Objective: To investigate the utilization of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in the patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTE-ACS) in the former General Hospital of Chengdu Military Command, and also to evaluate its rational utilization. Methods: A retrospective analysis was made on such indicators as application rate, duration of medication on the average per person, drug categories, frequency of medication (DDDs), use density (UD) and drug utilization index (DUI) of PPIs in NSTE-ACS patients of the hospital from January 2013 to June 2015. Rationality of PPIs application was also evaluated in accordance with the European and US guidelines. Results: Anti-platelet therapy was given to all the 129 patients, of whom 122 received dual anti-platelet therapy (DAPT ). There were 49 patients with moderate or high risks of CRUSADE bleeding scores, accounting for 37.98%, and bleeding risk was (11.00 ± 3.88)%. The application rate, the drug category, the duration of medication on the average per person, UD and DUI of PPIs were 90.70%, (1.32 ± 0.57), (7.05 ± 4.63) days, 129.15 DDDs and 1.71, respectively. For the application rate and DDDs, the top 3 were pantoprazole, esomeprazole and lansoprazole, and for DUI the top 3 were omeprazole, esomeprazole and pantoprazole. There was excessive use of PPIs in most patients. Conclusion: For the application of PPIs in the NSTE-ACS patients of the hospital, many problems existed, such as high rate of application, improper selection of drug categories and excessive utilization of drugs, which should be brought under control.
