This research is the first comprehensive analysis of the intrageneric relationships inside the subfamily Cryptogrammoideae: 14 taxa of Coniogrammeand one species of Cryptogramma were involved additionally in the molecular phylogenetic studies based on rbcL gene of plastid DNA; spore morphology of 32 taxa of cryptogrammoid ferns, namely 22 taxa of Coniogramme, nine species of Cryptogramma and one species of Llavea were studied using scanning electronic microscopy (SEM); 31 taxon of Cryptogrammoideae were studied using herbarium data from Herbaria across Europe and Asia (P, PE, LE, VLA, ALTB, TK) according to global botanical and geographical zones. As a result of this comprehensive analysis, we established a deep divergence of Coniogramme merillii in Coniogramme superclade: this species is the sister lineage to the remainder ofConiogramme. We revealed also the separateness of Co. suprapilosa from Co. rosthornii and Co. longissima, Co.africana from Co. lanceolata and Co. fraxinea, Co. robusta from Co. jinggangshanensis, Co. wilsonii and Co.japonica. Among Cryptogramma species, the relationship of Far Eastern Cr. gorovoi with Cr. crispa from the Caucasus and the Turkish endemic Cr. bithynica but not with any Far Eastern species was revealed. Spores of Coniogramme are characterized by simple smooth, granulate and papillate macro-ornamentation, spores of Cryptogramma species have the more coarse colliculate or tuberculate macro-ornamentation. Peculiarities of macro-ornamentation allow us to define six spore types in cryptogrammoid ferns: four spore types in Coniogramme and two spore types in Cryptogramma; the same spore type we assigned for Llavea cordifolia and Coniogramme suprapilosa. In Coniogramme, the grouping of species attending the spore type does not agree with existing classification and phylogenetic hypotheses. Genetic separateness of Co. suprapilosa corresponds with its exceptional verrucate spore sculpture not found in other Coniogramme species. In Cryptogramma, the grouping on the spore types corresponds with other morphological characteristics, existing system and molecular phylogeny. Spore ornamentation has diagnostic value in the recognition of cryptogrammoid taxa at the generic and section (in Cryptogramma) level. Sino-Japanese and Sino-Himalaian regions of Eastern Asiatic Subkingdom are the centers of origin and diversity for subfamily Cryptogrammoideae and especially for the genus Coniogramme., Представлен первый комплексный анализ родственных отношений в подсемействе Cryptogrammoideae: 14 таксонов Coniogramme и один вид Cryptogramma были дополнительно привлечены к молекулярно-филогенетическим исследованиям на основе гена rbcL пластидной ДНК; с применением метода сканирующей электронной микроскопии (СЭМ) изучены споры 32 таксонов криптограммоидных папоротников, выявлено распространение 31 таксона Cryptogrammoideae в соответствии с глобальным ботанико-географическим районированием с использованием данных из Гербариев Европы и Азии (P, PE, LE, VLA, ALTB, TK). Генетическая обособленность Co. suprapilosa соотносится с необнаруженной у других видов Coniogramme бородавчатой скульптурой спор. В роде Cryptogramma группировка видов по типу спор согласуется с морфологическим характеристиками, существующей системой и молекулярной филогенией. Скульптура спор имеет диагностическое значение при распознавании таксонов криптограммоидных папоротников на родовом и секционном (в роде Cryptogramma) уровне. Центрами происхождения и разнообразия подсемейства Cryptogrammoideae, особенно рода Coniogramme, являются китайско-японский и китайско-гималайский регионы Восточноазиатского подцарства.

[Aim] The afroalpine sky-islands present one of the most interesting models to study discrete biogeographic patterns in a terrestrial island system. Here, we performed range-wide sampling of the afroalpine clade of fine-leaved Festuca grasses and address a set of hypotheses on its origin and dispersal. We focus on the widespread species F. abyssinica and explore the role of the eastern and western African sky-islands., [Location] Tropical Africa, [Taxon] Afroalpine Festuca, [Methods] We combine data from field surveys, phylogeography, coalescence-based dispersal modelling, and environmental niche and dispersal costs analyses to infer patterns of genetic diversity, genealogical relationships, colonization routes and range shifts under two Quaternary climates (current – to represent warm periods; and Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) – to represent cold periods)., [Results] The westernmost populations in East Africa show higher genetic diversity and higher similarities with the West African populations and the Ethiopian Simen Mountains than with the more closely situated East African populations. Dispersal models and ecological niche predictions of F. abyssinica supported multiple long-distance dispersals (LDD) among the eastern African sky-islands, and at least two dispersal events between the two sides of Africa (0.86 Ma and 0.52 Ma), probably facilitated by bridging suitable habitats during the coldest periods of the Pleistocene., [Main conclusions] We reconstruct an afroalpine mountain-hopping dispersal model, with migrations occurring between adjacent sky-islands in eastern Africa, and through a Central Africa–Sudan pathway connecting afroalpine patches on the two sides of the continent., The work was supported by the Spanish MINECO CGL2012-39953-C02-01 and the Norwegian NUFU 2007/1058 grant projects to PC and CB respectively. Cestodes Paranoplocephala kalelai, which parasitizes in the small intestine of Myodes voles and is distributed in northern Fennoscandia, was found in six habitats in the Asian part of Russia and eastern Kazakhstan, which indicates a wider distribution of P. kalelai on the continent. Analysis of mtDNA showed that P. kalelai is characterized by significant molecular variability in Eurasia. This study complements the data on the distribution of P. kalelai and provides the first molecular data from the territory of Russia and Kazakhstan. The sequence variability of two mitochondrial genes cox1 and nad1 of P. kalelai was studied in two species of voles: gray red-backed Myodes rufocanus and northern red-backed vole Myodes rutilus. Five haplotype groups in the cox1 and nad1 gene networks were identified, and the existence of two mtDNA lines in P. kalelai outside northern Fennoscandia was confirmed. The geographical distribution of the identified haplotypes suggests that the foothills of the Altai-Sayan mountains and southern West Siberia may serve as a refugium for P. kalelai during repeated glaciations.

The sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus Linnaeus, 1758) is a relatively small sturgeon widely distributed in Eurasian rivers from the Danube to the Yenisei. During the twentieth century, all wild sterlet populations have declined due to anthropogenic factors including: overfishing, poaching, construction of dams, and pollution. Despite the necessity of characterization both wild and captive stocks, few studies of population genetics have been performed thus far. Here we studied the genetic diversity and geographic structure of sterlet populations across the eastern range – Ob-Irtysh and Yenisei basins – by sequencing a 628-bp fragment of mitochondrial DNA control region. We identified 98 new haplotypes, delineated 12 haplogroups and estimated the time of basal haplogroup divergence within the species as over 8 million years ago. Our data suggest that Ob-Irtysh and Yenisei populations are isolated from each other and much lower genetic diversity is present in the Yenisei population than in the Ob-Irtysh population. Our data imply that sterlet populations in Siberian rivers underwent bottleneck or fragmentation, followed by subsequent population expansion. The data obtained here are important for sterlet population monitoring and restocking management.

Две из них представляли восточные популяции из Байкальского ареала и Восточной Монголии, две группы занимали центральную область (Западная Бурятия, Центральная и Западная Монголия и Тува), а последняя представляла западные популяции с Алтая., We analyzed the polymorphism of the mtDNA control region in Urocitellus undulatus to study phylogeography and genetic structure of this species in Altai, Tuva, Mongolia, Buriatia and Baikal region. Проведенный анализ полиморфизма контрольного региона митохондриальной ДНК длиннохвостых сусликов, обитающих в северной части Центральной Азии на территории Горного Алтая (45 особей из 23 локалитетов), показал наличие двух генетически дифференцированных (7.7% различий) и географически обособленных линий — “западной” и “восточной”. Полученные данные опровергают гипотезу об однонаправленном, с запада на восток, заселении Алтайских гор после окончания последнего ледникового максимума и свидетельствуют о двух путях заселения сусликами Алтая — как из западных, так и из восточных рефугиумов.

The genus Rutilus is a widely distributed lineage of cyprinids and ranges from West Europe to East Siberia. Although matrilineal phylogeny and phylogeography of western species were already studied, roaches from remaining part of the range were not examined. Phylogenetic analysis based on cytochrome b sequences detected the following three major phylogenetic clades: (i) R. frisii, (ii) R. rutilus s. str., and (iii) group of six Ponto–Caspian taxa: R. caspicus, R. heckelii, R. rutilus aralensis, R. rutilus lacustris, R. schelkovnikovi, and R. stoumboudae. Our results suggest that these “species” within Ponto–Caspian clade could be a single species (R. lacustris by priority of description). The Ponto–Caspian clade is most widely distributed among others and covers the freshwaters from the Aegean Sea basin to Laptev Sea tributaries. Both R. rutilus s. str. and Ponto–Caspian clades sympatrically occur in Black Sea and Caspian Sea basins, Azov Sea itself, and even in drainage of White Sea. The vastest zone of contact (approximately 1700 km) was detected in the Volga basin. The spatial pattern of haplotype diversity and the shape of haplotype network argued for multiple refugia in Ponto–Caspian region as well as a rapid post-glacial colonization of Volga River and Siberia.

The author criticizes some hypotheses of amphibians and reptiles occurrence and expansion, including those on the basis of data phylogeography interpretation,suggested by herpetologists. Using molecular data, it is impossible to define, where subspecies has appeared and how its area varied. The method of definition of species appearance time requires very serious correlation by means of paleontological data. It is also impossible to identify approximate time of the subspecies occurrence, defined by molecular data, with the time of its modern area occupation. We can assume it, analyzing paleontological findings and paleogeographical conditions at that time, but not vice versa.

Phylogenetic analysis using mitochondrial and nuclear DNA markers showed that the Least Cisco gradually spread from Siberia to Europe until the last glaciation. This was accompanied by gradual replacement of "typically Siberian" gene variants with "typically European" ones. Morphological traits also changed as the species expanded, the changes in the body proportions being apparently adaptive. They are likely to reflect the transition of the cisco from the semi-anadromous life history type to the lacustrine type, which is more characteristic of the European form. Thus, the speciation of the vendace is clearly adaptive, at least with respect to some traits. It should be noted, however, that the results of this study raise doubt as to whether the vendace has entirely diverged from the Least Cisco, and the speciation has completed.

Филогенетическая структура представителей рода Neogobius была изучена на основе анализа изменчивости гена цитохрома b. Показаны значительные различия в уровне дивергенции между черноморскими и каспийскими популяциями N. fluviatilis и N. melanostomus. В качестве основной причины формирования наблюдаемой картины дивергенции рассматривается серия геоморфологических преобразований Понто-Каспийского бассейна., Phylogenetic structure of the genus Neogobius is studied by analyzing of the variability of cytochrome b. Significant differences in the level of divergence between the Black Sea and the Caspian population of N. fluviatilis and N. melanostomus are showed. As the main reason for the formation of the observed pattern of divergence a series of geomorphic change of the Ponto-Caspian basin is considered.

Clonorchis sinensis относится к эпидемиологически значимым трематодам, так как способен паразитировать у человека, вызывая хроническое заболевание -клонорхоз. В России данный вид встречается только в бассейне р. Амур. В работе впервые исследуется генетическое разнообразие C. sinensis в российской части его ареала с использованием стандартного маркерного фрагмента ДНК -внутреннего транскрибируемого спейсера 1. Были проанализированы 52 особи из пяти отдаленных географических точек, расположенных в Хабаровском и Приморском краях. Полиморфизм маркерного фрагмента исследовался путем анализа данных секвенирования ДНК. Расчет стандартных статистических индексов показал низкое генетическое разнообразие C. sinensis на исследуемой территории. Значение индекса Fst свидетельствует о низкой степени дифференциации изученных популяций. Анализ распределения попарных нуклеотидных различий предполагает недавнее изменение численности вида. Выдвинуто предположение об относительно позднем заселении клонорхом Приморья в результате человеческих миграций.
