The article presents an attempt to analyze the main means of metaphorical representation of the Chinese police in the Internet discourse and to reveal the correlation between the generated vector of perception of the police and the data provided in the reports on the China Police Trust Index (or the “transparency index”).

The article examines the expansion of the metaphors of the source domain “Inanimate Nature” into the target domain of the “Black Lives Matter movement”. The study analyzes a corpus of 150 metaphors used to describe the BLM protesters by the Seattle Times journalists in the period from May to September 2020. The research methodology is based on the cognitive-discursive approach to metaphor analysis.

В статье рассматривается смысловое содержание стратегии возрождения сельской местности Китая. The study of linguistic landscapes is most often based on materials from urban settlements, due to the high concentration of population, diverse objects and street signs, billboards and public signage of government buildings. At the same time, relatively few studies have been carried out on the linguistic landscapes of rural areas. This paper focuses on propaganda slogans posted in rural areas of mainland China. Three types of “rural revitalization” signage in China are chosen as examples. The article analyzes the development history and semantic content of the rural revitalization strategy. Using the method of multimodal metaphorical analysis, the authors analyze the specific features and regular patterns of language use in the real Chinese rural environment.

The aim of the study is to demonstrate the importance of translation adaptation while translating political metaphors, as well as to reveal the translation strategy of translating political metaphors into Russian and the communicative intentions of the Chinese government realized through it.

The paper examines how such a phenomenon as politics is categorized and metaphorized in twenty Englishes. The study also suggests different ways of using various methods of computer analysis when working with corpus data.

В статье рассматривается репрезентация образа Японии, формируемого средствами массовой информации в сознании американского социума. The article is a systematic review of the history of the study of the representation of the image of Japan formed by means of the mass media in the consciousness of American society. The research describes and analyzes the works of modern domestic, as well as Western and Japanese researchers, which have not been translated into Russian before. A comprehensive analysis of the evolution of the image of Japan from the end of the 19th century to the 90s of the 20th century is proposed. To more accurately identify the causal-consecutive relationships between the events that took place and the ways of their representation, the entire period was divided into several stages: the late 19th century, the Russian-Japanese War of 1904-1905, the First and the Second World Wars, and the 70-90s of the 20th century. The author pays special attention to the specificity of the linguistic representation of the events that Japan was involved in during this period.

The election campaigns of the last decades are known for their massive shifts to the sphere of virtual communication. This tendency leads to the need for searching effective means of establishing contact with each voter under the circumstances of mediated communication to exercise further manipulative, suggestive and persuasive influence on them. The article examines metaphor as one of the main tools of verbal manipulation in the genre of political e-mailing. The theoretical foundation of the study rests on the conceptual metaphor theory. The aim of the research is to identify the metaphorical models and the specificity of their functioning in the genre of political e-mailing.

Статья посвящена анализу методических основ изучения метафорических моделей концепта «патриотизм» в китайской аудитории. Актуальность исследования обусловлена формированием инофонов в процессе обучения русскому языку как иностранному (РКИ) в поликультурную языковую личность. Изучение русского языка как иностранного китайскими студентами-филологами предполагает владение большим словарным запасом – лексическим минимумом, соответствующим сертификационному уровню ТРКИ-3. Цель исследования – разработка методических основ обучения китайских студентов-филологов, выработка у них навыков и умений в понимании и использовании метафорических моделей на примере концепта «патриотизм». Научная новизна исследования связана с тем, что впервые сформулированы методические основы в обучении китайской аудитории русскому языку как иностранному через понимание метафорических моделей концепта патриотизм. После апробирования авторской программы РКИ в ходе констатирующего эксперимента среди китайских студентов-филологов были выявлены типичные ошибки и трудности в усвоении учебного материала у инофонов, и на основе полученных результатов внесены изменения в авторскую программу, разработаны тестовые задания для проведения итогового контроля. Практическая значимость исследования заключается в том, что разработанная авторская программа РКИ, содержащая теоретические материалы, упражнения для самостоятельной работы и тестовые задания, способствует совершенствованию навыков китайской аудитории в усвоении многозначности базовых концептов русского языка через изучение их метафорических моделей., The article presents an analysis of the methodological bases for studying metaphorical models of the concept of patriotism in the Chinese community. The study of Russian as a foreign language (RFL) by Chinese students of philology presupposes the possession of a large vocabulary – a lexical minimum corresponding to the certification of the third level. The main aim of this research is to develop methodological bases for teaching Chinese philology students, developing their skills and abilities in understanding and using metaphorical models on the example of the concept of patriotism. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time the methodological foundations are formulated in teaching the Chinese students Russian as a foreign language through the understanding of metaphorical models of the concept of patriotism. After testing the author’s program in the course of a ascertaining experiment among Chinese philology students, typical mistakes and difficulties in mastering educational material from foreign speakers are revealed, and based on the results obtained, changes are made to the author’s program, test tasks are developed for final control. The practical significance of the researching is concerned with author’s contribution in the studying of Russian as a foreign language. Presented article contains theoretical materials, exercises for independent work and test tasks and helps to improve the skills of the Chinese audience in mastering the ambiguity of the basic concepts of the Russian language through the study of their metaphorical models.

В статье рассматриваются коренные ценности китайского социализма, выраженные с помощью мультимодальных метафор. The article deals with the topics studied rarely both in China and Russia. The main focus of the research of multimodal metaphors lies on the introduction to the theory of the problem. The scope of research covers the linguistic landscape in terms of reflection of the core values of the Chinese socialism. The material for practical analysis in this paper is constituted by park elements (trees) and posters in residential areas. The article summarizes and semantically analyzes 12 words and word combinations denoting Chinese socialist values, such as富强 (power of the country), 民主 (democracy), 文明 (civilization), 和谐 (harmony), 自由 (freedom), 平等 (equality), 公正 (justice), 法治 (rule of law), 爱国 (patriotism), 敬业 (dedication to work), 诚信 (good faith and sincerity) and 友善 (friendship). They reflect the core values on three levels - official, social and civil.

There emerge metaphors of different modalities, such as visual (pictures) and auditory (sounds); and if necessary, multimodal metaphors can also be formed. Due to the fact that metonymy acts as a cognitive mechanism of the human brain, some research on multimodal metonymy has emerged. In the field of linguistics, the study of multimodal metaphor and metonymy is a new topic of discourse analysis, and this research object has also shifted from the area of verbal metaphor and metonymy to multimodal metaphor and metonymy. The scope of research of this paper covers a series of cartoons published in a specialized section of the news portal China Daily. The author discusses the role of multimodal metaphor and metonymy in Chinese anti-pandemic cartoons, and examines the main types of multimodal metaphors in them.

В статье рассматриваются когнитивно-дискурсивные закономерности репрезентации образа настоящего и будущего России во французском дискурсе массмедиа. Current political events reflected in the modern media testify to a new round of deterioration in relations between Russia and Western countries. Against this background, it seems an urgent task to address the problem of identifying the features of the metaphorical image of Russia and its future in the world media, aimed at finding the specific features of the perception of our country abroad. The aim of the study is to reveal the cognitive-discursive specificity of the representation of the image of Russia and its future in the French mass media discourse. To achieve this goal, the method of analyzing metaphors united by the target domain of metaphorical expansion was used.
