The experimet was to study the antioxidant activity of non-volatile components in Artemisia argyi leaves with different polarity solvent extracts and their antioxidant capacity, to investigate the relationship between antioxidant activity of non-volatile extract of Artemisia argyi leaf and content of polyphenols, flavonoids and polysaccharides. The lipid soluble pigment and volatile substances in Artemisia argyi leaves were removed by petroleum ether at boiling range of 60~ 90 ℃, the residues were extracted by ethyl acetate, n-butanol, ethanol and water, respectively. The antioxidant activities of four extracts were determined by ferric ion reduction method (FRAP) and 1, 1-diphenyl-2-trinitrophenylhydrazine (DPPH) method. The antioxidant activities were converted into Trolox equivalent, determining the content of polyphenols, flavonoids and polysaccharides in extract. The results showed that in water phase, ethanol phase, n-butanol phase and ethyl acetate phase, polyphenols, flavonoids and polysaccharides were mainly enriched in water phase and ethanol phase. The content of flavonoids directly could affect the antioxidant activity of polyphenols. The study indicates that the antioxidant activity of non-volatile extracts of Artemisia argyi leaves mainly exists in aqueous and ethanol phases, and flavonoids are the main components of antioxidant activity, which can be further developed as natural antioxidant active components.
