我々は天文学のなかで最も未開拓なSub-MeV、MeVガンマ線の全天探査を行うために、電子飛跡検出型コンプトンガンマ線カメラ(ETCC: Electron Tracking Compton Camera)を開発した。この装置は従来のコンプトンカメラでは困難であった散乱電子の方向を測定し、入射ガンマ線の方向を決定できるばかりでなく、散乱電子と反跳ガンマ線の散乱角を用いた運動学的検証により高い雑音除去能力を持ち、高感度が期待できる。今回は宇宙観測の実証のために、宇宙環境下での動作試験、および宇宙拡散ガンマ線、大気2次ガンマ線の検出を目的として、10cm角ETCCを製作、それを気球実験装置として組み上げ、気球用Sub-MeVガンマ線観測装置SMILE(Superconducting SubMIllimeter wave Limb Emission Sounder)を完成させた。2006年9月1日、三陸大気球観測所より放球され、7時間の飛行の後、無事に回収された。観測高度32〜35kmで約4時間の観測に成功した。, We developed the Electron Tracking Compton Camera (ETCC) with reconstructing the 3-D tracks of the recoil electron in Compton process for both sub-MeV and MeV gamma rays. By measuring both the directions and energies of a scattered gamma ray and a recoil electron, the direction of the incident gamma ray is determined for each individual photon. Also, a residual measured angle between the recoil electron and scattered gamma ray is powerful for the kinematical background-rejection. In order to test the performance of the ETCC for the observation of celestial sub-MeV gamma rays by the balloon-borne experiment, we have constructed the ETCC consisting of the 10 cm cubic Time Projection Chamber (micro-TPC) for 3-D electron tracking and the 6 x 6 x 13 cu mm GSO crystal pixel arrays surrounding the micro-TPC for detecting scattered gamma rays, and also made the balloon-borne instrument to operate the ETCC. This instrument was launched on September 1, 2006 from Sanriku Balloon Center, and flown during seven hours. これまで東京薬科大学において、航空機を用いた成層圏、対流圏での微生物採集実験が行われ、紫外線耐性をしめす細菌株が単離された。しかし、その採集は航空機を用いているために12km以下に限られていた。そこで、東京薬科大学と宇宙科学研究本部の共同で大気球を用いた微生物採集実験を行った。成層圏でろ過したフィルターから微生物株を単離することができた。, The microorganism sampling experiment of the stratosphere and the troposphere was conducted by using the airplane by Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Science. The bacteria with high ultraviolet resistance have been isolated from stratosphere and the troposphere. However, the highest altitude of the sampling was limited to about 12 km. In this work, collaborative sampling experiment of ISAS and Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Science was conducted to collect microbes at the atmosphere in a higher stratosphere. The microbes were filtrated with ultra-membrane filter at high altitude using balloon and the filters were placed on the medium. 本研究は、南極周回超伝導スペクトロメータによる宇宙線観測(BESS(Balloon-borne Experiment with a Superconducting Spectrometer)-Polar実験)を通して、「宇宙起源反粒子、反物質の精密探査」を目的としている。地球磁極領域に降り注ぐ低エネルギー宇宙線に注目し、反陽子スペクトルを精密に測定して、衝突(2次)起源反陽子流束の理解を深めるとともに、「原始ブラックホール(PBH: Primordial Black Hole)の蒸発」、「超対称性粒子・ニュートラリーノの対消滅」など、初期宇宙における素粒子現象の痕跡となる「宇宙(1次)起源反粒子」を精密探査する。反ヘリウムの直接探査を通して、宇宙における物質・反物質の存在の非対称性を検証する。同時に陽子、ヘリウム流束を精密に観測し、これまでのカナダでの観測(BESS実験、1993-2002)の結果と合わせて、太陽活動変調とその電荷依存性について系統的に観測し、宇宙線の伝播、相互作用に関する基礎データを提供する。本研究では、これまでのBESS実験で培われた超伝導スペクトロメータによる宇宙線観測の経験をもとに、低エネルギー領域での観測感度を高め、南極周回長時間飛翔を可能とする超伝導スペクトロメータを新たに開発した。2004年12月13日、南極(米国、マクマード基地)での観測気球打ち上げ、高度37kmでの9日間に及ぶ南極周回飛翔に成功し、9億イベントの宇宙線観測データを収集した。運動エネルギー0.1〜1.3GeVの範囲に於いて、これまでの約4倍の統計量でエネルギースペクトルを決定した。結果は、衝突(2次)起源モデルとよく整合し、1次起源反陽子の兆候は観測されていない。太陽活動が極小期にむけた過渡期にあたる2004年の観測として予想に沿った結果を得た。反ヘリウム探索は、これまでのヘリウム観測の総統計量を2倍以上に高め、反ヘリウム／ヘリウム比の上限値を2.7×10(exp -7)にまで押し下げた。本報告では、BESS-Polar(2004年)の成果を纏め、次期太陽活動極小期(2007年)における第2回南極周回気球実験計画を述べる。, The Balloon-borne Experiment with a Superconducting Spectrometer with long duration flights in Antarctica (BESS-Polar) has been progressed. 気球搭載型超伝導サブミリ波リム放射サウンダ(BSMILES: Balloon-borne Superconducting SubMIllimeter-wave Limb-Emission Sounder)は、成層圏中の微量分子を観測する有用な装置である。2006年9月4日、成層圏中のHO2の日変化の観測することを目的に、BSMILESによる第3回目の放球実験が行われた。BSMILESには直径300mmのオフセットパラボラアンテナ、液体ヘリウム冷却の630GHz帯超伝導受信機、音響光学型分光計、3軸光ファイバジャイロなどが搭載されている。BSMILESはB200型気球により放球され、高度約37.9kmにおいてオゾンや微量分子の観測を行い、観測終了後海上回収された。, A Balloon-borne Superconducting SubMIllimeter-wave Limb-Emission Sounder (BSMILES) is powerful tool for observations of stratospheric minor constituents. The third flight experiment of BSMILES was conducted on September 4, 2006 to observe diurnal variation of HO2. BSMILES carries an offset parabolic maim reflector with a diameter of 300 mm, a 630 GHz-band SIS (Semiconductor Insulator Semiconductor) mixer cooled by liquid helium, an acousto-optical spectrometer, and three-axes fiber-optic gyroscope. The gondola was lifted to an altitude of about 37.9 km by a balloon of 200,000 cu m in volume. The system operated properly and emission line spectra of O3 and minor constituents were measured. 高感度な観測を行うには望遠鏡が必須であるが、これまで10keVを超える硬X線領域ではX線望遠鏡はほとんど感度を持たなかった。SUMIT(SUperMirror Imaging Telescope)は、20-60keVの硬X線領域において撮像可能な多層膜スーパーミラーを用いた硬X線望遠鏡による撮像観測実験である。我々は、SUMITの焦点面検出器の開発を行った。SUMITに搭載された望遠鏡は、焦点距離8m、空間分解能2分角、視野12分角の性能を持っており、その焦点面検出器の性能の目標値として20-60keVで90％以上の検出効率、位置分解能2mm(1分角)以下、有効検出面40mm(17分角)を設定した。我々はこれを達成するために、NaI(Tl)固体シンチレータと位置検出型光電子増倍管を組み合わせた位置検出型シンチレーションカウンターを開発した。これにより、20-80keVで90％以上の検出効率、有効検出面直径60mmを達成した。本検出器は2006年5月に放射光施設SPring-8にて性能評価と較正を目的とした測定を行った。その結果、エネルギー分解能18％(アットマーク)60keV(FWHM: Full Width at Half Maximum)、位置分解能2mm(アットマーク)60keV(FWHM)を得た(ただし、(アットマーク)部分を記号のアットマークに変更してください)。また位置決定関数の測定を行った。これらの結果により、本検出器は上記の目標を達成していることを確認できた。2006年11月にブラジルで行った第1回飛翔実験では、高度38kmにおいて約8時間の観測を行なった。, 資料番号: AA0063354039

Launching a large balloon at a limited launching field is a long standing subject in Japan. The volume of the largest balloon ever launched successfully was 200,000 cubic meters. This type of balloon was firstly launched in 1973. A larger balloon with a volume of 500,000 cubic meters was tried to launch in 1980; however it did not succeed because of burst during the ascending phase. For launching a large balloon with a total lift more than 1 ton, the static launching method, we have used for more than 20 years, has several weak points that may result in failure. We developed a semi-dynamic launching method using a new launcher, which is fixed on the ground and has a freedom of rotation around the vertical axis and an elevation system up to 5 m, as well as a leap-up spooler system for holding a balloon bubble, in 1999. We have launched several balloons using the method. In 2003, a balloon with a volume of 500,000 cubic meters, which was made of polyethylene films of 20 micrometers in thickness, was successfully launched with the semi-dynamic launching method. 我々名古屋大学と大阪大学のX線天文学グループでは、多層膜スーパーミラーを用いた硬X線望遠鏡による、硬X線領域での撮像観測を行うことを目的とした気球実験計画を推進している。望遠鏡はアルミの薄板を用いた多重薄板型の斜入射光学系で、直径は40cm、焦点距離は8mで、30keVで約100平方センチメートルの有効面積をもつ。2台の望遠鏡の搭載が予定されており、それぞれ特徴の異なった2台の検出器が搭載される。1台はNaI(TI)固体シンチレーターに位置検出型の光電子増倍管を組み合わせた検出器で、高い検出効率と時間応答性を持ち、位置分解能に優れるもう一方の検出器であるSD-CCD(Scintillator Deposited-Charge Coupled Device)と相補的な役割を持つ。我々はこの検出器を大型放射光施設SPring-8に持ち込んで、その性能評価を行った。その結果、60keVで16％のエネルギー分解能と、2.6mmの位置分解能を持つことがわかった。我々は、ブラジルで行う予定の本フライトに向け、三陸の大気球観測所において、検出器と姿勢検出用のセンサーをのせたゴンドラを用いた試験飛行を行った。この実験における主な目的は、実際の観測高度における検出器のバックグラウンドの観測と、観測高度での熱環境試験および各センサーの観測高度での動作試験である。2005年5月25日に気球は無事に打ち上げられ、水平飛行で約2時間の飛翔データが得られ、気球高度での正常動作の確認とバックグラウンドデータが得られた。, 資料番号: AA0063353038

近年の気球実験では、観測器の大型化・大重量化、気球の大型化が進んでいる。気球フィルムに発生する応力が大きくなる場合には、気球皮膜の多層化などの最適化が必要となる。ここでは、気球の設計を行う際に用いる簡便な最大応力評価の手法を検討し、ここ数年における実際の飛翔時のパラメータの評価を行った。さらに、新規に大型気球の設計を行い、実験により新しい設計基準の妥当性を確認した。また、長時間観測のために開発を進めているスーパープレッシャー気球の現状と問題点を検討した。, 資料番号: AA0063353051

成層圏プラットフォーム飛行船の鍵となる技術を実証すると共に、各種ミッション試験を実施すべく、定点滞空試験機の飛行試験を実施した。定点滞空試験機は、全長68mの無人飛行船であり、遠隔操縦または自律で飛行する。試験機は合計8フライト飛行、最後の3フライトでは、自律による定点滞空飛行を実施、約900mと2kmの高度に於いて地球観測ミッションに成功、4kmおよび4km近傍の高度に於いて通信放送ミッションに成功した。本稿では、定点滞空試験機の開発および定点滞空飛行試験について:(1)プロジェクトの概要;(2)系統ごとの試験システムの構成および関連する開発試験、追跡管制系との噛み合わせ試験;(3)飛行試験計画から実施に至る、飛行試験実施作業;(4)第1段階から第3段階の各飛行の概要および系統毎の結果を含む飛行試験結果、について報告する。ハイテク膜材製の試験機船体構造は、試験期間中健全であり、安全な運用に供し得ることが確認された。熱浮力制御は、実飛行状態で海面から4kmの高度まで有効であった。定点滞空精度は設計要求内であり、飛行誘導制御則が妥当であることが確認された。以上、目的は総て達成され、定点滞空飛行試験は成功裡に終了した。, A series of flight tests was conducted with the SPF-2 low-altitude stationary flight test vehicle to demonstrate and prove key technologies for Stratospheric PlatForm (SPF) airships while conducting experiments for various missions. The SPF-2 is a 68.4 m long unmanned non-rigid airship that can fly autonomously or be controlled from its ground station through a communication link. Starting with vertical takeoff/landing flights (tethered and non-tethered) over the ground handling area, the flight test vehicle made a total of eight flights. In the last three tests, autonomous geostationary flights were made, including the successful gathering of earth environment and traffic observations at altitudes of approximately 900 m and 2 km, and telecommunications and broadcasting missions at and near 4 km. This report on SPF-2 flight tests begins with an overview of the project, followed by descriptions of: (1) the systems that constitute the vehicle; (2) various tests conducted in the course of SPF-2 development including system integration with the tracking and command system; (3) tasks undertaken from planning to testing stages; (4) flight test results in each technical field. The structure of the hull envelope, made of high-technology thin membrane materials, remained sound throughout the testing program, confirming its operational reliability and safety. Buoyancy control and thermal management were effective in real flight from sea level to 4 km altitude, and it was confirmed that the control and guidance laws were adequate. Diffusion characteristics of auroral X-rays in the atmosphere have been investigated by means of a Monte Carlo simulation to estimate how much degree of out-of-focus is introduced into auroral X-ray images at balloon altitudes. The simulation calculations were carried out for the four different spectral functions of photon sources: a) mono-energy parallel beam, b) mono-energy, isotropic, c) exponential and d) power-law energy spectra, isotropic. The calculation results are summarized as follows. 1) In case of the omni-directinal detector, an isotropically incident beam enlarges into the width of 10-13 km at l0g/c㎡ depth, regardless of the spectral function. 2) The detectors with a half collimator angle of 30and l0reduce it into 8-9 km and 3-4 km, respectively. 3) It appears a kind of ghost image with increasing inclined angle of the collimated detector, amounting to the same order of brightness with the genuine image. The out-of-foci of some circular source images are illustrated as a function of atmospheric depth, spectral function and collimation and inclined angles of the detector.
