According to the literal meaning the first type named by modern archaeologists is generally composed of the name of the main object and that of the structure with explicit expressive content. The second type originated from the Song Dynasty and passed down to the present can be found in historical books and classics. This kind of name mainly describes silk patterns with similar shapes under the guise of real objects such as patterns of ailanthus and cattail leaf and persimmon calyx patterns. The third type also originated from the Song Dynasty showing the characteristics of scene story image etc. The literal meaning is often different from its actual meaning. If translators translate the names literally the readers will not understand the true meaning. Therefore only by resonating with Chinese traditional culture can translators accurately grasp the core meaning of silk patterns in the Song Dynasty. Aiming at the three types of names for ornaments translators need to flexibly adopt literal translation free translation or additional annotations to implement the foreign translation plan of interconnecting Chinese and foreign contexts and to actively promote the effective transmission of the silk culture in the Song Dynasty on the world stage so that people around the world can feel the extensive and profound Chinese traditional culture.
