Mohism, a prestigious school of thought during the pre-Qin period, forms a crucial component of Chinese traditional culture. Following the Qin and Han dynasties, Mohism transitioned from prominence to obscurity, flowing beneath the surface of society. After the New Culture Movement, Marxism began to spread in China. Mohism exhibits a degree of convergence with Marxism in areas such as social ideals, humanistic values, and scientific practice. The convergence of Mohism and Marxism in modern China has facilitated the integration and reconstruction of Chinese traditional culture. The revival of Mohism in modern times served as a vital source of enlightenment for the intellectual and cultural circles of the time, laying a solid cultural foundation for the dissemination of Marxism. In the article, examining the relationship between Marxism and Mohism offers valuable insights, which helps us re-evaluate the cultural significance of Mohism, contributes to the Sinicization and contemporary relevance of Marxism, and strengthens our commitment to the belief of Marxism. Urban scholars have long engaged with the role of culture in cities. Tracing this debate, this article outlines the evolutions of culture as an object of study in inquiries on the urban and wishes to trouble two persisting trends in this literature. The first is a geographical and theoretical Eurocentric vision of culture, often framing cities beyond the West as exceptions or needing validation through a comparison with a Western case or theoretical model; the second is an economistic vision of culture under neoliberalism, neglecting the political and ideological dimensions of culture. As a step in overcoming these limitations, this article builds around the notion of 're-learning', to re-insert memory, informality and conflicting heritage into the debate on culture in cities. Drawing on an ethnography of the street 'Avenida 26' in Bogotá, Colombia, the article shows that informal cultural practices in the middle of segregation and urban violence can hardly be grasped through the current framing of culture in cities. Yet, they invite an opening up of such a framing to include different ways to cohabit and navigate space through everyday minor engagements. These multifaceted cultural realities urge us to 're-learn' culture in cities anywhere and advance theorisation on culture that takes non-Western urban spaces seriously. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TikTok has attracted a lot of attention from young people in the Arab world, especially students. TikTok is a new type of media resource with a strong connection to culture, The use of Tik Tok in the culture of the Arab world has its own uniqueness.It can be seen that there are many young users in the Arab world who are gradually becoming an important major force for the TikTok platform. At the same time, it helps them better understand and know foreign culture. It can be seen that TikTok not only meets the needs of students in the Arab world for social learning, online socialization, entertainment and entertainment, etc, but it also makes the values of students in the Arab world strongly influenced by bad and misleading information and ideas, As a mediator and transmitter of information and culture. The Yi horn pattern an indispensable part of the Yi pattern has a strong attribute of "pattern symbol" and is widely used in the form of embroidery patterns in the Yi costumes. It is a heavy historical precipitation of the Yi sheep culture. Nowadays there are few studies on Yi horn patterns in the academic circles and they are incorporated in the comprehensive field of Yi culture research and Yi dress research. There is a lack of systematic combing and summarization and a dearth of in-depth excavation of the level of cultural connotation. From the perspective of Saussure's semiotics this paper adopted the method of corroboration between relevant literature and physical objects and then explored the causes and cultural context of the development of Yi sheep's horn patterns by examining the historical evolution of the shape of the Yi sheep's horn pattern summarizing its organizational structure features and the rules of color application. Two major conclusions are drawn. Firstly at the signifier level the Yi sheep' s horn pattern presents abstract and geometric symbolic features and balanced and unified formal characteristics and the basic shape composition is the interdependent and opposite whirlwind image composed of two whirlwind images. After the evolution on the basis of maintaining the basic features many combinations of deformations appeared which were mostly used in combination with ferns and other botanical motifs reflecting the Yi people' s inheritance and innovation of this cultural symbol. In the layout and placement of its independent pattern the pattern form and the Yi costume structure fit each other its continuous patterns are mostly organized in a two-way organization to highlight the sense of order and solemnity the use of color and the whole show the characteristics of unity of opposition. Secondly at the level of the signified of the Yi horn pattern the Yi people live in the context of the sheep-based animal husbandry mode of production and the Yi horn pattern is regarded as a symbol of a carefree peaceful and well-being life and carries the Yi people' s pursuit of wealth and good fortune. At the same time the Yi horn pattern plays an important role in the Yi rituals and rules and system culture confirming the original totem worship of the Yi people and that the sheep also plays a fair and just symbol in the legal system of the Yi ethnic group. Finally the shape and structure of the Yi horn pattern contain the traditional concept of creation of the Yi ethnic group and its symmetrical structure and double helix shape are symbolic expression of the male and female concept of the Yi ethnic group. This paper analyzes the Yi ethnic group 's horn patterns through Saussure 's semiotics and summarizes the development evolution and characteristics of its shape structure so as to study the deep cultural connotation provide practical examples for the study of Yi ethnic group' s horn patterns and contribute to promoting Yi culture. Well-being 2030 has become the latest rationale for the OECD's education work. This vision has given rise to new assessments of student well-being beginning with PISA 2015. The OECD, recognising the problems of PISA 2015, conceptualised a wider student well-being construct in PISA 2018, and attempted to measure 'students' feelings'. However, analyses of the OECD's affective turn reveal major problems remain. Our critique is empirically underpinned by an innovative analytical strategy: comparing PISA 2018 student questionnaire translations across different 'economies' that use the same written language (China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). Our analyses confirm that the OECD imagines a cultural and context-free world, one in which translation and measurements are simply technical problems to be engineered, rather than deeper 'problems' of worldviews that require attunement. Based on the three major directions of rural cultural revitalization proposed in the National Rural Revitalization Strategic Plan (2018-2022), we analyze the connotation and meaning of rural cultural revitalization from the level of ideology and morality, traditional culture and public life respectively, and point out that there are three contradictions in rural cultural revitalization at present: People leaving the farm and the lack of inheritance main body, cultural supply and cultural demand misalignment, urban-rural integration pattern and urban-rural cultural conflict, and the cultural tourism integration and rural cultural revitalization are highly coupled in terms of logical starting point, realization path and target direction, therefore, we can overcome the departure of rural people from agriculture through “cultural tourism + industry”, solve the misalignment of cultural supply and demand through “cultural tourism + rural construction” through “cultural tourism + value”, promote the integration of urban and rural culture and help revitalize rural culture. While historically and ideologically peripheralised in modern Chinese politics, traditional culture has been discursively rehabilitated by the Chinese communist regime in recent years. Existing literature on this phenomenon tends to focus on the politicisation of culture, that is, how Chinese culture, particularly the Confucian tradition, is appropriated by the regime to legitimatise and stabilise its ideopolitical control in schools and society. This article draws attention to the interweaving but distinct and underexplored tendency of the culturalisation of politics, that is, the party-state's discursive construction of politics in culturalist terms. It examines how politics is culturally constructed, or culturalised, in the official textbooks for the guiding political doctrine Xi Jinping Thought, the teaching of which has been mandatory in schools and universities since 2021. Situating the Chinese case in the broader context of the 'cultural turn' in postmodern politics, this article discusses the implications for citizenship education under China's authoritarian regime. In an unprecedented global crisis, like the COVID‐19 pandemic, when vertical global governance plays a relatively minor role, government leaders must obtain policy information cues from other governments' behaviors horizontally. This study builds on the policy diffusion literature to examine the distinct role of geographic, cultural, and institutional peers in influencing a country's policy adoptions throughout a diffusion episode. We theorize that in the case of COVID‐19, policy‐culture fit enhances policy learning, leading cultural cues to exert a more pronounced diffusion influence than geographic and institutional cues over time. Our empirical analysis leverages worldwide data tracking the daily adoption of nine universal COVID‐19 non‐pharmaceutical policies from January 1, 2020 to June 1, 2021 in nearly 100 countries. We show that geographic and institutional proximity are initial sources of policy cues affecting adoption. But their effects fade over time while that of cultural cues grows in the later stage of a diffusion episode, illustrating the role of policy learning fueled by cultural fit. Contrary to traditional cultural psychological theories, cross-cultural studies have found that East Asians are not more interdependent than North Americans. Addressing this anomaly, Hashimoto and Yamagishi (2013) proposed that, from an institutional approach, cross-cultural differences should exist in rejection avoidance rather than harmony-seeking tendencies. They argue that this is because, in low relational mobility societies like Japan, where the cost of social exclusion is high, it is adaptive to be attentive to possible negative reputation and behave in a manner that accommodates other people􀊟s expectations through the use of rejection avoidance tendencies. However, it has not been confirmed empirically whether or not cultural diffferences in relational mobility and the expectation of negative reputation underlie these differences in rejection avoidance. We conducted three online surveys in the US and Japan to test this hypothesis. Results showed that, consistent with our predictions, lower relational mobility among Japanese, compared to Americans, was associated with higher negative reputational expectation, and higher negative reputational expectation was associated with higher rejection avoidance tendencies. Pale is the Old English word for fence, and the phrase 'to go beyond the pale' means to stray beyond the limits of acceptable action. In this critical commentary I discuss whether the installation of temporary fencing in public parks to secure ticketed festivals is now beyond the pale. Fences restrict access but they also affect how park spaces are perceived, used and managed. I use photographs taken in three different London parks to illustrate the materiality of these temporary structures, but also their aesthetic impact, symbolic significance and lasting legacies. I argue that temporary fences have enduring effects on parks and public spaces by discouraging everyday use, by preparing the ground for future incursions, and by normalising and festivalising barriers that restrict access. My commentary highlights the often overlooked importance of fences and illustrates the splintered and sequestered nature of contemporary cities – where citizens are increasingly fenced off. Background: Post-traumatic growth (PTG) and resilience, regarded as positive psychological change following a traumatic experience, are under-researched across cultures in people exposed to child maltreatment (CM). Objective: We investigated how experiences and the perceived acceptability of CM are related to resilience and PTG in countries with different cultures, living standards, and gross national income. Method: A total of 478 adults from Cameroon (n = 111), Canada (n = 137), Japan (n = 108), and Germany (n = 122) completed an online survey with self-reported questionnaires, including the Brief Resilience Scale and the Post Traumatic Growth Inventory-Short Form. Results: Across countries, self-reported male gender and age were positively associated with resilience, while experiences of physical abuse and emotional maltreatment were negatively associated with resilience. Experiences of emotional maltreatment were positively associated with PTG. Higher levels of PTG and resilience were found amongst Cameroonian participants as compared to other countries. Conclusion: Our results suggest that positive changes following CM can vary significantly across cultures and that experiences of specific CM subtypes, but not the perceived acceptability of CM, may be important for a deeper understanding of how individuals overcome trauma and develop salutogenic outcomes. Our findings may inform CM intervention programmes for an enhanced cultural sensitivity. Across the four countries (Canada, Cameroon, Germany, Japan), more experiences of physical abuse and emotional maltreatment were associated with lower resilience; more experiences of emotional maltreatment were associated with greater post-traumatic growth. Higher levels of post-traumatic growth and resilience were found in Cameroon as compared to other countries. Positive changes following child maltreatment vary across cultures and experiences of specific child maltreatment subtypes, but the perceived acceptability of child maltreatment did not exert an influence on salutogenic post-traumatic outcomes. Disrupted maternal communication during mother‐infant interaction has been found to be associated with infants' disorganized attachment, but has been studied primarily in North American and European samples and not in Arab samples. To address this gap the study examined the association between disrupted maternal communication and infant attachment in a sample of 50 Arab mothers and their one‐year‐old infants in Israel. Attachment was assessed with the Strange Situation Procedure (SSP), and disrupted communication with the AMBIANCE. Disrupted communication was higher in mothers of infants with disorganized and ambivalent attachment than in mothers of securely attached infants. The findings support the link between disrupted communication and disorganized attachment in the Arab society in Israel and add to our understanding of maternal behavior associated with ambivalent attachment. The objective of the current research was to investigate the relationship between parenting style, culture, and infant development in a sample of Latin American mother‐infant dyads in Toronto, Canada. We examined associations between mothers' self‐reported parenting style and infant cognitive and socioemotional development, which we compared to results from mothers belonging to two other Canadian immigrant populations. We further examined whether specific cultural correlates, including affiliation with traditional Latinx cultural beliefs familism and fatalism and acculturation, were associated with positive parenting behaviors in the Latin American sample. Across all three cultural groups, authoritative parenting predicted adaptive socio‐emotional development, an effect which differed in magnitude across groups, providing support for the hypothesis that the effect of parenting behaviors on infant development are moderated by culture. Within the Latin American sample, affiliation with the value of familism was associated with higher scores of authoritative parenting, but familism decreased as acculturation to the host culture increased. This research adds to our understanding of factors that contribute to the well‐being of Latin American families in Canada. Findings carry implications for provision of infant mental health services to Latin American immigrant families by identifying cultural variables which should be considered when providing parenting interventions to make such interventions more culturally relevant. Parental mental health socialization is a process by which parents shape how youth develop and maintain beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors regarding mental health and help‐seeking behaviors. Although culture shapes parental mental health socialization, few studies have examined specific parental socialization practices regarding mental health and help‐seeking, especially as a culturally anchored process. Using a qualitative approach, this study explores youth‐reported parental socialization of mental health within Chinese American families by examining focus group data from 69 Chinese American high school and college students. Findings revealed that youth received parental messages that conveyed culturally anchored conceptualizations of mental health that included stigmatized views of mental illness and perceptions of mental distress as not a legitimate problem. Parents responded to youth distress in culturally consonant ways: by encouraging culturally specific coping methods, dismissing or minimizing distress, or responding with silence. Youth engaged in the active interpretation of parental messages through cultural brokering, bridging the gap between their parents' messages and mainstream notions of mental health and help‐seeking. Overall, our findings point to the significant role of culture in parental mental health socialization in Chinese American families and the need to integrate culturally specific understandings of mental health into future interventions for Asian American youth. Background: Social support is an important feature in understanding posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its treatment. Non-clinical research has identified distinct profiles of culturally appropriate social support. Despite this, little research has examined cultural influences on social support in the context of PTSD. Objective: This study examined cultural differences in the associations between social support and symptoms of PTSD. Method: The study employed a cross-sectional design. Australian (n = 91) and Malaysian (n = 91) trauma survivors completed an online survey assessing PTSD symptomatology and social support (explicit and implicit social support, perceived helpfulness of support provider, attitudes towards professional help-seeking). A quasi-experimental paradigm assessed the influence of mutual (i.e. the sharing of support between relationship partners) and non-mutual support (i.e. where one person constantly receives support, while the other person constantly provides support) on negative emotion and subjective distress. Results: First, explicit social support was negatively associated with PTSD symptoms for the Australian group but not the Malaysian group. Second, perceived helpfulness of support from family was negatively associated with PTSD symptoms for the Malaysian group but not the Australian group. Third, the Malaysian group reported significantly greater distress for non-mutual support and significantly fewer negative emotions and distress for mutual support than the Australian group. Fourth, the Malaysian group reported that they were significantly more open to acknowledging psychological problems and the possibility of seeking professional help for these problems than the Australian group. Conclusions: As the PTSD social support literature continues to evolve, it is essential that cultural influences are considered given the important theoretical and clinical implications. Based on research into Antonio Gramsci's writings, the following text has aimed to analyze the relationship between political militancy and culture. To do so, it identifies how the categories of culture and political militancy reveal themselves in texts published in the Avanti and Il grido del popolo journals, as well as in the socialist journal L'Ordine Nuovo, and how these responded to the political landscape of the time. Such an examination contextualizes the life and thoughts of Antonio Gramsci prior to his imprisonment in 1926 and reveals the presence of the culture category in conjunction with political militancy. This scoping review summarizes and consolidates the parenting goals for young children captured in existing parent‐report measures, and the characteristics of studies that employed them. Five electronic databases were systematically searched to identify original studies that used a self‐report measure for parenting goals during the child's first 5 years. Characteristics of the parenting goals measures and the studies that employed them were extracted and synthesized. A deductive approach was used to reduce the parenting goals items across instruments into representative domains. Fourteen original parenting goals measures and their modifications (i.e., 24 unique measures in total) were identified in 44 research articles from 41 original studies. Items from these measures were synthesized into 33 representative domains. Findings will inform the direction of future research and the development of a comprehensive measure of parenting goals for parents with young children that can be applied across cultures, economic backgrounds, informants, and parenting contexts.
