Climate change presents a pressing challenge today, intertwined with complex risks like natural hazards and ecosystem degradation, potentially endangering populations. The paper discusses the challenges posed by climate change in the Republic of Serbia, highlighting the need for improved awareness and readiness to plan and execute climate adaptation strategies. It covers various strategic frameworks and international agreements related to climate change adaptation, emphasising the country’s alignment with global initiatives such as the Paris Agreement and the EU’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. The analysis suggests the importance of enhancing institutional capacities, fostering collaboration, and prioritising comprehensive adaptation measures to effectively address the impacts of climate change in Serbia. The City Library and Museum was founded in Pančevo in 1924. It worked successfully until the Second World War, had stable financing, relatively professional staff and numerous readers. In the period between the two world wars, it was one of four active city libraries in Vojvodina and one of seven in the whole of Serbia. Based on the available literature and source documents, the author tried to shed some light on the prehistory of the City Library of Pančevo, to answer the question of why it was not possible to establish it earlier, to determine the earliest date when the first lending libraries could be founded, and to establish their connection with the City Library of Pančevo. The conclusion was that possibly the first reading rooms and libraries were formed at the beginning of the 19th century, at the earliest. Then, the Austrian Empire finally banished the Ottoman army from the Pančevo region and it was possible to start with the continuous economic, social and cultural development of the city. The author paid attention to the library of the German-Banat Frontier Regiment which was one of the biggest and best-organised libraries in the years immediately before dismantling the Military Frontier (Kraina) in 1872. On the eve of the dismantling of the Frontier, after various Serbian cassinas and reading rooms, the library of the Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality was founded. Local cuisine is one of the foundations for how Serbian rural communities are presented to tourists. The desire for regional cuisine has recently increased, which has created opportunities for the promotion of regional and, most importantly, traditional production. The changing behaviours of travellers, who are becoming more conscious of the value of authenticity and quality when travelling, offer opportunities for rural areas to thrive while also creating a new horizon for tourism centered on the discovery of traditional cuisine and rural communities. This kind of travel can be compared to slow travel, which was developed in conjunction with the Slow Food movement. The Slow Food movement is a political and cultural movement with the goal of opposing the industrialisation of food production, promoting locally made, high-quality, sustainable food, and making a significant contribution to rural areas. Three guiding principles – good, clean, and fair – define what food should be and form the foundation of this movement. The major objective of this paper is to present the driving elements that have the biggest impact on tourists’ enthusiasm to visit rural tourist houses in Serbia. The research also seeks to determine how much the respondents’ desire to return to Serbia’s rural tourist households is influenced by motivating factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The post-pandemic period has seen large financial losses in the economy of the entire world, but particularly in the tourism industry. Covid-19 significantly influenced changes in the behaviour of tourists, including the increasing level of health risk perception. The aim of this research is to examine the impact of health risk perception on the intentions and travel decisions of Serbian tourists after the Covid-19 pandemic. The importance of the research lies in the intention to determine whether there is a difference in the perception of health risks based on demographic and economic variables. The results of the empirical research conducted on the territory of the Republic of Serbia indicate that age and the level of income are two significant predictors of fears and intentions to travel after the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the results, it will be possible to predict future tourist movements in Serbia and abroad, taking into account the changes in the behaviour of tourists in the post-pandemic period. The Russian public library that existed in Belgrade between the two world wars was the second-largest Russian library outside of Russia. It began its life as a modest library of the All-Russian Union of Cities. Its expansion was after 1928 when it came under the supervision of the newly established Russian Committee for Culture. It survived the Second World War, during which it took the title of the largest Russian library outside of Russia. The library officially stopped working after the liberation of Belgrade from the German occupation and the takeover of the Russian House building by the Soviet Union. The rich collection of the library slowly disappeared till the eighties of the last century. This paper aims to draw the attention of librarians and the general public to the institution that represented one of the important factors of the cultural life of Belgrade until the end of the Second World War. Меморијализацијата на Првата светска војна во современата српска култура илустрира како овој процес зависел од актуелните политички и општествени трендови. Од 1980 година до денес, споменот на Првата светска војна е ревитализиран преку подигање на бројни споменици. Во текот на 1980-тите и 1990-тите имаше наплив на подигање споменици на воените водачи. Тоа претставуваше јасен знак за милитаризација на српското општество.

Демографски, привредни, културни и историјски центар Метохије имао је дугу традицију мултиетничности и мултикултуралности. У њему су се генерацијама преплитале разне цивилизације, народи и конфесије. Парадигматично је да призренска чаршија као баштиник занатског и трговачког живота никада није имала организовану односно бројнију јеврејску заједницу. У разним историјским епохама само су ретки појединци и малобројне породице краткорочно или стално настањивале овај средњовековни урбани и архитектонски бисер, баш као и читаво подручје плодне Метохије. Упркос изостајању јеврејског институционалног живота у Призрену су се сукцесивно досељавали и у њему проводили одређени период живота многобројни Јевреји са простора Аустроугарске и југословенске државе. Својим професионалним умећем и друштвеним активизмом оставили су трајан и неизбрисив траг и значај за општи локални развој средине коју су својевољно или стицајем друштвених околности прихватили за своје пребивалиште. Њихово присуство оплеменило је различите сфере јавног живота, почевши од здравствених преко просветних до економских. У раду ће бити приказано хронолошко бивствовање и социјална улога ретких јеврејских становника града на Бистрици.

The paper analyses the textile industry trade competitiveness of nine European transition economies (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia), in parts and in its entirety, by using the following indicators: Revealed comparative advantage (RCA), Competitiveness growth index (RCA1), Index of net business performance (RCA2), and Michaely index (MI). The analysis focuses on the period between 1995 and 2018. The results of the analysis show that the textile industry of Northern Macedonia is internationally competitive, and that most countries have revealed comparative advantages. The textile industry contributed to the surplus in trade balance in North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Romania, while North Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia achieved some level of production specialization. It was also confirmed that these countries had statistically different levels of trade competitiveness. This study aimed to determine part-time teachers’ attitudes (based on a sample of respondents from the Republic of Serbia) (N=727) about school climate and job satisfaction; it also aimed to examine the nature, level, and intensity of the connection between these two complex variables. To examine such attitudes, we used several questionnaires on school climate and job satisfaction extracted from the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS), 2013. Based on the instrument we utilised, the school climate could be categorised and studied as a two-component dimension reflecting two aspects of part-time teachers’ school life: general school issues, and issues related to students’ needs and well-being. We concluded that there is a significant correlation between part-time teachers’ school climate and job satisfaction. School climate explains 27% of the job satisfaction variance, indicating the importance of the observed regression relationship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper analyses the publishing activities in Serbian librarianship and related disciplines from 2010 to 2022. The analysis includes monographs available in the electronic catalogue of the National Library of Serbia and the union catalogue COBIB.SR. The data on the number of published titles by year of publication, the languages represented, the number of translations, the publishers, and publication places are presented. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the covered topics. The largest thematic groups – “Bibliographies, catalogues” and “Librarianship” – are analysed in more detail. The Historical Institute was founded in 1947 under the auspices of the Serbian Academy of Sciences, with the task of studying the economic, social, political and cultural history of Serbian people, as well as its connections with the South Slavic and other Balkan nations. Until 1961, the Institute of History was a part of the Serbian Academy of Sciences, and then, by the decision of the Government of Serbia, it was separated as an indepedent institution. The Library of the Historical Institute in Belgrade, one of the best-equipped libraries for the history of Serbia and the Balkan Peninsula, celebrates its 75th anniversary. It started working in 1947, shortly after the establishment of the Institute. The main part of the library collection are publications related to the history of the Serbian people in the period from the immigration of the Slavs to the Balkan Peninsula until the beginning of the Second World War. There are also a lot of books and journals from related scientific disciplines: ethnology, archaeology, history of art, philology, history of literature. The beginnings of the library holdings were personal libraries of Jovan Tomić, Stanojе Stanojević, Viljem Bukšek, and Mihailo Ristić. In addition to these purchased libraries, the fund was enlarging by bequests from former associates of the Historical Institute. Today, the Library has a collection of about 68,000 library items. The fund is growing by exchanges with 54 domestic and 64 foreign institutions. The Library has a collection of old and rare books and historical-geographical maps. The Library of the Historical Institute is a special type of library, primarily serving associates of the Historical Institute. Чланак анализира најважније догађаје који су се десили у јужном делу СФРЈ након смрти маршала Јосипа Броза Тита. У њему се прати албанска побуна у аутономној покрајини Косово, као и њене последице. Такође, указано је и на појаве национализма у федералној држави и супротностима између богатог севера и сиромашног југа. Упоредо са тим, оцртавају се контуре „феномена Милошевић“ који је пробудио наде многих Срба који су тражили повратак националног достојанства. У том контексту, пажња је фокусирана на улогу југословенског југа као катализатора међунационалних конфликата у федералној држави који су довели до њеног краја.

На основу архивских извора, мемоарских списа, штампе и релевантне литературе, у раду се анализирају погледи Српске радикалне странке Милана Стојадиновића на питање граница Србије након споразума Цветковић–Мачек августа 1939, као и у времену током педесетих година 20. века када је странка деловала у емиграцији. У чланку се сагледавају услови који су довели до таквих ставова, како они унутрашњи и спољни, тако и лични, везани за самог председника странке Стојадиновића.

У историји Србије штампи припада посебно место, јер су први њени листови, заправо, старији од обнављања и признавања саме државе. Отуда је сасвим јасно да се новија историја српског народа не може ваљано упознати ако сe претходно не проуче путеви развоја српске штампе. Овом темом у прошлости бавили су се многи познати научници и историчари – Стојан Новаковић, Јован Скерлић, Душан Вуксан, Светислав Шумаревић, Вук Драговић, Михајло Бјелица, Василије Крестић, као и бројни истраживачи окупљени у Институту за новинарство и Удружењу новинара Србије. Занимљиво је, међутим, да до данашњих дана на југу централне Србије, у Нишу и околини, нема довољно радова на ову тему, а посебно не оних који би се бавили анализом и обрадом, а још мање синтезом прикупљених података о штампи у овом делу државе Србије. Нека од најзначајнијих имена која су обележила истраживања развоја штампе у Нишу припадају Живојину Дачићу, Јовану Скерлићу, Јеремији Живановићу, Бруни Ловрићу, Владимиру Николићу, Михајлу Палигорићу, Ивану Вучковићу и Драгољубу Мирчетићу. Овај рад не пледира да се бави целокупном грађом која се односи на развој нишке штампе, али би могао да буде подстрек младим истраживачима да крену у суштинске анализе података до којих се може доћи.

Рад се бави сукобима Срба и Бугара у области Вардарске долине у периоду од 1885. до 1903. године. Решавањем питања Вардарске долине, у српску или бугарску корист, једна од ових земаља би у своје руке добила „кључ Балкана“. И Србија и Бугарска истицале су у своју корист разлоге који су се темељили на историјским, етничким и политичким упориштима. Бугарска је своје претензије заснивала на последицама егзаргхата и територијама из Сан-Стефанског мира, а Србија на живој средњовековној делатности осведоченој српским задужбинама, језичкој сродности и раширености славе – типичног српског обележја. Стога је Бугарска приступила оружаном терору оснивајући илегалне организације ВМРО и ВМОК. Велика опасност је претила од бугарских националиста који су 1897. године у Солуну основали „Друштво за убијање Срба“. Србија није успевала да дипломатским средствима обезбеди заштиту живота и имовине Срба у Вардарској долини. Поред званичних одбијања да и Србија створи своју револуционарну организацију и узврати Бугарима истом мером, ипак су у периоду од 1897. до 1901. године у Вардарској долини деловале српске чете. У Београду је ангажовањем др Милорада Гођевца, шефа лекара београдске општине, дошло до стварања Српске четничке организације. Учестала убиства и масакри виђених Срба у Вардарској долини, убрзали су његов рад на остварању ове идеје.

Throughout the past decade, sustainability has been one of the most important topics among academics and within the business community. The adoption of ESG practice and the creation of holistic business models is on the agenda of the entire financial industry, predominantly among banking and investment entities. The paper aims to analyse the regulatory framework and current practice of sustainable business models with respect to the most important international banks operating within the Serbian economy. The analysis encompasses the descriptive assessment of ESG regulations, the reporting framework in the sustainability domain, and the quantitative analysis of ESG metrics and their statistical relationship with banks’ financial performance. Due to various limitations, such as a lack of quantitative metrics and an unstandardized reporting practice, research was performed on a sample of four international banks operating in Serbia, for the period between the years 2015 and 2021. The statistical results of the regression analysis do not show a significant relationship between ESG metrics and the financial performance of the examined banks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyses the direction and intensity of the impact of economic trends on the profitability of banks in Serbia and Croatia in the period between the years 2006 and 2021. This paper aims to determine which indicators of economic trends have the most substantial impact on the profitability of banks in the selected countries. As key indicators of economic trends, GDP per capita, the GDP growth rate, inflation rate, real interest rate, broad money growth, general government final consumption expenditure, current account balance, gross savings, trade, and unemployment are selected as independent variables. At the same time, bank profitability was measured with bank return on equity, in percentages (ROE), and bank return on assets, in percentages (ROA) – two indicators which represent the dependent variables selected for this research. Descriptive analysis, mean difference, correlation, and univariate and multivariate regression were used in the research. Research results show that changes in real interest rates and unemployment have a significant impact on the profitability of banks in both of the selected countries, while changes in GDP per capita growth have a statistically significant effect only in Serbia, and general government final consumption expenditure has a statistically significant impact only in Croatia. У раду се на основу доступних објављених и необјављених архивских извора, као и историографске и мемоарске литературе, представља војничка и ратничка биографија генерала Љубомира Милића који је током првог дела Великог рата командовао Моравском дивизијом другог позива. Командујући групом дивизија српске Друге армије, у јесен 1915. је код Лесковца успео да заустави бугарско надирање и спаси српску војску од окружења и последичног уништења. Један је од најпознатијих и најпрослављенијих српских војних команданата епохе ратова за ослобођење и уједињење (1912-1918)

Herbaria as botanical collections have an interesting historical background. What was considered a traditional old-school field of science in the 20th century has become one of the focal points of interest in new-age science at the beginning of the 21st century, closely related to biodiversity, molecular screening and many other topics. Following the trend of rediscovering botanical collections, the Serbian scientific community invested in the process of acknowledging, renewing and presenting collections of national importance. The herbarium of the Sremski Karlovci Grammar School, protected under the name "Herbarium of Andreas Wolny", is the oldest herbarium collection in Serbia, dating back to the 18th century. It was established as a collection for obvious and practical teaching, but it grew beyond this scope due to the first systematic discoveries of the plant species of Srem and Fruška Gora Mountain. The most famous collector is Andreas Wolny, but besides him important teachers and botanists are Кarl Georg Rumy, Grigorije Lazić, Dimitrije Petrović, Teofil Dimić and Jovan K. Borjanović. Although only a few data are of floristic importance (data that include both the location and date of collection), there is no doubt about the botanical and historical importance of this collection. Moreover, this botanical collection provides an overview of the events under which education and the first scientific and museum collections were developed in Serbia during the 18th and 19th centuries, and is thus an important cultural-historical document. The company Trepča, which was founded during the time of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, was a significant economic factor during its stormy history, and it was often at the top by importance in the country at that time. This paper is the result of a multidisciplinary methodological approach to the study of the mentioned topic. The results of the research on the contribution of the work of Trepča to the overall economic activity in the period from its foundation in the late twenties to the mid-fifties of the 20th century were presented. Research includes knowledge about business operations in various conditions that occurred in the given chronological framework. On the basis of primary sources, and the published sources, literature and the press, we tried to present a credible contribution to knowledge, with an accent on the topic of the economic importance of the activities of this company within the framework of the country at that time. The area of Kosovo and Metohija represents the political, religious, economic and cultural center of the medieval Serbian state from the beginning of the 14th century until the Battle of Marica in 1371. The aim of this paper is to present to what extent the topics related exclusively to this space are present in scientific works in the last thirty years, which is an indicator of the attention paid to it in Serbian medieval studies in general. The promotion of fortified towns, as Serbia’s significant cultural heritage, represents a major element of tourism development. The main goals of this paper are to highlight the tourism potential of fortifications in Serbia and to investigate the prospect of creating a cultural route of fortified towns. The route is comprised of six fortresses. This article applies CREM (Cultural Route Evaluation Model) to assess the tourism potential of fortified towns and the possibility of linking them in a thematic route. The CREM model provided principal information about the possibilities of developing cultural routes, and details about the sites’ requirements. Furthermore, it identified the main areas in need of improvement at each fortress to be visited by a substantial number of tourists in the upcoming period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
