenesis. STAT3 has a well-defined oncogenic character. Using multiplex assays and ELISA, we have measured the concentrations of 27 cytokines and STAT3 in tumor and healthy renal tissue from 16 patients with histologically verified ccRCC. We have detected significantly higher levels of G-CSF, IL-6, CXCL10, CCL3, and CCL4 in tumor tissue than in their healthy counterparts. There were significant differences in the levels of IL-1β and PDGF-BB between tumors of different nuclear grades (NG). Intratumoral IL-12p70 and IL-15 showed a significant positive correlation with intratumoral STAT3. The concentration of STAT3 in tumors was significantly lower than in the kidney. An increase in tumor STAT3 levels was associated with an increase in the pathological stage of the disease (TNM), but not with NG. The results of our study confirm the significant role of various cytokines and STAT3 in the pathogenesis of ccRCC and indicate their clinical relevance.

Purpose: To develop a safe and precise method for intraprostatic injection, and to establish correlation between the volume of ethanol injectate and the volume of subsequent infiltrated prostate tissue., Materials and Methods: We performed intraprostatic injection of 96% ethanol using a needle which has a segment of its wall made of capillary membrane with hundreds of pores in an acute and chronic canine experiment, in heart-beating cadaveric organ donors, and in a xenograft model of human prostate cancer. Whole mount tissue sections were used for three-dimensional reconstruction of the necrotic lesions and calculation of their volumes., Results: The ethanol injection resulted in oval shaped lesions of well-delineated coagulative necrosis. In both healthy human and canine prostates, the prostatic pseudocapsule and neurovascular bundle remained intact without evidence of disruption. There was a linear correlation between administered volume of ethanol and the volume of necrotic lesion. Regression analysis showed strong correlation in the acute canine experiments and in experiments performed on xenografts of human prostate cancer. A formula was calculated for each experiment to estimate the relationship between the injected volume and the volume of infiltrated prostate tissue area., Conclusions: Intraprostatic injection using a porous needle allows for effective and predictable tissue distribution of the injectate in the prostate. Purpose: The primary aim of the work was to evaluate the effect of physical training and pelvic floor muscle training combined with dual tasks (PFMT-DT) in older women on urgency urinary incontinence (UUI). The secondary aim of the work was to evaluate the impact of interventions on static and dynamic balance, risk of falls and fear of falls., Sample: The research sample consisted of 88 older women with UUI, with a mean age of 75 ± 4.3 years. They were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental (n = 40) and control (n = 40) groups., Methods: The duration of the intervention was 12 weeks. Both groups underwent physical training three times a week for 30 minutes. In addition, the experimental group received pelvic floor muscle training in different positions and with dual cognitive tasks two times a week for 30 minutes. We used The International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ-UI SF), the modified Voiding Diary, and the Overactive Bladder Questionnaire(OAB-q). The risk of falls were assessed according to Tinetti's Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment. Fear of falls was assessed by the Falls Efficacy Scale., Results: After the treatment, significant differences between groups were recorded in favor of the experimental group in the daytime frequency of voiding (7.6 to 5.3), in nycturia (2.1 to 0.7), in UUI (1.8 to 1.0), OAB-q SS (40.8 to 17.6) and OAB-q HR (61.2 to 83.8) (p ≤ 0.001), with large effect size (ES), as well as in the Tinetti balance and gait and in the fall risk assessment (19.2 to 23.2) (p ≤ 0.001), also with a large ES. For fear of falls, significant differences were noted (80.0 to 71.5) (p ≤ 0.05), with a small ES in favor of the experimental group., Conclusion: The PFMT-DT proved to be an effective intervention in improving the symptoms of OAB and UUI. We were able to significantly reduce the risk of falls according to POMA by about 21% (19.2 ± 2.7 to 23.20 ± 3.25%) in older women with UUI., (© 2021. Symptoms of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have typically late onset and correlate with its advanced stage. No biomarkers of RCC are currently available. The present study analyzed the immuno-biochemical profile of RCC by measuring the levels of cytokines engaged in RCC pathophysiology. Cytokines were examined by capture sandwich immunoassays in tumor tissue and urine. Specimens of cancer and nearby healthy kidney tissues were obtained during nephrectomy from 60 RCC patients. The urine was obtained from both patients and healthy subjects. The findings in RCC tumor tissue compared to healthy renal tissues were following: (i) increases in interleukin-15 (IL-15), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), interferon gamma-induced protein-10 (IP-10), macrophage inflammatory protein-1β (MIP-1β), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and eotaxin, with VEGF, IP-10, and MIP-1β significantly associated with the histologic tumor nuclear grading (NG); (ii) increases in platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), IL-15, MIP-1ß, eotaxin, and MCP-1 in urine, with significant associations noticed between cytokines and disease stages for eotaxin and MCP-1; and (iii) decreases in PDGF, IL-15, MCP-1, VEGF, MIP-1β, and eotaxin in urine from six patients on the third day after nephrectomy. We conclude that cytokines may play a critical role in the local pathogenesis of RCC, which opens the way for potential targeting of these molecules in novel therapies and their use as biomarkers for early noninvasive detection of RCC., (© 2022. Introduction: The effect of different intensities of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) assessed by 2D/3D ultrasound (USG) have not been sufficiently monitored in the literature. The objective of the study will be to evaluate the effect of this intervention by assessing the change in incontinence episode frequency, hiatal area (HA) and hiatal diameter by 2D/3D USG and quality of life over 12 weeks of treatment., Methods: Using a randomized interventional parallel study, patients will be assigned to groups A and B using simple software randomization according to odd and even patient sequence numbers. The following methods will be used for evaluation: change in incontinence episode frequency, power and endurance of pelvic floor muscles assessed by perineometer (in cmH2O), HA (in cm) during contraction, Valsalva manoeuvre assessed by 3D USG, hiatal diameter assessed by 2D USG, the Incontinence Quality of Life scale (I-QoL) and the Patient Global Impression of Improvement score (PGI-I)., Interventions: Group A, high-intensity PFMT 5 times a week for 30 minutes per day. Group B, low-intensity PFMT twice a week for 15 minutes per day. The duration of the intervention will be 12 weeks., Discussion: The study protocol presents the starting points, design, and methods of the PELSTAB Study. We expect that, after 12 weeks of high-intensity PFMT, women with stress urinary incontinence will have significantly less incontinence episode frequency, better reduction of HA during contraction and Valsalva manoeuvre, higher power and endurance of pelvic floor muscles and better quality of life compared to the group with low-intensity PFMT., Registration: This study was registered in the ClinicalTrials.govNCT04340323.

Introduction and Hypothesis: The effect of exercise in relation to overweight and overactive bladder (OAB) in young women has not been sufficiently supported by studies. The objective of our study was to reduce symptoms of OAB through a 3-month exercise programme in young overweight women with OAB. The sample consisted of 70 women (mean age 26.7 ± 4.8 years), 36 being treated and 34 in the control group., Methods: We used a body composition analyser with the assessment of skeletal muscle mass (SMM) (kg), body fat mass (BFM) (kg), body fat percentage (BFP) (%), visceral fat area (VFA) (cm²/level) and the waist/hip circumference index (WHR). OAB symptoms were evaluated using a voiding diary, the overactive bladder questionnaire (OAB-q) and the Patient Perception of Intensity of Urgency Scale (PPIUS). The intervention was a programme for the reduction of abdominal fat (PRAF), with elements of aerobic training, strengthening of the abdominal muscles and stretching., Results: In the OAB symptoms assessed through the voiding diary (number of voidings per 24 h, nocturia, mean voided volume) as well as in the OAB-q and PPIUS scales after training, significant differences were reported in favour of the treatment group [number of voidings per 24 h: treatment vs. control group, baseline 9.1 ± 0.3 vs. 8.6 ± 0.3, final 6.9 ± 0.2 vs. 8.1 ± 0.2, p < 0.0001; mean voided volume per 24 h (ml): treatment vs. control group, baseline 154.2 ± 9.1 vs. 162.2 ± 9.3, final 201.3 ± 9.3 vs. 164.1 ± 9.6, p < 0.0001] with a large effect size (ES). In the body composition analysis after training, significant differences were also reported in favour of the treatment group in the reduction of body mass index (BMI), BFP and VFA (p < 0.0001), with a large ES., Conclusions: Body composition analysis confirmed a reduction of BMI, body weight, body fat percentage, visceral abdominal fat, the WHR index and waist circumference in favour of the treatment group after the 12-week PRAF exercise programme. A reduction in OAB symptoms was also objectively confirmed following the PRAF exercise programme.

Background: Several authors have investigated the relationship between obesity - assessed only by body mass index (BMI) - and overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms., Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between body fat percentage (BFP) and the severity of OAB symptoms with an impact on quality of life., Design: Cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 206 overweight women; they were university students (BMI = 25.8 ± 3.0) with an average age of 30.6 ± 2.4 years. Body composition analysis was used, including assessment of BFP, visceral fat area (cm2/level), and other parameters. OAB symptoms were evaluated with an OAB questionnaire (OAB-q), voiding diary, and quality of life scale (I-QoL)., Results: Ninety women had a BFP >32% and 116 had a BFP <32%. The voiding diary and OAB-q confirmed significant differences in 24-h daytime and nighttime frequency of voiding and average urine volume during the day. The OAB-q symptom score was lower in the group with BFP <32%. I-QoL recorded significantly worse parameters in the group with BFP >32% (p < 0.01). The Patient Perception of Intensity of Urgency Scale significantly correlated with BFP (r = 0.466, p < 0.001). Women with a BFP above 32% had a 1.95 times greater chance of developing OAB (odds ratio = 1.95, 95% CI = 1.09-3.52, p < 0.02)., Conclusion: Young women with a BFP >32% were 95% more likely to have OAB than other young women with a BPF <32%., (© 2020 The Author(s) Published by S. Objectives: to investigate the effect of a 3-month exercise programme with two different intensities on the reduction of body weight and body fat percentage in overweight women with overactive bladder symptoms (OAB)., Study Design: randomised controlled study. The sample consisted of 77 overweight women with OAB symptoms, with an average age of 26.2 years. Body mass index (BMI) measurements confirmed if women were overweight. Participants were split into two groups, as follows: Group 1 (programme with high intensity) (n = 39) and group 2 (programme with low intensity) (n = 38). For evaluation of body composition, we used Bioelectric impedance analysis with assessment of body fat percentage (BFP) and visceral fat area (VFA). OAB symptoms were evaluated using a voiding diary, an overactive bladder questionnaire (OAB-q) and the Patient Perception of Intensity of Urgency Scale (PPIUS). The intervention was a Programme for Reduction of Abdominal Fat, aimed at reducing abdominal fat with elements of aerobic training, strengthening of the surface and deep abdominal muscles and stretching., Results: Group 1 lost body weight and showed a reduction in Body Fat Percentage (BFP) of more than 5%, whereas group 2 did not. Significant differences in OAB symptoms (p < 0.01) were recorded after training in favour of group 1 (number of voiding per 24 h changed from 8.92 ± 1.7 to 6.87 ± 0.40, OAB-q SS from 11.36 ± 8.57 to 1.46 ± 3.4). In the body composition assessment, significant differences (p < 0.001) were recorded after training in favour of group 1, in terms of BMI, BFP, WFA and body weight reduction., Conclusion: The high intensity exercise programme for reducing abdominal fat (PRAF) significantly reduces overweight and mild symptoms of OAB after 12 weeks., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. Objectives: To compare body composition in young overweight women with OAB compared to women without OAB, and to determine the severity of the symptoms of OAB, as well as to investigate the impact of OAB on quality of life., Study Design: Cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 1932 enrolled women classed as overweight (BMI:25-29.9).From this sample, 276 women were recruited. Of these, 206 women with an average age of 30.6 ± 20.4 years and an average BMI of 25.8 ± 3.0 were confirmed to be overweight. We used the Voiding Diary, the Overactive Bladder Questionnaire(OAB-q),and the Incontinence Quality of Life (I-QoL) scale. Body composition was measured using direct segmental multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis, with assessment of: skeletal muscle mass(kg)(SMM), body fat mass (kg)(BFM), body fat percentage (%)(BFP), visceral fat area (cm 2 /level)(VFA), and waist to hip ratio(WHR)., Results: The voiding diary and OAB-q results confirmed OAB in 102 women. There was no significant difference in BMI between groups. The body composition analysis showed significant differences in BFP, VFA, and WHR, with higher values in the OAB group(p < 0.01). SMM, however, was higher in the group without OAB(p < 0.01). Recorded I-QoL scores showed worse parameters in the OAB group(p < 0.001). Women with a body fat percentage above 32% have a 1.95 times greater chance of developing OAB. Objective: The objective of our study was to investigate the prevalence and risk of developing stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in each type of high-intensity sport, and the associated impact on quality of life in sportswomen., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between March and November 2016. The study included 278 sportswomen. The basic inclusion criteria were being nulliparous and engaging in high-intensity physical activity. The exclusion criteria were childbirth, surgical treatment of gynecological and urological illnesses and urinary tract infection. For evaluation were used: The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), The International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Urinary Incontinence (ICIQ-UISF), the Overactive Bladder Questionnaire (OAB-q), the Urinary Incontinence Quality of Life Scale (I-QOL)., Results: The highest percentage of SUI was found in athletes (23.8%), followed by volleyball players (19.6%). We found that cumulative metabolic equivalent (MET) did not affect SUI, but the type of sport did. The risk of SUI was highest in volleyball sportswomen (odds ratio[OR] = 2.16,95% confidence interval[CI] = 0.96-4.89, P < 0.05) and athletes (OR = 2.56,95%CI = 0.87-7.51, P = 0.08). As assessed by the I- QOL, SUI in people who participated in fitness and athletics (e.g., basketball, volleyball and handball) had a negative impact on quality of life including behavior, psychosocial impacts and social embarrassment score., Conclusion: Volleyball players have a 116% chance of getting SUI compared to women who play other types of sports that were analyzed as part of this study. Healthcare professionals should inform the population of sportswomen with risk factors for SUI in order to implement preventive physiotherapy for strengthening pelvic floor muscles., (© 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

Objective: The aim of the work was to validate the Slovak version of the CPC-28 questionnaire (Beliefs about Papanicolaou and Cervical Cancer)., Design: Original study., Setting: Department of Public Health, Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin, Comenius University in Bratislava, in co-operation with gynaecological centers in University Hospital Martin and district Martin, Slovakia., Methods: The original English version of the CPC-28 questionnaire was translated into Slovak language. The questionnaire consists of 28 statements divided into six domains. Cronbach´s alpha coefficient was used to analyse the internal consistency of the questionnaire. Construction validity was evaluated by using Pearsons correlation coefficient. The results were processed in the statistical programs Epi Info 7.1.5. and Statistica 13, p-values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant., Results: The Slovak version of the questionnaire was provided to 27 women. The women were given two questionnaires, and one of them was filled in immediately (test). After 14 days they filled in and returned second questionnaire (retest). The value of Cronbachs alpha was > 0.8 in all six domains which demonstrates the high internal consistency of the questionnaire. Pearsons coefficient was > 0.7 in all six domains and p-values < 0.001., Conclusion: The validated CPC-28 questionnaire in the Slovak language can be administered to women to collect data for identification of barriers to cervical cancer screening among women.

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to monitor the prevalence of symptoms of stress (SUI) and mixed urinary incontinence (MUI) in sportswomen performing high-impact exercises. A further objective was to compare the symptoms of urinary incontinence (UI) and quality of life in sportswomen. We used the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ-SF), the Overactive Bladder Questionnaire (OAB-q), the Urinary Incontinence Quality of Life Scale (I-QOL) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), short version. The group consisted of 503 sportswomen with a mean age of 21.1±3.6. The response rate was 71.15%. ICIQ-SF results confirmed mild difficulties with urine leakage in 72 (14.3%) sportswomen. Urinary leakage was not noted in 431 (85.7%) sportswomen. The OAB-q and I-QOL showed a significant difference, with pronounced symptoms of UUI and worse QOL in the group of sportswomen with urine leakage (p<0.000). The I-QOL recorded significantly worse parameters in the group of sportswomen with urine leakage (p<0.000). Prevalence of SUI was found in 68 (13.52%), and MUI was found in 4 (0.80%) sportswomen.
