Fan noise prediction method using unsteady CFD analysis has been developed. It is a hybrid scheme of CFD and linear theory, in which fan noise sources are predicted by unsteady 3D CFD analysis and acoustic power levels in a fan duct are predicted by 3D linear theory. Distributions of fan noise sources predicted by 3D CFD analysis are compared with 2D and 3D linear theory. NAL introduces a new supercomputer system called Numerical Simulator 3 (NS3) October 2002 whose peak performance is 9.3 TFLOPS with 3.6 TB user memory. In this paper, the performance evaluation results for NS3, particularly for the Central NS System called CeNSS, are shown. This paper describes a newly constructed Numerical Aeroelasticity Testing and Assessment System (NATAS) and outlines involved analytical programs. The NASTAS integrates these separately developed codes into a single network system and creates a new computational environment common to all the codes. This particular activity is focused on the objective that the effective utilization and operational performance should be enhanced. Effective utilization is a major consideration in the design of the NWT system. Numerous job-processing functions were included, resulting in a system that may be used easily and with confidence and delivering high overall performance. 主記憶分散型並列コンピュータである数値風洞(NWT)のジョブ処理に必要なユーザ・インタフェイスを開発した。NWTのオペレーティング・システム(OS)はUNIXであるが、航技研ユーザは長年運用されてきた汎用OSのMSPシステムの利用に長けていた。したがって、NWTにおいても、ユーザ利用性の継続とユーザ資産の継承を図る必要があった。この観点から、NWTのユーザ・インタフェイスはMSPビューとした。本稿では、MSPビュー・ユーザ・インタフェイスとして開発されたジョブ制御言語マクロ形式のNSカタプロと会話型マクロ・コマンド形式のNSコマンドを利用したジョブ処理について述べる。これらのユーザ・インタフェイスを利用したジョブ処理の中では、2つの異種OSの相違が自動吸収され、UNIXシステムのNWTを従来OSのMSPと等価な利用とすることが実現した。この結果、NWTの運用において、ユーザ利用性の継続とユーザ資産の継承という所期の目標を達成することができた。, In this paper the concepts and detailed functions of the MSP View User Interfaces are presented. It is a distributed memory parallel computer with UNIX operating system and is developed for the Numerical Wind Tunnel (NWT). Users at the NAL however were very skilled in the use of MSP operating systems for general purposes, and it was necessary therefore to ensure continued usability by users and of user assets. For this reason Interfaces in NWT were made in MSP View. Catalogued procedures (NS-CATAPRO) and command procedures (NS-COMMAND) were developed as MSP View User Interfaces. In job processing with these Interfaces a number of the differences between UNIX and MSP can be discounted, and NWT used in the same manner as MSP. As a result, users can use NWT easily and with confidence. Moreover, there is no need to change resources from MSP to UNIX. The simulations are started with initial flows given as the basic flow plus small disturbances with different energy levels for various Reynolds numbers. In the case of supercritical Reynolds numbers, the transition is triggered by two mechanisms: one is Tollmien-Schlichting waves growing in the flow when initial disturbances are very small, and the other is transient growth of stream-wise vortices when initial disturbances are rather large. On the other hand, for subcritical Reynolds numbers, transition is triggered by the transient growth only when initial disturbances are considerably large. In this paper, numerical method, grid system, initial/boundary conditions are carefully examined. It is in the output process of Fortran unformatted sequential writing. The scheme that improves the performance has been found, and the importance of I/O performance on NWT jobs is recognized. Also, the suitability (adaptability) between NWT and PARAGON in solving two dimensional Laplace equation by combining different numerical methods and parallelizations has been shown. The suitability is measured by the ratio to the amount of normalized transmitted data and the ratio to normalized transmission performance. Normalization here means that the total amount of calculation and the calculation performance are set equal to one, respectively. Note that this is different from the definition of parallelization efficiency, and high parallelization efficiency does not necessarily mean high suitability. Aerodynamic performance is evaluated by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Wing weight and fuel tank volume are estimated by empirical formulae. To simplify the problem, only the leading-edge sweep angle and two chord lengths at the midspan and wingtip are used as design variables. The leading edge of the wing is kept straight. Thus, a tapered wing with a trailing-edge kink will be designed. As an optimizer, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is employed here. Because GA can find a more global optimum, it is expected to perform better than the conventional gradient-based methods. Major drawback of GA is that it requires a large number of function evaluations. Thus, FLO-22 code based on the full potential equation is used because of its efficiency instead of Euler or Navier-Stokes solver. Evaluations of GA population are parallelized an Numerical Wind Tunnel (NWT) at National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL). Planform optimization problems are considered for typical subsonic and transonic aircraft. Unlike the single objective optimization, the solution to Multiobjective Optimization (MO) is not a single point, but a family of points known as the Pareto-optimal set. By maintaining a population of solutions Genetic Algorithm (GA) can search for many Pareto-optimal solutions in parallel. Airfoil performance is evaluated by a Navier-Stokes code. Evaluation of GA population is parallelized on Numerical Wind Tunnel (NWT), a parallel vector machine, located at National Aerospace Laboratory. The present MO seeks high pressure rise, high turning angle and low total pressure loss at a low Mach number. Consequently, all of GA population became Pareto-solutions, and some of these solutions showed high pressure rise, high turning angle and low total pressure loss. 航空宇宙技術研究所 12-13 Jun. 1997 東京 日本, National Aerospace Laboratory 12-13 Jun. 1997 Tokyo Japan, 日本の再突入宇宙機、OREX(軌道再突入実験)機、HYFLEX(極超音速飛行実験)機およびHOPE-X(宇宙往還機技術試験機)の開発に関連して、極超音速流シミュレーションのためのCFD(数値流体力学)解析の研究が大変盛んになってきた。HOPE-Xは2001年に打上げ予定であるが、HOPE-Xの空力設計のため、NAL(航空宇宙技術研究所)のNWT(数値風洞)を用いて、数100回の数値計算が行われている。これらの設計解析に伴い、数値結果と幾つかの極超音速風洞実験との比較により、CFDコードの検証がなされた。さらに、これらの解析を通して、空力および空熱力特性の評価において、実在気体効果が重要な設計ファクタであることが分かった。エレボンおよび機体フラップのような制御面のトリム能力および効率は、これら実在気体効果によって著しい影響を受ける。本論文では、HOPE-Xの極超音速空気動力学の研究に関する最近のCFD結果および検証プロセスを紹介した。, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) activity for hypersonic flow simulation has increased enormously due to the developments of Japanese re-entry spacecraft, OREX (Orbital Re-entry Experiment), HYFLEX (Hypersonic Fluid Experiment), and HOPE-X (H-2 Orbiting Plane-Experimental). HOPE-X will be launched in 2001 and several hundreds of numerical computations are being performed for the aerodynamic design of HOPE-X, by using NWT (Numerical Wind Tunnel) at NAL. With these design analyses, validation of CFD codes are made by comparing numerical results with several hypersonic wind tunnel experiments. Moreover, through these analyses, it is known that real gas effects are important design factors in the evaluation of aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic characteristics. Trim capability and efficiency of control surfaces, such as elevons and body flaps, are significantly influenced by these real gas effects. 航空宇宙技術研究所 12-13 Jun. 1997 東京 日本, National Aerospace Laboratory 12-13 Jun. 1997 Tokyo Japan, 近年のスーパーコンピュータの発達は乱流のDNS(直接数値シミュレーション)を可能にし、乱流現象の研究に著しく貢献した。0.025から5までの種々のプラントル数における乱流熱伝達のDNSを実行して、乱流熱流束、温度変動およびそれらの収支のような統計量を得た。Pr=0.2、0.4のような中位のプラントル数に対するデータを実験的に求めることは、非常に困難である。水に対応するプラントル数5は、現在までに計算されたチャネル流における乱流熱伝達での最高値である。計算対象は両壁からの一様加熱により十分に発達したチャネル流とした。複雑形状への適応可能であるという利点があるので、FDM(有限差分法)を数値解析に採用した。2次精度のコンシステントスキーム(無撞着法)を用いて、ナビエ・ストークスおよびエネルギー方程式の対流項を式化した。スペクトル法と比較して本手法を十分に調べた。両方程式の分子拡散項を2次の中心法で打ち切りとした。約800万のメッシュポイントおよび1GB(ギガバイト)の主メモリを用いて、スーパーコンピュータ「NWT(数値風洞)」により計算可能となった。平均温度プロフィルはKaderの相関と良く一致した。温度変動生成項ピークは、プラントル数の増加に伴い高くなり、壁に接近移動した。これはプラントル数増加に伴う平均温度勾配および乱流熱流束の増加が原因である。壁に垂直な乱流熱流束の収支は、TPG(温度圧力勾配相関)項がPr=5、0.4で支配的であること、一方、散逸項がPr=0.05で支配的であることを示した。計算した最高プラントル数(Pr=5)において、分子および乱流拡散項は、壁近傍で重要な役割を演じた。, Recent advance in supercomputers enables to perform the DNS (Direct Numerical Simulation) of turbulence, which contributes remarkably to the investigation of the turbulence phenomena. DNS of the turbulent heat transfer for various Prandtl numbers ranging from 0.025 to 5 are performed to obtain statistical quantities such as turbulent heat flux, temperature variance and their budget terms. The data for the middle Prandtl number such as Pr = 0.2, 0.4 are very difficult to be obtained experimentally. The Prandtl number of 5, which is equivalent to the water, is the highest value ever calculated for the turbulent heat transfer in the channel flow. The configuration is the fully developed channel flow with uniform heating from both walls. The Finite-Difference Method (FDM) is employed in the numerical analysis, because FDM has an advantage to be applicable for complex geometry. The convection terms in the Navier-Stokes and energy equations are expressed by using the consistent scheme with the 2nd-order accuracy. The method was well examined in comparison with the spectral method. The molecular diffusive terms in both equations are discretized with the 2nd-order central scheme. The calculation has been enabled by means of a super computer 'Numerical Wind Tunnel (NWT)' using about eight million mesh points and 1 GB main memory. The mean temperature profile agrees well with the Kader's correlation. The peak of the production term of the temperature variance becomes higher and moves closer to a wall as the Prandtl number increases. This is because the mean temperature gradient and turbulent heat flux increases with increasing Prandtl number. Budget of the wall-normal turbulent heat flux shows that the TPG (Temperature-Pressure Gradient correlation) term is dominant for Pr = 5 and 0.4, while the dissipation term is dominant for Pr = 0.05. By employing both one- and two-dimensional partitioning methods, the performance of the program on NAL vector parallel computer 'NWT' was analyzed, and vector tuning and parallel tuning was applied to it to be suitable for NWT. Then a performance model of the program to estimate the consuming time of the program was made. By comparing the estimation time derived from the model and the actual time consumed, applicability of the performance model was evaluated and a good agreement was obtained. This work was done in the collaboration between ONERA (Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales) and NAL. The extended Joukowski transformation as well as NACA five-digit series is used as airfoil definition of a wing to design a transonic wing geometry which maintains enough wing thickness to stand the bending moment due to the lift distribution. A three-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes (N-S) solver is used to evaluate aerodynamic performance. The N-S evaluation is parallelized on Numerical Wind Tunnel (NWT) at National Aerospace Laboratory in Japan, a parallel vector machine with 166 processing elements. Designed wings show a trade-off between an increase of the airfoil thickness driven by a structural constraint and a reduction of the wave drag produced by a shock wave.
